Combat. Anything changed?

in Players Helping Players

Shooopa.5632

I left this game almost a year ago, tired of the cookie-cutter hotbar “combat” system. Has anything changed since then? Are fights now something to actually look forward to or are they still just time sinks against enemies with way too many hit points and 2-hit kills where you run backwards and hit keys 1-5?

I’d rather not waste the time reinstalling 25 gigs and to discover nothing fundamentally different and delete it again.

It’s apparently how AreaNet handles gameplay design: Don’t make the game more challenging by requiring movement or creative use of game skills, just make the enemies tougher! Player figure out a way to get past that? Make them invincible!

Level descaling in my opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Shooopa.5632

Shooopa.5632

Level scaling allows virtually the entire world to be used as end-game content. You can find challenges no matter where in the world you go, and can play anywhere without fear of ruining the challenge for others. Dynamic events would become a joke if one high level player was capable of single handedly wiping out an entire low level enemy force.

No it doesn’t. Because the drops aren’t scaled up to their levels. So why would anyone who is level 80 bother with a lower level zone? They’re not going to get anything out of it.

I don’t get a blue+ 80 ‘every’ time there’s a drop, and sometimes the ‘on level’ item is 76+, but I do get items. I would say I get more ‘actual’ 80s recently, not that I think that matters (or care to wear them, at least in armor, since I made my exotics). I’ve gotten the rare yellow drop to disenchant to ectos. I sell the blues and greens for the cash. The whites get salvaged and I’m often surprised at how much of the higher tier materials I get from those.

Is it faster and do I get rich as fast as node teleporting, dungeon runs until my fingers bleed, running the same Orr events over and over and over? Maybe not. But it’s fun to go ‘work’ lower level zones alone, with friends, or just to lend a hand in areas you remember needed bodies for DEs.

I love the downscaling, especially getting to play my main with two friends who just started, but it also makes farming for lower level mats fun. I seem to get a ‘lot’ of dyes compared to everyone else complaining they don’t drop any more. I wonder if that’s because I like to play the early levels with my main?

Well that’s the key thing – you actually have another person to go around the game with. I can’t find anyone else anywhere.

Part of that reason I’m sure is because there’s no real incentive to visit the lower level areas once someone hits 80. Almost everyone wants exotic and ascended gear then.

When you’re trying to explore the maps alone, the level scaling becomes a huge problem.

Yes I do understand it’s part of the whole, “You’re an invading army in an area the enemy really does not want to give up” theme but if it is something that denies a player the ability to go somewhere they should be able to, it is bad design.

Your gaming background? Love/hate GW2?

Shooopa.5632

Long time FPS and other action games player here. I’ve been around since robo-Hitler exploded in Wolfenstein. Shooters are my oldest love, but I’ve played everything from platformers to hack-and-slashes like Diablo 2.

GW2 was my very first MMO RPG. I was interested in the talk about it being more complicated than just moving up to an enemy and then spamming the mouse buttons or keys until it died and the absolutely amazing art.

I’m more than a little disappointed in the game because a few weeks after its release the multiplayer element has completely vanished from not one, but three different servers I’ve played on. Being in two different guilds hasn’t helped either.

I don’t even really care about the new “ascended” items half as much as anyone else – I just wanted to try a MMO that wasn’t a WoW Skinner box. And at first it was great – when I was able to play it as a MMO and not a single player game.

100% map completion. I go back to low level areas all the time. Don’t generalize just because you don’t do it.

I was trying to do it but because no one else was I gave up. I’ve explored over 80% of the world on one character and 40% on another. I stopped because doing it in a MMO by myself was defeating the entire purpose I bought the game.

And people are farming Orr and the Fractals for new gear because they want the rares and exotics. They aren’t wandering about anywhere else.

Seriously people, quite your kittening already. What is the problem with having to put in a little work to get a reward. Shall everything just be handed to you regardless of how little work you put in? If you play this game with any kind of regularity, ascended gear shouldn’t be an issue. I like to get my hands dirty and come out the other end feeling better for the effort. Socialism works like that. It sounds like a great idea until the people who work their kitten off get the same thing as those who do nothing. Then, the hard workers quite working cus why should they? I understand that some of you are pissed because you work so hard for something and then poof, its crap or can be had for much cheaper then next week. Ever drive a new car off the lot? Guess how much it’s worth now? Point is, people need something to work toward or they get bored and stop trying/playing. Quit looking for hand outs, pull up your sleeves and get your hands a little dirty. My only suggestion is to find a way for players to get the ascended gear through WvW because not everybody is into dungeon grinding AND since WvW is such a huge part of the game, it should be possible. A large percentage of you have blown this ascended gear thing WAY overboard. The stats aren’t even that much better anyway. If they do offer newer gear they can always nerf the criteria for the older stuff, making it easier to get to the new. They have to do something to keep people playing, unless you enjoy walking around Lions Arch listening to NPC’s and well, nothing.

How about they make some incentive for higher level players to revisit zones instead of just farming Fractals like bots?

Oh wait, sorry. You’re just here to miss the point. My fault.

No way to tell.

40-something? Don’t know, not like it matters now.

4. Do you have a max level character (s)? (number if more than one)

Yes. One.

5. List 1-3 areas / zones / events / tp; where you spend most of your time for income.

Usually did dailies in starter areas because they’re the only ones easy enough to do alone.

6. Do you mainly use MF or not?

What?

7. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a mob? If so, how many and total?

No.

8. Have you ever got an exotic weapon from a chest? If so, how many and total?

No.

9. What’s the most number of rare weapons you have looted in one day or 8hrs time?

0.

10. How many rare or exotic weapons do you “expect” to loot in one hour of time?

0.

Weaponsmithing up to 325 or something.

13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)

Only overstock.

14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?

Absolutely not.

15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?

Too much wrong with this game to cover in one word.
