has anyone from Anet spoken about the stealth issue? or is it just a localised lag issue? maybe you all need faster internet connections and not a fix for the game.

^ This also comes to mind. If you’re playing with over 100 ping, and you expect someone like me NOT to have an advantage with my ~50-70 ping, then you’re just being crazy. In that scenario, no matter WHAT you do with your 100+ ping, I will always have an advantage, regardless of class/build choice. So will others. It’s the same thing as having 30-60fps vs 15fps. It becomes night and day in certain cases.

And I do know for a fact that the laggier you are, the more the player culling and stealth-lag tends to come up. From what I’ve seen it’s a rather linear relationship. So yeah, you can’t do much there, because the world’s routers aren’t ALL connected by ODBC3 lines or higher. Bad ping? TOO BAD, but that’s not anet’s servers/netcode or faulty class balance. That’s on YOU.

I don’t mention that in the video, but yes, if any of them are lagging a lot (not talking about framerate, talking about LATENCY), then yea, it’s very possible a LOT of weird stuff is happening on their screen, not just culling. Again though, they couldn’t ALL be lagging in that clip, right? This is the whole benefit of the doubt thing, where I’m sick of giving it to others, because I know better.

He’s saying that he is disproving the stealth bug. It’s obvious that given tunnel vision in zergs people don’t see everything. However, given a 1 v 1 setting or small scale battles where you’re focusing on the rogue stealth issues are evident and it’s a broken mechanic. People going around saying it isn’t stealth lag but only brain lag are well, brain lagged themselves.

I’m not denying the existence of the stealth lag, or of the rendering issue. I AM disproving that it happens as often as people imply.

I am saying that often times (I’d say 9/10 times) when players die to a thief and blame stealth lag, it’s actually not stealth lag or player culling, it’s the brain/eyesight lag I described in the video.

I’ve been instagibbed by culled zerg and had thieves that actually did stealth-lag (and still died to me, btw). It doesn’t happen often outside 50+ vs 50+, it happens once in a blue moon.

I ofc transmuted them, so they have carrion instead of zerker prefixes.

now… can you make your thief tip his hat and say: “the names django…” :P?

I’ve been looking into that, but it’s a challenge to have an in-game anet staff take you seriously when you ask for a /tiphat emote.

In the meantime, I found a gangster-grip animation that I’ll likely use as an intro screen for future vids.

Yielded a possible intro pic for future videos. Gangsta grip ftw! Who cares about aiming, right?

Stealth Cooldown Needed > min 2-5 seconds after last Stealth

Invisible opponents that can take 80% of a person health away in a single burst under 2 seconds is a valid complaint since there is few ways to actually stop it before it hits and then the thief vanish’s again. Necro can take the hit and fight back against it most times if the skills are up they need, same with guardians. Warriors shouldn’t have a issue taking the first burst but engineers, Mesmer (if know its the real one), ele’s, and other thieves will die before they have a chance to fight back in most cases not to mention if they are already lower on health.

If you’re going to go there, how about talking about confusion/condition mesmers that can 100-0 your 20k+ hp in 1 daze from the offhand pistol? How about the Moa elite? How about necros that have 3-4x their effective HP pool and still a metric ton of dps? How about warriors that can kill you in literally 2 seconds, no matter what class you are? How about eles who can stack 25 might and 2-3hit u.

I mean, I can go on, feel free to ask me about more examples, and then ask yourself: is a thief’s glass cannon burst really that much harder to avoid?

The point stands, that ppl like to complain about invisible opponents the most, regardless of how strong/weak they are. It’s annoying, it’s tiring, it’s banal, and it’s typical bads QQ-ing about things they shouldn’t QQ about.

Another thread whining about invisible opponents. Because it’s SO IMPORTANT that you need to see your opponent to kill them, right?

This is a long-standing tradition in every MMO. No matter how weak or strong the stealth classes were, they were ALWAYS the ones that ppl whined about the most.

Of course he was culled out in that situation. The fact that he would try to pass off rendering and culling issues as players not being aware of their surroundings is flat out dishonest. What we need are mature players providing proper feedback, not people defending their own class with laughable crap.

Ask yourself. How come ALL OF THEM ARE VISIBLE TO ME? 99% of the time, this means I am visible to THEM. In fact, you can see some of thm turn towards me, you can see a mesmer and ranger at the front start attacking me. I am 99.9% certain I am not culled in that clip, I am visible to pretty much everyone’s client, because they are ALL visible to me throughout the entire video.

Please stop defending players that are clearly bad, and stop giving anet more excuses to water the game down.

Yes, player culling exists, but player culling is NOT the issue in this example of brain/eyesight lag.

C’mon get serious I was owning people with my thief drunk with 10 hours played with my thief. Of course any class can 1vs2 or 1vs3, but the skill needed is way different. Seriously don’t you dare compare the complexity of a Thief vs a Ele or a Necro…

As for the end part it just proves nothing. Obviously, the footage is not good to demonstrate the point, but I may get the idea that people have tunnel vision and don’t see enemies all the time. This is very true for general large fights where some thieves will play with zergs and get away with it and yes it is blown out of proportion because it doesn’t happen very often. Thing is it’s probably because thieves are simply having too much fun running around killing people everywhere while escaping easily when things get hairy.

However the tunnel vision not related to the problem with thieves in duels. The real problem does have a thing to do with rendering, but it’s mostly that you can stealth so often that you force people to watch 360 degrees every time you stealth. The view in this game is horrible for that and the best you can view is 180 degrees or a very short range 360 degrees view so fighting a thief is pretty much flipping a coin every time the thief stealth hoping hoping to catch him in your current view and that, while the thief can still open on people and get a few free hits every single time.

It’s so obvious in your videos how often and how badly your opponents are puzzled by the stealth with absolutely no way of dealing that I really can’t see why you would ignore the broken mechanic and blame the tunnel vision instead.

1) The end proves EVERYTHING. I am unstealthed, within attack range of at least 10 ppl behind me, and come into range of at least 10 ppl in front of me. You even see some of them turn right towards me. I am unstealthed most of the time, so there is no WAY they would not see me render. As the video says it’s an EYESIGHT and BRAIN lag issue. Do not confuse player mistakes with a class being too strong at something.

2) Ele or necro may be more complex, in terms of having more skills to time but is NOT more complex in terms of positioning, mind-reading, etc. I can tell you that I personally don’t ever need to read someone’s mind on my necro, aside from staying on them as they kite. I just faceroll, without really paying attention to what they’re trying to do. Yes, ele/necros take more thought/experimentation to initially to learn, yes, there’s more to memorize than a thief. No, they are not ‘harder to play’ in all respects. They are just DIFFERENT.

3) You seem to again be missing ALL the stealth spamming thieves that I destroy in my videos. You don’t need to be constantly watching 360 degrees around you. I will repeat: you don’t need to SEE your opponent to fight them! I go Zatoichi on their a’s all the time.

4) Thieves are WEAK at direct/up-front combat. I know this from personal experience and from destroying other thieves that would be 1-2 seconds too late on stealthing (with not only thief, but necro and warrior as well).

5) The opponents might be puzzled, but you’re lying when you say they have no way to deal with it. Again, you don’t need to constantly SEE your opponent to fight them. Think of it like the high-speed DBZ fights. Also, see #2 again, and see what I personally do against stealthers. Notice I DON’T keep spinning my camera, I simply predict where they are going to unstealth, because if they unstealth anywhere else, THEY ARE NOT A THREAT.

Here lies a good proof at how kitten stealth is in this game.

Played the crap out of thief when it was harder in BWE2 and BW3 and even then I realised how cheap it was so I didn’t make one for launch.

Have fun with your noob class bro !

I see someone didn’t watch the very end of the video, for an explanation of the stealth lag/culling bug.

And I see you also ignored that 1v2 vs 2 80 thieves I purposely started the vid with. Do you have any idea how many times I wreck thieves, both on my thief and necro? I mean.. Just count how many of the clips in all my videos have at least 1 thief in them. (hint: it’s a lot)

Now, I’m not trying to downplay thief viability here, but obviously a lot of ppl are blowing this out of proportion, because it’s a very old and popular trend for ppl to whine the most about opponents they cannot always SEE.

There’s videos out there now of an ELEMENTALIST 1v3+ ing ppl:

Plus, any melee can walk up to you and kill you with 2-3 crits. Also, there’s certain instants from range that go right through, like ele/necro scepter, mesmer greatsword auto, etc, etc.

Now, if you said Haste + Dagger Storm, then I’d actually be saying “hey that’s actually a pretty strong combo”.

In all honesty, I think it’s a really, REALLY carebear decision, to not allow you to see enemy player names in WvW. Too many sensitive nerds, that don’t want to be known as ‘1 of the scrubs who got owned in the 5v1’.

I’d really like to see their names sometime. Not that I’d PM them. Just to know who it is I kill. I am a fan of personal kills over impersonal kills, because they are more memorable. I mean.. At least show the names if they die – in war, you could always just take a dead soldier’s dogtags/etc and find out, so if anet was aiming for realism, show the names when they die.

No, bull rush knocks you down even if you stand still. If they start it close range, you won’t see the animation soon enough. Good wars always nail me with it right after a dodge, and if I don’t have a stunbreak/blind up, I usually die even with my 19khp and extra toughness.

Play some tourneys in sPvP while you’re at it. Notice how most top tier paid tourney teams don’t have thieves in them? There’s a reason for that.

And FYI, if you’re dying to someone spamming heartseeker, you need to step back and look at yourself, and figure out what you’re doing wrong. The glass-cannon thieves you watch out for are the ones that save init for stealth and throw dagger.

Just for kicks, the intro will be a 1v2 versus 2 stealth-spamming melee thieves in it, and at the end theyre dead and I’m at over half hp. So you can then see, without a doubt, that you’re bad.

Stealth is the only real defensive mechanism thieves have, and it only avoids targeted+ranged attacks. Eyesight is not the only way to tell where someone is.

Yeah, those gold spammers are starting a rebound. Instead of using mail, they use chat/etc. And I’ve heard/seen many players now joke about how “they’d rather buy from the gold spammers than the gem store”, because that way, they can at least “afford a precursor, or a decent amount of gold”.

They aren’t even talking about whether they will or will not buy gold with dollars (which already tells me how serious this situation is, normally they’d be debating the ‘ethics’ of it all instead, but no, precursors and endgame is THAT strict/unfun). They’re debating: gold seller or anet. And gold seller usually comes up more, regardless of the huge risk to their account. Because, sadly, they’d rather risk an account ban in order to get some more enjoyment, rather than continue to try to play normally for the legendary.

You can expect to spend even more than that. Who knows? You might have to spend double that amount. It’s RNG.

Imagine you had a 50% chance to gain a precursor. On average you should get one after only 2 attempts. But with just a little bit of bad luck it could easily take you six tries to get your first one. That means your investment was 3x bigger than average.

Same thing can happen with really low RNG. You might spend the average which is estimated at 300g OR you could get a bit unlucky and have to spend 3x that amount which is already 900 gold. So good luck.

Or you could get it on your first try and net a profit of close to 300g.

Your post is pointless.

For every player who nets a profit of 300g in 5mins, there are usually over 1000 players who lose 300g+ for nothing. Explain that please, and don’t give me that “legendaries are meant for only a few” crap, because then obviously the players who luck out on legendaries are not the least bit deserving of them. Slic.2406

So it would be better if everyone would get such a legendary weapon within days or weeks of ‘normal playing’? I doubt it and it wouldnt be worth to be called ’legendary;.

Personally, I think it would. People like me, who only care about character aesthetics and care nothing for displaying “achievements”, just want pretty skins. To be honest, I look down on people who care too much about showing off, standing out in a crowd, and being “special”. What’s wrong if everyone has the pretty skins they want? Can you not value the item on its aesthetics alone? Why does it matter if other people also have that item?

Because most people can’t do something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxVmWaprNDY

Or (GW2-related example):
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdRu-1piROblxmQL9HcyqJKzgITtf9TTg

And have to compensate, otherwise they’ll fail at lying to themselves and realize they’re pathetic/bad. Not joking; human psychology 101. And that’s why we get things like legendaries which take ridiculous amounts of time/luck to get, instead of being available to anyone who is actually a good/exceptional gamer.

I’d rather legendaries not be gated by luck, in-game wealth and generally boring/unskilled/overly-time-consuming things. But, that’s likely a business decision on anet’s part, since ovewhelming majority of MMO-ers are on the bad/pathetic side and value those things over skill, timing, talent and hand-eye coordination.

Every time? Uh, no. The fact that precursors definitely exist mean it can’t possibly be something that happens every time. People might take you a smidge more seriously if you stopped with that sort of ridiculous exaggeration in every single post you make about this topic.

No, it’s every time. To follow the analogy, whenever someone DOES finally get a precursor, instead of being sent up into the sky by an up-smash and dying, the N64 suffers a power failure and they then proceed to go out to the beach and get their surf on.

You’re looking way too much into my comments. Take them for face value, if you don’t believe me, go find the evidence yourself. Ask players in-game, look up youtube videos, etc. It’s all there.

It’s nothing racist, Korean mmo’s are infamous for their RNG and heavy grinding. I’ve played more than a few of them, and what really strikes me as odd is that the grind in those games actually made some sense because the gear really was better but in this game its not. It just makes no logical sense to call something legendary if it has the same stats as an exotic.

^ This. That’s a great point to add to my Korean RNG tirade. For a purely cosmetic weapon (you’re not going to be killing anything faster just because you have a legendary), the method of acquiring it is a little too.. frustrating? unjust? unfair? not fun? The list goes on..

I hope you’re paying attention to this anet. This is but one of the countless. The exodus is only going to accelerate at an exponential rate, unless you remove your stupid Korean RNG mechanics from the game.

Look, you really don’t have to be so dramatic about it… You used “korean” as a negative adjective so many times now you could be classified as a racist.

Unlike us, Arena Net has to put a lot more thought into their actions and statements. They wouldn’t make an official response and then just ignore the whole issue. All things considered, a few days isn’t that long of a wait at all. The legendaries aren’t going anywhere.

I’m sure Anet will talk to us again about this when they’re ready to give us some solid new info.

Sorry, this is a no-brainer and easy to code. This system should not exist as part of an economy. Legendary implies that it’s not something whose main component you’re supposed to find on the market.

One of their Jr Developers can spend 1-2hrs and add some random NPC that sells precursors of your choosing for 100-500g, and make w/e the NPC sells account/soul bound, problem solved. Nothing gets harmed, and lots of players get to keep their sanity and satisfaction with the game. As a bonus, the godskull exploiters, etc. that have been profiting by selling precursors at 200-400g are also thwarted.

And yes I DO have to be dramatic, because it IS dramatic. Players are leaving because of this, players are unhappy because of this, and the more players reach 80 and get their exotic gear squared away, the more players become discontent.

New gen gaming industry = ’Let’s add Korean RNG, because EVERYONE LOVES THAT! Who need fun, skill, timing and actually using your brain right??’.

Sure, but I’m lazy, so if you want proof. Find it yourself, like I have.

Search youtube, hear their commentary, see the soul-crushing results of Korean RNG. Search other forums, read the results, see the mood and ask them if they still log in to actually play. Ask in-game players that have used over 200g on just the precursor, if they log in, ask them if they will continue to log in.

Don’t take MY word for it, go and see it all for yourself. While some continue to play, others do not.

Here's the thing about "getting" a legendary, give or take 3 years.

I have gotten a royal flush at least 5 times during my lifetime, 4 of which were for money stakes, and 1 of which put me under physical threat. And I still refuse to gamble on the Mystic Forge’s stupid Korean RNG of a precursor recipe. That should tell you everything you need to know about how obnoxiously insulting the current system is to the user’s time and dignity.

No, that just tells us all we need to know about your ability to understand odds.

And we already knew how you felt about the “Korean” random number generator, since you post about it in every single thread about legendary precursors.

Yeah, well apparently I’m not posting enough, because there’s still no red response to any of the player concerns. Poker is way more enjoyable, rng/luck-wise, and you get to play for actual money, attracting all sorts of competitive opponents. AND. I didn’t need to get those royal flushes to still come out ahead at the end of the day.

Here, I’m not competing against anyone, but I’d still need a royal flush to win ANYTHING. Sorry, but I don’t roll that way, and since I have the time and a 4G cell phone, I don’t even need to be at my desktop to post. So, I’m going to see just how much evidence and player discontent anet need in order to start making changes at a reasonable pace.

Consider this yet another bump by me.

TL;DR – You won’t ever get your precursor, but out of the 100,000 players next to you, 1 person will get it in the 1st 10 tries. Korean RNG system is insulting and is now making players quit the game (usually permanently). Believe it or not, this is likely to have a noticeable influence on Anet’s future income.
