Transmuting Issue

I’m trying to transmute my Valkyrie Exalted Mask to look like my new Furnace Reward Light helm. I pull up the transmutation panel using a Fine Transmutation Stone, put each piece in their respective slot, and click the stats I want (Valkyrie stats from my crafted helm and the rune from the dungeon helm).

For some reason though, the Item Transmutation button is still greyed out. Why is this happening?

How to acquire Quaggan weapons?

True, crafting can be a bit of a pain. I crafted my full exotics armor set with Tailoring, took me a while, heh.
On the other hand though, crafted items seem to sell a bit cheaper. I was beginning to worry that they came from a karma merchant somewhere, since karma isn’t exactly something I have much of.

Question about Transmuting Armor

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sieg.8439

Sieg.8439

I heard somewhere that once an item is equipped, it cannot be transmuted. Here’s an explanation of my current predicament:

I wanted to craft my first set of Exotics, so I leveled my Tailoring to 400 and started to work. I first crafted my coat, then pants then shoulder pads. After saving up for a while, I managed to just get enough to finish crafting the set by making the boots, gloves and mask.

I equipped the coat, pants and shoulders before I heard that rumor, and now I’m scared to equip the other three pieces. I would REALLY like to run Explorable SE to get the SE dungeon set and transmute the set that I crafted to look like that and keep the stats of the crafted set.

My question is this: If I equip the armor that I crafted, will I still be able to transmute it later to look like the SE set?

MAJOR inconsistency with dagger mainhand

Yeah, most other Dagger skills are ranged so it’s hard to say. I don’t think mainhand Dagger skills on Thief cleave. I think it’s a Dagger thing.

Sieg.8439

^What he said.

My MM build is far from squishy, I’m sitting strong at 28.5k HP with some nice Toughness as well. I prefer to roll with Staff, Dagger+Dagger for control, damage. Wear down your opponents with Staff CC and conditions plus minion shenanigans. By the time they get to you, prison shank with Daggers and it’s game. I play sPVP with this build and hardly ever lose 1v1’s.

Sieg.8439

I have a bulky MM build and I don’t typically have problems with Mesmers unless they’re just played really well. My minions tend to bust the clones fairly quickly, and as was mentioned above, DS is great at breaking the kitten things (particularly #4).

You just have to play it smart. I can see a condition build having trouble with them, but just use the targeting and observing tips offered above and you should be fine. Just remember that Mesmers are in a really great place PVP-wise right now, so there are a lot of moving pieces to this. Future balancing will hopefully help a bit.

Yeah, Plague seems to be what you’re looking for.

If you don’t enjoy it though, there’s that. Try out Lich form just to see how you like it. I honestly thought I would hate it, but it ended up being a ton of fun to play around with for a while.

I’m a minion guy though, first and foremost, and do mostly PVE. So in the end, Flesh Golem was the winner for me. It all just depends on how you play and what you enjoy.

Hoopa doopa.

Why the hate?

Sieg.8439

I’ve been feeling a bit down in the dumps about the profession after reading through the Necro forums here for a bit, and played my alts for a while to get a break.

But when I finally tried some sPVP and WvW today with my 80 Necro for the first time, I had a blast. Had a lot of 1v1 and only lost once when on an even footing. The strange part of it all was that I’m running a Dagger/Dagger+Staff MM build, which seems to be the least celebrated.

In dungeons and PVE, the only times I’ve had real trouble were times that everyone in the group was having trouble (CoE, I’m looking at youuuu).

Sure, the profession may need some love in balancing and especially in bug squashing, but it’s really not terrible from my experience. I honestly think the mass of complaint threads is one of the main things hurting the general view of Necro. Once a large amount of people start complaining that it’s bad, people start to believe it.

uhhhh I would say that as an ethereal being of the netherworld – liches are gender NEUTRAL.

I think it’s more of a gender issue than that. I mean, why does the Lich automatically default to a male appearance if it’s supposedly gender-neutral? If the driving idea there was to be gender-neutral they could have just put a spinal cord there without the gender-defined chest.

Either way, she rolled a female. Meaning she wanted to be female. You really can’t say that the Lich form is gender-neutral from a visual standpoint. I think it’s a valid point.

Rerolling, and this is why. [constructive thread]

Sieg.8439

Personally, I love my necro to death. I have her due to the continuity of my storyline and GW1. I’ll keep her, and just work on my other toons for now. I’m not getting rid of her, but just hope that they fix the class, soon.

This, pretty much. I’m in an RP guild and I’ve been character crafting Siegg for over a year now. So there’s no way that I’ll just reroll him, I can’t imagine him as anything else.

On the other hand, I think I may just RP with him and play him lightly for the time being, while trying to level an alt to play with the guild for dungeon runs. Every build I try gets outshined by someone else in the party, and it just gets a little depressing.

I will say that with my MM build, my damage was pretty wicked while my minions were all up and collectively attacking my target with me. But the sad part is that in dungeons, strong AOE is everywhere and takes them out without me being able to do a thing about it. I try to run around to lead them away from red circles when I see them, but there will either just be too many red circles or they won’t follow. Without my minions, my damage became pretty terrible.

Is the Power trait line’s trait that buffs Minion damage by 30% the only thing that affects minion damage as well, or does the Necro’s Power score affect it?

Tarnished Coast has the largest RP community, but they are still a very small section of the population. Outside of DR you won’t see any RP (not for lack of trying!). Our level 80 community also appears to be a bit ahead of the curve as well, from talking with people on other servers.

We also always win at WvW due to surprisingly uniform good leadership and tactics, so there’s that.

As much as I love this server, we do not ‘always win.’ Almost every time I’ve checked the scores, we’ve been getting beaten into the dirt.

What I’m after here is, that why not let both groups get their wish. It would only be a small change, adding a bit of utility to here and there.

You realize that every game mechanic would require a full re-haul for that, right? That’s very far from a ‘small change.’

4. Elementalist
5. Ranger
6. Engineer
7. Necromancer
8. Mesmer

This list looks pretty accurate from what I’ve been seeing.
I’m really weirded out by the lack of Necro’s around, when I first decided on it for my main I kind of expected it to be over-played like mad. But I guess it makes sense, the profession doesn’t really conform to common play-styles from other popular MMO’s out there.

well they could make it so you’re not considered “out of combat” while you’re lying on the ground slowly bleeding to death.

What I’m guessing happened is that he used his pet to revive him before warping. If it let him do that while downed, it’s definitely a glitch. He probably got brought back up by his pet and warped that second.

But like other people are saying, he might’ve just had a bad connection and got DC’d.

Sieg.8439

Minions arn’t meant to live. No undead pun intended. They’re expendable, and half of them blow up when you command them to do their ability anyway. Ofcourse it’s better when they live, but hey.

You’re going to want the 20% minion recharge speed as your first 10pt trait box, then at higher levels the minion siphoning health box, the 50% more minion health box and 30% more minion damage box.

This, pretty much.

My Flesh Golem and my Blood Fiend are the only ones that ever really stay alive for any real amount of time, the Golem because he’s bulky and the Blood Fiend because he mostly just balloons next to me in the back.

I run an offensive “minion bomber” build with Staff, and Dagger/Dagger for when something gets in my face. The minions are mostly just there to be hit instead of you, and add to the damage. I will say though that running minions before you can get the traits he’s talking about (particularly the HP boosting one and the reduced cooldown one), they die left and right. I didn’t go back to the minion build until around 50, I think. Early levels I mostly rolled with a more defensive/debuffing wells build with Dagger/Dagger, because I just didn’t enjoy standing in the back constantly recasting my minions.

Here are the ones I use:
Blood Fiend (6) – Steals life, hangs back with me. With the CD reduce trait, I can basically pop him every 16 seconds if I have to, which is pretty nice. If I’m not taking much heat though, I usually don’t pop him.

Bone Minions (7) – These little buggers are the main source of my damage, mostly. Their individual auto-attacks don’t do huge amounts of damage though, so I just cast them, wait for them to run to my target, then blow them up. Trust me, the damage is sick, and the CD is only 16 seconds like the Blood Fiend.

Bone Fiend (8) – This guy usually hangs back with me too, launching his pins for some pretty nice damage. The Bone Fiend is frail, but his auto-attack damage is higher than most of the minions and his toggle ability is an immobilize. It’s super handy.

Flesh Worm (9) – This one is pretty much just a turret, but if I’m not mistaken, his damage is second to only the Flesh Golem. I summon him if I expect a fight to take a decent amount of time, and he increases DPS by a nice amount. I love him.

Flesh Golem (0) – This is the melee minion that will do the most distracting with enemies. He can throw a punch and take one too, and his toggle ability is a knockdown. Pretty incredible when timed right. Another great thing is he regenerates health out of combat, so you don’t have to worry about recasting him all that often.

Other people like different mixes of them, it’s up to you really. Just know that minion builds are certainly viable, just perhaps not so much until later levels. Doing nothing but recasting minions gets annoying, I know.

I tried out my Warrior with some PVP last night, and it actually went pretty well. Even though we have a thick steel skin, this is still a game where you have to play like you’re a glass cannon. When I would see a big group fighting, I’d stay to the side with my rifle and blast people from afar. By the time one would notice me and run over, they’d be worn down enough for me to whip out my dual axes and go to town.

If I encountered a single enemy player, I’d shoot them with the Vulnerability shot, then Cripple shot to keep them from running away effectively. Then, swap to dual axes. Sure, my offensive Warrior is frail, but her damage outpaces so well in 1v1 that it’s not a big issue.

Of course, when facing multiple players on even footing, it’s not so pretty… But then again, 2-3 v 1 is never something you should see as being great odds anyway. She does her job very well, and every build has its weakness.

Managing pulls is very important, and as an Ele, staying further back than the bulkier prof’s is going to be a good idea too. Like Amos said, 5 mobs at a time is a bad pull, heh. Try to get your group to focus a little more, and set priorities on the scarier mobs to pile on first (ghost Ele’s, ghost Rangers). Also, don’t waste your immobilizes on the ranged mobs, like you said, it’s not effective. Pop your immobilizes on the melee mobs that are trying to collapse your skull with a hammer and roll back.

How are Dungeons meant to be played?

Sieg.8439

Despite what everyone keeps telling themselves – there ARE tanks in this games, there also are HEALERS. It’s a question of a spec+gear. Full cleric armor/jewelry, mace+shield, honor/valor guardian is a healer/buffer.

Just because a player has support heals/buffs equipped does not make them a healer. For example, in my main guild dungeon group, we really only have one player for heals – my Engi wife. Does dropping a healing turret at the beginning of a fight make her a healer? No! Most of the time, she’s shooting things in the face. Sure, the Ele that sometimes plays with us does have some +HealingPower gear for group heals with Water Attunement, but again, more often than not she’s blowing stuff up with lightning bolts in Air Attunement. That’s not a healer. A healer is someone who sits in the back watching health bars and heals teammates when they get low, and that’s about it. If you try that in this game, you’re going to die.

As for the Tank idea, it’s still not a tank, per se. We have a defensive Warrior who does try to keep the attention of some of the nastier creatures on him, but he doesn’t just sit there and soak damage while the rest of the party smacks the mobs around. He’s still actively running from things, dodging out of the way, etc. while also using some of the +Power buffs to smack around enemies. The way he keeps attention on him is by typically being the closest creature to the nasty mob. But in reality, he ends up getting downed/killed quite often for it. Why? Because he’s not a tank, he’s just good at kiting and has enough defense to be able to shrug off a few mistakes. Again, it’s similar to tanking I guess in that he tries to keep the eyes of the enemies on him, but he has to duck and move as much as we do, and if he doesn’t and tries to plant like a tank, he’s dead in seconds. It’s really not the same.

Hard=intelligent enemies and cool tactics -> good

gw2 instances aren’t in the good bracket of any of this 2 lists

What, the lists that you made to make a point that you don’t like where dungeons are in GW2? That won’t be skewed at all…

What people are missing is that in these dungeons, you have to play smarter. It’s a big adjustment to make from past games in which the formula was spoon fed to us from the moment we rolled, you can’t think of the game on the same terms. So long as you have some measure of Support in your team for when the team needs it, you think and time your skills well, and you prioritize then pile mobs, these dungeons are very doable. Saying something like, “Well, my playstyle is to be a glass cannon and do lots of damage!” is basically just saying, “I wanna play how I wanna play, and if this game tries to make me lose, then it’s bad!”

This isn’t a game where you can just kick the door down. There will be times when you have to take cover behind a column/pile of rubble. There will be many times when you have to watch a boss to see when he’s about to do some nasty attack that just killed your Guardian and dodge role when you see him doing it. They are meant to be hard, and require quick thinking and teamwork to get through. And yes, there will be times when the Warrior will have to sheath his sword and pull out a shot gun. Personally, I think that’s really cool. It keeps my heart pounding, engaged and on the edge of my seat.

The one thing that I will say negatively about the dungeons is that the amount of tokens is, in my opinion, on the weaker side. The amount of time that explorable takes to complete is a little much to only get 25 tokens at the end. To get the pieces that I want from the token armors, I would have to play through the dungeons enough for me to start loathing them, and I never want that to happen.

As for drops, I think I’ve only done one run where I didn’t get something I could use, Story Mode or not. That’s better than I can say for when I played WoW, to be honest. You just have to be in a group where if someone finds a shiny drop they can’t use but you can, you know they’ll give it up instead of just vending. The game is probably called ‘Guild Wars 2’ for a reason other than the lore.

I see this post in every new MMORPG I play, and honestly, I think it does more harm than good. Here’s the thing…

When you consider new features for an MMORPG, one of your deciding factors should never be “Game X did this already, so we can’t.”

WoW has some good features that I think GW2 could really benefit from, like dungeon finder. Why should these features be ignored simply because WoW already has them?

I think this is more in reference to the recent mass of gripe threads along the line of, “I can’t tank/heal, omagawddddd dis is dummmmm”

I’m sure things in similar calibur to something like dungeon finder may come along, and I’m certain ANet didn’t exclude it for the simple reason that WoW has it. I mean, WoW has crafting, single-line classes, races, levels, dungeons, PVP, etc., and we have those things in GW2. They certainly didn’t exclude any real volume of potential features on the sole reason that WoW has them, that would be silly.

I just wouldn’t expect them to completely re-think excluding the holy trinity. I think it was a good decision, and the vast majority of people playing seem to agree.

I think people are having a hard time adjusting, since MMO’s in general have taught us to play a certain way for so long and when we get thrown out of our element, some of us seem to get a little… fussy.
Trust me, it’s something that frustrates me too, but it will get better in time as people either adjust or play something else.

Not that I’ve personally heard of. To be honest, I kind of doubt that this will ever happen, just because of the massive effect it would have on the Personal Story.
