I’d rather see this worked on than puttering around with repair hammers, to be honest. A girl can dream, right?
Linking has got nothing to do with the tier its got to do with the calculated population and it lasts for 2 months they can’t turn links on and off from week to week.
I guess I just figured since it was said that T1 wouldn’t have links, that any server that got up there, their linking would be unlinked.
So we voted for 4 week changes but were told no, didn’t hit 75% majority so it’ll be 8 weeks instead (or two months, whatever), and it just seems super messy to me. That’s just my $.02 copper.
How are JQ and FA linked, and YB isn’t.
How is DB linked again in T1?
Have we gotten an explanation on how exactly this is supposed to work yet?
YB has lost players and it isn’t reflected in the linking yet, plus DK doesn’t seem to be pulling long hours like he used to. Its a bad position but other servers have been in similar bad positions.
Right, but my point is, I was under the impression (I might be wrong) that T1 servers would have no link.
And I was also wondering why T4 has so much linking.
The problem is people with lots of cash (real money) moving server’s whenever they want, which i reckon will never stop cause everyone wants easy gaming, domination spoon feed etc,etc , no server loyalty.
That’s too much of a generalization. It’s not hard at all to farm the gold for a transfer. It’s boring, but not difficult. Also, this linking stuff started because of a) a few guilds that I won’t name got into the business of server stacking/matchup manipulation b) lower tiers asking for population shakeups to boost their servers, and c) people asking for balance for “night capping.” This is the closest people are going to get to getting the devs to sprinkle magic fairy dust and somewhat forcing people into some of these servers that are/were doing poorly.
And as far as server loyalty, this is a game, a hobby, not a job. If a server is doing crappy, why should anyone be guilt tripped into making it their business to pick it back up? Why should anyone stay where they aren’t having fun?
Everyone’s own server is ultimately responsible for recruiting guilds/people and for making it a place where people want to move. And if no one wants to move there, or if people keep leaving, that’s not Anet’s fault, nor should people keep bothering them about it.
You guys got this all wrong. Anet can’t predict when a server population is going to tank (YB) or transfer off or fairweather. You’re trying to ascribe to Anet something that is completely within the realm of players, guilds, and how well server communities organize themselves. Anet is making links only every two months based off that server’s data every two months.
Based on that, then, population “counts” should occur more frequently.
IDK, something seems wrong in the Matrix atm.
/shrug
It would be SUPER fun for them to be able to run without the Anet tag for a little bit (so they’re not primary targets), and head up raids.
Here’s a template for anyone who wants to reply:
We’re matched up with the worst servers XXX and YYY. All they do is blob in a single enormous zerg. Yet our guild groups with fewer than 10 players easily wipe these blobs — that is when the blob doesn’t turn tail whenever they see someone from our server. The only reason they are “competitive” is because they nightcap when literally no on else is online. Have fun PvDoor heroes!
Just substitute your opponents for XXX and YYY.
Nice edit! Starting to see threads and posts similar to the ones in the old (shut down) matchup subforums lately, with people pointing fingers at other servers.
/popcorn
If the goal was to make it so that T1 NA wasn’t linked, they should have unlinked DB tonight, and tossed their link onto YB or something. Then it would have made sense.
That is one of the problems with this current linking structure, it did not create any equal starting point for servers like the first one did when all servers were linked. Any problems that occured afterwards regarding stacking was caused by players, but that can happen anytime on any server. The current system created a massive inequality in matchups from the start, and they clearly did not take into account how any changes with servers rising or dropping tiers would affect matchups. They also have not given any information about any possible mid linking adjustments for such matchup changes, using DB and YB as the current example.
After being in T1 for so long (prior to the linking stuff that is), no one ever really complained about the matchups being stale. The fights were good, we were all in a love-hate relationship, etc.
It seems as though at least one T2 server will be popping in and out of T1, depending on the “rng” (or wherever the darts land, as someone said earlier).
And T4 is like… whoa.
I really still feel like some of the super low pop servers should have been closed and the people given free transfers.
And some lag adjustments. That’s just my $.02 copper, though. :p
anet was throwing darts at a wall for server linkings
Lmao. Kinda makes sense now.
How are JQ and FA linked, and YB isn’t.
How is DB linked again in T1?
Have we gotten an explanation on how exactly this is supposed to work yet?
Our guild is having the same issue, except we are doing the 2 lord kill mission, and this is the second time that this has happened. we have tried contacting arena net but we have yet to hear anything back. hopefully this is fixed soon.
My guild never got credit on either the 2 or 3.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but idgaf what race the lords and supervisors are. Good grief, there are things far more important that need to be looked into and worked on.
Our guild attempted the 55 minute, 3 enemy lord one twice. No credit.
Yes, we had our teams set up. Yes, we started the mission before we queued up.
I have asked in our FB group if this is an ongoing thing, and a few people have said it is, but I haven’t found anything here in the official forums to confirm.
Does anyone know if it’s bugged?
That’s not an Anet issue, and people need to stop asking for solutions to that. Would it be fun for you to be popped down a tier just to see new servers?
Most servers aim at moving up. Be happy you have the population to be in Tier 1, and suck it up. NA Tier 1 had the same servers for well over a year and most people I know were fine with it. I never got bored (still not bored) and the fights are awesome.
I’d rather have cohesive servers and good fights than a switcharoo “just because.”
I don’t care about the semantics definition & the philosophical argument about “what is a guild?”. Edit: (i.e. “how many players does it take to form a guild? 2? 3? 5?”)
But, as a WvW player, i care about just one thing: the WvW upgrades/buff granted by guilds. Before the HoT WvW changes i had three 1-man “guilds”. I spent money in them to grant constant +5 to my server when/if needed.
Now even if you play h24 WvW you can’t even claim a structure for a +5 becase “excuse me Sir, you’re not in a guild, so we don’t care”. That is totally silly.
RIP the days when small guilds could run around and +5 camps and upgrade towers/keeps, siege them up and scout.
People like you are a rare commodity now. This is part of the reason why so few people scout now. It’s boring enough as it is, but if you serve no purpose other than sitting in an objective why bother? If you can do upgrades it’s a different story. But now, you have to depend on large guilds with the upgrades, and so all you really have to do to occupy your time is to just sit there with your thumb up your butt.
And edit to say if some of these minimum requirements were loosened a bit, smaller guilds could feasibly get their upgrade capacities more quickly.
No thanks. As RodOfDeath said, the lag is bad enough.
Let the team work on current issues. Nothing needs to be added right now.
That, and, this has already been discussed to death in multiple threads.
Hey guys, since I’m seeing this topic pop up a lot, I wanted to step in and clear up some misconceptions.
1. Nearly every player that voted, plays WvW at least somewhat regularly.
2. Whether they play 1 hour a week, or dozens of hours a week, the breakdown between people who voted ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ remains very constant around the 65/35 split.
3. The in-game poll notification mail is only sent to players who are actively playing WvW. They must be at least rank 10, and have ranked up while the poll was running.
One hour a week???!!! O.O
We are having a hard time getting three new guildies into our T1 server, moving in from the (soon-to-be) previous paired server.
I don’t want to hear any suggestions about bouncing them around paired servers “if” and until our server is not “full,” either.
I don’t know about how anyone else feels, but this whole thing is getting messy now and few people are getting to where they want to go. :/
When I saw reveal, I thought it was going to exchanged with EBG. I never thought it was going to be a borderland. :p
I’ve heard a bunch of people say that on TS lately, and they’re on lowest settings.
We’ve been asking for templates for a long, long, long time. :/
That was a fun night, and a fun raid!!! <3
I think we’ve asked for additional reporting options for quite some time now for reporting purposes. Botting just doesn’t seem to cover it, or do it.
We need one for griefing and one for exploits.
As a few others have mentioned, if enough people report the person(s) they do get banned.
What needs to be done is after “x” number of times of being banned for the same thing, they get a permanent ban, and the problem is solved.
Yes, some of these donkey chapeaus will buy another account, or get a F2P, and do it again, but the likelihood decreases when they know ahead of time there are permanent consequences. Then they give up and slither away.
Having so many full servers sucks. I feel sorry for solo roamers and small havoc guilds that want to move.
Why feel bad for us roamer and havoc guilds?? The roaming in T1 and T2 isn’t as good as it is in T3 currently. We can all go to a server linked with a T3 server and the roaming is gooooooood. I’m on BP paired with FA right now and I’ve been having a blast roaming.
It’s not just a matter of picking a tier. It’s a matter of being able to choose a cohesive community.
I’m not trying to argue with you, but I do have a question. What will you do when BP ends up paired with another server? And what if you don’t like the vibe of that server? I guess what I’m getting at is this: are people in lower tiers going to keep spending gems to transfer to other lower population servers so they can play with the upper tier servers they WANT to be with?
I honestly never cared about what the community is like in any server I’ve been in. In fact, the server I still consider to be my “favorite” that I have been on is Maguuma and they have been considered the most toxic server community for years haha.
I go where the fights are, if I end up paired with a server that has no enemies, I’ll find my way to another server to have enemies to fight against again. Simple as that.
We do know that a lot of players want more pairing rotation, so if that happens, that makes things real unstable for solo roamers and small havoc guilds that I know. That doesn’t speak for everyone, but this is what I’m hearing from my own friends. Some of them are stuck paired with a community they feel is pretty toxic and they want to move. But with so many unanswered questions about the future of pairing, costs, server population statuses, etc., they feel stuck. And I see their point.
I don’t care if it rotates or not for me personally. It is fun getting in other match ups and being paired with servers you have friends or foes in or against.
A lot of people DO care about server vibe, cohesion and coordination.
I didn’t know I was on a dead server playing the game with a bunch of non-competitive “band wagoners”.
People play WvW for a variety of reasons. I personally like being on a server where I can solo roam, havoc, or join up with a zerg anytime I choose. It’s a place where individual player skill matters. If I had to deal with the population levels on Blackgate I probably wouldn’t enjoy playing WvW.
I’m not sure what the best long term solution is for population balance. Server stacking is a problem and we also don’t want to have empty servers. I’m glad that ArenaNet is trying to address these issues. I feel like its too early to start complaining about server locking. The lock isn’t permanent and can be changed.
The problem is that pairing (and the likelihood of pairing rotations) has changed the “vibe” in some of the servers that are now on “full” status.
All I know is that upper tier solos and small havoc guilds have pretty much been screwed over as far as moving into other upper tier servers.
I don’t understand why people keep saying they can’t roam in T1. I’ve been doing it for well over 2 years.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the majority of desert haters are a very very vocal minority of the overall population. The majority of the overall population will play whatever they’re given.
I’m going to have to call bullkitten. The DBLs were largely empty even in T1 unlike the ABL that have queues almost every night now. The “majority” of the overall population crammed themselves into EBG or quit when the DBLs were the only other option. My guild roster and friendslist reflected that too. Anet having your mentality is exactly the reason why WvWvW got to such a sorry state in the first place. Players can and will vote with their feet when they’re not having fun.
I’m going to have to call bullkitten on you calling bullkitten. =P Not on the part about players leaving when they’re not having fun, but on the part that infers a causal relationship between a drop in wvw player population and the change to desert borderlands. It’s possible you’ve spent too long in an echo chamber hehe.
Edit I don’t mean to suggest that your personal experience is somehow wrong here, it’s just that it doesn’t coincide with my personal experience at all. Hope the tone of the above post doesn’t come across as really kittenish or anything.
I’m going to have to 100% agree with gennyt, based on what I saw in my T1 server.
DBL was deserted (pun intended) and EB queued during off-primes.
People on my friend’s list stopped playing completely and I may as well have played a funeral dirge for the guild roster – RIP.
They returned when ABL was put back. Immediately.
EB queued nightly, as well as two ABLs.
And now, it’s starting to fall off again a bit since the pairings and the imminent return of at least one DBL.
@Hesacon, it’s more like the majority of the population will vote for the most palatable option thrown at them.
As you can see, the option of only ONE DBL is currently in the lead. And that’s the closest option to having NONE. It’s fairly obvious most people would have voted for no DBL if they had been given that choice.
But we’ll never know. Because we weren’t given that option.
Despite dramatic recent improvements in communication from Tyler and the WvW team, there is a conspicuous silence around the lack of a “No DBL” option.
<snip>The current options are designed to achieve your agenda of reinstating DBL while presenting it as a “player driven choice”.
I won’t speculate on any “agenda,” but the option should have been included. And that’s why I didn’t bother to vote. I wonder what percentage of players would have voted no DBL if the choice had been made available.

With all the server volatility from the pairing (along with the upcoming pairing rotations), and the upper tier servers being on “full” status, some people are stuck in servers they no longer want to be in.
I realize that the rotations will change the matchups. Some of the matchups might improve, some might not. The issue is that with all this going on, according to some of my friends in other servers, the community they joined is not the community they are now. They want to move, and they can’t. Not a single person, and most definitely not a small guild.
The choice everyone had from the beginning of GW2 to transfer is disappearing, and we still don’t have answers about what is going to be done about this, if anything. I get that all this is to prevent server stacking, but solos and havocs are getting thrown under the bus, if they want to move to an upper tier solid server with a solid community that they want to join.
I know everyone is excited about WvW getting attention, but in the long run (and in my opinion) this server “full” situation is going to cause issues down the road.
Mixed Borderlands – no
World Linking Schedule – Every 3 or 4 weeks
Deployable Mortars – no
Deployable Cannons – no
Repair Hammer – doesn’t matter
Special Mention
WvW Priorities – What do you want the WvW team to prioritize next?
— Server performance, skill lag
— Separate WvW skills from other game modes, as PvP is separated.
— Proper reporting options for hacking and exploiting.
— Bring the guild bankers back.
— Better loot drops
— Skill templates (I can dream, can’t I? )
WvW needs to be completely separated from PvE skills. It’s LONG overdue.
They ALREADY stated 5pm PST is too early and does not work, so that idea has already been declined.
Clearly, and this post is here to to ask them to reconsider, and we’re providing reasons it doesn’t work. 5pm for west coasters is too early, 10pm for east coasters is too late. Again, at least west coasters can queue and join for several hours either way.
It sounds like the ONLY solution that works for both parties is to make it fixed 6pm/9pm year round and adjust for daylight savings.
^^gets it^^
Maybe anet can make a thing where you can trade/turn in tomes of knowledge in for something else?
That would be perfect!
The free accounts should be restricted to 3 days in WvW, just to check it out, and then barred from playing until a full purchase. Three days is plenty of time for someone to make up their mind if they like the game mode or not.
Sure, there will be people that will still be able to afford to buy 1,284 (lol) accounts to spy on other servers, but restricting the free accounts would make a HUGE dent in this issue.
So in November, it IS set to 6pm EST.
This was not missed. The request is to revert the change that made the reset one hour later year round. Reset night has never started at 10:15pm US Eastern time until recently which is crazy late for the majority of east coasters. In November it will bounce back to 9pm, so are we to enjoy reset only for the winter season?
Exactly.
It WAS originally one hour earlier than it is now. Right now it WOULD be 9 p.m. eastern, and in the fall, 8 p.m. eastern, which worked out better for eastern time zones.
I’m not a fan of “Last Stand,” and the drama and QQ that will come with it. And the drama WILL happen. And we’ll be back here on the forums trying to reverse it.
But I’m not a fan of a day off either, lol. I’d be okay with some kind of one day thing, on rotation, like one week golem rush, or no contest swords, etc., like some previous special “weeks” we’ve had (although limiting those to one day, or one weekend would have been better to begin with).
Let’s say I get sick of T1 and go T4…okay…great. All the "HOST’ servers are full so my only options are the kitten servers who could be reswapped at any time. So I could spend $20 to switch to what I want as a player and then have that decision reverted and my money WASTED by a server switch I would have NO control over.
It IS NOT FAIR. DO NOT LINK. MERGE IT. At least then I can make a decision that won’t be screwed over later. A game is all about OPTIONS and freedom.
The merging removed the option to pick a scale you enjoyed and were comfortable with and left you no real way to relocate without spending gold/real money for something that could be taken away from you without you having any input.
It’s unfair and frankly is destroying the one thing that has kept me enjoying this game for 3 years.
This is the simple fact that is being missed. But hey, throw people a poll and they feel powerful, and exercise their right to vote.
There are upper tier servers that are absolutely benefiting from this, and some that are not. There are people in lower tiers that are miserable being thrown into upper, and some that ended up loving it.
Either way, the BEST option for people would have been to shut down some low-pop servers, give people a free 1x transfer, and let THEM choose.
But you have a choice. Spinach or mustard greens. There is no green bean option.
Eat your veggies!
Keeping the linking is currently winning the poll. It should have been placed in the WvW subforum (as mentioned in another thread).
I personally hate things like straw poll and change.org, so I’ll just say it here.
I’m in the EST time zone, and I agree. 10:00 p.m. is too late.
I appreciate having reset back to Friday night, for sure, but it would be nice to have it back to 9:00 p.m., making it start at 6:00 p.m. for PST folks.
That time frame is a win-win for everyone. A lot of EST folks end up sitting out for an hour waiting on the queue, and then don’t have time to play, but PST folks would still have time to wait.
Just my $.02 copper.
There are things like this, and a few other things, that should be taken care of before proposed WvW “improvements” at the moment.
Also, our repeated requests for a hacking/exploiting report option have been ignored for years.
This is definitely an exploit, and it’s a pita.
I’ve already talked to people that misunderstand this to mean megaservers. As most of us know (or should know) by now, people do NOT read. I’ve also talked to a couple people that misunderstood the wording.
The poll should have absolutely been placed within the WvW subforum and written more simplistic for the tl’dr folks, like this:
Should server linking remain in WvW?
- yes
- no
No no no x infinity cubed.
So are you saying you like a struggling wvw that will need a ton of developer manipulation to balance? A wvw that doesn’t even receive 1/10th of the development that pve does?
I know the devs are trying, but it’s easy to see the road ahead. Something big needs to happen to make WvW better for the long run.
We are coming up on four years into the game. Why the hell would we want a whole revamp done to a game mode that we love? If I wanted a “new” game, I’d play something else.
No no no x infinity cubed.
Constant disconnects (already a thread on this). Also, some servers are getting disconnected while enemy servers don’t. Needless to say, we don’t own much of anything on our own BL.
Emergency WP in garri on red BL. Flipped when we DC’d multiple times and now an enemy server has a free WP (and taking advantage of it). Not sure if it’s just on the server that I’m on or all red BLs.
WvW reward tracks are being reset after each DC.
Just DC’d for a second time!!!
I’m on probably at least my 10th from WvW.
The DCs are more frequent now. Unplayable, at least for WvW.
THIS needs to be fixed before any further work on scoring. Seriously.
3x now in WvW, and all people in our squad.
Edit to say also that the reward tracks are being reset after each DC to another track not chosen. At least for me anyway.
Oh god this is going to alienate a lot of people, and make them feel like what they contribute isn’t worth while, driving more people away from WvW. Please do not make one time zone of scoring worth more than any other time. And this is coming from a NA prime time player. Last thing we need is people leaving WvW again.
+1 Let’s not give people excuse to stack NA servers and desert bottom tier combinations to have higher chance to win..
I agree. WvW is going back into the rabbit hole again.
I didn’t vote at all, didn’t like either option. Period. As I said on the voting thread, there are PLENTY of other things that should have been addressed, and need to be addressed, before “scoring” or QoL.
And yet, there wasn’t a third option of “something else” with instructions to make a suggestion. Nope. Scoring or QoL. Either/or. Pick one. And deal with it.
And that’s where things get out of touch.
