If people use the argument about queue time increasing, I would say let it. I would rather wait 5 more minutes in a queue, than to play a match that I don’t want to play for 10 to 15 minutes.

For Ranked and Unranked, I would love an option to “opt-out” of maps that you don’t want to play. I’m finding it frustrating to have to play maps in Unranked that I already have all the achievements for. Other players might simply not like the layout of the map. Allowing us to opt-in or opt-out before queuing for a map could work similar to how we already have the selection for Conquest or Stronghold.

I’m confused as to why people even consider this a “jumping puzzle”. It only takes a couple of jumps were you hold down the space bar between rocks. Every single character in this area should have Gliding unlocked. Jump, hold down the space bar to open your glider, and keep pressing the direction of the next rock. The glider gives you that split second of distance you need.

I’ve noticed my bags are constantly full. It’s not just from enemy drops and harvesting nodes, it’s from all the random collection items in Lake Doric. I have max bag slots, and that’s not enough to hold all the droppings. I think the Devs really missed this problem on the beta testing. Because I’m not sure what I need and don’t need, I’ve been keeping every single trinket in case I need it for some secret item thingy.

Is it fair to have alts in top 250?

in PvP

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Now that Anet is addressing the cheating that went on by players in the top 250, I’m wondering about the other issues that currently occur. Mainly the idea that the top 250 leaderboard is suppose to reward skilled individuals with title and fame. But even with a bunch of accounts being removed, there are still people who have multiple alts placed high.

My question to the Devs is: what do they think of the fairness of their system if it allows one skilled player to farm their alts up the ladder? I’m assuming that there are less than 200 individual players in the actual top 250. Heck, I heard that the top 10 consists of 7 real people, but I don’t know how true this is.

In a perfect world, rankings would be limited to one per person. In the World Cup standings, you don’t see the USA with multiple high ranking teams. In golf, you don’t see Tiger Woods listed with Tigger Woulds on the money list. Why can’t our leaderboard be the same?

This is still placement matches though, Again this is common knowledge that if you did good on your placement matches you will get a good spot.

Example.

My MMR pre season – 261. Placement matches 4-6. Final Rating: Silver t3

Talgo’s MMR pre season 245. Placement matches 7-3. Final Rating: Gold t(x)

Placement matches is luck.

Play more around 50 games and Let’s see your final rating.

There are a bunch of problems with your request to play 50 more games.

1) 50 more games of RNG could mean anything from dropping to Bronze, to getting into the top 250.

2) My alt is non-HoT. It’s not a viable way to play against OP HoT classes.

3) I didn’t do good in my placement matches. I got lucky.

New accounts start at 1200. So with 10 matches, I gained 400 rating on my non-HoT alt, all while just messing around. On my main, I placed in low Silver T2 on my try-hard Engi.

So from this, I deduce that when you play like crap, matchmaking forgives you and gives you better players to carry you. When you play well, matchmaking thinks you should be able to carry weak players, thus you more likely get partied with plebs who barely know how to use their skills.

Each time you play Ranked, you spin the RNG wheel, and hope for the best.

Ok, here’s further proof that your MMR is all based on RNG. I played 10 Ranked games on my alt, which doesn’t have HoT. My rating is 1600, Gold T3. And no, I played no awesome core meta. My ranger was longbow spam with moa pets.

My Main account is barely over 1350, Gold T1.

I don’t care what you say about skill and carry ability. MMR doesn’t care about that. All that matters is that the matchmaking algorithm finds 9 other similar rated players, and one side is stacked to win. Then you just have to hope that RNG places you on the winning side.

Smooth Penguin, maybe you are a gold-tier player in terms of overall skill. The real question becomes whether if you’ll be able to hit platinum or not.

If I manage to keep a 60/40 win ratio through another 100 games, I’m sure to hit Plat tier. But that depends on the types of players matchmaking teams me with. People are saying Gold tier is bad like Silver, so I have no hopes of avoiding bad players.

I play good in nearly all my matches. I can count on my hand how many times I’ve screwed up and didn’t pull my own weight. That’s why I know it’s my teammates.

I do not know the extent of which players will accept that they might not be as good as they think they are, compared to what evidence needs to come out suggesting it to be the case. But, from what I have gathered about Matchmaking in general this season after an appropriate amount of games, I can definitely say the ratings are fairly accurate.

I’ve been called a Bronze pleb, and now I’m a Gold pleb. While I personally see myself in the high Silver range, the fact remains that I did not carry my team in 3 out of every 5 games I played. RNG blessed me. Had the RNG matchmaking gone the other way, I would have dropped into deep Bronze.

Skill plays a major part only in certain situations. If your skill level is far beyond that of your tier, then you can make the difference in a match, as Helseth’s kitty alt proved. Otherwise, you’re at the mercy of your teammates skills, or lack there of.

I dunno, seems you’re on par with most of gold…

If that’s the case, then why does Anet even have Ranked PvP? It’s disheartening that Gold tier is meaningless.

Also judging from your screenie, if you have 6k top stats, you are only around 2.5k games to 3.5k games total played in pvp. Pretty sure there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Most of that is from Hotjoin daily farm maps I think. When I play something with AOE heals, I pop it on top Skyhammer, so I get bonus stats from heals.

Mashing your skills off cooldown? <———————- This is your problem right here.

I was 1 loss away from Bronze, and now I just reached Gold. If MMR is based on skill, then I wouldn’t have been pushed to ~1050, and I shouldn’t be at 1350 if my problem is mashing buttons.

ESL level is way different yes, but human capability can also reach at that level. I do not play as much anymore due to IRL stuff but trust me, countless games and duels, watching videos, making your own team, joining AGs (Even if you LOSE) will make you a better player than most.

I can remember Caspian losing most 1v1s with Chaos A or Rylock but now look where he is.

Incorrect. My gameplay is the same was it was when I dropped to the cusp of Bronze. I play an Engi, and I mash my skills whenever they’re off cooldown. I did not get better. I got better teammates.

The 10 most OP traits/skills in GW2

Smooth Penguin.5294

1, Pulmonary impact – this trait came in at an OP rating of 2325.

2, Signet of illusions – this skill came in at an OP rating of 1623.4.

3, Bristleback pet – this pet is just broken, too much passive damage. OP rating of 1423.

4, Arc divider – the damage of this thing is crazy given its range and lack of CD. Came in at an OP rating of 1367.

5, Ancestral Grace – Came in at an OP rating of 1327.

6, Unhindered combatant – came in at an OP rating of 1315.

7, Channeled vigor – Came in at an OP rating of 1310.

8, Monk’s focus – came in at an OP rating of 1297.

9, Rapid regeneration – came in at an OP rating of 1294.

10, Restorative illusions – came in at an OP rating of 1292.

I wanted to correct your calculations. It seems you used the wrong coefficient when plugging into the formula. I’ll only go over a few, as I don’t have the time to nitpick all of your top 10.

Based on 600 = average

1) Pulmonary Impact – 845.24. This skill is strong, but can only be used on interrupts. You need to factor in opportunity costs into the formula, so that subtracts a good 500 rating points.

2) Bristleback – 950.00. This is truly OP, as it’s basically a mini Ranger on longbow. Your calculations were based on pre-February 2016 numbers, when the skills were 25% stronger.

4) Arc Divider – 627.79 above 50% HP, 935.333 below 50% HP. Similar to Heartseeker, this Primal Burst skill is strong mainly to low HP opponents. When used on opponents with a majority of their HP, it’s just a normal skill.

Behold. After a lot of rage inducing matches, I come bearing proof that your placement in Ranked PvP is based on RNG matchmaking, rather than skill. In the course of 100 games, I gained roughly +300 MMR to reach Gold. I’m not strong enough to carry teams myself, so I had to rely on lady-luck to bless me with a competent party a majority of the matches I played. My win/loss ratio was ~60/40.

Now I know people will say “Well Helseth tanked his alt and made it to Legendary”. There’s a fallacy to his attempt, because he’s one of the top 10 players in the game. Of course he’s going to carry because his skill level far exceeds that of your typical Bronze or Silver plebs. Helseth did not prove Elo Hell can be beaten. He proved that ESL players can beat it. The rest of the players in PvP will not be able to carry single handedly to make up for poor teammates.

Now realize that while lady luck can giveth, she can also taketh away. A player could very much lose enough matches to drop from Gold to Bronze in 100 games too. That doesn’t automatically mean his true skill level is Bronze. That most likely means that his poor teammates dragged him down, and his gameplay wasn’t able to compensate for their shortcomings. Having said that, until Anet can get away from MMR based on team play, no one will really know what their true levels are.

With a simple +1 system, it no longer confuses the community as to who is the best. BUT, if the matches become repeated (which they most likely will every 2 weeks), then you can add the RNG mixup to keep things spicy. So then there’s be a simple 25% chance for the 2nd place server in kitten drop -2, and then the 2nd place in T2 gets +2. In the event of a tie score, then you RNG roll which of the tied servers gets the higher placing.

In the opening example, the new matchups would be:

PvP Mesmer needs balancing

in PvP

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

I think Mesmers at the moment need a little bit of tweaking on their mechanics. I’m not asking for an out right nerf to the whole profession, but perhaps some tapering down of the inherent OPness. IMO, they’re more OP than a Druid or DH. They have access to invuln, evades, teleports, stealth, moa, and they’re currently the only profession that can carry low Ranked players into higher tiers.

I think a good way to balance Mesmers is to add some after-cast animations to their clone skills. It’s already hard when a Mesmer turns into a 4 man army in an instant. Adding in a 1 or 2 second post-cast pause would allow for some counter play. Another way to balance Mesmers is to reduce the toughness of clones. When conjuring a clone out of thin air, you’re just making an additional illusion of yourself. Illusions should not have any HP because they’re not real, and should disappear after 1 hit. Like swatting a puff of smoke from the campfire. And remove Moa. That skill is bad juju.

Remove Glicko. Fingers/Toes to rate servers.

in WvW

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Since population caps were adjusted to balance the top 5 servers, it’s like the tiers are starting at the same level. Since the populations have now evened out, I have an idea about simplifying the server rating system to make matchmaking easier. Remove Glicko calculations completely, and just do a +1/0/-1 system. For example at the end of a week:

1) Mag: +1
2) BG: 0
3) TC: -1
4) JQ: +1
5) YB: 0
6) FA: -1

New week matchups:

1) Mag
2) BG
3) JQ
4) TC
5) YB
6) SBI

No more need for complicated maths. The losing server moves down a tier, and the winning server moves up. In the case of Mag, because they’re already #1, all players who played at least 10 hours of WvW and and scored at least 200 player kills during the week get 1,000 Gems each. That’s how you fix WvW.

[Request] Pause option in Ranked match

in PvP

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Since this is a competition, I think a new mechanic should be added to PvP. We should have a Pause or Timeout option that the team can call once per match. There are various reasons why someone may need to take a break in the middle of fighting. Some strategic, some personal. And if we’re going to treat GW2 as an E-Sport, you have to realize that most team sports allow for timeouts.

Most players know how hyper focused you can get in a good match, but real life sometimes calls you away from the keyboard. Power goes out. Router needs to reboot. Visitor at your door. Wife angry you didn’t take out the trash. Pet dog having an accident in the kitchen. Eating some chalupas and a nachos bellgrande, only to find your stomach is getting rekt from the inside. Everyone’s experienced some point where they wish they had a moment to recover.

Rules would be simple. Any player can call timeout, and the team needs to vote on it. If all 5 teammates agree, the match is halted for 30 seconds. Players are frozen in place like they were CC’d, and a countdown timer starts to tick.

I will give props to ESL players though. Their skill levels are amazing. You can’t fake what you see in tourney streams. With 2 pro players on alts queuing Bronze, there’s a much higher chance to carry teams. One on separate points to hold, and the other three are delegated to roaming the map. With only one ESL player carrying, yes his teammates need to know what to do while he gets points and kills. But if you can spike down targets quickly, you’re doing the same work it takes 4 Bronze to do. What Helseth is doing is akin to Pele facing highschool opponents in a scrim. Sure you’ll roflstomp the other team, but you’re expected to.

One of the consequences for the current Ranked season is that people are giving up hope. I’m 31/63 because I can’t bring myself to keep playing after having bad teammates. I lost a good 10 to 15 matches that we should have won, but failed due to really poor decisions by the rest of the team. If I were 45/63, that would put me in Gold T1. I go on a small win streak, then I run into players who 4 v 1 on a point being bunkered, and other team 3 caps the whole map. If I don’t leave the queue, I’ll team with the same players(s) for the next 2 or 3 matches. /cry

Heck, I’m so disgusted by quality in Silver, that I find myself not even giving a kitten when I play. Why try hard when there’s no point? Sometimes I have teammates who don’t respond when I ask who’s taking Home before matches.

As for carrying, I will admit to this. It’s is possible to carry matches… if you’re ESL quality like Helseth. But that’s the exception, not the norm. Helseth’s skill level is far beyond what players in Bronze, Silver or Gold have. Heck, how many players in GW2 get paid to play this game? Only a handful. But saying that any good player can carry Bronze pugs, is like saying anyone can be a Victoria Secret model. For us peasants, we’re at the mercy of RNG matchmaking. I wish I were born with the natural ability to finger buttons as well as Helseth.

That’s just like saying that when I got all those Precursors within the span of a few months, that means everyone should be getting a bunch of Precursors too.

That’s not how RNG works, mate. PvP matchmaking is a roll of the dice, and you gotta play with the team you’re given. And because I got dragged down the MMR ladder, that means the chances are higher that I roll bad.

If you cant carry in silver, you are where you belong, till you improve.

youre just repeating yourself, so many already told you what to do and that youre just bad/average and you need to improve, if you want to move up.

Your team mates are also average players that want to improve and move up, but sadly you will all make mistakes and bad choices, same for your opponents.

So when you learn and improve so you make less mistakes and less bad choices, you will move up.

You might think you make the right choices now, but if youre stuck it seems it aint so and you have stuff to learn.

Yet again someone who doesn’t understand the problem. Maybe you got lucky and were carried to a high division, so you can repeat the claim that it’s a “you’re just bad” deal. But as a mid ranged player, I’m being teamed with players who have no business being given an average MMR, and have no idea how to play. Then I get dragged downwards and can’t climb up due to Silver Hell RNG teams. My teammates are not average players. They’re new players given average ratings. Big difference.

Players who claim a single player can carry whole teams in low/mid Silver have no idea how Ranked PvP works. In order to do something like this, my skill level would need to be Plat to ESL. And we all know that these players and their alts currently occupy the top 250.

I have no issue admitting to not being a pro, but I’m also not a bottom dweller. I know rotations, strategy, and have classes that I’m good with. I can bunker against 3 to 4 people long enough for my team to rotate to empty points. But RNG gives me people who lose capped points in a 3 v 1 against a Necro. How this happens I have no idea.

Play heavier dps in low tiers. I broke out of silver with a core burn guard with guardian runes. Assuming you are the better player and can kite/avoid stuns you will be dropping their entire team in one go. Packing a dps spec at low tiers means you can just run between home and mid nuking and they won’t be able to respawn fast enough to kill your bad teammates.

And you will need to fix before moving up. Once your win rate is sub 50 you won’t move up. I started t1 silver but never dropped below 70% win rate till plat to maintain forward progression.

Here’s the issue. I usually have to make the decision to either swap to my Thief for mobile rotation duties, or go bunker and keep the points we do have capped. All depends on team comp. I can try to swap to the roll of heavy DPS, but I still have to rely on the other 4 to manage their own. I’ve seen players stand outside of circles, thinking they’re capping…

A lot of times, the team mentality in Silver is to fight for mid, and everything else falls in place. The tunnel vision is mindblowing, as Team Chat calls and pings on the map are all ignored. I would give anything to be T3 Silver to T1 Gold so I can focus on just my own job, rather than trying to coordinate the map while in mid-combat.

When are linkings changing?

There’s been a hitch in the plans of worlds getting hitched, such that this World Link update won’t happen until one week later, on January 6th. This won’t delay/offset future world link updates.

If Anet is adjusting their WvW population calculations, does that mean all servers will open, or will a lot of servers close?

So in Silver, I’m seeing all losses taking away more MMR than wins give. According to team MMR, I should be winning every single match. I’m running a sub 50 ratio. I’d have a lot more wins if certain matches didn’t have clueless teammates. How is that fair as compare to Gold+? You can’t climb out of this unless you can 1 v 4, and even then you need to hope your teammates can still rotate properly against the left over dude.

Rich Veins collapsing after a single hit?

In non-SW maps, normal nodes reset after maybe 30 minutes, and rich nodes reset 24 hours. If there’s more than one rich node in the same map (i.e. iron), all behave like they’re supposed to. In SW, if there are more than one rich mithril node in the same map, the first will be normal (9x mining), but the second will only give one. So either there’s a map bug since SW came out, or this is intended so players don’t over farm mithril.

Fluke matches happen more consistently in Silver due to the severe mix of skill levels (new and vets combined). I’m scared to think what happens in Bronze.

Anet can address some of these problems by moving away from the “award everyone” mindset, and treat PvP as a competitive game-mode. Unranked for the loots, and Ranked for the glory. I promise you there’d be a lot less complaints.

Edit – a 50/50 win loss ratio means you’re going down. Since wins don’t give as much MMR as losses take away, you need maybe a 55/45 to stay even, and 60/40 to inch up.

Yes I agree than an AI NPC waifu is limited, but where else would I be able to marry a charr? My wife refuses to wear a fursuit, so I need to escape to GW2 for fun.

I think the thought of just having the option to go to your Home Instance, and do things beyond farming nodes would improve the RP aspect of this game. If the Devs put so much effort into quests for adopting cats, they should consider allowing us to woo NPCs.

The fact that you think those are the only way to carry kind of shows your inexperience.

I would love to hear how a pro like you carries 4 other players by yourself. Do you play a Mesmer, and leave a clone at Home so you can cap while fighting at Mid since no one else decides to cap it? Perhaps you play DH, and leave traps on Mid, then teleport back to Home to defend because the players respawning has tunnel vision on the mid-fight? Or are you mobile enough to help the Thief who Leeroy’s into a Far that’s being bunkered by an Engi and Ele, rezzing the Rev at mid, while wondering why there are 2 teammates standing on an empty Home?

True that some of my games are decent games, I’ve had some close games where both teams get +400 points and it’s fun. But the majority of my losses in particular are total, utter blowouts and my team is filled with people that insta-die on mid, double cap and don’t rotate at all.

If you’re having 400 point blowouts in Gold+, do you think that your teammates gave up after the initial push? I’ve been on teams where we faced so much bunkering on the other side, that my team just AFKs until the next game.

How does a new player get to Plat? That means either their previous season MMR was really high to begin with, it’s a Pro Leaguer’s alt, or they rolled good teams from top Silver and held their own through Gold. All these options show that this player is not new.
