First off all, thank you for your effort and making those videos.

Second, I have a question:
Do you think the engineer one could probably be shorter/easier after the 14th if one of them employs the new turret trait for reflects? It would certainly be more predictable, but I’m not sure if that would compensate for the damage loss if someone went deep into inventions in a speedkill setup like this.
I am aware that a direct comparison postpatch with a changed setup isn’t possible due to the changes in runes and crit dmg multiplier. And it is highly unlikely that I will ever be in a position to try something like this myself, so I’m mostly asking for an educated opinion from you here out of curiosity.

No 39 fractal chest after doing 49?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

It is useful because it means that the 49 chest counted as your 31-40 because the highest reward tier you can access is 31-40 if your personal max level falls in the 31-40 tier.
So you have basically done 2 31-40 fractals as far as your personal reward level is concerned.
Until you get your personal level to 41+ you won’t see that second chest.

Edit: Rephrased to make it better understandable. I hope.

Yesterday I had an ele say that the class has no blast finishers.

Is there any weapon combination for an ele that doesn’t have at least one blast finisher? No matter what I try, there’s at least one in there.

sigh Why can’t people communicate or at least read?

I had someone obviously new to CoF p1 in my pug. I don’t have a problem with that since the lfg wasn’t tagged as anything other than “p1”.
What I do have a problem with is him not reading the chat after it became obvious he had no idea that you have to place a single character at each of the braziers at the gate controller. He kept following one of the other players so that there were always 2 characters in the same place.
I don’t know if he didn’t understand english (he was from a french server) or didn’t look at the chat at all. Either way after a few minutes of him blocking us from going further he just went offline. We waited for a few minutes more but he didn’t show up again so we went and got a replacement.
I like to think we were reasonable enough in our approach, though I have to admit one of the other players was rather impolite with his choice of words. Not outright rude or abusive, but clearly more impatient than the rest of us.

I know this isn’t a singular experience and most of us have seen this more than once, but this is one of the things that still get to me.
If I’m new to something, why would I ignore the chat? Hell, I usually warn people if I don’t have experience with the path/event/whatever but that’s just my personal choice.
And if I don’t understand the language I at least try to tell them, that I don’t understand them. I don’t speak french but I know enough about the language to understand if someone tries to tell me they don’t speak english.

Of course there is the possibility he was just trying to grief/annoy us. You never know with some people what tickles their fancy.
I need a drink.

Stop dungeon/fractal control by the opener

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

In the case of Fractals it would need to revamp the whole entrance system and change it to the smallest PR level instead of the current highest PR available.
If this opener requirement is gone, that way it could be exploited. Ask a friend with personal level 50 to open and enter the instance. After that he / she can leave and you have a lvl50 fractal opened, even if you aren’t even close to that PR lvl.

However i agree, this whole dungeon host system needs to be looked at.

You are aware that something similar was possible already before the fractured update? You invited someonw with a high level into the group, opened your fractal instance while he was in the same zone, he left, you could continue to do the higher level even if no one in the group had a character that high.
Currently I’ve heard from others that the fractal level snaps back to the highest personal level still present if the level-crutch provider leaves the group. Can’t confirm that myself though because it was never an issue for me. So take that with a grain of salt please.

Oh and just for the record, yes, we need an overhaul of the dungeon owner system and the votekick system. Badly.
But if we want to be cynical, the past has shown that this is unlikely to happen until there is a new living story instance where these two things becomes an issue.
Not being so cynical: it ight be trickier to change this than we think. I don’t know anything about the coding of these aspects of the game and how much of an effort to change those ist might be.

Still, doesn’t change that an overhaul is rather necessary.

To end finisher gimmicks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

If I recall correctly, it was for this reason (or partly this reason) that the thief sword skill 3 was changed. The return now takes a full 1/2 second to cast, where it used to be instantaneous. One of the reasons cited by Karl (maybe it was Roy) during the live stream where they talked about these changes was being able to pop in, initiate a stomp and pop back out with 0 risk to the stomper. They wanted to change that; I would not be surprised if we saw tweaks to other such skills in regards to stomps in the future.

I don’t think that’s entirely necessary.
I get the change to the sword skill of the thief because that thing has virtually no cooldown (or very little, if you take initiative regeneration into account). Any other form of shodowstep/teleport mechanic has a longer cooldown. So, as I said, I don’t see the problem with those to be that extreme.

15-20 Legendary Armors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Silberfisch.3046

Unless the legenday armor ist a boxed set containing all 6 pieces.
Or given the new “outfits” (what some town clothes get converted to) like the pirate captain’s outfit. They could go that way. Although that might be trickier to implement because outfits under the new wardrobe-system are only a skinset that overwrite your appearance and don’t carry any stat-values. (If I understood the concept correctly.) And I can’t see many people going through the trouble of creating a legendary armour uf they don’t get a BIS item (or a set of those) in the process aside from the skin as well.

Stacking and skipping, kills the dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Silberfisch.3046

Silberfisch.3046

So to answer your query, yes, dungeons are a hot mess. Yes, Anet kind-of approved stacking, and no, they will not fix it in the immediate future. Sad as it is, just make your own group in the LFG system and ask for no stacking/skipping. You may have to wait a while though, most people are so used to stacking, they cant play the game any other way now.

Though I am a member of the “playing how you want and just look for like minded people”-fraction as well and I certainly support your suggestion into that direction, I would like to argue your last point.

He will have to wait a little longer, yes, but that won’t be due to the fact that people are “so used to stacking, they can’t play the game any other way now”. He will have to wait longer because “no spipping/stacking” means the run will take more time than one that employs skipping and stacking techniques and time is a very valuable commodity these days.

I’ll refrain from the “skipping and stacking actually in a lot of cases requires more skill if done properly” argumentation because that will get us nowhere as previous threads have shown.

Ranged-Only class

Silberfisch.3046

As far as the suggestions go, I would like to support the ideas of engineers and staff elementalists.
Both perform rather well compared to other ranged only options.
Keep in mind though, that if you encounter any form of projectile reflection, you’re out of order until the effect fades off.

And enigneers don’t suck per se, but playing an engineer effectively requires way more micromanagement than with other professions and you usually have to go through a number off button presses to achieve something many other professions can do by simply pressing one button.
Still if that is your thing, they are indeed fun to play.

That’s not so much in the future anymore as you would think. I already see a lot of lfg tags with the “open” tag or “need opener” right now.
Originally I would have thought the “need opener” referred to no one having the story done but it turns out in more and more cases it means “someone who hasn’t used up all his guest keys and can get us in there by visiting a server where it’s open”.

Do people just not like making LFGs? If I look on the LFG there is often no one for many of the paths. If I add an LFG I can usually get a group fairly shortly. :/

There are 2 reasons you don’t see that many lfg for certain paths.

1) Some paths are extremely unpopular because they are annoying/long/not worth the effort/pick your poison.

2) A lot of the lfg entries fill up almost instantaneously. Thats why you won’t see them at all unless you spam the refresh button.

Your thoughts on "Skipping".

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Silberfisch.3046

Since you brought up other MMORPGs. I played a large number of those myself. And in most cases, yes, you couldn’t skip most of the trash. But after you were familiar with the dungeon and itemization struck in in most of those games is was customary to just pull the trashmobs into a ball and AoE nuke them to kingdom come. Very often using LoS and similar simple methods to do multiple groups at once.
In addition you could brute force a lot of the bosses if your setup was right.
GW2 doesn’t have that kind of item spiral, but is has active defenses to offset that. In addition the defensive build and gear options of the existing gear in gw2 very often allow to do something similar without even having to bother overly much with active defense.

Skipping and what I described above from other MMORPGs are simply the next step if content moves from new to farm status.

I know a fix. Delete your sylvari and make a human, play the game as it is intented to play. Screw all those asura, norn, sylvari and charr bugusers who have all their weapons bug into their armor.

Truth be told, If I had known what the human light T3 looks like at the time I created my little ele, she would have become a human. Some parts of that set basically scream “Archmage”, especially the shoulders.
That’s what you get for spontaneously deciding on your race instead of checking the looks on all races beforehand.
But I’m not going to create a new character just for that. I love my little flower anyway.

So what will happen with the gathering nodes, like orichalcum and ancient wood?
Since there wont be main server anymore, the nodes will change each time we login with a different character?

Sadly, gathering will become much much much more tedious. No more node charts either. I expect prices of Ori / ancient wood to go up ridiculously high once / if this is implemented in lvl15+ maps.

My concern: zerg fest everywhere. Please tell me this won’t be the case… or I need a new game.

Yup, that will indeed sadly be the case. Hence the +225% increased population. Which is fine for bigger stuff, but Behemoth will go down before you can press 1.

I’d be careful with that +225%. That’s an overall number and as such it is greatly influenced by maps that see little to no traffic right now.
For Maps that already see a lot of traffic the increase will be much lower.

Other than that however I have to agree with you. Especially since a lot of the smaller mega-events now happen less often. this wil lead to a drastical increase in visitors. until now for something like the Mark II Golem the players were spread out among a lot of opportunities to do that event. Now there are rather few times left in comparison, when you can go there. (Granted the Mark II is a rather extreme example, but it drives home the point I think.)

Another problem I have is the acquisition of Obsidian shards. Under the current system, If you wish to acquire obsidian shards via karma from the temple of balthazar, you can just check on which world it is currently open and guest there to shop.
With the new system that option is gone entirely. You can only hop onto the map. check if its open, and if not try again later/another day. With this it might take a very long time to find an open temple.
I would suggest to everyone to load up on shards before the new system goes live. Thankfully, only the low level maps will be affected for now, so there’s enough time to do so.

I know its a longshot but after another hour of colour previews, I’m almost game for anything.
Does anyone know any red (orange or whatever really) dye that doesn’t turn violet on the tips and some parts of sylvari female T2 armor?
Edit: Sorry, forgot to mention: light armor. Thanks, Taku. Might as well add in that I’m talking about the torso and leg armor parts.
It’s virtually impossible to get the larger parts to be bright red when using red dyes. They always turn out violet.
I want a red flower. There are enough shades of violet and purple in the game. No reason to have the red colours turn violet as well. sigh
I know that in some cases you have to go for yellows for example if you want a light brown in the end and similar, so if anyone has any help for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Prepare for ignorance!!!

I don’t understand exactly how this system is going to work. I’m on Sorrow’s Furnace. Under this new system if I go to wayfarer’s will I still be in Sorrow’s Furnace? If everything is like an overflow, what’s the point of servers? I feel like I’m seriously misunderstanding what the heck is going on.

Basically, no, you are in the wayfarer foothills. As you said, the zones as a whole are turned into something similar to the old overflow shards.
The system should in theory group you mostly with people from your homeserver (in addition to the other mentioned parameters).
I guess WvW and the parameters into which shard you are put under the system are the only things that are affected by your home server. Though I could be wrong about the WvW aspect. That’s going to be adressed in detail during the next 2 blog entries.

I would like the aforementioned “playstyle-flags” to be added. (Obviously not on the 14th, that quick an implementation would be impossible, I guess). An option to shift your preferences of what you want to do towards a certain playstyle as long as you use that flag.

The so far introduced “smart system” that analyzes your playstyle would more hurt than help someone who goes through “phases” of what they are doing.
An example: Some people I know only do open world megaevents if they feel the need for another dragonite farming rush. During that phase they do them a lot. Otherwise they don’t do them at all. Based on the time the system uses to determine your favourite playstyle, they might get grouped with people who do them on a regular basis. Even if they don’t actually share that particular interest.

It would also help people who are a bit undecided or who enjoy all modes of gaming to be allocated more precisely with people that intend to do what they are currently attempting to try out/do.

The idea of an RP-flag has been brought up multiple times, but I think you could and should expand that idea beyond the RP/non-RP communities.
Other flags I can think of are “just exploring” or “map completion”, “organized spvp” (for arenateams), “Mega-Events” or “normal events” and even (though I personally dread the idea) “champtrain” or to be more openminded “farming stuff” (this could include ore nodes and wood for example). And of course “free mode” with no assigned preferences at all.
Feel free do add more as you please and consider applicable (and use better names than I did).

It would be of interest how much the preferred “language” is weighted and how it is determined.
Simply from my choice of language in the launcher, from my account information/billing adress or will we be able to pick one?
Because at least in my case the language selected in the launcher (and thus ingame) differs from my native language which is also selectable. I use the english client because I dislike some of the translations and the voice actors in my native language.
Granted I wouldn’t use the english language for the game if had major difficulties with it, so communication with other players in general isn’t my concern. But a lot of my friendslist and guildmates use my native language as their basic setting.

So I would like to know how much of an impact my choice of language will have. And wether we will be able to pick our preffered language independently from our game settings or how it will be determined.

Technically I would have no problem if they gave dragonite to optional bosses in dungeons, but I have to state that your suggested amounts are way too high. I think 25 would be plentiful and the abbsolute maximum they should hand out in those cases.

However I think I would like Dakota’s Idea better.

Does http://www.techweb.com/ work for you?

Yup, that link works just fine.

Then no idea, sorry (some routers block IPs starting with 192).

Have you tried ping or tracert gw2dungeons.net?

I did a tracert for www.gw2dungeons.net. I get a request timeout (I think that’s the corresponding english message) directly after my router.
I checked the router for blocked IPs but found nothing. Weird.

Anyway thanks for trying to help. Much appreciated.

I have to ask something: I have on multiple occasions tried to access gw2dungeons.net and I consistently get a connectiond failed error message.
Is there something I’m not aware of when it comes to accessing the site? Or do I simply have perfect timing to ever and always hit downtime/maintenance/whatever when I try?

Edit: Getting the error right now for example.

But I think this system is to some degree still pointed at people who don’t change their looks often. Because it takes away the edge off of either loosing expensive stats on an ascended piece of equipment or loosing an expensive skin like infinite light when they wish to switch to something else.

And that’s the inherent flaw in its design, the main purpose of an in-game wardrobe is to facilitate changing your look freely, and often.

My Bad. I should have worded that differently. That’s what you get for not being a native english speaker in an english forum I guess.
What I wanted to say is: I don’t think a wardrobe should only be for people that change often but for the kind of people I described as well.
In a scenario where the unlock is the same cost as a single change, that would be the case, but if we are talking unlocks being more expensive it simply isn’t.

And as I stated I can’t see that particular nugget happening because that would definitely cut their revenue.

While I can understand why people who switch their looks very often would prefer a charge to unlock model, I think they are overlooking 2 aspects when they try to argue why the charge to unlock would give a larger revenue for the company:

1) Long term investment. The charge to unlock would most likely give them a massive spike in their revenue after the release of the feature. But once everyone is done with their unlocks? Apart from new players or the occasionally added new skin to hunt down their revenue from this aspect would flatline.
The system they chose to go with allows for a long term revenue. Sure we can’t predict the exact lifetime of the game, but I dare predict that this long term revenue will exceed any possible spike the charge to unlock system will generate.

2) Inhibition threshold. Anyone who just wants to alter their look less often will be hard pressed to go for the increased charge to unlock because it would require the equivalent of let’s say 30 trasnmutation just to change your look once. (The example uses 5 charges to unlock and is for a full set of 6 armour pieces. In case it is unclear how I got to the 30 transmutations.)
That is a considerably larger amount of gold/money to invest than 6 charges. So someone who has found a new look and isn’t into changing it very often will certainly be much happier with the charge to change system up to the point where someone like that might decide “It’s not worth all that.” and keep their current looks. Thus making zero revenue compared to the smaller revenue they will get if he has the option to just go with 6 charges.

The additional problem we have is that none of us have numbers on the mindset of the larger playerbase. Both sides argue that “everyone they have spoken to” likes their version better. Both sides argue that the other side might be just a “vocal minority”. But neither of us has actual numbers to back that up especially compared to the number of actually existing players and what their behaviour might entail.
Because how large o a portion of the playerbase have you actually spoken to? And in addition: Isn’t it likely that most people you talk about this will agree with you because you are most likely to discuss something like this with the people you usually play with? People with an alike mindset to yours? So of course in your gaming circle you will find mostly people who agree to your particular point of view.
Those two aspects somewhat diminish the actual value of those statements.

1st of all the shouldnt charge more for a permant unlock than a change, the cost is already to prohibitive to be worth it. It costs more for like 60% of the gear to transmute it than to obtain it. For dunegon armor, its currently almost even in earnings per run, and even for most upper mid tier items it is 20-50% of the cost of item.
long term they lose very little, because unlock only loses money on people going back to old looks.

2nd of all if the charge is the same cost as change, in the long term they still will make more money.

in an unlock system any NEW change generates the same revenue as in a change system

the fact is with a cost to return to look being so great, people dont return to looks. They either get a set of items to hold a new look, or they simply dont bother.

So they are trading the very minimal long term gains of multiple returns to one look, versus the much greater gains of people essentially buying a transmutation for every piece of gear they like even a little bit, in gemstore OR in game.

They have already tried the cost per change system, and i think almost everyone here knows, they dont change their look back to an old look just about ever. Even though they are lowering the cost (by not destroying items) its still way too expensive for a per change charge to encourage collection and incentivize.

Perhaps if they lower the costs of transmutation crystals greatly, then people may feel like its an ignorable cost, and over time they make more money, but with current costs i dont see that happening.

I think you are sill overlooking 2 aspects.

1) Yes Every NEW unlock is the same as a charge to change. But even with new skins every now and then, it is a finite number of charges. Charge for Change is not a finite number of charges.

2 (and possibly minor)) You are forgetting alts. Every unlock means I have that skin for any and all of my characters. In a charge for chage system you can still make money of alts. In a charge to unlock system all that is lost.
Unless you are advocating unlocks to be character based and not account based. But I don’t think so.

Re: 1) A ‘charge to unlock. system still allows long term revenue. It would take the average player months to collect just the skins they want. Then you have to take into account players rolling alts, maybe they’d want completely different looks for them too and hunt down new skins. In addition, there’s new weapon skins released just about every month and armour every 8 – 12 weeks (rough estimate)

Re: 2) I disagree with this as well, players who don’t wish to change their looks often aren’t the target of this system anyway. They can still use the limited transmutation charge if they want, while players who would spend the extra for an unlock appear to be losing out because it isn’t offered.

Based on the previews though, I think unlockable cosmetic tabs would be an ideal solution to this.

Re 1) I think hunting down the skins wouldn’t take that long, especially since quite a few people already have the skins they really want.
Investing gold/money to unlock those, that might take time, I have to agree. But that soley depends on how much people can/are willing to spend. Still that is a finite amount of revenue, because once unlocked, it’s over. Charge to change isn’t a finite concept.
And I don’t think the comparatively small amount of new skins added that would require charge to unlock are competitive with the continous charges to change in terms of revenue.
Although I’m currently falling into the same trap that I tried to point out in the second part of my entry. None of us have actual numbers to support our theories.

Re 2) That would advocate both systems to be used parallelly (that word sounds weird…). With that notion I would have no problem at all.
But I think this system is to some degree still pointed at people who don’t change their looks often. Because it takes away the edge off of either loosing expensive stats on an ascended piece of equipment or loosing an expensive skin like infinite light when they wish to switch to something else.

And after the new changes I’m going to make a brand new level one character, transmute all her weapons to ascended skins and dye her armor abyss, celestial and pyre. Just because I can.

Things I’m hoping for but I understand it might not be happening:

During character creation, access wardrobe and dyes. How amazing would that be?

I would be really happy if they would at least allow to use colours you’ve obtained for the hair accessories when using a hair style or makeover kit. the few colours allowed for those are simply not enough.

Ok, I have to admit, this is pretty great. With this I no longer have to consider wether it’s worth to buy ascended trinkets for a character or not, because even if I don’t use them very often, who cares, some other character will surely be able to use it.
