Umm ok so the last time i ever changed runes on my weapons was 3 months ago? Heck i even have leg armor in bank cause its faster to switch asc sets than double click every leg piece and choose stats/runes.

Let’s also not forget that any player that does fractals on a daily basis is drowning on asc chests, thus having a huge amount of weapons to put sigils on.

It is a QoL feature but highly overated. Most players never even change their sigils/runes until new balance patch hits (every 3-4 months).

Owning multiple sets of ascendeds is something that’s not as common as you may think at the moment. Thus, your case seems quite an extreme one.

Let’s not forget that the reasons that people do not switch runes and sigils as much as they might include the costs involved, which would be reduced significantly by the proposed change (along with the fact that runes and sigils tend to be either totally rubbish – Hello damage to specific PvE mobs – or fantastic – see: any rune or sigil worth over a gold).

Having said all of this I support the OP for none of it. Instead, I agree with him/her because consistency is important.

I suspect the developers will be gauging the level respose to such a thread as this. Obviously, there would have to be significant interest for them to begin such a project as 500 cooking …

It has been reported that on the EU side of things, a 120 person guild has moved servers, so expect a mess for at least the next couple of weeks (if 1 Up 1 Down is active, or eternity if not) in at least two tiers.

Well it’s obvious, isn’t it? Initiative allows Thieves to burst/spam most abilities like crazyfools. This includes engage/disengage.

Regen on initiative would make more sense if it were tied to them actually achieving something, or putting themselves in a risky position (like Necro has to with Life-Force), instead of having it magically return (and quickly) when they aren’t even near a fight. In this regard, the risk factor is lacking.

That’s the issue I think many people have with thief.

Thieves are forced into a trait line for more initiative. It can allow a burst, but any thief spamming initiative skills is a free kill, how are you even having a problem with thieves who spam their skills?

You tell me.

A full soldier thief (Staff/SB), contested our EBG keep close to 5 hours, we managed in that time to kill him twice, he always came to the same spot, 5 hours to him having fun and getting pips while our keep was contested, so we don’t use our WP. we had to log our thieves and follow him and among many tries we managed to kill him those couple of times, and it was a waste of time. I stayed there just watching (7+ players) following him around trying to kill him, and always failing. He does no dmg, and can’t kill anyone, but our keep WP was useless for 5+ hours, now how is that fair?
no player, no matter how skilled he is, and no matter what class he uses can kill such thief, he always run away with tons of dodges and avoidance, and then come back to the same location within seconds.

Forum-goers have suggested changes to the Objective Contesting mechanic endless times with no response from the developers. One day it will happen, we just have to wait for the right people to go through the employment turnstile.

Would make wvw exciting again, and would make winning at the end of the week mean something.

Would also be a great way to add skirmish tickets which many have been complaining about.

For posterity, let it be remembered that Tournaments and tournament rewards were the first reason we had mass server migrations. The start of something that has plagued WvW ever since and the reason I was among those who asked for paid transfers.

The topic title says it.
It will give stronger incentives for both soft/hardcore wvw players to “actively” play WvW more, rather than leave after pip track is complete.
+ No more complaints about badges are rather useless

I think this topic is about being able to instantly attain the new rewards based on previous gameplay. That’s not an awful idea by itself.

I know some dedicated players use badges to create tactics. Denying them instant access to the new rewards, rather than token hoarders seems a bad show, frankly.

The queues would be horrendous especially during NA Prime.

Linking has failed.

I want so desperately to disagree. Linking has potential to solve a lot of the population issues, but having just had a relink LAST WEEK, this happens at reset (see image). I expect better from a brand new linkage.

The server populations need to be more even, regardless of whether that means gigantic queues or not! If there are gigantic queues for all of the servers in a tier, that’s more balanced. That is more desirable than having Dominators.

One poor server has to come 2nd in this match and face these dominators again next week.

Linking, indeed, seems to have failed.

I sort of like the idea of making the winning server’s objectives worth more points to capture, as a small baby step.

I agree that there needs to be incentive, but I would argue that points aren’t an incentive.

At this stage, however, I’m delighted with everything we get – whether it helps or not.

I agree with the original poster on many of their points.
I enjoyed playing with the Quaggan pearls, but I really like the ruins in the middle of the map and think the ruins are an improvement.
Regarding the 3rd floor of smc – I have some sympathy with the OP, but I think the spoils of war are the ability to treb your towers. This ability “forces” your side to take action, but it doesn’t mean they can roll over your keep. That’s why EB is such a good design.
Disclaimer: everything in this post is my opinion – this should be everybody’s signature, I mean… What’s wrong with stating opinion as fact? That’s what makes us human.

This thread is full of great suggestions to one of the oldest and most persistent problems to plague WvW (Here are some of my thoughts on the subject; 1 2 3).
It’s wonderful to see more players recognise it.

This would make people attack those from the winning server more than the last place one.

Would the last place server’s commander keep throwing his/her lootbags at the roflstomping server for the promise of points? In all likelihood they wouldn’t collect these points anyway because they wouldn’t be able to achieve their goal because the dominant side is … the dominant side.

This is why I have developed the opinion that dynamic handicapping is the only way to achieve a semblance of balance (see my previous posts labelled 1,2 and 3 above). But it would require measuring “who is leading/losing at any one time”.

Which brings me to the question of how do you propose they measure who is leading at any one time? They’ve been unwilling or unable to create this metric thus far.

I have become a big fan of zerg gameplay over the years and I see the GW2 zerg as an ideal route for new players into learning better gameplay and tactics.

if the only successful way to enjoy yourself is to join a large zerg, or wait and hope that more players log on so you can enjoy our content, we will have failed miserably as a development team.

This is the granddaddy of WvW – he is working on another game. His idea for discouraging the zerg is to offer carrots, sticks and CCtools so that zergs can be busted by groups. I fear that this will be a mistake that will reduce his player-base significantly. It could be that only hardcore GvGs happen there.

I prefer the welcoming community-oriented zergs of GW2.

The best way to handle skill lag is to put skills with no cast time on your bar (these tend to be shouts).
It is important to note that even the smallest cast time prevent the skill from firing – so these give no benefit over longer cast times.
Sadly, even some shouts have cast times, totally negating the use of these skills in laggy environments.

  1. Alpine WvW Map
  2. Eternal Battlegrounds WvW Map
  3. Desert Borderlands WvW Map
  4. The Gilded Hollow. Lovely hidden jumping puzzle for players to rebuild in there that starts near the little dock thingy. Good luck finding the rest of it. Keep an eye out for the hidden dragon statue.
  5. Obsidian Sanctum WvW Map – yes, really!

Balance…

I believe;

  1. that it isn’t really helpful to spread the legendary gear through the various game-modes. Although I can understand that they want to promote a variety of playstyles, it means that people have to play game-modes they’re not as fond of.
  2. there will, over time, be further ways to acquire legendary gear from each of the various game-modes – thus finally allowing people to play as they like.

Matchmaking makes no sense

Its officially called the fair weather effect. last week you had an easier match so people came out to play, this week things are a little harder so people that want to k-train are not playing. People that enjoy the game mode will be out there regardless.

I would suggest that in addition, underdog servers have a really difficult time achieving things when they are out-populated and out-fought. Let’s say someone normally gives up after three wipes. Those wipes will happen much sooner when they are in a hard match.

So people aren’t doing anything different than any other week, they just give up sooner because they hit their tolerance limit sooner.

Alternative: set your options to use team colors.

I don’t mean for identification purposes during fights.

I just think it would be a neat addition if the color of the banners on the item changed to represent your server’s current color in that week’s matchup. (both inside and outside of the WvW maps)

Interesting idea, but so many fashion meta players would not be happy. Making backpieces dyeable instead would work and make everyone happy.

^^This is the logical answer, but judging from my experience there could be issues with whether or not the area of material was designated as dye-able and which material type it’s currently made from etc. It is possible that the artist considered these things when creating the item – in which case this should be a relatively easy task, or it could be that it is prohibitively expensive.

For the record, I’m a big fan of changing my colours each week (if only because I have a poor memory – don’t pretend YOU’VE never tried to walk into the wrong coloured portal on a Friday evening!).

I did a speedrun of the JP at just 4 minutes.. so technically youd be able to complete almost the entire JP with just 1 stealth fountain thingy

Do you guess your way through the dark room or do you use a torch? You need to drop the stealth thingy to carry a torch.

I dont need the torch at all anymore. i just use a certain backpiece that sheds a little bit of light around my character so i can see what im walking on.. thats enough for me.

And yea ik you need to drop stealth to get the torch but.. you know. i guess its a tradeoff. if youre good you dont need the torch but if you are new you might need it.

Here is a picture I just took of me wearing the Mad Memories Complete Edition with no light coming from it. They patched that a while back… back… ugh.. never mind.

Which backpiece do you use that sheds light while you’re in stealth?

I actually have won all matches with my necro this season. Abuse terrain, don’t try to solo classes you can’t solo, stick to the team, simple really. Also you don’t have instant cast on aoe? How come?

You can win all matches if you;

  1. concentrate on capping things that you don’t own, and,
  2. tolerate dying every time you get in a fight

Standing in circles for the win.

  3. Dry Top
  4. Straights of Devastation
  5. Black Citadel/Rata Sum/The Grove/Mount Maelstrom (all tied for 5th)

I want to go from A to B. It’s as simple as that. Obscure and annoying routes annoy me. Don’t get me wrong – I like ONE or TWO oddities per map, but not whole maps full of oddities. From a player’s perspective it feels as though the map artists are under employed and are just making them complex because they have nothing else to do!

Obsidian sanctum isn’t populated because it’s not relevant, it’s like a bad lobby. Anet needs to add something that makes a difference in WvW so players are incentivized to go there.

As we all know most players associate worth with either fun or rewards.

I’m sorry that you’re interpreting reports of voice comms as a toxic environment, but without having experienced it for yourself, I find it quite unfair for you to paint the various and different server communities with such a broad brush.

As a member of the gaming community in many, many games over the last 15 years, with many, many friends in them to tell me all about it, plus what I see in chat and, cough, forums, it’s a fair statement. If your particular TS community is pleasant and welcoming, I’m glad to hear it.

I asked people on TS about this last night and some said that PvE has far less tolerant commanders because they aren’t a community, they just hop on, say stuff and disappear – the infrequency of PvE events, the megaserver and the large PvE playerbase together mean they don’t get well known.

I’m sorry that you’re interpreting reports of voice comms as a toxic environment, but without having experienced it for yourself, I find it quite unfair for you to paint the various and different server communities with such a broad brush.

In this post you address many of the issues to do with VOIP, but you’re not entirely correct in your assertions. Here’s why;

  1. If you don’t like the manner of the discourse in VOIP, that’s a valid reason to leave and/or never join it. I can sympathise with this and understand why these people don’t join.
  2. Without voice comms, you’re going to have a significantly poorer experience in WvW. It’s as simple as that. You won’t know what’s going on and you won’t be able to react as well as those who do – Some people are better than others at coping with this, but overall I think you are more likely to be a liability if you’re not on VOIP than if you are. Having said this, I have deaf & mute friends in my guild and they did very well all things considered – I hope this doesn’t seem condescending.
  3. This is the same as 1.
  4. If you make your own squad, I hope you feel responsible for those who follow you and for their experience in the game.

I’d do it daily for a gold, but it would probably be populated – so actually fun again!

(IMO the puzzle needs a stealth bottle so we can get through the arena – the only place you can’t have the 5 mins stealth).

I mean the Arena section with the animals in it, after the dark room. You can stand at the top in the knowledge that no stealthed person will come through the room. So that particular part of the puzzle has always been troll central.
