Well I’m sure the developers can’t just take every report of verbal abuse at face vaue. They probably need to investigate, see if the person has a history of reports, etc.

I imagine their punishment, if any, depends on stuff like that plus many other factors.

What game are you playing? Defense gives tonnes of loot bags. Get on those superior arrow carts and ballistas.

Oh I agree whole heatedly! But I find myself alone on defense quite often and the cannon/arrow carts I try to mam are quickly destroyed.

But yes with a few comrades using siege you can definitely rack up on the loot bags. I find defense way more fun than the spammy blitz offenses.

Simple way round this is to use Squad Chat.
That’s the real reason for Commanders Icon and not as a lot of people seem to think that it is the lord and master of the map.
remember ArenaNet stated that WvWvW was capable of holding up to 2000 players thats 500 per map at 166 per side aprox.
If used correctly each squad could be placed in allotted areas rather than mindless zergs.
But I quite agree with you Muting on WvWvW is not needed as there have been times when I myself have needed to call for backup yet couldn’t do so because of the mute, result I get trolled for the loss of the area.

Pre launch this is how I imagined wvw would be (the way you’re describing it) – i figured certain guilds/commanders would be designated/volunteer to hold certain territories on a map. That’s what I thought he whole point of guild claiming was for, and /squad chat, and commander icons in the first place.

Seems like anet set up the bones for things to be a lot more organized, rich, and strategic than it actuslly is at times.

To me it’d be more fun that way – to divide up into squads per map and have keeps/towers assigned to the leadership of certain commanders or guilds. Now that I think about it, perhaps that’s why they’re making changes to promote smaller skirmishes in wvw (e.g., correcting aoe heals to the 5-player cap) than huge armies.

Not saying I support what I’m about to suggest, but buffing rewards for defense isn’t necessarily the best/only option.

Reducing offense rewards to be more in-line with defense is another alternative. It would probably just be a very unpopular one :p I will say though that buffing something (offense rewards) and dealing with this by counter-buffing the opposite (defense) can get sticky in future updates.

I have no preference if it’s altering rewards or mechanics or map geography or player mindsets, I’d just like to see more engaging/tactical defensive keep battles if anet can help improve this somehow, I’ll be an even happier camper.

I will continue defending keeps (I enjoy that the most in wvw) regardless of the reward imbalance between offense defense… But it does seem kinda odd how much bonus incentive is given to blitzkrieg offenses.

Personally I play for fun so it doesn’t bother me directly… But I usually log for the night if the wvw matches become uncontested carousels of undefended keeps

In theory, this game basically aims to make it so that every character you make, no matter the class, will be self sustaining in pve in pvp.

In other words, everyone theoretically has the capability to conquer others and be conquered.

You can make choices that make you slightly more tankish, dps’ish, or support-like. However, it’s not intended that you’ll ever be capable of filling a defined niche role such as tank or healer.

Now, that being said, people are going to respond with wildly different opinions here on your thread. As an elementalist geared more for healing and support, I find the game’s
Philosophy to be mostly true – I can help others out with heals and buffs but I cannot directly intervene and save people time after time. I can also take care of myself and survive quite well, but I rarely kill others in pvp 1v1 (which I’m fine with since I gear a lot for healing).

I imagine some other posters reading this may be licking their chops waiting to say how wrong I am and give xyz examples of how certain classes are better than others.

This long response all leads to this small but important conclusion: I am max level and geared and still not 100% set on a build/stat priority.. Sometimes I even think of switching mains to guardian just to try something new.

My point is, with this game, I really reccomend just going with what profession feels most like “you” based on the description. You’ll have the most fun and you wont be as likely to get caught up in regrets of character creation and the carousel of re-rollers trying to be the “best.”

I agree that anet hasn’t been flawless in making every single class equally capable in all situations, but my personal opinion is that it’s close enough to make choosing my class based more on what roles you seem to mesh well with (a beefy warrior charging into enemies, a sneaky thief getting in and out of a situation with quick precision, etc.)

It’s account bound.

You can get 10 if you have all 5 standard character slots explore the whole world.

You can get more if you purchase additional character slots and explore again.

You can get more still if you delete characters who have already explored the world and start over again to explore the world :p

I invited three friends from Swtor (they are all trying it out).

Gw2 is a different game than many of the games mentioned here, it won’t be everyone’s taste. That’s understandable.

I will say I’ve noticed the lowbie starting areas a lot more crowded the past 12 hours

In an ideal world I think it would have been cooler if the need for Obsidian Shards served as enough motivation for players to come together and strategize how to most effectively capture the temple.

However, with some people asserting that bugs were involved that made it more difficult for some servers to finish the event and purchase shards (I can’t verify this either way personally, just repeating what I heard), I think this will be a good thing in many players’ eyes. If there were indeed bugs then I sympathize with those who couldn’t get their shards.

The majority of heals in game have a player cap of 5. Some healing abilities that were (according to Anet) incorrectly healing infinite numbers of people were fixed in yesterday’s patch (e.g., see Elementalist patch notes).

I’m not sure if any non-cap heals remain, but there may be some.

The reason people ball up on guardians in wvw is because their shields of absorption and walls of reflection prevent many forms of damage (mostly projectiles) from hitting anyone under the protection of that ability. Elementalists’ ability Swirling Winds provide a similar benefit. These types of abilities are not aoe damage, nor heals, nor buffs; this is how they can protect more than 5 people. They are merely temporary environmental obstacles.

While I’m confident about the healing cap, I am less sure about siege – do arrow carts cap at 5 players? I was under the impression siege was left cap-free in order to promote it as the clear choice to handle zergs in wvw (I.e., making siege a neccessity to defend a keep against large parties). I could be wrong about this of course.

Hi,

I was informed that one of the patch goals was to fix the “unintended drop rate of unidentified dyes.”

I have no issue with that alleged change. The issue I’m having (possibly a bug?) is I had approximately 173 of these dyes prior to the patch, I now I have 1. I have been saving these for weeks for “Gift of Color” for my legendary. The 1 dye is in the same bank slot the large quantity was in.

Is this intended? I can’t find the recent patch notes nor a thread discussing this anywhere else. if so please feel free to merge the thread and I apologize in advance.

Any news on this Anet ?
I was tempted today to buy a Naga or a Logitech G600 to replace my (not failing) G700, and I being afraid of the problem occuring even with a new mouse, I bought nothing.
Tonight, I tried to do some wvw, but camera failing everytime is extemely frustrating.
It is really getting worse with each patch, and even pve becomes unplayable.

Why on earth cannot we play this MMO with MMO mouses ? What is the problem Anet ?
Maybe we should consider posting this in Logitech and Razer support forums, to spread the word, and eventually have an answer ?

I have a naga and still suffer from the same issues, so while I hope getting one fixes your issues, it didn’t for me

It could be my imagination but it seems like our matchup is closer and queues are full for more periods of the day.

Regarding what liquid said: I think one way to do that would be to provide bonuses that aren’t directly associated with an edge in battle but give some other bonus to your server (e.g., players on your server have more magic find or more success from crafting nodes or something, I don’t know).

Oh my god…

someone earlier in this thread (a month ago) put into words exacdtly how I would describe the situation:

“Same problem here, its very weird and makes it very hard to kite the baddies I want to kill.

From my experience it happens worse the more furious the combat and less when i am running around exploring the nooks and crannies.”

What this guy said is exactly how I feel. The movement I get into intense movement (usually combat), the right/left clicking problems start up.

It is really impacting PvP and dungeons for me. It is incredibly frustrating to lose my target simpl because I use my mouse buttons to move my camera and such. I do hope an option comes up in teh future to change this

I’ve used the same mouse (naga razer) for movement in otehr mmos and never had the problem. I will do anything to not have these issues – even if it means accepting its some fault of mine for some reason. Im guessing it has to do with how I am virtually always holding down my right click button.

It just really hurts the gameplay for me.

Superior Rune of Sanctuary - 2 piece bonus

Hi!

The 2 piece bonus for Minor and Major Runes of Sanctuary give % to boon duration, whereas the 2 piece bonus for Superior Rune of Sanctuary gives % to frozen duration.

I figured this wasn’t intended though it’s possible that it is. I’d love to wear the Superior version if it is changed to give boon duration.

Hi all,

I tried to write a post with specific questions, but I just can’t do it. I’m getting really frustrated with the targeting in GW2, particularly when I’m kiting, strafing, etc.

I lose my target a lot. I switch targets sometimes, but not before “calling a target” so that I can reverse back to the original when I need to. Then when I hit “take target”, my target will switch to my original target (my desired outcome) but I will still be attacking things I don’t have targeted (not my desired outcome). Why would I be attacking something that isn’t my target? The mob in question isn’t standing between me and my desired target or anything.

Anyway, does anyone know a good guide that gives tips and explanations of GW2’s targeting “features” in the menu? For example, what does “promote skill target” actually do?

Tried google search with no luck. Search on here doesn’t seem to be working for me.

P.s. Really do love the game so far… the targeting for my style personally has been a nightmare though.

Sometimes you can prevent them from getting credit altogether by engaging mobs in the events early/away from the botters and not letting them get close to the botters. Normally they will finish the event but at least they aren’t getting every drip of free xp.

Please note in this scenario I use discretion in making sure it is a stationary botter and not an active player at the computer. I would never intentionally do this to someone who is trying to play the game and take special care to make sure it isn’t someone who is just learning the game.

I can’t give you an exact answer, but I can give some insight. I tested sigils for literally hours one night on training dummies and learned a few things.

Please keep in mind that this is all my own ongoing testing that I started weeks ago. Unfortunately, things may have changed in patches. On top of that, I am an Elementalist, and our attunements are supposedly similar to weapon swapping in terms of sigils, but some differences could exist between Ele and “true” weapon swapping.


Certain weapon combinations allow two sigils to coexist on separate cooldowns whereas other combinations don’t. For example, on my Elementalist I noticed that “complementary” weapon combos (e.g., Scepter/focus) seemed to allow coexisting sigils (i.e., different cooldowns) moreso than noncomplementary weapon combos (i.e. Scepter/Dagger). This was not always consistent but once I figured this out I was able to get more stable results.

If you test this and it doesn’t work, it may be that, in fact, “proc” sigils simply all share a cooldown. I know that in my testing I also had an easier time getting different “types” of sigils to work together. For example, when I paired a “% chance to proc on crit” with another “% chance to proc on crit”, I had inconsistent results. Sometimes they worked together sometimes only one would work. However, pairing a “% chance to proc on crit” with a “gain (or cause) ____ after swapping to this weapon in combat” seemed to work more consistently.

Third, sometimes sigil effects and profession traits can prevent each other from working properly, at least they have for me it seems. For example, if I take “endurance granting” traits as well as endurance granting sigils, I got inconsistent results regarding which one would actually work (i.e., sometimes my traits would proc endurance, sometimes the sigils would. Sometimes neither would).

Lastly, as an oddball example, I tested sigil of energy (restores 50% endurance on weapon swap) with a life-stealing sigil (I think 30% chance to steal life on crit) and found that sometimes the sigil in my offhand would not proc, if I was missing endurance. If I was at full endurance, the health leeching would proc like candy. So it seemed that the main hand weapon was taking precedence in procs/function and then when the coding determined my main hand proc wasn’t “needed”, it switched to my offhand proc. (I’m aware that leeching only works when you’re missing HP, and I took this into consideration during my testing).

I know this wasn’t the sure-fire answer you were looking for but after all the hours of testing I did, I learned that the best thing to do is TEST YOUR SIGIL COMBINATIONS FOR FREE IN THE HEART OF MISTS ON THE TRAINING DUMMIES. This will save you money in the “real” game.

Whether there’s some weapon/weapon formula, a “type” of proc formula, or simply bugs, you cannot really assume anything when it comes to the sigils. At least not by any systematic method I’ve come up with so far. I imagine this will get ironed out eventually but for now I have found it to be a puzzle. If you find a good sigil combination, test it and stick with it IMO.

I agree that gaining orbs fast gives one team an advantage.

There is a counter, though. The teams without the orbs focus only on hitting the team with orbs. This has been going on in my server’s matchups and it seems to work very well to stop one team from hoarding the orbs. This alliance will offset and overcome the orb advantage until the playing field is level again.

I’m usually not unconstructive with my forum responses but I figured this was a good thread for me to state how disappointing I find our elite skills to be.

I wish the defensive golem had a separate bar where we could control when things like the projectile shield deployed. When I use the skill he just does it randomly.

Please stop Superman from coming to WvW.

I’m totally not saying these claims are false at all – but man that really sucks that y’all are experiencing these. I haven’t seen a single hack yet. If I had seen these things I’d be mad too.

Hope it gets resolved for y’all of they identify a specific problem.

What spoils come from 1v2ing, btw? I’d think two teams teaming up on one could help offset some of the problems the people being beaten are having. I may not be aware of something though.

If you check the forums you can see losing servers trying to set up alliances against more dominant servers. It’s just another aspect of strategizing. Just like many other components of pvp.

You don’t have to use that strategy obviously, just trying to offer a solution to overcoming the dominant server. Let me know if you think of any other ways to overcome their advantage

In the ET/IoJ/SoS matchup, the entire ET server logged on straight after the reset and hit the orb camps and keeps and have held those ever since. It happened within 5mins of the reset while most people on the other servers were sitting around.

Are you implying that this fast capturing makes it unfair? Or are you saying it makes that server smarter? Just wondering what you’re trying to imply.

I usually see outmanned when I go to a map my server owns the vast majority of. The people on my team don’t wanna stay on a “boring map” so they transfer to the action.

Fine by me, I bring my alt and walk safely around the zones to harvest materials and get my map discovered. I always thought it was meant to help lure both the losing or the winning team back to that map (depending who has it). I thought that’s why they gave magic find, to bring people back to defend maps they already own rather than conquering one and moving to another.

I may be proving your point, I kinda got lost in that train of thought :p

If they have people devoting resources to camping the puzzle, that’s more people their team doesn’t have on the surface map. So it should help your team gain ground.

I know it doesn’t make it less aggravating – but in the grest scheme of pvp strategy, their camping of the puzzle does come at a cost (even if small) to their team.

I was part of the group that the OP is referring to, and I can tell you our numbers were far less than theirs.

Right, so that is on them. That means you guys were strategizing and distracting large group of their players when they could have realized that it was draining their own teams’ strength on the surface.

My point is that it is a strategic point that affects the wvw on the surface too, whether you’re camping or being camped on the puzzle.

Anyone else dislike the AoE trick to keep players from rendering?

Out of curiosity, when the two servers are being dominated by 1 server with all the orbs, do those two underdogs team up? That should offset the benefit of the orbs… And that’s the whole reason we have 1v1v1 instead of 1v1 maps… To counterbalance that kinda stuff.
