I just realised something. I have yet to see the changed dredge fractal. Haven’t got it even once since the last changes.
Good thing we have a dungeon mentor in the group for me I guess. But even independently from that I’m looking forward to maybe learning a few new things since I’ve only run fractals with basically the same people since the very beginning. Hope that doesn’t disqualify me now.

Edit: I felt like I should clarify something: I’m not looking for a teaching run, I believe I know fractals pretty well – new dredge aside. But you always happen to pick up new stuff from people every now and then.

You can stand inside him and his only attack that will hit you is his single-shot projectile that he does from time to time. I’m surprised it’s been like two years and people still haven’t figured this out, I found that spot after like two days and have been abusing it since.

His projectiles that he shoots when he doesn’t spin are reflectable. Finding that center spot can be a pain though, as messing up can send your face straight to the ground if you’re unlucky.

Also: engi turrets can body block too. Engis do EVERYTHING.

Almost everything. They lack a portal like skill. But given it would be an engineers portal, it would most likely be “slightly unreliable”. (Group member: “Why am I in the middle of a magma field right now?” Engineer: “Just a mild callibration problem.”).

If a team considered this a joke, why would they have bothered to try and get a slot in the initial signup at all, I wonder?
That part doesn’t make any sense at all.
And the original idea wasn’t from DnT. They just took it upon them to organize it for everyone else.
Edit: If I remember correctly.

And if what they do is so trivial, why didn’t you sign up to prove how little skill it requires?

I have absolutely no problem if someone says “this isn’t for me, I have no interest in this” and moves on/ignores it. But your slurs are ot of line.

Imagine pugging CoF path 1. You’re coming up to the part with the fiery balls. Mesmer drops portal, starts to run, blinks to the end, somehow messes up the keys and manages to drop the exit portal right underneath the last fiery ball instead of behind them. Of course, the party doesn’t realise the mistake until they have all ported straight into those balls. Fail.

Now imagine the mesmer is you …

runs off to hide someplace nobody will ever find

Truth be told, I have a friend who did this on purpose. Admittedly though not in a pug but a guildrun.
His portals have never been trusted by anyone since though.

If that’s not what you were going for in the first place, then I apologize for jumping on it and misunderstanding. We’ve had hundreds of threads on that topic, and when another one pops up, it’s quite frustrating.

No, I said that in a hard mode, mobs shouldn’t simply reset like they forgot about you completely. You want to skip them? do it, avoid their aggro range, use invis, teleport, w/e that works better for you. But when I think on a hard mode dungeon, I wouldn’t call it hard if I can just run 10 meters and call it a day (unless there are specific scenarios where you lock a door behind you as one example and you lost the mobs behind you, that would actually help the immersion).

Why do I have premonitions of four people on the safe side on the door and a fifth who didn’t make the run being on the wrong side with all the mobs going “Um, guys…?”?
But honestly I actually like the idea.

It’s not about needing a reflect Franklin, it’s about stealth changes and negating class features/abilities.
I’m used to providing aegis and reflect for my group on my guardian. Especially the groupwide aegis is a core feature of the guardian class. A change like this kills some of the basic features for a guardian. And that’s just one of the more obvious examples.

If the reflects are too strong, maybe allowing those projectiles just to be destroyed instead of reflected might be a solution. If they don’t want to to do that, Jerus’ idea could be a good solution.
And at least, if they still want to go down the current route, they could tag the mobs accordingly. Call the ability “piercing projectiles” or something like that and tag the bosses accordingly.

Blame the Guardian

Silberfisch.3046

I’m sorry but “jars against the rest of my build” in my book in no way justifies “make things needlessly more difficult for my team”.
Even if I am not traited towards a specific encounter (which nowadays is rather easy, only templates would make it easier), I can’t see me not at least adjust my utilities if it will help the group.
I am a big fan of PHYW actually, but making things needlessly difficult if with two mouseklicks I can avoid or lower said difficulties is something that I have trouble understanding.

Edit: What I can relate to actually is being annoyed that people sometimes expect guardians to be a magic defense shield against any and all troubles believing that having one in your group frees you from actually paying attention to your own defensive options (I’m not talking gear here but skills, evades and such).
Don’t get me wrong, a guardian can easily provide a ton of defensive measures, mostly without going too far into special/obscure builds and largely independant of equipment. But they are not the only defensive option in the kitten nal of any given group and you shouldn’t naturally expect that they take all the responsibility for the groups defensive measures.

But the ones they excel at and on top of that are easily provided? I can’t see me not using those in any given encounter for any reason at all. (Unless you have a weird idea like "hey let’s impose our own “broken mirrors” instability and do all this without reflects" or some such notion to artificially raise the challenge of an encounter.)

As for the light armour trousers/skirt problem: I tend to have the same trouble when trying to find medium chest pieces that aren’t longcoats or have some appendage covering at least part of your legs. True, there are some, but the choices are rather limited.

If this were reddit I would probably get more downvotes than there are grains of sand in the sahara, but I actually do think that the gold reward at the end of dungeons does have a negative impact on the economy.
It is however not nearly as simple as that thread suggests, because frankly put anything that gets sold to an npc vendor does have the same effect. So does every event completed and any cash that drops from a mob as well. PvP matches also generate gold this way. And this still isn’t the full picture on the topic, just the mos obvious aspects.
It appears to have a greater impact because the amount of gold per time when doing dungeons seems fairly high compared to the other sources from an individual point of view.
But since we don’t have any numbers to compare the amount of gold generated overall from dungeon rewards compared to the other sources game wide across the entire playerbase, it is difficult for us to make any informed statement or even guess about this.

Tl; dr: dungeon rewards have a negative impact on the economy as they hasten inflation. But so do a lot of other things as well.

Though I’ve been on the receiving end of that practice as well more than once, so far I’ve had more good experiences with almost-guild-groups than bad ones. The bad ones however tend to stick out in recollection.
It can sometimes get a little confusing if they are used to do something a certain way you’re not familiar with and sometimes that can lead to misunderstandings, but there are sadly a few outright black sheep that actually kick you at the end just to give the spot to one of their guildmates.

And I’m just as lost if my party is entirely french or spanish since I speak neither language and there seems to be the same problem about being (more or less) fluent in english.

^Most of this thread.

Judging from these complaints, my guardian (I admit I’m not too experienced) violates just about every rule in the “player” handbook. Terribly sorry I took it to mean “support allies”; what are people like me thinking!?

Um, guardians are top of the line when it comes to support and I don’t think anyone here will argue that.
The main problem would be what you define as support. And if we specify defensive support, that’s even more so the field where guardians excel. Aegis, reflect, condition removal, decent amount of blind, stability, permanent protection if running hammer (and no ele or engi around to go bonkers over the permanent light field or in high level fractals, or if in doubt just pop a firefield yourself for the might stackers so the symbol won’t interfere). All that is defensive support and can and will be done by any good guardian in a dungeon group.
People just sometimes confuse healing with support. Don’t get me wrong, healing is a form of defensive support, but it is by no means the only one. And in a setting like guildwars damage mitigation usually trumps healing after receiving damage.

Straying off topic here… sorry.

What bugs me most is lack of communication. Why do we have a chat if half of the players never seem to read/write in there anyway?

Actually I would use power of inertia as adept major in a 5/6/0/3/0 build, not vigorous recovery.
And I agree that against trashmobs and to stay above the 6 initiative theshold 5/6/0/0/3 would work better, but agains a boss? If you’re using pistol whip to remove defiance or you can time the evade portion of the psitol whip properly it might be easier as well.
But if you are in dagger/dagger mode I think the extra 15 endurance in combination with the endurance refund from wild strike will offer you more suvivability. At least it does in my experience, but maybe that’s just me and it might be personal preference.

Some might want to skin me alive for this advive, but if you are still learning the ropes you can try 5/6/0/3/0 to begin with.
Yes, you lose some damage that way, but the endurance return of the acrobatics master tier minor trait can make a lot of difference as far as staying on your feet is concerned.
Once your comfortable enough, go to 5/6/0/0/3 or 6/6/0/0/2.

conditions new meta?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

I think in theory the higher ticking condition in case of burning or poison should be the one working on the target.

Sadly, theory doesn’t account for much until tested (as much as some people might like to believe).

But I admit that I have absolutely no Idea how this is handled in case of bleed stacks for example. Might be first come first served, might be that stonger bleeds overwrite weaker, might be a combination of both.

I don’t think that stronger bleeds overwrite weaker bleeds. Consider this: If stronger bleeds overwrite weaker bleeds, then if you have a world boss with let’s say 2-3 condi built players attacking it, then what happens when a non-condi specced player puts a bleed on the stack? Does it just not go in? Does it go in, then immediately disappear soon as one of the condi-specced players puts a bleed on the stack?

From observation of world bosses, you can see that even non-condition specced players will usually get a few bleed ticks in. This means they’re hanging out in the stack long enough to get ticked.

I realized to late that you already posted the part about bleed stacks pushing older stacks out and replacing them (was still writing my comment while you posted yours). As I said I don’t know how they actually work and I have never tested it myself to that extreme.

As for the “in theory part” that’s why I wrote “it should”. I used the subjunctive for exactly that reason. I have no empirical value to back this up (though the wiki states the same).

Aside from that: As far as “viable” condition builds are concerned, wouldn’t thief be an option as well? With a dagger/dagger and pistol/dagger combination and the right utilities you gan generate a decent amount of bleed stacks, torment and poison. You do however lack burning, unless you get “lucky” on your steal.

Hmm, may I ask why people usually use the rifle turret as a third utility? If you want the blast finisher for might stacking wouldn’t Throw Mine work as well?
I’m aware that the detonate turret tool belt skill does more damage than the mine, and that the mine might be more prone to “accudentally” going off because a target stepped on it. But couldn’t that be offset by gaining a tool belt skill that can be used in addition to the active utility?
Again I am aware that the minefield usually lands all over the place but that can be at least partially compensated for by good positioning? Or am I overlooking something else entirely?

The same problem applies to the equipment you can buy for badges of honor and a little gold. Except these aren’t even mystic forgable. And those have no warning label either.
Another problem with the “can’t salvage” under the new transmutation system is, that if you put an expensive rune into one of those armor pieces, you’ll need the extractor from the gemshop to get it back.
Usually it’s cheaper (speaking only in ingame currency terms here) to simply buy the runes again from the TP, but if you put strength runes into those armor pieces for example, you’re caught between a rock an a hard place in terms of gold loss.

So yes a lable “not salvageable” and another “impossible to use in the mystic forge” would be rather helpful.

Mhmm. Even if some drop (which sometimes even persistence won’t help you with if you are unlucky), then the rng strikes and you get 4 longbows, 4 maces and 3 tridents. Which under the new wardrobe systems only means a free transmute charge for said skin and not even a chance to unlock a new one.
So maybe at least an option to trade in multiple/unwanted skins for those you haven’t already or you are actually trying to get would be nice.

And for the record, I am in favour of the “pristine relics for skins” option as well. Make them expensive if you wish, but make them something you can work towards.

I rather opt to go lvl 30 or some such. Simply because it’s way faster than the alternative.

Unless someone from my guild/FL specifically asks for 50 because they already have the lower tiers done or are still increasing their personal reward level. Simply not worth the effort in my book anymore.

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

I get the problem from a newbie standpoint or for someone like Koe.

More often than not a group with no description in the lfg tool other than the path will most likey attempt a quick run (notice: quick, not an actual speedrun, there is a difference). That will mean some skipping/stacking because those speed things up and in some dungeons like AC for example where you will meet most new players in theory, the skips aren’t too difficult and stacking usually works rather well.
Especially if you have one or more players in the group who know the ins and outs and can carry the rest.
And a newbie or someone who is out of the loop most likely won’t think about tagging his own lfg or expect this pattern in a nondescript group. If they are smart they will stay away from the xperienced tags, but the nondescript?

Which makes it all the more important for the more experienced to label their groups properly. But I admit I am guilty of that “nondescript group because default appears to be quick run” failure myself especially when it comes to the easier farm paths.
I might add that I have no problem with some low level characters joining my nondescript groups. And I also have no problem if someone says they want to watch the cutscenes. After all, I didn’t label my group accordingly.
As I said I assume that “quick run” is the default due to empirical value, but I like to think that I am aware that I offer a free for all with a nondescript lfg tag.

The EotM train is a terrifying thing to behold imho. It’s champtrain 2.0 and nothing else.
Unless you crash into another zerg. But even then it usually becomes clear pretty quickly which side has the upper hand and then the weaker will do their best to avoid further confrontations.
It also makes the “mist runner” title of the Season 2 meta achievement shine in an entirely different light. shudders

Berserker versus "Zerker"

Actually, if you started to use the “correct” term, it might also help clarify that “berserker” is a set of statistics for equipment and not a “playstyle” or a build.
Something that seems to cause quite a bit of confuzzlement every now and then. (Thanks for that word again, Lilith, btw.)

I just realised that I might qualify as a Lilith-fanboy. Is that a bad thing?

Honestly, even if don’t have the option to reroll or acess to specific classes, that room is nevertheless doable.
Is ist more difficult? Hell yes. Is it impossible? By all means, no.

It’s already been pointed out. Kill some of the mobs but not all, have someone kite the remaining. The kiter might be in for some fun time depending on what kind of dredge they have to kite, but that can actually be influenced by what you leave alive and what dies before that stage.
I’ve done the kiting part a couple of times myself before I had a thief to reroll for that part.

And honestly: Fractals are supposed to be our challenging PvE endgame, especially on higher levels.
If you ask for them to be done “easily with any party”, Mike, your looking at the wrong content in that case.

Edit: I seem to use the word “honestly” to often. My apologies.
