I guess it would be logical that upon completing the monthly alone you should be able to buy at least one ascended gear. I mean a month’s work worth at least one right?

That’s correct Healing Signet heals me for 268 per tick, and the extra 58hp/sec doesn’t seem much but with adrenal health+regen+food it does add up to give a really strong health regen (also Healing Surge is a lot better without Healing Power, but for a regen build Signet seems the obvious choice). Going full cleric is obviously not the best choice for a warrior, going berserk/knight with omnom pies triumphs it in nearly all aspects.

Still it’s there, and it is somewhat effective (more so then most warriors think). You can clear conditions with shouts if you go soldier runes or even better grab a warhorn get quick breathing and convert conditions into boons. Perma regen is great too, not to mention swiftness (though it has more uses outside PvE).

I won’t elaborate further, if you’re up for it give it a go, I’ve been running a build like this and while it’s certainly lacks damage, it’s nice for a change and not useless

Edit: I think you can get around 1950ish Healing Power if you go only for that

signet and banner regeneration doesn’t stack. Regeneration from signet is the same regeneration but without visible boon (So with adrenal health, signet and regeneration you still can have only 2 HoT effects)

That’s not correct, they do stack. With 1806 Healing Power (+ mango pies) I can achieve a 2.5k hp regen every 3 sec. Still if you’re going for self regen goodness, you’re better off with omnomberry pies. Going full cleric’s is about supporting teammates, with boons and healing. Regeneration ticks for 356, which is awesome, and if you take banner of tactics you get a heal skill too (heals around 1k), and if you use runes of altruism you can grant fury+might after your healing skill to teammates or with water runes you can heal them for around 1.6k. Healing signet is a good choice, since with high healing power the passive becomes quite strong and due to low cooldown it is the most spammable for these extra effects

Tanky support or Glass Cannon?

in Warrior

Soeki.9643

For support:

1) Shield: CC, tanky style, I really like it, so if you plan on taking hits bring it. It works well with mace for even more cc and tanking goodness

2) Warhorn: It’s pure support weapon, mostly useful if you get the quick breathing trait for it, so you can convert one condition into a boon with both skills

3) GS: There are some really nice GS builds with 30 points in tactics to get either healing shouts or banners, but still do heavy damage. Probably the best for you if you wanna be supportative and quite good dps too

Also, I guess you are going to PvE mostly, am I right?

Which Armor/Jewelry?

in Warrior

Posted by: Soeki.9643

Soeki.9643

Yes Healing Power increase it’s effectiveness. About S/S condition build. Issue with it is conditions damage < direct damage. Not to mention that if there is another bleed stacker in group your dps will be even lower.

So if you want awesome damage, you’re better off with either GS or axe/axe or the now very popular axe/mace. Start with knight gear till you’re comfortable with it, then go to full berserk. Also get omnomberry pies, they are the means to become godlike in knight/berserker gear. Hope this helps.

Edit: I believe Anet will eventually balance condition damage so it will be on paar with direct damage but for now you’re better of with the latter.

Tanky support or Glass Cannon?

in Warrior

Posted by: Soeki.9643

Soeki.9643

I’ll try to break it down for you

So:
1) Banners support: You’ll have constant regeneration, the regen boon will on your party the whole time which is quite awesome, and coupled with some healing power gear (cleric’s or shaman’s), healing signet and adrenal health trait, you’ll have a really strong healing per second on you. My “field medic” build is built around it and heals for 744hp per second (or 832 with mango pies).

2) Shout support: Good thing about shouts is that they are low on cooldown, do all sort of awesome things (FGJ + SIO is a must for any shout build) and with healing shouts you can burst heal yourself and teammates. Not to mention that with soldier runes all your shouts will remove one condition (SIO will remove 2 with them)

3) Glass cannon: As the name suggest it can be quite easy to die with glassy spec, that’s why many people run with knight’s gear (Pow/Pre/Tough) which offers excellent protection and great damage. Once you’re comfortable with your setup, you can change over to berserker’s gear (which means a huge decrease in defense, but also a great increase in damage), especially if there is 1 or 2 ppl running support builds. Also omnomberry pies, you’re bread and butter for glass cannon builds they can make you godlike with it’s 66% chance to heal you on critical hits.

One more thing: Most people will expect you to deal heavy damage, since that is our strongest point. However if support seems more appealing to you go for it, it works really well too

Tankiest Warrior

Soeki.9643

It’s a bit blurry to me, what your exact goal is. By becoming "tankier" you want to take more hits, want to live longer, want to have more hitpoints or something else? There’s many way to achieve these, but at the end of the day you gonna sacrifice so much for a bit better defense that it’s definitely not worth it.

For example: You took 5% power converted to vitality. With your gear your power should be around 2k which means 100 vitality, an extra 1k hp which is not so much. Not to mention your healing doesn’t scale with vitality, making even the strongest heal (Healing Surge) healing around 25% of your hp. Having berserker’s power instead which adds an extra 12% damage is a lot better choice in my opinion since what your build lacks is damage, and this increase will help your party or even yourself to finish encounters faster (and probably get hit less, since the enemy died faster).

I ran a tank build for a very long time, with full Pow/Vit/Tough gear with Soldier runes, to remove conditions, soldier jewelry, with soldier crest. I used Mace+Shield\Longbow, and it worked pretty well. I was really hard to bring down, but at the same time I had a moderate damage (mace trait +10% weakness trait +5% berserker power +12%) also used sharpening stones which add power based on your tougness+vitality which a perfect match for your gear.

But here’s the catch: The day I’ve found out that omnomberry pies exist everything changed. With the proper setup, you are harder to kill than a tank and deal a lot more damage. So if you want to live long go for it. But if you like seeing that you got lots of hp and armor, and the enemy slowly chips away your health stick the tank build, but I’d advise to go into a bit more damage oriented direction, since it helps a lot more and hardly hurts your tanking capabilities.

@Caedmon
Dolyak is terrible (regen is 30hp per sec) if you want runes with toughness as main stat you might want to try Melandru (reduces stun and condition duration) which can be quite useful in WvW

That entirely depends on what role I want to fulfill, but some skills like Shake It Off and For Great Justice always find a place on my skillbar. For heals I either go with Healing Signet if run with my field medic spec/gear, for extra regen and quicker AoE heal with rune of water or Healing Surge, which is probably our strongest healing skill. Elite is either Warbanner (if running banner spec) or Signet of Rage.

I might also want to add, that with GS you can probably deal more damage, I use dual axes since it fits my playstyle better, also more combo finishers, and an awesome burst skill (unlike GS’s Arcing Slice). But the damage difference is not huge, so if you prefer axes too go for them
I hope this helps.

Gear wise I pretty much agree with phantomFury. About skills: I use 2 shouts, SIO and FGJ, along with soldier runes (better survivability plus shouts remove conditions, which is a good way to support yourself and your team) and SoS for more frequent dodges. Elite is SoR and heal is HS. You shouldn’t have much trouble with this build and don’t forget to use Omnomberry pies, they make you godlike (especially with Knight’s gear added toughness)

So, is the a point in 2xAxe when GS exists?

in Warrior

Posted by: Soeki.9643

Soeki.9643

Don’t forget the combo finishers: GS got 2 (1 whirl, 1 projectile) while A/A got 4 (2 whirl, 1 projectile, 1 leap). Not much else to add, pretty much everything was said before. I think the damage difference is not that huge, so if you prefer axes over GS go for them. If not play with GS, both deal lovely damage

Reworking Warrior Stances

Soeki.9643

I’m all for to rework stances, and adding adrenaline as a factor is a neat idea. However those cooldowns are totally off. 15 sec for frenzy is way too short. Warriors could pop it up multiple times in a fight, and would deal really insane dps (and they already got it no need to buff it further). Same with endure pain, I think 90 sec is alright for 5 sec invulnerability.

Maybe instead of cooldowns the duration or effect of the skills should be changed. Like frenzy: 1 bar: 3sec, 2 bar: 4 sec, 3 bar: 6 sec. It would require serious testing to see how it would work out, but neat idea nonetheless

Making Magic Find Useful

in Suggestions

Posted by: Soeki.9643

Soeki.9643

The basis behind this argument is that “magic find slows down runs,” which is true, but not by a noticeable margin. At the end of the run I’d rather be GOLDS richer than shave an extra few minutes off a run, and it quite literally is a “few.”

And that is exactly why it is a selfish stat. You sacrifice combat effectiveness (in a party, party effectiveness) for personal gain. It’s a terrible stat that should have never been implemented, it even contradicts their manifesto. I think it should be either shared in a party or make it useless in dungeons so people go to dungeons in their most effective gear and thus contribute as much as they can. And to quote myself:
MF gear players contribute less to the success of the group but get more/better rewards in return (regardless of skill level). Now that is why it’s a broken mechanic

axe/axe builds in explorables?

in Warrior

Posted by: Soeki.9643

Soeki.9643

I used an axe/axe build in explorable dungeons for a while, with full berserk gear with soldier runes for some extra defense and condition removal with shouts. Utilities were FGJ, SIO and signet of stamina (dodging is a really neat way to avoid damage as a glass cannon). Healing skill was healing surge, elite was signet of rage. I’ve dealt very heavy damage, and rarely ever died (if your group got 1-2 people focusing on support it’s easy to stay alive). Just need to dodge at the right time and know when to retreat and go ranged. If you like axes go for it, it’s definitely viable.

Edit: Put the build together if anyone is interested in it

You hide until the patrol passes by. Then you go for the golem and you have to nuke it down in one go. You gotta do it quickly because patrols will stack up on you, so bring some heavy dps. After the golem is down you gotta destory the barrier gates. When theres more than 2 patrols on you just go back to the hiding spot, kill them there (with some AoE it goes really fast) and repeat this until all gates are down. Once the gates are down there will be no more spawns. The rest of the path is pretty straight forward

All fine and nice, just make MF worthless in dungeons. MF in no way contributes to the success of the group yet rewards the player who uses it more than the others who use a combat stat instead of it. This is really bad design (contradicting our manifesto aren’t we?).
Also bosses drop way too much money now, the prices have already begin to skyrocket, and those who don’t run dungeons will find the TP way too expensive. Either give better karma liquid or bit more tokens, but the amount of coins bosses drop should be lowered

MF Gear in Dungeons Contribute less get more

Soeki.9643

It seems the community is split in two:

1) People who sacrifice the extra loot for the group. No matter how you look at it, no matter how easy a dungeon is (though true you won’t really see it’s negative effects in easier dungeons, cept for slower runs), MF is a selfish stat, which only benefits you. I won’t elaborate, many did before me, but the 2nd group should be happy about people who actually use 3 combat stat gear (faster, smoother runs). It’s obvious, but this group is against MF in this form, but with some rework it could workout well for everyone (like the shared MF idea, or just have MF as food buff, etc).

2) People who sacrifice combat effectiveness for the extra loot. No matter how skilled you are, if you would wear a 3 combat stat gear, you’d be better, you’d make your group’s life easier. But you decided to take the extra loot instead. If everyone would think the same way, and all would wear MF gear, trust me a lot more groups would fail. It seems like people in this group find MF gear mandatory.

As most of you probably guessed I’m against MF in dungeons. Outside of it, wear it all you want to but not at the expense of someone else. If you can make your teammates’ life easier why wouldn’t you?

My thoughts exactly. I haven’t thought about this MF is shared idea, but it’s certainly viable.

First of all let me say that Anet you created a great game (with your latest dungeon, the Fractals you took a big step in the right direction, keep it that way!).

TL; DR:
Remove MF gear effects from dungeons!

I love the philosophy behind the game, that there is no kill steal, node steal etc. Everyone is rewarded for their actions. Moreover, if you do more you get better rewards (events) which is completely fair.

However in dungeons, there is no such system. You work together as a team and more or less get the same reward (from mobs/chests). Here comes the issue with MF gear in dungeons.
MF gear has 2 useful stats (power/precision, I know they added new ones but let’s go with this) to the party, and a 3rd stat which does nothing for the team. Let’s say I’m running with my warrior in full berserk set(power/precision/crit damage) glass cannon, and an other guy runs with MF gear glass cannon. Let’s assume we are equally skilled. My damage will be clearly higher due to the extra crit damage. I contributed more to the success of the team (killing a boss/ finishing an event faster). After each boss/event he has a better chance to get more/rarer loot, than I do, while in contribution I did a lot more.

Other issue could be that the player is not skilled enough without the 3rd extra combat stat and keeps dying, becoming a true hindrance to the team.

So the philosophy behind this is be less useful, and get more reward for it? I don’t like it. I’d suggest that you remove any beneficial effect MF gear has in dungeon.
