You’re mistaking damage for condition damage. Actual attacks like hitting your enemy with your knife does damage.

Bleeding is a condition. So more condition damage means the bleeding causes more damage per second – not how much it totals, but how much HP is knocked off at a time.

Here’s a novel idea:

Instead of a boss fight that isn’t difficult just because it has obscene amounts of HP and kills everyone with one hit, how about ones that involve tactics and strategy more complex than just “Shoot with ranged weapon, die, respawn, repeat.”?

We have one. It’s called “dodge”. You obviously aren’t dodging his attacks.

And you obviously aren’t familiar with video games concepts more complex than “Push button, watch thing happen.”

There is nothing remotely interesting or even challenging about an enemy whose entire arsenal of attacks are just one-shot kill melee strikes. You stay out range, keep out of range, and after 10-20 minutes of rinse-repeat you win. If that counts to you as a “tactic” then you should never, ever attempt to play God of War, Serious Sam, or Shadow of the Colossus.

Endless repetition is not a tactic. It’s a time-waster.

I think a good start would to make all those mobs spawn with a retaliation buff on them so all the lame kitten AOE class spammers kill themselves when they sit there doing nothing but AOE spam on enemies that are not even visable yet.

So make mobs even more annoying and incapable of doing anything but wasting peoples’ time? Great idea!

No. Just no.

Better thing to do is stop making swarms of minor enemies and instead spread them out over the area.

There’s a problem with upping the difficulty of lower level zones – many players have already hit level cap and are off in higher-level areas leaving a lot less people roaming about lower level zones.

When I go around the 2 starting areas in Ascalon, I can usually count the number of players I see on one hand. Just yesterday there was a grand total of 3 people fighting the champion giant attacking Nagling. On a full sever!

If you do increase the difficulty of anything, you better make sure there will be enough players actually taking part in them to make it possible. Remember your level may scale down, but late-level equipment gives you very larges stat boosts to compensate.

Just cranking up the difficulty will make less experienced players give up on the game because events the game says they should be able to do are suddenly impossible for them.

War master Yulia on blackgate after reset is still bugged. come on please get your stuff together this has become all too common a thing.
You punish me every which way now playing and restrict me in movement and money at least let me get skill points and 100%.
Are you really trying to stop people from playing because it feels like it.

We’ve finally tracked down the root cause of these missing skill point NPCs and fixed it. This magical fix will be in the next patch after it goes through further testing. This fix will also address issues with missing Event NPCs, too.

We apologize for the hassle these have been, but thank you all for hanging in there while we got this issue sorted out.

This is a big game. I haven’t even finished exploring all the maps let alone try any of the PvP. There’s craploads of content they have to work on so give them some time.

As Once you use Black powder then Heartseeker, you are stealthed on the Leap attack and the heart seeker has 100% chance to crit, but because the attack gave you stealth it doesn’t kick you out, so you follow it up with a backstab.

Actually you need to perform heartseeker after black powder to get stealth. The smoke field is an status effect area and heartseeker is a leap finisher.

Heartseeker doesn’t have 100% critical chance either. How much damage it causes depends on the target’s HP. Backstab however will critical hit nearly all the time, and even if it doesn’t it’s very powerful.

Except daggerstorm has this bad habit of not killing everything around you, but just wounding them. It throws daggers in very specific directions instead of covering an entire 360 degree area.

And again, you can’t dodge or do anything else for the entire duration of the attack.

Signet of Malice I’ve found doesn’t restore as much health as it need to in order to be extremely helpful. Enemies will almost always drain your HP faster than it can replenikitten.

…Re-pl-en-ish is considered profanity? Since when?

I haven’t tried PvP yet, still working up to level 80 so my equipment and traits are up to par.

But I can see dagger/pistol working great against lone targets. Its only problem is it only works against single targets. If anyone else jumps into the fight, you need to either switch weapons or run away.

Thieves guild isn’t just for single targets – their best feature is they pull attention away from you while also doing significant damage. Calling them in when you’re in over your head can turn a fight around instantly.

Caltrops are vastly underrated. They’re perfect for events where enemies spawn and run to a certain area like the separatists attacking the charr caravan in Diessa Plateau. Throw them down in their path, get back and then hit them with cluster bombs.

D/D Viability in Dungeons

I would not recommend melee against any boss enemy because irregardless of how much armor and HP you have, they inevitably hit hard enough to kill in 1-2 hits unless you’re a guardian with those damage negation skills.

Can it be done? Sure. But unless you’re an ultimate thrill/frustration seeker, I wouldn’t.

Finished Rata Sum about two days ago and it’s the easiest of all the cites to complete. The Grove wasn’t hard either, but figuring out where the vistas actually were so I could start looking for ways to get up to them was confusing.

The entire purpose of death blossom is condition damage, not critical.

You’re supposed to use it to inflict bleeding on enemies and then leave them die of it. I do however believe it would be much more useful if it also caused cripple too.

Blinding and absolutely incredible potential damage against lone targets.

They can also do a few area effect attacks with the short bow, but it’s not as impressive as the ranger’s bow skills.

And if you’re in a group of friendlies, just two words: Venomous Aura.

Like just about everything else, it’s all situational.

Double daggers will make quick work of small groups of enemies who try to swarm you thanks to the massive bleed damage of death blossom. But you don’t get any blind abilities with them. You can hit a literal small mob of enemies all at the same time with blossom and then run away, letting them die of bleeding.

Sword and pistol give you a decent reach, you can hit three targets lined up side by side in front of you with each swing and black powder means for 4 seconds you’re almost invincible. But it doesn’t have any bleed or poison abilities so you’ll have to hit things until they die instead of running off and letting their HP drain. Sword attacks can cause paralysis, weakness, and cripple.

I’d personally find double daggers much more useful if death blossom inflicted cripple too.

We’re not flaming or upset, we’re mostly surprised by that particular decision because its effectiveness compared to most other elite skills is questionable in most occasions.

It’s definitely handy when you’re surrounded and when combined with black powder. But in 90% of situations you’re probably better off with something else.

The problem I’m fairly sure is they did balance the quests – but only for the classes everyone picked – the guardian and warrior. These two classes are the best at handling groups of enemies. Everyone else? Not nearly as much.

So play testers probably said the quests were too easy and AreaNet complied.

Two instances bugged

There are two instances I noticed a few days ago weren’t progressing thanks to problems with the AI and with the placements of signs.

First up, the instance where you’re supposed to help skrit steal parts from an Inquest lab. The skrit just stand motionless in front of the lab when they reach it.

Second, infiltrating a separatists’ base disguised as flame legion and planting symbols. Killing 10 separatists is doable, but only 4 out of 5 symbols can be planted.

Yeah… I’m not happy about the personal story difficulty because it’s called personal story which logically means you can play it alone, but dungeons are purposely made to be for groups.

What they should do is include a party in-game voice chat so pick-up groups are actually functional.

1. the “large HP pools + massive hits = fun” thing as a design philosophy is wrong. dungeons need to be challenging thru mechanics and forcing people to keep an eye on what’s happening instead of going all out on the mobs.

A challenging game isn’t challenging because it’s testing how patient you are, it’s about how you respond to what it does. See the attack, move out of the way. Enemy activates something that makes them immune to projectiles? Get in and hit it. Enemy becomes immune to melee? Get back and shoot.

Real simple things like that would make all the difference and be a lot more fun than just “here’s an enemy, it has lots of HP and kills you in one hit. See you in 10 minutes!”

Yes you do. Because it’s basically death blossom but with much less bleed damage and the tendency to pull in enemies you can’t even see on your screen yet.

To Ruien (who typifies the “elitist jerk” stereotype so perfectly and ironically), and to all the others agreeing with his viewpoint on this and other threads, here’s what you’re all missing.

No modern MMO can survive or thrive if it locks casual players out of entire sections of content. It’s that simple. Want a current example? Look carefully at the financial woes of The Secret World, where casual players are completely brick-walled from participating in the end-game progression for purple (epic) crafted gear, in a game where gear stats are everything.

And before you say anything in rebuttal, consider the fact that dungeon tokens, many many many of them, are needed in this game not only for dungeon prestige armor skins, but also for legendary weapon crafting components. So if the casuals cannot do dungeons here, then they are effectively locked out of both of these types of “end game” goals/content.

We’re not asking for the game to cater to less skilled players, but for it to actually require some kind skill instead of just patience. The most viable strategy for most bosses is to get a ranged weapon, set auto attack, and then leave your computer for 10 minutes. Is that really what you’d call fun?

You sir, have clearly not tried playing Dark Souls, which I would suggest, as it sounds right up your alley. I promise you wont have to deal with all the lesser mortals scumming up your gaming environment there.

He’d hate that game, that game requires planning your approach, paying attention to visual ques, and having reflexes instead of just spamming a single button for 20 minutes. He wouldn’t have time to wipe the cheetos dust off his fingers in time to dodge enemy attacks.

Pretty much.

Every boss encounter seems to come down to picking either a guardian or warrior for melee with them, or for everyone else ranged attacks.

The most successful tactic for dealing with a champion enemy in this game is pick a long ranged weapon, get just close enough to use it, and then set auto-attack while you leave your computer to do something else for 10-15 minutes.

That’s not fun, that’s tedious and boring. Where are enemies that are challenging in more ways than just having one hit kills and ludicrous amounts of HP?

You need to tell the devs exactly what’s happening when you play it that way they have an idea what they need to adjust. For example, they recently discovered an enemy was regenerating its health way too fast for anyone to kill it and are fixing that soon.

My problem’s with the Defending The Keep mission – the undead come in way too many at a time to fight with any tactic and the NPCs are useless at fighting them with me.

Absolutely naff.

Not only do you have zero skills that can hit multiple targets, but you don’t have any useful status effects aside from bleed.

The shortbow is the only way to go for ranged fighting because:

1) Its default attack hits up to three targets with one shot
2) It does more damage and has the same fire rate
3) Its cluster bombs can be combined with your venoms to hit multiple enemies.

Most of the complaints are from people who are something other than warriors or guardians.
