the same two things Woe is Necro and Teef Op… and when you link the same video from 2013 to [..] justify your post in a lot of them…
Clearly, there’s some upset on your part and for this I apologise.
The vast majority of other posters are saying similar things; Woe IS Necro, and Thief IS OP. The video remains relevant to this day – it’s age is irrelevant.
I want you to know that I respect your opinion but that I find your position to be obviously untenable. Perhaps you enjoy a challenge on the forum because you don’t get one in the game.
If you want a class that looks good and feels good but isn’t good, Reaper is for you!
L2P
Well here’s the rub;
- Necros are complaining about dying a lot.
- That’s a fundamental core game mechanic that other classes aren’t complaining about.
- MO has always appeared sensitive to the feelings of his playerbase. He’s on trial now as to whether he cares about one section of his customer-base or not.
Let’s see whether Mike O’Brien cares about his work, because at the moment Reapers are a class that feels visceral, meaning they’re appealing to new players, but in reality they are a perennial victim class for McLain's favourite, the thief in particular.
Can MO force McLain to nerf his favourite class? That’s basically the guild war we’re watching unfold.
Being pro necro:
- start video recording
- go to character select screen
- delete necro
- create thief
- 11111 until necro is out of shroud
- stun it
- burn it down
- begin finisher
- teleport away
- teleport back
- throw ballista blueprint on corpse
- upload to youtube

Welcome to WvW, where earning rewards was never easy or fair.
… but at least it’s now possible.
I calculated it as 4.3 months based on 3000 tokens total.
The post I put my sums in has vanished, though.
repost with the sums you previously calculated before?
(as much as you can remember?)
~3000 tokens required
There are ~4 weeks in a month
700 tokens per month (175×4)
3000/4 = ~4.3 months
all im seeing is class favoritism
I’d love to see Karl McLain’s explanation of why [some class(es)] are stronger than others.

Sounds a lot like the Crowfall early design where the dome started as map-wide and got smaller as the game went on.
I am in two minds about it. I quite like time-gated content, to be honest.
Just blast light fields, Rolf!
Anything that encourage kills per death displays will inevitably lead to elitism and cowardice when fighting against the odds.
I dont like this idea.
This!
Yet again the developers encourage server stacking onto dominating servers. The last thing we need is rewards per kill.
I think they’d sell a LOT more if they were a reasonable price. I would be amazed if they sell any at the current price.
That sounds a lot like you do think that they’ve never considered this question, but that they suddenly will see the light now, as a result of a new thread on an old topic.
In other words, you might want to reconsider your choice of rhetoric. What price would you like to see for what functionality? What impact to the economy do you think it would have if people could more easily/cheaply recover sigils and runes from ascended gear and sigils from legendaries? Would the overall result be better for everyone? Or just for some of us?
I think we’d all use up a lot more bank slots storing expensive sigils and runes and thus have to spend even more gems buying expanders for those, too!
[stuff]… dying game.
No…wvw will settle. EOTM is not wvw and doesn’t deserve wvw reward.
^^ This. The fact that Anet finally separated a reward out is encouragement that eventually EotM will get no WvW oriented rewards at all.
I think they’d sell a LOT more if they were a reasonable price. I would be amazed if they sell any at the current price.
Upgrade Extractors are priced wrongly. I politely suggest that someone at the company should pay some attention to this.
There is 1 ability for 1 class I did forget to mention that I will never say is not broken and definitely needs to be fixed in pvp and that is the mesmers moa morph, I have never played a game, where another class can morph you into some useless creature, and you still take full damage from it.
cough WoW cough
I agree with the OP, however rambling his post. It’s all true! But don’t expect any fixes anytime soon because … [favourites]
(edited by Svarty.8019)
Aren’t the t1 weapons available through the reward track?
Instantly buying 12 weapons or grinding 12 tracks? Which would you prefer?
Why did anet not give players a heads up on this change? Fact is, they did. They said the weapons would still be there.
Are they going to correct the problem? Apologize for the mistake?
Read the Op again Anet said the Mistforged weapons would be in the Vendor. Since that was the only weapons being asked about….
I know what was said. Anet needs to fix this on a per player basis or give a reason why they did not give us advance notice.
This is a real non-issue. Just play the game, have fun, eventually stuff arrives in bags. Win win!
it’s better than waiting on Anet to balance things…. (don’t hold your breath)
If ever there was a challenge for McLain and Chronacher to rise to, this is it!
What about all the rest?
If you’re trying to make me say they aren’t important, I’m going to disappoint you.
I wanted to cover the core of WvW for new players. I think I’ve done that.
being in combat reset from 2500 range to a physical hit.
^^ This. Range is really important for losing combat.
old players, that quit WvW (and even GW2) for good due to the lack of appeal in WvW “Guild Wars” will not come back because of a “personal reward” system.
I would contest this because although it would not bring back everybody, it might bring back people would play for the backpack. And others might return because of their friends returning, not the personal rewards.
I’ve already witnessed the return of at least one influential old guild leader.
Yeah, I just got 52 stacks of bleed in half a second.
For the love of god Anet, give the game a chance, BALANCE IT SEPARATELY!!
Well you are returning player so you probably have some l2p issues. Weird thing is that i never get these kind of stacks. Do you just run straight in red circles or something or do that follow commander thing that is so 2014.
lol he would have died way before reach 50 stack XD, last time i got was arround 20 of several condis in a second…. used my shout that removed all condis to me… how clever of Anet make one shout being auto suicide button…. for the caster.
I was on a tanky reaper, so I didn’t die instantly.
And it was 52 stacks.Did you get enough time to send them to an enemy, though?
No, I only had time to lose 2 health bar and die.
I wasn’t even using plague singet, so it’s not like I was drawing all the condi on to me
That’s my point.
The whole of competitive play in GW2 looks like it was supposed to be about dodging well telegraphed attacks, with lots of counter play and long fights.
Sadly the system has failed since day one because players learned to eliminate the counter-play aspect via spike/burst rotations. This includes Condition damage, which is now just another form of spike/burst damage.
Enemies can’t counter a thing when they’re dead. #SunTsu
There is a huge difference the fact that there are multiple skills that can be avaoided or negated in that Burst is Huge, while a true one shot only has to deal with one attack skill activation.
But most players won’t know the difference
Fixed it for you. The simple truth is that the combination of a poor telegraphing system, particularly when LoD or low graphics are enabled, instant abilities, stealth/blinks and lag means that most people haven’t got a clue what hits them most of the time.
Come Tuesday, there will be a bonus given to people who tag up in WvW. If there is a commander shortage at the moment, expect to have an abundance on Tuesday.
And a shortage on wednesday again when players find out most of them suck, so they will go back to only following known names.
The OP says there is no tag. So any tag is better than none. If you tag up, they will come. That’s the way I reason it anyway.

It’s not anone shot it’s a High Burst combo,
Aaaand the difference on the victim’s end of things is …. non-existant.
The combat in GW2 has always been about big bursts.
Even now, high condition damage is about landing a big stack so that it downs someone before they can counter (cleanse) it. That’s the same thing.
The game seems to SUPPOSED to be about counter-play, but the builds are about fatal bursts.
(edited by Svarty.8019)
As someone who played a very broad spectrum of competetive games for about 20 years i can say CCs arent the issue in this game. We have ways to deal with CCs, like swapping uttis for that extra stunnbreaker etc.
The main issue is the lack balance between risk and reward. A lot of the builds have cheap ways to be succesfull. There is very little build up and skill required in quite a few cases.
“big hits " should require
- Build up. For example: a combo string of landed moves leading to that 1 major dmg move.
- Be relatively hard to hit. A slow big telegraph move for example or a move that has to be aimed precicely.
- Coming from a super glassy build that takes a huge risk getting in to a position to do that dmg.
Arenanet should listen to this guy, Rufus, he knows what he’s talking about.
What you say here does make me wonder about Thieves, though. I wonder what could be considered “taking a huge risk” when you’re not even visible when you start an attack chain in a game where internet latency has to be taken into account – I mean, thieves always gets me down to about 30% health before I even know they’re there.
This is just one reason I dislike stealth in any “competitive play” MMO.
A: win fights in EotM
Fixed it for you.
I don’t agree with Sly much, but in this instance he’s correct.

IMO some kind of movement ability or stealth is an absolute minimum!
Looks pretty awesome to me!

Ahh thanks

At the core of WvW combat are three systems:
- The PvP system. This consists of people who play thieves or other PvP specced classes in WvW. They often refer to themselves as Roamers, but their victims sometimes refer to them as Gankers. These are most often found near spawn areas especially camps and sentries, particularly near the south end of the Alpine maps.
If you see multiple people with two purple glowing effects on their backpack, I would run the other way – that’s the PvP backpack. - The GvG system. This can be groups of about the same size as PvPers, but these have different builds. They could also have many more players than that. They are often built to synergise with one another and will move together in a tight “ball” formation in order to survive better via the following;
- mitigate damage via the target cap that most AoE abilities have (usually 5),
- pbaoe boons,
- pbaoe condition removal,
- pbaoe heal via blasting water fields
- The Zerg system. Otherwise referred to as the Blob (technically a Blob has at least one guild at the core of a zerg). This works in a similar way to the GvG system, except that the zerg is led by an open squad commander, sometimes not even on voice communications. The zerg welcomes everybody to join in and although it is often derided by those of the other modes for it’s lack of skillful play and brute force method, the zerg is undeniably effective.

Does this mean you get better rewards for beating high ranked WvWers?
Let the manhunt begin!
SO APPROPRIATE!
I believe Stephen Clarke-Willson and his crew have been at it for well over a year-and-a-half.
Looks good on the picture. What’s this about a glider, though? Seems rather pointless, unless …

We need to be nice to our PvE brethren and embrace them, teach them, help them. They are the population that some servers lack.
There is an opportunity here to get lots of people into WvW, and show them that it’s not just a case of following a blue tag in a circular karma-train and/or getting battered by a spawn-camping server in EB. It’s up to us to show them that WvW is about all the other friends you meet and help and fight beside and …er… rez and then tease.
Invite these people into teamspeak and remember your manners (if you can – we all know that WvW can be extremely frustrating at times).

“If you’ve been playing on the same world for at least three weeks”
Respect
Hope this has a positive impact on the game mode. My feelings on the other 4 points are mixed, but the weekly reset idea might simply overrule those concerns. Let’s see how it works.
This does look like a tremendous boon to the matches. I hope our serverhopping colleagues come to the conclusion that it is worthwhile remaining on one world, whichever it ends up being.
Legendary back item from WvW. Looks good in principle, but will wait until full details of all tiers are posted. Some bright spark in team chat said you had to be in Tier 1 to get it, but I see no evidence for this.
The backpack looks really pretty in that picture, I hope this can impress the PvE players enough to lure them into an extended stay in WvW, and I hope they see it as a carrot and not the stick that they seem to perceive Gift of Battle as.
Overall it looks like a very positive update with things that players have asked for directly or voted for.
Looks like we’re not the only ones with this issue:
Idk though, if the new lfg is like a server wide announcement/communicate type… I would actually be interested…
If it’s just a cool UI with exactly the same feature as current useless lfg…
The Development by Acretion model means Arenanet are unlikely to expand any current system.
My hope is a complete reconceptualisation of LFG for WvW that makes WvW a more prominent option on the UI.
I frankly don’t believe the numbers presented anyway. Packed yaks simply are slow and not worth waiting for unless you want to babysit them and speed them up yourself.
This could be good. We’ll have to wait and see.
Packed are better because although they are identical in terms of overall effect, enemies can identify speedy dolyaks simply by observing how quickly they traverse the map.
Also, you can put swiftness on packed dolyaks to make them even more rapid (I believe the OP made this point).
The ONLY reason to use speedy yaks is for guild escort missions.
… and the Leader of the Yak achievement.
A warrior probably beat McLain’s thief.
The idea is nice in and of itself, but I wouldn’t prioritise it. It’s just a “nice to have”, imo.
Development by Accretion means that there will be new content AND new systems, but not new content (and limited fixes) FOR old systems.
Examples;
These Forums
Guild Missions
Guild Halls
Guild WvW Upgrades
WvW Rank Abilities
Dungeons
etc etc etc …
