i’m completely open to hearing any logical reasons people have to oppose dueling
I doubt many people have any objection to you going to an arena to duel. Why do you feel the need to do it elsewhere? Because you want to? An arena gives everyone what they want, except for the weenie wavers who want to do it in the middle of Lion’s Arch and don’t give a rat’s kitten who objects.
Because it’s okay for him to kick and scream for his wants, but when we try to compromise, we’re being selfish. /eyeroll
Look at the majority of the posts from people who are for dueling. That’s the mindset I was talking about. I hate that.
" Shut up! You irritate me!!! You’re selfish!!!" All because those of us against dueling are expressing our opinions and concerns.
lol the irony.
there are extremely annoying people who are in favor of dueling but that doesn’t even begin to take away from our stance
im completely open to hearing any concerns with dueling that don’t fall into the “i don’t want to see it” or the “i don’t want to be spammed with requests” categories.
i’m completely open to hearing any logical reasons people have to oppose dueling
The same reason why people don’t want dps meters and mods like that. It caters to a certain type a player that festers in the community like a slow cancer.

I’m a player, and I don’t want dueling.
I hate being asked to duel. Even when you turn off dueling requests people still jump around you calling you names because you’re “afraid” to duel them. The whole mindset duelers just really bugs me.
Although I think ANet could set up like cages or rings in major cities for players to fight in. Those who want to duel can enter, and people like me are not constantly being harassed in the open world to duel. Everybody wins.
No.
You know who has the highest ranks? The best zerglings.
High rank tells little about their skill or their tactical knowledge, it only tells how good they are at WXP farming in a zerg. And it also demonstrates their low willingness to do the necessary work that provides no WXP (yak escorting, supply running, scouting, trebbing)and the guy above, again, if you were a pve’er, perhaps you wouldn’t be qualified to be leading pvp?
Did I say anything about leading? I said pve’rs don’t feel welcome to play wvw at all because of people like you. You made a post suggesting that Higher ranks should get priority to join wvw. I’m telling you that sooner or later you wont have anyone to play with because your mindset will have driven off new players. The ‘experienced’ ones wont be around forever. People grow, change and leave games all the time. Who do you think is going to fill their shoes? No one if you keep this garbage up.
No. This is a terrible idea.
As a pve player, I just want to say something to those of you who love WvW but are struggling to get your server to play… it’s people like the OP that make us not want to join because we feel unwelcome.
Please remember that you were new to WvW once, and if you continue this elitist mindset pretty soon you won’t have ANYONE to play with you.
No one is saying you’re a bad player, we’re saying you need to learn to play. Everyone does when they pick up a new game.
You’re pointing fingers at guild wars 2 and saying it’s learning curve is too steep and we’re telling you that we don’t think it is at all. Honestly if you think low levels are bad I feel sorry for you when you get to cursed shore.
Bottom line is: You can’t stand still on a thief and take hits to the face. You just can’t. Maybe thief isn’t for you.
Edit:
As far as inconsistencies within the classes.. I think it’s a good thing. It’s creates a diverse leveling experience which is great for the replay value. Why the heck would anyone want to level the same class over and over again? It’s boring!
In GW2 the classes all have unique identities and areas they shine in. The thief does not take a hit well, which is why you have SO many evasive abilities. A lot of those are tied to weapons which can be used at level 1.

I hate to make a ‘L2P’ post but ..
It sounds like you need to just get used to the game and the way it plays. Utilize your dodge when you see the enemy queuing up an attack. Each type of mob has 1 or 2 heavy hitters that have tells so you can always dodge them.
Try different wepon combinations, one raged and one melee. Or one offensive and one defensive. For example mesmer staff is an excellent leveling option because it has so many defensive abilities. Couple that with your favorite offensive weapons (sword/sword/focus/great sword/pistol/scepter) and the mesmer can be a breeze to level with. I had the most success on my theif leveling with a shortbow when handling more than 1 mob, but everyone’s different.
Pay special attention to what your attacks do. A lot of them combo with others (even from different weapons) to give you powerful boons. Some even have built in evades or a way for you to become immune to all dmg for a couple seconds. Once you learn to time these spells right you realize just how easy this game is.
Ok, so I totally misread what the frost dye kit was and i expected to 6 new ones. LOL.
Yay just spent 5.70g on summer sky dye FML.
All these threads do is encourage people to spout a bunch of sexist nonsensical statements and ridiculous generalizations about the opposite sex.
“90 percent of females only play cause their boyfriends do”
“Girls like gw2 because it’s cutesy”
Enough with this.
People play GW2 because it’s a kitten good game, and it suits their gaming needs. That’s all. We’re all people who like gaming and our sex shouldn’t be brought into the equation at all because it’s irrelevant. The sooner we realize this the better.
I really want mounts. This game doesn’t really feel like it needs them, but I really miss collecting them. Collecting mounts is usually my ‘endgame’ so I’m a bit bored now since this game has none. =/
This game does need alot more customization! There is a disturbing lack of options in the gem store to buy. When I heard gw2 was going the f2p cash shop option, I figured the shop would be packed with new things to buy every week, inlcuding gowns, faces, hair colors and styles. I’m very disappointed with it.
When you block someone they can still see if you’re online via their friends list. It tells them what toon you’re on and where you are in the world. This needs to be corrected as well.
Lol yeah just saw that
I feel that privacy is very important in large communities like this one, and I have recently learned how little of it we actually get in Guild Wars 2.
-People can add you to friends without your knowledge or permission and see everything about you.
-If you block someone, they can still see if you’re online, (via their friends list) which character you’re on and where you are in the world.
- There is currently no option to sign in invisible. As soon as you hit the character select screen, everyone following you is notified that you’ve opened the game.
- When you appear offline, people can still see your locations.
Bottom-line is that it is far too easy to track someone in this game. I feel that the following needs to be corrected immediately:.
1. There should be a way to log in invisible. And when you’re invisible, your location should not update!
2. No one should see your account name unless you add them to friends.
3. When someone wants to add you to friends, you should have to approve it.
4. When you block someone…they should see you as offline. Always. They should have no information about you ever again unless you unblock them.
Anet, I’m begging you to please do something about these major privacy issues.
Thanks for reading guys, let me know if I missed anything.
This is one of the main reasons I refuse to create anything but humans. There are like next to no customization options for the other races.
+1
Okay, I’m having loads of fun with pistol / shield and rifle turret.
It works well right now at low levels so I’m just gonna use it! !!!
Thanks for all your help guys, I’ll figure it out as I level. :P
Too fun to bench this lil gal.
WTH! I just took this long to respond to a necro post? Grr…
Don’t feel bad, I was debating between these 2 classes and you helped me
Thinking I’ll bench the engi..
If I’m reading these suggestions correctly, seems I can’t play with the weapons I want whats the point.
Thanks for all the advice you guys

As far a I’m concerned ANet really dropped the ball with town clothes. There is not near enough pieces to create unique looks, and none of them are even remotely interesting.
I think they should have a team permanently working on adding town clothes and armor skins (and new hairstyles!) in every single patch. I mean, this is a company who has decided to go the cash shop route, yet I have no reason to buy gems. Put some items in that my toon can wear that i need to have RIGHT NOW. Items that will make me whip out my credit card.
Hint: Riding pants and chef costumes wont do it.
As far as how they are acquired, I don’t mind if they are exclusively sold in the gem store, but I feel like it’s a missed opportunity they aren’t dropped in dungeons or anything. I’ve always felt like exclusive town clothes should have low drop rates (not as low as precursors omg) off dungeon bosses and things like that. Give us a REASON to redo content. Or perhaps create raid like content that drops exclusive armor skins.
ANet, you wanted this game to be about aesthetics instead of stat progression… GIVE US SOME SKINS.
(edited by Snow White.9680)
Because the other races have very little (good) customization and that is a big turn off for me.
There’s been a lot of talk about the game having no progression or drive after 80
… I guess this is their attempt at creating some?
I can’t think of any other reason.. the whole thing seems silly to me.
I wish female humans had a messy bun hairstyle.
I wish the npc town clothes were in the gem store.
I wish I could dye / tint my weapons.
I wish legendaries were account bound.
I wish there were more armor skins.
I wish this game had horses.
I wish this game had raid-like content ..ANet style that dropped really exclusive nice town clothes and armor skins, maybe mini pets, and definitely hair contracts and other fun, rare items.
Server forums would be nice.
Thank you so much
dungeons, questing, events, dragons
Yeah, i just love shield pistol… is there a build i can work around that combo that is viable?
Hi there!
I just rolled my very first engineer!
I main a Mesmer and I wanted something different.
I really am loving the pistol and shield combo, but I really hate using kits.
Anyway my question is:
Can I viably play my engi using primarily weapons? I really really don’t like the grenade kit and stuff that swaps out my weapons. What would be a good option for someone like me who would rather not use kits at all?
Oh, I forgot to mention I only play pve content like dungeons, dragons, questing etc.
(edited by Snow White.9680)
well most of your suggestions to most people opposing them would bring lots of difficulty.
If a person starts invisible, even if you know that they’re online you can’t whisper them. Their mail can be full. Maybe they would forget to the invisibility off and contacting them for dungeons and stuff would get really difficult.
Difficulty for who? People trying to contact someone appearing offline? Yeah that’s kind of the idea.
If I’m appearing offline, I don’t want to be contacted at all.
We use the friends list to check for bots and to report bots. Some monitor their friends via friends list and catch hackers that took your friends account.
While I find it admirable you’re so proactive about catching bots, it’s not really your job to monitor accounts, and it’s most certainly not worth the expense of player privacy.

First of all why do have people to be physically endangered in real live to get something done? oO It can be as unpleasant if someone in the game is following someone around. And while this is not endangering someone in real live it can lower his/her enjoyment in the game and I don’t see why that should be necessary.
Second why do have people have to defend their wish to decide themselves which information they show to someone?
They really don’t. Honestly I don’t even respond to the posters demanding justification when all I’m asking for are basic privacy functions that most MMORPGs already have in place. It’s really appalling actually that so many people are upset by the request for privacy.
Implementing 3 would be a negative on the game. As it will be harder to contact people. For example if I want to catch a certain guild leader on another server when they are online its easier to add them to my friends list and pop them a pm when they get online. I’m not stalking them, just getting in contact. And as a guild leader myself and an officer in another guild I need to be contacted over all sorts of things, and for people to contact me its easier if they know I’m online or not before they try to send a message. All #3 does is impede these operations for no good reason, as your 4th suggestion would solve that problem.
They can always send you a mail.
Thanks for the thumbs up everyone. I really appreciate all the helpful (and even the not so nice) comments.
I feel that privacy is very important in large communities like this one, and I have only recently learned how little of it we get in Guild Wars 2. Honestly it’s getting to the point where I’m having a hard time enjoying myself in game knowing I’m so exposed.
I know it sounds silly to some of you, and I don’t expect everyone to understand but it’s very real for me, and many others.
I really hope ANet will give us more privacy options.
Most people asking in chat are likely just zoning in and are trying to catch events that may already be happening and may already have been announced before they zoned. They aren’t doing it to annoy you.
Most people don’t want to wonder around waiting for events to pop. So they ask. We’re looking to get our daily done ASAP so we can log off, or get to the fun stuff.
Luckily on my server everyone is really helpful ..almost competitively so .. (“too many resers!”) and when someone asks about an event, 3-4 ppl post WPs right away.
You people are overly dramatic and ridiculous. Don’t go around being rude to everyone, and you won’t have to worry about anyone “stalking” you, as you put it.
I’ve got well over 1300 hours in this, and I’ve yet to have someone watching me, and the second I come online send me a mail and harass me.
Why would I want to log in “offline”? I’m online, get over it.
Actually, I’ve very helpful and nice to people online.
I have over 30 followers and I find the whole concept really creepy.
I have had people mail me asking why I’m appearing offline.
If I block these people, they can still see I’m online. They can travel to my server and location and find me.
It’s not unreasonable to want a blocked person to see you as offline with no information showing. It hurts no one. It only protects.
And considering they already have the appear offline option in game, I wouldn’t say it’s unreasonable to ask them to tweak it a tiny bit so that you can log in offline.
Right now, It only hurts peoples feelings when they see you log on, and then quickly off again.
(edited by Snow White.9680)
You are correct, they cannot contact you if they are blocked, but they still have access to all your information and can chose to find you and follow you around.
Yes, this happens.
I think it would be alot better if you just appeared offline to someone you block.
(edited by Snow White.9680)
You can also invite people to a guild when they’re offline, allowing you to see other information such as what server they’re on. (the friends list only shows what zone they’re in)
Wow, thats crazy too!
You can actually set your status to Invisible without logging in to a character.
You can access your contact list from the character selection screen and from there you can change your status.
Correct, you can.
But the moment you log into your character select screen you appear online in game and people can start whispering you immediately. No matter how fast you are about switching to offline they still see it. Trust me, I know.
It is FAR too easy to stalk someone in this game.
-People can add you to friends without your knowledge or permission and see everything about you.
- Even if you BLOCK someone, they can still see if you’re online, (via their friendslist) what toon you’re on and where you are in the world.
- There is no option to sign in invisible. So if an unstable person has friended you, and sees you log in and then quickly switch to offline. They start sending you in-game mail calling you out.
- If you appear offline, people can still watch you and see if you move locations.
All this stuff needs to be corrected!
I propose:
1. There should be a way to LOG IN invisible. And when you’re invisible, your location should NOT update!!!!!
2. No one should see your account name until you add them to friends. They party userface kind creeps me out.
3. When someone wants to add you to friends, IT SHOULD ASK YOUR PERMISSION before they are allowed to see your account name and every toon you log on.
4. When you block someone…they should see you as offline. Always. They should have NO information about you ever again until you unblock them. Not even what server you’re on.
Anet, I’m begging you to please do something about these major privacy issues.
Thanks for reading guys, let me know if i missed anything.

That was amazing. Nice work! !!!!
You’re a great mesmer!
Considering mesmers already have 2 ranged twohanders (Staff, greatsword)
Wait…people use the staff at range?
Greatsword seemed like a weird concept to me on a caster but, dude its awesome on mesmer.
I think longbow on a mesmer would be really cool! !
I’ve talked to 2 devs about it already, lol.
More hairstyles for everyone:
What I’d like to see:
Human female- messy bun, simple pony tail.
Sylvari female –
Vine braids, bed of tiny flower for hair, mossy hair, spout like hair, mushroom cap Princess Leah buns, and a simple vine-like long flowing style.
Mesmer.
There is no other class in this game as far as I’m concerned.
1. If you can’t decide on which legendary to get, start with the generic steps that all legendaries require. Things like map completion, 500 badges of honor, clovers, t6 mats 1.1 mil karma etc.
2. 2-3 days of farming? For what exactly? Just to get my t6 mats, a friend and I farmed moldy bags in orr pent camp (before the nerf) for 2-3 weeks straight and he gave me all his mats he collected. Together we made 700g (the cost of the precursor) and the required amount of t6 mats for the gift of fortune.
3. I’m not really sure what you’re asking here.
I will say that making Bifrost (or any legendary) took months of hard work.
If you’re expecting it to take days, you better be prepared to whip out the credit card.
Ohhh
Faux pas (Like paw) tehehehee
Very cool Idea! I shall claim this spot for when my guild opens up missions in a couple weeks.
Faux Bow
XD
Please allow mesmers to wield longbows at some point.
Man that would be siiiiiiiick!!!!
Either that or make a bow wielding class that isn’t uber lame!
MESMERS NEED BOWS
Sincerely, me.
Win what exactly?
These forums are for people to express their opinions/concerns/ideas.
No one is whining. We’re talking.
Game Over
I would like new additions to the world of tyria. This content is cute but I’d prefer to play new content on my mesmer …. not a mario / zelda knock off which takes all my abilities away.
Can you explain that to me like I’m 5 years old? lol
