Oh snap. So I just bought a game and have no means to hang with my friends unless they transfer.
Didn’t used to be the case, but yep. That’s how it is now.
The best part is this system prevents you from ever meeting up with your friends even in PvE. Isn’t it just grand?
Obviously the only thing AreaNet took into consideration when developing the game was WvW, because that is the only reason such a stupid system as world servers exists.
If you weren’t lucky enough to have picked a server all the people you would want to play with were on at the game’s launch, you’re screwed. Because they’re all full now.
Because of the world servers system.
It splits up the player base in such a way you can’t even see or even talk to your other friends unless you lucked out and chose the right server when the game launched.
This game is its own worst enemy.
Yes but they’re meaningless now. Even at hours that should have less activity full servers are staying full.
Guys, one other important note.
If your server’s full then there’s no reason to even bother because I cannot get in. The populations are settling and I can’t even switch servers at odd hours like 3-4 AM because they’re still full.
That was a fun watch.
Surprising how no one even thought to start throwing out AoE attacks to try and stop him. Must have been too absorbed with capturing the base.
It’s entirely situational. When fighting ranged players you’re probably at a big disadvantage unless you close the gap fast.
My thief is ridiculously overpowered.
I can kill in basically 1 round of combat, any class.
I can stay in stealth, essentially forever.
I can out run, any class.
I can escape, any class.
People defending this profession as not OP are trolling.
I can regurgitate things other people already wrote, without anything to back them up.
And I’d look just as stupid as you do.
Some of these abilities have no warning and require you to quickly respond
Do I even need to point out what’s wrong with this sentence?
If a one-shot kill ability has no warning you CAN’T respond.
If you insist on criticism, at least make sure you are correct before you reveal to your audience that you, in fact, have no idea what you are talking about.
I said some abilities do not give you any warning but require you to quickly respond to a stimulus in order to not die or be “1-shot” by it. These might be in the form of debuffs that require you to act quickly to cleanse yourself (or others who have been inflicted) or a bomb on the floor, or something else along those lines. The boss does not warn you that he has placed a bomb under your feet, but if you do not move away from it, it will one shot you.
That is how some other MMO’s work, but that isn’t really the way it works in GW2. Some “1-shot” mechanics are much more subtle than that and some are much more obvious. When the Howling King is about to screech, you see it coming. When the Golem boss mentioned earlier turns around and swings, you may not see that coming, but that is only because you either don’t know the mechanic well enough to avoid it or you are simply not supposed to be in melee range at that time.
It is entirely possible to complete dungeons without getting 1-shot, I do it all the time. I see others doing it all the time. It really isn’t difficult once you learn how to handle an encounter.
What you’re saying is it’s all just a matter of dumb luck. Not skill.
If there’s nothing to suggest you shouldn’t be within melee range of an enemy at a certain time then the only solution is to NEVER be within melee range of them.
Do you not see the obvious problem with this?
It can be.
But it’s not an instant escape button like some people think it is. You can still damage a thief if they’re stealthed and projectiles that have already been fired at them before they stealthed will hit us.
If you’re playing WvW then you shouldn’t be traveling alone no matter what you are.
The two summons aren’t really that powerful – one will use scorpion wire once and attack with a dagger, and the other will just spam unload with pistols. We mostly just use them to break up groups and buy us some time to reorganize.
@Kaizer – u remind me of the liberal media. Taking things out of context to make it fit what you want it to. So… I’ll come back at ya. Using those words, thieves can no longer do damage (their damage should be below most other classes) when specced for stealth and surprise. Deal? Thought so.
@Shooopa – it may not be as easy as I think, but I see thieves do massive amounts of burst damage and still be able to easily get away, not just from me but from 3 or 4 others… all using closers and such. Now, with that being said, I think of all of the classes in the game, Thief should be the one that can stealth and get away. It makes sense. That’s not what is in question. What is in question is that they get their cake and get to eat it too in that they can do massive amounts of burst damage. I have had many discussions on these forums regarding thieves and in almost every discussion EVEN the thieves agree on this fact. If you want to hear my thoughts or theirs, click my name do a search on my recent posts and read them. I do not intend to fight the same fight over and over again.
@Mirtis – there are a ridiculous amount of condition removal in this game. You should do a search for them and enjoy the read.
To all, please do a little more research before posting. The same issue Americans have with politics, I’m afraid. (sigh)
No wonder. Obvious troll.
We’re done here folks. See you all tomorrow, same time!
I honestly feel like people who find GW2’s combat to be ‘boring’ aren’t using their abilities to their fullest.
My friends and I have had tremendous amounts of fun matching up different spells to create powerful combos. It’s amazing how well some professions complement each other and it makes me sad that it seems to be going unnoticed. I feel like a lot of people ignore things like combo fields, and sort of just spam the highest dmg spell they have.
I love doing that. Or at least I did when there were still other players around in my server.
Maybe they should just delete the entire Henge of Dervani server. It’s a wasteland.
I don’t think it’s boring (unless it’s a champion enemy you can’t melee without being a guardian), but it could be improved with the addition of more situational abilities.
Some of these abilities have no warning and require you to quickly respond

If a one-shot kill ability has no warning you CAN’T respond.
Lower the health of all dungeon mobs in the game by 50%, raise damage done by 10%.

What they need are more interesting enemies to fight and cut back their health.
Geheron being invincible until you get through his lava rocks and throw something at him is a good mechanic.
Dungeons in general seem like a cruel prank on thieves.
Not only are enemies capable of swatting us down with one hit (which is not telegraphed in any animation usually) but they’re almost completely immune to blind.
They probably did this to prevent people from charging exorbitant amounts for items on the trading post.
I’m not sure it’s working. I barely spend in-game money and have 14 G, but there are items on there selling for 80+G.
Their HP.
A thief has the second-lowest amount of HP in the game. If they fail to kill you or escape, they will die. Period.
Not period. You are quite mistaken. In my experience, they just run away and escape. So… all the massive quick strike ability with little risk.
Escaping is not as easy as you think. We have to either have traits which are specifically made for escaping combat or utilities which have cooldowns.
A glass cannon thief who can kill as fast as you say will not have nearly as many skills to escape a fight because they’ve picked traits only for damage. They may not even have shadow step equipped.
If you immobilized them or used any other CC attack on them you’d kill them in seconds because they’ve probably sacrificed all their escape routes for power.
That’s beside the point though Calavera. Enemies shouldn’t be respawning so fast anywhere in any game.
Otherwise it’s an endless grind of move forward 5 steps, stop and fight, move 3 steps, another fight, repeat and it’s what I call difficulty inflation.
It’s not a valid way to turn up difficulty, it’s just a nuisance.
Best is no question the cow finisher.
The respawn timers in certain areas are way off, yes.
The biggest offenders were the imps in Fireheart Rise. You could kill them and in less than a minute they’d all be replaced.
Report these things whenever you seem them in the Bugs forum. I think they actually fixed a few other instant respawns I reported.
I played in one of the betas.
I think I got $50 worth out of this game so far, but I’m having trouble finding other players. Is Henge of Dervani supposed to be so desolate?
@ Shoopa
Why, I’m on Sea of Sorrows. Only people that are on this server are in Lions Arch and in lv 1-15 maps. I want to be able to get parties together and do every map as a community. The same sentiment is heard from others in many 15, 25 and 40 maps. Once you reach lv 50 and higher maps, no one is around except for the usual lfg for the local dungeon spam. My own guild tells me to do it alone (and change my play style/build) as they believe its a solo game as well. If its that easy, why can’t I fac roll a Champion every time I see one?
You’re in a guild that tells you to do everything by yourself?
Doesn’t that defeat the entire fraggin’ purpose of a guild?
I am starting to think of this as a troll post… cmon man. You seem to be looking for too much for a casual player that plays other games with all these different guilds posting, PLUS you have another post before this one! Seriously….
Maybe stick with a guild more than a day before deciding it isn’t right for you and give it like a week before making a decision.
Well I’m sure not interested in YOUR group then if the kind of attitude I see from your post here is what I’d see there.
Look bud, I’ve been in two guilds already and had the same experience – no one there. That pretty much defeats the entire purpose of joining one don’t it?
But hey, what do I know right? I’m obviously just trolling because I don’t want to stick around in a guild that no one else even logs on in! What a horrible thing right?

The mole-whackers at Bloodcliff Quary.
Yes and no…
There are times when I just want to quit for good and leave and never come back, why? This God kitten kittening community! No one wants to help you in the high level maps when you are stuck between two overlapping events (IE a veteran group and a champion) as a) no one is around (or there is only bots), b) only people there are those that already did the map and are only waiting for dungeons, or c) people think its a solo only game and they think you are too weak or stupid to play the game “the right way/their way”.
What server are you on?
Because I have the exact same problem on Henge of Dervani. Only minus parts A and C because there’s no one around period.
It looks good, that’s all I can think of.
Pistol/dagger gives you the same bleed effect on your default attack but with the added benefit of stealthing.
Their HP.
A thief has the second-lowest amount of HP in the game. If they fail to kill you or escape, they will die. Period.
PvE player shelving thief class - trying again thanks to community!

tl;dr
pve player should shelf GW2 altogether.
and install it when he becomes a pvp player.:P
PvP is not the only type of play style nor the ONLY one people enjoy. I very much dislike the attitude of PvP’rs who seem to think that all games should or do revolve around them and them alone and PvE’rs are nothing but second class players. Take that elitist attitude elsewhere, thanks. I have the utmost respect for PvP’rs and the skills required for that style of play. I can do it and have, I simply don’t enjoy it. What I don’t respect is the idea that ONLY PvP’rs exist in a game or that only PvP is worthy of time or consideration by gamers or game developers.
I think it’s more of a jab at how nearly all the thief’s traits are geared for PvP and nothing else.
It’s not easy doing PvE with a thief.
When it works it’s a fine game. That’s why I’ve played it as much as I have so far. But I’m running into activities you need a group of players to do and there’s no one there but me.
That’s a little disheartening at first and now it’s becoming irritating. I can’t make other players materialize.
In tharnished coast you can find a hundread people farmind the same events over and over again in orr, i changed to henge of denravi and couldn’t find more than 10 people on the same place. :P
That is absolutely ridiculous. Henge is listed as full and yet I’m lucky not to trip over a tumbleweed.
Where the hell is everyone who’s supposedly playing on this server?
Hello Shoopa,
Im sorry to hear that you have such bad experiences with replys on your PM’s.
Since you have not sent me a PM, i assume our guild does not suit you..
Good luck with your search, im sure there is a good guild for you out there!
Which one is yours? I don’t see any PM from this username and I haven’t deleted many messages.
If you would have taken the time to read all replies to your post, you would have known….ijs..
You’re on a European server though aren’t you?
That wouldn’t work too well. I’m not running a T3 line here.
Funnily enough, it’s the only thing I see left to do in this game because I can’t find any other players.

…Overcrowded with real players or just bots?
I’m right now on Henge of Dervani because a guild I joined was based there. Had to log in at 4 AM EST (my time zone) to get in because it was a full server.
I haven’t seen a single person from that guild in it yet. Have yet to see a single human player anywhere except camped near dungeons.
This game feels as barren and empty as STALKER.
But will there actually be anyone playing during these events?
My experience so far says “No.”
Everything I’ve read about it says you should get something back from it. Not always something improved, but you always get something back.
You have to log into it before others do and fill it.
I switched servers to one that was listed as full to join a guild (which then completely vanished off the face of the internet not a day later) by logging in and switching worlds at a time no one should be playing games like 4 AM.
Did I not just say I tried that? An hour or so later and the chatbox still only has one message in it: my own.
You can’t elbow your way into a conversation somewhere if there isn’t one to begin with.
Paid $50 for my copy, and I think it was.
But it’s not going to have much replay value because there not a single kitten person anywhere on the maps anymore.
Once I’m done with the personal story it’ll be shelved. The “MMO” descriptor is a blatant lie in my case.
I love how I PM people who advertise a group and then they never bother responding.
The “community” of this game is turning into a joke.
That’s a pity Shooopa. It really depends on where you are and when, I’ll admit map chatter has lessened of late but if someone says something, I often find three or four people will chip in and suddenly you’ve got a map-wide conversation. Don’t be afraid to make a comment.
Tried that. An hour later and the chatbox still has only my comment in it.
There is no community here. I’m playing a single-player RPG advertised as a MMO.
The community’s already sergregated Squirrel. I can count the number of people I see on a sever said to be full by the world selection menu on one hand.
Either everyone’s just farming Orr like bots or they were just waiting for the WoW expansion to come out and jumped ship.
To use the word “community” when describing this game is a bad joke to me.
Just play a thief and there’s your hard mode.
They’re stupidly fragile against just about everything in PvE.
I see exactly 0 people talking about anything anywhere on a server listed as full.
They’re good to have, but they’re not something you can rely on exclusively. In PvE, enemies rarely, if ever remove conditions from themselves so you can bleed/burn/poison most of them to death.
In PvP, conditions are there to help you wear down an opponent, not be the only thing that kills them. They also force them to use their con. removal skills and so giving out conditions often makes them use up their abilities faster.
I do however hear there are enemies in dungeons who are healed by condition damage though. always be prepared to change tactics quickly. That’s why I don’t recommend making an build that’s based solely around condition damage. They’re handy, but you can’t rely completely on them.
As topic says, where do I find crystalline dust? No website about GW2 materials seems to have any answer.
