Playing Revenant was fun until I had to start sliding around on a giant, flashing coaster.

I understand that you wanted an easily identifiable indicator for the player and their allies, but I don’t see why that is necessary. It’s not like PS warriors wrap themselves up in giant posters of a bicep. Regular auras were even changed to reduce screen clutter, so why make the herald aura so unnaturally vibrant?

Maybe it’s because I didn’t play GW1 and don’t have any prior understanding of glint, but the current effect looks really out of place and goofy.

No it doesn’t. And you might be sliding around on the ground because instead of looking at what is around you, you are focusing on the ground. Maybe thats why you keep getting knocked down?

You know that as long as you take the herald trait line, you can slot whatever Legends you want and you still have access to the Facet of Nature? You don’t have to slot Glint as long as you have the herald trait line.

I see what youre saying, there is definitely some build diversity, but very much like other classes there are “meta” builds that are sought after as the best for certain areas of content. This is something all classes face, and have faced since gw2 inception. But the meta changes, sometimes slowly, or drastically like the release of HoT and the sudden viability of Reapers =D. If your aim is to just have fun, go off and make some fun and unique builds. There are so many different stat templates in armor, and revenants have some interesting skill lines. Just go for it!

Literally if you just strafe you avoid its damage. Dont even need to dodge, unless you are point blank in which case it wont hit as hard.
Easy to avoid and not even the scariest thing coming from a WvW zerg.

Also who cares that mallyx doesn’t have a stun break when Glint does? Every legend can’t do everything.

As someone who plays spvp in the higher MMR bracket, against people that know how to focus targets, you are often times food in teamfights while you’re in mallyx. The skills are powerful to be sure, but the total lack of active defenses make it very difficult to survive focus fire in mallyx. You essentially become a necromancer without death shroud. That’s not good. Mallyx is strong in 1v1s, which aren’t really part of the meta right now because the expansion has much stronger teamfighters, favoring two point plays instead of three point plays, so you won’t 1v1 as much as you hope you would.

Don’t get me wrong, I want build diversity more than anything. But I’m finding it very difficult to run anything besides glint/shiro, but there are amulets besides marauder that can work well if not better, even if they use the same legends since the other ones just struggle in pvp.

Malyx gives you better survivability in an actual high tier match because you can completly mitigate conditions while at the same time you can run Glint and decimate foes.

Shiro/Glint gets torn up by conditions very easily.

Berserker - Why its good

The matter of the fact is that berserker supporters can preach as much as they want but they are unable to actually SHOW that berserker works. I can sprinkle pink frosted words on a kitten elite spec but that doesn’t make it any better.

What makes you so special that people making berserker builds would share the builds they worked on to make? If you cannot make one yourself, dont get mad when people who can don’t want to share their builds with you.

Like what kind of logic is that.

Am I the only one that thinks Berserker is an awesome elite specialization? All I see on warrior forums nowadays is complaining and “RIP Warrior” threads. I still think Warriors are awesome and the Berserker playstyle is fun as all kitten!

Many of the grandmaster traits need to be looked at to be more in line with other classes.

Provide examples instead of blanket statement. IMO there is only one grandmaster trait that could be looked at in all of the trees. Revenants are more than in line with other classes, if not way better.

Mallyx couples beautifully with Glint. I dont see how you could think otherwise. Mallyx traits allow me to completely ignore conditions, which is great for the current condi meta in wvw and pvp. Pairing with Glint it becomes a great combination. I like the fact that Mallyx can still be used on a power revenant and be really useful. I do miss being able to copy conditions with his ult, but I think the 10% to stats and pulsing torment is a fair enough tradeoff, if the GM trait was changed to 50% chance instead of 25%.

Corruption traitline is also great atm. Revenants dont really need any buffing or major changes.

They still seem to toggle off when you level scale. So far I haven’t seen any patches today, sadly.

Well i don’t think myself that this i the reason for the class being broken. The actual reason to the class seems a little incomplete is because corruption traitline and mallyx lgend, Retribution traitline and Jalis and a bit of Ventari legends who are incomplete compared to Shiro/Glint. Making you stuck in power build.

There is nothing keeping you stuck in a power build but yourself. The corruption line is actually very strong for not only condi builds but power builds as well. Same with Malyx. Ventari’s tablet also has a lot of good uses, and jalis is useful as well. You just need to actually take an in depth look at the class and not bandwagon.

If the Revenant can’t use Racial skills, THEN IT’S BROKEN. It’s just that simple.

If Racial skills won’t work with the Revenant then that’s something they should have thought about before they began creating it. Like, If they had an idea for a profession that couldn’t go under water, it should never be created until they had a way for it to go under water. It’s the exact same here, If an idea for a profession IS MISSING A CORE GAME AND PROFESSION MECHANIC, then they shouldn’t create it. When that have it sorted, create away.

ADDED: As a point, I did actually play the Revenant in the betas but just assumed that the racial skills would be added for release. Like obviously, its racial skills, the profession wouldn’t be complete without them.

Timeout did you really just say that racial skills are a core game and profession mechanic??

When I have a crap day, I look at every class forum and read how everyone thinks their class is just so bad and in the worst spot and is the “red headed stepchild” of Anet. And then I realize that crap must be pretty balanced if everyone thinks they’re equally in a bad spot. LMAO

If the new trait lines were never labeled as “Elite” I think people wouldn’t of had high expectations for their class’s elite to become “THE META”.

I don’t mind if people like it, but the fact that it clashes with some of my personal appearance choices, then limits the skins and colours I choose. I don’t like that. If Anet never put it in, no one would care.

Game aint just about you bro.

Its a unique part of being a revenant that needs to stay. Just like the element attunement of eles or the constant aegis of the guardian, or the shatter effects of the mesmers clones and weapons. Its a unique part of the class that should remain. If the minimal hand glows are affecting your style this choice you should check your priorities.

Funny, almost every single PvPer I know hates Courtyard.

No he means actual PvPer because Courtyard was dumb. You could just switch to certain builds and dominate other teams. Besides there are Guild Halls now with arenas. Courtyard was the least played map in unranked so it made sense to remove it.

To all the people saying double dodge, lol. They have other good damaging skills, what are we supposed to do against those now that 2 whole dodges where spent on one skill? What are necros supposed to do for the 10 seconds where they don’t have dodges anymore? Also, 1vs1s are relevant in pvp, and should be considered for balance. I’m not saying rev as a whole is OP, but skills that deal this much damage, even if only in 1vs1, and provide you with no options other than double dodge, block, or invuln on a 12 second cd aren’t well implemented.

I’d be all for the damage going back up, damage going up in multi-target situations, and/or the initial cast being made instant if it meant I could actually punish for using the skill improperly.

I bet you stand in a Warriors Hundred Blades then complain about how much Damage it does.

I just double dodge the rev’s sword 3 skill since its only way to do damage.

Uhm, hammer and staff don’t deal dmg? Then those 5k+ hits must be imagination i guess …

Staff 5 was the only hard hitting staff ability and it has been adjusted to do lower damage. “nerfed”

Revs are not overpowered, they are actually quite balanced people just havent played against them enough.

UA is easy to dodge as it has a blatant wind up animation.
Glints Heal also has a bright animation and Qs you to stop smashing your head against your keyboard with the Rev targeted. (Stop attacking)

Glints heal is actual trash if no one attacks during it. Condis can absolutely wreck any power revenant. Revenants are in a very good spot atm as well as a lot of other classes and specs.

Its almost 100% a l2play issue for most people since the new elite specs and their playstyles are new to a lot of people. I should say its a learn to experience wrather than a l2play really.

I personally use Glint =/Malyx and Malyx actually does good damage in power build and helps me survive conditions.
I just wish the Glint heal wasnt nerfed to 3s. Other than that I really like my Glint/Malyx build.

Are you guys high? Increase energy cost won’t do any better then 5 seconds CD, it will only hinder your combat ability
You don’t want your gap closer to be gated behind heavy energy cost since all your offensive and defensive skills also use it.
You won’t spam your gap closer anyway, just when you want to abuse/exploit it for fast traval or make fun of a running thief.
i would rather have the energy cost decrease in compensate for the CD, so i can have more energy whenever i gap close to either damage or if needed run away

there’s no energy management bs, if you increase PT energy to 30, whenever you use it, you naturally has 10 energy less, the more you use it the less energy you will have compare to before, which means you will take longer to use other skills, energy management won’t magically make appear all the energy lost…you are bond to have less energy for other skills in the same time frame, which eventually will hinder your combat ability
and why in the world do you want to spam your gap closer anyway…that’s just l2p issue unless you are chasing a running thief or exploiting for map travel

GW Skill-Class Balance is Terrible

It feels like everything has to be re-balanced from scratch.

Really? I think some small balance tweaks here and there and then everything will be spot on.

It’s true that some nerfs (DH damage or CC, some aspects of Tempest sustain and Scrapper boonfest, the Rev 7k evade nuke, and TBD on Reaper, to name a few), and buffs (I’m looking at zerker warrior, base thief, fixing the long list of base-class ranger issues, for example) are probably needed, but in truth I’m impressed at how balanced the game is right out of HoT release. With only minor tweaks to a handful of skills/traits/classes, things could be nigh perfect!

Just FYI, Unrelenting Assault on the Revenant will only do 7k if;
You are alone and are not a pet class,
You dont just dodge its completely obvious animation,
The Revenant is full glass.

Base Ranger gets a lot of good play at high tiers (Their condi potential and sustain is very strong)
Same with Base Thief

All of what you listed is more of a player experience issue. Some things are still new to people who havent really looked at what all the elite specs can do.
Seems more of a learn to play issue really,
Game is pretty balanced as it is, every class can play multiple roles if they wanted to.
Build diversity is better than ever.

I did Torn from the Sky with a friend. When we finished I clicked to accept to progress and clicked the exit instance door above the map. I was ported back into SW; not into Maguuma. I got credit on my story journal however there is a Cross across the portal into Maguuma from Silverwastes and nothing is happening when I walk up. I am unable to progress now. Please Help

I dont call a +30% total stat difference a “balance”. Balance would be no total stat differences. If i want to play with spreaded stats, it shouldn’t give me a superiority to the opponent.

I would definitely support this but not with racial skills;
some revenant neutral utilities would be cool to see and create more build diversity, skills that would not be based on channeling a legend but rather skills based on using the mist.
Thats not to say that I dont like the current way revenant works: I absolutely love it, I just think that this is a cool idea and would make sense.

My question is whether or not at launch I will be able to just ignore one of the trait lines in favor of saving my hero points in order to unlock Herald?

i.e. I use my Tomes to instantly hit 80, will I be able to ignore certain trait lines that I am not interested in using in order to unlock the Herald Elite Spec without having to farm up Hero points?

This shouldn’t even be an issue in the fist place. There’s no reason arbitrarily remove something all classes have.

The necromancer's raiding role

Let’s assume for a second the blanket statement of “literally anything a Necro can do, another class can do better” is true. What are those classes that are filling the Necro’s shoes for each role doing besides said role? Is there still merit to bringing a Necro because the Necro can have pretty high effectiveness across multiple roles at once, reducing the number of slots required to fulfill a set of roles to 1 instead of 2+? What benefit does that bring?

Also, you don’t have to apologize for having the opinion that Necro is a jack of all trades. I’ll accept your apology though if you think your opinion is infallible. There’s no reason why each class can’t submit feedback in each realm of GW2 in order to ensure their class is useful and fun. To say a class should abandon hope in one realm because they excel in another is defeatist and unhealthy for the future of the game.

The real problem comes with how this is all setup. For an optimized group you want a PS warr, a tank guard, although any class can do this role really you most likely want a tough class that can also buff really well, thus bunker guard makes logical sense. Finally, you want a healer, which currently druid is the best.

What does that leave us with? Needing dps, sadly… The imbalance in numbers is large enough that there isn’t a reason to NOT run the highest dps classes. Also, in the Vale Guardian fight you need condi damage. So of course people will stack condi engi’s.

Necro can’t take any of those roles besides tank, but they aren’t the optimized choice for even tanking. We can’t group stack might so we can’t replace the PS warr, we can’t heal so replacing druid won’t happen. This is the problem, in the end we have one role and that’s dps. According to the raid that downed him they had nearly a minute left on the timer, which means If it doesn’t get nerfed we’ll need optimized group dps to make it. Don’t forget, Vale Guardian is the FIRST BOSS.

Back on subject, to the OP… This has been gone over a thousand times and It’s beating a dead horse at this point. Necros have never been very good at condition damage, Reaper might help it out but the gap between us and a condi eng is too large.

I truly hope something will change during raids or they’ll make us more powerful. It’s just really hard when you have a mechanic like DS that basicly goes completely against the design of the game.

The rotation showed in this chart is pretty easy to pull off even when in danger. Engineers just have better condi damage than a necro at this point in time. They can also pull off that condi damage with good upfront damage as well. Unfortunately everything a necro could potentially bring to a raid, another class can bring and do it much better. Now does that mean raids are going to be “everything but necro gtfo”; No i do not think so.
But to say that a Necro can do all these roles greatly is just not true. Literally anything you said a necro could do? another class can do the same but better.

Sorry but its true. Be happy that Necros are extremely strong in WvW and reaper is going to see a ton of use in PvP. We can’t all have everything. =/

Let me remind everyone that this game is not balanced around 1v1’s.

Anything can beat anything else with proper skill, timing, and knowledge.

Revenant is in a good place and it will be exciting with all the other profession changes to see where the meta is taken
