There are 3 exits to every spawn. Use another one.
Some of the stuff in this thread is amazing. I don’t think some of the posters even palyed since near launch.
EotM was never asked for. It was a pleasant surprise. People had lots of things to do while waiting for ques. The problem was there wasn’t information on the ques. Was it first come first serve? Is there some weird algorithm to it? What is my position in the que? That is what players asked for.
And we got it! Yea! I now know my position in the que! Now I know about how much time it will be so I can go around and do other stuff.
We never asked for EotM. Sure, there were a few suggestions, a few people who had the idea. They were a very small minority. The vast majority, at the time, wanted things like the ques fixed, better rewards, unique rewards, performance increases, different color commander tags, the fulfilling of the promise to better legendary weapon access, and many more.
But devs made the map. Just the fact that they put so much time and effort into something that was beautiful and intricate kittened a lot of people off because they did very little to change the things that people have been asking for since day 1.
Re: beta, they asked for mostly WvW guilds to participate in the beta. Yes, it was mostly a debug thing. They aren’t going to change the whole kitten thing based on player feedback. They already built it. You can blame the devs for EotM design completely.
Regarding the original topic to this thread. There is no dev presence because WvW has been relatively unchanged since launch. Some of the biggest issues have been addressed, which really isn’t much as it’s really just fixing broken stuff, such as culling, lag, preformance issues, etc. Instead of figuring out how to stop hacking, they removed orbs. There have been a few significant changes, like getting rid of the lake, introducing the trait system, que revamping.
The thing is, since most of the changes are fairly insignificant, they are more insulting than helping. For example, the reward system that was introduced. It was just re-skinning of karma gear. Not only that, but not all the armors stats were available. So, their efforts are returned with scorn. This is what most of the changes reward. Scorn and negativity. As human beings are behind this stuff, why would they subject themselves to all the toxicity.
Another thing is that WvW is immensely complicated. PvP class balancing is nothing compared to WvW as we can wear anything and use buffs. Maps are not just cap and hold. Matches last a week and not 15 minutes. There are 3 teams of potentially 360 players as opposed to 2 teams of 5. There is so much more to WvW and there will never be satisfied people, and the unsatisfied are usually the ones who kitten and make irrational suggestions on the forums.
But there’s some things we, the long time players, just can’t answer, which are the corporate decisions as to why they don’t invest major resources to WvW. I’ve been on BG since Day 1, but I quit about 6 months ago due to the complete lack of actual attention to WvW players, not lip service. Every now and then, I log into the BG TS and the only time it’s full is on reset. It’s a ghost town most other times. They’ve lost a ton of players.
They need to stop putting band aids on the bleeding gorilla in the room, and need to get rid of it completely. Consolidate the servers to 9 new ones, make whole new maps, listen to the majority of rational issues and invite major WvW guilds to a meeting to discuss things before you start making them. Start a PTS.
Any whoo.
Consolidating all servers to 6 new servers is the only solution.
Here’s a link to a post I made discussing many of these issues.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Here-s-how-to-fix-WvW/first#post4141404
I play on BG and WvW has definitely been falling off. It isn’t just BG, but the other T1 servers as well. When I’m in NA prime and it takes 45 minute of roaming around trying to find a fight, that’s a sign that the other servers are suffering. When the scores are close, and I know that my servers participation is low, then that tells me the other servers are suffering.
I love this game and WvW. But I’ve had issues with WvW for a long time, stemming all the way back from when they nerfed mesmer portals. It’s always been one small thing after another. The final straw for me was the way they handled the S2 reward chest. I don’t care about the rewards, but the fact that it was bugged, the fact that it took as long as it did to fix just shows how much time and effort is put into WvW. Also, that there have been nothing from the devs since S2 about any future content makes me think I’m going to play the same thing again.
The funny thing is, I’ve since checked out ESO, that was horrible, and Wildstar, which is buggy as hell, terrible balance issues, broken classes, and it wants a subscription. I’ve currently re-subed SWTOR for fun. It just reminds me how great GW2 really is, but I still can’t play the same maps after two years and get no fights.
BTW, WvW and PvP is the endgame content, not PvE. I finished the new LS content after a few hours. After that, it is exactly the same thing. Like all PvE content, the enemies do the exact same thing at the exact same time. WvW and PvP consist of real people who do different things with different builds at different times. You are facing different people with different people. All that adds variety, which along with fun imo is the thing that sustains gameplay. I’ve been playing this game for almost 2 years soley because of WvW. I can’t imagine spending the same amount of time doing dungeons for 8 hours at a stretch or whatever.
It’s actually a pretty common issue. If one looks through the forums and CDIs, the lack of rewards for scouting comes up frequently. I myself play and sometimes command on a T1 server. It’s like pulling teeth to try to get people to scout places, even important ones, like your home garrison.
Once again, I have crap stuck in my head and need to write it down to make room for more crap. This will probably never happen, as it will require quite a bit of work on Anets part.
The lord at all structures would have a new conversation option, something like “select a scout.” Once that conversation choice is selected, a small event circle will start. A minimum of 5 people must be standing in the event circle, one of which MUST be an active commander.
After a short amount of time, lets say 10 seconds, the commander will have a new skillset consisting of one skill, naming a scout. The commander would then select one of the people that was in the event circle, and use the name scout skill, which will place a BUFF on that player. The commander can not choose him or herself.
This buff will be a scout buff and will get specific benefits, all of which are open to balance. I’m thinking that something like every 3 minutes, the scout receives a small amount of gold, xp, and wxp. I know all of this is complicated, but this is a fantasy, so to go even farther, the scout would also get a very small amount of percentage of wxp and xp shared by any fights that are occurring on the map. Also, maybe a scout can have a new color in chat so that if they type something in map, it stands out. Another idea would be to have the buff provide permanent swiftness. Anyway…
This buff would only stay on the scout while they stay within the confines of the structure. This means that a new boarder would have to be made specifically for this buff, that is 900 units from the outside of the structure. Sometimes it is necessary for a scout to leave to clear siege or fight someone on a catapult. Camps would have to have a much larger area, as the ideal scouting locations are often on the thatched roof wall on the entrance to the camp.
The buff would not last for more than an hour. After which time, a new breakout event would have to be started.
Large structures, like SMC and keeps can have two players with the buff.
If the structure is captured, the buff goes away.
Why am I making this so complicated? I’m trying to conceive of possible abuses and griefing. One shouldn’t be able to simply go up to the lord and get the buff. That means that whoever clicks it first would get it. At least, if there is an active commander, then the odds are that someone is being responsible. I also wanted to keep it no more than 5 for the event, because there are often lots of small groups that do a lot of great work or are often responsible for scouting. I can still forsee abuse, but I think that with the steps I outlined above, it would be very rare, and if it did happen, would be reported very quickly.
Thanks.

Many people have asked for this since launch. Nothing new. Probably one of the easiest things they could do for WvW which hasn’t been done.
That happens to me sometimes as well.
The best way is to vary up what you’re saying. Don’t use the same words but have the same meaning. If you are using the same words then mispell them. Such as:
LFG
looking for group
I would like a party
Invite for taxi please
loking fore groupe
look to find groop
The best: WvW. The worst: WvW.
Is that someone at the door?
Leveling in WvW is not a good idea. First, it is very slow. Second, you will die very fast and rally the enemy. This will be frustrating to you and to the people around you. If you are not on a T1 server, then this can take forever. Just wait until you’re 80.
As much as I hate to say it, as I’m totally against it, EotM is probably the fastest right now. I don’t consider it part of WvW.
PvP is probably the most fun to level as you can learn some things about your class that way, get loot, get tomes of knowledge. However, PvP is pretty limeted, especially towards the elementalist due to stat choices and the enemy classes and builds. You are going to have much more build diversity in WvW.
I whole hartedly agree with the OP and anyone else who actually wants to fight.
No, this is not a WvW map as it has no bearing on PPT.
Yes, it IS a PvP map as there are 2 other realms of players that you are able to kill. If it was meant to be a karma train, they wouldn’t have made as such and taken away the ability to kill other players.
I have been raged against so much for even suggesting that we defend or even reporting where the enemy blob is in the hopes of engaging them. Karma training is so mindlessly boring. It is much more fun to kill players, and here’s the rub, way more rewarding. Wipe an enemy zerg 3 times and you have full bags. How long is that going to take karma training? Maybe people will step up their game on this map instead of being mindless zombied PvD and learn that theres actual skill and teamwork to group combat.
If the map is dead, then by all means, karma train, but be prepared to defend yourself or kill the enemy if they show up.
TBH, just hop in to TS, or whatever you use, and follow commanders you think do well. You don’t need videos.
This is one of my favorites:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tX6-gZw2tog" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
More like how not to command.
I disagree on your point “Maps”.
Maps do not change anything in first place. To make it short and simple. Your girl gets a new Hairstyle, she is still the same girl. Maybe she looks hotter with it? But she is still the same. She does not get that its ok for you if this movie has no real plot but solid action and e.c.t. e.c.t. …
Changing maps is the most obvious way for a developer to stay fresh and in general the cheapest way to ignore balance discussions. But I just want to point out, if a game has to stay fresh it has major problems in his core. It should not be needed and like all other long living games are proving over and over and over again. Maps do not need to change at all.
Nuances maybe. make this hill to a cliff so people can not walk up and stuff. A map can always evolve a bit if the developer dislikes the movement we do or the majority disagrees with certain small parts of the area. Thats ofc healthy but to change the maps? Nothing will change. Learn again how to siege and other basic stuff will be done fast. And than it comes to what games are all about or should be all about. Execution!
We’ve been playing the same two maps for almost two years. We need something new. EB is still an extremely well balanced map, though. However, I’m not just advocating new maps. Having just new maps wouldn’t cut it, as the same issues would still be there underneath. It would be a whole new system, starting from scratch. That’s like dumping your girlfriend for a new one.
Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to my post. I know there’s a lot there. If I may.
[quote}more ocx/sea manages to get into server A before it gets full. Less gets into server B before it gets full. same kitten will happen.[/quote]
What I imagine are small increments as the servers rotate to accept players.
Ok, we let servers fill up with baddies/pugs/banwagons first. Then we have an organized mass transfer of all old guilds from BG into some low pop server. Same kitten as now.
The system i have in mind, this wouldn’t be possible. If a large group of people were to transfer to another server, lets say from A to C, then C becomes the larger populated server and it would reach its cap. It would be closed for transfers.
3) Have a real overflow system.
I thought you just said that a new map should be added if the others fill up?
These are seperate things that all work together. The overflow system are for the minor fluctuations during peak times. But as the re-birth of WvW draws more people in, then a new map would be needed so that there are not people in an overflow map all the time. Like I said earlier, and you said “good luck with that,” it requires hard work and programming to keep metrics of the amount of people in overflow, at what times, the average wait time to get into WvW proper.
You get rid of projectile reflection blocking treb shots, but you put an ability on catapaults? How dumb is that? Now we just build a catapault amongst our 3 trebs. This isn’t working.
actually, this was an improvement as it makes us pay more attention to our supply usage and we aren’t reliant on one class to do it.
There were multiple classes and abilites that could block/reflect treb shots. It wasn’t limited to swirling winds. Over the course of maybe a half-year, they slowly eliminated these skills. It’s just the classic case of the developers not thinking of the repercussions. I’m sure they wanted to offer protection from players, not as something to be used to block treb shots, cycled by 5 players to have permanent treb proteciton, for 25 supply. Heck, I carry 20 supply. It’s not that hard to manage that. If I’m lucky, I can build a cata all by myself.
But that is getting into the minutia rather than looking at the bigger picture: 90% of the WXP abilites centered around siege. I’m sure there’s more that can be done here. Better things that focus on players and groups. There are tons of suggestions which focus on the minutia. They should be taken into account, but their premised on the existing WvW system.
Looking at how many new modes and maps PvP has received tells me this.
what new game mode? also, pvp maps are a fraction of the size of a wvw map.
I think you missed my point: we are in agreement. PvP has barely received map updates. I think the one thing they’ve wanted for the longest time was a different type of map other than cap and hold. They got an arena, but that is not in the sPvP or tPvP rotation. It is reflective of the resouces put into the non PvE aspects of the game.
I did say at the end that this is a wishlist and will never happen. However, the thing is, it could if they care. If they really understand how important WvW is to the end game. If they hire some people and get cracking now, they could have something like what I descirbed. New games have come out. Some, like ESO are flops, from what I understand. I palyed it for a month. Other games are coming out now and are filled with bugs which will take a long time to correct. Still more will be released in the near future. Heck, it could be an expansion. I’d gladly pay $20-$40 bucks for a whole new WvW.
GW2 can still compete with them because it has a great fight mechanic and it’s beautiful to play. It isn’t over if they start now and start anew.
(edited by Spurnshadow.3678)
3) Have a real overflow system.
You’ve come out with megaservers. It works in PvE and EotM. EotM was your solution to overflow issues, however, due to the rules you set up and your updated que interface, this failed miserably. You have to implement different rules and stick with them, otherwise, it really isn’t an overflow map, is it?
- Overflow maps should be one-way streets.
- One can not enter an overflow map unless all maps are qued.
- One can not enter an overflow map unless all maps are qued. (it is so important, I did it twice.
- In order to enter an overflow map, you must first be qued for a regular WvW map. At this point, you may choose from the two smallest map population WvW overflow maps (it’s important to have a choice).
- Once your que pops, you must either take it, or be kicked to where you were before you entered.
- One can not invite people or join others in a particular overflow map via party selection. These are overflow maps. They are not meant to be places to purposefully bring lots of people or camp out at. Besides, due to above, once your que pops, you will be redirected to either WvW or some other place. Yes, you can que again, but your instance may not be the same.
4) Implement real changes that the WvWers have asked for.
I don’t want to go down the list. You have the forums forums for that. Stuff along the lines of different colored commander tags. Squad interface. Dots on the mini-map that indicate squads differences. Stuff that actually effects large scale PvP which is what WvW is all about.
5) Get rid of things that just don’t work.
Is this guild wars or siege wars? I feel, and I’m not the only one, that Anet has given us more siege abilites to merely codify the players that they are getting something new. However, this has just made the game dynamic revolve around siege more. That is a bad thing. As a result, you’ve had to come out with more and more abilities that center around siege to balance things out. You get rid of projectile reflection blocking treb shots, but you put an ability on catapaults? How dumb is that? Now we just build a catapault amongst our 3 trebs. This isn’t working.
Create a whole new WvW ranking system that centers more around player abilites. I haven’t put much thought into this, just trying to get what’s currently in my brain out. Just trying to get through the big points rather than getting caught up in the minutia. Upon writing, you’d probably have to reset all WvW rank points and condense them, for example, I have maybe 1600? So, maybe after this big slate cleaning, I will have 100. It’s arbitrary, really. It should be relative to whatever the amount and ticks the new ranking abilites are.
Provide more health to gates and walls relative to siege.
Make Lords scale to population imbalace.
The biggies.
6) Create a real GvG area.
This isn’t just a map, or a portion of a map, but a whole new map and game mode, like PvP, just on a larger scale. it need its own interface. There’s been enough on the forums about this.
7) Think outside the box more!
It isn’t popular on the forums, but I think many people like the “orb” system. It adds a whole new dynamic to the game. It rewards fights. It makes us have to consider points denied and points recieved per stomp. That’s a lot of dimension. Keep stuff like this that works. I just came up with the ppt system in that city map thing while writing this. Imagine what you guys could do.
There’s lots of other stuff, but most of it has already been suggested in the forums. Little things that make a difference. This post is mostly to get stuff off my mind, and to let people realize that YOU SHOULDN’T PATCH SOMETHING THAT’S BROKEN. REBUILD IT. That’s what most of the existing forum posts are doing. Offering suggestions to patch something that needs to be scrapped. You have to start from scratch.
However, this post is a wishlist. It will never happen. It requires too much work and resources. Looking at how many new modes and maps PvP has received tells me this.
OK, send me a check for $5,000. You have my details on file.
Sorry, I have to get this out, otherwise, it’s just going to rattle in my brain for a month or so.
Bottom line: Lots of hard work and tough decisions. You need to start from scratch. Wipe the slate clean. Start anew.
1) Eliminate all servers.
This would be highly unpopular. I sure as heck wouldn’t like it. I’ve been on Blackgate since launch. I have tons of server pride. However, the 24 server system is not for WvW. Why 24 servers? Because that’s how many were needed FOR EVERYONE, not just WvW. Just like any other server based MMO, this is done to handle capacity. It is unfair to expect there to be even amounts of WvW players across 24 servers. This is obvious and only compounded with transfers. This would solve server imbalance. Don’t worry, there are solutions for blobbing later.
However, don’t make the same mistake as the first time. Set up some ground rules having learned from the mistakes and successes of the past:
- Create 3 new servers
- Gate the transfers of people to the new servers based on population. As one server starts to fill, close it so the others can fill up and match the server levels. This process should take at least a week. This is to ensure even populations across all timezones and should help to curb “night capping.”
- One can ONLY transfer to a lower populated server for a gem cost and can not participate in WvW for a week.
- People who want to participate in WvW after this process will ONLY be allowed to enter the lower populated servers.
- Population numbers will not be exact as people come and go, move on to other things but don’t leave. There will have to be a buffer amount at the top end. There should be ongoing metrics of actual participating players to determine a servers population health (this is crucial, you can’t just set it up and leave it alone). This buffer amount will also be needed for large groups of people who want to transfer or newly participate, like guilds.
2) Create 3 new maps.
Lets face it. The old maps are just that, old. I feel like I’ve worn through the digital road to the great, vast ocean of water that awaits below. More importantly, the boarderland style doesn’t work, and, lets face it, its kinda lazy. We know every knoll, nook and vally. We know every siege placement. We know exactly how far siege fires. It’s just stale. Yes, yes, I know you made EotM, but it isn’t in the rotation. WvWers barley play it. This will, of course, probably be the hardest and most time consuming. Heck, you already have EotM. Tweek it for balance and you are already on your way!
- No BL style maps. They should be tri-balanced, like EB.
- Each map should have different population caps. This is crucial for balance and helps to eliminate blobbing. The time it takes to travel from one objective to another is crucial to this. Base your population on the map, not an arbitrary number.
- Purposfully make new maps have different population sizes. Make one map hold 120, one 80, one 40. This would add a great variety. And allow for some creative license, not only with the maps, but also with gameplay, for example:
- Have one map be a city style map. Instead of capping and holding major objectives, the PPT would be based on the percentage of the city that the server controls. One could have barricades that get built in the streets that determines you’re control cut off point. There could be a big area in the middle, like a square or garden similar to Divinities Reach or Ebonhawke) that has more open field type fights. Maybe some siege is disabled, like trebuchets. Someone else thought of city maps. I just made up the other stuff right now. The point is you see how creative you can get if one is paid for it and spends some time thinking about it. (This bullet point has gotten out of control)
*Having maps with different populations would cater to different play styles. Most people don’t like blobbing. I personally like large scale fights (Not blobbing, but actual orginized fighting). Some like 40 v 40, 20 v 20s, and 10 v 10s. Different population maps would help to encourage that instead of having to run around for 20-30 minutes PvDing and hoping to run into someone or pull the enemy to you. Boring! - Base the number of maps needed on the population of WvW. As the population grows, add a map (have one in your back pocket, it’s a great thing if you need to pull it out), as it shrinks, pull one out of the rotation so the maps aren’t dead.
Continued in another post. Have to wait 5 minutes
Edited my post to reflect the summary of the body of my post.
Orbs. Meh. Sort of. The game came out with orbs. But due to the hacking, instead of trying to figure out how to stop it, which I’m sure you guys were trying, but just couldn’t do it, you got rid of the orbs. This removed a very dynamic aspect of WvW. Whether it was a good or bad dynamic is not at stake. It was there and you removed it. A year later, we got the lake filled in. So, now, no more mercinaries. We have a new aspect to WvW now. (I personally really like it). So update? hard to say. You removed 2 things and replaced it with something else. I think it is better, so…. maybe.
WvW rankings. Yes, an update. Some people asked for something like this, so, I guess y’all felt this would solve the feeling of progression. If you remember, however, it was an absolute fiasco with the arrow cart crap. I personally know people who left just because of that. Now, however, it’s is rather meaningless, especially since y’all merged the rankings to all characters. We have so many points now…. I’m digressing. Yes, it is an update.
Moving the jumping puzzle to a seperate map? Update, very minor. Something we’ve been asking for since launch.
The arena in the samctum. Yes, an update. One that sort of soved the GvG problem, but I really don’t know many guilds who use it.
More rewards for badges. Yes, an update. It wasn’t much when it came out, as it still costs some gold and not all the stats were available (why?), but now, absolutely worthless as we can’t salvage them. Who is going to put runes of strength or Melandru or Bloodlust in WvW gear? No one, unless they are ignorant. New skins? Nope, not an update. Sorry. You loose. These are just karma skins. Nothing new was done. Do you think WvWers are starving for karma?
Thinking… What else….
EotM Close, but no cigar. Real shame, though, the map is gorgeous. As others have said, this doesn’t effect WvW at all (the supply is minor, only effects one map, and is often overlooked). It is a megaserver map, so no RvR. It isn’t an overflow map, so you can go to it seperately. This could have been fantastic, and still can. It would need some balance changes and reworking (just one example, red is totally op with the worm tunnels.).
Que system. Yeah, I’ll give this one as an update.
Hmm… What else…. (Yes, I’m literally just typing as I’m thinking, so forgive)
Tournaments? Yeah, ok, that’s an update. Not much to it though, really.
Alright, so to summerize (by all means, if i’m forgetting something, correct me):
THESE THINGS ARE NOT UPDATES, THEY ARE FIXES TO THE GAME:
Culling
Skill lag
Orbs (putting this in both)
THESE ARE THINGS THAT YOU THINK ARE UPDATES, BUT REALLY ARE NOT
EotM
THESE ARE UPDATES
Orbs
Que interface
Badges Vendor (Worthless now)
Tournaments
Obsidium Sanctum (super minor)
Arena (small, but an update, none the less)
WvW Progression
Siege Abilities
So, looking at that list above, seems pretty paltry, huh? Now, compare that to Living story updates. Think about the effort and money that goes into that. Voice acting (there’s a lot to that). Programming all this stuff. Dungeons that were only out a month or less. Tons of instances. Major, huge, map updates. Tons of new skins. Writers. Lots of new monsters with brand new mechanics. It’s just really hard for me to imagine all the time, effort, money, personell, etc. that goes into all that, compared to orbs, que interface, and badges of honor vendor.
Updates.
(edited by Spurnshadow.3678)
It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.
I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.
Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.
See, this irks me. Mr. Carter, I appreciate that this is your job, so you are close to this topic. Appreciate the fact that so am I and so are many others. Just to validate my position a little: been on Blackgate since launch. Over 6000 hours and 1500 war points. An avid WvWer.
Lets look at the “updates” WvW has gotten; and yes, “updates” is meant to be in quotations. Maybe I will leave some out by accident, as I am just writing this in response to you.
Culling. Do you guys consider this an update? I don’t. Not one bit. I conscider it a bug fix. People were leaving the game because of this. Y’all released a game that can have 80 people on a map but not see eachother? This is a pure matter of the game wasn’t ready at launch and it took a super long time to rectify the situation. So, no, not an update.
Skill lag. Same as above. Bug fixes, not an update. Your servers were sub-par, or the code wasn’t right, or whatever. It doesn’t matter. What matters is, for me, it only got truly fixed a few months ago. That’s how long we’ve been playing with major skill lag. A year and a half. Not an update. This is still a problem for some, but I think it well into the minority now. However, because it did take so long to finally address, many have left. Those of us who stayed learned to live with it. But again, this is not an update, this is Anet fixing the game. Big difference.
Here’s an analogy (by all means, skip if you like). It’s like buying a new house with no woindows. Well, you thought there was going to be windows, but there wasn’t. You’re money is already gone and the movers already put your stuff in the house. Rather than go through the major hassle of moving out and suing the contracter, he assures you he’ll fix it asap. Well, he doesn’t. Over the course of a year, he installs one window at a time on the 2nd floor. Meanwhile, you learn to live with the leaks when it rains, and the cold in the winter by huddling around the fireplace and the heat in the summer by using fans (you’re AC is useless with these windows open). Then, one day, a year and a half later, the contractor installs all the windows in the 1st floor. At this point, you’re jumping for joy. But really, shouldn’t those windows have been there in the first place? Are they really “updates.”

Sign in today and I see “Win a legendary in Tournament of Legends 2!” Brilliant.
For me, this S2 reward fiasco was the straw that broke the camels back.
I don’t care at all about the rewards. It’s a matter of actions speaking louder than words and is a direct metric to where their priorities lay. If they can’t fix this bug in a timely manner, then they will never, ever, get around to fixing the bugs that have been out since launch and will take forever to do the major things that we all want, i.e. new maps, different colored commander tags, some kind of squad system, maybe even something as radical as getting rid of all the servers and condensing them onto 3 brand new ones with actual overflow maps that you can’t directly que to. I think the WvW population is low enough at this point for something like that (I’m in a T1 server and TS is dead. The fact that we’re doing as well as we are tells me that the other T1 servers must be having population issues as well, otherwise, we’d be getting creamed. Actual GvG type area with interface options. Blah, blah blah.
Whatever. I’m tired of getting smacked in the face.
You know, I’m sitting here bored, not in WvW, reading this stuff.
So many things that have been said time and again. I could contribute my 2c, like all the little things that add up. I’m also comming up with all kinds of great ideas and solutions to all these problems that would work. No doubt about it. It would solve server imbalance, night capping, all the biggies. I thought about starting a new thread to share my ideas.
But, really, what’s the point? It isn’t going to change. No one cares. The changes that I’m thinking of are BIG. It would require lots of work. That will never happen. And if it ever did happen, it would probably take too long, and most of the people now left in WvW would have gone.
Why do we even post threads like this anymore? We’ve been asking for this crap for a year and a half. We got a vendor that sells some standard exotics, not all, need gold too, and karma skins.
Maybe in another year when no one is left in WvW this will happen.
Wow. Some people are so… Just wow.
DPS = Damage Per Second. You guys know that, right? Damage over time.
I have been skimming through this post and keep seeing some guy, or maybe more than one compare some arbitrary number of a Lich Form necro to a warrior. IT’S FRIGGIN LICH FORM! It’s an elite skill. You don’t run around in lich form 100% of the time. Therefore, classes like warriors and thieves are going to out dps you. Jeez, the auto attack alone on my thief can hit for over 6K against NPCs.
So some people are saying give 500 tickets to everyone, problem solved.
Well then what was the point of the tournament???
To win, silly. You think we did this for a skin?
Wow, you PvPers.
So, I have 3 sets of gear on one of my characters. Lots of different weapons sets. I wan’t to pvp. Go to the mists to que up and check my builld. But wait. I want to use a dagger. Crap. It isn’t in my inventory. It’s in my bank becuase I don’t want half of my bags filled with gear for different builds. Now I need to go to Lions Arch to get the dagger out of my bank.
This sort of scenario happens sometimes. Heck, sometimes we just que up from outside the mists and realize too late once we’re in the match. We have to quickly leave. But wait, have to go to the mists first. No bank there. Have to either go to LA or buy a white item from the vendor and it isn’t the look that I want. At this point, I’ve probably run out of time and the match has started.
You people argueing against having a bank, or anything in the Mists have never run into this since April 15th? I have quite a few times. And to recap:
People aready use the mists for purposes other than PvPing, mostly, a free trip to LA.
It’s an overflow map. How are you inconvenienced?
Why woulnd’t you want the extra services? As it stands now, if you got booted to the mists because you didn’t exit your match fast enough, then I have to go to LA for services. Why not just put them in the mists?
The above are rhetorical questions.
Everyone would be in Heart of the Mists, everyone…
So, no thanks
It’s an overflow map. Everyone is already there. There are multiple instances of the Mists.
At first, I thought this was a good idea. Then I thought for a few more seconds.
There should not be a resign function due to 4v5. Instead, they should (and I’ve mentions this numerous times. Others have mentioned this numerous times. It isn’t rocket science.) just draw another player from the PvP que pool. Done.
Match starts with 4 people on the team? Timer starts. If the fifth person doesn’t log back in, then the above. Meanwhile, the last person out of the gate on the other team gets stuck at spawn. He is released when either a) one of his team mates dies and goes back to spawn or b) the 60 seconds is up and a new player is drawn from the pool of PvPers.
So simple, right? Apparently not.
Jeez, you guys are getting hung up on staff ele and missing the point. I did well on my staff ele. Killed a few solo, offered good support, decaped points, blah blah blah. Yeah, I kill a lot faster on my mesmer, and bunker better on my guardian. I am rank 53, so I’m not a newb in PvP. I also know how to play an ele out side of pvp and just want to see if it is anywhere viable with my level of skill in PvP after April 15th.
But again, THAT ISN’T THE POINT. The point is match imbalance and plethora of 4 v 5s.
While I agree that profession balance is partially up to me, I would like to try to get better on my ele. I’m best on my mesmer. But I do disagree, to an extent. If they match all ranged against all melee, then why couldn’t they have swapped 2 players in the matchmaking process. If the rankings were going to be too far off, then wait another minute for someone else to be in the pool and make a more balanced melee / ranged group. I’ve been in soo many matches that had 4 of one class and the other team had 3 or 4 of another class. That doens’t make sense to me.
We should be allowed to play want we want and have the system work out the matches.
Granted, it may not be the best group comp. At that point, we can determine whether we think the system did a good job in making up my teams group comp and choose to relog to a different profession.
Does this even need a post? It was obvious to me after being in the mists after 5 minutes.
I know right, I mean how would I expect you to know about WvW.
Only a select few have the options of personal banks in WvW. Smaller servers have a hard time holding their keeps long enough to upgrade them. So the bigger number 1 servers might have the banks, but not the smaller servers. Also, WvW just recently added the ability to teleport back to where you were when you joined, so… apparently you have not been playing long.
Your attempt at mocking and belittling is pathetic. Why are you even in the PvP forum if you are a uber mack pro WvW player? Be careful leaving your zerg.
Personal bank on any BL: Go to the guild registrar, access guild bank, in the upper left hand corner, there’s a drop down menu, access account vault. Open your iinventory in a second window. Ta-da!
Someone also mentioned your home boarderland. Crafting stations.
So, why not the same with the mists? Big fail. But again, does this really need a post? It’s like rubbing a dogs nose in poo.
Well, I constantly run into matches that are 4 thievs vs, 4 mesmers. All ranged vs All melee, stuff like that. There’s also been many suggestions to try to have ranking limits so we don’t get rank 5s and 60’s in matches with a bunch of 30s and 40s. Stuff like that. But I don’t want this thread to turn into how matchmaking could be better; just a strait up, matchmaking improvement vs. que time increase.
I’ve read many devs state that they are apprehensive to change the matchmaking system as it would create longer que times. I don’t know about you guys, but my que times are pretty short. Usually, I wait only when I first que up for a few minutes. After that, If I que when my match ends, then I usually get a que right away. I’m assuming that this is because I’m playing with mostly the people who were in the match before me. If I delay, at all, then I only have to wait maybe 5 minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 10 minutes for a match.
So, would you rather have a better matchmaking system and have longer que times, or keep the system as is so that there are short que times?
Just venting here. Not having a good time so far. Why is the matchmaking system so screwed up (Rhetorical. I actually don’t care why, just fix it)?
1) 4v5 loosing side
2) 4v5 loosing side
3) 1 staff ele, 1 DD ele, 2 mes, ranger (so ranged) vs. 2 warriors, 2 thieves, DD Ele (Melee)
4) Good mix. Actually a close score: 497 to 500
5) OK, mix. let me see if I can remember. 3 warriors, staff ele, necro vs 2 necros, engi, warrior, can’t remember the last. Close match (btw, still haven’t won a match. Granted, I’m playing a staff ele, maybe I should get on my mesmer at this point.)
6) 4v5 loosing side. Even though we lost, we did well.
So, after a couple hours, lost every match. half of which were 4 v 5s and one was super imbalanced. Done for now. I can’t take it anymore.
This is no joke. I’m not making this up. Anet, you can check my history in game, or whatever. I’m sure there’s some kind of record.

Wow, great list!. There are a lot of simple but super awesome suggestions here that would greatly improve our gaming quality of life. I recognize many of them as suggestions that have existed since launch, and some new ones. I really wish the devs would spend more time on many of these, which seem very simple to do.
How many more thousands of feedback do we need to give ANet?
Has ANet seriously not taken on board ANYTHING?
In 2 years there has been 3 small changes and 1 big change which was EOTM which didn’t even add anything to WvW, it added to PvE.
Nobody asked for orbs to return, it gives more power to the stacked servers. ANet brought those back despite community outcry.
Nobody asked for an insignificant PvE karma train map. ANet made this on its own.
When will the players matter to ANet?
How many more years will it take for ANet to provide WvW with a dedicated and passionate dev team?
We can only give you suggestions so many times before we simply stop caring like ANet stopped caring about WvW 2 years ago.
It’s attitude like this that doesn’t help at all.
There’s always something that can be improved. We wanted a new map for the longest time. They gave us EotM and it’s brilliant. It is a beautiful and really well designed map. Is the fact that people turned it into a karma farm Anets fault? Maybe partially due to the high incentive structure, but it is also the players fault as well for bandwagonning that. There’s nothing preventing you WvW guilds from going in there every now and then and owning face.
I personally would love to see a map like this in actual WvW. Someone else made a thread asking for a city map. I thought that was brilliant. I think if you had one more, tri-balanced, city map, then you could get rid of the boarderlands and just keep EB, put EotM in WvW proper, and the new map. Keep EotM as a duplicate overflow map as well.
But more importiantly, it did help alleviate que times which we were complaining about for the longest time. Not only that, but they actually did implement a system that give you your approcimate wait time, so now, we don’t have to stare at our screen for 15 minutes or 2 hours or whatever. EotM also got the super casual player out of WvW, a welcome addition for me as I want people who care about PPT, people who are geared for fights, people who will get into TS.
They improved server preformance drastically since launch. I myself experience almost 0 lag and I play at highest settings. I do understand that there are still many who experience lag, and I’m sure that Anet is working towards making that better eventually. But compare that to what it was like at launch and it’s night and day.
They got rid of culling.
They put in a system to get armor and weapons for badges. OK, it’s a really lame system as all the gear is just karma gear from around the world, and it does cost a little gold, and some of the stat choices are missing. One huge, huuuuuuuuge grip for me here is since they got rid of transmutation stones, all this gear is worthless. But, they did put in a system.
I am by no means an Anet fan boy. Heck, look at my signature. It’s just that the attitude of Anet sucks, they do nothing, when actually, they have, bothers me. If I put myself in their shoes, and I read something like this, I’d just gloss over, and probably start speeding past the rest of the threads. Yes, I feel they could be doing better. Yes, I think they should be listening more and focusing on what the players want rather than what they think we might enjoy.
One of the things that blew my mind is when they were discussing S1 vs S2 and the topic of que times came up. One of the benefits of this season is how we can go to EotM to get our meta and do something while we wait. I think that is a great addition.
However, Jessica states that she heard that there were que times of up to 3 hours, but never experienced them because she played on a lower tiered server. I don’t understand how someone who is the head of QA isn’t playing on mulitple servers. Wouldn’t you play a few times out of the entire season on a T1 server, or all three at some point just to get a feel for what is going on? I don’t understand this.
So, I see there’s a dev response on this, but not one on the stealth patch or bug about loosing stacks when one goes underwater. Brilliant.
Still no solution. No response to any of the threads on this subject. Funny thing, just got on my ranger, that I never play. Got a full set of Melandru Runes. I think most of the armor is karma, and I know the weapons are WvW. Love to transfer those runes to another character, but can’t. Since it has been over a month, now, I guess this is the status quo? So, I just throw out half my weapons and buy new sigils for my 2 handers? Yeah, great.
That sounds cool.
Happens to me as well and every single person I know. This can’t be as intended as it didn’t come out on the Arpil 15 patch and there was nothing in the May 20th patch about this. Considering the discrepancies, this must be a bug. Please fix ASAP. This is incredibly inconvenient.
Here’s a new one.
Nothing in the patch notes on this subject. WvW and karma gear still kinda useless.
Still waiting for a response to this in any thread where this is a topic.
Anything like this would be terrible. Why? Because Anet needs to fix the 4v5 and unbalanced matchmaking system.
I intentionally AFK quite a lot. Not every game or every other game, but when there’s a 4v5, as we all know, happens frequently, then I give it a shot. If it’s obvious that we can’t win, especially depending on the map (as some maps heavily favor 5 players over 4), then I’ll sit in spawn. I want the match to end asap so I can get to the next match that, hopefully, has 5 players.
There’s also that more rare instance where there are 3 warriors and 2 guardians of high ranking matched against 3 thieves, and 2 mesmer type of thing. Or how about when 3 members of your team don’t give a kitten at all about playing the map and just want to gank people.
So, yeah. Until those issues are fixed (Which isn’t hard. I’ve made other posts about them), don’t punish me and force me to play in a terrible match.
You’re not the only one in your team. It’s highly disrespectful to your team mates to sit out a match. All AFK’ers should be punished regardless of the situation. I don’t care if you think the match is lost or if the score is 400-0. Dishonorable points must be awarded if you go AFK.
No one is forcing you to enter solo q or team q either. If you queue up, those are the risks you take.
So, you want me to play your game? Get spawn camped, contiuously run to a node with 2 people on it and die over and over again. You want me to continually get killed without a chance at winning the match? No thank you. Sorry, that just isn’t fun for me. I can’t leave the match and do something else. I have to stay in it. I want it to end ASAP to get to a FAIR match with 5v5. I have tried, and succeeded in 4v5s, but it’s rare and very hard. The other team has to be really bad or have just a horrible group comp and builds. These matches and maps are carefully designed for 5v5.
No one is forcing me to enter solo que, but Anet has provided an incentive to do so. Don’t blame me for playing the game that Anet set up. Blame them. Why would I not enter solo or team que when that’s how I get the reward track?
I play a lot of PvP and almost never see someone afking in a 5v5. I only see it happening, and I’m not the only one who does it, is in 4v5s. Advocate a solution for the 4v5 and then revisit this issue.
I had a question for devs, if I want to do soloq or w/e but I don’t like conquest can I just fight people? Not afk, just not interested in capping or defending things?
Not interested in other players opinion just want to know if this is against some rule?
No, it’s not against the rules, and it’s one of the biggest reasons why PvP sucks. It has only been made worse with the reward tracks as it has attracted a lot more players that just want to roam around and gank people while still receiving the rewards. That’s fun for you, and that’s fine. Unfortunately, it comes at the expense of other peoples fun, which is winning matches.
The fault really lays with Anet, as they should have come up with different PvP modes other than cap and hold that you can choose from, which the community has been asking for for the longest time.
