I don’t PvP so I can’t tell you. But in PvE, they’re mediocre.

A lot of it is Anet’s idiotic decision to make Mordrem resistant to melee, forcing people to go condi. And that’s where the DH is gibbed. You have 2 choices and you have go all or nothing, you can’t build an effective hybrid. It’s the same as it was before. Zerker vs Condi.

If you try a hybrid, you’re stuck with not enough physical damage and not enough condi. You can go Rabid or Rampager’s and try get the best of both, since your condi is burn and tied to precision. But that leaves you doing piddle for physical damage, which Mordrem are already resistant to. The burn isn’t all that great to begin with since it doesn’t stack intensity and duration doesn’t last.

This is where traps have the only redeeming quality: finishing off mobs and letting you kite. Kiting is also a good way to get yelled at. Heavy Light let’s you knock mobs back and tied with Dulled Senses (4s Cripple and 8s Vuln.) it saves your butt. And then you’ll be screamed at by the melee for knocking mobs back.

You can go zerker and ranged, but make sure you write your death note and hand them to a friend to give you to momma, because if you get hit, you’re worm food. You need that Vitality and Toughness and that means no zerk.

DH could have been good, it has a lot of good ideas in the trait lines, but in typical Anet fashion, they have no direction, focus or foresight and gibbed the class. Traps did have bleeds which made them good in PvE, but since Anet hasn’t separated PvE and PvP like Gw1, they took bleeds out. Too powerful in PvP I guess.

The time it takes to rewrite a game so that it adapts to newer graphics is insanely high.

They had 10 years.

In fact, the only game I’ve ever known to go to such length and stay up to date is Eve Online.

Unless Anet had recieved zero funding from NC Soft or sat on their butts… if Eve Online can put forth the effort, so can Anet.

One of Anet’s common replies to not having what other games offer is “It’s not in our skillset.” Really? In 10 years a company can’t hire people to do the job or be picked up by a parent company that can offer them support and make the game better and take care of a 5+ year old franchise?

PvP (EotM, WVW, EBG, sPvP) It should be it’s own entity, completely separate from PvE. Abilities, cooldowns, everything should be different. By trying to keep the two together, it winds up creating imbalances that Blizzard dealt with for years.

GW1 minimum is DX8. Recommended is DX9. It’s also been a few years since GW1 as well. Newer games that are out use DX11. At the very least move to 11. If they want to make the claim to improving the game and making things grow, start with that.

I’m going to try it their way. For starters I know the thread has been made and many of them, but it’s really annoying now.

Some of us don’t like PvP. Some of us don’t like to watch streaming PvP. Some of us don’t like E-Sports. So I am asking A.Net to give us the ability to turn those orange adverts on the right hand side of the screen OFF.

Ask yourself: “How can I make this content better?"
*Answer: As stated before, it would be better to give players who are not interested to disable or turn off this off. It would make some players a LOT happier to not have to close them all as soon as we change screens.

Consider: How have you seen this particular problem solved in other games?
Answer: – Yes. In GW 1 We had a fully customizable UI that let us move things around and get rid of what we didn’t want.

Consider: How do you think this particular element or aspect of the game could be improved?
Answer: By giving us a customizable UI or an option to turn it off/disable it. Aka, not have this on our screens.

Tell us why: If we ask a specific question, don’t just answer it—tell us why you answered that way.
Answer: You haven’t asked, so I am as have other players in the past.

Not everyone cares about E-Sports and you already have the advertisement on load screens. To force it at us (and yes, by not giving us the ability to get rid of it is forcing us) to accept it is frustrating and worsens a growing sour opinion about A.Net.

Long term success is built around a backbone that ironically can’t be changed, and since it ain’t broke nobody need talk of ‘fixing it’.

If GW2’s backbone is considered ‘meh’ then start work on a GW3? lol

Are you nuts? How long did we have to wait from GW1 to 2 and we get an unfinished rushed beta for a core game. You should have been here for the Karma BS and farm nerfs because devs have ZERO foresight.

Need Help. Screen Freezes, Data Corruption

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Shivan.9438

I’m running into some serious problems with GW2+HoT.

It started about 2 weeks ago. My screen would freeze randomly, but the sound would keep going. I’d exit the game, reboot and things would be back to normal for a little bit. However after an hour, game sounds would start skipping. For example if an NPC said something, it would stutter and repeat what it was saying. “Hey-ey-ey-ey, that farmer up the hill just punched me in the fa-ce-ce-ce-ce.” That is the tell tale sign that I’m about to get screen freezes again.

I’m not a complete idiot and figured that my game data wasn’t working right so I repaired it following the steps on the website. The game ran fine for a few days and then the game would start screen freezing, NPC speech and sounds skipping. Then finally, night before last I tried to log in and GW2 popped up and said that the last time I had run GW2 it encountered a problem and that the data may be corrupted, and recommended that I let GW2 repair the client. I said yes.

It repaired itself and when I tried to log in, I got a notification saying that GW2 can no longer run, contact support. I uninstalled the game, downloaded it again and when I tried to install, it told me that my A: drive was open, that I should check the volume information and it couldn’t install.

1.) I don’t have an A: drive.
2.) My C: drive has over 500 gigs. So it’s not a volume problem.

I cancelled everything, rebooted and got the game to install. Things were running great for a day; 12 hours. Then it started the screen freezes again and the sound skipping. I logged out just a while ago and GW2 tells me that it encountered a problem the last time it was loaded, needed to repair. Again I said yes.

The screen freezes still happen. I’m at my wits end here. Repaired, new install, still same problem.

CPU: AMD Athalon 2 XII – 250, Video Card: ATI Radeon 7500 Series. (Up to date drivers) 4 gigs of RAM. Windows 7 64 bit edition.

Up until now, I’ve been able to play the game fine, no problems, so I can’t figure why it’d be a RAM problem, video card problem or even a CPU problem. This is getting nerve racking, as this install is not even a full day old and the problems are back. I can also play other games just fine.

You don’t need ascended, the elitists need ascended. Everything in this game can be done in exotics as ascended gear only offers a 5% increase. And why would you want to game with those kind of people?

HoT maps getting empty ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Shivan.9438

That is until Anet dev’s figure out that that aint the place to put the raid entrance.

And IF they only want guilds to do it and NOT random pugs like someone claimed,
then they’d better put the access INSIDE the Guildhall.
You know, so only guilds can do it.

But wouldn’t that be unfair to HoT players who don’t have acess to a guildhall …?

All weird stuff going on, and strange decisions from the dev’s. Add more armor options, but force ppl into a meta again for the raids. I still can’t wrap my head around some of their views. Weird stuff indeed.

Anet’s design philosophy has been weak regarding all of GW2. There’s literally no sense of foresight. They put in Karma, make the grind for the cost of it mind numbing, only to turn around and make the exact same gear easier to craft and bind on equip. They still offer Karma, but there’s nothing new to buy.

They put champs in a zone, sometimes within spitting distance of the way points and didn’t expect people to simply hop around and farm champs? Then when players decide to become kittens and troll the champ farmers, by killing those champs before the zerg hits, they don’t ban the players involved, they nerf the champs. (Hey Anet, kittens are kittens, no matter which zone they’re in. Nering content doesn’t make a person nicer.)

Players say they want new content. But HoT is just SW 2.0. You have a series of small events to complete before a big event. They just added participation rewards in the over all scheme and called it a meta map completion. Nice idea, but 200% map participation rewards suck.

Risk vs reward. We won’t get into that.

Anet has literally no clue, or they’re so desperate to cling to their idea of challenging MMO content that it’s sinking to the level of sticking your fingers in your ear and chanting “LALALALALA ICANT HEAR YOU LALALALA” and just throw out content without thinking about the effects it has on other parts of the game.

How to TP undercut

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Shivan.9438

Undercutting is ridiculous and I laugh at people who do.

- A piece of iron ore is a piece of iron ore. Doesn’t matter if you get it from a bag, a boss or mining it. Why would a person list theirs for less unless they’re stupid? Unless they believed that selling theirs first is the profit, instead of the coin sitting in their bank.

- Supply and demand means nothing in a world where supplies are infinite. Think about this. Supply and demand is based on the premise that when materials are low, the price goes up. There will never be a limit on cloth, ore, leather, or any other material. Therefore, there is no demand to cause materials to rise in price, except out of greed. The only materials that should get expensive are seasonal, like candy corn. T6 mats should never cost more than any other tier of material. Once you reach 80 the access to all tiers of material is equal.

- Value and worth. There is a difference between these two words and I believe a lot of people don’t know it. A piece of Mithril ore is roughly 50-60 copper. This is how much it’s worth. However, to someone that really needs a piece of Mithril ore might pay 2 gold because they’re in a pinch. That’s value.

- When listing an item, charge more than the other player. Why? Don’t you think you’re time is worth it? I certainly think my time is worth it. If you and another player are fighting the same boss at the exact same time, why would you put yourself in a position to lose money by undercutting, when you get the same item and have put in the same amount of time and effort?

- Prices will never get out of control. Sure they’ll go up when everyone is listing them for more. But soon the price will get to a point where a person will say – “That’s not worth it.” And will go farm it themselves. The prices will come back down since the value of the item will have reached it’s peak.

That is not true though? Materials get consumed and leave the market. People gathering puts it back into the market, but drop chances and just, the amount of people willing to gather a certain thing do influence the supply rate.

What I’ve said it’s true. The materials in the market never have and never will leave the market in such an amount to cause a massive spike in prices.. You’re correct in saying that the people out gathering do influence the supply rate, but supplies in game are infinite. The proof lies in the fact that for years Elderwood and Mithril have been the lowest selling material, but even when they’re plentiful as they’ve always been, the prices are rising due to needing them for upgrading guild halls. Before HoT Elderwood logs sold for half a silver, give or take, but after the release, they went up to a silver piece or more and the places to get them is still there. The supply is still plentiful. This debunks supply and demand in this MMO.

Having a tab that would allow us to drop the gear in and switch to them for every instance would get a lot of applause. I’m pretty sure you could even make it a gem store upgrade. It’s long been said that the vocal minority will be the ones that developers pay attention to. Because the silent majority are willing to put up with change or quit.

People screamed that the content in GW2 was too easy, often solo’ed and zerg’d into the ground. Well Anet listened and put a stop to it. People moaned that they wanted to do stuff with their guild and that guild features were lack luster if not non-existant. What did Anet do? Do stuff with guilds so you need a group or a guild to complete stuff in the game.

People b!tched that mobs could get mowed over and the game was turning into a tag fest. So, Anet put in mobs that you can’t tag and run away from or plow over.

People asked for it, they got it. Beware that old saying. “Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.”

Perhaps next time, people will learn to speak up about what they want before allowing others to do it for them. “If you don’t ask you don’t get.”

Reap it.

Just to clarify things.

~ Gendarran Fields is listed on the map as a level 25-35 zone. So the people you should see are the ones at that level. Next events like Nebo Terrace use scripted mobs. Meaning that a vet or elite that comes by default is different than ones that spawn from scaling up the event. Scripted mobs have different hit points, armor rating and do more damage. These scripted mobs are too tough, plain and simple. To be able to complete this event at the level suggested by the map, you need an army, but that scales the event up as if it wasn’t impossible to begin with.

~ Trebuchets. These are by far THE worst piece of siege equipment to use in a PvE setting. I don’t even bother using them in Edge of the Mists simply because they’re only good for one thing; taking out bridges. The centaurs that claim Nebo Terrace vastly outnumber the amount of damage output of the trebs. I hit a centaur head on, I mean put the boulder right in his back pocket, did 300 damage and knocked him down. Then the horde of angry centaur came and tore the treb down in the matter of a few seconds. And that centaur that I hit for a whopping 300 got back up and kept running around the flagpole. Treb damage isn’t enough, it fires too slow, and is so weak it might as well be made of toothpicks and rubber bands.

~ The time on the event is too quick for the amount of mobs that you have to deal with.

~ I and other players don’t mind events being tough, it makes it fun, but when it’s almost impossible to do from the start and with the rework not too long ago, it needs to be looked over again. If a dev pays attention to this thread, keep track of how many times this event is done vs ignored due to hatred of it. Then look at how many wins vs losses. Finally compare the losses from not doing to event vs it failing because it’s so Eff’ed up from the get go.

Replace trebs with arrow carts or rework the trebs to make them worth using and defending. Stop using scripted vets, elites and champs with events that scale. Totally understandable that one person can’t defend and entire village from a horde of centaur, not even 5 or 10, but when it takes 10 to bring down ONE scripted mob and there are so many more… there’s just no amount of bread or ketchup that can make that sandwich worth biting into.

RIP Nebo Terrace.

This needs to be tweaked again because it’s still not do-able at the level for the zone. Even if with 30 people at the level, the centaurs are still too tough, too many vets and the trebs do crap for damage. 300 and a knock down on a direct hit is laughable. Not to mention that you get maybe 2 launches before the centaurs come tear down the treb. Get rid of these lame trebs and replace them with arrow carts. No where in this game are trebs useful outside of Edge of the Mists and even then, they’re not used that much except for trolling.

- Play test events internally from now on.

- Don’t recycle content with different colored skins and say it’s new.

- Stop adding content that can be mindlessly zerg’d. Waypoint hopping and blitzkrieg game play is novel at best. Anet wants to make the claim to challenge MMO content, then stop adding face roll events. A lot of us got tired of that from Blizzard.

- If you do add face roll content, then give us exp and loot from the mobs, not make us wait an hour for piddle-d!ck loot.

-Run a bomb to a giant plant to blow it up. Nah, that’s not toxic stalk.

- Giant plant is surrounded by generator or protectors that have to be destroyed. Nope, not toxic stalk at all.

- More zerging around the word. Yeah… that’s what we really, really want from you Anet. More content that trains people to just run in and faceroll enemies. Like we don’t get enough of that in Orr.

People would be happier if the devs would fix broken content instead of disabling it and adding in more broken content. Not to mention the rewards are garbage. If you’d add leveling tomes, you might get people interested because they have alts and their F2P friends would level with them.

There’s no viable way to make a pure healing class in GW2 without bringing in the trinity, simply because people have ways to heal themselves either by blast finishers on water fields people put down, a signet or healing skill. (#6) It’s a realistic approach to the idea they have to challenge traditional MMO content, meaning, F the trinity.

If you’re getting your butt handed to you, run, or heal yourself or stop DPS and let someone else take it. Or get better armor and runes. With the way people zerg through content, there’s literally no use to have a pure healer. With HoT, Anet is redesigning fights to include phases of combat or give chances at certain points in the fight to interrupt and if you don’t… hope you have insurance.

There’s just no need for a pure healer.

MMO in the sense of Massive Multiplayer Online (game) will always be around, as that is the nature of gaming, from FPS games to fantasy based MMO’s like World of Warcraft Final Fantasy 14, Aion and Rift. The Fantasy MMO/MMORPG? Yeah people leave.

Just to put things into perspective so others don’t make the mistake of thinking that one or two people a month leaving is something to ignore. It took Blizzard 11+ years to hit 10-11 million subscribers. But then in the last 3 years, they lost half of their customer base due to people quitting.

Think about that for a second. Nearly HALF of their customer base quit in 1/3rd of the time it took to build up that high. So when people say “I’m quitting.” once a week or once a month of the forums and people laugh, those are just the ones saying it. What about the ones that don’t? Now take a look at Arena Net’s published profits and compare it to the number of gamers and do the math.

What are the reasons for people quitting MMO’s?

Poor community.
Poor customer service.
Poor game design.
Poor game play.
Changes made by the development/management that players don’t agree with and sometimes make no flipping sense.
Lack of content.

Simply take a step back and watch.

Do Troll Guilds exist? (Teq)

Posted by: Shivan.9438

Do troll guilds yes? Yes, they most certainly do, and the smartest thing you can do is not talk about them. They want attention and they get it, all of the time. Anet doesn’t do anything about them because trolling, being an kitten and ruining what could be considered a good time is not covered in the rules. It’s actually a part of what is known as “Internet Culture” or the habits of the current generation of MMO players.

There’s nothing you can do but move onto another game or as they say “grow thicker skin.” As much as it should be against the rules to allow people to ruin events, spam chat channels, and troll people, a troll’s money is just as good as anyone else’s. And that’s the only thing gaming companies care about, the bottom dollar.

Get rid of this stupid limitation on Karma. We can buy exotics with the same stats from the Trading Post quicker than you can farm up the amount of Karma needed to buy a full set of temple gear.

We get it. In the beginning people made a lot of gold with Karma and you didn’t expect or anticipate that it would get out of hand as bad as it did or you didn’t think that Karma would be more valuable than gold. But it’s been a while now. With the upcoming expansion people are going to be blowing lots of money on new stuff and still amassing more Karma since there’s still nothing to spend it on. Spirit Shards will still stack up since people PvP and collect them.

You’re gonna get us visited by the 3 Christmas ghosts by making us hoard all of this stuff.

Guild Wars 2 sold around 7,3 million copies?

Maybe this whole “core game bundled with the expansion” thing is so they can legally say they sold another copy of the game just for selling the expansion.

Kinda slippery if you ask me.

Shhhhh!!! Think of the jimmies!! Do you want them rustled again?

Anet makes money from game sales and when people swipe their credit card in the gem store right? So if a player leaves the game because they’ve been harassed or griefed, Anet loses money. Now tell me why trolling, harassment and griefing don’t carry the highest penalties in the game? Or any MMO that relies on micro-transactions for income?

Take money out of my pocket and you’re kitten ed right you’re gonna catch the ban hammer.

Neural.1824 does have a point. – People who show up on the forums and say “grow thicker skin” are typically the ones that are harassing, bullying and causing trouble in chat. That’s one of the neat things about having your account name and number shown on the forums. Someone being a troll or causing some grief in game? Add them up and then search the forums for posts. Catch them being a hypocrite and then deflate them in front of everyone the next time they post.

Why am I losing crit %

On accident, I put my dagger with my axe instead of focus and noticed a drop in crit, from 73.19% to 67.47%

At first I thought it was a change in stats, but my dagger and focus both have 85 Power and 120 Precision.

Stats on Focus – 85 Power/120 Precision/ 85 Condi
Dagger – 85 Power/120 Precision/ 85 Ferocity.

But Ferocity doesn’t determine Crit %. If Power did, I’d understand, but both have identical Power and Precision. I checked the sigils and they’re just condi.

My spec doesn’t influence Precision either unless it’s on a foe below the threshold, but this is just flat out Crit drop on weapon change when the Crit stats are the same. I can post my build if needed.

The NPC’s that you can motorboat and make them repeat themselves over and over… it makes me want to ram an ice pick into my ears. I was doing Ooze King in Orr and that one NPC..

“Hey, keep quiet or you’ll give us away to the Orrians.”

When the zerg arrives it’s no longer us giving away the location to the Orrians, it’s that NPC.

SOOOOO… you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m tellin’ you why… MordreMOTH is coming… to town!!!

Can we get some additional lines for NPC’s in the Silverwastes? Day after day it’s the same.. friggin… thing.

This is why other games have Test Servers

PTS are pretty much a waste of time. One of the biggest examples of PTS fail was Reckoning in WoW. When a guy stacked it so much that he one shotted a world boss. It was hotfixed within 24 hours but did the Blizz devs stop to think “Ya know, with this unbound and stackable 1,000 times isn’t this a bit much?” Nah.

With the way Arenanet operates, they can’t afford to test internally. They don’t have enough time and people to dedicate to it. Can you really pull 20 people from their computer to go test a world boss, run around in WvW and expect the game, expansion and other projects in the works to continue smoothly? Nah.

Besides, if you think about it, every day you play this game, you’re playing on a PTS because they release new builds live and fix things live. Better than WoW where they let bugs run rampant for 6 months to 2 years, fix them in a patch and break the entire game for a week.

This is how GW1 was done and people loved it.

They didn’t lie to us, but they definitely made a shady business decision and bared their butts at everyone who’s stuck through the game after all of the crap. Anyone who’s never heard about GW2 and HoT can get the expansion and the core game for 50 bucks. While the people who’s stuck around get screwed because we were told that we had to have the core game first.

Its like going to a restaurant and the guy at the door saying that if you want to eat here you have to have our brand of jacket and tie. So people go buy a jacket and tie and come back, only for the door guy to say if you order the steak, you get a jacket and tie for free.

Quickest exp farm?

Shivan.9438

The neutral mobs (yellow) give loads of exp sometimes because people don’t see them as a threat, so they can give tons of exp. If you think I’m kidding, just stroll out to the sides of roads where people pass Moas, gazelles, rams and other critters and kill them. 85 exp with 400 bonus exp. The closer you get to 60 it can get up into the 1000’s in bonus exp. Use the boosters from the dragon festival (they stack up to 2 hours.) along with buff food and a utility. That’s 30% more. Then use Laurel booster for an hour, you can get up to 80% bonus exp very easily.

- Anet doesn’t give a rat’s *@% about role players.

- A troll’s money is just as good as an Rpe’rs money, so trolls are overlooked.

- The megaserver was promised to have “metrics” that would put people who grouped together on a constant basis on the same map. – Nope.jpg. – Role players still have to taxi each other to the Rp shard. Guild members are even split up on maps and that’s just for PvE content.

- Rp’ers have one zone that’s sectioned off for RP and that’ the beach at Southsun. It strips all of your clothes and armor off, leaving you vulnerable to trolls who can kite the elite just around the corner and kill everyone there.

- Anet “fixes” problems by calling it a line of sight bug instead of actually phasing and coding correctly, thus removing any sort of player housing from Rp’ers, and have yet to still implement player housing after 2 years while most MMO’s come with it standard.

- Two years later, guild halls are announced in an expansion that could be used for RP, when GW1 came with them standard.

And the sad thing is that we; Rp’ers have been here for a long time and yet we’re still crapped on in our own genre. MMORolePlayingGame.

- I dislike Ascalonians who they think they’re victims of a big bad race of evil cat monsters that robbed them of their homeland. FACT – Charr were there first and the humans were the ones that screwed THEM when the gods brought them to Tyria. The land never belonged to the humans in the first place. Get over it. The Charr took THEIR land back, and good on them.

- I equally dislike Charr who plonk down their soapboxes and cry about humans who took their land from them. FACT – Not a single living Charr in game was around when it happened. It didn’t happen to THEM. They have no excuse what-so-ever to say they felt or feel the heavy hand of evil human oppressors. Get over it.

- I secretly wish Queen Jennah would die. She’s a puppet queen and an idiot to boot.
“No Logan, you can’t stay here and kiss my feet.”
“B.. bu… but…”
“Go save the world Logan.”
“But I lo…”
“Go save the world Logan, that’s your job. Stop being whipped over something you haven’t had yet.”

Which brings me to.

-Logan should have died in Arah. He’s about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

“Logan is such a brave soul for staying behind and cutting a rope, let us all elate and venerate him as an angel. He has redeemed himself.”

Really? Blowing the first big mission is suddenly wiped clean by doing the job of a red shirt or other expendable anonymous henchmen?

If end game is defined as having the best gear, weapons, seen everything, completed all of the content, then not many people have reached end game, simply because the highest level fractals aren’t completed by the majority of the player base. However if you define end game as the majority of the player base has the game on farm, then GW2 has been at end game status for a long time. Without high level fractals where you need the ascended gear and weapons, you can simply complete everything in exotics, which are at the TP.

Log in, play to 80, save your gold and karma, get temple and exotic gear, rune/sigil it up farm Orr and SW and you’ve hit end game.

Remember this vanity pet/mini in WoW? That you could hear all of the way across a city?

Or maybe this exotic hunter pet, the Core Hound that shook the ground wherever you were, even in a capital city. After a month or so, Blizz finally caught the idea that these were annoying features and disabled them completely. Apparently, if Anet thinks it’s cool, it stays in the game.
