3. The blood stones act to limit the magical abilities so that no one being could have full control over all 4 of the magic schools. Both Liches from GW1 couldn’t use burning.
This seems like the main possible lore issue, but in my opinion, I don’t see throwing a couple seconds of burning here in there is a massive dip into a different school of magic.
I’m currently at work so I can’t hop onto the wiki due to a site blocker (why it blocks the wiki and not this… I don’t even). But the trait is called Dhuumfire, isn’t it? Didn’t Dhuum dwell in the Underworld when he was still kicking, and wasn’t the Underworld a bit fiery? It could be channeling flames from the Underworld, I suppose.
You could also look at the burning not as the victim being literally caught on fire, but the feeling of burning inside of them due to the corruption.
Just my two cents.
I honestly don’t have much problem with it at all. The hand could probably move a bit faster, but it hits decently hard and pierces. The Life Force gain from a single hit in a clump of mobs is pretty great, imo.
Though the reason you don’t see condition warriors is simply because axe/greatsword is so much more powerful that you’re actually nerfing your damage potential by using a sword.
It’s also due to the fact that I haven’t seen much in the way of making Warriors terribly durable. In spite of having a tie for the highest HP pool, they don’t have much at all to maintain it.
I’ll have to go check this one out, sounds interesting : P
This was not commentary. just giving info. everyone has an opinion. none were asked for here
This is fine, but you have to understand that an online forum is a place of discussion, so just by posting it you are asking indirectly for some sort of a dialogue; to me it seems like the understood purpose of posting here. I don’t think he was trying to tear you down, just offering a different point of view.

Exploring provides the best gain, dynamic events are next.
If you are level 20, I recommend checking out Hessian Hills, there is a centaur event chain in the west of the map (level 24 I think) that gives good experience. (Defend the bridge, take out the lieutenants, take out the the champion, repeat).
Alternatively, run around and tag each POI, skill point, and waypoint in all of the level appropriate maps.
Kessex Hills *
And yeah, that’s a fun event chain : P
Water Ele and Guardian are probably your best bets for that honestly.
Although I do really enjoy my support/control Necro : P
I give you this:
Try pressing one.
2nd page about halfway down. There’s your answer. Stop complaining already.
Yeah… That was four months ago. Not really relevant to current time.
On the upside, they don’t aggro as badly as they used to as of the April patch. The pathing is the current issue it seems. If there’s a ledge or uneven ground, there’s a fair chance that the AI will detect impossible pathing and so they just sit there. I find that staying mobile usually works, as they’ll be forced to move in your direction and then possibly find a working path to the enemy. Annoying, yes, but still workable.
Even so, the pathing issues make the build unreliable with a full bar of them, and the unresponsiveness of some of their abilities doesn’t help either. Shadow Fiend always waits a few seconds to use the Blinding ability, and more than half the time the Bone Fiend’s immobilize skill won’t even go off.
I think that the April patch was a sign that they will eventually get to it, I just think they’re swamped with a mountain of other things. We just have to be patient.
…Very patient. xD;
How is 180 toughness for you and your pet and 200hp/sec (with 300 healing power) or 500hp/sec (with full clerics/apocathery) for your pet bad?
Lol, this.
I think the consensus of Signet Warrior being bad has started to make people think that Signets in general are bad. Which is amazingly untrue.
I’m still pretty new with my Ranger, but I’ll give it a go with what I’ve seen so far.
1. A condition heavy build relying on Axe/torch and sword/Horn
Sorta. I keep swapping out which weapons I’m using, but these are consistent winners as far as I’m concerned.
Now, when you say condition “heavy” if you mean stacking a ton of bleeds, close to 100% uptime on Poison and/or Burn, etc. probably not. You won’t be rolling out a ton of DPS with conditions, but you should be able to throw them on consistently enough to pump out damage while being super tanky with Healing Power investment and clever play. You’ll be able to take down flimsy toons relatively quickly and whittle down most bunker builds by just being kitten ed hard to kill and having a decent amount of conditions just about always up.
2. Heavy Damage from Cat/feline type pets to cause enemy to focus on DD rather then the conditions ticking on them.
Not sure what DD is, my brain is being derpy today.
But yes, feline pets deal impressive enough damage for your enemies to be about as busy with them as with you, if that’s what you mean.
3. some group utility, i would like to be able to offer some sort of healing/condition removal for allies.
With the amount of healing power you’ll likely be running, Healing Spring should be pretty amazing for supporting the party. I don’t know that you’ll have too much in the way of condition removal outside of that for the party, but with Healing Spring alone you’re sure to be an asset.
Sorry, this post was probably as unhelpful as saying, “I don’t know” xD;;
I have fun with it. Whether other people do or not, I don’t really care. Seems to still be pretty hit or miss.
Best thing to do would just be to come back and try it yourself. We have two new maps for sPVP, if that’s anything to bring you in.
If they’re as insubstantial as you say, then why would you care?
There are “old days” in this game already?
Well… From a non-biased standpoint, Elementalist may have some stronger balance right now than Ranger. Don’t get me wrong, I melt faces with my Ranger, but from what I’ve heard people say that play both, Ele is easier to pick up and has a few more viable builds than the alternative. So if you’re not looking to deliberate and you just want to jump in and roll something, Ele mighhhht be a safer bet. Might.
I’d say if you’re willing to hop into some quick sPVP like everyone’s been saying, since it doesn’t really take much time investment. Give them each a few test drive matches, then see how you feel.
I rolled a Ranger a few days back and have been sPVPing to try to get the hang of a bunker traps/BM build, and so luckily I’ve been on the other side of the equation with Guardians. The build just seems to counter them well.
Anyway, one thing I try my best to do (against anyone really, but particularly Guardians and other bunker Rangers) is to keep as close to 100% uptime Poison on them as possible. This nerfs their healing by a really nice chunk, so those Guardians that just keep healing will have some of the wind taken out of their sails. If you’re not wanting to trade off the Zerker build that’s fine, I think if you try to keep some Poison on the Guardians it may make a pretty big difference. Like someone said above, Marsh Drakes will work well for this and alternate with Poison Volley.
Awesome, thanks! ^^
You guys have been super helpful. Looking forward to trying this build out.
Does anyone know if the Bloodthirst trait (Blood II) applies to Life Transfer and Life Siphon, or does “siphoning health” only apply to things like the Vampiric minor trait?
Eh… That’s not too bad. I don’t have anywhere near 1200 Healing Power, though, haha. I may have to swap to full Cleric gear, currently mostly Soldier with some Cleric in the mix.
How much does Deathly Invigoration heal for?
That’s the problem with a lot of tool tips, they’re very vague. =/
I’m looking at going more support with my Necro to try out something new, but I’m not exactly sure which direction to take it. I’m really interested in doing something with DeathShroud, and after seeing Transfusion (Blood Magic VI) I think it could be interesting.
Has anyone tried a support build with DeathShroud, and if so, how did you like it? What traits helped out the most?
I’m not sure how doable option one would be… I don’t have much technical knowhow, but I imagine the population cap is set to what it is for some specific reason.
Options two and three however sound fantastic. The queues I think are largely due to the addition of FotM and option three sounds very similar to how GW1 worked, and it was fantastic. Getting to the world your friends were in was never an issue except sometimes during the really big events.
+1! :D
I would love that.
I’m one of the stubborn idiots still using the Minions build, and yes, Flesh Wurm is by far one of my MVP’s. Or MVM’s. Most Valuable Minion? Anyway.
Like everyone is saying, he has one of the most useful utilities in that he gives you an escape button when you need it. He has fantastic damage and good health to boot. But I really only equip him when I’m settling in for a long fight.
I love my Asura Necro
It’s all up to opinion.
Drach, you have some serious preconceived notions that are absolutely ‘redicoulus’.
All your ‘shoulds’ are not in any way ‘shoulds’ and I disagree with all of them.
It is clear you like warrior, I suggest you go play that class instead of necro. Also I hope I never encounter you or any1 like you in-game.Unfortunately a significant number of players think this way. If a particular weapon set isn’t quite up to par, it should be buffed ten fold. While I agree that the axe could use some minor buffs we don’t need it to become the next fotm.
As for warriors 100b doing much more damage, it does. But it also requires melee range, and immobilizes the warrior. One dodge can negate the entire combo. While you can’t always dodge 100b, it is much easier to hit with ghastly claws, at range, while kiting other players.
/2cents
Agreed.
Hundred Blades does nothing to a skilled player unless you combine it with Bull’s Charge and Frenzy (which is three skills). Even then, a stun breaker gets you out of harm’s way with minimal damage. The high damage is warranted because it’s rare that you hit a player with the full brunt of the skill. Even in PVE when I tried GSword on my Warrior, mobs would run around me to attack the guy kiting around and leave me swinging at the air.
But yes, Ax needs a buff. Whether it’s a slight damage increase, doubling the Vulnerability inflicted (A Ranger throws 10 stack on an enemy instantly. Sure, it has a cooldown but you have to spam Ax1 for a while to get around that), or allowing cleaving, I’m all for it.
I think the siphons are best used as a part of your strategy and not your main device. This is the way I use them anyway. They wont do sufficient healing to enable you to sustain a dps class, but they will add a few extra 1000hp to your total if you play smart.
This.
Life Siphoning is a big player in both my wells build and my minion build (shaddap haterz). But I really don’t see it being something that you could base an entire build around itself.
It’s better, but not by too much. I love the minion build to death, just because the idea of it is so fun to me. But so far as being super viable, eh.
It’s still in a very rough patch. When the minions all work as I want them to (i.e., the stars align) my damage is lovely. But that doesn’t often happen, and as it is right now, it’s too easy to lose track of them in a crowd. And when heavy AOE takes them out, I essentially have no heal, no utilities and no elite.
I have fun with it and a skilled player can make it work. But a skilled player could probably make the other builds work much better.
Eh, the Zhaitan fight was underwhelming, but I feel like going to fight Zhaitan again would be beating a dead horse IMO.
There is evidence, you’re just ignoring it. It is ironic you should bring up the point of acting like a little child with his fingers in his ears.
What evidence? Ignoring what? If you have it, post it. Up until now, you haven’t posted any evidence despite being asked several times. The closest thing is that you mentioned the Norn lifting a big rock, and Aesgir punching Jormag’s tooth out (which I already gave my two cents for).
You made the claim, the burden of proof is yours.
Oh yeah, and to put things into perspective. A single Norn managed to do what it took the combined might of the Pact to replicate – hurt an Elder Dragon.
Knocking out a tooth and KILLING an elder dragon are not the same thing. I have no idea where your logic is coming from here. Not to mention that there were Norn IN the Pact, so you’re comparing one Norn to a bunch of Norn and other guys. This entire statement is flawed.
Aesgir Dragonrender knocked a tooth out of Jormag’s friggin’ skull with a normal blow for crying out loud.
And here we come again to this. With the norm of Norn boasting, don’t you think this story seems a little fishy? I mean, to me it seems like the entirety of this story being true is about as likely as Jormag tripping, knocking the tooth out from falling on a tree, and Aesgir saw an opportunity to have an eternal legend all to himself. Since when has a single Norn accomplished anything close to this? Was he SuperNorn?
No.
If even the few prodigies among Norn could manage this, there wouldn’t even be Elder Dragons anymore.
A Norn could tear a golem apart with his bare hands. No, a Norn child could!
With Norn children being roughly the size of humans and made of flesh and bone and the average golem being much larger and made of STEEL… Sure thing, go for it. This logic makes total sense.
Norns are not simply “large Humans”; they are beings of mythological strength_.
You keep saying this without any kind of evidence. A norn lifted a big rock? That’s cool. A golem can lift a big rock.
They are not mythical creatures, they are simply a big, intelligent race. And until you provide any evidence for this, you’re doing nothing more than planting your hands over your ears and yelling, “NO NO NO”
True, Norn are immensely strong. No one’s questioning that they are physically the strongest race. But to go as far as to say that they’re essentially supernatural and could take on entire warbands by themselves without breaking a sweat is ridiculous. Jora had that mentality if you recall, always trying to hunt everything by herself. How’d those solo hunts work out for her?
Norn have some great stories and trophies, but as far as most of these great stories (which are handed down by word of mouth by generations of adoring fans, by the way. That never blows things out of propotion) being even 50% true? I wouldn’t trust these heroes farther than I could throw them.

Please don’t listen to the people griping about this. The old system of dailies was stale and didn’t offer much incentive to complete other than to nab the Mystic Coin.
The new system may have some silly tasks that could be weeded out (talking to a laurel merchant, maybe the dodge one), but it’s not a big deal. The dailies change and I like that. Every day is something different, and I personally think it’s a great step in the right direction.
Shapeshifter / Druid (because they’re practically the same thing) would be insanely cool.
Only thing is, if they make a profession based entirely around shapeshifting, the whole Norn racial transformation thing would probably become a little… obsolete.
But Idk.
I keep wanting a Heavy profession based around polearms, but realistically it would probably make a lot more sense just to add a polearm weapon to the Warrior’s arsenal. I mean, how would a guy in plate armor with a polearm be super duper unique from a Warrior? It wouldn’t.

If an asura can carry a greatsword, a female human can too.
I think you’re forgetting that you’re playing a /fantasy/ game… Lol.
It’s amazing how many people came to the forums to ask for their 10 laurels for January in spite of ANet’s clear declaration that January wouldn’t award laurels regardless of whether players completed it before or after the patch.
I read ArenaNet saying that but even thinking about it now, I have no idea where I read it. Are you really amazed that people weren’t aware of some obscure piece of information that wasn’t communicated in the game didn’t get through to people? Most people don’t read the forums or the website updates, they hear about laurels in the game, see they didn’t get them, believe it’s a bug (with GW2, unfortunately that’s the most likely scenario) and post about it on the forums. There’s nothing unbelievable about this to me.
Your name is appropriate. +1
I had the same issue, I read it somewhere but couldn’t remember if the source was legitimate or not. Unfortunately, we can’t all be all-knowing.
Ah, poop.
Thanks ^^;
They changed their minds, it’s not the end of the world. Getting enough gold for 99% of the dyes isn’t hard, and there are plenty of near-look-alikes that work until you can save up.
Sorry if it’s been asked a gagillion times, I just want to be sure. I waited until now to do my monthly in hopes that I could grab them once the patch hit, but I still have a good bit to finish. If you don’t get them this month, I’ll probably just hold off. I’ve heard a couple people saying no, but I want to be 100% sure
Thanks much!
Sweet, it’s almost done! Not too long at all. I was expecting an all-day thing.
DL seems stable at around 1-2MB/sec, if that helps at all
I had a sudden weird spurt of nostalgia toward WoW around the turn of the year, so I decided to take a month long GW2 break and party it up in Azeroth.
Well, a week later, here I am DLing GW2 again. I’m used to terribad computers, and that combined with my general lack of IT knowhow spurred me to uninstall the GW2 client during my break.
I haven’t DL’d the GW2 client since before release, so I have no idea how long this is going to take. Has anyone done the download recently and can tell me roughly how long it took?
The wells do cause some conditions, but not enough to really benefit from high CondiDMG. I use a wells build most often on my Necro, and high Power makes it really nice.
Great changes, thanks Devs! : D
Us cold, creepy Necros need love too. > w <
It’s lagged for me too, occasionally not responding at all.
My biggest annoyance is that the Golem charges 10 miles away and aggros everything in that line.
Lol. Well, it’s this build or, “Stealth, here but you’re blinded, stealth, here but you’re blinded, steal, heal, here but you’re blinded, stealth, THREE second stun, here but you’re blinded, lol ur ded”
Seriously, whatever they’re doing, they’re blinding faster than I can hit. So I hit once to clear the blind before my bigger attacks, but boom, blinded again, big attack fails, I’m dead.
It’s a joke.
Anyone saying Thieves aren’t good because of the nerfs are ignoring glaringly broken skills.
I just don’t understand the romance between Logan and Jennah, it seems so superficial. I read the book, and when they met it just seemed so corny to me. The way I see the equation for him:
She’s the queen + She’s smokin’ = True love! :D
No.
But “Magic” is such a cop-out answer most of the time. I want some explanation, some hard science here! (Physics minor/Biochemistry major here)
I think you’re playing the wrong genre of game then, brosky.
Some of them probably have roots in castlemaniac’s answer, though Dustfinger’s answer is particularly helpful: reasons for some of them are just unknown. In a world of magic, you’re bound to see some strange things, I suppose.

I love Dual Daggers to death. The damage is great, it has utility to nerf the opponent’s damage, and rooting with #3 and stealing health with #2 works wonders for me.
I just really don’t see Ax being viable. It seems to mostly be about damage, but the damage is worse than the Daggers and it doesn’t have the utility of Daggers. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Also, +1 to Staff being incredible. I couldn’t see playing Necro without it.
Yeah, I’m getting the same. Tried to enter HotW Explorable and it wouldn’t load, so I closed it out and tried logging in.
No dice.
