Grenades are slow moving and easy to dodge unless you let the engi get right on top of you. HGH is not actually that brilliant by itself, it’s a pressure build firstly and requires your concentration on their team mates while the engi kills from afar..
This this and this. Grenades are awesome, but remember they are NOT insta-cast AOE. Making them is a skill shot. Do NOT stay on top of the engi. Kite. If you cant kill him from range, then move in between grenade lobes, strike, and move away. Try to move in unpredictable patterns as good engis will lead you if you’re moving in a straight line.
Most engis will open with freeze and shrapnel grenades (chill and bleeds). If you avoid these, you’re golden.
HGH eng does far too much damage, it’s pretty much the only class that constantly puts me at 10% hp every 2 seconds. Even with wall of reflect and shield spirit they’re still annoying as hell. Hopefully their damage gets toned down, probably with a nerf to keeping 25 might up 24/7. Dying to 30k burn damage when I’m constantly removing conditions and always timing my condition removals properly isn’t fun.
I’m gonna catch some flak from my fellow engis, but I agree hgh might stacking is on the op side. I hope they dont ruin it, because grenades are extremely useful and downright fun. Its more an issue with the might stacks than the grenades themselves though.

I have not yet created a support ticket, because well, its my stupidity which is responsible for this, but a guildie wanted to buy some charged lodestones and I mailed them. Problem is I didn’t create mail by opening my contacts list but by typing in his username. He did not receive the items and I fear I might have sent them to some lucky person on my list instead.
Is there any way to find out where they actually went? I’d appreciate a response. Again I’m trying not to sound like I’m complaining and I’m pretty much SOL, but I figured I’d ask.
As for the stealing boons being useless..does that count for the warrior 30 second elite: Fury, might, Swiftness? How about the long duration potion buffs by Engineers?
Am I missing something?
Signet of rage is a 48 second (traited) cooldown which can be stolen by a thief for 0 cooldown.
L2p though and all that good stuff…
Currently Necromancers are able to stack bleeding + poison + dmg on fear with their marks constantly along with the ability to have another hp bar and use plauge for massive dmg. it feels really overpowered.
Totally understand why I see so many necros in pvp now as opposed to thieves. Thanks for this revelation.
Its amazing that in the pvp forum we find QQing about how horrible mesmers are.
We aren’t horrible, we aren’t underpowered, we’re just broken like most other classes. We’ve taken this topic to this subforum because there are actual devs in here, unlike the class forums. Which you would have noticed if you had read the op.
With all due respect, play a warrior and engineer if you want to see some really broken mechanics.
Anet invited such issues because they gave such an ability to a class which doesnt have cooldowns.
Its amazing that in the pvp forum we find QQing about how horrible mesmers are.
What more ridiculous abilities do you want op?
And yet another example of why matchups suck. People stack the same few servers.
ANet cannot win, it seems. Either the matchups get stale, or they are too imbalanced. I guess you can’t please everyone, but is there a way to please nearly everyone?
.
Its the bandwagon crew that fill up a few servers while the others are empty who ruin the matchups.
Sorry dudes, but if the last patch is indicative of anything its that anet seems to think warrior’s need more damage, so I doubt they’ll be getting around to actually addressing whats wrong with the class anytime soon.
I’ve pretty much walked away from this class now that my guardian is 80. I only keep this toon around for map completion and dungeons. Otherwise its tedious in wvw and downright frustrating in pvp.
Props to those who are gonna stick it out, but I’m done with the warrior.
I am quite frankly alittle dissapointed in how Zero has been treated in the forums by my fellow Maguumans. EB is not exactly overflowing with commanders on Mag and Zero kind of stuck his neck out to do some heavy lifting in a place where most of the bigger WvW focused guilds dont dare to tread. Tryint to parlay the pugs into a decent fighting force in EB is something I would never do. Everyone makes mistakes, but I’ll tell you right now I would never buy a tag since you become the target of every quasi commander and know it all. Its true some commanders are idiots (like a certain one who bombarded everyone with whispers for gold donations), but its a tough job. I followed him around a few times and he didnt’ strike me as the way some people want to protray him.
So if we like, explain things in a rational and objective manner looking at issues from all sides and stuff…Anet will actually listen?
I have a norn warrior lvl 80 and decided to make an asura warrior just to see myself. I think I landed 100b more times in 3 games on my asura than I had in the previous 30 with my norn. Maybe not telegraphing your moves to the entire map in advance helps.
I plan on keeping the asura.
People and thier flavour of the month classes. Thieves are rangers make up the majority of hotjoin these days. Its kinda sad really.
There’s no doubt about it. WvW is boring.
Mace for sure. Superior sigil of paralyzation. A guild mate of mine runs this in pvp. Its nasty. He can land his entire 100b on someone with his setup.
Rangers need pets. We should accept this. Since so much of their utilities and traits are reliant on them, they should be buffed to where they are of actual use.
Stupid things like the pet outhealing damage done to the ranger underwater are dumb and need to go though.
Rangers needed buffs no doubt. Did the devs take it too far? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I’m encountering a buttload more rangers in pvp these days. That tells me that something is up. Must investigate more.
I’d like to know which buffs are these that have gone too far.
Que?
Gw2 is marketed as a competitive PvP title, and so this is where most of our focus goes (as should most of the dev’s imo).
What a very narrow view of things. It must be nice to be so tightly wrapped up in yourself you don’t notice whats actually going on around you.
There are some who like pvp and shun everything else.
Other prefer wvw and could care less about pvp and pve.
Still others spend their time exclusively in pve doing dungeons and fractals and exploring.
Believing that what you like is the core of the game and that it should be the focus of the developers solely is just misguided. There is a whole slew of players who could care less about pvp (or wvw…or pve etc). Don’t come down with the ‘chosen one’ syndrome.
I love my guardian. Much more so than my warrior. More survivable and able to mitigate damage in a way that the warrior cannot. The burst advantage the warrior has IMO is nullified by this fact.
Pros:
-Healing is very good. Scales much better than my warrior.
-Protection is hella powerful
-Condition removal is amongst the best in the game
-Symbols, shouts, consecrations mean very good team support. The more team mates around the more the guardian shines
-Some of the minor traits are some of the best in the game
-Good synergy in valor, honor and virtue lines
Cons
-Elite skills can be…meh
-Not great at 1v1
-The zeal and radiance trait lines could use some rework
-No real condition builds (which doesnt bother me too much to be honest)

I would love for all turrets to be viable options in an aoe heavy environment. Make me WANT to make a turret build. Make enemies have to stop and think about taking on an engi with turrets. Don’t make them op, but make them at the very least viable and us players will react. Sure some people might not give up their kits or elixirs for turrets, but a great deal of us would love to have the choice of whether to or not.
Ditto for gadgets. Finding the balance where they can be viable alternatives to elixirs and kits can be tough, but I hope anet are working towards this. I understand people joke about warrior banner buffs and engi turret buffs, but I’m all for buffing them if they can become actually useful in pvp/wvw.
The healing turret change isnt necassarily a bad thing. But until their survivability is increased, its really only a half measure.
Arenanet said they didn’t like that people weren’t using the turret and instantly picking it up, so nerfing the instant effect makes sense.
Except it melts in aoe damage instantly. Make people have to keep it out longer, but dont substantially increase its survivability. Smart no?
Rangers needed buffs no doubt. Did the devs take it too far? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I’m encountering a buttload more rangers in pvp these days. That tells me that something is up. Must investigate more.
Max rank is actually around 65, but you have to farm hotjoin/custom arenas all day to get there so soon…80 will take a lot of time, as it should be in a game called guild wars..
lol
Guardians do not have viable condition builds I have discovered. They’re only really able to put out burning with any certainty, and one condition can be cleansed with ease. Yes you could do a precision based build and slot some “x% chance to cause [name condition] on critical” but thats far from something you want to build you’re class around I think. Especially since other classes can simply cause conditions with their normal attacks. Take my engineer. On a pistol-pistol setup he can do: bleeding, poison, confusion, burn (not including ‘soft conditions’ like blind and imob). Compare that to a guardian who does…burning every fifth attack. Naw, don’t spec for condition damage.
If I were you I’d go for a mix. I use a split between knights-soldiers-clerics armor (2 pieces of each) and zerker and knights trinkets. I mostly wvw and it does ok. Altrustic healing is what I work towards, though I’m still experimenting and havent decided on the runes yet. I’m using soldiers at the moment but they’re not ideal. I want divinity runes like I use in pvp.
The build is called the altrustic healing build. Its on here…very cookie cutter stuff by now.
Dogged March was good (in wvw…with melandru…and food).
Everything else was blah.
So, warrior still sucks. Just not as much.
I will say this: A warrior who is 3rd or 4th man into a fight thats already started can kitten some kitten up.
But for me, if someone’s coming to contest a point I’m holding or vice versa, I’d rather be on my guardian or engi.
OP, your warrior is kinda at the low end of the pvp spectrum (ok it flat out sucks).
I recently levelled a guardian and while the damage is less, even running with full zerker setup (offensive that is), I can still outlast a fight much longer than I could on my warrior. I also have good condition removal (even passive ones!) and some nice CC. Its not a 1v1 build, but honestly, its a zerg gankfest in pvp (except tpvp) where you’ll end up fighting in groups or against groups and the guardian is very fun in that setting and very important to the team.
Engineer I must also recommend for the coolness factor. All those kits and wacky abilities is great fun. Also another class much much better and more survivable than the warrior who ironically has the highest hp and armor in the game (means nothing).
I don’t see anything particularly heinous there to be honest. OP man up.
Warrior invulnerability still functions like the non crap version of Elixir-S.
I wouldn’t trade even the post patch version of elixir s for endure pain.
You still get CC’d by stuff. You still eat conditions. You cannot use it to stomp/revive.
Usually people popping endure pain are in “OMG I’m gonna die” mode or some 100b noob who just popped bulls charge and frenzy and are now left sans utility skills.
I’m on my third profession, and ALL 3 have crap which is useless. I didn’t say they love engis like they seem to love elementalists (boo hoo rtl nerf…), but I’d still rather my engi over my warrior. No doubt we need ALL builds viable. If I want turrets, I shouldnt be kitten by the choice. Same thing for gadgets, same thing for kits, same thing for elixirs. Let me play the way I want anet. Give me a reason to play ALL my tools.
Bomb engis in pvp with pistol/shield…good luck with that.
I’m usually one of the comlainers myself, and using elixir s to heal is sorely missed, so is the confusion nerf (which was uncessacary but not engi focused), but no engis have not been nerfed. Its still a work in progress.
If Anet wants to push turrets, they need to make them take seriously reduced aor dmg. If they’re out pets, then make them as hard to kill as ranger pets. And make gadgets useful kitten
When they kill hgh (….in hindsight its wayyyyy op if you’ve played against it), they better buff bombs.
I think you people are overreacting. Engi is very viable.
The only issues with engi are that turrets still suck and gadgets need re-work.
Are you sure your stability isn’t being stolen by a sword thief or your boons corrupted by a necro?
Ya it was still on my bar.
Only works if you have the boon up BEFORE the CC hits. If you had the Boon and you still got hit by CC — it either got stolen, stripped or you were already CC’ed beforehand.
Downed enemy→stand your ground→feared off.
I have seen numerous times today and yesterday that I’ve used stand your ground for a stomp only to be feared off imediately afterwards.
Whats the deal?
I love bacon too. And, we are hustling to make this a reality. Just remember to listen to George Michael. “You’ve gotta have faith.”
Crap so I have to save badges instead of blowing them on armor for my alts?
I only recently started rolling a guardian, but my pal is 100% convinced he is doing exactly the same damage as before with retaliation.
if you want to see more, theyre on the votf homepage!
+1 thanks for the laughs mate. If you did those, you’ve got some talents for sure. lol
My fav….
I love how there are 3 people playing and 5-6 spectators. Makes joining games super fun.
Very well done!
Haha. Stickin’ my head in. How goes the drama?
This thread is always so chatty. We are only on page 3 of ours, but I think everyone, when on, are busy fighting. To be honest it’s been very calm….very…
It’s only cause Maguuma isn’t Maguuma’ing your forum. I think DB demoralized them, and now KN is continuing the pain.
Thats not true. The difference is 10k right now and its been a fun few nights with KN and Yaks. Especially since we’re not waking up to 6 hours of all green point ticks because of asian pvd like we were with you.
As for OP: People complain about warriors for the same reason people complain about thieves. The burst. Granted a 100b BC-bolas is a one-trick pony, but it’s extremely deadly if the enemy is completely unprepared for it.
If any semi-conscious player sees a gs warrior 100b should hardly ever down them. Only if that other player has blown their cooldowns (3rd man in situation) or…if they’re afk.
To the op, people complaints mostly focus on pvp ascpects and not pve where the warrior is king. We’ll see after this patch though how things play out. I think engineers, some mesmer build and even guardians might fall a bit, and thieves and warriors might rise. Whether any of the last 2 will overtake any of the first 3 remains to be seen.
Well, since confusion and retaliation punishes others for taking action. You can expect to see more action or more willingness to take action. I think the change will be fine. I just hope mesmers and engineers have other skills buffed to compensate.
It punished stupid players who do not pay attention to what buffs their target has or what conditions they had on themselves. It doesnt, and never did punish players who were conscious of their battlespace.
This smacks of a nerf to appease the lowest common denominator. Thanks for buffing prybar #3 in the engineer tool kit only to kill it one month later Anet.
So…one month after the prybar buff, Anet has pretty much rendered it useless by destroying confusion damage. Pistol #3, bomb kit #3 and tool kit #3 will now be much less useful in WvW.
Thoughts? Comments? i know engis are not typically confusion based, but I very much was enjoying stacking thieves/rangers etc with confusion since it punishes primarily those who do not pay attention or the skill spammers and not smart players.
Hate this change personally.
I main a warrior and have recently begin leveling my guardian.
In PVE the warrior is king and the guardian is right there. Warriors are always in demand for dungeons and fractals etc for their dps. Guardians too for their team support.
The problems arise for the warrior in places like PVP and to a lesser extend WvW in that unlike the guardian, warriors cannot count on out dps-ing thier enemies in competitive game modes. Conditions, while a minor nuisance in PVE are real problems in competitive. The guardian can deal with these just the same, while the warriors weaknesses begin to show. Cripples, chills, imobs will KILL your warrior. Signets are useless (unlike guardians) and condition removal is sparse unless u run soldier or melandru runes….but that is gear which every class can do, not builds. Guardians for instance can build to have multiple conditions clear automatically every ten seconds; warriors cannot.
Warriors also have no access to protection and limited regen. Guardians are boon machines, while warriors can reliably provide only fury, might and swiftness on command.
Where warriors do have an advantage in my opinion is swiftness (traited warhorn can provide perma swiftness) and long range weapons which the guardian can’t really match. Close in the sword of both classes is a decent gap closer of low tier dmg. The hammer on both is also very good cc. Warrior greatsword can dish out much more dps than the guardians, but its not easy to land 100 blades on a half awake target. Axe-shield is a fantastic dps-defensive warrior combo, and the f1 skill of the axe is you land and crit can one shot people.
Decide for yourself, but bear this in mind. GOOD players will excel with any class. This game is just as much about mitigating damage against you as it is about laying the smackdown on someone else. With this in mind, right now the guardian is in a much better place than the warrior. Yes no one can match the warrior’s dps, but if you’re getting mauled by conditions and cc with limited removal options, what does it matter since its that much harder for you to land those killer blows?
Typical Mags attitude. You got owned, now you make excuses. You run from fights, and then post on forum because this is the only place you have skill. I’m glad we’re leaving you guys tomorrow.
And just for the record, Mags started this discussion yet again. We owned you in the field, and then went on with our raid. You give your server a bad name.
When your status as server flavour of the month comes to a fantastic end and the exodus begins, do us all a favour and refrain from posting your heartfelt ramblings on here m’kay?
I dont wish for peoples playing experiences to be soured, but I have to admit, I won’t shed a tear for DB when it implodes. And thats nothing to do with them winning the tier.
(edited by SmoothHussler.6387)
Can’t say that I’m surprised, guilds that transfer when their server loses will always be guilds that transfer when their server loses.
Seems that way doesnt it?
Remember, when exiting the bandwagon, roll as to avoid serious injury.
Engineer man! They’re wacky, have cool gadgets and can hold their own with any class. All the kits mean only ele has more weapon options.
Rolling an ele as my third toon, yes they are op but it doesn’t help that staff ele is not viable 1v1 or in small groups.
