Oooooooh. Did not know that about the assassin’s reward. Well that’s not too good a choice for me then.
Either of these a better idea?

This would be a glass cannon wouldn’t it? If you’re going to be a melee fighter you need to keep yourself alive.
Can someone explain to me the importance of the third tier major traits?
Most of them just appear to be small stat boosts you could get from weapons and armor. But yet there are people who swear by putting 30 points into at least one trait line. What am I missing?
I’m ditching the pistols, they’re not at all effective enough. I read the short bow not only gives the class area-effect attacks but with elementalists’ attacks it’s the best support tool a thief can have.
Why is it important to max out an entire trait line? Some of the major traits at the end of the lines aren’t really that useful looking compared to ones like Preparedness which means more initiative and therefore more attacks/escapes and Assassin’s Reward which basically means free healing.
Most of the third tier skills except venom aura look like small stat boosts you can get just by equipping the right armor and weapons. Is there something I’m not seeing?
Anyone know who the voice actor who did these two is? He also voices a few of the random NPCs so IMDB won’t be of any help because they just throw his name under “Male charr”.
Dual pistols are meant to be used in conjunction with an ally, preferably an elementalist with a lot of fields. You have no idea how unreal combo stacking is with unload.
10 second burn stack? EZ
You can get better results with the short bow’s cluster bomb though. It’ll still apply the effects multiple times, but it’ll also cover an entire area instead of just one enemy.
In dungeons I think a thief’s main role is support. Using a short bow and other classes’ condition-causing rings makes you a force to be reckoned with.
Don’t worry about the first set Deadly Arts. You do not want a glass cannon, it WILL NOT work in this game.
You want to focus on being able to constantly be on the move and outlasting your opponents by throwing obstacles in their way and confusing them. Your damage-dealing should come from your high precision and you want skills that give you more initiative and healing abilities.
No, but if you join The Order of Whispers I hear you get a much better hood.
It’s not at all that great compared to the shortbow when it comes down to it. You already have the best pistol skill black powder with dagger/pistol.
What kills twin pistols is no area-effect. You need at least one of those attacks on hand at all times, and they offer none. And they’re not as powerful as they should be.
I’m willing to try just about anything. The only thing I really liked about dagger/pistol was black powder which is how I even made it as far as I did to begin with. But double daggers have cloak and dagger which is even better because some enemy attacks ignore blindness. Stealth is much more effective.
Is this a better route to go?

Great ideas thank you. What about for dealing with multiple foes? I hear death blossom is the best thing to use then, will I have fast enough initiative regeneration to use it enough to kill them before I’m swarmed?
You’re having the exact same problem I am Kizee.
Around level 30, the garden varity enemies suddenly became punishingly hard to kill. I think I have not picked my traits well.
Well like I said I have no idea what I’m doing.
The first link is what I can right now at my current level. The second is where I was planning to end up.
But I have no idea what I should do, so I’m asking for help with it. I’m really struggling right now with everyday mobs so I know what I’ve got built right now is not working.
So I’ve made some stupid decisions in picking my traits, putting way too many points into power and hardly any into anything meant to keep me alive. I need to respec, that much is certain.
But how to go about doing it? I’ve got a plan I can execute right away and one for the long-off future of level 80. But is it a good one? You tell me! Because I have no idea what I’m doing!

Something went horribly wrong with your link. Can you redo it? I’d love to see what you’ve concocted.
Someone’s figured out how to use this:
When used in a group, you can lock up any enemy for 5 seconds. That can be really useful.
One thing you missed that I absolutely love:
Black power is radius-based – which means you can give your allies blinding attacks too! Against enemies whom it works against, it makes you and anyone standing near you pretty much invincible for 5 seconds.
I’m curious as to how you kite with DD?
Death blossom causes massive bleeding. Some enemies can be killed with one of those alone.
Thieves are supposed to be support units – they’re not built for front-line conflict, they’re specialists. Go after targets of opportunity like stragglers and high-value targets like mages. Never get into a stand-up fair fight.
It’s kind of “Eeeehhhhhhh.”
It does a good deal of damage, but it’s only close range and worst of all doesn’t have any blinding attacks.
Now my spine hurts just watching that. Ouch!
You don’t have to click a character/enemy to attack them, just press 1 or an attack skill icon and the game will auto-target.
It can be really helpful though – you can cause effects that you can’t always cause with thief skills and it doesn’t cost you any initiative.
But most importantly, it has a long range which makes it perfect for attacking ranged enemies because you can teleport right next to them and start blinding them.
As a thief you’re not supposed to be showing off. You’re supposed to be cackling sadistically after stabbing someone in the back.
I’m hearing a lot of advice from people recommending more focus on Acrobatics and traits that keep you alive. They tell me you’ll be doing plenty of damage anyway so you should focus more on surviving.
Try a dagger/pistol combo and use Black Powder. It causes blind on its initial attack and all attacks afterwards in the circle for about 5 seconds.
Yes. It’s not at all worth the skill point price for what it does.
If it lasted for 5 seconds then it’d be useful against the mole people who can’t be blinded. But it only lasts for one attack!
Wow, lot of responses in a very short time.
Should have said before, residing in NA, so I’d really perfer to stick to one of those servers. I have no idea how my ping would for another part of the world.
I’m going to be busy looking into all of these, thanks all.
I’m somewhat new to MMO RPGs but I’ve picked up GW2 pretty quickly (I think). But the game really doesn’t seem meant to be played solo – especially when my character’s personal story quest pits me versus about 6 enemies at a time.
So I need hand. Hopefully several of them. Heavily armed.
I’m not a hardcore player, and I play a good variety of other games too but I’m almost always willing to lend a hand to people who need it – as long as they don’t run off and leave me to take grenades in the trenches.
Currently on the Blackgate server.
