I’ve been undercutting by 1 copper since I started selling on the TP. But I have since learned the errors of my ways.
Now I undercut by 2 copper.
>OP
I’m confused. Are you jealous that you can’t make a Legendary? Or are you mad that you can’t afford to buy one?

Im in the same situation and ive found like 8 other people so far who also have the same story.
8 people out of hundreds of thousands of players worldwide. This doesn’t seem like a wide spread problem to me.
I can’t believe that Darkhaven would actually team up with Dragonbrand to knock us out of first place. DH was Trebbing our Keep while DB moved in with ground troops.
Don’t get me wrong, this week has been fun. Fighting China and Taiwan on their peak hours requires a lot of skill.
It’s funny to see people posting terms like Pay 2 Win, when the Legendaries in question are the same max stats of other fully available Exotics (and soon to be Ascended).
Mostly they are just too jealous that they’ll never be able to afford to make one, let alone buy one. Jealously tends to make people rage at Anet.
Exotics will not get scaled up in stats. A new tier of weapons for people to chase will be released. A legendary is simply guaranteed to be a bis item no matter how much additional grind, um, progression they want to throw at us.
I’m not talking about Exotics scaling. I’m talking about how Legendaries are scaled to Exotic levels currently, and will later increase when Ascended weapons come out.
And you know what i do feel entitled to my view IF they want to keep me around.
Don’t worry. Since there’s no monthly fees, you can always rejoin the game at a later point.
Why are people scared? I can solo all these with my Thief and a Short Bow. If you play smart, learn to dodge, and use hit and run tactics when your HP is low, you can win too!
You can sell the Clovers to the Merchant. Make some coin back!

tl;dr
All I hear is “I feel entitled to stuff and Anet won’t give it to me”.
Why would you expect a low level character getting anything of high level? Drops were meant to be comparable to the level of the character getting it. So the fact that low level characters get low level drops should be a given.
Instead of complaining, perhaps you should just farm with your lv 80.
The Wintersday baby quaggan miniature can also be crafted in the Mystic Forge by using any combination of miniature snowmen, infinirarium, or festive golems, and 50 enchanted stuffing (available in-game).

They’d do well to drop the RNG boxes in the future; they’re burning plenty of cash-paying players, players who may decide not to buy any gems at all because of that one time they were burned.
You’ll notice that the ones complaining about RNG are the ones who keep doing it over and over and over.
Here’s what people AREN’T getting about gambling.
Lottery tickets. Win or lose.
Wintersday chests: You’re getting a prize every time. This > Gambling Laws. I’m sorry it’s not the best prize, but it is a prize. I’m sorry if people think ugly sweaters aren’t a prize, but they are.
You win every time you open one, and you win everytime you open Giant Wintersday gifts. People are upset because they wanted to win the super-epic-awesome-mega-rare-best-prize, and didn’t.
You make a good point. It’s still a “gamble” in the sense that you’re getting a random item, but you never walk away empty handed.
Perhaps the problem here is the way we view the word “gamble”. If you replace that for with “chance”, it has less of a negative tone to it. So if you’re upset with the RNG of presents and chests, you should just say “I don’t want to take that chance.”
Why are we still having this discussion? It’s been established that 1 copper, 1 silver, or 1 gold less than someone else’s item is still less. And if it’s less, it will sell first.
Because if the amount they lose is so insignificant they don’t give the slightest kitten about it then they don’t deserve to go first.
But if the price is lower, it should sell first. I still don’t understand what the problem is here.
This entire argument is that 1c lower on a 100g item (or even 10g, 5g) shouldn’t be low enough to justify someone getting their item sold before the person who listed it before them, because 1c out of 100g isn’t substantial enough to call it any kind of loss to the seller. OP is saying that this is semantically the same as listing it for the exact price as the previous lister and getting it sold first. It creates a Last-In First-Out system that, for items that don’t sell fast enough, can result in starving out the first lister (who actually set the current price on the item), and his item is never sold.
Though I imagine by this point, you do understand what’s being said, you just don’t think it is a problem.
Yeah I don’t see any problem to offering a product at a lower price. I get undercut all the time, but I don’t rage at the system. I just wait my turn in line and the item gets sold. If I feel pushy, I’ll relist and undercut the other person. I take a huge loss from relisting fees, but there are times when I just won’t let someone beat me.
1) pretty much agree
2) don’t agree……since they have the rng tied to rl cash expenditures..it’s just as bad as playing the lotto or at casino…it was once a signature of the game/series that it didn’t include these kinds of things
3) definitely don’t agree…the number one influence on prices is drop rate, which they control….players only settle on prices derived from said drop rate….much like the price of diamonds…. artificially high, not because the merchants make it so, but rather DeBeers etc…makes it so…which is why they aren’t allow on US soil
4) same deal as 3…..they are the ones with the most influence…..they create demand via additions…while I agree the players do play a role in it….it’s plainly obvious that the additions alter the demand
5) it’s pretty easy to see that casual/new players are being left on the side of the road in many aspects of the game…..from empty open worlds, no proper lfg tool (ig), inflation, etc all have effecst that only widen the gap between the haves and the have nots
6)I agree sorta……festival content should be accessible to everyone….specially when an achievement is tied to it….as I have noted b4 most players clamoring for harder content don’t actually want harder content alone…they only want it if tied to exclusive rewards…if harder content is available w/o exclusive rewards then by all means add tons of it, but I highly doubt that would please those that want it
7) the only reason this is a iffy topic is b/c ip laws are still in infancy…things will change with time to what consumers have rights to and what ip holders have rights to
8)just a personal note here…. I could care less bout the karka compensation…I’d much much rather have compensation for the lack of wvw bonuses for over 1k hours…it makes the karaka deal look like a joke in comparison
While we can agree to disagreeing, I’d like to respond to a couple of things (in no particular order).
The #7 point can be iffy if the company doesn’t do a good job with their EULA and ToS. Perhaps in the future, people will be able to sell their accounts off to someone else, but bottom line is all virtual items is property of the game company. This would be more like selling the rights to access the virtual items via the account in question.
RNG – What you’re mentioning with #2 is using $$$ to buy Gems, then buying presents with Gems. That’s only a part of the whole picture. I was referring to RNG as a means to determine rarity. Without RNG, there’d be no rare item, as everything would have a specific guaranteed drop (i.e. Kill the Mega Rat and get a Twilight). And if someone makes the argument that a “rare” item could just be a pure shop item, that would open a whole different can of worms.
As for the TP, Anet does control the drop rates. But it’s us players collectively who determine the price of each item. The more the player base wants something rare, the price will increase. Part of that increase in price is because there are those who stockpile them, thus lowering the overall Supply available on the TP. If I were to unload my stack of Charged Lodestones all at once, for a much lower price than what’s listed, I could send the market into a temporary fit. But over time, the market will correct itself, and prices will rise or fall accordingly. And when Anet releases new content, the demand for said content is still determined by us players.
There’s also a reference to Terminator, seeing as how the robot in the workshop wants to kill you.
/sarcasm off
If a company offers a product that someone wants, there’s nothing wrong with that. How would they know if a customer who has a problem with an addiction to virtual fluff? That’s something personal, and the one with the problem should be smart enough to recognize it and seek help.
It comes down to the freedom of choice. Anet makes premium content available to all players. Completely optional premium content. And heaven forbid someone wanting to spend money to buy something from the Gem store that can be obtained for free by doing events.
It requires teamwork, since your skillbar is emptied as soon as you pick up a present. If you have a bad team that won’t help you, there’s nothing you can do.
I think you’re attacking the wrong person. There are times when a gift carrier’s team will run with him, blocking snowballs as a shield.
Why are we still having this discussion? It’s been established that 1 copper, 1 silver, or 1 gold less than someone else’s item is still less. And if it’s less, it will sell first.
Do you want Anet to give the option for buyers to select whatever price he wants to pay from the list of sellers? That’ll combat undercutting, as I’m sure the buyer would be absolutely thrilled to pay more for an item that he could get for less.
I like your examples and i agree with them. Except
Argument 8 i understand ppl can spend more time on the game than i can , and i would expect them to have more than i do. My argument is because of number 3 a player with more time will have a legendary for much CHEAPER than a person without the time. Ofcs they will have it quicker due to time invested but I don’t think the finish line should move further and further away for the casual player for the same item. If all I good and fair you will see my logic in that.
This may be true, but the prices of each item is based on the Demand for them. Anet hasn’t changed the formula to make a Legendary. Each requirement is the same for Casual and Hardcore players. Because more players are now starting their journey to getting their own Legendary, more players need T6 mats. The “goal post” is only moving because the players themselves are causing it.
While I don’t feel Anet should do a thing about this, they are increasing the drop rates for some of the T6 mats. Remember, they need to take into consideration ALL players, not just a segment. If Anet made T6 mats super easy to get, that would be punishing Hardcore players for taking the time to farm/buy them early on. It seems a slight increase in drop rates is a good balance between making the mats more available to everyone, without hitting the easy mode button.
Argument #5: Casual players suffer the most.
Not exactly. Casual players who want premium stuff (i.e. Legendaries, rare mini pets, etc.) suffer. But that’s their own fault, so to speak. The game does NOT require you to get the best looking items to play or complete the story. People who don’t have the time to invest in playing the game, but want all the good stuff four months into the new game, made the choice to suffer. Some of these things were meant as a long term journey/investment. Just because you can’t have the goodies now doesn’t mean you can’t have them a year from now. And any complaints about present/box/chest RNG should go back and read the Argument #2 example.
Argument #6: Jumping puzzles are hard, and should be dumbed down.
The JPs are challenging indeed. Some love the challenge, and some don’t have the skills to do them. Just because something is difficult for you doesn’t mean Anet should make easy mode. Do you want to just walk a straight line and be rewarded with an Enormous Chest? There’s no Up Up, Down Down, Left Right Left Right cheat codes here. The puzzles are there, but they aren’t required to complete. If you don’t have fun doing them, find something else to do. And IF you feel compelled to do them, then take the time you use to complain, and refocus on honing your skills. Less QQ, more Pew Pew.
Argument #7: I paid for this game, so I should get everything I want.
No. You paid for the right to play this game. You don’t own the game or the contents within. Anet provides you a game to play, and the option to purchase premium content. The only thing players are entitled to is fun, but each player has a different definition of that term. If the game doesn’t give you the fun you want, then this game isn’t for you.
Argument #8: Players who have more time to play have better stuff than me.
So what’s your point? If someone puts in more time to play, how is that unfair? This game is meant for a wide variety of people to enjoy. If Player A got a Legendary in two months because he played 4x as much as Player B, that doesn’t mean Anet should turn on easy mode to satisfy someone’s jealously.
Argument #9: There are still game bugs and they break the game.
Yes there are bugs and exploits that exist, or are created with updates. Anet fixes them as fast as they can without breaking other game mechanics at the same time. When a bug causes reduced drops, so far the company has been good about offering compensation (i.e. Karka end chest).
As a player, I’m here to offer some helpful responses to all the others who constantly complain about the market and Gem Store. This will also cover discussions ranging from Legendary materials to Holiday Event items and puzzles (just to have everything in one place). I’m hopeful this will educate a few, and we’ll have much less QQ overall.
Argument #1: Anet is forcing me to buy stuff.
No. Anet is not forcing the players to do anything. They provide a game that requires no monthly fees to play, and no mandatory microtransactions (i.e. Gem purchases) to complete/have fun. Yes they provide premium content that players can purchase, but these are by player choice to get. Complaining that one cannot get the mini pets they want is akin to being mad at the rich guy driving the Porsche.
Argument #2: RNG is game breaking and should be eliminated.
No. RNG exists in all games. When I was little, I would hunt for hours to find that Metal Slime in Dragon Warrior. The same exists here, only on a larger scale. People want Mystic Clovers, Tier 6 mats, or certain mini pets so bad, that when they can’t get it, they blame the game mechanics. Players need to remember that certain things are more rare than others, so any percentage roll to get them will be rightfully smaller. If it were easy to get, everyone would have it, and it would no longer be “rare”.
Argument #3: Trading Post item prices are high and it’s Anet’s fault.
Wrong. Players control the prices on the market. While Anet does control the means to which rare items drop, the people who get these are free to determine whatever price they choose to sell them for. The reason why prices would remain high is because there are those who freely choose to purchase these items at said high prices. That’s how a market works. Player A has an item for sale, and Player B will buy it. If Player B can’t afford the item, then Player C will buy it.
Argument #4: Gem/Gold exchange rates are high and it’s Anet’s fault.
Wrong again. Player demand drives the exchange rates. If more players are using Gold to exchange for Gems, the ratio to which the exchange is made slowly goes up. At the same time, the ratio for players using Gems to exchange for Gold goes down. And vice versa. As the game gets older, more players are gaining wealth. These players can now afford to convert their Gold into Gems. With time, even more players will have the means to afford conversions. But if the rates get too high for comfort, players will naturally stop, and the rates will drop as more Gem to Gold exchanges are made.
I’m sorry Anet didn’t create an “easy mode” button to buy from the Gem store.
I think if you keep playing, one day you might be good enough to finish a challenging jumping puzzle. Then you can join all of us who thinks this JP was way too easy.
aww.. I want one.. but I’m really not prepared to pay more than 2-3$ for an ingame mini.. the toy minis in the gem store seem ok, could be a bit cheaper (150 gems maybe).
I always thought microtransactions were invented so players would pay a small amount for something small – not a large amount for some small cosmetic item – thus the part micro in the name.
The toy minis are free if you play the game. You’re just paying Gems to skip playing the events.
This all boils down to the freedom to sell for whatever price you want. I don’t care about other sellers, as I only see MY items and MY profit. And because I don’t care about other sellers, that trumps everything being posted in this thread.
Bought the game and now it's now $15 cheaper!

Be careful about asking for refunds or doing chargebacks. I believe Anet flags individuals who do this.
And as for Elandir.8730, please don’t try to be a lawyer by using Google to justify legal processes he has absolutely no experience or background in.

Is there any way for me to get a refund for the armor?
No there isn’t. And this question has been asked and answered a million times already.
Feedback – Please turn on Hard Mode and increase the value of the end chest. I loved that exciting feeling when the green slime was right behind me as I made some last second jumps up the clocktower.
Classy guys :/ No, I’m not the guy who doesn’t use the mouse. Thanks for the personal jab and cruel sarcasm, Ansultares.1567.
And SmoothPenguin, I took it in context and your points make sense, but they are out of sync with this thread. I said in the OP I’m enjoying the game. It’s the TREATMENT, as exemplified in the post above yours (which I realise is trolling) in the forums that I’m fighting.
My apologies. I thought you were complaining about being handicapped, and not being able to play the game.
With all due respect, if you are wheelchair bound, and you apply for a job as a firefighter, do you feel emergencies should adjust their level of difficulty to accommodate you so you can get the job?
Take my above statement into context here. Anet made this game for everyone to enjoy. However, there will always be those who can’t play as well as others. Be it skill level or physical handicap. No two players are truly the same. So if there’s a part of the game that you simply cannot do, please don’t expect Anet to adjust it for every single person. That’s being completely unreasonable.
The clocktower was hard for some, and Anet Devs took that into consideration and made a puzzle that more people could enjoy. Even if it meant making it much easier, they found a good balance to still have the puzzle be fun.
Precursors were a little too hard to get, so Anet said they’re looking into a new way to get one, at the same time adjusting the RNG rates for the Forge.
If Anet were to do something so that everyone could win, they’re probably have to make a puzzle where you just walk in a straight line to get to an Enormous Chest. But even then 0.01% of the population still might not be able to complete it.
If you were to add easy mode to any jump puzzle, the rewards better not be the same. Heck, if easy mode jump puzzles were made, they should have NO rewards.
TL;DR
All the complainers in this thread are just looking for easy mode because they have a sense of Entitlement for rewards.
This puzzle was just beyond easy. Fun… but too easy. I would have like to have the snowman throw stuff at you to add more fear. I can only pray and hope that they add more Clocktowers to this game.
This was done so that you couldn’t speculate and (easily) flip Gems/Coin like a stock market.
However, there still is a way to make money flipping, but that requires time.
Remember that 1 Gold less and 1 Copper less is still less. So the lower price does indeed deserve to go first.
Justify that. I’ve written several pages of text arguing why that isn’t the case. Your response is that the current system is correct because it is correct.
1c is 0.33% of the cost level 80s pay to move to a new area, 0.9% of the cost people pay to move within an area. 1.25% a single piece of cotton.
You’re arguing semantics: 1c less is obviously technically less. But you’re ignoring the reality of the situation. 1c either way is not actually an amount worthy of being paid attention to by every player.
Starting gear costs 1c, and you get 5 of those items just for creating a character. And I’d imagine most don’t bother vendoring that gear before deleting the character.
If you want to play word games then we don’t really have anything to talk about. I admit that 1c less is less, what I disagree with is that 1c less is functionally less to the point where it deserves to jump infront of other people. What constitutes an appropriate amount that represents a true undercut? I don’t know- I’ve floated 5% as an idea. What percentage do you think is reasonable? So far it seems 0.000001% is perfectly reasonable to you. Is this the case?
My justification is that it doesn’t matter what price YOU feel is appropriate. All that matters is what price I ask for. If it’s 1cp less, the person buying it won’t care. All they want is the item, and if the price starts to trickle downwards due to our little Price War, all the better for them.
All the other Sell Orders don’t matter to me either. This is a competition (of sorts) to sell our items. There is no rule or law that dictates what I can or cannot sell for, and there shouldn’t be. So if I place my item for 1 copper less, that means I’m making less money than if the other guy sells his for 1 copper more. If it make him feel better, he can say he made more of a profit than me.
Only after we run out of the supply we still have, and if people decide to stop paying our prices.
How is this punishing us? It’s called a sale. Every retailer has one of these. Look in your Sunday newspaper and see all the ads for the supermarket? Are you mad that milk is $1 cheaper this week than the last two? If so, Black Friday must have really gotten you mad.
You paid for a game. You played the game. And if you’re still playing, that means you’re enjoying the game. If you quit, there’s no monthly fees, so you can come back at anytime. GW2 will be here to welcome you back with open arms.
There will be a point where the Gold to Gem conversion will hit a ceiling. That point is where a majority of players will flat out refuse to pay. Then prices will slowly come down to a comfortable level. Once that happens, the cycle continues and the prices will go back up.
After a few of these cycles, we’ll be able to see what the players will consider an average, and it’ll probably steady itself around that range.
the system, as it is, rewards the second comer simply for coming to the market later by allowing them to list the item at the 1c undercut and get their item sold before the first seller.
And if it was a 1g undercut, is your item any more unsold? You’re having an emotional reaction to something that makes no material difference to you. The actual problem here is that it’s a disadvantage to post first, which is why I’ve said previously that sellers should have an option to lower their price so that they can remain competitive.
Except if it was undercut by 1g then there’s actually a significant difference in price, so the person selling it for less deserved to go first.
Remember that 1 Gold less and 1 Copper less is still less. So the lower price does indeed deserve to go first.
Gems are virtual, therefore unlimited in quantity. What he means is the supply of the Gems PURCHASED (either by real money, or in game coin). It’s really simple if you stop and think. The more players purchasing Gems with in game coin, the lower the ratio you gets. At the same time, the ratio increases for players buying in game coin with Gems.
It’s like playing a game of tug-o-war. Right now, the Gem holders are winning, as their Gems become more valuable. However, none of this is static, so at some point, players will stop converting in game coin to Gems, and the balance will shift.
Reminder – this game isn’t that old. Keep an eye on how things fluctuate after GW2 is a year old. You’ll see how major events impact the exchange. Then, if you’re smart enough, you’ll know how to profit off of it.
I love RNG. I personally wish they dropped the assumed rate of 33% to much lower (say 15% to 20%). That’ll make all Legendary weapons truly legendary. And if I were to get mine with low RNG rates on Clovers, I’ll enjoy it far more.
After all, you don’t “need” better than blues to complete the game.
Exactly! I’m glad you agree with me.
You don’t need a Legendary to play the game. You don’t need Exotics. You don’t need Rares. All these things do is make the game easier for you. but if you have skill, you can still do well with Blue equipment. But each player CHOOSES to want to get the best gear, and thus the treadmill that starts is the individual’s own doing. As such, if the individual makes the choice to jump on that treadmill, they shouldn’t complain about the requirement paths they selected.
I chose to go after a Legendary. I know that it’ll take time. And I understand fully how RNG can irritate players making Clovers (I’m still stuck at 61 with increasing Mystic Coin and Ecto prices). But I’ll never blame Anet or the system because simply put, I don’t feel entitled to it. I’m earning it.
There is no harm to the other person. It’s not like he lost his item. After my goods are sold, the other high priced stuff will show up as the next “lowest” priced good. He then has an opportunity to sell, and then everyone is happy. I’m only getting to sell my stuff quicker.
And the 10 people undercutting you will make it so you can’t sell your stuff quicker. Not by any real amount anyway.
No, then I just undercut the under-cutters with more stuff at a lower rate. It’s a vicious cycle, but one I refuse to lose at.
The only time I don’t bother with undercutting by 1cp is at the end of the nite, when I log out. At that time, I’ll most likely up the amount I undercut by a 50 cp to 1 silver.
Gift of mastery isn’t RNG at all. Gift of fortune is RNG personalized. Gift of Legendary X is gift of Farming.
Gift of Mastery has no RNG components? 500 WvW badges. You will face RNG with those no matter how you try to get them. Even the jump puzzle you have to face RNG.
How do you get the karma or fractal relics for the obsidian without RNG?
How do you get the exp for the skill points without RNG?
How do you explore the entire world without encoutering the RNG?
You cannot swing your sword, loot or salvage an item, play a DE, or interact with anyone without enountering a RNG. It is everywhere. People only complain when the odds of a desired outcome are low. The fact that the result is random doesn’t bother them until they don’t want to pay the price. If it wasn’t random, the complaint would be that the price is too high.
It’s true. But there are times when players can have RNG on their side with skill. I have over 1100 Badges and over a million Karma just from WvWing part-time. Just joining a zerg only gives you Karma. You gotta learn how to kill in PvP in order to get Badges. The better you are, the more chances you get at Badge drops.
More drops = more RNG chances.
Great. Now everyone will know how we supply the TP with the rocks. Thanks for helping kill my Guild’s stream of profit OP…

Wanted to share a feel good story, since there are still people who feel Anet doesn’t care about the players. My friend’s sister had her account hacked, and e-mailed Support for help. Within a couple of minutes she received a response from the Support Team, and had her account back within 30 minutes after back and forth confirmations.
The speed of the recovery isn’t the only thing that’s amazing. It’s the fact that it’s 1:30am Pacific time, and there’s someone working. If that doesn’t show how far game support has come, I don’t know what will.
Much love for Anet!
