Personally all Legendary weapons are now is the ‘fluff’ of endgame. I would rather just craft pearls and transmute them to what I’d like. Sure I’d love Eternity or the not so legendary Jormag’s Breath, but the way mats drop and what not I’ll be happy with my 2g Exotics. Either that, or I’ll do some dungeon runs and get my weapons there. No they don’t have “legendary” stats but they’re just as good in my honest opinion.

+1 to you. This is how the game works. Anet gives us each an option to play the game our own ways. You don’t “need” a Legendary to play the game, or even complete the game. All the complainers are basically those who feel Entitled to stuff.

Be warned, Anet will not help you should someone scam you out of your item. Anything sold outside of the TP comes down to what Gaile calls a “Gentlemen’s Agreement”. It’s pretty much fully based on trust. So if you mail your item to the other person (or the wrong person), and you aren’t paid for it, you’re out of luck.

That’s pretty much what I and many others (like John Smith) have said in these forums. +1 to you

As for all the complainers, what it comes down to is people don’t understand how markets work. It’s not their fault, as many games don’t have such player driven dynamic markets, where WE actually control the price of goods. It’s new to them, and will probably take time to learn.

If no one purchased my Charged Lodestones for what I’m selling them for, we’d be forced to drop the price to a point where it’ll sell. But all it takes is a few players with the willingness to pay the prices, so too will we be happy to sell them.

The sooner people understand this, the less people will complain that the market is broken. It’s like arguing with Apple that their iPads are too expensive, yet there’s a line out their door to pay $600 for the latest ones.

To add to this, there are built in mechanics that slow down flipping (i.e. TP listing fees). Please understand that if you purchase an item to resell, factor in the fees associated with the sale. I believe it’s about 10% of the value of the item being sold. So any price point above that 10% is pure profit.

A total of 15%. 10% tax if it is sold, 5% non-refundable listing fee. So think smart about your listing price, and don’t make a constant habit of removing and re-listing or you lose that 5% each time.

Thanks for the follow up. I was just guestimating the percentages.

In the business world, it’s called a “sale”. Use Google to look it up.

I can’t recall the last time a AAA title had a sale within the first 3 months. If something is continuing to sell well why reduce the price so soon?

1) To get more people to play. The initial hype of the game got people in, but you never stop promoting a product after the initial release

2) Anet is probably celebrating the fact that GW2 is the #1 MMO of the year.

And now add to your statement the fact that “when supply of cores/lodestones increases from 300 to 550” in several days, the price rises still. And try to explain it, smart one

1) Because me and my Guild farm them daily (1 to 5 drops per Guildie per hour).
2) We don’t put them all up on the TP at the same time, since we would compete with only ourselves at that point.
3) We sell only at prices people are willing to pay.
4) If you’re willing to pay 10 Gold per rock, we’re more than happy to sell it. But it’s not at that level yet.
5) We’ll lower prices if anyone else finds our farm spot and starts to compete on the TP.

Lesson time:

Supply – 300 Charged Lodestones
Demand – 5,000 players wanting them
Outcome A – 1 to 5,000 players willing to pay any price to obtain them. Price goes up.
Outcome B – Players unable to afford them rage. Random forum topic about how the market is broken is born.

Gem Price Cap

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Smooth Penguin.5294

Smooth Penguin.5294

TL;DR

There’s no need to even purchase Gems. The game doesn’t require it by any means to play or complete. Players make the decision to get Gems purely for cosmetic purposes. There are minor buffs too, but you can get smaller ones via Guild banners. And as for buying Gems to convert to Gold to make TP purchases, there’s no “need” for that too, as you have a chance to get all these items from just playing the game.

So all this “force us to covert gems to gold” hold no ground whatsoever. You want Gems, you make the choice to buy them (via Gold or $$$).

Because you threatened a lawsuit, you just shut down all avenues of support from Anet, as now they will forward you to their legal team, and you need to deal with them.

But it sounds like your beef is with the retailer. If you paid via creditcard, you can file a complaint with your bank (if it’s within a certain time frame). I recommend you speak with your bank ASAP and file a fraud report with that transaction. At the same time, speak with the retailer directly. IF you have done no wrong, you should be able to resolve this issue of a refund directly from the retailer, or through your bank refunding your money.

If you did it with cash, your only option would be to talk to the retailer and work with them.

Having work in the banking industry with Risk Management, I think I may see where the problem might be. If your bank blocked the transaction due to their internal policies related to fraud, that will trigger a code on Anet’s merchant end too. When that happens, Anet might have flagged that creditcard automatically, and completely blocked the transaction. Add to that he tried multiple times which resulted in a failure each time, so that’s more red flags. But I’m not sure which company they use to process the transactions, so I’m just going off of a guess mind you.

As for PayPal, the transaction goes through PayPal’s system first, then the money is transferred to Anet. If it was blocked there, chances are it’s being stopped on PayPal’s end first.

Seems pretty unbalanced to me that Gift of Sunrise costs more than Gift of FORTUNE at the moment. (300g for gift of light + price of ori/metals + sigil + 100g icy stones)?

Not to mention Charged Lodestones are harder to come by than any T6 material. 10 runs of CoE yielded 2 chaged cores 1 lodestones. Farming this is hilarious.

Guess I’ll have to go back to power-trading for the other half of my lodestones instead of actually playing the game =).

I don’t think you fully understand some of the complaints laid out. It is quite a bit harder now to get a legendary than it was a month ago. Rare drops have been nerfed in cursed shore, ascended gear has driven the demand for t6 mats and ectos to prices 4+ times higher than they were a month ago. Most of the precursor prices have gone back to the prices they were pre-lost shores patch. Lodestones are subject to manipulation again as most people have stopped running fractals. I don’t care about how many people have gotten their legendaries. I am aware that it’s supposed to take a long time to obtain. I just want to know that I won’t have to farm another month after I reach a benchmark only to have found out that another piece of the legendary has tripled in price, and will require more than twice as long to get now.

I fully understand this thread. It’s mainly people who don’t like the feeling of how the economy is moving. Part of this is because they want their Legendaries here and now, and a dynamic market is preventing them from getting it at their assumed time of completion. Long story short: Jealousy + Impatience + Lack of understand about how the economy works = complain/rage

The hardness is relative to the demand for said Legendary. If you want Twilight or the Juggernaut, yeah the T6 mats needed will be expensive for you. Keep in mind that demand for the T6 mats also cover other Exotics of Ascended items as well. The more an item is desired by a larger number of people, the higher the price a seller can ask for. AND if people are willing to pay that price, you are basically at the mercy of the market. I keep repeating this, but the older this game gets, the more money players accumulate. These players can afford more goods, thus the Demand will outpace Supply.

TL;DR – Prices go up. Deal with it and play the game. Find what is “fun” for you, and do it.

Nothing is unreachable with time. Legendaries are not meant to be farmed within a month for the general public.

This. +1

Economy Not Meant for the Casual Gamer?

I completely agree!! It is extremely hard to play the game as I have to buy armor, weapons, way-points, upgrades and I’m even avoiding leveling up at all costs as I can’t afford the armor I need to stand any chance of survival in my level zone. It’s easier to make a profit in real life than in Guild Wars 2!! For crying out loud Arena Net I play Guild Wars 2 to relax and have fun not to have another penniless pocket I have to stress about!!

Playing the game… you’re doing it wrong.

This game isn’t meant to go Leeroying in, hacking and slashing all enemies. The higher level area you go to, the more strategy comes in. You need to play smart, learn enemy “tells”, and evade attacks while counter attacking. GW2 is a game of skill. If all else fails, group with people and have them do all the damage.

I work as a developer myself and god i cannot comprehend how they have created and still allow this monstrous economy to go on like this.

On top of that, 0 communication on this matter

The players drive this market. They supply the items, they demand the items. But you keep forgetting that all materials for Legendaries are be found through the course of PLAYING THE GAME.

Yes, the market is a way to play this game. If you aren’t happy with that, start a new character and play through the storyline. Do Dungeons. Do Fractals. Do WvW. If you find none of that fun, but you still want your Legendary, buy Gems to convert to Gold, and buy everything from the TP.

It pains me that there are jealous people out there who feel entitled to getting their Legendary as quick as others who got it already. No matter how much time they put in, because someone got it, they automatically feel they have a right to it too. Please stop, think, and realize that a Legendary is supposed to be a LONG TERM COMMITMENT. If you don’t have the time to get it in three months, I’m sorry, but that’s the way the ball bounces. Have some patience and keep trying for 6 months, 1 year, or even 2 years if you have to. If the RNG gods don’t favor you, so be it. Keep trying until you get your magical 77 Clovers. The world doesn’t end because you don’t get what you want when you want it.

Note – there are suggestions in this thread that can help you out. You should really look back and consider them.

Gold in a Guild Bank is available to anyone with access. So when you have a large guild with a lot of people having access to the coinage, any one person could take it all without fear of retaliation from Anet (or so I believe).

The way I see it, if Anet were to have the ability to refund Guild Bank Gold each time someone “claimed” to have had it all stolen, that would add multiple layers of headache for the Anet Support Team. There’d be no way for them to determine if someone took it legitimately or not. So it would seem it falls under the “Gentlemen’s Agreement” thinking, where you place the trust that others won’t use it wrongly.

This is a big reason why my guild doesn’t put anything of high value in there. If someone were to need a large amount of Gold, we’d probably all be on Vent at the same time, to make the transfer via Guild Bank quickly.

Galie, allow me to add to this.

cAu.195, debit cards act as both an ATM card and a Credit Card. The ATM transaction part rely on the use of a PIN code, and the funds are immediately taken from your account. When used as a Credit Card (via Visa or Mastercard), an authorization is requested, putting the value of the purchase on “hold”. So it may look as if the money was deducted, but in actuality, it’s sitting in limbo. This is to give the merchant (in this case Anet) a chance to either complete the transaction (thereby they collect the money owed to them), or reject/cancel the transaction. If the transaction is canceled, the “hold” on the money is released back into your account’s available balance. Depending on your bank, the money may not show up right away. It can take a few business days before bank customers see their money “available” again.

If this transaction was done recently, you’ll need to contact your bank and ask a representative for details. They can give you a better time frame as to when the “hold” will be lifted. If it’s an emergency, the bank may be able to manually release the held money, but again, each back is different.

I get unID’d dye here and there just playing in Cursed Shore, and I’ve opened over a hundred of them so far (with 2 Abyss drops among them). Once you learn where to farm the items you need, all you need to do is stay in that area. Rinse and repeat.

So what the complainers are saying is that they feel entitled to a Legendary. If they can’t get theirs without playing for 12 months, then everyone else should suffer the same fate. Put in place blocks so it requires 365 days of gaming before a Legendary unlocks. Surely people who have the time to play more aren’t making the game fair… eh? /sarcasm off

Please realize that there are both casual and hardcore players here. I fall in the middle, as I have full time work and a wife who’s expensive to maintain (gonna get a slap for that one). However, I make my “grind” fun by having a great guild full of fun people. I “grind” dungeons with them, and have a blast. I’m also very active in WvW, and I get good drops from killing Invaders (note- you need to kill lots of them to score good loot). I have enough Badges for two gifts, and there’s no way to buy those.

Moral of the story: everyone and anyone can get a Legendary. It requires both desire to go for it, and the will to play the game. If you don’t want to play the game normally, and have this need to have “easy mode”, there’s a way to bypass a lot of the farming. It’s called Gem to Gold conversions. Buy Gems, lots of them. Then convert to Gold and buy all the T6 mats from the TP at the current high prices. But that’s YOUR choice, not the game demanding you to do so.

ps- Markets go up and down. Right now, prices are high. There’s a chance that it’ll go down, but then climb higher later. If you need a real world example, look at the stock history of Apple.

Crafting in GW2 is not fun!

Smooth Penguin.5294

Crafting in GW2 is very disappointing, meaningless, and not fun because:

—no makers mark (name of crafter) on the armour/weapons.
—no way to even view a players armour.
—the items you craft are not worth the time it takes to gather the resources, profif-wise.
—the items you craft are not superior enough in function.

I was hoping GW2 crafting would at least be as fun as some of the 15+ year old games. But its very downgraded.

Why didn’t GW2 make a game with excellent crafting? Beautiful graphics and a fun questing system are good, but there needs to be more FUN things to do in an online game.

Sounds like you haven’t maxed your levels yet. Once you hit 400, you can start making profits, if you know what you’re doing.

You say you don’t want “easy mode”, yet in the same breath, you ask that they adjust it to make it easier for you to get. It sounds like you feel entitled to a Legendary. Am I wrong?

The prices on the market have gone up with the increased demand for T6 items. As I mentioned in another post, as more people max levels and acquire wealth (be it through farming or just playing the game normally), they now have the resources to purchase T6 mats from the TP. With Anet banning the farming bots, thus reducing the overall availability of mats to purchase, people are now charging/asking for higher prices. And you know what? People are PAYING these prices. So as long as people are WILLING to dish out the money, the market will reflect it game wide. I’m sorry if this affects you in a negative way, but that’s how markets work.

Now back to your “need” to get a Legendary (I say “need” because it sounds like you really want one). Pretty much everyone is able to get one, as playing the game normally will provide you the mats you need. Casual players will just take longer to get, but you CAN get them. As Anet stated, Legendary weapons are a journey, or perhaps saying over a long period of time. Just because you can’t get yours within a few months of the game doesn’t mean you can’t a year from now. Look at Bartho, he got his playing normally. Sure he may play a lot more than you, but all he did was play. If the mats don’t drop, you can choose to purchase them from the TP using money you got “from playing the game”. Note – Legendaries are not dependent on the TP, so your statement is incorrect there.

The only thing that one could complain about would be Precursors and Clovers. Anet already adjusted the drop rate of Precursors (while minor, I’ll take what I can get) from enemies or from the Forge. Clovers are the only thing that require pure luck, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Heck, I’m stuck at 61 after running through a stack of Shards and Ectos. But I’m not gonna complain to Anet to turn on easy mode, I’m gonna keep on trying until I get them.

Now to help you out, I’m gonna give you some quick tips on how you can help yourself on your Legendary journey.

Tip #1) Mine Mithril nodes and Elder Woods. Whenever you see one, go after it.

Tip #2) Craft your own Rares (Weapons and/or Armors)
Tip #2.1) Farm high level areas for T5 mats, or for coin to purchase them

>BSMO and everyone else who blames Anet

For the love of Dwayna, stop all this madness. Internal data breaches would mean all my “rich” friends would no longer have their precursors, Legendary mats, or even be playing. I trust Gaile and the other Anet employees when they say it’s not internal. Otherwise, the forums would be flooded with people complaining (note – the forums are filled with only a tiny percentage of GW2 account holders).

As was mentioned before, some of the hacks were due to:
1) players with bad personal security like easy to guess/common passwords
2) players with keyloggers/trojans
3) players who registered information on other websites that were hacked
4) players who had friends/family troll them by logging onto their computers and deleting everything

People will say anything in these forums to pass blame onto others, mainly because they are too ashamed to admit it might be their fault. And by fault I mean stuff like using the same password for everything, or too simple passwords, etc (yes, going to naughty websites and having keyloggers installed count too).

Remember, this is the internets. We can say anything and everything without a shred of proof. So when people say they’ve been hacked, and it can’t possibly be their fault because they are perfect angels with godly PC security, take it with a grain of salt.

If Anet says there is no evidence of an internal breach, I’m more inclined to believe them.

Inquiry on status/stability of the market.

The thing with markets is that there is never a flat stable period of time. There will always be times of stagnation (drop nerfs/hotfixes). There will always be times of surges (i.e. Karka chest). There are many factors that will influence the price of goods, be it in the real world, or here in the game.

One of the factors to the increase in demand is that, as the games gets older, more and more players get wealth. The hardcore players may have gotten gold faster (and got their Legendaries), but that was a small percentage of the total population. Now consider the majority of players who are finally catching up. They have Gold to spend, and with that Gold, they want to craft Exotics or Legendaries. So as the Supply topped off, and Demand now exceeds it, it explains the price of goods increasing.

The problem to this is not all players may have caught up in personal wealth. So these players are now suffering as they fall behind. They probably want to buy Ectos too, but simply can’t afford it. So then the game becomes “un-fun”, since their goals to get higher level gear seem further away (almost unattainable).

None of this is Anet’s fault. This is the way the market works. But were Anet to take too much drastic actions to artificially flood the economy with more high tier drops, this can cause lots of problems for the market. It’ll make the “poor” players happy, since they can afford more as the prices drop, but the “upper class” players are the ones with the money already. This is where speculation kicks in, with the “upper class” players buying up all the cheap goods, holding into them until the market spikes back up. This would then create a bigger wealth gap, since the rich will get richer, and the poor will be disheartened.

To add to this problem, I assume a lot of GW2 players aren’t familiar with dynamic markets within games (or real life). When they see prices spike, they will blame the game and want to quit. Once they realize markets fluctuate, and if they have a little patience, they’ll see a drop in all prices. I mean, if a majority of players reach a level where they’re happy, and stop buying high tier goods, Supply will naturally outpace Demand.

I don’t envy the econ Devs at Anet. They have to balance the needs of all players, while taking into consideration the economy as a whole. But we players are the ones responsible for high demand of goodies. So we should stop wondering about market stability, and just be happy we can swing our swords.

Obsidian Shards for a Legendary.

You don’t have nearly enough Karma for a Legendary yet. I just used a stack of Shards to get 61 Clovers. I’ll still need more Shards for the remaining 16 I need, then another stack for Gift of Mastery.

Account Hack [merged]

TL;DR

Keyloggers don’t care if you have a unique and/or hard password.

On a side note, I’ve seen anonymouse’s posts all over the place. I see no troll in telling people to secure their belongings. It’s like getting mad at Mike O’Brien for giving tips on his Account Security blog post.

Now here’s my way of never getting hacked:

1) Don’t visit naughty websites. If you do, use a different computer.
2) Use passwords that can’t be guessed
3) Use passwords that aren’t common. See the following CBS News link – http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57539366/the-25-most-common-passwords-of-2012/
4) Always have good AV/Firewall programs installed
5) Created an e-mail account ONLY FOR GW2.
6) Pray the forums and blog sites you registered with don’t get corrupted or hacked, and your personal information stolen.

Free Upgrade to Digital Deluxe Edition?

But then the description is indeed very misleading. Buying something you haven’t had before is not an upgrade. Having something and then purchasing something to make it better, that is an upgrade.

THEY upgraded the Digital edition to Digital Deluxe. That was a free upgrade worth $20.

Guild Bank HACKED!!!

Your Guild Bank was not hacked. Someone just took all the stuff from it. The person who took it probably was hacked, and then deleted the account after taking all the stuff. That might explain why you’d get an “Unknown User” in your history.

The thief and its gameplay - Your feedback [Merged]

Thieves are, by far, the most fun profession to play (IMO of course). But what would make it even more fun would be to add Combo Breaker/Counter type mechanics to them (think kung-fu movie fights). This would apply to melee only attacks. By default, they’re a “martial arts” profession, thus having some quick counters to end opponent attacks to get away seems logical.

So playing as a Thief, if another Thief or Warr is unloading on you, you could hit F2 or something, counter the attack, and have an ever so slight chance to escape. This alone could be OP, so some balance would be:

1) Require proper timing to counter a strike, making it more player skill than button mashing.
2) Cost a full bar of Initiative
3) Disabled all your attacks for 10 seconds regardless of successful counter.
