I routinely hit for 23-25k in dungeosn with 100b.

Today I was surprised with a 13+k critical hit in wvw with the rifle’s kill shot. Didn’t really have all that much might on either. Was just playing around with the rifle when I got bored and floored someone firing down on us from a wall.

whats the point in knock back? you as a warrior want the enemy standing right by your side. you want a pull, you want a knock down.

knock back is extremly situational (just for kicking someone off a cliff…).

I agree. Warriors are screaming for a pull, not a knockback. Dont know why they dont have one.

Respectfully disagree. So much of my build and tactics rest on how good warrior cripples are. In fact, the only true aoe abilities we have are cripples.

If the OP is referring to the facing modifier, my engineer has the exact same issue. It kitten es me off to, but I always thought it was a profession wide issue.

Not to mention you can turn your cripples into an immobilize, my fave trait on the warriors arsenal of anti easy mode.

Ah the swiftness issue. Yes this was one of the first (of many) hurdles I discovered about the warrior class. As other have mentioned, signt of rage (elite), coupled with warhorn and signet cooldown will grant you swiftness almost all the time. That is conditional on using a warhorn in your offhand.

Conversly, say you do not want to run a warhorn (suffice it to say, signet of rage is a must) but still need the swiftness. Adept trait furious speed in arms gives you 10% chance to gain swiftness on critical hits. Doesn’t seem like much, but remember you’re most likely going for a crit heavy build, so you’ll proc it more than you think.

Then there are the weapon skills. GS #5 (rush) will take you 1200 distance. I use it mostly to disengage for example. GS #3 whirlwind attack will move you only 450 but traited with mobile strikes in the discipline tree, well let’s just say it will save your life (and leave a parting gift for anyone in your path). A quick 3 when imobolized followed by a 5 and you are covering some nice distance.

Sword #2 (savage leap) also breaks imobolize, and is a great gap closer or disengager (is that a word?). Even the hammer’s burst ability (earthshaker) is something that can get you out of (or most likely in to) trouble.

That said, you’re in for a shock when it comes to mobility. Warriors have limited utility skills which grant swiftness, so you will have to learn how to use your weapon skills to compensate for the rest. Lot’s time is spent thinking over how to best get your enemies to you so you can drop your heavy dps abilities on them. Night and day from your thief. Warriors dont have the ability to start or end a fight on a whim like a thief does.

May I suggest (if its combat you’re focusing on and not just moving around the world) that you seriously look into the adept tactics trait ‘leg specialist’ which applies an imobolize on any enemies you cripple. As warriors have tons of cripples, often times using these skills consecutively not only means your enemies usually pop their stunbreakers, but that you yourself don’t actually have to be so mobile since you’re gaining speed by slowing down your enemies not by actually moving faster yourself.

The scary thing is that in the SoTG, anet mentioned only buffing the mesmer. Insane. I dont think they’re at all aware of whats going on in pvp. They’re killing it. No rewards like WvW and PVE, and a mesmer and thief fest.

It will be dead by the end of the year like this.

It’s not a discussion whether thief is op or not. Can’t deny there’s a kittenload of thieves and mesmers in hotjoins though.

No they are not. My god some top teams (the few that are left) dont even run thiefs. And mesmers while more common and useful are hardly OP , ESPECIALLY 1on1. Most mesmers spec with illllusion of life, portal and timewarp for tournies, so 3 out of the 4 utilities are for group fights making them average at 1on1 at best. (assuming vs equally skilled player).
If the mesmer speced more for 1on1 his overall contribution would drop enough that youd be better off bringing a ranger or something else.

Im sorry you have trouble with these classes, but dont speak for all of us ( i main engy).
I wonder, do you do alot of tournies or mostly hotjoin?

My god really some of the top teams leave out thieves?! Holy smokes that’s crazy!

But seriously…

The fact is you can see the tumbleweed rolling around in the heart of the mists and I betcha one of the reasons for this is the mechanics of thieves and mesmers. Give it alittle longer and no one will play pvp at all but you tourney elitists. I hope it’ll be worth it to you in the end when this game mode dies completely (its almost there).

But…L2P and all that good stuff. Funny how 90% of the people espousing that sentiment in here roll mesmers or thieves, while the other 10% are our resident tournament grandmasters (who incidentally I’m sure have something to say about Eles…l2p bro, l2p).

IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE BURST, LEARN TO DODGE.
If you don’t know how to dodge properly you deserve to have a hard time. If there was no dodging in this game it would be completely different, but there is, so it isn’t.

Whoa there partner. Thieves are the only class which can spam their highest dps attacks more than once every so often. There are only 2 dodges. You’re angry post has a problem of economy here do you see it?

As for me, either Anet will fix this problem, or pvp will die on the vine in this game. There are simply 2 classes which dominate the landscape (yes hotjoin, what the majority of people are playing…dont act all elitist as tournament games are ghost towns moreso than hotjoin).

People can defend decisions till their blue in the face, it wont change the fact that mesmers and thieves are horribly balanced vis a vis other classes in pvp.

Ok so sometimes whether we like it or not, we have to get out of dodge. An issue I have is that rush (greatsword #5 skill) doesn’t work like I want it to. I de-select a target, and try to rush out of the situation but I’d say 80% of the time I simply rush into the target or targets I’m fleeing.

Am I doing something wrong or is Rush not a viable escape mechanism is there are enemies on my flanks (which is many times where I end up rushing to)?

The whole point about real pvp, ie spvp and tpvp, is that everyone is balanced stat wise, so it comes down to who’s the better player.

First off, how’s player vs circle working out for the community? Healthy? Thriving?

Yeah…

Anyways, secondly with the way the mists work (I refuse to call it pvp when the objective is not killing players, but standing in circles harder than the other guy stands in a circle) everyone would still be balanced stat wise.

There would just be more stats to choose from to customize your build.

Basically it’d be like if you hit 80 for wvw and were immediately mailed 1 of every exotic armor and weapon available, stat wise, to customize your guy with. There’s no gear discrepency when everyone has that same exotic gear to work with.

Let me just hit you up with an FYI.

When the point is only to kill opposing players, that’s what we call deathmatch, i.e. the lowest most mindless form of versus you can get.

With objectives, it becomes more team vs team. Is PvP sick? Kinda. Could it use some tweaks? Sure. Is the solution to its problems making it into a solo WvW? No.

If you want deathmatch, then stay away.

I was thinking about this too, and we should be able to switch between manual targeting and locked targeting. Locked targeting makes a grenadier turn into complete garbage in wvw, but a godsend in pve, so I think it would be neat to be able to switch between both.

the other consideration in the calculations is the AoE dmg; bomb and ft are both AoE weapons, technically.

But since I am not a numbers guy, I put it to you, Seetoo, should the potential DPS of the FT#1+FT#2 be factored by their maximum number of targets (Bomb kit as well)?

I am not sold that more targets reduces sustained DPS though (i do agree it does less per target with more than 5 targets, but the overall sustained dps ought not be changing just because there are more targets). Since tests are meant to be controlled, isn’t FT1 3x whatever it does to a single dummy, and FT2 5x, since they can hit that many targets before losing any single target dps? Likewise, Bombkit/nadekit should have its DPS factored by up to 5 since a single bomb/volley can hit 5 targets for the same amount?

FT1 isnt a 3target hit skill, it hits 5 like normal aoe’s do rather than like a cleave attack.
Something else i really like about FT as well is the fact the FT1 keeps on doing dmg, theres a smaller ammount of “overdamage” so to speak. There’s more effective dmg than when you compare it to the grenades.

Let me explain this:

Lets say you are grinding an event with a mass ammount of mobs (lets say 30 are alive at once) and you throw in grenades. You throw them in waves, not continuesly. When the grenades land they do a set ammount of dmg all at once on a set ammount of targets. If some targets died in the progress all overdmg done to them was lost and you’re not dealing extra dmg to remaining targets till the next wave of nades.

Flamethrower is different. It’s more like a pulsing aoe. The dmg comes in 10 waves per attack (rather than the grenade’s 1 attack 1 wave). lets say some targets die in the middle of the flame jet then the remaining waves of the flamejet simply start hurting other targets, losing less effective dmg on said dead target and doing more effective dmg because it dynamically switches to live targets even during that 1 attack.

Nades don’t do that.
It’s a terrible thing trying to throw maths on but it’s a very important thing to note when comparing the 2.

Looking at the classes in the game, I think it takes a special kind of person to want to play Engineer. We’re the jack of all trades master of none. If you want crazy burst, play a warrior of thief. If you want healing and AOE, play a ele. If you want boons and survivability, take a guardian. If you want serious condition dmg and allies, a necro or ranger are a better bet.

If however you value having something to deal with almost every situation, then welcome to the engi class.

Hard to master, easy to enjoy.

The Warrior can have ‘Balanced Stance’ trigger automatically if they trait into Defence for Master Tier. We have our Elixir S at cheaper (Adept) but it triggers at 25% health.

I think if they had it work the same way as Balanced Stance does for the Warrior it would be much more useful.

But ya OP, a stunbreaker is a MUST (especially for sPvP).

Ok so with the new APU and Mobo, the game runs at high on ALL settings (except reflections and shadows, I will never play with those one). I average 70-90 FPS in PVE/PVP and zerging tonight for alittle in WvW, with most setting on low (kept the resolution) it runs 30-40 fps during zergfests. This is all I was looking for.

The lowest I say it was in the 20s. which is almost double what I was getting before. Its playable for sure. I can actually enjoy WvW.

Unfortunately, you brought a bad motherboard too. FM1 is already legacy due to the cutting edge nature of the first generation APU

Either upgrade or not play this game in WvW because Llano apus are slow

I have since installed a FM2 motherboard and a newer Trinity APU. I hope it works out! Fingers crossed I’m updating the game as we speak.

What’s done is done I suppose. Just a cursory try of the FT and EG show them to be actually useful now in PVP, so I suppose its not all bad. The pull-pry combo for the TK is a definite plus with 5 seconds of confusion. Actually its not bad at all. Follow that up with a net shot-blunderbuss-OCS-jumpshot is a mean combo.

Actually surprised with the dmg from the FT. Really surprised. And without spec-ing into any FT enhancements.

Might even give turrets a try….ok maybe not but still…

Engineer was supposed to be the class of a dozen different possible playstyles. We’re designed to be amongst the weakest (if not the…) in dmg output. But our toys give us the ability to change styles to suite the circumstances. This is why I’ve invested time in the class.

So these changes werent targeted at the 100 nades pullers??? lol ok sure! By all means let the 100 naders come and tell us how they’re finding things these days.

OP, your post might make sense if they did the same thing for other classes whose abilities in some respects are completely off the wall in terms of balance. As it stands, since they’ve done NOTHING about it, your thesis doesn’t hold water.

If they were targeting a specific issue (100 nades – I never used it, but God forbid the engineer has something to contend with the 2 fest of the thief or 100 blades), they have punished some of us who valued diversity rather than cheap no brain builds.

I’d just love for once is the devs had the balls to man up and explain their reasoning behind things.

I think the Engineer is an inside joke on us idiots who seem to be wasting our time with it. Anet wants us to play how they think we should play. If they want me to be an elixir Engi just come out and say it.

For all the wrong reasons….

About the only utility to myself and my team I have carved out in PVP has been from the ability to tactically change kits depending on the situation. Seeing as how we’re limited to 1 weapon set, kits were my lifeline.

Now I’m next to useless. Instead of looking at the highest played classes in PVP and asking “why are the majority of people running Thief/Mesmer/Ele builds”, they have by and large left them and some of their BLATANTLY OP abilities alone and offered the Engineer some token (largely useless) buffs while CRIPPLING those few of us who relied on kits to stay alive and help the team.

Why? Why have they done this? Were the 5% of us who play Engineer that distracting to them? Or is it the 100 nades people who screwed this up?

Keep your buffs and please give me back my ability to swap kits. If this is the faustian bargain I need to make with you in order to receive even these meager buffs, then say keep them and I will take my chances as I was before.

Someone please explain to me – if its true – why Anet would optimize the game for a 360 port when the 360’s life is almost coming to an end? Did they seriously believe that there would be a market for an MMO on a console (which to my knowledge there has never been) especially one whose replacement is so near? Why? Speaking as an avid 360 player, thats just crazy. And is this the reason the game performs so poorly for many people in large encounters?
