My main is a mesmer, I have three level 80s. I paused playing a thief simply because of one thing. The challenge isn’t there. So far no one’s been able to finish my Gold bet I placed long ago when I said about comparing the class cannons.
True glass cannons are meant to give damage at the cost of not taking a few hits. Whoever keeps saying glass cannons die in 1-2 hits, just stop. Stop it right now, cause my mesmer has two builds and one of them is glass cannon and I can tell you right now, I’ve taken more hits then 2. Possibly ten to twelve since I keep my mantra heals on stand by and my decoy.
This is the win question(s) right here.
Which is the BEST glass cannon to that kills and WHY is it better then the other classes. THEN you have to answer why does that class managed to walk away better in 1v1s.
The only real reason people get hit on walls by iBerserkers is because they’re within the Mesmer’s line of sight when they decidedly back far away enough from it to formally do so, or attempt to do so anyway. It doesn’t exactly help the other party when they’re using a siege weapon mounted on the wall, while standing significantly close to the edge, and hence be within the Mesmer’s LoS; so really, shouldn’t it be the player’s own carelessness for standing in the Mesmer’s LoS in the first place to blame?
i dont think iberserk needs nerfs, but you obviously dont know how it works.
you can spawn it through anything regardless of los or not, as long as its within 1200 range. this isnt the same thing as ele or ranger aoe where you have to place it.
its not a matter of where you stand, as long as you’re within 1200 range, you can be hit by iberserker, no matter how many walls or obstacles are in the way.
Just want to add up on what you were also pointing out.
AS LONG as you still have that person(s) life bar you can continue to track their movement though the wall even if you can’t see them. AND Your illusion will still follow that person around and attack none stop. (I’ve seen people i’ve done this to try and run away from my illusion thinking he will come back to me.)

the largest crit i have ever had on this ability was 3k
you would think an ability THAT SLOW , would have a risk vs rewardthe problem is backstab can be done twice in a fight and hit upwards of 14k. AND THEN you can disappear after doing it.
i cant think of any game thats had stealth that let you normally remove yourself from combat with stealth and let you redo your backstab attacks.
can you imagine if you were allowed to do this nonsense in D&D?
And that’s what didn’t have me make a thief at first. I assumed there stealth only was active out of combat. Even then any other mmo I know you hit someone in stealth it knocks them out of it. OR they have reduced movement. (at lower levels..ect ect.)
I’m just tired of hearing the excuse “Don’t build glass cannon.”
I’m a mesmer my escapes are a few stealths (One actually has to be channeled) My issue that I get kitten off the most about any thief is the fact that I can see them coming before they hit stealth and I have to play (Press Dodge now and hope he was using his attacks already). 90% of all my defensive skills that protect me require me to actually lock on a target. He can be behind me, beside me, hell under ground, but one that step locks in I can’t target him anymore. Therefore, I can’t deploy my clones (Or illusions) to my aid. Literally, any other class out there today has yet to require me to put too much effort. Not saying I come out of every battle victorious, but I am saying when it comes to fighting a thief it’s basically a flee I have to do.
Correct me if I’m wrong but please i’m trying to understand this one part.
TO the thief users: True you make a glass cannon for high burst. THE ONLY difference between your stealth and any other stealth (such as my class mesmer) We can’t chain high burst damage. It would be a wett dream come true if I could make 3 clones spawn at once. The most I’ve done with just a single clone is 6k. If I could spawn 3 Cripple Greatsword illusions at the same time I wouldn’t even need my stealth.
I counter them with my mesmer using my cloak skills however without those I can’t even use my attack or defensive skills simply because I have to target someone in other to use them. So really, a thief really already gets a freebie hit on me if I’m not cloaked.
I don’t mind them having that burst damage, But like like every other game. I expect a damage cap at least.
Side note For the few that say, The lowest hp and def make up for the high burst. What’s the excuse for my class then. We can make clones none stop but that doesn’t stop a “Smart” player from sorting us out.

I saw this and I started to laugh so hard.
I actually thought of this during the dev slapping on possible exploits. While it’s true people can change over and yes “Spy”. However it would game no good just as having people I know in WvW who just use a certain Voice Chat to talk in game. You have to ask yourself this.
1) How many large groups actually listen well in the chat. Most of the time it’s people going “Don’t take supply from XXXX or This area is under attack.”
2) I can say I’m attacking one area but 9 out of 10 I’m in a party of less then 5 stealing supply station simply because I don’t want the enemy team to get that warning on the map.
Even if someone transfer over to spy, what do “They” gain from it? Unless the other group is contributing money or items I would see it a waste of time. Heaven forbid they get killed by mistake as well cause you can’t tell me that WHOLE server knows he/she is a spy.
MY PERSONAL view overall.
IF Your server NEEDS a spy to see what the other server is doing. Let me know I’ll be glad to see if one of my friends would want to transfer over playing a mesmer or thief who actually knows how to play a class with cloak and stealth. Maybe if they learn how to play sneaky and use different color dyes out in the field to be sneaky would help to.
You have to make sure to scream “Come heeeere!!!” or “Get over here!” when you cast it or it wont’ work.
The portal also has a range limit.
I’ve tried to place a portal and port to a waypoint then open the portal again and it wouldn’t allow me to. (Cause that would to hell amazing if it did XD.)
Mostly I just use it once we lose a tower and I just do my best to hide still inside the building until everyone is gone. Then make a portal jump off the side of the tower and open the portal for my team to break through with no problem.
The issue isn’t the spam, it’s the not being able to target someone who is in constant stealth spamming. As for people complaining about glass cannon builds, If you say just build toughness that’s pretty much saying Toughness beats everything. I don’t need toughness fighting a warrior (Simply cause they can’t get to me) And I don’t need it to fight a ranger. (Cause I use their attacks against them).
I’m using one of the newest gen computers and even in WvW I catch hell only and to only a thief simply cause I can’t target them most of the time.
I think Each profession should have it’s own personal emotes.
Example: I think the Mesmer’s should have emotes to where they can make clones in town that do there own personal dance or argue which one is the real one.
o.o…yay.
Promise you it doesn’t work ;/ I’ve fought people even inside the bubble itself and it reflects. But it doesn’t reflect a thief dagger storm for nothing.
That’s just it, My Feedback skill didn’t block the attack. ;/ Feedback is a Mesmer’s bread and butter when it comes to shutdown projectile attacks.

All I saw was someone spinning to win, after that I saw four people fall lol.
I assumed the spinning and launcher stuff at your character didn’t count as a feedback, because I popped it and still was being hit ;/.
Just going to explain what I do(Well I’ll leave out the traits and ect but this 9 out of 10 works for me. )
Going to tell you right now. Unless you one of the special few who know how to face roll a keyboard and actually like slapping illusions and clones, this set up isn’t for you.
For some reason when it comes to a Thief I actually am required put the “try” hard pants on to kill him. (Love the ones that like to poke at me)
Going to start with my two weapon(s) set up.
First being the great sword. (Dislike it but until they can fix the staff I can’t finish with just being pure condition.)
Second being the Sep and sword.
Now I’m sure someone is going, “Now why a minute sword off-hand? WHY!?”
Multiple reasons. You now have two blocks. One thing I have notice with the blocks is ….Try not to move TOOO much." There are times if you move too much the automatic retreat back won’t move. (Basically when you block it, it will move you either to the left or right and make a clone/illusion where you were to begin with."
Personally, I’m a cripple fighter. Kill either one of my illusions or clones by mistake you going to get dead legged.
After using to blocks, I usually switch to my GreatSword and push them (5)away again, followed up by a Illusion(4) and have him spin to win with some more cripples. Throwing the sword (2) It makes a clone. Continue using normal attack for a moment(1). If swapping weapons still on cd I throw another (4).
In the event the thief does get close to me, my emergency button is my [decoy]. Go invisible while it makes a clone where you were standing. Now unlike most people that want to stay away from their clones. Try to stand in them. (Unless you getting ganged bang by a group you leave your mini army to die)
8 out of 10 they going to be auto-clicking the clone and boom another cripple.
Really only hell I have when fighting a Thief is when they Flee. Don’t even bother chasing them. Really not worth it. If they chase me..I kill them, but when I chase them…I goes into their favor.
Yes you are correct I didn’t depend on pressing 1 and 2 all game. I actually require to use more then 2 skills to take on people. As I was saying MESMERS can’t use attack skills on a person they can not target. Example: Some of their attack skills are also the escape skills.
That leaves me with what? Aoes? Which for one don’t do much but add a few boons on a character.
Wait wait wait, If you play Thief then your input this skill being bad is invalid XD.
There hasn’t been an Elementalist EVER that’s managed to not get killed by their own attacks from me. Difference from a thief and Elementalist is I can target an Elementalist at anytime. I just throw a Feedback on them and watch them kill themselves with their own skills. Only time I see Elementalist even useful is spamming fire on a tower that’s about the cap to their usefulness around me.
And what if you have a full party of elementalists all throwing thier best AoE at a grouping of enemies? OMG ELEMENTALISTS ARE OP!
Last I check Elementalist had cooldowns.
^Wolfe I’m going to give you the same offer I tell everyone else. I want to see you dodge something in stealth near you. Unless you a physic I don’t see it happening. The duration of PW is longer then duration of dodge.
As for any other classes, I’ve walked away from 3v1 battles simply playing cripple clone warfare.
Most people have their issue set on one thief. You know 1v1 then it goes stealth..shank shank you dead.
We all know about PW’s Thief uses and how much it stings with the right build. Again I’m trying to tie something together cause…what if there is more then One thief?
Picture a full party of them, all using stealth and then next thing you know it’s time to play party spin. I can’t see any group surviving that. Even if you had a full party, I’m sure ALL of you are not going to stun each and every target.
You surely won’t turn around and run cause your back is turned..(Hint hint…from behind.)
Dare someone to say dodge, cause dodge only evades a single attack. >_> Anyone seeing what I’m getting at here. Can’t really find the right words on it….English isn’t the best when it comes to summing it up.
Trying to clear it up.
Where we see ONE thief as a problem… A party of them would be like throwing a baby into a pit of lions….It’s not going to end well.
or just stop depending on one skill. ;/ and actually try
skeptical of your 3 gold in 1 hour from wvw very skeptical.
^ I been in WvW 5 days before this game became open, not once have I’ve seen anyone or know anyone obtaining 3G in a hour. Hell, even for me I’ve manage to defend a single tower for hours with an arrow cart and ballista for 30mins racking up kills and even defending tower event. 3 Gold I find that hard to see. If that’s the case I would never do dungeon runs I would simply camp on an attacked tower all day..
/side note I’m sure EVERYONE would be camping a tower all day if they got 3 gold in one hour.
Make it clean and simple.
I say make the passive on this skill only work once every X amount of Seconds on the same target. If not the damage is only doing it’s fixed amount.
Stealth: TWO alternative suggestions
1) Takes longer for stealth to reactivate once in combat with another player
2) Stealth last half as long while activating it when taking damage.
Did I say anything about removing skills any way no. Personally I just turn a thief into a bird and just cripple them all day everyday with illusions and clones. PW I just bind them in place and throw a feed back bubble over them.
At this point I just want to go back on my thief and make a video of it. I want a list of everyone who says it’s easy to simply make a video of them fighting a thief and their class.
Avoid this kitten
ONLY way I can see people countering this proof here, is if they can show me another user able to pop that much damage within 3 hits or less. The biggest difference between someone else nearly able to do this damage and a Thief is you can target someone else unlike the thief. (When they stealth.)
^Issue with that is you know when they go stealth, you not just going to turn around and “HA” Cause then all they would just have to do is wait for you to turn around. There is zero counter to it. If I’m hitting you, (Like most MMOS) Usually they shouldn’t be able to return to stealth.
I’ll give a thief that burst damage, they can keep that high damage. They can keep that steal ability and everything else. However, if you want to really make it fair, make to where if I hit one of you while you stealth it de-stealth.
I"m just saying, I can’t target them once they are in stealth. Noting saying I can’t flee but I mean here are the issues of just turning away.
1) Extra damage when my back is turned..
2) As said while back, most of my escape skills require me to have a target for them to activate.
3) Now if they were invulnerable I could see it working, because I still have a target. But you can’t sit there and tell me. "I"m going to stealth in a middle of a fight" .. “Well hell he already knows I’m near him, but funny part I could be anywhere now..He won’t be able to dodge regardless unless it’s random.”
Edit Just make it where they can’t stealth a certain distance or duration is lower when they being damaged.
Well I’m going to say this and I want to see if anyone can top what I’m going to say because I think I’m going to just end it.
As a Mesmer my clones and illusions will only and I repeat ONLY appear if I have a target selected. In fact about 80% of all Mesmer skills (Throw out the AOES they dun count in it.) require me to have a target. UNLIKE classes that can throw a miss chance up where they can dodge all attacks, Thief can’t target period. All I can do is stand there.
Even when I’m down I got finished by a thief that was still stealth. Normally I would just pop a illusion clone THEN disappear with my decoy downed. They won’t work unless I have someone targeted .
It’s not about there damage anymore. I can hit people with a couple 2-3k crits with my illusions but the difference is I can’t spam it and I’m still in the open for attack. And unlike them, unless I’m using clones, I’m always exposed.
I’ve went face to face with close range warriors that “COULD” do me in, but I can target them so I can escape a full combo being used on me simply cause my skills were able to active.
Just going to point the finger and assume most people who say learn to dodge a thief are the people who are actually the thief players themselves. I wouldn’t have an issue with a thief as long as he couldn’t attack me with 4 different attacks while under stealth.
^*ISSUE being, the thief is able to literally hit you with everything while stealth. My whole deal on it, you CAN NOT DODGE what you can’t see. Even if I were to make a random lucky dodge, oh wait I still have 3 more hits to avoid…and only 1 more dodge left…let me attempt another random dodge again.
Kinda long I’m just posting what I’ve noticed on my end if you collected any information to see any of my errors please input is welcomed.
First of all, Before anyone goes “Hey just butthurt or he just baddie, ect ect…” I’m just going to say I’m not a thief player. Nor do I pretend like I know everything about them. But I can say one thing as playing as a mesmer as long as I have. A thief is literally, and I mean literally the ONLY class I’ve seen that’s been able to actually been able to burst me.
Mind you not every thief I have encountered has got the best of me. But the only time I’ve died is in this order of skill.
Double Strike>Wild Strike> Heart Seeker> so forth.
So far the only actual wave I’ve managed to kill a thief is
A)Turn him into a nice pink Chocobo(I just like calling them that) and face roll my keyboard
B)Apply never ending dazes. <- It worked for a brief moment
C) Say hell with it and just use a ballistic from a tower.
I’m not saying they are OP, Hell as a mesmer I’m one of the most annoying things in wvw to encounter. However when I compare a thief to almost any other class, I see the only effort I see is on my 1, 2 button. As oppose to some other classes where I would see them throw everything they got at me their helmet if they could.
Reading and reading I see people say about glass cannon thief crit hurts, and they squishy as hell.
Well if I’m not mistaken, they wear M.Armor not light armor. Which isn’t much more but if we did the math on the side, I’m sure they would have more def then me.
Again I just don’t see the effort in using a thief.
I RESPECT the thief players out there, not going to hate on none of you,….but I can’t respect the class.
Usually you just press 1 or 2 all game and that’s pretty much thief in a nutshell.

-topic- Well all I can say to this before I log back online is. IF this wasn’t an exploit, why all of a sudden has this appear from no where. I’ve seen some high level theifs, and again, none of them have been able to literally eat all my hp. For lawls I even changed my traits to full reflection and distortion just for giggles and that didn’t even work.
I’m just saying I’ve been in WvW for a while, not once in my WHOLE time in wvw Have I’ve been melted like this before. I’ve fought lvl 80 people before with my 60 mesmer and still none of them have been able to melt me like this thief did.
Nbefore people see this and we get a wave of thiefs instead of rangers x-x

Yes I was with you when it happen >_> I’m a mesmer and just the two first attacks would be enough for me to pop my decoy but it was like less then a few seconds before I can use any skills. Hell First time I was thinking I was melted but the skills pretty much prevented me from even getting downed.(down status..)
