Events in this game are designed around the idea that there’s always going to be a large group of people doing it. Temples in Orr, Silverwastes, Guild Bountys, Treks, everything. To do a basic guild bounty you need enough people to down the boss, which takes around 15-20 people, then have some scouting the next bounty, which can be anywhere in the world.

Smaller guilds have no chance to make it unless you recruit like crazy and lower your standards for getting decent people.

I think ascended gear has had a long enough run as craft-only. I’m not suggesting that they rain from the sky, just set the drop rate significantly lower than exotics but higher than precursors. Someone who plays an hour or two daily should reasonably expect one or two of them every week. That wouldn’t diminish the need to craft, since most people will opt for a reliable approach anyway.

An hour or two daily and one or two every week? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I play a lot more than that with 200%+ MF and even exotics do not drop that often.

We’ll get pigs as flying mounts before that happens.

You almost got ascended gear not to long ago. It was originally planned as a piece at the end of every month, but you had to log in every day. I’ll do without ascended. It’s the only reason to craft anyways and crafting in this game sucks.

Either we have lots of trolls here, or most of the ppl simply don’t get it.
Three easy examples:
1. Silverwaste Events -> No drops at all, maybe grey stuff
2. Personal Story enemies -> No drops
3. Unidentified Dyes -> Not dropping anymore, not from enemies nor from plants

Just to annoy some of the new players here: When I started GW2, I got my Abyss dye from a level 17 zentaur in Kessex Hills. Yes, there were times when you got good things from regular enemies.

Pretty much. I mean just an example. You complete personal story and kill Zhaitan. Zhaitan being the dragon that according to lore “an entire nation’s army couldn’t kill.” Raises a continent from the bottom of the ocean, and floods the world with zombie army. But when you kill him; this monster of unfathomable power, what do you get?

50 silver and a hat. Literally.

I’ll agree that the PvP community in this game is horrible.

~ If you’re not G.W.E.N, you’re garbage.
~ If you’re spec isn’t meta, you’re garbage.
~ If you don’t one shot or global someone, you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t carry your team while they’re AFK, you’re garbage.
~ If you take one single hit, you’re mocked and you’re garbage.
~ If you can’t kill 3 people at once, you’re garbage.
~ If you go down because 3 people are wrecking you, you’re garbage.

It goes on forever. Though there’s a difference between venting and being salty. Venting is when you’ve enough and blow it off. Salt or being salty is keeping it bottled up, being a baby about it and throwing a fit when someone gets lucky.

If you want to point a finger at someone for the communities attitude, point it at A.net. If dungeons in this game weren’t so horribly broken – Run, stack, run, stack, run, stack, skip this trash, run, stack, and give players content that can be taken as something other than a joke, attitudes would improve. Perhaps pug’ing wouldn’t be a nightmare.

If Magic Find in this game wasn’t broken, players wouldn’t salty because loot would drop. And just to give you an example of how MF is broken, go your Trading Post, see how many pres and legendaries are up for sale then note how many people are wearing a legendary. Strange that the percentage ratio to pres dropping, which you need for a legendary is somehow skewed compared to how many months players; who’ve been around since release with 300% MF have yet to see a pre outside of the Trading Post.

If PvP in this game wasn’t polarized between zerker and bunker, players would have a reason to use other builds, gear and talent set ups. Reducing the chance for elitism. Now am I saying that it’s all A.net’s fault? No, but they certainly aren’t doing anything to address the problem. There aren’t any plans for dungeon tweaks, no revamps, no looking at reward vs risk for all content. Maybe if they gave a kitten about their game others would have better attitudes.

2. The loot from the chest doesn’t change based on the tier of the labyrinth.

It’s funny how many people think it does, though.

Not saying it does, but if it doesn’t, what’s the point of having a tier system that requires more pods to get to increase the tier? Why not just leave it at tier one and have the maze?

The loot in the LESSER nightmare pods gets better with the tiers. The greater nightmare chest stays the same regardless of tier.

That makes me hopeful and want to do the event again considering my friend got a Dusk out of one. But can you show me proof? A post of some kind that proves the loot is better?

You can’t stop botters because lazy players go to sites to buy gold and wind up with a keylogger or rootkit on their computer and their accounts get stolen. Or they sign up with one Email to everything with the same password and the admins of the bad site will try to log into GW with those details and take accounts.

I was half brain dead and decided to try it and it works!! It’s a shortcut to use your keypad as a mouse from the old days of computers. Can this thread be mad a sticky so players can save their mice from being clicked to death?

Alt + Shift + Num Lock to activate this feature and double tap 5 on your keypad. You can still use your mouse as well. To turn it off press Alt + Shift + Num Lock again.

People are not reading LFG

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shivan.9438

I feel you 100% OP.

In SW, it can be a hassle to taxi people in for Vinewrath. My typical taxi for Vinewrath reads “SW/VW *LEAVE GROUP after joining map.” And even then people still don’t leave group. When I kick people they get mad and want to know why I kicked them.

When I ask them “Did you read the LFG?” *crickets."

I blame Anet. (And I feel it’s warranted.) It’s the zerg mentality of “ZOMFGRAWRGOGOGOGOGO!!” That’s been enabled by poor gameplay design and when regarding mechanics. Breaking that mentality is going to be hard though. It’s like trying to stop a dog from killing chickens once it’s got a taste for them.

I say kick them hard enough to leave boot polish on the back of their teeth and before you do. “Learn to read LFG.” or if that’s too complicated for them to understand you can always tell them. “L2P, L2R LFG.” I think that last one will be understood better for some reason.

GW2 going simple

Dev’s for Anet have been quoted for saying they like to challenge MMO content, meaning that they don’t want to do what everyone else has done. While that’s a good idea to make your game unique, you can’t re-invent the wheel every day. Sometimes things work and it’s best to go with it, even if other games have done it. I can’t recall a single thing that Anet has done with GW2 that’s different other than the no trinity concept. By making games simple or easier it’s a quick way to get some revenue and get people to play and buy the expansion when it comes out.

But just like in a lot of other MMO’s veterans will get fed up because there’s no challenge and leave and then the game is filled with simple minded people and the community goes down the toilet. Blizzard and WoW are a perfect example of making things simple.

“Shake it Off” has been getting worse and worse for dungeons. In AC P1, the gravelings before the final boss (Howler) are able to bounce you around through it. Rampage is iffy as well. Works a little over half the time.

Just now, before the patch, myself and 2 guildies were running HotW P1 and were constantly getting pulled, bounced around and knocked back in the tunnel just before the end boss. (Butcher) It specifically says under Rampage that you cannot be pulled yet it happens either by the Svanir Ballista’s or the Icebrood Elementals.

One way or another, Rampage and Shake it off aren’t workin properly 100% of the time now with the changes to stability. Even with multiple stacks of it on you.

I’m glad that Abaddon was behind the Searing and sinking of Orr. It serves the humans right for squabbling over magic then begging the gods for help. If you can’t play with your toys responsibly, your race deserves to be extinct.

When an NPC asks for help because the situation they’re in is a result of doing something incredibly stupid, I turn my back and walk away. I don’t help stupid people, let them suffer. Lesson learned.

I rooted and still root for the Inquest when they attack the labs in Metrica. You can’t make progress without going to the edge. The regular Asura are afraid and should embrace change.

When I role play and see other people in Orr downed and trying to rally, I watch and wait to see if they die and become Risen.

I have to agree that RNG in this game S U C K S.
MF isn’t any better.

I regularly group with a person who has well over 10k hours, 11k Achievement Points, has never seen a pre outside of the Trading Post, max MF, and only has found 1 Ascended weapon.

I have almost 6k AP, been playing a little since Scarlet Assault on this account. I’ve gotten 2 Ascended Chests in SW and at that moment, I had 140 something MF.

Another friend has been playing less than me, and at the moment she found a Dusk, she had 94% MF, less than 3k AP and got it out of a Lesser Nightmare Chest in SW.

MF and RNG in this game is an atrocity. I don’t even farm anymore for money. I flip stuff on the Trading Post. Anet should be ashamed and shamed until something is done about the loot vs risk vs effort in this game.

As long as lazy players exist, gold sellers will too. The way to stop gold sellers isn’t to block and report and hope they get banned. That’s only a bandaid on a broken leg. Accounts that have been compromised should be banned forever and then deleted. It seems harsh, but in the end, the person who’s account was compromised will learn two important lessons.

1.) Don’t go to gold selling sites and try to buy gold.
2.) In case you were keylogged, take better care of your computer and game account.

I remember as a kid, if I messed up, my bike or video games were taken away. There’s no punishment when people don’t take care of their property or do something stupid. Pavlov has a point.

Quick Edit. When you have to buy the same game multiple times because your accounts are taken, it will be worth it to take things a bit more serious when your wallet starts getting thin or your credit card is too hot to handle from all the swiping.

When someone sends you a PM, report him or her. Hit the ! (exclamation point) in the lower left of the message and send it over for review.

If everyone would take this simple step before deleting and blocking, the team would be able to make significant reductions in spammers! It’s fast. It’s effective. It’s appreciated.

I would imagine that implementing a “Do not disturb” function is something that would be complicated and time consuming. I don’t anticipate that it’s a system we’ll see in the near future, and we may never see such an option. Keep in mind, though, that we already have a means for you to handle these situations: report, block, delete. And using “invisible,” while not ideal, is another means at your disposal.

I’ve played on private WoW servers where you can’t whisper someone until you’re above level 19. A status can be made that no whispers except from GW staff will go through. It’s not hard to implement.

Gold spammers reborn?

Shivan.9438

Yet more evidence that systems like DR do not work and do not prevent bots or gold spammers at all. Their scripts didn’t break they just never worked in the first place.

What does diminishing returns have to do with gold spammers?

Haven’t you noticed that all of the gold spammers use stolen accounts at one point or another? Their main source of gold isn’t bot farming, it’s stealing accounts, liquidating all the assets, then sending it to their customers – customers who wind up getting their accounts stolen as well because they were dumb enough to fill out the registration form on gold seller sites with the same details they used to sign up for GW2.

You’d be surprised how many gamers don’t bother with software firewalls such as zone alarm, or bother to configure hardware firewalls in their modem or router. A lot don’t bother with anti-virus, anti-malware or even turn on their windows firewall. They just log on and play and go to any link sent to them willy nilly. I used to build, sell and fix gaming rigs and the amount of people that came to me wanting their machine fixed could have averted a lot of problems just by simply covering those basics.

The ridiculous imbalance between T7 mats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Shivan.9438

Supply and demand doesn’t exist in MMO’s and I laugh then I see it used.

Mats are plentiful? Let’s charge as much as we can to make money.
Mats are scarce? Let’s charge as much as we can to make money.

People need to learn how a real MMO economy works.

First rule is never undercut. Ever. When you undercut, you make the mats less valuable and you lose money. A piece of leather is a piece of leather. No matter if you salvage it from loot from a dungeon, fractal, world boss or random mob. If I spend an hour doing dungeons getting leather and a person spends 5 minutes doing a world boss, I want my leather to sell for a lot, so I’m going to list mine for a lot, because I think my time is valuable. So undercutting just shows that a seller is greedy and that stems from stupidity. Charge a little more and when the one under yours is sold, yours will be the next lowest to buy. The price will rise because everyone will overprice, but a price will be reached where players won’t spend that kind of money and they’ll farm it themselves. The prices will come back down and in the end everyone makes money. Never undercut. Ever.

Rule two. – Ignore hype. When people listen to hype and rush to make money, the market gets destroyed. The price of high end mats plummet because everyone thinks that an expansion will have new mats and the old mats won’t be worth anything. Never speculate on a market where price flux’s based on speculation. It’s like the blind leading the blind.

Follow this and watch your wallet get fat.

Can we get rid of all the chests?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Shivan.9438

Chests in this game, and loot in general makes no sense.

If a chest has loot in it, it should be preset, not random, yet the loot you get in chests is random. If loot is going to be random, then our magic find should factor into what we get. But loot from chests isn’t influenced from magic find.

I know people are going to say – “Oh look, its the same loot again.” But isn’t like that already? You open the chest at the end of Vinewrath and you get so many rares, so many greens and blues and they all get salvaged and the mats sold. Predictable.

Why not have magic find influence loot from chests and bags? It’ll make increasing magic find worth it. Wouldn’t it be nice to open a chest and get an exotic because you’ve spent all the time and money boosting it to 300% then run boosters and buffs? Sure people are going to power level it, but at the end of the day, it’ll reach 300 on it’s own and people will still get the same loot.

It’s crazy in this game, so is a lot of other stuff.

Quick Edit: It does make me wonder if MF really doesn’t influence anything in this game. A friend of mine opens a Lesser Nightmare Chest in SW and get a Dusk. I run Orr for months and SW when it comes out and see nothing but the same loot I can get elsewhere.

PLEASE make condition builds USEFUL in PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Shivan.9438

Condition damage won’t be useful in PvE as long as stacks are shared. The idea of raising the cap seems good in theory, letting other classes get their bleeds in, but all id does it make it a race to get your dots in and with world bosses, even a 50 cap is easily reached. It’s the Hatfield vs McCoy scenario. The only way to make Condi viable in PvE is for everyone to get their own bleed or Dot stacks. People are scream it lags the server, lags the connection, too much resources, etc. But there’s a hard fact that has to be faced. In a dungeon or world boss, how many condi classes are there stacking? And if that much reduces performance then Anet needs to step up or NC Soft and upgrade to handle the extra data from separate stacks.

Increases bleed stack size will only make Condi builds even more useless because they’ll have to struggle even more to get their dots in. Think about how quick 25 bleeds can get up on Grenth or Mel. Even if they increase it to 30, or 50 stacks, the problem is still there, Condi is shared.

Not to mention if they do increase stack size, what about old world content? It’ll have to be retuned, meaning bosses in Orr will need their HP increased to overcome being melted down even quicker by increased stack size.

I can’t say that in any of the the MMOs I’ve played that any of them have really cared about, or tried to engage the RP side of the community.

We get a few common use areas like taverns or clubs and are expected to make do for everything else. I wouldn’t expect anything different with this.

That’s one of the problems. Role players are here, we exist, we have been for a long time. We have been before raiding, before dungeons, before video games. We’ve been here since Gary Gygax. And yet, we’re still looked upon as red headed step children, or black sheep and always spoken about in hushed tones in video games. I’m betting 10 Charrs that we don’t even get clickable interactable chairs during the expansion. Guild halls should have been around from day one of this sequel and then player housing added later for the expansion. That might have kept players around or even attract role player from other games.

For the record, we do have a pretty decent RP community in GW2, and the game hasn’t been terribly unfriendly to us. It’s just not been especially supportive either.

I know, but instead of fixing the map when it comes to getting into the aquarium and other places they imply that it’s a pathing error by “fixing” tele/shadowstep and the like. They did the same thing by “fixing” farmable events. Instead of putting a cast on a broken arm, they just amputate it.

Why should they constantly spend resources to patch the maps when the only reason they were needing to was because of a skill(s) that was not behaving as they intended? I’d say that they made a great call as this now frees up time that they would have spent patching the map from exploits that could only be taken advantage of by using blink.

Exactly. There’s potentially hundreds of spots where the skills in question could be exploited, some for an unfair advantage, some for harmless fun. Do you spend the time locating, identifying, and fixing each individual spot throughout the expansive world, or fix the couple of skills being exploited?

It’s not a skill that’s being exploited. It’s lazy game makers that don’t ensure wall glitching is fixed from the start. This kind of “fix” could have been applied from day one and there would be no complaints. If it was so easily done in a patch why wasn’t it done in the developmental stages?

Now that role players have been using it to get into building for RP purposes or exploiters and cheaters using it in PvP or WvW it’s now suddenly something that needs to be “fixed.” Maybe if this game had guild housing like most MMOs have now a days or have guild halls from the start, because GUILD wars this kind of thing wouldn’t stir up any kind of stink.

I totally understand having to go AFK. My father is 74 and is dealing with COPD. I have to go tend to him when things get really bad. But in a zone like Silverwastes, it’s not a leveling map, it’s a map for doing events and getting loot. The AFK timer needs to be reduced specifically for that zone/map. Having to relog is nothing to complain over vs the whole VW failing because half your lane is AFK. Or active players wanting loot can’t be taxi’d in because a good slot is taken by an AFK’er.

Complaining about having to go AFK to deal with things in real life is a very skewed view of what’s important to begin with.

Or even worse, 15 people AFK in the Greater Nightmare Chest room, which causes more dogs to spawn, making it harder to run the maze for Nightmare Chests.

Q.) How much gold per hour you can get from farming?
A.) There’s no real definitive answer. How much gold you want depends on how aggressive you are in your game play. Some people don’t do anything but farm champs in Orr, where as others hit Arah, Melandru and Grenth. Then do all the champs and escorts.

Q.) Where is the best farming spot?
A.) Again there’s really not a definitive answer. If you want claws, then you need to find a zone or group of mobs that drop what you want and farm them.

Q.) What’s the best way/how to I go about getting a legendary.
A.) You can craft one, which takes a lot of time and effort. Farming maps, getting the gifts needed and getting a precursor. Or you can buy one from the TP. The thing to consider is generally, all of the mats you need, plus the price of the precursor totals to the same amount you’d spend on buying one straight up.

Q.) Where’s the best place(s) to farm T6 mats?
A.) Right now Orr and Silverwastes. You can spend your Laurels and buy T6 bags from the vendor to help supplement your farming, but if you’re going for a legendary or Ascended gear, you’ll need those to buy patterns.

Hope that helps new players.

I won’t know if they’re despawned until I get the download, but prior to, they haven’t.

DR is currently under attack by players littering the place with Toy Soldiers. It’s now beyond annoying. Can these things be despawned by a dev? I could name the guy that’s doing it but that’s against forum rules. This is clearly a bug and needs to be stopped. I can even take a screen shot if needed with the guy doing it. He walks between Ossan and Rurikton with a train of these things behind him. DR has been a noisy, annoying place to be every day for the last 3 days on TC.

Please de-spawn these things.

[Sugg] How to fix the Zerker Zerger problem

Fixing the Zerker/Zerg problem would require instituting the holy trinity – tank/dps/healer. If all there is in this game is DPS then people want to maximize their DPS to kill the boss quicker and get loot quicker. Blame that on Anet for not having that kind of foresight, not the player.

To further fix this, Anet has add mechanics to fights that you just can’t go – “ZOMFGRUSHBLOWITUP!!1111” Such as bosses putting shields on themselves that if they’re attacked with melee during a certain phase, the zerg wipes. During this phase, the mechanics come into play, like going to mortars to take down that shield, while casters DPS the boss with magic that penetrates the shield.

When you wipe enough, you’ll go “Hmm, maybe I should stop trying to chop that boss down with my face.”

Cheese Builds poisoning GW2

By cheese builds, do you mean gimmicky, one trick pony kind of things? Those do tend to get annoying and common place, but Anet always gets around to breaking them if they become OP and unbalance things. At least they did in GW1. It’s a trend in MMO’s, people come up with a shiny spec/talent tree and soon everyone starts to migrate to it, then it becomes stale when people figure out how to break it then it repeats itself. It’ll pass.

Correct, there is a back way in.

But the problem lies in the fact that for one – you can’t go up the middle to get your chest because there are more dogs that spawn and people rush up the middle, making it impossible. And two – the back door is becoming littered with bodies from AFK’ers for the measly event reward, and it becomes just as clogged with dogs because the back door is now starting to become the main way to get in.

Another problem is people dying in the chest room right on top of the chest, and then going AFK. It also makes it next to impossible to open the chest unless a blue moon shines and you mouse over it just right, otherwise you’ll start rezz’ing the dead AFK’er.

And all of this for what really? Because Anet offers piddle rewards; 3 sand, 2 bandit marks for not even bothering to play the game, but it’s still enough for greedy lazy gamers, who would otherwise bot, to linger.

AFK’ing in the chest room causes dogs to spawn because there’s more people and makes it harder for people who are actually running the labyrinth. Gonna do something about the AFK’ers yet Anet?

What is going to be done about it? Not an answer from a player who thinks that thinks they know the ELUA or what the dev’s think, how about a Dev or Anet rep voice their opinion.

If they haven’t answered you yet, they aren’t likely too, because the players aren’t doing anything wrong. Besides that? It’s Christmas Day.

You’re asking for a Dev to come in here and comment on Christmas Day?

Good luck with that.

I never said it had to be Christmas day. Your sarcasm was wasted.

I find it hilarious that some people are in here posting for the sake of debating and fence riding without vesting in the over all point, which is, these AFK farmers are earning rewards without playing the game and taking advantage of a design flaw with the character class and exploiting it. No matter which way it’s cut, that is the point. They’re not playing the game, they’re AFK and getting loot.

Back on topic – What is going to be done about it? Not an answer from a player who thinks that thinks they know the ELUA or what the dev’s think, how about a Dev or Anet rep voice their opinion.

This is going back on the first page of threads. No necro for this thread. If Anet can comment on bugs involving mini’s they can read a thread about abusing game mechanics.
