I’m using the Pirate Cane bought from the vendor in LA at the end of the jumping puzzle. It suites well with my necro as i’m trying to make him look like a tribal witch doctor. For my staff i use the invader’s one as the animation of the ghastly scythe begins exactly in the circle it has at the top making it look like it starts in the void. I think there’s no legendary at moment that pleases my tastes for necro…

Supportive engineer for WvW

Hello engineer community: i’ve held my engineer back for a long time because i mainly play wvw: i don’t like elixir builds and, i have to admit it, i’m not skilled enough to make multikit builds shine.
I’ve lurked on this section a lot in the past few days and i’ve come to this idea: probably it’s already been expressed and trashed long ago, but i’d like to have a feedback from more experienced engineers on how it would work.

This is the build.

  • The base is elixir-infused bombs: this scales horribly with compassion: 0.1.
  • I’ve also tried to mix in the elixir gun for its super elixir, which scales a little better: 0.2 on impact and 0.1 for each pulse but, most importantly, it removes a condition on impact and its a light field that persists for 10 seconds on a 16 seconds cd.

Since healers are not present in this game, i could support my party in various ways:

  1. With one built-in blast finisher(#4), our elixir gun can be used to proc area retaliation when a guardian autoattacks with his staff from behind the gate (same applies to engineers with flamethrower or necros marks and so on…), i can use shield #4 and big ol’ bomb for the same purpose too.
    Altough not specified in the tooltip, toss elixir r is a light field, so all the above applies to it too.
  2. Autoattack stacks weakness (bleeding hits for so low to be unsignificant).
  3. Elixir f cripples foes and gives swiftness to allies.
  4. Fumigate could be used to cleanse conditions on allies as well as stacking vulnerability and poison on enemies based on situation.
  5. When in bomb kit i’d have access to smoke and fire fields that i could use with blasts to proc stealth or might for my allies.
  6. Detonating healing turret immediatly after it’s been placed procs an area healing (i don’t know if this has been fixed tho).
  7. Whenever i immobilize a foe i apply 5 stacks of vulnerability to him; i guess i’d have to carry a second pistol to emphazise this while not sieging to not rely only on bombkit#5 (maybe a giver’s one?).
  8. With toss elixir r i could revive important targets if they’re not under heavy focus or clear conditions while super elixir is on cooldown.

While i’m planning to run it in full cleric’s armor and soldier’s jewels to have more base power for retaliation and raw damage, i’m not sure about runes: would i give up too much to get citadel’s effect of bomb on hit? And, more important, would that bomb heal?

You can get rabid armor and weapons with WvW badges now; check the merchants. Also orr temples have 4 out of 6 pieces of rabid stat armor and exotic rabid back, ring and accessories for karma in dwayna’s.

Can you transmute new skins on them? I know with the old soldiers gear you got with badges it wouldn’t let you transmute anything on it.

Yes, you can. It works with weapon too.

Rabid jewelry of exotic quality can be bought at temple of dwayna’s merchant. And since the last patch, exotic quality armor and weapons can be bought with badges of honor + gold in wvwvw.

Sorry for late answers but i was having some issues and couldn’t login to forums… Apparently my password was wrong, but suddendly became right and let me in.

Anyway @Chesire: I thought chaos armors gained from leaping through combofields wouldn’tapply protection when gained, this is a great improvement in survivability; I’m revolving around others conditions too, not only confusion because if i wouldn’t cover it with something else it would be cleansed instantly. The loss in survivability would come from the loss of toughness on runes, and maybe on weapons too… Still need to test if i can keep myself alive.

@Crossplay: I take it as a compliment, am i right?

@Ross Biddle: Thanks for the input on duration cap, i’m not willing to sacrifice all of my cond. damage for the sake of duration, but every moment they waste to cleanse my conditions is a moment i get to reposition myself, get some skill off cooldown and probably some other clones up; plus, skilled players usually await the end of confusion stacks if they got no cond. removal that can cleanse all of their conditions at once, so if my confusion lasts longer i get an enormous advantage where my other conditions (mainly bleeds and burnings from clones + staff) keep on chewing the opponents life.

Class Envy. I hate it.

At 30 arcane attunements recharge in ~9 secs, but what you’re saying is right: either raise the base heal or the coefficient from healing power.

Crit chance is excellent for condition oriented mesmers because our illusions have a 100% chance to inflict bleeding per crit.

Yeah forgot that! Every little helps and with this cond. damage bleeds tick for 107/sec. Don’t sure if our illusions inherit our duration tho… Might have to test. As soon as i get home i’ll try this out… If this sucks, i’ll have a bunch of ectos from salvaging :\

Well, didn’t consider Runes of Nightmare: with those i lose 10% duration but confusion stays above 100% which is still good. Crits are not so important to me too, i have low power and poor crit. damage, but giver’s weapons only come with precision, so i have this crit. chance… Thanks for the input!

Hello mesmer community: I don’t usually post a lot on forums, but this is a thing I’d like to know better

First of all, I apologize for my basic english skills because it’s not my primary language so…

Since the fix to “Giver’s” weapons now it’s possible to stack condition duration effectively: given that we have the strongest condition (wvwvw wise at least) at our disposal, we benefit more from stacking that stat.

this build, food, runeset and weapons one can achieve 83% condition duration and 116% on confusion. With the recent changes to scepter#3 skill to pierce up to 5 targets this has the potential (along with cry of frustration and phantasmal mage if torch is equipped) to perma-confuse clustered people.

My question is: will it work in reality or it’s only good on paper? Will be worth for me to abandon undead runes and my rabid weapons in favor of +cond. duration and giver’s ones?

As long as I know, if you have at least 1 clone out it will always be replaced by another clone. If you have 3 phantasms out, the least recent will get overwritten by your clone.
This might be changed with the last patch, so I can’t guarantee 100%.

I didn’t get a precursor from the karka chest. I also did not see any precursor being linked in map chat, nor i did know precursors could be dropped from that chest.

Funny thing is that I don’t care. I work for 10 hours a day, I log in just to relax myself , spending some times with random people (I’m in a phantom guild, no one logs on anymore but I enjoy the name of it {We love Sasha [Grey] who couldn’t love that name!}) and if one of those people gets lucky and loots 1kk gold from the boss we were killing, that won’t spoil the game for me. Maybe I’m too well disposed on this things and my point of view is distorted, but I genuinely can’t understand the rage. Haven’t logged on since the end of the event but people say that precursors prices are dropping, so if I (playing WvW almost all the 2 hours i spend in game) have 30g saved in storage and a character already in full exotics I guess people who play more intensively than me could afford a precursor in a month.

In short, I don’t see the need to rage because of disparity of loot, rage for the boots and disconnections is already enough.

Sorry for my eventually bad English, I’m still getting better at it.

The people coming out of the portal also don’t seem to know where to attack most of the time because we aren’t rendering yet. If you actually have good voice comms it seems like culling actually works against the team that’s portalbombing rather than the team defending against it.

Exactly my point. That’s why I hope they’d leave portal as it is.

Have been playing a mesmer since headstart, in the last couple of days I started to look at WvW.
I was not aware of the rendering issue and i suspect almost 80% of people using stealth (mesmers & thieves) is in same situation as me. Let them fix this, I say; then let’s think about portal and its imbalance.

Anyway, my 2 cents on the main argument:
As soon as you portal in the middle of a zerg, you are affected by the same rendering issues as they are, effectively putting you in the same disadvantage.
Second, it takes coordination to get a great number of people to the other side of a portal (not mentioning the fact that I need to be in that place first): many players won’t notice that big purple thing on the ground or they would think it’s an enemy portal (this could be avoided if, as mentioned before, an effect like the house on shadow refuge would be added) making difficult to get the portal bomb going if not on a teamspeak server.
An elementalist shocking field would hinder its usefulness in my opinion: you have a lot of people standing in one spot, without the ability to move away from it unless they choose to get stunned for a while (as long as i tested, shocking field cannot be dodged through), so, if a smart ele sees it, rendering issue or not, you have time to point your sieges there.

So, in short, I don’t think it needs to be nerfed now. I’d like to use it when the rendering issue is fixed and see if it’s still gambreaking or not; note that I don’t think it is, because the issue affects both teams.

Have pity of me if there are some grammar errors and such, I’m posting from phone and English is not my primary language! :P

I like the idea! I’m a big fun of rifle and always make sure to have reduced CDs for key abilities on it, also, with 10 points in tool and spamming your Surprise shot you’ll restore 10% of your endurance in addition to shoot the lighting bolt. Gogo dodges go! Gonna give it a try, defintely! (would be better if, since vigor doubles your endurance regen, using toolbelt under its effect would make 20% of endurance regenerated, but this would be too OP i think)

I already tried the way of the healing bombseeder but it doesn’t fit my playstile very well; i wanted to hinder the enemy damage, not heal trough it.

Might give it another try, when i’ll make the money to buy cleric’s gear!

Ok so, 3 carrion pieces and 3 rampager’s? What about weapons and jewelry? I’d like to contribute a little bit in downig mobs and eventually be able to solo some casual pve or do DE, so (if possible) i’d like to keep a decent offensive capability; but thanks for the useful advices! I’m gonna buy my new set, a pistol and a shield today at tp!

Hello everyone, i just reached 80 with my engineer and now i’m starting to look at dungeon runs: story first (done only AC yet), and explorable later.
I enjoy play support role and i came up with a build which tries to maximise the concept of battlefield control through snares, knockbacks, weakness, blind and such.

I’m looking for advices from more experienced engineers on how to improve it: i think it looks good on paper, but will it be effective in dungeon teams?

My gear is currently rare knight set armor with rare berserker jewelry and weapon: would be worth it to change from rifle to pisol+shield to and use healing turret as #6 to get the most of blast finisher on its field?
