Wouldn’t it be fair if ANet just provide 5 new character slots for old and new player alike? You pay $50, you all shall get 5 more slots. If you don’t have any now, you’ll get 5. If you have 5, you get 5 more. The contents of the original GW2 and HoT are all inclusive. Let’s just make it simple. You’re basically paying for the slots.
I plan on purchasing the deluxe edition, so I’m good on the character slot. Just wondering.
Back to the revelry
I was going to buy the ultimate for myself and 4 standards for the rest of family, but I’m not buying anything after I see what was done to the standard version. It’s a disgusting path ANet is taking and I’m patiently waiting to see if I will go back to my alternative games that I just held off on playing but already purchased.
In fact, you need to spend another $10 or grind for more gold if you want that new class that was introduced.
Or delete that existing character that you don’t like and only kept around for storage purposes. Or use one of those four empty character slots that you haven’t ever used before. Or that one that you bought two years ago when it was on sale, but never got around to make a new character for.
Not everyone has all their character slots filled with irreplaceable alts.
Not a good option. All of the characters are fully leveled up, geared up and each have their own uniqueness. If it was easy as to just delete, I would’ve done it a long time ago. I don’t have any characters as storage. I rely on guild bank for that.
I’ve purchased every Guild Wars game. From the collector’s edition of GW1 to pre-ordered every expansion. All was collector’s edition whenever possible. I even pre-ordered GW2 collector’s edition. This HoT mess have me on the sidelines. I don’t think I want to buy 5 more copies of the game that I will still need to buy character slots for. Yes, I purchase the game for my entire family, including the toddler. I’m holding off as what this topic is all about until we get a clear understanding of how much ANet cares about their existing fan base.
Xar.1387 is really reaching now, “they said you will need the core game, they never said you need to purchase it”.
Why don’t you go into a store the next time they announce something new is available and try and walk out with it, then explain that they never advertised that you need to pay for it as they escort you to the backroom, let us know how that goes for you.
He has the HoT blindfold on, he truly is the first Revenant.
LOL. So true. I’m googling for his picture and I think I just saw it. It’s that Charr!!!
I haven’t seen this question asked yet in the uproar. I have the game already, so by definition of “comes with core game” I should get a second core game account serial, right?
It’s been answered. Probably not easy to search for within all this uproar. No. You get nothing except the new contents. In fact, you need to spend another $10 or grind for more gold if you want that new class that was introduced.

Hey all,
We understand that there are many opinions and suggestions about the game versions and the pre-purchase program. We will continue to read your thoughts and thank you for sharing them.
Thanks for taking into considerations of the opinions and suggestions from the fans. You’ve been one of the main liaison between the fans and developers. Hopefully, you’ll be able to convince your company that many existing player base are unhappy about the fact that they won’t be getting any character slots and will end up paying more to experience the full potential of HoT expansion. Pricing is one issue, but I’m sure most of the existing fan base will be content with the options of getting additional character slots instead.

If you google “gw2 buy” and cache the page. You’ll see the “DIGITAL HERO EDITION” was $40 two hours ago. Now the expansion includes that core game for $50
What? You’re telling me that the new players gets HoT for $10 since $40 was for GW2? Guess Anet’s going to spin this and said, no. Everyone gets HoT for $50 and GW2 was a freebie. This kind of lies won’t win over all the existing players. Those who have principles will not fall for such marketing ploy.

A loyal gw2 player would already have bought several character slots to make one of each profession. I’m sure a loyal gw2 player can spare another 100g to play another new profession if he wants too.
But a loyal gw2 player who felt that they have been betrayed and push around won’t stay loyal right? They’ll end up spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on other games they feel treats their loyal players better.

So if Anet suddenly charged new players 20$ for the base game and 50$ for the expansion, but the expansion remained $50 for upgrading, it would be better?
No. The base game should be $10 since you can buy that during their sales. The expansion for $50 is still too expensive, but some people might at least feel a little more at ease for supporting Anet during all this time. Lots of people bought gems and additional copies of the game at $10 as a way to support Anet. But from what Anet is doing, they are ignoring and pushing out the older players in favor of the newer players.

Are people really screaming and shouting because the game is $50 as opposed to $40? Really?
No. Most of the complaints is that new players gets 2 game for the price of 1 while loyal existing players gotten shafted to rebuying the full game for $50 with nothing to show for except new contents. New players can create a new character with the new profession. Old players will need to fork out additional money or grinding to buy another slot to add the character slot so they can try out the new profession.

For those that missed the E3 stream on guild halls, just the guild hall content alone I would have payed $50 this is going to be amazing. Stop complaining about the price and whether new players get the core game free and watch this.
People like you are why quality standards in the gaming industry have dropped so significantly.
LOL. So true.

You probably did not know this… But every expansion from the original Guild Wars provides added character slots for existing players. Guild Wars 2 is when that tradition break…
Now to be totally off topic. Can I buy this game for $50 RMB? I think I won’t be upset after that.

To clarify: $50 is the price of the expansion. We included the core game as a free bonus to make it easier for new players to get into it.
I think that’s good marketing for new players, but bad marketing for existing players. It’s going to provide existing players a reason to look for alternatives.

they are tricking us into believing that the core game is given free when in fact they are “bundling something that would not have been sold otherwise” to the existing GW2 players…
As long as the bundled core game has a separate code that you can also redeem or sell separately would be fine. That way, you’ll end up with HoT content for $50 and another extra account you can use for storage. If it’s 1 code for both, then it’s basically telling existing GW2 players that their business don’t matter anymore.

Less upset, but still disappointed. No new character slots for existing players? Seriously… $50 for an expansion with no new race and 1 new profession? Hmm… I don’t see how HoT this expansion really is.
i’ll wait until they sell HoT separately, no bundling, at lower price….
We should wait till they sell it for $10 like they did with GW2 recently…

Why not allow us all to buy HOT contents for GEMS instead? Let’s make this fair for all.

I wonder how many core players they’ll lose by doing this rip off expansion idea…

I agree with those who don’t want the core game. Why is the expansion the price of the full game? That does not sound like a price for expansion. The least Anet should do is if you already got the core game, you’ll be given extra character slots. So, if 5 slots are included with HoT (that comes with original game), then those who already got the original game should be given 5 more additional slots.
Flippers (or Auction manipulators in other games) are parasites and leeches, just as stock/FOREX traders are in real life.
In my opinion, items bought from Trading Post should automatically become account-bound, and materials should go into some special part of the bank, from which they could only be used for crafting, so they can’t be resold.
So, should stocks and anything you buy at your local Walmart be account bound too? You should never have the rights to resell anything? If the stuff you no longer want, your only solution is to trash it? Is that your answer for real life items?
Ever since Anet’s implementations of their glicko system, matches were more stale. Maybe Anet ought to go back to what it used to be? Win, move up. Lose, move down. Put some varieties back into these boring matchups. Their rating scale is broken. It barely moves…
Are we still complaining about the trait system? If so, add me to the list of haters. This broken trait system that was implemented for months should’ve been fixed by now. It’s one of the worst ever and detracts from making any alts. I hope everyone who don’t like it stop spending real money in their gem store as a way of show Anet how much support they’ll be getting. Guess whoever cooked up the idea of this horrible trait system forgot to think how he/she will messed up the game for new players and anyone making new characters. Come to think of it, your new characters can make good extra storage slots. Yes, cheap storage slots is what it becomes. You can easily have 100 slots storage. Too bad I can’t find an alternative game yet.
Is there any purpose in doing these dailies now? Rewards are pure trash. Not even 1 laurel for completing it? Lacks purpose. Very poorly thought out. I guess the best rewards are just login and logout. LOL.
I got around 1k crests per day even before this “grind”. I like the zone.
Quoting myself! Yesterday I made around 3k crests as side product while playing the zone for labyrint and chests and other loot.
It does not take that long. I would not call anything a huge grind if it can be done in few hours.
Everyone has a different opinion. But to me, that maze of bumping into dogs and mindless chest farming, mob farming in SW is 99.9% grind… And what’s a few hours? Did you really time yourself? The only way you going to get fast chests is do a constant search for “Breach” and hop over there and repeat itself many times. Either way, it shows the creativity of Anet’s devlopers to find a way to buy time in a almost dead zone?
Anet should consider changing the name of the game to Grind Wars 2. To get armor pieces, one needs to be extremely lucky or grind to hell. You know how much mindless grinding it takes to collect that 1000 bandit crests???
yes… because matches with less than 30 players and that lasted under 20 minutes are a really good comparison to a week long match with hundreds of players across several maps… they totally face the same challenges.
also, Jade Quarry and Fort Aspenwood both had big problems with uneven teams.. so gw1 PvP isn’t the perfect paradise you think it is.
I know it’s not the same challenge, but seriously there are ways to fix it. Also, the only reason it’s a week long match is because Anet changed it after launch of the game for a short period of time. Perhaps, it was to help delayed WvW and put more resources into their PVE aspects?
BTW, AB is in reference to Alliance Battles. The matches won’t start unless the teams had even numbers. It was 12 vs 12. Kurzicks vs Luxons… Was the hot item when it first came out and became completely dead when people realize faster ways of getting factions. Those matches were much more balanced and to me WvW is kind of like a offshoot of it?
Maybe Anet really needs to consider ending seasons until they figure out how to balance matches… As each season comes and goes, players leave the game due to boredom and the distasteful matchups. Not going to say Anet anymore. Guild Wars 2 developers needs to learn how to make a matchups even. Look at the developers for Guild Wars 1? Are they still there? Have they all left and a bunch of new folks came in trying to make something out of nothing? Guild Wars 1 didn’t ever seem to have a problem with matches being even. GVG, RA, TA, AB… name any part of the PVP aspect and it’s pretty much all pointing to the thought process in GW1 was better. Don’t get me wrong, I like GW2 because I don’t need to sit in Kamadan or Lion’s Arch spamming WTS/WTB stuff. But let’s fix this potentially good game before we even consider seasons. Make matches balance. If any team or server loses because of skill, then it’s fine. But if they lose because of numbers… That kind of explains why people are quitting in masses. Big difference in WvW from the time it was release vs now…
Everyone should boycott and avoid the gem store altogether. If we can all avoid it like a disease without a cure, we might succeed in Anet coming out with a cure. It’s sick right now and only good for ripping off the new players. Older players know better and preferred the much better experience with more freedom of choice.
I think the developers of this game is still lost in their own little world. These points changing structure unless taken into effect the players in each map, it won’t even make any sense. Points must be awarded higher for those outmanned. And if server A has 2x more than server B in any given map, then server B’s kills, captures, whatever they are needs to be doubled up. Either you do that or perhaps remove outmanned altogether. If 3 servers are paired and the lowest population is in server C with 15 players in that map, then server A & B can only get 15 in and the rest goes to a queue. If you do this, I bet the game gets balanced much quicker.
All he did was making people aware that some precursors are available for under 100g, which isnt shady or bias. Then other people started discussing the prices of more expensive precursors, which is basically off topic because the thread is about the cheapest precursors.
The dark side of me thinks it’s to bring awareness to an item he/she just bought plenty of and trying to let you all know so people will buy it. Which one is true depends on which side you talking to. Did it ever cross my mind to do that? Hmmm…. I’ll let you be the judge of that.
If you want the item enough and it is readily available, you should just pay that instant buy price. I don’t see any problems with 1c bid higher. If you aren’t willing to pay that price, then put in maximum price and not 1c more and be done with it. If someone outbids you by 1c, it means they want it more than you and it’s not necessarily a bot. I always get outbid by 1c and always undersold by 1c. I know how it feels and there’s not much can be done about it. Unless you want Anet to implement a system where increment bids and sells are at least 5%. 1% is meaningless. If you’re going to implement a system to rid those ridiculous bidders, do at least 5%. So 1000gold item needs bids/lists of either 50g higher or 50g lower.
Right now, Rage is selling for less than 70 Gold. That means the Precursor price dropped by ~22% since this thread was started.
Seriously, only a fool will buy that. The materials and time it takes to complete a legendary is so costly, why would you want trash that you would rarely use? At first, I thought it was dirt cheap at 25-30g which I bought a lot of then I realize that it’s basically very expensive at the end of the day to make a legendary out of it. Why spend over 1000gold in other materials to craft something you rarely use? I think a lot of people realized it and moved on to buy something more useful and not a waste of inventory space.
Is there any server that still has consistent trains and roaming groups?
Yes.. Yes. Those are your answers. Yes, WvW is pretty much dead if you compare it to the launch of GW2. Back then, them q’s can kill you more than the blobs. Consistent trains exists. EOTM and the blobbiest servers will be able to keep trains going. Roaming groups are basically another term for bag donation groups for blobs.
Unfortunately anet’s stance has always been wvw isn’t meant to be fair its meant to be war like.
And in Anet’s mindset, war like is who can bring out the biggest blobs and pound 1 fastest… How many people knows the truth that it doesn’t take skills to be good in WvW. It’s the numbers game. You bring 1, I bring 10, you bring 2 and I’ll bring 20. I’m sure my 20 will kill your 2 after 18 of them falls.
Right…. You do know there were guilds like RG who took on double their numbers and won right?
Yes, but that’s not a matter of doubling the numbers. RG can take on triple their numbers. But the comparisons are in excess of that. Even if your 2 can kill 18, the remaining 2 left with their fast pounding 1 will more than likely end up winning….
A server loyalty buff would be a helpful way to prevent transfers. Maybe some kind of bonus the longer you stay on a server that caps at 3 months time?
3 months would be bogus for showing any loyalty. Make it at least 1 1/2 years or greater.
Transfers needs to be free again. The WvW mode is at a point of being very close to the state of Guild Wars 1 Alliance Battles, “DEAD”. Unless Anet allows free transfers to help balance the game some, many will leave the game for AA.
Unfortunately anet’s stance has always been wvw isn’t meant to be fair its meant to be war like.

Swinging the olde banhammer? That sounds like a funny thing, because I came back 7 months later to find that banhammer hasn’t been used at all. I rather have a thorough fix of banning people who waste supplies/moving defensive siege (some trolls shift defensive trebs to opposite directions).
This griefing has been going on for 2 years. Coming up with a “nice” solution doesn’t fix things. You ban them from coming back into wvw.
Agreed on banning. It is one of the better ways to get rid of trolls for good.
There’s probably many ways that may improve WvW. One easy way will be to make some kind of Alliance as was mentioned before where you paired the most populated WvW server with the least populated WvW server. It’ll help balance things out a bit.
Another option or in addition to pairing would be that the servers/alliances the scoring methods needs some mods. The lowest population of the 3 will determine how the scaling of points be. Example: Server A has 100, Server B has 95, Server C has 25, then the cap points for server C should get a bonus boost. Meaning their caps and kills should be worth 4x the points of server A and server B. For overpopulated servers, it means their advantage of covering all the maps 24/7 aren’t going to create huge scoring differences. What if Server C has 2 people while Server A & B fielding 50? Well… Server C is in luck because their kills and caps are now 25x that of Server A & B. This should be based on total numbers on all maps not single map. If the low population server can manage their people right and take camps here and there, they might even have a chance to lead in the tick…
I’m sure people are noticing that as each WvW season goes into play, you get less and less players returning for WvW in general. It’s reminding me of the death of Alliance Battles in Guild Wars 1. It started out being very popular with hours of waits to being completely dead. The path of WvW is heading that direction without changes.
Sorry, didn’t read everything here but after reading what one of Anet’s staff mention about “Alliances”, I’ll put my two cents in. It’ll probably be the deathblow like it is to “GW1’s Alliance Battles”. What purpose does a server have with Alliances and matches are based on Alliances? Servers will become meaningless even for PVE since there’s something called megaserver. Renaming the servers to the Alliances? Sounds good in theory, but it is basically just hitting the reset button and recreating new dominating servers. It’s like going back to the beginning where there are alliances formed by various guilds for WvW dominations. TA vs AA, but in this case… it’ll be different alliances. It’s going to be hard to try and promote something that is fair for all. Only way Anet can try to make this right is to auto/forced server pairings during WvW fights in which the server that outnumbered the other servers to the extreme are allied and can’t target each other at all. Example: BG vs TC & SOS this week. TC & SOS although gets different colors, they are not going to be “red” for each other and cannot be targetted or killed by one another. They’ll collectively be allowed to attack BG until the score is within 100 points or less. They can turn on each other and their territories can be taken by one another once the gaps are within 100 points. BG’s land can be taken by either SOS or TC. This will balance the matches out best and retains the existing servesr without having to redo the entire renaming of servers based on alliances.
I’m not even sure why we even bother with achievements for WvW. As each new season starts, we’re losing more and more quality players. Truth be told… WvW is not even close to the excitement one would get from when the game first got released. Yes, those were the crazy queues days, but those were the fun times. Nowadys, most players are just part of a blob… Either you are part of the blob or you’ll lose because them zergs are not big enough to fight. Maybe it’s time to merge servers or at least pair them up instead? I think it was mentioned many times before, but it keeps falling on deaf ears. With megaserver, PVE becomes merged… It’s perhaps time to do more merging and or rework the entire structure of WvW. It’s only fun if it’s zerg vs zerg or blob vs blob. It’s never fun if it’s only you vs blobs… I’m sure that happened to a lot of people. We need to balance the game and perhaps, Anet should’ve collected enough data from various servers during all this time of how many people WvW in each server. We can do some kind of balancing by merging the servers. Don’t ever rely on people to try and balance the matches. It didn’t happen before even with many attempts and it will never ever happen.
The purpose of this mechanic has always been to mitigate spawn camping, kill trading, and as an added benefit, it also discourages botting.
The threshold of time before a player is worth WXP (and now also XP/Loot) has not changed, and is low enough that it is almost always the case that a player’s death will award WXP and loot in the time it takes for them to run from a portal keep to a nearby objective.
I’m probably in the minority here. But there should be something that can be done to prevent spawn camping, botting and kill trading. Instead of 0 xp/loot, how about a punishment of some kind to help discourage such behaviors? Like losing 1gold per offense?
I have 4 commander tags. Like many other people who actually use them for something. Will we be able to get a refund for 3 commander tags? You know… since all those people who are now rushing to buy one for only 100g will get a FREE upgrade? (Can you feel that rage if we won’t? I can see people leaving this game.)
OK, enough ranting! How about some SOLUTIONSSSSS…..
Everyone with 1 commander tag -> should still have character bound tag with only blue color (old system) with ability of purchasing the UPGRADE book for additional 200 gold to be enrolled into the new system. OR get a refund and no tag.
Everyone with 2 commander tags -> should still have character bound tag with only blue color (old system) with ability of purchasing the UPGRADE book for additional 100 gold to be enrolled into the new system. OR get a refund and no tag.
Everyone with 3 commander tags -> should be upgraded to the new system.
Everyone with 4 and more tags -> Should be able to get a refund for every next commander tag after the 3rd one. OR be acknowledged for all our hard work and get extra colors.IF people with only one commander tag will get a full upgrade to the new system where some of us paid 300g and more and we wont be allowed to get a refund… well then. Nice way to treat your players anet! I mean really, kudos to you! You sound like reasonable people! I’d love to have friends like that. honest.
Sounds fair to me. This way, we don’t punish the people who purchased the commander tags early and reward those who decides to get them after this announcement of such changes…
actually that is a fair comparison. If I buy 3 oranges today at $1 each, then next week the price changes to 3 oranges for $1 total, it’s not the fault of the orange seller. As far as being tangible, your in-game gold is just as intangible as your in-game commander tag.
Your real world money is just as tangible as your real-world iPad(or oranges, whatever)
umm… you just follow-up with a bad comparison to someone else’s bad comparison? Reason being if I buy 3 oranges today at $1 each and price change in 1 week to $1 for 3, you better believe it. I’m getting my refund back. I never let any company or anyone rip me off that way. Even if it’s a nickel which I spent time to get a refund on. It’s more to do with the principles involved. I have gotten a refund on a watermelon because of $1 change within 2 weeks. So yes… many items are refundable. :-)
As for Anet doing that buy now for 100g to save 200g and not care about the ones who bought multiple tags, the best thing for them to make it fair for all is implement a 300g price tag all around for changing from soul bound to account bound. Those with 3 tags gets merged into 1 new account bound version. Those with more than 3 tags gets a refund of 100g each. Those who got 1-2 tags needs to fork over that 100-200g to upgrade it to account bound. Personally I see that as being the fairest option.
When a gaming company calls colored commander tags “big changes,” it’s pretty obvious what the problem is.
LOL. No arguments there… But, seriously it is a BIG change no? Something new other than just another tournament season?
You knew that commander tags might become account bound, yet bought them anyways. The money wasn’t “wasted”. You spent it and got what you wanted. We have to make choices, and that means guessing at what’s going to happen in the future. Do you complain that you bought an ipad 2 a year before the ipad 3 came out, and then go to apple saying “it’s not fair, I want a refund” or do you realize you got use out of the ipad before the new one came out, and you got exactly what you paid for?
Not everyone had the foresight and crystal ball that you have to see that everything that Anet does will become account bound. If that was the case, everyone will hold off buying stuff.
Comparing apple to commander tags is completely different. One is tangible and one isn’t. Not even worth comparing. Besides, I never own an ipad and no intentions to ever own one.
Maybe this has been already answered, but is there an official word from Anet about those who have purchased and used more than 1 commander books on their other toons on the same account? I read something about refunds for those who purchased more than 3, but the first 3 you are out of luck because you were dumb enough to have overpaid? Also, the refunds appears to be only 100g for each in excess of 3. I guess that’s Anet’s way of being fair? Those commander icons aren’t just popular in WvW. I seen plenty in Lion’s Arch.
Why dont they make the colours simply random, with a 33% chance to get it. It only affects eternal battleground as other 3 maps are all the same.
I thought that was experimented before but it didn’t last long.
Typically, when I go to WvW, and I see a zerg fight, or 10+ on each side, I will stay for the fight. If outnumbered or less than 3 on each side, I will use a very smart strategy… Run run run to my side of a zerg or blob and have my side wipe you. I then proceed to collect my badge and see what I can get with it.
