It doesn’t make sense because you said that you need a full team for Team Arena, which is plain wrong.

Actually it was always possible to queue with any number of players for sPvP, hence the OP’s statement “i quit because my friend and I couldn’t queue up as a duo for spvp.” is wrong as well ;-)

Two or three days ago I queued with two others (2x Warrior and me as Ele, 93-97% rating).
We faced 2+3 teams as well as full premades and had no leavers or afkers on either side.
In the end we won 7 or 8 matches.

So is it possible? Yes.
Can is make fun? Loads of it.
Can it be frustrating? If you are unlucky or not yet in the rating corresponding to your skill, yes. But that’s inherent to every PvP game.

What would the removal of the confirmation pop-up change about the AFKers?

Imo there’s a better way to prevent one kind of afk behavior:
Make the GW2 icon on the task bar blink when you’ve found a game, so you can react timely when being on the desktop. DotA2 does that and it helps a lot when the queues get a little longer – a lot of people start to tab out of the game then.

Pretty much all official gaming forums do also not allow calling out other players. That’s what report forms are for. I’m quite baffled that ANet has not yet deleted or at least closed this thread.

Don’t get me wrong: I am very opposed to both syncing and using VoIP tools in the solo queue, but threads as this one are just inappropriate.

Rank shows time investment in PvP, including Hotjoins. That does not necessarily relate to experience in competitive PvP.

Saying that the matchmaking should consider ranks and not the rating of each player is quite dull, tbh. The matchup in your example could potentially lead to a close game.

Hi,

after understanding what the number aside the green/red arrow in the tooltip actually refers to (amount of risen/dropped places since the last update), I finally found out what it means when the number is the same as your rank when in conjunction with a red arrow:
It’s a new entry on the leaderboard that dropped from rank 0 to the current rank.

That’s not very intuitive, though.
Suggestion: The grey arrow is being displayed without a number while the tooltip states something along the lines of “new entry”.

“Stopping 2-3 friends from being on the same side” is exactly what has to be done in a solo ladder… which does not mean that they’re not able to play with each other. Ever heard of Team Arena?

That’s easier said than done. To implement such a thing, the character selection screen would have to know which professions are in your sPvP group – in real time. Along with several factors you have to consider, for example locking the prof as soon as the “Play” button is clicked and notifying the other clients to prevent “sync switching”.

But the most important question is: Would preventing 3+ players of a prof actually benefit the game? I doubt it.
I’m not even sure if you think that this is an advantage or disadvantage for the team?
Do you think that “stacking an OP prof = unbeatable comp”? I’d disagree… such a team is potentially easier to counter than a mixed team, e.g. with a lot of condi cleanse if playing against a necro team.

To be able to change anything about this, ANet would have to hinder players from changing professions before the game starts.
But that would kitten of a larger playerbase than the current implementation I’d guess.

I was talking about soloQ, where the team comps are not totally random as there are quite a lot of players who switch out their profession depending on the team.

It was also meant as a response to Eurantien’s post, which suggested that you have to play one of the three classes that are currently viewed as the best to be able to get a high placement.

well, ever since I had 6-1 I started getting total morons in my team, resulting in 6-7 right now so yeah…

5-1, 6-1 maybe if you are pushing your luck extremely well 7-1. There is no way in hell people go 10-1 without sync.

That’s bullkitten… I ended my matches yesterday with 10-1 and was definitely not syncing.
I also had a lot of different team members, even though I queued right after a match ended. The queue time was 5-7 minutes after the first couple of matches, so I’d say that the game does not put the first 10 players into a match, as some people claim. Both teammates and enemies could be found on the higher ranks of the leaderboard.
Conclusion: The matchmaking works fine for me. Of course there is often some luck involved, but isn’t that natural?

Well, the top 10 players are rangers, necros, engis. The three specs atm that can 1 v 1, bunker for a bit if needed, and support team fights. That being said the top 25 players are also good players that also run things like, ele, thief, guardian. Teams that end up with 2 or 3 thieves and warriors against a team of 2 necros, a ranger, an engi, and a guard are gonna have a harder time because they can’t fill the rolls that need to be filled.

Well, after my 11 games yesterday – exclusively played as ele – I was ranked at place 2 when I first appeared on the leaderboard (with a red downside-arrow in the first column, which seems weird to me, as I expected a gray line… so internally I was 1st for a short time? Hooray, I guess ^^). My only lose was with a team where two players constantly whined about the absolute uselessness of eles (we had 2 – the game before was won with 3 eles on the team). Play more & QQ less I guess.
Phantaram (currently rank 4) also played Ele in a match with me, though I don’t know if that was his only profession in the 16 games so far.

That doesn’t really mean a lot with the low number of matches, but at least it shows that the balance isn’t as far off as a lot of people here claim it to be. Winning duels vs. Spirit Rangers and Engis was absolutely possible. CC warriors were a much harder matchup for me. Necro dmg seemed a little over the top though, even with my build that has lots of condition cleanse.

I was experiencing the same after a couple of Foefire matches this evening… after every respawn, the loading screen took 5-10 seconds for me instead of the usual <1 second.

The introduction of soloQ will not remove the standard teamQ. I expect that you can still queue with 2/3 man teams, but the wait times will propably be longer.
Queueing with 4 players might be useless, though, as you’ll need a solo player that entered the teamQ – which should still be possible, but who wants to do that? ;-)

Hey there,

I recently solo queued for a tournament match and went into a non-ranked game to test spectator mode right afterwards, because pre-patch you would get the invite box everywhere.

This time, after wondering about the long matchmaking, I left the game and were then directly ported into the running tournament match… not good ;-)

Either allow the popup to appear everywhere or prevent players from joining other matches when they are in a queue. The first is preferred, of course.

I can confirm this, the counters for “Daily Matches Played” and “Daily Tournament Matches Won” did not increase after 3 tournament wins, thus the PvP Daily is not achievable.

Yes 90% is very high but not quite leader-board. I believe leaderboards is anything above 90% because I haven’t heard of anyone get above 90% but I have heard of some at 90% hit leaderboards after 1 win.

That seems to be the case. When filtering by world in the Achievements tab, you can see the percentile of players that are not in the top 1000.
At the 1k mark you can currently see this for my world:
991 Renegade.1694 6358 Kodash [DE]
90% Reema.7360 6353 Kodash [DE]

The percentile also seems to be a very rough estimate, as people with APs of ~4700 have 90%, as well. I guess it moves in 5% steps.

Yes, and 75% would mean that 25% of the ranked players are “better” than you (but mixing teams and solo queuers makes evaluating individual players nigh impossible).
I don’t know if that is including the top 1000 or not, though.

The items of the new “Match Win Chest” from 2-team tournaments can randomly be salvaged into both free and paid tournament tokens. I don’t really remember the chances, but it seems likely that paid tokens are rarer.

According to the leaderboard FAQ, the losses from left games do not show up until you complete a match again. This could explain the behaviour of the statistics and should be fairly easy to confirm.

This idea is not new, and a designer already responded to it: He said that they won’t do this for balance reasons.
And I kind of agree… with this change the extreme bunker/burst/condition builds would go out of hand.
I’d actually prefer quite the opposite – less variety in stat allocations so that traits become the major individualisation factor. That would only work if most traits were viable in PvP, of course.
