What a garbage server Borlis Pass is. I was having loads of fun from Friday-Sunday when the scores for all 3 servers were within 100s/1000s of points and it was an extremely fair match – one of the fairest in a while

Then Sunday night/Monday morning comes.

All 3 maps are capped. Borlis Pass is 20k ahead of everyone else. What a PoS server. You ruined a potentially great match up by PvDing all night. Hope you had fun for 2 days that it was actually fun.

There won’t be any challenge at all from here on out from Devona’s Rest or Ehmry Bay. You completely demoralized both servers by showing how “superior” you are by attacking empty forts all night. You were one of my favourite servers to fight in a while and then you destroy any integrity you had in one night.

How many days until reset? Oh yeah – 5. Watch how little challenge there will be from now until reset now that no one stands a chance at winning but Borlis Pass. The same challenge that was there from Friday-Sunday will no longer be present.

Great match so far this week. Lots of tactics being used out there and well executed with the proper amount of tightness. Plenty of combat happened at the camp. Red, Blue, and Green are in for the long haul.

I’m almost positive that the game plan was supposed to be Borlis plays it “cool” for a few days and then surprise us with an “unforeseeable” spike in activity unsettling the whole dynamic of the mach, sending Ebay into a tailspin to third and asking DR for an Alliance that we agree to. But with our fingers crossed. Right near the End of the match we were supposed to get a majority of both servers players banned by falsifying hack reports so nobody can play, thus making the numbers equal and we win because of nothing more than good old fashion East Coast tactics.

I think you guys are a bunch of deal breakers and that’s far less honorable than night capping. jerks.

I mentioned Zerg and I believe it surely does have purpose and meaning in WvW. I’m not anti-zerg at all. I’m anti “only do it one way” I’ll zerg, when the time is right. I will not “Rally” to go take a supply camp.

I’m not too sure what you mean about the leaving/staying in a tower bit. I may not be aware of what that conversation is about. I believe that every moment we are in has multiple ways to react to it. Knowing there is more than one option is only the first step. Knowing those options is another. Knowing when to use them, and which best suites an individual situation is the real trick.

Staying in a tower, leaving a tower, not going to a tower, attacking a tower; there are lots of who’s, what’s and how many’s that could call for each decision above for the same exact tower at any given moment. – Generality’s don’t work too well in WvW

That being said. I literally counted Someone in Voice say, “all we need to do is throw more people at them” 7 times in two play sessions. That’s specific, and not right.

I don’t think it’s all trolls. More than anything else, I feel like lot’s of players are only able to imagine one way to do something and that’s where it stops. If you give someone like this a commander tag, guess what they are going to do? Their single trick.

similar to someone’s post above, I feel WvW has lot’s of room for lot’s of play styles; Small Man, Zerg, Solo Roam, or whatever your flavor. If someone is unable to see this then I feel trying to show them is a waste of time, especially online of all places.

Each playstyle is it’s own respective WvW tool. If all you have in your tool box is a hammer and you can eventually get a nail in some wood, you ain’t a carpenter. A screwdriver isn’t going to help replace that pipe under the sink by itself. I’m not sure how someone could think only one PvP option is viable.

Once that get’s understood will you actually be able to teach someone what a lathe is. Then someday if they are as talented as they like to think, perhaps they too will assemble a balsa-wood computer table and use BOTH tools it came with.

2 tools? 3? that wrench screwdriver key thing… is that one or two tools? do you count the item or it’s intended use?

DR needs to take a page from this, and realize that not everyone should be part of the main front of the zerg, we do need to leave others behind to defend things.

This one item causes more internal strife on DR than anything else. zerg zerg zerg is the answer for many. why send 5 people to take a camp when 20+ can. in 6 min after the camp is capped, those 20 people are somewhere else while it is getting taken back too.

I got to interact with an amazing member of AoD a few times over the last week and it has been fantastic to share a map with him. Good ol’ Bela from AoD is a fortification hero and another amazing commander to work with. ( I don’t know if Bristol is AoD, I think she is, but I only hear her, never see her lol)

Here are a few fantastic things this DR member does while he is helping a map.
1. He dedicated his primary efforts to something specific, and he sticks to it.
2. He doesn’t expect everyone else on the map to do everything for him
3. He communicates clearly, with detail, and considers more than what his focus is on.
4. He asks for help, he doesn’t demand
5. He send’s / request’s help tailored to what needs helping.
6. He considers multiple objectives.

Anti siege treb set up in DRB to take out out Hills treb on SE tower. he doesn’t call for a zerg of 20 people to take it out. Instead sends a single scout, and with communication between that scout and Hills the treb was taken out. Our forces still out dealing with more important stuff.

He remindes his people to upgrade, and to keep eyes on the upgrades. He know’s the best way to stop someone from taking a tower with nobody in it is to upgrade it. He pays for a lot of these upgrades himself. quite the opposite of some of the excuses I hear for ignoring a tower post-zerg-flip.

He and Bristol BOTH would run off to other locations to put silver into it for fortification. Sadly, they can’t be on every map making sure things are actually working right. I know it’s not only them who does this. But there sure are more people not doing it than doing it.

I just read on a website that Anet is adding in an achievement for culling AND zerg size. There is supposedly and Easter egg set up to give you a non combat piece of clothing if you get both to go off at the same time.

When I was in high school my friends and I had a contest to see how could go the longest without a shower and still score. – That was not me, it was Motley Crue.

I used to work with someone who had a fat fold on the back of their neck. When this person looked down you could see caked dirt and who knows what else was in there. This person also constantly smelled of half dry clothing that sat in the washer for a few days before getting tossed into the dryer. – also true.

Great weekend. Friday night was a sexy fun time out in IoJ with TBE, Fire, FOCK, Flow, and SKY to name a few . I had to log somewhat early but before I logged it looked DR had a nice firm grip on all 4 maps!

A few highlights for me was popping a break out as ADQQsty began hitting NW gate on bay, while DDLG started a push on the SE of bay/supported the third guild who began a move on Hills all at the same time ( I can’t recall who it was.)

Yesterday morning I popped into a map and asked if any small teams needed another and I got an invite to a grp with two DDLG and Phlogustus. We ran wild for quite some time, but then.. I don’t know who got a wild hair and suggested we try to ninja Bay from the NW gate. By then we had picked up Lion from [RGTG] and a few other people who happened by during our mischievous travels. I Think we were up to 7 when we began the initial push. We made it to the top step of the lord room before we were met with any actual resistance. I would guess that by that time we were closer to 10 people.

I honestly thought we had bay until we were forced back to the water. Even during the fallback to inner gate I think we were easily at 2 or 3: 1 and we spiked a good number of reds before falling. Lots of real nice fights out there with you all.

No developer would say an item is “best-in-slot” unless mathematically it provides a boost to your character, to a group, or to a raid over the course of time.

If the developer actually meant, “Best-in-slot” as a cosmetic item, that would be the dumbest statement a developer can give over a topic of item progression.

There for, you have to rule out that a Legendary is a Cosmetic.

You can argue all you want but clearly you are missing the point.

I feel like best in slot in GW2 isn’t the same idea as, say, WoW. for example, you can get a staff a few ways, but the exotics are all going to have the same min/max no matter how you acquire them. they are all best in slot. if you ad a legendary skin to that it will remain best in slot.

unless the precurser gets bumped up a quality level, I read this as you can move the skin to the next level and it will still be best in slot.

I almost read that like they were trying to reassure players that their efforts are not wasted.

like when WoW does an expansion, all your epic gear is replaced by greens. – I felt they were trying to quell that concern.

well, if new gear comes out, and you get a new great sword, then put your legendary skin on it, won’t it be best in slot? How would a legendary be better than a freshly released piece of gear with better stats unless it auto scales. Did Anet say that legendary weapons will auto scale?

I’m not sure how new gear cant be better than a legendary with out the transfering skin/stats.

Well I for one am going to miss DR and IoJ. It’s been fun getting intimate with you party people. IoJ, Im still baffled as to how you guys field so many lowbies… Lowbies everywhere in WvW. And DR… There were times when you would be straight push overs, and then suddenly and seemingly out of nowhere you come back in a steroid and Redbull fueled rage and take over everything… All in all it’s been fun. Shout outs to AD/QQ/Sty, RegA, and SoCo for putting up some good fights. IoJ, the only guild i can recall off the top of my head is MoW because of them annoying thieves always running around trying to poke me…

I see this point, but I have been feeling like the best matches will not be only one tier, but a cluster of servers 4,5,6, or 7, who have similar populations. servers should be able to move up and down tiers without it causing a complete disruption for multiple tiers.

I think transfers would be more effective if we had a better idea of the populations outside of High and Very High. when dealing with 24 servers in a 8 tier competition they need more population information than High. If the 8 servers listed as high were actually close in population wouldn’t there be more movement between the lower tiers?

Visually I see the whole tier system like a lava lamp. you have high pop servers at the top, low at the bottom, and the middle where the two colors combine is where the most closely populated servers come together. unfortunately, the Highest High population server has far more people than the lowest High population server.

whats worse is at the bottom tier of the Very High pop servers, their lowest population server is fighting against High population servers and nobody at all actually knows what the real population differences are.

I think things could straighten out a little more if players had more detail.

A single tier can have its top team removed from a fall, or it’s bottom team removed because of a gain in tiers outside the match.

For whatever reason my server (isles of Janthir) has been getting completely and utterly destroyed on WvW at the hands of EB and DR. It honestly is not even that fun because the other servers greatly outnumber us. Will there be server switches to put the weaker servers vs the weaker servers and stronger vs stronger? When can we expect an update for this?

I think there are quite a few tiers that have the issue that we are having tbh. I think one thing Anet should do is color code the populations at the server selection screen so when looking at a high pop server you can tell that the population falls between X and Y or C and D and so on. there are like 8 servers listed as “high” population, but I’m not seeing much match up shifting happening which makes me think that there are still pretty large population differences between the servers marked as “high”

DR and Ioj are both listed as High, but if one of us went down to T8 and fought the 3rd and 2nd place servers there, who is also listed as “high” pop we would both feel like Ebay does against us.

I bet if we had a better idea of what servers populations were sitting around tiers and matches may make a little more sense.

When Ebay moves up, another server with similar population comes down. IOJ is going to need to sink another tier to really get out of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd type of stalemate we are currently in/ at … whatever tier we are in atm. 5?

an player who play for fun , will not be dedicated to his team ,he will not sit at an treb for 20 minutes hitting same wall.

This isn’t a play to win or a play for fun mindset. This is an individual thing. There are people who like the siege game and some who dont on both sides of the Fun/win argument. just like there are people who like to fortify and people who don’t. people who like to zerg and people who don’t. I think too many people feel that their source of entertainment should be everyone’s and that will never be the case.

I’m not a play to win only type. but If i am needed on a treb, i’ll do it just like a lot more play for fun folks I know.

Your goal is to get points. The fun is the combat that occurs trying to get more points and preventing the opponents from getting theirs.

I don’t see how they are possibly mutually exclusive at all.

You can have both, but you can have neither in addition to only having one or the other.

It is a week long competition and the final score does represent something, but I don’t think it represent’s everything. I have zero control over what goes on in WvW when I am not logged in, there is nothing I can do about thin populations, or night capping so I try not to allow those two factors to decide how I am effected or weigh my personal victories. when playing a server with vastly higher population, or “off peak” coverage or both, your server is more than likely in a situation that it will not win the week, but I fail to let that allow me to feel like every hour between then and reset is a loss despite what efforts are made.

I agree with the OP, there are so many different things you can do out in WvW and I feel like each and every conflict out there is boiled down to a win or lose situation. that’s where I keep my score.

There are nights that we can go out and stomp everything in our path. without looking at the point score, that night was a win in my book.

There are nights that we get wiped up and down the map, those nights fall under a loss, needs improvement, or learning.

There are nights that it can be a 50/50 win lose ratio. that can be a win or a loss depending on what you get out of it, imo.

none of that stuff falls into consideration when looking at the stripped down, basic, ground floor aspect of the point system, therefore I really don’t think that the score system can or should be a be all, end all for me to base my feeling towards the match for the week.

the last few weeks Ebay has been winning our match up. they have population over us and normally start the weekend off strong and maintain. i knew 3 weeks ago we would not win the week, but we had a ton of fun out there when we were online. to me, that’s the win as well.

topping off the week with a legitimate win, meaning that the match was a 3 way duke fest, is icing on the cake. Right now there are lots of population slants giving multiple servers matches against servers with many more players. and it’s extreme!

using ebay as a most current example to my circle of influence.

Ebay has the numbers in our match to withstand a lot of what DR and IoJ can toss at them across the 4 maps. the point spread by wednesday is clear that EB is going to win. but DR and IoJ and EB keep at it, the active maps are still very much active and there is a lot of great combat between the 3. but Ebay will still win the week. This does not mean that Ebay will win every fight between resets.

If Ebay moves up a tier, they will probably be close to the same position IoJ or DR is in against them this week. So how much do they really win? Anyone who has been on a server that wins by landslide knows that it really isnt much more fun than being the team who loses by a landslide. unless Anet starts manually moving players and whole guilds across the 8 tiers to level it out, this stuff is going to exist on many of the 8 tiers.

personally, the stagnation between matches is more annoying than anything else.

I suspect leveling via PvE would be faster, but unless leveling via WvWvW is like 5x slower, I don’t care much. :-)

very fun with the right peeps. I did an ele from 2-80 in WvW. I just linked up with a group be it small man or zerg and just played support the whole why up.

The only downside I saw was that you will sometimes feel like a victim, you get killed so hard. It can also slow down if the match is highly slanted in or against your favor. A match with constant combat is going to land you lots of levels.

I confronted in the TS channel when I made a first comment asking for clarity, that’s when you all shut up. Then I made a second comment to which I also received no comment. You have a funny memory.

And your wipes were nothing short of ignorant. you pulled everyone out of a tower, to go north to get supply to run back to the tower they were in in the first place. to run them into a zerg. literally face first. people in the tower had supply, but you need everyone to rally, rally rally. .rally. on me. everyone. everyone. everyone rally. at mid. on me. rally. rally. on me.

My highlight of the night before I stopped was when you just had everyone in vent sitting there with thumb in butt. some ported to middle, most dead from your second failed zerg attempt and a handful of players who actually were able to make it inside despite your mediocre efforts. That’s the point where I needed to tell you to do something. remember? “What’s your plan?”, “Well, get to it, we are standing here doing nothing” – I’m sure that escapes you too.

It was an interesting time having to deal with you. I can’t speak for the rest of SoCo cause I speak for only me. but of the last few weeks in RvR my time spent listening to you was by far the most dismal of interactions. Give me TRON, TBE, ADQQsty, wD, Harry Hellspawn, ewok, . they aren’t socially kitten and can actually play without streaming excuses for failure to achieve.

Gab, I happened across a few of your EU Vs NA posts. I was amazing to see how much more emphasis EU puts on technique over zerging. it’s too bad Americans will follow any idiot who is willing to talk really loud. I met a few of those this weekend

It’s great to play with these guys. It really is. They are good people to have fighting on your side. They kick butt, and they don’t actually need to tell anyone how good they are, they just go do it. Something I think a lot of DR could learn. I’m more and more happy to have the QQ gang settle with us and jive so well with existing talented gamers.

Well I’d say the best part of the EU server I play on currently is that there is a massive TS where EVERY guild is. I have been pushing AD a little to go on DRTS, and I know Dynnen went there last weekend, because of how much easier it is for you to communicate with us, so that we can focus our efforts accordingly instead of picking a map and then running around trying to find the enemy, when someone else could do that so easily for us.

It is ridiculously easy to shift the focus from one map to another on my EU server, because everyone is just a channel change away. That, and the open weekly meetings where anyone is free to join, plus the many guilds dedicated to coordinating WvW players, such as one for people who play in the night / early morning server time go a long way towards achieving the level of coordination I was talking about in that thread .

Great early morning run through Ebay. Zoned in, asked if anyone was out and about, and was invited to a 4 man of random peeps from [fire] [RED] [HoD] and the 4th guild escapes me, sorry.

We popped up and down the East and West and eventually made a full sweep on the south. By the time we got to the SE tower there was probably about 5 more DR peeps who joined up. 5 people. non zerg. it’s without fathom.

Man, awesome stuff last night with LOTS of awesome peeps. DRB was a blast and I thnk we did a good Job holding Ebay into the SW corner during prime. Eventually as the night went on the sides of the map began to fold in on us. I recall seeing 3 orange swords on Hills alone at one point last night. Fantastic job holding hills. Much Sexy.

Got to game with a lot of great new people last night.
