Would you pay to change Race?

Yes I’d pay in a heartbeat.

I’d also pay to rename.

I imagine they are saving these features for future pacthes to entice former players to return. That’d be a smart move marketing-wise.

Of course I’d prefer it be an option now, though :p

Guild wars 2 ruined all other mmo's

I can relate in a way, OP.

My reason is because most other mmos combat is too bland for me after playing gw2.

I always play caster types and I can never again stand still while casting most of my spells in an mmo again. Gw2 has forever altered that expectation from me when it comes to caster mobility.

Loot Solo vs Group

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shlamorel.8714

Shlamorel.8714

Sorry I can’t point you to any official responses on this: some may exist but if they do I am not sure where they are.

But since launch I have found drastically more loot in a full party than flying solo without one. If it is in fact more lucrative to be in a party, it’s probably got something to do with everyone in the party getting “credit” from enemies who your teammate attacks, meaning you don’t have to do as much damage to people to get in on some of this credit.

Even if this is false, one has nothing to lose by being grouped up so I always form my own parties when fighting in zergs (both in wvw and pve). Just invite random people around you til the group fills.

If you find people are hostile to this, you can make a macro and copy and paste it in whispers to people before you invite. Mine says something like “inviting random folks to fill up party – feel free to ignore the invite if you wish”. People decline sometimes but are less offended since I ask before hand.

These are just my suggestions – there may be easier ways I run with guides mostly so we group obviously, but for when I’m solo I still find people to join group.

If nothing else I find it more fun to socialize in a smaller party than cluttering map chat (especially wvw), so it’s really win-win-win in my eyes if the question is whether or not to group with others in a zerg.

To each his own though. I’ve got no proof myself so I have no right to tell other people I’m right. If they disagree. I just kindly move on to the next person to invite.

Edit: I know you didn’t ask for tips or advice, just offering to anyone reading who may be interested in the ideas. Hope I didn’t hijack the question

Very interesting to stumble on this topic.

Unfortunately I don’t know where to get it, but it does seem like it exists based on the code working…

Does anyone get 10 legitimate rezzes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shlamorel.8714

Shlamorel.8714

The only way I see this happening legitimately is in wvw.

I see maybe 2 dead players in pve exploration and one will waypoint away before I can get to them.

Rezzing an NPC feels like cheating. People are jumping off cliffs for each other at 3:30 server time to get this done.

I think 10 is far more than most players could accomplish through natural playing.

In dungeons and fractals of the mists it is quite easy to get rezzes. Even if your team performs flawlessly there are often npcs you can Rez.

Usually I just get it on downed teammates though.

I can honestly say I’ve never gone around looking for things to rez to get my daily some. It just happens naturally in dungeons/fotm/wvw.

I think some people may “wait” for people to die so they can get rezzes, you’re right. But in high level fotm responding promptly to downed teammates has always been a priority, so it’s business as usual there.

I Imagined elites being a once-in-a-while ability to turn the tide of a fight.

As an ele this doesn’t feel like the case at all. I mean I suppose my elites are useful in certain cases, but I was hoping for more of an “epic” feel when using them.

Heck, I’d even take a longer cooldown if my elite were truly a turn-the-tide ability.

Hey guys,

Just a suggestion, try to say what kind of run you’re interested in when you advertise (whether in-game or on a site like gw2lfg.com).

The default behavior for groups in my experience is to skip as much trash as possible. However, I’ve found that if you speak up beforehand, many people are willing to do trash/explore the areas you want.

I try to make a point before we start, before bosses, and before major pulls to ask what method people prefer, and try to do the group majority.

Just try to be assertive and you should be able to get a group with a similar mindset.

Has the maintenance been extended? No biggie if so, just wondering if I am doing something wrong.

Personally I think anything that requires much work and effort should encourage calculated decision making with this kind of stuff.

I have no problem if they decide to refund your mats since you don’t want the weapon anymore – I just think it takes away from the mgnitude of our decisios as fictional characters in a fictional world.

I like the idea that creating someing can’t be simply undone due to convenience or preference.

But don’t get me wrong, if they change it so you can get your mats back I’ll be happy for you. I just don’t really like the idea of my decisions being something I should strongly consider.

Just another way to think about this: let’s say your class is altered in a partciuar patch and you no longer desire the exotic gear you saved forthe cause it isn’t as optimal anymore. Should anet refund the gold (if you bought) or mats (if you crafted) for all that gear you worked for?

I’m not saying they should or shouldn’t comply with the scenario I listed, just giving something to think about.

The stat limitations may be a way to limit people from obtaining numbers the devs would prefer not to see.

Other games have forms of diminishing returns that gw2 doesn’t. (sure gw2 has a type of DR on stats’ productivity, but it’s different than some other games).

I think rather than rebalance the stats they are curbing some of the gear choices instead.

I’m not saying its necessarily the right way to go about it… But it may solve the same issue (overpowered stat combos) without retroactively needing to nerf the stats on all the gear people have been saving up for and buying to date.

I don’t think it makes sense for the issue of the unicorns to be about a personal taste or opinion.

To me the only objective question that matters is: do people generally feel that all legendaries have been equally attended to in terms of making their appearance legendary? That’s what I’m curious to know.

Of course we will all have different tastes on items. Doesn’t matter what we do and don’t like. I’m just surprised how drastic the epicness of the graphics are from some legendaries compared to others.

Maybe I am the minority in feeling this way though. That’s why I’m curious to know what others think.

I appreciate all of the changes that reduced or removed the ability to fight encounters in ways that were not intended (bugging/exploits).

I’m still confused with the chest system myself… The ones that drop from mobs. I still get greys out of them sometimes in fotm 50a. Is that normal?

Lastly, completely agree with OP about class bugs. This should be one of ThE highest priorities in my personal opinion, especially before they make any nerfs or buffs whatsoever to any class.

It doesn’t make sense to nerf and buff until all skills are working properly and according to their tooltips… Otherwise if they fix the bugs in the future after buffs/nerfs, it will require a whole mother round of buffing and nerfing.

FotM Hard Capped at 50+ (for now)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Shlamorel.8714

Shlamorel.8714

I don’t mind the idea of a cap In itself- my only problem is that it was advertised as a dungeon that gets infnitely harder.

In other words, it’d make sense if there was a soft cap due to the sheer impossibility of killing all the mobs or being overwhelmed by adds… But a hard cap due to agony resist isn’t what I was expecting with fotm.

In other words, the progression past 50 will now be staggered based on the max amount of agony resist obtainable. There’s nothin wrong with this in itself – it’s only frustrating because that doesn’t live up to how fotm was advertised before it was launched.

Edit: I guess I should rephrase: progression past the hard cap isn’t impossible (you can still progress by doing odd number fractals). But the max level daily reward chest is hard capped except for one method that I know of: 99% rez method

Does 99% still work under normal circumstances?

I tried it in a level 54 last night but I was the dead person and someone razzed me early before agony landed on them. Thus, we were unable to see if it works. I’ve not tried it in any other level either so I can’t say whether or not it works. I just included that in my post in case it does still work.

We tried revive orbs and they no longer work for sure. I think this was a good change.

Hope this helps.

I imagine they don’t list every single bug fix because it can give people who were unaware of the bug new ideas/suggestions which could promote new bug and exploits to be discovered. That’s just a guess.

I also agree with the other poster- spy kits are obtained in pve. I don’t see a problem withm being used in pve. I could see the argument if they were usable in wvw. I imagine they are a way to keep small gold sinks going as well as promoting people to revisit old zones to obtain the items. Again, just my guess,

I approve of the exploit fixes though… Some of them can really water down the integrity of dungeons/high level fotm. The challenge is the fun part to me.

Just sayin’.

I think your point is valid.

From a purely business perspective, I don’t see why a game company wouldn’t want to tackle this issue. I mean, if for no other reason, certainly they want newer players to the game to get hooked from the grest epic events that those of us did who have been here since launch.

I’d think keeping new customers entertained would be a big priority. I know there is no subscription, but the longer people are on game the more likely, I’m sure, they are to send money on the cash shop.

Anywho, having a thriving underflow server seems like it’d go a long way in doing just that.

What do you guys think Ele will be like?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Shlamorel.8714

Shlamorel.8714

The question that I am asking is, what do the ele players think might be changed about the class. I know nothing has been said. I’m assuming Meteor Storm will be changed, but I don’t really know anything more about the class than that. Does it have other strong aoes?

to be honest, I think it’s pretty laughable that people are saying Ele is weak. Kunst’s EU fractal group, lv 75ish, is 1 guardian and 4 eles. Maybe he’s just gimping himself for the challenge (sarcasm, couldn’t resist). I’ve fought many eles in wvw and they are incredibly powerful; they may or may not burst kill you, but you definitely won’t kill them considering the defense/boons/condition removal/movement skills. Ele’s are also one of the “required” classes in spvp. So let’s just drop that nonsense now.

The only additional level of complication I see in Ele is that you have 4 weapon swaps instead of 2, which is actually an advantage. I understand that, as with every other profession I have ever played, one must choose between traits and gear.

PS To anyone who thinks ele is weaker than necro, I don’t even know what to say.

Well I answered your question not sure if you’re asking for more responses or if you were saying nobody had answered you yet.

I personally think they are less likely to touch pure aoe abilities (meteor shower/lava font) and more likely to change abilities that deal aoe and direct damage (many dagger abilities, fireball, etc.)

Time will tell.

Arcane shield is very useful for preventing almost all agony attacks other than jade maw. Not sure if that was posted yet but thought I’d toss it up for anyone who wasn’t aware.

Also, mist forming and using ability 5 on the focus weapon while tuned to earth are great for preventing agony on yourself or avoiding the damage once it’s on you. (again this works for most bosses except maw). Ability 4 on focus while in earth can reflect some boss agony mechanics as well.

Not to mention dodging works well for most of the agony mechanics

Other things like swirling winds are useful for a smaller sample of boss agony… The bonus of swirling winds is it will protect your group as well.

I’ve made it to fotm 54 as an ele and interestingly the focus becomes much more supportive and survival-y than the staff (for me anyway). The staff is still useful on many encounters, but I find myself going scepter/focus more and more for the harder encounters with only a few exceptions.

I can honestly say that as a staff and (especially in later fotm) scepter/focus ele, I’ve pugged my way to fotm 54 with just a moderate amount of difficulty. And by pug I mean I’m usually grouped with people I’ve never met – not a static group.

Eles have a place, I promise you. It can be hard to find your niche… And I think we benefit the most from having different sets of gear to fill your groups’ weaknesses.

If you’re having a hard time, try finding a group of people to run with together, that way you’ll learn what they need and you can fill that role.

In general I tend to either be an aoe glass cannon, a tanky/self healing scepter/focus meat shield, or a staff/range heal/supporter. I just swap gear sets depending on what the group composition is. My reccomendation is , if you can, build a few gear sets/trait builds and learn how to handle each one equally well. That way you can adapt to the groups’ needs.

(there are other roles eles can play too, those are just the ones I seem to fall into the mot).

“Swirling Winds” intercepts and blocks catapult and trebuchet shots. Havent tested cannons. As guardians can no longer do this with their projectile blockers I think this is a bug/oversight that eles can.

Have you tried using guardian absorbs instead of the wall of reflection?

There are many scenarios where wall works and winds doesn’t, or vice versa. Apparently the language of the tooltip matters (I.e. swirling winds “destroys” whereas wall “reflects”)

I’m not saying it isn’t a bug, just saying maybe that’s how anet justifies it shrug

I honestly think more will be done to things like dd cones/auto attack (twhich simultaneously do aoe) moreso than ranged aoe attacks.

I could be wrong of course.

I’d be willing to trade some of my staff aoe for increased direct damage options (e.g., id give up the aoe dmg from fireball if the direct damage was increased, so long as lava font and the 3 ability were left for aoe…. And meteor shower. Just an example.)

Our greatest strength can be our greatest pitfall. We have huge potential with staff (and to a lesser extent other weapons) if others utilize our combo fields. If they don’t utilize our fields, some of our potential is gone.

The question is should we be balanced around a mechanic such as combo fields that others may or may not utilize? Do devs currently balance us assuming people will utilize our fields or no? I sincerely don’t know. Would be curious to find out though.

I don’t mind it personally because I like being a class that can enhance his allies if the allies are aware of how to utilize my skills… But I can see the argument on the other side too.

Professions start with differing amounts of base health. Regardless of armor type (which can further widen or shorten this gap in health difference), is there a philosophical balance that gw2 has officially stated that is the reason for such health differences?

I guess what I’m getting at is I am confused why all professions start with the same amount of power, precision, etc, but that base health differs? Again I’m asking from a technical standpoint…. Not trying to get into whether it’s right or wrong. Like have they ever given an official statement on how it plays into their idea of class balance?

I wish they could introduce something like competitive fractals or cooperative fractals.

1. Competitive: two groups of five queue up and get the same order of fractal maps; all loot is dropped like normal but the team that finishes first gets some special prizes (I don’t know what the prizes should be).

Could even have a leaderboard based on points earned (perhaps points are earned by a combination of number of mobs killed plus total time taken to clear maps [the faster the more points])

It’s a rough idea but seems like itd be fun in concept

2. Cooperative fractals: perhaps 10 player fractal runs…. Could be the same maps made harder or new maps altogether made specially for more people.

Just some ideas.

I don’t really care if they add more gear… I just want more competitiveness. I think having leaderboards and/or competitive pve content could be a start.

I truly empathize.

I hope agony resistance can be carried over to pets eventually.

As for the skins, I will respectfully disagree with you. As a purely cosmetic item that offers no stat advantage, Im fine with not being able to sell or trade them. I just save them in case I ever make an alt that can use them.

I think it’s cool that there are some skins that are not as common in the game, and since it’s cosmetic only, I’m ok with the RNG. But as I said, I understand your view so my disagreement is not meant harshly

I personally find the harpy level to be very fun and hope they include mechanics like this in the future (I.e., mechanics that individuals can either survive using their own abilities or by relying on the utility of a groupmate).

I agree with points on both sides here.

After playing around with some alts lately I’ve realized that many classes have a lot of self-serving utility that I never see them utilize in hard situations.

This doesn’t solve the main issue at hand… But I guess my point is that folks who rely on guardian anti projectiles sometimes forget they can use their own abilities to block/nullify projectiles.

Don’t mistake me though, I do see the gap between guardian and other classes’ utility. It’d be nice to see the gap reduced somehow… Hopefully not through needing a class but rather by buffing other classes’ utility. I’m open to either option though.

I admit I have seen an increasing trend as the OP suggests.

I can also state that I have pugged fotm all the way to where I am now (level 54) and have honestly never looked at/selected people based on profession when forming my pug groups.

In fact, I did a level 46 fotm (daily) two days ago with 4 other elementalists (making 5 elementalist total including myaelf).

I admit that certain profession combinations do make things easier though.

In sum, while I don’t think there are vast differences strong enough to bar any group compilation from progressing, I do think the public opinion is quickly trending in that direction… I just don’t know what we can do to stop it.
