Mystic Forge - Adding 4 Legendary Weapons

This makes me ponder something.. If we put in 4 cheap legendaries, is it possible to get, say, Twilight from 4 Frenzy spearguns?

Legendary and Cheap are two words that should never belong in the same sentence. But yeah, some players were able to get two Legendaries within a couple of months, so it’s not hard to imagine someone with 4. I would like to see the Youtube vid if the Forge result is an epic win or fail.

To Devs - Ideas to prevent account hacks

in Suggestions

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Anet has already posted ways for players to increase their security to prevent account losses, but honestly, not all players will listen. To be fair, not all players are at fault for losing their accounts. Yes some pick common passwords, reuse the same password for multiple applications, or visit naughty sites that install key loggers. But some are victims of other website hacks that manage to take over vital e-mail accounts, thus opening a door to possible GW2 account takeovers.

Beyond the authenticators, the Anet Devs should consider an in-game Inventory lock system. This could be an option that allows players to “freeze” items and coin on their accounts, preventing them from being sold to the merchant or mailed to another player. A separate password could then be used to make manual unlocks to both the items and coin. So if a hacker managed to get access to an account, they couldn’t steal anything. This is similar to the security freeze option the main credit bureaus like Experian and Trans Union use (although they charge a fee for each unlock). This gives an extra layer of protection to players, granted they don’t use the same password for both login and lock functions. AND it could give another gold sink to the game, if there’d be a Gem fee for each lock and unlock.

While the above option would help prevent a hacker from stealing the items and money in someone’s account, they can still do damage by deleting characters completely. This where that separate password could come in handy. That same Inventory password could also be used as a confirmation before deleting characters.

In theory, all this may be easy to talk about, but I’m sure the programing nightmares the Devs would be having would be justified. I understand you can’t just add a new code to existing code and expect things to magically work. And the fact that it would take countless working hours to implement a system that benefits only a small fraction of the player population.

Once the Account Restoration service becomes available, this idea will probably become useless. Perhaps it’s an idea that would potentially be considered for the future? GW3 is only several years away.

2) The loot scaled down to the true level of your character. Thus, if you went in with a lv 62 character, that’s what you’re gonna get from the chest.

3) This was a great event. Got my Monthly done. Got some epic Exotics from end chest. Had fun doing it.

If Anet put everything up for sale in the Gem Store, then there wouldn’t be anything left that’s “rare”. Items that everyone has is no longer as unique or awesome-looking. Then there wouldn’t be that strong of a desire to have said item.

You can choose to buy a rare item or skin from the TP, but it would be if your choice to pay the high price tag for it. It would still be just as rare, since not everyone has tons of spare Gold to spend, or godly luck. Thus the item will maintain its status as something desired.

Suggestions to reduce market manipulation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

Why would you want to reduce it? It’s supposed to be a free market is it not?

I’m not an economist (nor do I play one on TV), but I’ll try to answer this as best as I can.

In a “perfect” market, buyers and sellers would know the exact value of the goods they are trading in at any particular point in time. Buy orders and sell listings would then be placed at that value and there would be a perfect match between supply and demand at that point in time.

What we have in reality however is a lot messier. Buyers and sellers are both “guessing” at the value of the goods they are trading in, although they have some information to help them arrive at the value (e.g. current buy and sell listing prices and volumes). Some buyers elect to take the best available sale offer, and some sellers elect to take the best available buy offer, but everybody else puts up an offer that is usually in between these two values.

The actions of traders like myself, help to reduce the spread between these 2 prices and therefore move both buy and sell prices towards the point where supply will match demand.

But sometimes I’m in such a rush, that I don’t care to guess, and will put up numbers that will guarantee I get my items within seconds. I guess I’m one of those on the extreme. Then the problem is when people see my numbers, and base their decisions on my poor price choices.

So you can still play using 32 bit systems. But the combination with that an certain Nvidia cards causes the problem. Which cards cause the conflict, I have no idea. But this has been going on since Beta. Some people were able to fix this by throttling back their Nvidia card speeds a little.

Price manipulation

It isn’t so much Supply vs. Demand, but rather pure Demand itself (most likely due to the need to level Crafting). If a lot of people need Small Fangs, and those same people are willing to buy them for high prices, that will end up inflating the cost of each fang. They could wait until the prices dropped, but that would mean not leveling their Craft to the next tier.

Same goes for people selling. Sure you could sell them for 40 copper each. But if there are people with Buy Orders of 1 silver each, guess what you’ll be selling them for.

It isn’t manipulation, but rather the market at work.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’m indifferent on the Free Market question, but 100% FOR a transparent market.

You have been said that the Gem Exchange does not create gems or gold, merely facilitates in it’s transfer.

Tell me how much gold is currently in the Exchange!
Tell me how many gems there are currently in the Exchange!
Show me the Algorithm used to calculate the exchange rate!

I want to support this game financially, and would willingly buy gems if I understand the mechanics behind them. But with a black-box style exchange, I can’t be certain any gems I purchase will have any real buying power in the future.

And the moment you release information on how Anet calculates the exchange, you give detailed tools for someone to figure out a way to manipulate the prices. But then again, thanks to Halloween, now I know exactly when to flip Gems for coins, and vice versa.

If you don’t want to buy Gems with real money, buy them with Gold you earn from in game. It would be more volatile to do the latter though, as I assume the $ to Gem rate will always be constant. Having said that, the buying power of Gems for account items and boosts will never change, only the conversion rates to Gold.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I’m not gonna make a super long post, so I’ll use shortened points.

1) Some people don’t realize that RMT not only farm, but they STEAL gold from other players (i.e. Hack accounts, use stolen credit card info, etc.). So arguing that they are the best indicator of Gold value is squashed right there.

2) People need to stop thinking about only their own needs, and consider the economy as a whole. So any argument about “the rates suck” is code for “I’m too lazy to farm, and too impatient to play the game to get good stuff, so sell me Gold for cheap so I can get good stuff faster.”

Why can we not get customer service in a timely manner?!?

Smooth Penguin.5294

People keep beating the dead horse argument about Anet having poor security. Well let me share a quote from the OP:

I’ve only logged on a few times to make sure my character is where I logged him out, mainly because I get 80 emails a day to authorize a log in attempt from China. I don’t think my account has been hacked because I’m able to log into the forums here, so WTH is going on?!?
[Incident: 121021-000314]

80 e-mails a day to authorize a login attempt from China? At what point does one think this isn’t a huge problem? You only get authorization e-mails when SOMEONE ELSE HAS YOUR E-MAIL AND PASSWORD. So instead of changing the password, he let it go. Then, the hacker finally got access to it, and used it to move Gold through the account. Thus the ban for illegal Gold trading.

Gaile and the team keep linking Mike O’Brien’s article about security, but no one reads. The only ones who have a right to complain are those who got their accounts banned due to a bug. Everyone else falls into one of the following:

A) Login and password stolen from another site
B) Password too simple, or too common
C) GW2 password too similar to another password that was stolen
D) Keylogger on PC (lack of personal security)
E) Shared account with a “trusted friend”, only to have everything disappear

Hackers don’t steal accounts to play on, they do it to launder stolen goods so their bot accounts are kept safe. I assume a majority of everyone who gets banned and says they never did Gold trading is telling the truth.

TL;DR – If more people would learn to be more secure about their pws, there’d be less support tickets. Less support tickets = less problems = more time for Anet to respond to real issues.

ps – Don’t knock on Peggy. He’s wonderful.

Smooth Penguin.5294

I don’t enjoy the fact that Bill Gates is worth more than some small countries, but I ain’t blaming him for my lack of entrepreneurial skills.

To put it plainly, some people learn and understand the mechanics of this game, and use it to their advantage to make tons of Gold. They find what people want, then they find a way to get/sell it. Yeah that makes me mad, but only because I didn’t think of it first.

You aren’t forced to buy Gems to convert to coin. The game rewards you for playing, and over time, you’ll get money. I made 2 Gold last nite just from playing WvW and a little PvE. I’m not the best PvPer, and I don’t bot, yet I can get modest returns from doing what I love to do. Hint – Defending a keep in WvW rewards you with XP, Karma, and over 1+ silver every 3 minutes or so.

Now as for your need for freedom to purchase from illegal RMT sellers. You DO have the freedom of choice to go to their websites and purchase all the stolen Gold you want. Just like it’s your choice to shoplift candy from the local supermarket. However, Anet has every right to ban your account for doing something that’s against their policies. You have a choice, but you deal with the consequences if you pick a bad one.

Edit – Anet’s been beating me to responses lately. I need to learn to type faster…

Smooth Penguin.5294

If you think those prices are too high to reliably sell, place a buy order for a lower price. If any sellers agree, you’ll get it for that much.

I think part of the complaint is that you can’t set a lower offer.

What are you talking about? Buyers have the ability to ask for items at whatever price they want. Keep in mind that if you set your asking price too low on a Buy Order, and someone else offers even 1 cp more, they’ll get theirs listen first.

What he means is that there is no “Buy Orders” in the Gem Store. You buy at the rate they give you and that’s it. Same is true for sales, you can’t set an offer, you sell at the rate they dictate.

He wasn’t talking about Gems. Besides, there is no Buy Order for Gems since the price fluctuates between the demand for Gems or Gold. If you play your cards right, you can make a lot of money with this system.

Don’t go in and expect us to just let you walk by and take goodies that can be used against us. You want it, you earn it.

I totally agree, camping puzzle in WvWvW is evil and shouldn’t go unpunished. However I think the real problem in WvWvW is people camping inside towers, keeps and castle denying the other server xp and karma, especially when it is the same guys over and over again.

Who sets Gem prices?

Smooth Penguin.5294

All I want to know is, what has caused the gems prices to have sky rocketed.
For more than a week after launch it was 1g=+-300 gems, but a around a month after launch it began to plummet and now 1g sits around 100 gems. That’s an insane price, as I paid for gems while its was around 220 for a gold, but haven’t bought any since.

Now I wonder what was responsible for this radical price increase. Was it because:
a ) The game is two months old and people now have a lot more in game cash available than before, or
b ) Far too many people would much rather pay the in game currency than real money, causing a sort of cascading effect.

More than likely the spike in Gem prices is caused by the Halloween event. It may go down a bit after, but will spike again for the Winter event. It may even fall again in January, but that’s anybody’s guess…

Indeed. Now that we have an idea of how players react to holiday events, you can actually profit if your timing is right. Even with the premium in the Gold to Gems over Gems to Gold, a 50% or 60% swing in conversion rates has the potential to make a lot of rich players even richer.

Gamewide Trading Post is a mistake

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

TL;DR

From my understanding of this whole conversation, OP is:
1) A casual player
2) Doesn’t like a player driven market.
3) Doesn’t like how individual Mats to produce a crafted product exceeds the value of said product.
4) Prefers separate TPs on each server, thus creating mini markets, allowing OP to find a server the benefits him the greatest, while completely disregarding how it affects other players.

Let me explain to you why the TP works the way it does, from a person whom you will probably detest. Crafting mats are high in demand for a couple reasons. One would be that people WANT to max their selected disciplines (most likely for Legendaries). Two would be that people are willing to pay a premium to get mats quicker, rather than mine/farm.

Then there are different types of players. There are market players who want to profit by reselling crafted products. Then you have the player who don’t care that they are losing money, and are willing to sell cheap just to recover part of their costs. I fall into the latter. I craft for character XP and crafting XP. I spend buckets of Gold to buy materials needed for the higher level crafts. After I use all my mats to make the item, I’ll either sell to the Merchant, or I’ll jump into TP and sell at a price that I know will sell fast (sometimes up to 40% below what all the mats cost together). Why do I do these things? Because I’m lazy. I want to get money back, and if a Buy-Order is higher than the Merchat, I’ll fill it. I buy mat A, B, and C for 10 Gold, use it to craft an item worth 8-9 Gold, and then sell that item for 6 Gold. I just lost 4 Gold right? Wrong. Because that 4 Gold helped to max my crafting to lv 400, and that’s what I care about.

I’m not alone. I’m sure there are a LOT of players with my mindset. AND, with the TP being player driven, we’ll pretty much screw with common sense, and create an imbalanced market with our actions. So as long as there are players willing to pay outrageous prices, and willing to sell crafted products for dirt cheap, the market will reflect this.

This would add so much fun to the game! Imagine seeing 7 bots farming Skrit or Krait. A map Commander could allow for a Team Kill vote or something, and then have a temporary window to attack allies.

Or another plus would be if your server owns the entire WvW map. You have to wait around for others to cap towers or camps before you could do anything. Instead of waiting, you could just have an insane free-for-all in a safe zone.

It sounds so yummy just to think about it!

I personally LOVE to camp at the top of the arena area of Obsidian. I open the gates for the Veteran mobs to roam, I pelt jumpers with rocks, and if I get enough of my server up with me, I build Arrow Carts (which can reach anywhere in the arena). There is absolutely nothing against this in any rule, as WvW is PvP. Why do you think the Devs put all those rocks at the top? Just for show? No. It’s so you can throw it and knock people down.

If you truly don’t wish to battle others, you should transfer to a server with strong WvWers. IF your server owns all 3 keeps, they you can run Obsidian without worry. If you look at the map, and see that 1 or 2 others also own a keep, don’t go in.

in Crafting

Smooth Penguin.5294

>OP

Blyth, it seems you are misunderstanding Linsey’s quote. I’ll post it below for you to re-read:

Though not all Exotics are “created equal” they are all of the same rarity: Exotic.

That means if a weapon, armor, or item has the word “exotic” in it, the RNG of the Forge will treat it all like. Going further with this, if you threw in a Dusk with 3 other Exotics, you’ll still have the same % chance of making a Legendary precursor.

The Forge is taking the word “Rare” or “Exotic” for the face value of the word itself. Not the particular item involved. Legendary precursors have an extremely low % chance that you’ll make it, thus making them “more rare” than their other exotic counterparts. But they are still considered “Exotic type” weapons.

Hope that clears it up.

A couple of notes. But first, as it seems everyone understands now, you can’t trade real world stuff for in game stuff.

Note 1: Policing – I’m sure Anet has the means to track people who send Gold through the Mail system. However, HawkMeister does have a point that it’s hard to tell which transactions are RMT, and which are friends helping each other. I’m sure there are internal policies for catching cheaters. I would still caution you to not take a chance on getting a ban over the trade of a few Gold coin.

Note 2: Not allowing it – I can’t see how it’s a bad thing for Anet to specifically say that they will not allow outside transactions for in game currency trading. Without this type of clause, it would give RMT free reign on controlling the economy, since there would be no penalties for selling Gold for $$$.

Note 2.1: And if you allowed private transactions, but not Gold selling, how would you police that? RMT would just say they offered an outside “service”, and the Gold being transferred was a payment.

This post made me smile.

It’s called self control. I, too, have very little of it. Your body catches up to you once you realize 2 hours of sleep per day isn’t good.

Did any Karma Merchant ever sell high level Salvage kits? I never saw one, although I admit I would have missed since I was looking at only cooking mats.

In anycase, you can always just make a Mystic Salvage kit. It has 250 uses, and has the 2nd to the highest salvage rates like Master ones. I would prefer Black Lion ones though, because 50% rare and 100% upgrades are really nice.

Try putting in 4 different lv 80 Exotic Greatswords. I believe Rares have a lower chance of upgrading to an Exotic, let alone the precursor ones.

Mystic Forge recipe broke (fixed) - Became Gem Pendants

If you combine each of the different pendants + 50 crystals in the mystic forge, you get this:

i follow your instruction (or not) and cant forge it

- Ruby Orichalcum Amulet of the Beserker
- Beryl Orichalcum Amulet of the Valkyrie
- Emerald Orichalcum Amulet of the Knight
- 50 Crystals

and the forge button still gray.. what i did wrong?

You need the following:

Emerald Pendant – 1
Ruby Pendant – 1
Sapphire Penant – 1
Crystals – 50

The Triforge Pendant requires 750 Gold Ingots, 150 Mystic Coins, 750 Piles of Crystalline Dust, 250 Sapphire Orbs, 250 Ruby Orbs, 250 Emerald Orbs, and 50 Crystals in total. That’s not insane like Legendaries, but still would take a long time to farm if not using the TP.

See Galie’s post below. It’s from another thread, and related to what you posted:

Please, do not make assumptions like “It wouldn’t take much coding at all” or “(it) could easily be hotfixed in.”With all due respect, no one has the ability, externally, to assess such situations, to know how much code it would indeed require, whether it could be hotfixed in, or if indeed either of those suggestions is the best in the overall game programming.
It’s nice to share your suggestions, but we want to avoid uninformed statements-as-fact, for they are not helpful and may lead to further misunderstandings.

You may be a paying customer, but it doesn’t mean Anet is forced to follow each and every demand players make. You can make a suggestion, and they’ll take it into consideration. That’s more than enough for a majority of the players here. It’s even better when the Devs actually make adjustments to tone down enemy AI and HP, fix exploits, and ban hackers in an attempt to make the game more enjoyable.

Remember, you paid to play their product, not to own it. If you aren’t happy, you’re free to play something else.

Side note – People will make mistakes when buying stuff, and I agree that having a buy back option would be nice. But there needs to be a rule in place to prevent people from abusing such a system (i.e. No buy backs if the item is equiped, used, etc. or buy backs only allowed if done within “x” minutes from purchase). That way, it doesn’t reduce the value of the Karma/Token items from people selling back stuff constantly.

They do drop from trees you chop down. They are lv 225, so maybe the higher end trees have more of a chance to drop them.

Crafting is basically a side quest. You don’t have to do it, but if you do, you can reap some rewards (ie. selling for profit or making items for yourself).

What it comes down to is time and effort. My main is lv 80, and I’ve been mining and farming materials for the other characters I’ll be making. You can deposit crafting mats directly to your bank, so you don’t waste space in your inventory. When you see a node, mine it. If you have low level equipment, you can salvage it for cloth or metals. Killing stuff drops crafting materials too (ie. spiders drop venom). Heck, you can do WvW, and get crafting mats there too.

tl;dr > Play the game + don’t skip content = win

The name IS the point. If it’s something that is borderline bad, Anet will ask you to change it. If you change it, and you used a similar name that still might violate the policy, you might get the request to change it again. I’m not aware of the Dev’s policy on if they’ll ban you for a 2nd offense or not. Maybe Gaile can shed some light on this.
