scepter is fine; every class has certain weapons that are meta in scenarios, and have certain weapons that just arent. That does not warrant an overhaul of everything in order to make one weapon more useful in certain scenarios.
Thank you DHawk and Spirit for proving that no thread can ever have constructive criticism or productive discussion because two people can’t let their interweb egos go and believe their own selfish opinions are the only right ones.
Bravo for proving just how useless GW2 forums can be.
And for all the thieves crying; I am still able to kill anyone on my thief, be it bunker guard, or PU Mesmer; Even condi necros. Some encounters are harder than others, but then again who wants the game to be so easy and faceroll; besides all the complainers on these forums
This change was 100% warranted for this update. Stop being selfish and look at the bigger picture.
welcome to thief bud, its burst or die. That’s the class, get used to it.
pvp is not suffering, the condition changes have made it more interesting and people are complaining because the changes force people to change their cookie cutter meta builds and actually think about how they play.
eles have just as many useful meta builds as other classes; 1-2. Ele’s are in a great spot atm. no reason to change
The spvp is so imbalanced it is embarrassing. They have had 3 years to get it in some sort of tournament ready shape and they have done virtually nothing. All of the serious spvp players have long since moved on.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Guild Wars 2 but the current state of spvp is a joke. Full of flavour of the week builds, Turret engie is just another example of it.
Lol Flavor of the week builds? Nothing is OP; everything has a counter
Turret Engies are no different, while stupid easy to play, they are easily countered.
S/D is just awful for team fights and therefore will never become meta in Spvp. D/D has major killing power, good might stacking, good condi cleanse, good team healing, and can defend a point for ages.
S/D can burst…thats about it, too squishy for long fights, next to no team value. Their burst isnt even that good compared to a thief and thieves can burst way more often.
why are you asking for a build on an ele centered around one skill?
You should probably set the builds apart. Setting D/D and Cele Staff at the top since they are the only truly competitive builds for playing conquest, while the others like Scepter Fresh air are more for fun solo play and dont really bring anything to the team as a whole aside from short pinpointed burst.
Seriously. Cele Ammy comes and now we get:
-Might nerfed
-Battle Sigil nerfed
-Drake’s Breath nerfed
-Lightning Whip possibly nerfedPlease. If you do these things, all it does is push the class further into Cele Bunker. Tone down Cele amulet before you start messing with all of our other stuff :/
-Might nerf is a great change reducting the dmg output across all professions
-Sigil of battle nerf was needed
-Drake’s Breath is still ok due to the such low cd
-Lightning whip is more of a bug fix and increasing the dmg for the ones not exploiting the stow weapon for more dmg.
Ele’s rely on might more than any other profession, Drakes breath change isn’t bad, the exploit on lightning whip is a good change, but nerfing its damage by 10% is a big hit and uncalled for.
I think we should leave the maces to Guards and warriors.
LOL its not a new class, its a specialization within a class. Seriously look at the PAX reveal again please, and don’t be so foolish as to think that the druid is an entirely new class. It’s a title that brings, like they stated in the video, new utilities, new weapon, and a new way of playing your ranger. It said nothing about being a completely new profession, or even that new druid skills would be completely support. I am basing all of what I say on facts that they have released and confirmed. You are solely arguing based on speculation.
Sorry but they aren’t making completely new classes
They aren’t going to remove attunements, that’s a staple mark of the ele. What I see happening, like with most classes, and like they stated, a few new traits, a few new utility skills, and a new weapon. That is it. Nothing massively changing like some of the outrageous ideas I have seen on some of these threads.
But your not an ele any more your a new class. This is something ppl do not see to get the new classes are not add on to the existing classes they are classes of there own. You do not get to level 80 and then chose your 2ed class you get to level 80 and chose to stay as an ele or to play as the new class. So yes your right attuements is the mark of an ele but your no longer that class if you chose to use it.
Wrong, a specialization is not a new class, it is a addon to current classes, that adds new utilities, few new traits, and new weapon. Watch the PAX reveal again please.
My point is argueing about the use of abilities on such easy content which is entirely dependant on things out of the individuals control is a pretty pointless. You can play completely uselessly and still suceed at those events. Its not an arguement. I dont even know why im argueing about this.
You said those weapons werent mobile. They clearly are as they have mobility skills. Which can be used for map traveling or combat situations such as evading attacks, gap closing or combat mobility in difficult fights (kiting to recover endurance etc). Whether you see a use or not in whatever content you play is irrelevant. They are mobile weapons and you cant deny that.
But I am correct in saying they are not mobile in group PvE scenarios, again you are not using any of those mobility skills during these situations. Just because they are there doesn’t make it mobile if you’re not using said skills. This is why I find GS playstyle boring because in group PvE scenarios you rarely use the kitten skills and are essentially spamming AA and one skill 99% of the time.
And to bring it back to the OP. Yes I’m specifically referring to group PvE, I don’t give a kitten about WvW because Necros are fine in WvW and arguable sPvP. If necro is going to get a GS and operate similarly to how other GS’s work (ie spamming 1-2 skills on the weapon skillbar in group PvE combat (yes group PvE combat, the only type of situation where necros need a vast improvement in)), then I would be very dissapointed and seems like ANet is just throwing the GS at necros as a fix to their problems in group PvE instead of meaningful class changes.
If you are sitting in a group PvE situation spamming AA in a group situation, why would you need to be mobile? And if you needed to be mobile in those “group pve” situations you are talking about…why wouldn’t a warrior use GS3 or 5? I dont think anyone understands your points or argument.
Ive always found greatswords the most fun, fluid and impactful weapons on the other classes. I mean they are all very mobile weapons except for mesmers. They all have nice burst skills. And they have a range of defensive and offensive skills including control on some of them. Hopefully we get something along those lines as currently none of our weapons fills that kind of feel or range of abilities. I love daggers but its pretty boring just auto attacking. So im looking forward to seeing what the greatsword brings.
Warrior GS 2 != mobility in any way shape or form. Neither does Guardian GS 2. The only mobility-themed GS is Ranger and that was still meh to me (might mostly attribute said meh to the fact I really don’t like pets being required for the class).
because warrior GS 3 and 5 is not enough mobility? so you want 100% mobility on a weapon and 0% damage? seems legit, bringing up Guardian and Warrior GS2. Your points are bad
They aren’t going to remove attunements, that’s a staple mark of the ele. What I see happening, like with most classes, and like they stated, a few new traits, a few new utility skills, and a new weapon. That is it. Nothing massively changing like some of the outrageous ideas I have seen on some of these threads.
I sure hope not. This game needs less weapon swapping, not more. It’s an awkward mechanic, as far as MMOs go. The idea of swapping weapons to keep yourself relevant based on what is going on around you is okay. Unfortunately, it seems like usually the only thing weapon swapping is for is to keep using your longer cooldowns, regardless of the situation. I suppose that’s the downside of every game that’s based solely on cooldown, not resource.
After reading your comments across the ele forums, i feel like you have never actually played GW2.
People who speed level aren’t going to have as good a grip on the class, and especially not as good a grip on the more unusual skills.
not true, its probably even quicker to grasp the class instantly at 80, with gear, and being able to test all the skills and traits; while you are busy leveling from level 1. Enjoy that
TbH I put out more DpS and might stacks with D/F in PvE. I never use the staff because it is less exciting, and less blast finishers for me to work with. Also less damage when compared to a D/F combination. S/D is also a good combo.
Just drink in the fact that we could possibly be duel wielding swords in the future. Who would want this, and if you don’t like this idea, what new weapons would you like to see for the ele in HoT?
From what I have been reading on these forums. The Thief has literally been nerf’d into the ground and unplayable in PvP.
You are right, the game is full of easy mode AoE and CC, Condi builds etc that deal way more damage than a skill shot like back stab. I think if you are wanting a melee play Warrior, if you want a stealth toon play Ranger. Thief is dead.
Wait, what? Ez mode? I wonder who has ez mode. If you want to find out who has it “easy” play my zerker staff ele full of AoE and CC and I’ll play your thief build. We will see who has it “easy” when I can reset all the fights I want, flee without possibly being caught and start any fight with a 50% head start on life points because I destroyed that much of your life pool before you even knew I was there…
That post is just ridiculous. I can understand some frustration after some nerfs but this is just shameful.
You do know that in the current Meta there are a lot of ez mode builds? Did he call out your specific Staff Ele build?(who would consider playing staff ele in a spvp environment anyway) No. He was pointing out the many ez mode builds out there compared to the current thief meta. Thief is in a decent spot, it just requires more skill than other Professions builds at the moment. Instead of buffing thief, builds such as the spammy grenade, bomb, turret engis need to be looked at, as well as the ranger LB/GS. Thief can beat these builds, in the hands of the right player. We dont need a cheesy build or buff that creates one, thief should always remain a class that demands tact and skill.
Air and fire sigils shouldn’t exist in my opinion either. However, while some classes like engineer become over the top with incendiary powder other classes NEED air/fire to even compete. Both should be removed and skills should be balanced around that change in order to achieve balance.
As for Dota 2 and GW2 banning, there are 100’s of heroes in Dota 2, but only 8 in GW2. That means that instead of banning entire profs (which is ridiculous) banning a build or certain traits, whatever, would allow for a similar comparison.
As for balancing I believe it should be balanced around PvP but all things need to be considered. 1 v 1s will happen, 2 v 2s will happen, 3 v 3s will happen, maybe even 4 v 4s but rarely will 5 v 5s happen in competitive games. Sure, these changes will affect WvW and PvE but PvE can be balanced via changing enemy NPC or environmental mechanics. WvW is just Zerg v Zerg and changes in PvP won’t have a dramatic effect on the GWEN meta.
Balancing a game around 1v1’s and 2v2’s is a ridiculous concept and impossible to do. That is 8 different 1v1’s to consider, with multiple possible builds. Sorry but if you have ever worked on a team designated to balancing a game, that is asking too much. Also to ask Anet to change the entire PvE build that is currently in place, to satisfy your personal needs for counterplay to two specific class/builds, is another outrageous concept. Should they even consider overhauling the entire build in place, should they have to do it again once a new meta build is discovered to be very strong? Outrageously selfish ideas, there is no sweeping change that can be made to completely balance any game. There are certain match ups, based on classes and builds, that are impossible to win against for the average player. Thats just how any competitive game is. Once you can accept that, you will become a much stronger gamer overall.
I’d join you guys, however D/P is only a build for beginner thieves and I would be playing a better one.
I think youre all looking too much into this, nothing is dead or dying
I just saw the Season Two Second Half announcement, and it worries me a little (and Im a huge fan/proponent of this game).
It is starting to look more and more like Season Two will just be the new maps and the single player instances.
Comparing the 20 episodes of Season 1 (per Anet’s Web site) against the, most likely, eight or so episodes of season two (assuming we are mid way through), there are a lot of things missing, most notably -
- Small Scale Dungeons (Canach, Molten Facilities, Aetherblade Retreat, Toxic Hybrid, Scarlett’s Playhouse)
- New Dungeon Path (Twilight Assault)
- Large scale world events (Tower of Nightmares/Scarlett’s Invasions Across Maps/Marionette/Escape from LA/Recapturing LA)
- New Massive World Bosses (upgraded Tequatl and Triple Threat)
- Minigames
- Fractals
- Guild MissionsI really like the new single player instances, but they dont achieve what we have come to expect from the game.
If the second half of season two plays out similar to the first, I will play (and probably enjoy) the content for a short time, but I will be extremely disappointed.
Season One saw some truly epic and world changing events. Season two feels really bland so far in comparison. I may be surprised by the second half, but I do worry the game is taking a direction that downplays epic changes just because a few people on the forums worried about the permanence of season 1.
Why are you already complaining when the season is not even over yet? There is much more to come, and some of the things you listed may be portions of what is released. You logically cannot say you are disappointed with the entire season, when it is not even over yet. It does seem like there has been a huge pause on living story but thats because there was..for wvw season. So of course with the pause there will be less chapters of story, that build up to the finale. No way you can be disappointed with something that has not even been released yet.
I’m sorry but in no way would that idea of a duelist work. Hilarious to see, but would never be practical
How old are you? 21
What is your IGN? M R Stabby
What are your mains? Thief, Warrior, Necro, Guardian (emphasis on the thief)
Are you able to compete and play in LAN events in the USA and across the globe? Yes
Can you play the hours that I have listed, and if not, when can you play? Yes
Do you have access to teamspeak 3 and do you have a fully working headset to be able to communicate with? Yes
Can you compete in online tournaments on the weekends/weekdays? (weeklies, tournaments) Yes
What makes you stand out from other players that will be applying for the same spot you are applying for? I consider myself a good player, and I am always improving. That’s what I believe makes me stand out from everyone else. Players that think they do not need to learn anything new, or that the current meta is the only meta. In a game like Guild Wars 2 the meta is always changing, and a competitive player needs to be flexible and innovative in order to compete at the highest level. I am also a very competitive individual. I do not let pressure get to me, and I am not a sore loser, but I love to win. I’ve followed esports for quite awhile, and I believe that Guild Wars 2 could possible make a move into popularity, but it’s going to take better broadcasting, and also promotion by the players. I think that we could accomplish this with this new team. That’s what makes me stand out from other applicants. That and I play a mean thief.
I’d be interested in joining up with ya’ll. I primarily play a thief with multiple builds. Thief is by far my best class, but I also have a Necro and Guardian that I am somewhat familiar with. Message me in game if you would like to talk more.
The Thief in Gw2 does not operate like the stealth classes in other games you are probably used to. That being said, the Thief’s stealth mechanics in Gw2 are amazing and provide for some great combos in PvP and PvE
[FIRE] is such a great community! They bring the pain in WvW and area blast to run with. All around great players, in all aspects of the game. They truly represent what a PvX Guild should be.
I like how this guild sounds. I’ve been trying to get into contact with a member for about a day or two. I just came back to GW2 and been looking for a relatively small guild with mature players and values. Who should I talk to about joining?
All I hear is a bunch of whining and complaining. That’s all I ever hear on any of the profession forums. Necro’s have their own strengths and weaknesses just like every other profession. If you can’t deal with their weaknesses by playing to their strengths then go roll something easier.
Another thing;
Who ever said that a Necro is only a “vampire” like being?? Tired of people complaining about what a necro should be, instead of enjoying what it is in GW2. You can be a Necromancer who enjoys summoning the dead, or one that enjoys plagues and DoTs in the form of conditions, and even for you vampire fans you can play a build that siphons health. Stop complaining and ranting about what your view of a necromancer should be in GW2. There are multiple ways to play a Necro, with their own strengths and weaknesses; some playstyles have a higher skillcap to master, and if you can’t figure it out look for help, ask around, or roll a different character. So tired of seeing multiple threads on all the profession forums that only rant and complain; want your experience to get better? Better it yourself by learning and investing time, not everything is going to be given to you easily.
These changes to Dhuumfire are going to hit a couple builds very hard. I disagree with the changes because I don’t see how this change would make sense, and how this change brings balance. Other areas could use some help like minion master and the vampiric build, but converting the current Dhuumfire trait into this new one does not make sense to me. The build most complained about with the necro is the fear, condi bomb build. But just like any other classes most “annoying” build it has its ups and downs. Necromancer is already an underplayed profession, and I don’t think this change to Dhuumfire will take the profession anywhere progressive.
All I am hearing is ranting about condition damage being able to tick and do damage without los, and that it is easy to do? Keeping conditions up on a target requires some skill, but having the option to be a condi build increases choices on playstyle for a player. Every game has its DoT classes; We don’t want the game to be completely centered around power stacking builds do we? No of course not, conditions are in a good place at the moment and should not be messed with. Every profession has its own way of dealing with conditions. It’s always going to be the same tradeoff; if you focus on condition defense, you’re going to lack in another area. It’s basic economics applied to profession balance.
