I still think ANet needs to see if there’s a way to do a NA and EU alliances. Pairing up higher coverage NA servers with lower EU coverages and vice versa may help balance the coverage gaps.

BG’s EU timezone coverage isn’t a constant and stable blob. SOR’s is. BG Oceanic will be more of a stable blob than their EU. But then again, SOR and BG are the only 2 servers able to blob and steamrolled almost any servers easily. If free xfers were around, I’m sure I’ll go to SOR over BG since I see their side having the more bigger and stable zergs. It’s not just a matter of winning or losing. It’s a matter of whether or not you can even do anything. It’s impossible to fight, gather, or doing your dailies when 10+ full lvl 80’s steamrolled over you (in my case it’s uplvl to 80). When I was part of a huge zerg that steamrolled others, I wanted to call others who comments about the huge blobs “trolls” too. I didn’t because I know it was obvious that it wasn’t a fair match-up.
ANYWHERE except SoR. They have a powerful EU presence already.

It’s a smart choice. That’s perhaps the only server you can PVD in EU timezone in NA. I enjoy doing PVD when I need to level up my character(s) too. It’s one of the easiest way for me to level up. Go in a big blob of 60-80 vs 5-10 and steamrolled them for experience, badges, karma, etc.
Free transfers have nothing to do with WvW population.
Actually I think free transfers helps WvW population. If free transfers are back, all those people who just who wants to stack on the winning server will hop on and force the overstacked servers to start breaking apart and spread their population to servers who aren’t so stacked. In a way, it forces distribution to other servers and helps balance WvW. Afterall, who would like to sit in queues for hours when their goal is to play and compete? Please bring back free transfers once in a while so we can force players/guilds to move about to create a more balance environment.
There are 3 reasons a guild will want to claim a camp, tower, keep or castle… 1 is that the guild wants it’s logo being displayed. 2 is that they want to help benefit their team/server. 3 is sabotage so nobody can claim it and provide the necessary buffs. I tend to believe in the first 2 reasons… I would like to see buffs but I cannot expect it all the time. However, it would be nice if Anet at the minimum is to also show the guild tag along with the logo. This will at least let others in the map knows which guild claimed it for better or for worst. And if the guild has no representative (guild member) in that map and non of the buffs are active, then the piece of land should be available for any other guild to claim it. Why allow a guild to claim the land and abandoned it?
If you insist on queues and skill lag, join JQ. They could use the organized guilds to compete with SoR and BG. They have a lot of fairweathers just like BG and will come out when the server is winning.
I think the fairweathers xferred off JQ already. Perhaps a few already popping into BG and SOR? Remember, fairweathers are not used to being in 3rd. They want #1 and at minimum #2 spot… Some might even be in DB since they think JQ was falling off a cliff and decided to jump ship first. It’s all a pre-emptive move like what they did to HOD, ET, SBI, SOS, KN… If free transfers exists, I’m sure a lot of folks will now be in BG.
Anyways, JQ seems to hold pretty strong even with guilds and players that left the server. And in some instances, decided to retire from the game… JQ tends to make a comeback and they are in need of almost all timezones.

I am new to the game and am curious as to which server I should select. I want to join a server that has mostly pvp players because that is my focus. My question is basically is which server is the best server to join for pvp? If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it.
Depends on your definition of best for pvp. Since this is WvW discussion, I’m assuming you mean the best for WvW… In my opinion I say BG, SOR, JQ, TC, DB and SOS are my preferences. If I plan on steamrolling everyone with the biggest zerg, I’ll go BG or SOR.
Maybe Anet can just create a button for “Alliances”? Alliances only lits up when the 2 servers are behind by certain amount of points. Example would be if the 2nd closest server is 10k points behind, the 2 servers who are behind can vote on the “Alliance” icon which has a 1 minute timer which prompts all those within the borderland to click accept or decline. If they don’t vote, it abstains so it’s neither a yes or no vote. If both sides has more saying yes than no, it will effectively in that borderland allows the 2 servers to see each other as “non red” so they are friendly and cannot be targetted or attacked. If server A heavily outmanned B and C, B and C will have their forces combined to take out A. The Alliance will trigger off after either B or C passes A in points. So no need to complain about double team, because if your server is so stacked, be prepared to face off against 2 servers which they cannot mistakenly hurt each other… And if both servers going after same base, it’s okay. Whichever server captures it first will take the base. The circle will have both colors and whoever gets more people in, takes it. Make the matches closer. And with the Alliance, if B captures a base, C cannot take it and vice versa. They are both allowed to take all of the bases from A until the scores evens out.
I think wvw population needs clarification too. For me, the best metric would be total/average wvw player-hours in the prior week.
Yes. I think population of wvw players during which time zones needs to be public. It’ll help those on all servers and those guilds who wants to have fights pick the servers that are in need of people rather than just stacking onto the same few servers…
Guilds like TW, TWL Choo, IRON, TYSM have members that transfered parts of their guilds to JQ and been taking up spaces in WvW just to have Guild vs Guild. They are ruining the Que’s for those who actually care to WvW. I doubt anything will be done but I’d like to pass the info out to the rest of SoR and JQ in why you are having longer que times.
Not sure about the timezone for you. But I find that there is absolutely no que in JQ. If not for TW’s visit, JQ would have been outmanned on every borderland. Only EB has que if any…
You guys like how BG destroys JQ and DB by over 100k points and then Jade Quarry advances to #2 best server and DB advances to #4 server.
While TC moved down and is facing T3 and T4 servers.
The way how JQ and DB got crushed, both servers should be placed in a lower tier. TC should be facing off SOR and BG. Completely broken system. Maybe Anet accidentally removed the 3 zeros behind and said it was only a couple of hundred points?
I like the idea of penalties. But the penalties should be based on the matchups. Depending on the 3 servers that are being paired, the penalty calculations should be done for that match. It’ll force the servers to try to even things out rather than stomp through smaller zergs with their 2-5X larger zergs. Rewards are increased for the side with less players. Costs for upgrades are higher for the side with more players.

I come back from a week long break and find after several losses and settling into more suitable coverage we are effectively back in t1, yet again facing the omnizerg.
You’ve actually managed to break further an already broken system, it’s really quite astonishing!
Maybe there’s a matchmaker who decides the matches. Can’t be automated… It’s human and thus made errors like this.
To me, the system seems broken because it isn’t random enough when it’s supposed to be random. You have 3 servers who faced off against one another for 3-6 months and yet it’s paired again?
Rinse, repeat, rinse… Thank god “Dragonbash” is available. I’ll go enjoy the fireworks instead.
This week’s matchup looks broken. How can a server who lost a match by as much as 100,000+ points gets paired with them again?
Fix the kittenin lag already , its unplayable on tier1 ! What the kitten its wrong with those servers ? You can’t even make a kittenin skill anything ! kittenING FIX IT !
It’s not easy to fix huge zerg ballin’ servers all trying to pile onto 1 camp, tower, keep or castle. Only thing you can do is get used to it and do what everyone else in tier 1 & 2 do. Press the 1 button repeatedly.
What Anet needs to consider is adding heroes into the game to compensate for lack of players. The game needs to be balanced out. Perhaps each side that has 1 less player gets 2 NPC to compensate and follow them around. It will help create bigger zergs and we can then have zerg vs zerg. NPC will attack the same target as the outmanned person that they get assigned to from spawn. Each player will get 2 NPC assigned for 1 player less. Each of the NPC should be equivalent to the strength of Seigerazer.
The amount of teamwork is better. when people say “Stack”.people actually listen and stack vs run in by themselves.
Remember, you can only “Stack” when your server is truly stacked. With almost never being “outmanned” and “queues” like crazy, of course it’s easier to PVDoor. Been there, done that… For some people it may always seem to be more fun when you’re always stacked enough to win. So, truth be told… when the server you are on starts going downhill or bored of no competition because you can easily outstacked your opponents, you will start seeing guilds leave, people stops showing up, teamwork becoming quarrels, or organized becoming disorganized, etc… So far this has been the trend of WvW. From the HoD days of 24/7 coverage and domination till this date. Nothing has really changed in WvW. Bigger stacks always beat those that are less stacked.
I didn’t say that. I’m just saying out of T1, SoR has maintained their guilds and kept everyone happy. Where as BG and JQ have been losing guilds and people have been unhappy.
In reality, I hope RE goes to a lower ranked server so we can see some new servers make it up to the higher tiers. Joining an already stacked server just makes the game uninteresting. This patch was badly needed just so we could get some new faces. Having servers gain a guild that isn’t a “WvW server” makes things more interesting for everyone.
Lol. You wouldn’t be saying that if Iron didn’t move their 200+ members over to SoR to overstacked the server on EU time zone.
As for lower ranked servers, of course coming out of fear of being knocked out of being #1 spot will make one say something like that.
I’m glad that SOR is winning and gratz to them. However, it also reaffirms that there is almost no chance of any server(s) to win in tier1 without having massive (zerg) guilds transferring to them to boost their overall standings. Example: BG had a few massive zergs last minute (aka WM and their followers from KN, many former SOS guilds) to finally win it in tier1. SOR had a few massive zergs last minute (aka Tsym and their followers from SOS and Iron from EU) to finally win in tier1. Could they have done it without those bandwagons? Possible, but it’s a long shot.
So far, the only server that has risen from low ranks to winning tier 1 was SOS. Their transfers happens while they were still in tier 4, not in tier 1 or 2. They were able to dominate mostly with their Oceanics and a few NA guilds that transfer over to assist.
But eventually all this will crumble… History will repeat itself… I see DB eventually in this position to repeat what has been done recently. Just need a few more last minute transfers???

SOR has the highest % of zergs and wvw players. You cannot escape the fact that large guilds like Tsym that built up from SOS and large zergie guild like Iron from EU side added to SOR to help build their already massive zergs. Quantity not Quality is what usually wins WvW.
We had a zerg of 50+ trying to take a keep; but we couldn’t get anywhere near because there was over 10 arrow carts doing over 1500+ damage per tick. Makes sense; especially at it’s range. They had no more than 15 defending.
Personally, I think in this case, AC may have serve it’s purpose. Zergs should be blasted and wiped until Anet finds a way to limit zergs doing pvdoors.
AC’s should scale up and down depending on situations of servers. If a server has 200+ and another has 50, then AC should be able to wipe the zergs out. If both sides have 200+, then AC scales down to what they used to be which can barely hurt anyone.
So any word on Ac’s goig to do less damage Vs players ? It’s supposed be a support siege…Not a “My one ac will wipe entire zergs siege”….
That should be the purpose…. Wipe zergs with AC’s. Prevent zergs from forming up. The AC’s in general should be fixed for overall. But if zergs are there, then AC damages should increase to bust them and break them. AC’s purpose should take into effect as to how many defenders vs how many attackers. If attackers has 10+ and more than double the defenders, the AC’s should scale up to break the zergs. Perhaps, all sieges should be bumped up to break zergs and detract from the overall mentality of zerging to win…
Simple fix to AC is to have their strength tied to WVW imbalances. If outmanned 10 to 1, their power gets multiplier of 10 and range triples. Let’s bust zergs and fix the stacking of servers.

JQ, BG, SOR tie for 2nd, 3rd, 4th… where Iron goes, the scale will tip heavily in their favor.
This new rating is great. However, the implementation should integrate EU servers fighting alongside or against fellow NA servers. Would be good if they can implement cross border travels to assist allies from different side of the world. Ideally NA server SOR would be paired as allies with Vabbi, Vizunah paired with Eredon Terrace as allies. This would make for a real competitive matches. Top from each side paired with lowest so there can be some kind of balancing. It would also rid the idea of stacking guilds onto a few servers because sooner or later, they’ll very likely lose because those 2 paired together (top rank with lowest rank) will need to cover 6 borderlands and 2 eternal battlegrounds. Some additional maps or map changes would also help… But I’m already liking the directions of these new implementations. Was already too tired for facing some opponents.
Based on servers that didn’t get stacked recently or losing of guilds that could have messed up their overall ratings in WvW, I have to say:
1. Ferguson’s Crossing (very stable in WvW within their tier, non stacked recently)
2. Fissure of Woe (very stable in WvW within their tier, non stacked recently)
3. Jade Quarry (quite stable in WvW even with some guilds gone , PVE too stable)
4. Vizunah (very stable in WvW within their tier, non stacked recently)
5. all others…
Guilds come and go, but at the end of the day, servers that stay within their tiers most I think were these servers. JQ is a tough one to analyze since their server is perhaps one of the best for PVE as well. There’s always tons of PVE’ers… Can’t say the same for some of those other servers in Europe since I’ve only experienced 1 server in Europe and although they managed to be #1 in WvW, their PVE lacks badly which made me move back to a NA server.
Just move to JQ and we can help you solve all your night cap problems
It intrigue me how EVERY thread have someone to say “Come to JQ” which is already a superstacked server…
Unfortunately, the myth continues… JQ isn’t as stacked when it comes to WvW. At least it isn’t anymore. Some guilds left, some retired due to WvW’s failed state, some just decided to go PVE, etc. PVE area and population is superstacked that’s for sure. Hardly even a queue during reset. 5-15 minutes waits? During weekends and weekdays, you can probably use one of them BL’s or heck even EB to map to Lion’s Arch for free.

Night capping? What’s that? There’s no fixes for this. Only fix Anet can do is perhaps merge the EU and NA scores or possibly their maps? i.e. tier1 Green NA+Red EU, Blue NA+Blue EU, Red NA+Green EU. Either let them crossover to assist each other as an alliance or combine their scores. Maybe the gaps will be closer? But that’s not possible since it’ll make this fight more of a real World vs World… not just continent vs continent which the name should’ve been changed to.
Daily resets not going to fix anything. Only way to balance game is to apply some math into the equations. Example: Server A has 10 people, Server B has 5 people, Server C has 20 people… 20 is max and highest, so Server A people gets a multiplier of 2. Each of their player has the equivalent strength of 2 so they can take on the zerg. Server B with 5 will get a multiplier of 4 and therefore their players will feel like superman. Only way to rid zergs and make matches equal. Otherwise, this game continues to rely on who has the bigger zerg and at what timeframe. I would love the idea of me being x100 to solo an entire 100 invaders zerg.
This is where ANet is failing. These matches are so repetitive because we’re facing the same servers every week and there’s really no goals except to collect badges that aren’t worth much. I’m actually doing more fights with Jormag, doing group events for chests, or just chilling in Lion’s Arch.

Fix this glicko rating system. It’s broken and makes matches boring as hell. Who wants to continuously play the same servers every week that shouldn’t be there? Let the fluctuations of points move greater. If a blowout happens, it happens for a reason and it means that the server is not in its proper place. Make the movement of points greater. This joke of a system is making WvW boring and repetitive with no end in sight. Not to mention its poor rewarding system. Kind of explains why some people are feeling that GW2 is easier to get bored when compared to the original GW.
Let’s just make this clear.
My intentions were not to see how much hate I could get or how much attention I could gain. It was solely to spice things up, to make the fights personal. If only you guys could hear me in TS while I’m commanding. I respect TW and FEAR because you guys are really good. When I see you guys on the battlefield, I know it’s going to get rough. And it’s so fun. Without rivalry, this game goes sour. The fights become boring. Am I right or am I right?
Edit: On another note, 70% of the members in RISE now are new. They need training BAD. Transferring to BG from KN lost us most of our veteran core members. Fighting you guys made me realize how much training our new people need.
Sorry to hear about the mishaps. But unfortunately, what you’ve done didn’t have bad intentions, but will end up being just that… “bad intentions”. In tier 1, people get uptight and sometimes tempers flares. People get offended really easily. i.e. WM to Kaineng, SoS wvw guilds scattered into BG & SOR, etc. etc. None of it is about competition. That’s a bunch of hogwash and painting a brighter picture as a cover up. No need to step down. Just an apology for behavior and change should be more than enough…

DB was already strong with its SEA population, it’s basically a mini JQ…and that’s rawnoodle’s reason of picking it, it makes it easier for him to claim that “i bring this server from T3 to T1”..

ranger OP in the water
But not many people want to use a ranger at all, especially out of water. Is it possible ranger are quite weak in land? Most people use OP classes like theives, mesmers and guardians. Perhaps, we can sell special glasses in the gem store that allows us to see all hidden thieves, identify which mesmer isn’t an illusion, etc. Yeah… that’ll balance the game more. I need to be able to see hidden thieves to kill them quick enough.

Yeah I understand it’s underwater and you technically can’t “stomp”, but why not make it so your character just takes away their breathing aparatus and the enemy drowns? Basically the same as stomping, same duration and everything, just another animation. Done. Next problem

Someone made a post awhile ago with a detailed system similar to a playoff system with “seasons”. I can’t find it now though. That was a great idea.
Playoff system with seasons sounds like a great idea. Maybe it’s time for that instead of the rating system we currently have. WvWvW matches played across all of NA for NA servers and EU facing off all of EU servers. All servers will get a chance to face off against each other and points tallied up at end of the season. You won’t get bored of playing against the same servers every week. i.e. Points are scored by 1st place=2, 2nd place=1, 3rd place=0 on each match. All servers will have a chance to be paired against each other in their respective region (NA for NA, EU for EU). Then at the end of season, the top group consisting 3 NA/EU, 2nd group 3 NA/EU, 3rd group NA/EU, etc. faces off each other to claim their respective ranks. This way, everyone will have a better idea of what their server ranking truly is, whether it be #1 or #9. Once the #1 NA and #1 EU team have been determined, then a world championship match of #1 NA and #1 EU team shall face off on a WvW, not WvWvW… Ack. Just throwing out something that probably won’t even happen.
I think many people are failing to understand what the term “WORLD” means. Wouldn’t you look at world and see that it is involving that world as a whole and not as individuals or small teams? Individuals and small teams would fall into arenas and or guild vs guild like in guild wars 1. World implies huge amount of people. And if your world has less resources, it would usually fail in real life and should be in game as well. If you go in there thinking you should be able to solo another world, then that part of the game doesn’t exists. Trust me. I’ve tried it. I thought I can and should have been able to solo a zerg. For some reasons, Anet forgot to buff me enough to withstand damage like Seigerazer… Yeah, maybe that can fix it. Provide such buffs to help me counter zergs and I can video that and youtube it…
Seems like this disconnect problem is getting worst by the day. Within 1/2 hour, I’ve gotten this Code 7 thing 4 times already. What’s going on? The latest patches have been nightmares…
Truth be told… Most people will bandwagon and hop onto a winning server just to reap the benefits for WvW. But the same people who bandwagonned and hopped there won’t contribute to the success and make WvW competitive. If ANet wants to fix this, they can easily. It requires some modifications to the benefits gains in PVE. Why should a PVE person reaps the full benefits? Even if they didn’t hopped onto the server, the rewards for crafting/gathering/etc. should be tied to contributions made to WvW.
Contributions includes:
1. Guild members taking part in WvW battles.
2. Donations of money to WvW into a pool that can be used for upgrades of castle, forts, towers and camps. Instead of making only those who part-take in the WvW pays for all, make people who wants the benefits from WvW contribute one way or another from their dungeon runs, etc. (Yes, ANet is allowed to take a % of the donations so they can run their business…)
3. Increase the amount of loot and provide better loot for WvW.
4. Make badges more meaningful. Different armor skins should be given for WvW folks.
5. Ranking system for guild kills and personal kills.
Zerg and outmanned buffs complaints are pointless. If nobody wants to take part in WvW in your server, then something needs to be done to entice them. Penalizing people on other servers who contributes to their success of the server doesn’t help. People take the benefits for granted and not knowing that there are people who spend money just to do WvW and sacrificed their time to benefit the server as a whole. I know many does the WvW for the fun and competitive environment it provides, but whatever the reasons, why should the rewards of WvW apply to the whole server when the people in the server didn’t contribute? It would’ve been different if their dungeon loot was automatically shared with the server. Yes, maybe ANet can force a sharing of dungeon loot and tax it by another 10-20% to get their cut?
