Hello guys, i haven’t been playing for some time and was thinking of returning.
I was playing a game where i could deal a mix of condi and direct damage,and i’d like to play in a similar way bere. Since mesmer was my main before leaving, and i was playing wvw exclusively, i’ll try and start from this profession.
So my question is: is there any possibility for a hybrid mesmer to work in roaming? Doesn’t have to be celestial, i read somewhere it’s not so great, but maybe a mix of some of other new armor choices implemented recently.

Hello guys, it’s been a while since i stopped playing but now i’m back and i’m enjoying my thief.
I see that now it’s possible to craft exotic celestial gear and was wondering if someone has already experimented with it in a hybrid condition/direct damage setup and is willing to share the results.
My funds are limited, so i’m afraid to waste so many materials on the wrong choice.

Yeah, me too, I drop at less than 10 fps sometimes, making very hard to avoid those circles. Guess I’ll try have wait an off-peak hour to try… +1 to the suggestion of making it an instance, that would be good too.

In ZvZ conditions are as effective (as I discovered myself ), so, if you plain to stick with zerg most of the time, I suggest you to try a direct damage approach, there’s just too many cleansing going on in zergfests.

Am I the only one thinking that the naming system is stupid? You go all the way from ‘Invader’ thru ‘Colonel’ and ‘General’ and right to ‘Legend’, then… you become an ‘Invader’ again (albeit a ‘bronze’ one). Greeaaat. That sounds all-powerful, not. I can’t wait to work my way up to the coolest title ever only to go back to the lowest.

Why on earth, if they wanted to do the bronze/silver/gold thing, didn’t they just put esentially the three colours of name in the same category; so bronze Knight > silver Knight > Gold Knight > Platinum Knight etc etc BEFORE you get to beign a Major?

This would also ease confusion in knowing at a quick glance how ranked your opponent is. See a bronze invader, in a flash think it’s a regular one and that it’s a newb, when in fact they are rank 150!

Seriously Anet, switch it around!!

Because with this system they can add ranks without touching the existing ones, in the other way you propose they should modify the entire ranking system each time they add a rank.

Engineers are already useful in game, maybe you can’t speedrun CoF in 7 mins with them, but not all game revolves around CoF farming.

People with additional chromosomes (usually 1) are those affected from down’s syndrome.

Something wierd happened to me yesterday in EB: I was facing an engineer (don’t know if from green or blue server, can’t remember atm) and suddendly I dropped from 7k to dead without passing from downstate. Don’t know if it’s a bug or this “instagib” hack someone is saying, but it’s definetly worth looking into it. Oh, and despite not being outmanned, my armor didn’t take any damage from death, just like when you fall down a cliff.

Please help me improve my build

Well, I often use my tk but never felt I needed the CD reduction on its skills, just because I always have something else at my disposal and I’m often busy with something else; might try that tho.

I didn’t trait for deadly mixture because I don’t use ‘em for damage, just for the utility they bring (knockback and blinds with FT, and cripples, condition clenases and area healing with EG), so I think I don’t need that trait… Plus my power is ridicolously low so I won’t make any serious direct damage anyway…

I run with 20 points in inventions because I want the CD reduction on shield: I love it and think it’s the best shield in the game, so I tend to use it whenever possible.

I also thought I could use rocket boots, tried them once and found them amazing, but I really don’t know what to drop in favor of them. I never tried mine seriously, so I might give it a go and see if I like it.

I dropped elixir-infused bombs some time ago tho, when I dismissed bombs due to the nerf to confusion…

Thanks for the input by the way, you’re suggesting me to move to a more damaging/less supporting playstyle and I shall try to see if I like it!

Hello guys, I’m seeking advice on how to improve the build I’m currently running in W3. It’s a build focused on support, through heals (2 or 3x blasts in my waterfield), condition removals, and some cc in the form of knockbacks and pulls. This is the link.

What I’d like to know, is if some of you already tried a similar build with different equipment and how it performs without healing power gear, because as now my conditions don’t pack a punch stronger enough to down someone quickly.

I play this build in a group setup (2 to 5) and sometimes while zerging.

I ran 30/30/10/0/0 prior to the patch to achieve 100% duration on conditions and now that we got burning on crits it’s even better: people melt with 8s burning every 10 on top of other conditions we can apply So i’d go with your first build

This patch made me return to my necro and i’m considering to buy a direct damage set to try the new wells as well

Following Hjulstad.6317’s tiers i’d put engineer in t2 for ~20v20 (which on my server we call zerg v zerg) mostly because of its amount of blast finishers, knockbacks, pulls, snares that make him able to manipulate the battlefield at will. I think that grenades come close to this through area denial, but i’m not playing them so i don’t know.

Anyway, for me it’s:

  1. guardian, necromancer, elementalist
  2. warrior, engineer, mesmer
  3. thief, ranger

Anyone "getting a lot more Ecto"?

I got sieges blueptrints and greens. I can’t use ascended stuff because there’s no attribute combination that benefits me, but some ectos would’ve been nice to cover the upgrade costs…

The overcharge of turrets doesn’t take place immediatly after you press the button: you have to wait the next “cycle” for it to activate. You can avoid this delay if you buttonmash the skill when you put down the turret, in that case it will overcharge right after it’s been placed.
I returned to play engineer since the change to healing turret and sticked to it, it never failed to activate for me. Try to overcharge it right away and see if it still fails.

Now you gain benefits from your sigils when wielding a kit; also, swapping in and out of a kit counts as a weapon swap for sigils that trigger on swap.

You all forget that the best class to contest keeps is a necromancer.

Yes, it WAS stupid.
Because in reality, that patch REMOVED the ability to do that. The patch note is a typo.
Go actually try it for yourself.

I think something is wrong then, I’m doing this since I’ve read it on patch notes. Maybe some other guy is contesting a gate at the same time I’m hitting a wall? could be… I don’t know, I always thought it was me contesting things.

With all respect, I wouldn’t want pve players taking slots on any map: if they’d make the rewards better, we’d have a lot of pve’ers grinding guards, players and such to gain ranks and chest, while some wvw veteran who runs dolly, guards towers, orders upgrades and generally helps the server is stuck outside of wvw in queue. I’m fine with rewards chests tbh; I only need money for repair bills, upgrades, and nothing else. I also am not particulary interested in ascended stuff: their bonuses in regards to exotic items are so small that they aren’t worth it to me.

Also, sorry for my eventually bad english, I’m kinda tired and didn’t re-read my post.

  1. The unique playstyle: I took a break from my necro in favor of my guard but its gameplay gets boring after a while (wvw-wise), i find our lack of in combat mobility is less forgiving and so more challenging and fun.
  2. Epidemic: definitely my favorite skill in whole game. Cast it on minions or pets and laugh. I also found that jumping while casting it helps avoid “obstructed” message.
  3. Being underestimated: sometimes people engage us expecting a quick victory, but they get a quick defeat instead.
  4. Fear: no one should ever engage us near a cliff.
  5. Last but not least, our access to chill: enough said.

RoF will you cry all the time ? You don ‘t have the number, hack, Quebecois (let me laugh about it), public holidays… Deal with it, WSR are not crying and they’ re facing same problems. They’ re fighting.

I’m fine with having less numbers and not having a night team, honestly, I’m fine with public holidays too. That’s the life. I only wish Anet would do something to prevent exploits/hacks/whatever usage.

When i run dungeons with guildies i run an AH build too. After reading this paragraph i tweaked my armor a bit to waste a minor amount of attributes on zerker equipment.
As now, i run all zerker armor with the exception of helm and leggings (which are knight’s) and all zerker trinkets with the exception of rings (knight’s too) but i slotted runes of the warrior for a bit more vitality and 1 less second cd on swapping.
My weapons are all berserker and on the ones i use more (hammer and gs) i slotted might on swap sigil to gain the most out of my runes.

If you want to maximize the healing from AH, i suggest you to replace pure of voice with empowering might when conditions aren’t a problem.

PET Redesign:

  • Maximum 5-10% of total HP can be took in a single second, so they won’t die by one hit.

Yes, I want rangers to be good, yes, they need to be reworked, but giving pets permanent Protective Bond/Protective Spirit just isn’t the way at all.

Players can take 100% of their HP in a single hit, why shouldn’t pets?

Why can’t pets?..Because 50% of all rangers traits are either auto assigned, or designed around the pet. I would like to see you play your favourite class and get 50% of traits removed in a single hit on a A.I controlled companion that has poor targeting skills and very lack luster response to commands and micro managing, that can be confused if the foe runs around a rock or heaven forbid..dodge roll, that also won’t attack a target that is not running in a straight line, that is running slower than them with their back to them. The pet by anet design is an extension of the ranger them self. I personally just want to play and not even have a pet like in gw1. However anet has made it that a pet must always be present..regardless if you want one or not. Hope this answers your question as to why a ranger pet should not be allowed to die in a single hit.

Are you sure you aren’t a necromancer instead of a ranger?

I used to display “combat healer” to trick people like you (not trying to sound harsh here) to engage me recklessly; i also have my toons equipped with heritage or low level skins to look like the newest of new players. When titles disappeared and the option to show placeholders instead characters armor came, I lost my steady income of lootbags when roaming alone. So, i’m partially on your side: i’d like to have an option to toggle their display.

I would like to say one thing in defense of RoF: Italian community there has some numbers, and more than 2 commanders are Italian too; fact is, that days from 4/25 to 5/1 in Italy are vacation days when they come with sunday and saturday in between. So people luckier than me spend these days away from home and from wvw. I’m not saying only Italians play wvw, but this could be the cause you guys see less dedicated wvw’ers online.

Using the gw2buildcraft.com calculator, the highest I could get was 3030 Condition Damage, which would give 194 damage per bleed tick.

Note that the link does not include the 25 stacks of Might and the 25 stacks of Minor Corruption, so the number there is not the maximum.

The link only says 1905 condition damage.
Also… just read my calculation a few posts above, the absolute maximum is 195. There is no way that you can have 194 without the sigil and might.

He said the number there does not include 25 might stacks and sigil. So you need to put them manually in the calculator once you open it. If you do that, you’ll se it hit 3030 cond. damage and so 195/tick bleed damage.

Nice ideas, I like king of the hill battlezones in particular. I think, tho, that the system you’ve proposed for capturing a keep favors the faction already outmanning the other. I mean, if a team deploys twice the people of another they will have an even easier time to capture the objective the way you suggested. Am I missing something? Something like the old disease might be insanely op in wvw… Each player affected spreads it to 5 other players, and in less than 10 seconds, you have an entire zerg affected with disease. Would be cool, but i think it wouldn’t last a day before being removed.

How about this condition: Gives 25 stacks each of all boons to enemy until purged/timer runs out.

This gives both sides a dilemma:

  1. The boons make them very susceptible to warrior boon hate.
  2. Makes the enemy very very powerful, but if they cure the condition, they lose all the boons.

I don’t know if you’re serious, but… There are 9 boons in this game: Warriors will get a talent which increases damage for 3%/boon, netting a 27%. With protection, they’ll do -6% damage instead of -33%, so at least you’d want to give them a single stack of every boon outside of protection, to let warriors reach +24%.

Since we already have wide access to damaging conditions (except burn), I’d like to see a more “tactical” condition, something that hinders the effectiveness of enemies in combat… Something like ‘counter-haste’ would be cool, think of Shadow of Fear in gw1.
Or, alternatively, something that makes foes unable to get boons, since boon hate is so popular these days: like Shadow Shroud.

I hope they give us a complete new condition: not another damaging one or some cripple/chill derivate.

Never tried something similar so I’ll ask you: wouldn’t be better to use sw/torch? They both have a skill with multiple hits (sw3 and tor5) and will trigger justice more often than gs. Since Permeating Wrath burns the area around you might be good… I don’t know tho… I don’t have enough money to buy a condition set to test this in pve/wvw.

Yesterday i played about 2 hours: most of the time i ran yaks back and forth ogrewatch to let it upgrade as fast as possible. I expected an evening of boredom and speedbuff spamming but, while the fortify upgrade was completing, the dzagonur zerg shows up. Thanks to my other 3 party members ogre was already full of siege machines and we were able to hold them and finally push them back. I really want to thank you guys for the fun, you gave a sense to all my mindnumbing and thankless task. See you again in game!

These countless posts by carebears who clearly know nothing about the combat mechanics of the game, really kitten me off. Whenever there is something they can’t counter with button smashing (stealth, confusion), they come here to cry. In a duel setting confusion mesmers can be countered in many ways, one of those being conditions. They don’t often have room for condition removal, and a condition build allows you to play very passively, waiting for the confusion to go off.
If in a team fight you get stacked up confusion, ask (in TS) for a nearby ally to cleanse them – that’s what everyone always did in GW1. GW1 was FULL of confusionlike effects, yet people could easily deal with them via team play.
It’s quite obvious that GW2 enjoys the “new generation” of mmo players: instead of asking for their team mates to help, they ask the devs to dumb the game down to their zombie zerging level.

This is so full of truth. I miss the old gw1 days of actual teamplay…
