I can pretty much sum it up for you, since I talked to quite a few regular scouts.
The squad leader/commander (actually the entire squad) can see the scout’s location. The squad leader/commander can decide to tell you not to scout and to get on pin. The squad leader can choose to micromanage exactly what you are doing.
I’ve seen a few instances so far where the scouts have been screamed at and called out for not coming to the pin. And (this is just MY opinion), most “pro” scouts know what they are doing, and why, and don’t like to be micromanaged. And I don’t blame them.
I’d like to see the bundles split up. There are a few things I’d buy, but I refuse to buy a bundle for a higher price and get things I don’t want.
I’d also like to see outfits in separate pieces so we can mix and match. We can dye separate parts, why can’t we just have separate parts?
I’d like to see some wardrobe diversity.
While I applaud ANET for being more forward about the future of WvW, I don’t like the fact we’re only given two choices. Even more so that the controversial topic of nightcapping is one of the items on the list. As someone who cares about the WvW score I can’t vote on this option because I don’t believe in reducing the rewards of nightcapping. The other option also has many items such as WvW gain graphics that are unnecessary to me.
Please give us a list of options and let us check what we want and not want rather than choosing one group than annother.
Yep. This poll is an either/or, and really the only lesser of two evils is the QoL option, which I can’t in all good conscience vote for, since I and others have said, there are other things that can and should be done.
I’m really not sure what to think about the QoL options. They’re not really necessary, are they? Right now? I’d rather see how Alpine turns out. I’d rather know that enemy players can’t glitch into keeps and towers anymore. I’d rather see skill balancing, separate from PvE. There are TONS of other things that should be at the top of the list right now. Just a glance through the first three pages of threads’ titles show a lot of topics that haven’t even been addressed.
I’m so SO glad that WvW is getting some attention now, I truly am. But let’s get it back on track to the absolute greatness that it was at the beginning, instead of switching it up with a bunch of new bells and whistles right now.
The “Scoring Improvements.” Just pass out participation trophies and be done with it, because seriously, that’s what it’s starting to look like. Or just give an underdog server a 100k score advantage right off the bat. I mean, that’s what it’s coming to, pretty much.
I guess I’m just questioning priorities at the moment. WvW is “competitive.” Can we not turn it into a carebear fest?
I get that people in stale matchups are sick of losing. But it has been said again and again and again, there is an option to transfer. It’s not cool to penalize the rest of us that have built good strategic communities and guilds on successful servers by adjusting the scoring system to accommodate other servers, and people clinging to dead servers in the hope that you’ll magically drop some new people into their servers with a sprinkling of fairy dust.
The best way to adjust things (and it’s been said before) is to let the servers balance themselves out in their natural state. Guilds move, servers rise, servers fall. That’s the unpredictability that has made WvW great, so far.

Some servers (TC, BG, YB, etc) have looong queues because of the short sighted stacking that many guilds have done. Now the merger / reset has started and they are reaping their rewards… multi-hour queues.
It’s your own fault for not seeing the consequences of your actions. And on top of that, you helped ruin the experience for people who didn’t ask for you to transfer.
Have fun in your pvqueue.
For one thing, it’s not as bad as you make it sound, lol.
For another, reset night is always like that, and often all the way through Monday.
And for another nother, we have returning players, and some “newness” curiosity going on.

Howdy
For me as a wvw-only-player loot is pretty much a necessary nuisance (except for ascended armor / weapon chests). There is nothing i will use, everything gets sold. Lots of clicking and playing the TP – only to get the few gold i need to keep up with sieges / buff food. Its not something i generally enjoy (except for selling the odd exo drop).
Imo you could pretty much scratch the whole drop system down to getting exos, ascendeds, badges and gold. all the rest is just a waste of time for a wvw-player.
In this light:
I dont like all the clicking that comes with reward tracks. autoloot was a step forward, opening 2-3 chests every 10 minutes is not, and then there are even chests in chests and stuff… its work. And all the greys, whites, blues, greens.. they serve no purpose for me except eating up my nerves to get rid of them.
The Anet-Dogma “there can never be enough treasure” has always been wrong. I need a milion gold, not a milion blues.

There are dozens of threads from the beginning of WvW that detail the suffering that happened while waiting for rankings to sort themselves out. Whatever problems we have now, a reset would surely make them worse.

Most of those “salty bad guilds” are from BG.
JQ bads got a heads up from someone running their mouth about the update, they xfered off based on that. Arena Net devs need to stop going into special snowflake teamspeaks, you never know who is in your TS/Discord ect and listening.
This game is already going down hill and dying, last thing we need is BS like this.
If you were “in the loop” like most of the rest of us, you’d know that the inside scoop went to someone on BG first.
I have heard, that this used to be the case before mega-server, where WvW affected PvE. I can honestly say, I would not want them mixed, I mean can you imagine how upset WvW players would be, if let say, The PvE players failed to kill to Shatter, and thus we take a negative for that?
I don’t feel mixing the two is a good idea. I would much rather see more WvW stuff being given to WvW players, to make WvW profitable and fun.

So does this just give you 99 once or is it everytime you enter and use it, it gives you the 99 lives? I never really played SAB the last time so I don’t know how any of these coins work or if there’s a limit to how many you can use etc.

That might require some tweaking to the current WvW guild upgrades.
And if the guild structure was tweaked, we might get some of our solo/small guild scouts and defenders back.

I agree with what other people said. Of course it’s going to lean toward “no” at the moment because of the recent announcement.
I’m sick of seeing these polls.
The week without contest swords in T1 (TC/JQ/BG). All three servers had EVERYONE on.
Up until 3 p.m. on Friday (or right around that hour), we all crunched the numbers and any of the servers could have won. We were all within 1k or less of each other.
It was a hot mess. It was chaotic. It was stressful.
And most of all… it was a blast.
Sorry for my bluntness on a few points, but this is my opinion, and the opinion of a lot of my friends that left the game.
I do agree with others, the lack of communication is severely offputting, and doesn’t inspire consumer confidence. Not to be kitteny, just pointing out fact, it’s mostly been this way since launch for WvW.
The BIG issue isn’t so much about Alpine returning because we miss it, but rather, getting it rotated in so that y’all can fix Desert BL. I don’t think those of us that are still playing want any more surprises. No offense. We’d just rather have something vanilla, old and reliable while the fix is going on.
Hopefully right now, y’all are working on that “switch,” so that Desert can be worked on and we can maybe have (maybe?) future BLs rotated in to alleviate scenery boredom.
Everything now is a tangled mess, intertwined. I don’t see how Alpine will be rotated back in without the gizmos and gimmicks.
Speaking of gizmos and gimmicks – the “new” HoT guilds.
A lot of small guilds and solo scout/defenders had their WvW worlds ripped apart when the “new” guilds came out, and every upgrade they had, or worked for, pretty much deleted and was all for nothing (this also affected me and my guild sieges in my personal guild).
Of course those of us that spoke out got gang stalked by fanboys telling us to suck it up and join a REAL guild, that GW2 wasn’t meant for 1-2 people in a guild, blah blah blah. If that were the case, then GW2 would have had a minimum membership requirement, no?
And, thus, we lost our well over 80% of our reliable scouts/defenders, which really sucks. REALLY. Sucks.
Also, I’m noticing commanders asking for monetary donations to keep up the costs of these super expensive new bells and whistles. I, and others, just don’t understand why we suddenly have airships, and invisibility cloaks, banners, shield generators, etc. We never needed them before. And they’re really not economical at all in our game mode. Our drops are TERRIBLE in WvW.
It would also be nice to know if that dumb “alliance” or “faction” idea is off the table. It was bad enough that WvW was completely turned upside down with the expansion, but it got even worse when a dev leaked this to a T1 guild leader, who then leaked it to others. A lot of people left because of that bit of news as well.
tl;dr
A lot of things went sideways with the expansion. Things that we didn’t ask for, or anticipate, and some things WvW players don’t want.
Please keep open communication with those of us that love the game and the WvW game mode, so that maybe we can get some people back from BDO (or wherever they went) and back into the game.
I’m sure I can speak for everyone in saying that the communication level currently is much better than what we’ve had. And thanks!
Please don’t toss something like this at us and then just leave us hanging. It looks like a stall tactic when nothing is done at a certain point and communication stops.

Okay so now we know it will be available to everyone. This is definitely better than last time.
And it’s going to be a cluster***k when everyone starts giving input.
While I do think everyone has a right to their opinion. I also think that people with a minimum certain rank, or with a minimum certain number of hours, should have priority voice over those that do not regarding the direction WvW goes.
And I don’t mean time spent in EotM either.
Additional concern: What is this “feature” and are we going to be back in the same boat with yet another “something” that we didn’t ask for.
A vertical map.
This I can understand. A too vertical map can be very frustrating to take yourself around, and make you miss a lot of the fight or defending a place because you have to run around the bit mountain wall to find a place somewhere to ascend.
Jump pads.
I don’t find this that bad, but I can understand if it becomes an annoying gimmick.
Pop up rocks to face plant into (seriously wtf)
I can understand this.
Sandstorms
The permanent stealth can be rather annoying.
Shrines for gizmos and gimmicks
Don’t find this too bad, especially the speed increasing ones. It gives good reason to want them, flip them, take them back whenever to get faster around the map.
Changes to NPCs (lords and champs)
This I don’t understand. I know WvW players doesn’t want to do too much PvE, but seriously, having absolutely dumb NPC’s doing nothing? WvW players aren’t that mind numbing boring. A little bit of a challenge (not more HP, but just a more active fight) is not wrong.
If you take EVERYTHING away, it just becomes the usual, boring, karma train with flips.
The horrendous nostalgia about Alpine Borderlands just clouds it for people. WvW players started to NEGLECT Alpine Borderlands because it was getting boring. Less and less players started to join the map.
Sure, I want it back, but I rather want ArenaNet to fix the map layout on Desert Borderlands, just making it easier to get around and remove some of the gimmicks.
There’s no need to scrap it.

My reply was in harmony with the fact that most of us were bored with Alpine. So your statement about “horrendous nostalgia” is dead WRONG. I seems like you are contextually missing some key points being made by the majority of veteran wvw players.
So let me say it again. Someone said we were bored with Alpine. I agreed, and also elaborated by saying that we did NOT ask for a gimmicky new map.
Now here’s where you kinda went sideways, but that’s my fault for not elaborating even further.
I, as in me, as in my opinion (which has been stated in multiple other threads, including the current “big 5” one), is this:
I did not say scrap DBL. Right now (you should be aware of this already), the devs have no way to “switch” maps. So, if you are following the “big 5” thread, you already know that they are going to be making a decision soon.
If the devs code the “switch” first (instead of “fixing” DBL), then everyone is happy. We have Alpine for awhile, “WHILE” they work on DBL.
Now do you see?
Like I said, my fault for not elaborating. I am not “horrendously nostalgic” for ABL. I would love for there to be eventually 3 BLs to avoid boredom.
But the devs have to get the “switch” code in first.

Again, this is something that is 100% moot unless and until the devs figure out a way to switch the maps, which as I already said, at the current time, they cannot, per Mike O’Brien’s statement in the big thread.

There is nothing wrong with the DBL’s that a few tweaks here and there would help.

Let’s not forget the Oasis event fiasco and how long it took to get it turned off. Good Grenth, we lagged out, or froze, or had about 2 FPS during that event. Horrible. Just horrible.
AND
Last but not least (and VERY important): guild upgrade changes (including new, expensive crap that commanders from even the bigger guilds are now asking donations for) that ended up completely screwing over our small personal and small havoc WvW guilds. So the alienation of solo roamers, upgrader/scouts, and small havocs. Bad, bad stuff.
Lastly, Alpine didn’t feel like a gynormous fractal. DBL does. It’s just reeks of a PvE. And I think most of us can agree. If we wanted PvE, we’d leave the Mists and go PvE.
It’s real simple, and we don’t need 50,000 threads similar to this.
Let’s fix the basic shzz first, mkay? Then we can later on down the road decided the other stuff.
By making this thread instead of adding your thoughts into the other bigger thread, you’re just really not offering anything constructive at all. In fact, it’s probably confusing a lot of people just now returning to the forums to get information, now that the devs are back in the conversations.
Did see Mike O’Brien’s post within the big 5 top priorities? It seems like you missed it. He did say that as of this moment, there’s no way to “rotate” any maps.
So, the first order of business that makes any sense is for the devs to get the “switch maps” up and running. THEN that buys them time to work on DBL.

I never said it did. It is possible that thousands log in and never capture anything. The only activity I’m measuring is capture volume. Not sure why that upsets you.
Considering that he replied after you said “PPT activity implies fights”, I agree with him.

How about let’s just get Alpine back for now, until something else is reworked for DBL. We’ve already beaten this horse dead.
Focus on getting Alpine back first, and getting WvW back into shape. Worry about DBL later.

Here’s my final feedback before the two days are up!!!
Regarding skill balancing, it would be helpful to finally have it separated from the other two game modes and THEN have a skill balance. Otherwise we’ll have issues with one game mode or another again. The other two game modes are nothing like WvW, so we do need a separate identity.
Stability. For the love of Dwayna, yes please. No doubt, this goes hand in hand with my previous paragraph.
Couldn’t care less about scoring right now. It’s functional-ish while other, more important things get resolved.
Couldn’t care less about rewards at the moment either. We’ve been the red-headed stepchildren for over three years now, and we can wait a bit longer for functionality to be in place before some kind of new achievement point/reward track gets thrown in. Unless rewards means a better drop rate, then naw, it can wait.
Speaking of which… O.O
Where in the heck is OUR auto-loot? Lots of people are using macros, which I’ve not done yet, and don’t want to. Oh, and please don’t make that a new “reward track.” Most of us already did it in pve because we were told it would be usable in WvW. :*(
There’s only one reason why I say scrap Desert BL for now. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful map, truly. But correct me if I’m wrong, wouldn’t it be easier to switch back to Alpine for the time being? There’s way too much dysfunction with Desert atm.
Two birds, one stone, y’all work out how to switch back to Alpine, then there’s no issue switching again at a later date when Desert BL 1.1 is nice and bells/whistles/gizmo/gimmick-free and ready to ship.
Regarding population balance/imbalance. Here is something one of my friends said in our GW2 Facebook group (shameless plug, group link is in my signature) about this thread in particular:
“It’s kinda hard to design maps that discourage zerging while still allowing zergs, to spread population evenly while maintaining server pride and reputation, to eliminate nightcapping while making wvw a perpetual conflict. These things are mutually exclusive and there is no dev on the planet who could make them happen.”
I did mention in a previous thread, though, that some of the lower servers do need to be shut down. Servers are only applicable to WvW now, so there’s really no need to try to hang onto something the devs really can’t fix (see previous paragraph, it’s true!). Offering free xfers to them will help them, and help to populate some mid-tier servers.
Win-win, if there are less servers, there will be closer matchups, and with closer matchups there will be more tier rotation. Let’s face it, it is perpetual. And this is the best way to balance.
And please. NO alliances. Let’s not change the original WvW to something we don’t recognize and something we didn’t play for the past 3+ years.

Well, that’s it for me. It’s a step in the right direction, and hopefully we can get some people back from the other game that recently launched. Not gonna lie, I’ve got one foot in that one also, just in case our WvW stays broken.
If I block someone, they shouldn’t be able to see me in my online status, regardless of whether they set to follow me or block me. If that can’t be done, then at the very least they shouldn’t be able to see what map I’m in.
A friend and I have literally been followed from map to map to map before by a very unstable person, and it’s freaking creepy. At first, he had her blocked, and I did not. By the time we switched to a fifth or sixth map (to see if she was really stalking him), she bragged about how the game left a way for her to stalk him even though he had her blocked. I promptly blocked her myself, and she started following me on her friend’s list (same workaround she used on my friend to follow him from map to map). And as long as I was set to online status, she continued to follow us. And she continued to sporadically stalk both of us for well over a month after that.
Also, as many are aware, people can still see where you are in “offline” status. A friend sent me an in-game mail one time to ask me why I was offline and what was I doing in the map I was in at the time. On your friend’s list, if you hover your cursor over the greyed out names, they will show “offline,” “unknown” (they recently logged out), or it will show the map they are currently in. Seriously. I checked it for myself, and it does, and it’s correct. If it shows someone in a map, but set to offline, they’re in-game.
I’m not sure if you still can, but it used to be you could do the same thing in a guild roster. We used to be able to see what map the offline person was in.
It’s not a huge, huge deal, but sometimes I like to have a little quiet time and focus on some personal goals without someone kittening at me for not participating in this or that. Or maybe I don’t feel good. For whatever reason, again, offline status is offline.
tl;dr
Offline is offline. No one should see where we are. Friend’s lists and guild rosters should just say we are offline.
Blocked is blocked. No blocked person should see by using their own follow or block list, whether or not we are online and what map we are in.
And here’s one additional, final concern. Anyone can make a second F2P account and continue to stalk.
So maybe all this discussion is moot.

Since it appears that you limit yourself to this forum, you seem to assume that this is the only venue where there is communication between devs and players, and that there are only two of us. So here’s some unsolicited advice: broaden your horizons and research other social media.
We are still here, and we are legion. We know how to help save this game mode, and we have been speaking out elsewhere.
And now we are back. And we are being heard.

I’m not limiting myself to 5, per the OP’s request, for the sake of being thorough. And per a post on page two, these are not in order of preference.
@ Gaile, sorry for the tl;dr here. Thank you for popping in, acknowledging us, and keeping an eye on our opinions, comments, wish lists and gripes that have our Pink Moa feathers ruffled!
1. Borderland Map: We wanted new scenery, an Alpine alternative. Please give us something that isn’t a vertically challenging map, or that has statues spewing fire, pop-up rock formations, dust storms, jump pads, etc. Just please provide a simple alternative map that can be rotated with Alpine every month or so and let us have Alpine for now, until one is made, or Desert is fixed.
2. Gliding: NO gliding in WvW. For the love of Dwayna, please and HELL NO. nonononononono
3. Stability: Our big fights are more like standoffs and stare-downs now. Please give us back our stability. Pirate ship blows.
4. Scouts/Defenders: Scouts and defenders were supposed to be better rewarded for their time and energy, or so we were told. But now a lot of our former scouts and defenders are no longer playing. In fact, scouts on the Desert BL are pretty much non-existent now (waypoints contested, distance, speed, small guild nerf, all addressed in some form in other paragraphs). This particular issue is actually a major complication caused by numerous issues that should, hopefully, be addressed.
5. Player rallies on deaths and the perma down (doubled): Please change the rally system back to the way it was. Rally bots were fine. If servers and/or players insist on bringing uplevels and people with crappy armor to a big fight, that’s their problem. No one should expect to be dealing damage in level 70 gear and incomplete trait lines anyway. That should be in EotM where the scores don’t matter.
6. Reset night: Correct me if I’m wrong, but this was supposed to be temporary while another, better time was figured out so as not to interfere with weekend gaming in the event a patch was necessary? Why not do a patch early to mid-day Friday when the matches are pretty much written in stone, and put us back into a Friday reset?
7. Potential reward tracks: Please fix WvW before implementing something new. Pretty please? Yes, I would like gold and exo/ascended drops to be improved, but let’s not add anything “new” new until we get old stuff fixed. Improving existing drops fine, adding stuff right now, please no.
8. Population: We have all heard the rumors that a factions-style WvW is being considered and that everyone will be both systematically and randomly (if not “allied” with other guilds) thrown into different eotm-type maps. A lot of us know who said it and who it was said to. If this is true, this is not the WvW game mode that I love, and it’s already starting to feel unrecognizable, like a rabbit hole we’ll never come out of.
There are several lower tier servers that can be closed. Give them free transfer options to some mid to uppers that are more populated. Why recreate the entire system to accommodate people that simply refuse to move from low pop servers, when tons of us farmed gold, converted to gems and transferred exactly as the game allows us all to do.
And regarding night capping. Good grief, do people expect Anet to handpick people by individual schedules and magically drop them into their servers’ dead time zones or something? We all have some dead times zones, it’s a WvW fact of life.
Transfers exist so the devs don’t have to play server fairies and try to kill themselves making everyone happy. People have an option to get some gems and transfer… or not.
9. Lag/glitches/hackable areas. Doesn’t need much explanation, but a reporting option for hackers would be the shzniz.
10. Guilds and upgrades: This ties into a number of issues in WvW. Small havoc guilds, and scouts/defenders specifically. We’ve lost a lot of these good folk that we were always happy to see, and grew to have confidence in and depend on. The thing is, before HoT, these active and generous folk had all the upgrades that they needed to upgrade objectives, make their own guild siege, etc. This is another one of the “unrecognizable” things I was talking about earlier. The guild landscape has completely changed as far as smallish WvW guilds are concerned. Small (or solo member) former WvW guilds cannot possibly generate enough money from WvW to get their former upgrades up to speed, nor can they get to post-HoT guild status for WvW upgrades. It’s a mess. A real mess.
Now before some smartypants goes and says people need to join large guilds with all the bells and whistles, what if said guilds don’t allow people to access said upgrades, hm? So, with that in mind, we do now have a shortage of people that used to have the upgrades in their small guilds, and have zero access now. RIP a ton of scouts/defenders.
And while we’re on this topic, some of the bigger guilds are starting to literally ask for gold donations to keep up said various bells and whistles, gizmos and gimmicks that we are starting to (and should not have to) become dependent on. So there is definitely a problem here.
11. Contested and emergency waypoints: Did we really need either of these added in? I did prefer the good old days when I could run from Citadel to various points contested, or have a little sliver of time to possibly waypoint into a keep to defend it. Sometimes we had some ridiculously awesome fights at Bay and Hills that way, on the Alpine map. Speaking of being able to run to various points contested, we had WAY more latitude to do this on Alpine than Desert. Alternate routes and less danger of faceplanting into enemy zergs that one can’t avoid in a canyon or ravine.
12. Autoloot: A lot of us rushed through that PvE mastery only to be told that it was “removed” from WvW at the last minute. I also remember reading somewhere that maybe a new WvW track would be added to get it at a later time? I don’t get it. We were told we were going to have it, then not, then maybe later, but we’d have to work for it again. All we want is a little love here. Please get us some autoloot.
13. Proofs of heroics: Do these really need to be soul bound? And maybe some more purchasing options? Or even put them in the wallet instead of the bank? The clutter is real.
14. Shield Generators, banners, tactivators, airships, chilling fog, etc.: Please remove.
15. Skill balancing: It would be nice to have our skill balancing separate from PvE, if possible.
16. Communication: It’s crucial to have some form of it in any buyer/seller relationship. I can probably safely say most of us are super happy that this thread is being watched. We need way more of this in the future, as there has been too much silence as of late. Silence leads to lack of confidence, sadly. At any rate, it would be nice to get some of our WvW peeps back!
