It is absolutely mind boggling to me how people can seriously compare a video game poll to political elections. It is like comparing apples to Buicks.
And I still completely disagree with your rationale, Smooth. Having a certain rank doesn’t mean a thing about ‘expertise’. All it is is a time measurement.
Again, the point I was making was that there are some who either don’t understand or don’t care about the vote results. Everyone’s gotta live with it, even if the results end up being bad. To further clarify, I’m not insinuating that DBL is bad. I’m speaking generally on any survey or vote in which people who don’t understand what they’re voting for, vote anyways.
Part time players who visit WvW only to do dailies don’t understand the struggles War Councils put up with to sustain the game mode. Some players make WvW their primary game mode, and thus would/should have more of a say to what Devs should focus on. That’s my personal opinion, of course.
I also pointed out that I do understand Anet’s side of it all. They made this game for anyone and everyone, so having the survey open to a large amount of players would be the correct thing. At this point I’m talking out both sides of my mouth, I know, but I’m trying to acknowledge different sides of the argument.
I would say Guardians are unkillable, because everytime I get near one, my HP drops to 25% because of traps. For Eles, just make sure you bring a lot of Conditions. They wear down because they have limited mass condi cleanse. Interrupt their heals, and they die.
GM Gus said on Reddit that you should look for a 4th Gen Intel based unit. Apparently, the 4th gens have a better single core processing rating, which is what GW2 needs the most.
I’d like to add that Maguuma is one of THE best servers in all the game.
Farewell CD! We have had a wonderful partnership with you. SBI Loved being with you! Miss you bunches!
We built you a Treb Forest on the BL for you! <3 <3~Milly
That picture is glorious.
Except they don’t. There are massively divergent views among wvw vets about what works and what doesn’t. Moreover time in wvw doesn’t translate into expertise.
And, btw, the direct application of what you’re calling for and your Brexit analogy is restricting the vote to senior citizens….
Point 1) You’d get a more accurate feedback if it’s from the WvW vets. Even if the survey percentages show DBL remaining, at least there’d be less question to it.
Point 2) It’s not like restricting votes to seniors, but rather restricting votes to people who understand the outcome and consequences. Sorta like what happened in the US when Trump won the GOP primary.
I have a suggestion, I was thinking that you guys could probably get some more revenue if you offered a Patron Membership.
Patron $10 to $15 per month.
Offer perks such as
Remote Bank, BLTP access.
Free Waypoints
Increased gathering rate.
Magic Find Bonus
Some sort of generic not fancy Infinite Gathering tool.
Maybe either a discount or Gem voucher.I suggest this because you guys don’t always put things in the store I’m interested in buying, I realize that content isn’t free people have to get paid, the more revenue you have the faster we get content updates and the bigger they are.
Just some food for thought, you can still keep offering the daily log in rewards and keep things the same for non Patrons, I just want a consistent way I can show support except through sporadic purchases.
How about a compromise to this idea? How about for every player that purchases at least $15 in Gems per month, they would get access to Mounts? That way, this system wouldn’t be considered a “VIP Membership”, but players willing to provide income to Anet would benefit with extra perks?
Let me put this survey into perspective using a real life situation. In England, a small majority voted to leave the EU. People without the knowledge of what would happen had their votes count, and now we’re looking at a world-wide economic crisis.
While that example is quite extreme, the point I initially made was that WvW players have a different mindset than non-WvW players. Players with thousands of hours in WvW know what works and what doesn’t. Non-WvW players might just log in to get dailies done, and might not care about the outcome of battles or server victories. But McKenna did state that the metrics Anet has shows a healthy and active WvW presence with those that responded.
Anet is in the position that they need to make the game enjoyable to everyone, thus the inclusion of Rank 10 and above in their survey. I do understand that you can’t just focus on the hardcore WvWers. On the flip side, those hardcores are the ones that keep WvW fun and enjoyable. When there was an exodus of players taking a break, the mode wasn’t as fun (well, in T1 and T2 anyways).
WvW relies on players on all sides to be actively playing in order for that game mode to be fun. Zergs rolling over a handful of players isn’t fun, nor is an empty server PvDing Towers and Keeps. This is why I personally think surveys with WvW should be targeted towards more active players. Instead of Rank 1000, maybe Rank 500 or so as the threshold? or 400? Rank 10 or playing just 1 hour per week is most likely someone getting their dailies.
But still, all of this doesnt change a simple FACT:
T6 Mats ->
Cloth: 0.8s
Leather: 20s
Wood: 10s
Ore: 5sYou call this balanced? I dont. I call this a total failure.
I wouldn’t call this a failure. It’s more along the lines of smart people seeing an opportunity to invest in T6 leather commodities.
Merchants hiding under Auric Basin Grand Chests are the most annoying. But even with a name plate on who spawned it, you can’t see it under the chest.

I’m pretty sure that gliding capes have already been suggested in this thread, Glider Suggestions, but you could always suggest it again.
Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. Someone beat me to it.
Oh H.E. double hockey sticks NO. Already seen how corrupt those “war councils” can be. I’ll keep my vote thanks.
You’d be surprised how many of these secret War Council meetings made the game fun for the entire population.
As a dedicated wvw player for the past four(?) years without interruption, I say yes without equivocation. The principle audience is people who play wvw, no matter how much. The goal is to make wvw fun and appealing to the greatest number of people to keep it alive, not to cater to the few diehards like me who’ve stuck with it for unclear reasons.
That’s a good attitude to have.
I don’t want Anet to stop communicating with the players. It’s more about how can they get the most accurate feedback to the Devs. If the voting is lop sided like the last one, a bunch of rogue votes won’t matter. But what if the next vote is close?
There are players like me who play all game modes, and there are some who only play WvW. How do we dig into the mindset of the dedicated WvWer without alienating casual pugs that Anet wants playing too?
Edit – Thanks McKenna for the reply.
(edited by Smooth Penguin.5294)
The poll is open to all players but is only actively marketed to WvW players because only they receive an ingame mail about it when they rank up in WvW.
The underlying question would be “which player votes would accurately reflect WvW players”. I mean, I’ve gained only a handful of ranks in the past several months. I get a mail saying to vote, but should my vote really count if I’m not a dedicated WvWer?

I’ve solved the age old mystery about how to fix clipping on capes. Make them a glider skin, and when you’re flying, the cape will flow outwards, away from your body. In fact, real life physics of capes and an angled decent means the cape will have a partially upwards tilt. This is the perfect compromise to get capes back into the game. Plus, it’s more microtransaction income for Anet.
I’m simply suggesting a way to get an accurate number. I admit that going by rank alone doesn’t justify accuracy. Heck, I played a lot of WvW up to a year ago. My rank is around 1500 I think, but I didn’t vote because I personally felt that I shouldn’t have a say. My thoughts were that if I don’t play WvW a lot anymore, why should I vote on changes that don’t affect me.
On the flip side to my suggestion (and will probably be highly unpopular) would be to allow the Tier War Councils to coordinate with Anet. They have restricted meetings with the top commanders to work out map politics. These are the people who know what’s best for WvW play, so they could give Anet their feedback. Basically the 1% voting on what the other 99% will get. Not the best idea, but an idea none-the-less.
I’d like to start off with a statement. I love that Anet is communicating with the players, and that they’re using our feedback to make adjustments to the game. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Now that’s out of the way, I’d like to ask a question. My deepest apologies if someone asked it already in a thread somewhere. Since the surveys are open to all players, how valid are the poll results if it includes players who don’t play WvW? This came up because I have WvW friends being upset with the end result of the voting.
Having a background and degree in marketing, it concerns me that thousands of players who don’t WvW are having their feedback counted. On one hand, it’s good that Anet is being inclusive to everyone. But on the other, the voices of WvWers are being drowned out by the masses of people voting “just to vote”. Sort of like political polls asking which candidate they like, as compare to asking registered voters the same question. One poll result will outweigh the other.
A suggestion to future WvW surveys – Limit responses to players with a minimum WvW rank. Something like a threshold of Rank 1000. It’s low enough that a casual WvWer would be able to achieve in the last 3 years of playing, but high enough to sort out those who don’t play WvW enough to have a say. Or an alternate suggestion would be to give weight to players with higher ranks, allowing their votes to count more. Rank 1000 gets +1 vote, 1500 gets +2, 2000 gets +3, and so on. That way, the dedicated WvWers who care more about the game mode will feel that their voice does matter.
This isn’t a matter of leaving players out. It’s more about getting accurate feedback. I’m sure if there were PvP surveys about making major changes, the PvPers would be upset if non-PvPers outvoted them.
With elections happening all over the world this year, wouldn’t it be appropriate for Anet to have Ellel Kiel have to run for re-election for her Captain’s Council seat? It would make for a very interesting Living World season to have Kiel battle Gnashblade in a rematch of player voting.
We could have Gem Store tie-in campaigns, themed campaign flag backpieces, and the good ole Gems for Votes option to buy your candidate to victory! It’s a great opportunity to drive microtransaction sales if you could spend real money to decide the fate of a storyline. I’m sure it would be pirate approved.

Haha @ people arguing physiology in a fantasy game where, for example, a tiny Asura can wield a massive two handed hammer and smash a giant. Forum PvP because reasons.
Getting back on topic, I want to roll a chubby asura and charr. If I could, I would do the same for all my female human toons. I have a stash of makeover kits just waiting for the day I can make my girls big.
You know what they say – Big is beautiful (for all races). Quaggans are a good example of this.
I dont know what to think anymore, my mind is really confused….then…why play a game that doesnt reward you at all and only seeks to take from you?
I play to meet girls in Divinity’s Reach RP circles. That, and the game is fun for PvE too.
They also have a high incidence of knee problems.
Who needs knees when you can have mounts? Just saying.
Diversity isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but in this case it would be completely immersion-breaking. With all of that fighting and running around, I can’t see any character being chubby.
In Japan, Sumo are some of the healthiest and athletic people on the planet. In wrestling, The Big Show can do a moonsault.
Guys you are missing the point, dont take into consideration the conversion, see it as a means to ruin the economy.
I mean its amazing to be able to buy gem store items for gold,am i right? But the point is that this creates a barrier that arena net doesnt understand that it can create issues with the game economy.
I like to talk with examples if you havent understood by now ^^,
Ex. I buy 500gold worth of gems and convert em into 500gold, now i have enough gold to play the market without any effort into the game in a matter of seconds, the richer u are = more power to you.
On the contrary a player that dedicates hours upon hours of grinding, yes i said grinding, gets much less in return, considerably much less.
Isnt that a direct result in the rewards as well? Meaning you get rewarded less and you are more frequently directed to the gem-gold conversion. :/
Am i the only one that sees it this way? :/
No, you only see it that way because you don’t understand how the in-game economy works in conjunction with the Gem Exchange.
Exchanging Gems for 500 Gold doesn’t affect the economy one bit. It’s existing currency that you’re buying with real money. If you decide to “play the market” with your 500 Gold, you’re then losing 15% of it due to the gold sink tax each time you sell something you bought. All potential profits come from existing gold in game, so in the grand scheme of things, you’re removing gold from the economy with each flip. You might be getting richer, but 15% of your transaction totals disappear from the world.
The player who grinds content is the one generating new wealth from coin drops. Be it bags of loot to dungeon clear chests. These are newly generated currency that didn’t exist before they got the loot/reward. This is one of the only ways new currency goes into the game economy. Daily rewards is the only other way currency is added.
TL:DR – You get less money personally by relying solely on loot drops. The game world loses money when you play the TP. All working as intended.
Like real life, people in Tyria come in all different shapes and sizes. While there are some “thicker” options when in your character customization, there’s no “chubby”. I think it’s time for more diverse settings to make your character look the way you want them to look. There’s already a slider for height, so why not a slider for width?
My goal is to make my asura a super cute ball of joy (almost quagganesque), and my charr to look like Clawhauser from Zootopia. But with the current options, I’m limited with sleak to fierce looks.
Even though I’m on the losing vote, we appreciate you communicating with us MO.
My toes stick out when I wear my flippy-flops. Nothing wrong with asura boots in this regard.
Now if they would just make some skimpy outfits for asura and charr, my life would be complete.
~snip~
Unfortunately, you misunderstand both how Gem → Gold and the economy overall works. I’ll see if I can link you the threads that John posted in…. from 3 years ago.
why not just let us choose in game which version we want. whether male or female.
This should be an option for all armor types for all races. If my male norn wants to wear a dress, I should be able to pick that in my wardrobe.
Six or none!
A more sleek version tailored for Charr and Asura females would allow for some femininity without looking like they’d just been stuffed into the ported over male chestplate.
But either would be an improvement over boobplate on races that don’t even have boobs.
It really makess the ridiculousness of sexualising only one genders armour more obvious when you see it outside the accepted humanoid female context eh?
MO’s thread touches on another topic: Should there be 2 plates or 6 on female charr. It seems we should call for a Reddit Q & A with lore Devs on what asura and charr anatomy should be.
As I stated before, I personally think that if you have a human-like creature (charr, asura, skritt, centaur, etc), they should all have human-like features.
No MO. Female asura and charr deserve to have feminine looks.
So if we side by kiel we get more content & lore? Sounds good to me, down with the charr
You’re not supposed to make a deal with the devil to get what you want. Kiel is bad news, I’m telling you!
That’s not even my biggest issue, or anywhere near it. Can anyone explain why this is necessary?
http://puu.sh/psPeB/1b957cfdf2.jpg
http://puu.sh/psP43/a0bf4488a3.jpgEven if my charr had breasts to hide, which she doesn’t, they wouldn’t be that low down on her body.
I’m all for variety in armour, and I understand that ‘scantily clad’ is the only setting female characters get with new armour releases, but on a charr? Why?
I’m fine with dresses, even if my female charr would never wear a dress. To each their own. More power to the sparklecats. But a bra? Bramour? ON A CHARR?
Urgh. I mean, I didn’t like medium armour anyway because of the face on the back, but this problem isn’t limited to the medium weight class:
http://puu.sh/psPHk/d74aac6668.jpg
http://puu.sh/psPPx/6dc6814f6a.jpgI’m not going to go into some big long rant about gender, diversity, and tolerance. I’m not gonna spit the dummy and say I’ll never buy gems again. I’m just gonna say I don’t like this shift towards more feminine female charrmour. I want charr-bras and charr-dresses to be the rarity, not the norm, if we really must go in this direction.
Sure, the option is great to have for those who want to take it, but some of us don’t play Charrbies or glamkitties or sparklecats, and we’d like new armour options that reflect that.
Finally! Female charr have been waiting for more armors to show off their femininity. Human-like cats should have human-like features!
Down with Evon Gnashblade who opresses us with his 15% sales tax. It is time to expropriate Evon and give everything to Kiel.
Now now. Evon’s 15% TP tax helps to keep the economy stable. Without it, there’d be massive currency problems Tyria-wide. And without him, you wouldn’t have anyone to facilitate the conversion of Gold to Gems.
Mind you, if Kiel were to impose a similar tax, a portion would probably go towards building a new Mursaat temple for her overlords.
But yellow wasn’t her favorite color.
But it appears that she likes the color white on her mantle.
There are signs and hints that the White Mantle has been in the shadows for hundreds of years, and that some have even infiltrated the politics of Tyria. I’ve been worried for years, and now it all makes sense. Some White Mantle have been hiding in plain sight, trying to build respect and trust of the people in order to stake a come back. The main agent in power, I believe, is none other than Ellen Kiel.
Think about it. She committed violent acts in the past (blowing up a ship in Southsun). She somehow manages to win an election over the most respected charr in all the land. Lion’s Arch was destroyed because the Captain’s Council she was elected to just coincidentally left the air defenses empty. And what ever happened to all the stolen gold that she supposedly “returned” to the people? I fear that the next thing will happen is that she’ll ban all sylvari from LA because of what happened with Mordremoth.
We need to wake up. Evon Gnashblade is our only hope. Join the cause and demand that Ellen Kiel be remove from the Captain’s Council before it’s too late. We need a new election!

I think a good compromise to real life events and social justice would be having flags at half mast. That was a great idea Cobra. It shows support without having to make it obvious. No need for press releases. No explanations. Just something in game that shows someone cares, and players who see it can make their own conclusions as to what it means. Sorta like how we find Easter Eggs that Devs put in, and we only find out about them 3 years later.
I understand Squee. I merely suggested it, and even said in my OP that I hope they put it “on the table”. Yes a company doesn’t have to take a stance on anything. But with this game’s previous decisions, you see a lot of inclusive content. Homosexual NPCs in the main story. A transgender NPC in a major town. Social justice isn’t just about shouting fairness, it’s about showing it. That’s why I love Anet and its management team. They weren’t afraid to include different types of characters. And that’s why I make these suggestions to help further recognition. If it happens, great. If not, I still love Anet. Win/Win.
Showing love to those that are hurt is not political. With the Pride March, Anet Devs responded positively to that. France lit up the Eiffel Tower to show support. It’s people being human.
So first of all, No.
Second any company taking a definitive, publicly stated, stance on a politically charged issue is big no-no.
Third, topic like this is just going to bring more hate at you.
Why would you hate “equality”? Is there’s something wrong with wanting fairness for people, or show support to those that hurt?
What this comes down to is that Anet took something we were drowning in, gave it some uses, made some changes, and now it’s high demand. I don’t agree with constantly asking Anet to make adjustments to satisfy the community. Where does it stop? Prices are high, so ask to make it lower. If they made it lower, some would ask to give it more options, and thus demand would boosts prices again. Just leave it where it is. It’s not like these mats are rare. Playing any HoT meta should give enough drops to salvage.
I fully support the community driven Pride March to support the LGBT community’s pain over recent events. While players themselves have taken the steps to show their love to our fellow man, I’d like to see Anet take a step with us and show how great a company they are. I have two main ideas:
- 1) Pride Capes. We need colorful rainbow capes. Yes I know that the Devs have a hard time introducing capes due to charr body shape mechanics, so a compromise would be a Pride Flag backpiece! It would be similar to the Guild Back or Mist Herald Back. Imagine all the players showing their support with free rainbow backpieces! Or instead of it just being given out, maybe there would be an event tie-in with Sya. Complete quests and get tokens to exchange for rainbow goodies with Jory, Kas, and Sya. Be sure to include rainbow party poppers and fireworks!
- 2) Rainbow Loin’s Arch. Anet should consider putting up rainbow flags and banners all across the city for a week. The splash of colors would be uplifting and full of love.
Anet is one of the most welcoming game companies out there. I hope MO puts my ideas on the table.
Yeah there’s still stuff to get done. But alas, a lot of what’s remaining is basically grind. My Pact Mastery is on the last tier, and that’s gonna take me a lot of XP unless I dungeon speed run. Monster kill achievements are doable, but again just grind.
I chose to grind things to get to 30K, but since I hit my goal, I’m looking for meaningful things to do. Sometimes I help lead DS or AB metas if an additional Commander is needed. RPing isn’t my thing anymore, since a friend got banned for ERPing (his ex reported his naughty chat logs). Scribing is maxed, but I’m tempted for getting the orchestra for my Guild Hall. I might try to unlock all the Legendary weapon crafts like another player did.
Bottom line, I don’t want to play another game. I’ve invested the past 10 years into Anet. Each time I touch another game, I feel like I’m cheating on my wife with a cheap FTP/P2W game.
I’ve got nothing else to play. I’ve been dedicated to GW, and even GW1 since it released. Haven’t really touched any other game in 10 years. Cheated with a few FTP online ones, but those ended up being P2W and not fun.
2 years ago I decided that I wanted to reach 30,000 Achievement Points. I thought it would be a longer journey than it has, since that figure seems so insane. Release after release, I played the game and did as much of the content that I could. Now, I’ve done it. I’ve finally joined the 30K club. There have been hundreds of other players who made it before me, so I’d like to pose a question to them: What now?
After achieving this major goal, I’m at a loss as to what I should do now. I’ve brought up this argument countless times when debating players who felt that they were Entitled to getting everything they wanted from Anet. Once you get everything you want, and you run out of things to go, you slowly start to lose interest in playing. I’m struggling with this problem now. There are no new Legendary weapons to hunt. Dungeons are the same since day 1. Fractals are basically the same (except for the rumored new ones later this month). PvP matchmaking upsets me. WvW is roughly the same matchup each week.
I could grind out a few hundred more AP. I could map clear with alts. But in essence, I’ve gobbled up next to everything Anet threw at me. Don’t get me wrong here, GW2 is a wonderful game, which is why I tried everything it had to offer. It’s not Anet’s fault that I completed almost everything, so I can say that I blame myself to running out of things.
So in all seriousness, what should I do next? What are some of the things you players can do over and over without being bored? I know Wanze likes to sit at the Trading Post for hours. Maybe I’ll join his guild or something.
With the current pip system in place, players are artificially held in different tiers thanks to tier and division locks. MMR has no place in determining if a player should be in the tier or division they are, because the system rewards advancement when you get on a lucky win streak. In lower tiers, you could lose 50 in a row, but still would need only 4 wins to advance. Once you cross divisions, you’re stuck there regardless of how many losses you have. You could have an extremely low MMR, yet you’ll be randomly placed with other similar players in your tier range. Mediocre and good players have a chance to be teamed with a poor player. This then affects the overall balance of matches, since some will be handicapped by having to give directions or strategies while in the middle of combat. Let’s face it, not all players understand map strategies.
With this in mind, I’d like to propose something drastically different. Instead of a pip system and tier/division locks, why not rank players based purely on their MMR? An example of this idea would be:
• Amber – MMR 0 to 100
• Emerald – MMR 101 to 200
• Sapphire – MMR 201 to 300
• Ruby – MMR 301 to 400
• Diamond – MMR 401 to 500
• Legendary – MMR 501+
Having such a pure and simple system would allow poor players to go backwards in divisions, and play with other players near their true MMR score, and the good players will still advance to play with like-skilled peers. When you win or lose a match, your MMR score is adjusted accordingly to how well your team did. You can’t use individual scores, since some bunker strategies tend to leave those defensive players with lower scores. As for dual queued and up, we would have to assume that these players have a greater advantage since they could be on voice comms, so their scores should be adjusted more severely if they lose, and gain less MMR if they win against all pugs (based on matchmaking using similar MMR).
Perhaps ANet should consider adding a transgendered Autistic Quaggan that was raised by Skritt and is sexually attracted to Largose of the same sex s/he used to be and has social problems because it’s a green Quaggan and not a pink one.
Sweet bro! I didn’t know you were PC!
Remember, it’s not about sexual attraction, but rather a lifestyle that you were born with. Looks and color don’t determine the fire in one’s heart for social justice. You can be a green, pink, blue, or even a black quaggan, and still fight the good fight.
I would like to take this time to thank Anet for allowing pre-comp’d coordinated voice-comm groups to be roll against us Solo Queue players. It feels awesome that I can be helpful to others by sacrificing my body for their MMR. Now that I’ve found my purpose in life, it’s like I beat the game! Or did the game beat me?
After 3 seasons of complaints and arguments about fairness and balance, I’m not sure what else we can say about this. I fully understand that organized teams will always have an advantage. That’s how GvG was. That’s how Pro League is. Heck, that’s how all “team” based competition should be. But Solo Queuers who choose to play in randomly formed teams shouldn’t be cannon fodder for others’ MMR gains. This is truly a case where the rich get richer and the poor stays poor.
For season 4, please consider two separate queues. Solo Q and Comp’d Q. That would solve a lot of the issues. Allow organized teams to fight each other, and then you can get real feedback on how strong teams are. Real MMR scores for partied players can be calculated. Then future matches will be more even instead of complete wipeouts.
Anet’s writers have done a good job in showcasing the various races of Tyria. Throughout your personal and Living Story, you’ll see every race under the sun. But something’s missing from the new main cast that I think needs to be brought up: There’s no primary quaggan NPC.
I think it’s time that Anet’s writers bring more diversity to the “main NPC races”. Quaggan are cute and lovable creatures, but are deserving to be heroes too. They’ve been pushed out of their home land, hunted by krait, and mangled by tentacles. With all that’s happened to them, they never gave up. In fact, you can see some quaggans leading fights against Mordremoth, so we know they’re capable of fighting.
Please Anet. Quaggans need more love. Introduce some quaggans as lead NPCs in the next Living Story. And that could then lead to the path of playable quaggan characters.

I would pay a subscription fee if it gave me exclusive access to Cantha.
Posted this in Reddit, and now I shall share with you all here. Solo Q match making rewarded me with both wins and losses. I really don’t know how to break out of this never ending cycle. How does one carry a team to Diamond or even Legend tier in Solo Queue?
