WvW has grown more and more toxic over time, and I think the devs need to take a stronger stance on communication methods inside wvw… It was a smart idea to remove enemy global chat and such, but I think 2 additional layers of chat prevention would go a long way to help clean up the unnecessary negativity while playing. And those are…
…A system wide feature that prevents all enemy whispers and mails while inside wvw. Only mutual friends list people, not followers, can communicate cross server.
Some of us are mature and we want to pop in, goof off and enjoy the game… not get inundated with childish rage whispers from emotionally unstable teens and adults who need to feel some sort of superiority in a video game… Also, with updates coming to wvw, that will bring in new and returning players, I think it would be a healthy change to prevent all forms of enemy communication so we don’t enable bad behaviors, trolling and stupidity.
And to those who will say… “No, I made friends on the opposing side”… If you really want to connect with someone then you can leave wvw and send a message or mail… “But just block”… sure, that’s valid, but I think it’s about time for the devs to take some additional steps to stop enabling bad behavior at the source.

While i love PPK, I tend to spare those with low ranks in hopes they will stay in WvW (unless they constantly engage me while roaming, then I may stomp once). It will be nice to see new people, even if its for a short period of time.
On the flip side, we don’t need any more toxic attitudes either in map or team chat so if you are constantly raging, salty whispering or always blaming other people for your own faults, WvW doesn’t need you.
See you on the battlefield
I agree with the op about being nicer to new players coming in, and you not wanting more “toxic attitudes”, but I’m confused… This below seems contradictory to what you want and doesn’t really set a good precedent for new players reading the forums…
Meh, everyone knows YB are siege humpers and can only win when they are outnumbering and have at least 6+ people. Its something Ive learned to deal with (that and their salty whisperers)
1v2’d a group today (was a pretty good fight), then 2v4’d another. Got 3 salty whispers from 3 diff people (I lagged at one point when I was getting condi bombed by a necro). I just take the salt and sprinkle it on my “idc fries” and disable half their siege for fun (when im passing someone using it ofc…even if im not engaged in the fight in question).
Just like BrainlessBlobGate, Spawn Camper Mag, and salty JQ, once you get them separated from their carebear zerg, they all die like the rest shrug
If your concern is with new players, then it also starts with not being toxic on the forums right?

Celestial Avatar could so easily be made to feel better: if we loaded in with the AF bar at full, and it emptied as normal while we were in CA, and then it refilled passively as well as actively… these would be small fixes but they would make CA feel much more humane.
Yeah, the devs could make a lot of things feel and play better, but it doesn’t seem they care all that much.

If you remember the state of ranger before druid…. we were garbage tier in 3/3 game modes excluding WvW roaming. Now we’re downright awesome.
I have VERY high hopes for the next epec. I think we’ll be just fine.
I understand what you are saying Fluff, but the point is that there are better ways to achieve good results without introducing wonky mechanics and designs.
Also, as someone who primarily played support characters and roles competitively before esports and twitch were cool, the Druid team support design is not good. This is due to the resource gating, timed shroud mechanics and wacky reticle skills. It’s not good, and would prefer anet move away from designs like these.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
I personally can’t stand the way resource building mechanics and gated “shrouds/forms/stances” were designed in this game. It is not fun to be gated from skills, nor is it “balance” in a positive way compared to the other “no resource required” designed elites, and puts a player at a disadvantage when locked out of these states.
Also, the ranger community has been waiting long enough for major improvements to pets, melee competitiveness, core skills and traits… and have spent the past 2 years fiddling with the less than stellar Druid staff skills, frustrating astral force mechanics and the most clunky healing skills ever designed in a game on celestial avatar.
If the team is currently sticking to the status quo in the above areas, then I suggest changing it before the next xpac is released, because I’m pretty sure many of us are tired of off-putting designs that kill the fun of playing a particular profession or build.
Edit- And I’m not trying to be rude, but I’m strongly getting the feeling this “soulbeast” design will be like a low budget d/d thief design (because we can’t step on the toes of thieves or outrage ensues), with awful pets (outside of being stowed when transformed into the “soulbeast”) and forced to fiddle with resource gating and a timed “shroud” to be on par in combat against other elites.

I can’t (or don’t know how to) link specific parts of the text to a word so the Bullet Points wouldn’t help much; an index would. =/
Sure you can. Just reread what you wrote and make a short list of the most important points that’s easier for the readers to understand. Think of how you would do a power point presentation for a psychology class and go from there.

i would bet the only change to LFG is the options to add squad besides a party… i dont even know if that is present already since LFG is the most useles QoL thing since it is not needed.
Even if it is not already in game, announcing it as if was something that players care, it is lame.
There is nothing wrong with having a group finder. The only thing lame is to complain about an optional to use tool that helps players and teams get more organized.

This is my speculation based off of past designs…
-A low budget D/D thief design with mediocre damage.
-Pets will still be used until you transform into the “soulbeast”.
-Soulbeast transformation will have another wonky resource requirement like Druid and only lasts for 10 seconds.
-Pets disappear after you transform and we get some minor pet buff in exchange.
…Most will go back to playing Druid when the novelty wears off after a month, and when players realize they are getting chewed up during melee combat in pve, spvp and wvw.

Medium armor needs to be redone to fit the character concepts…
Engineer
Masters of mechanical mayhem, engineers love to tinker with explosives, elixirs, and all manner of hazardous gadgets. They support their allies with alchemic weaponry, deploy ingenious inventions, or lay waste to foes with a wide array of mines, bombs, and grenades.
Ranger
Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled survivalists with traps, nature spirits, and a stable of loyal pets at their command, rangers can adapt to any situation.
Thief
Experts at stealth and surprise, thieves move through the shadows, vanish into thin air, or steal items from their opponents and use them as weapons. Thieves practice an agile, acrobatic fighting style, which makes them very hard to hit.

Jon P quote from this site published on 6/10/2011

“Jon P: When we actually made the decision to not have healers, it wasn’t my job to talk to others about it directly, so I’m unsure how heavily other people were consulted. I know some were skeptical and were worried. A lot of people like to play healers and liked to play monks in Guild Wars 1. That being said, it’s not a secret around the office that I do not like to play healers, so I wasn’t too sad to see them go!”

We haven’t fully decided how to distribute the T2 Weapons and Armor yet. Though, we are currently leaning towards players purchasing them with a currency that they’d earn as a match reward. We may also set rank requirements for the various pieces, so you’d need to be a relatively high rank(1-2k) to purchase a full set."

I don’t think we’re being victims of “bad class balance”; I think we’re just getting closer and closer to realize that combat needs a serious overhaul. Allow me to explain.
We are playing a game where instanced content is all about dealing as much damage as you can if you don’t weant to die. Every encounter in the game (save the Nightmare Fractal and similar, which I’ll cover in a little bit) is all about HP bloated targets which take too long to die and therefore there are two viable methods of dealing with them: skipping or pumping out your damage. No one stops anymore to kill the mobs unless it’s completely necessary, and being honest, maybe less than half the current players actually know how to properly do skips, but this isn’t something that SHOULD happen, it’s just terrible game design.
For me classes are good as they are. I don’t call this last patch a “Power Nerf” but an adjustment. Condition damage is weak against mob groups but very effective against large HP single targets, which makes sense! However only the classes are tunned up/down and the enemies stay exactly the same. Raids are pushing this kind of mentality if “kill it faster” with the enrage timers. Tho many of us have defended raids as being content “easily completed by anyone in any build”, this couldn’t be further from the truth… Raids are all DPS checks with mechanics; mechanics that even raiding guilds try to ignore in order to deal damage. It is still all about beating a piñata to death while ignoring the rest of the fight. Imagine a raid without the timer, and now we could be talking about more viable builds that go beyond pure DPS.
The current “meta” shines for being very unaccessible to new players or more casual ones. It’s riddiculous that HoT stats are all gated behind expensive crafting, even on exotic quality, while the rest of the game’s gear can be easily acquired by spending Karma (a long time useless resource it would seem) and treading with others. You can’t just walk into a Vendor and get exotic Viper’s, you have to either craft or do extremely niche things to get it! This locks some people into the “This is your first job but you have to be experienced first” cycle. Imagine a Power Build Reaper who wants to farm Ascended Gear on Fractals; he’ll be kicked because he isn’t a Condition Reaper, but he can’t be a Condition Reaper yet, since he must get that gear.
GW2 has two “brothers” who do some things way better: Wildstar and The Secret World. Both games have an extremely similar focus on exploration, non-linearity of quests, and the combat on both games is pretty much a copy paste of the GW2 combat engine, yet both games manage to do something good with it.
Wildstar takes advantage of the game’s dynamic combat by making every single mob have an attack pattern and AOEs like those seen on the Nightmare Fractal; that instance is an example of how dungeons in Wildstar are like, every one taking advantage on the class’s strengths. Classes in Wildstar, like in GW2, are multi-purpose, however the game lets you know their roles beforehand (As a Medic, you can be both DPS and Healer, as a warrior, you can be DPS or Tank, etc.), and changing roles on the fly make things more dynamic and adaptable to whatever is needed at the moment. In the end Wildtar and its raids (which are arguably some of the best on the MMO industry) go beyond just pumping out damage, opening its doors to even more class and build variety and depending on player skill and knowledge of the encounter’s mechanics; they have you moving arround using your skills, pulling enemy aggro, using special skills to trigger mechanics, etc. GW2 is a supposedly dynamic game which has a laughably static combat: you have dodges, you have jumps and dashes, yet everythign is reduced to combining the best boons with the best static field combinations. Yes, maybe removing stuff like combo feels would remove some “depth” but hell, it would allow a lot more things to become less reliant on spamming them stacked on a corner.
Well, the first problem is that you think classes and balance are great to begin with… Both are not, sorry, and you can’t improve combat if classes need a lot of work and balancing needs to be treated more seriously… They all go hand in hand.
Also, I highly doubt most people will read through your thread to decipher what improvements you want to the combat in gw2. Try making some bullet points, with brief descriptions, instead of just using a wall of text to get your ideas out.

I just took a quick gander at the legendary sets, on my charr character… they look pretty all right in my opinion! not extremely good, but certainly not deserving the hate some people seemingly have given to the sets, I have no plans of getting any of the pieces or sets whatsoever, but that does not stop me from appreciating how they look. The only remarkable offense I could point out is on the medium set, while it does not look like a trench coat, its still one, and the… “cowl”? looks absolutely out of place, more befitting of a robe, than a coat. Perhaps if it was changed to a more loosened hood that keeps with the dragon motif these armours have.
edit: After a closer look, medium armour is really extravagant… on the wrong side, I am afraid, it goes overboard on its design, and looks more ridiculous than intimidating, like an angry expression humouristically exaggerated to cause laughter.
Bolded…
Exactly.

So, Anet has decided that third party DPS meters like Arc DPS are acceptable within the policy guidelines. Okay. Did anyone at Anet stop to think about how much hostility and general nastiness result from people employing such scripts? It encourages elitism and general bad behavior. Yes, we can report and block… but we really shouldn’t have to. As far as I can tell, no action is ever taken on such “reports”, anyway.
When I first started playing GW2, I liked that it wasn’t a DPS or meta race. Over the years, that has changed dramatically. Now, Anet is making DPS trackers legit and acceptable; so what’s the message? They don’t want the game to be all about DPS, but they’re going to stack the game so it IS all about DPS. If a meta gets out of hand, nerf it!
Look, I don’t mind the tools being used within defined, regular teams. That’s fine. If someone in an organized, set group needs chewed out for lacking DPS or not using a defined play style, cool. Whatever. But when that attitude and behavior spills over into general game play and LFG? No.
I don’t know the solution, really. It is what it is? However, if this is going to remain the trend (endorsed and encouraged by Anet by allowing tools for DPS/gear check), why not include a rating system or other categorical tick-boxes for “Casual”, “Organized” and/or “Elitist kitten” within the LFG? I understand that Anet needs to create demanding, challenging end-game content that will appeal to the die-hard-forever set; but with that comes a need to mediate their own system.
Then don’t group with people who have a difffent playstyle than you. Move on and don’t impose your playstyle on others, like you are attempting to do with this complaint thread.

Hey all. Just wanted to ask how important you felt it is to use infused rings and backpack in WvW for roaming and zerging.
I checked the prices and its not really cheap and you need to do PvE fractals to get them…
Are the extra stats worth it?
Does it just make you feel good or does it actually matter in combat?
Some players do. Some players don’t.
You should load up gw2 build editor and determine for yourself if an extra 15 points of infusions are worth infusing 3 pieces of gear for, instead of looking for subjective responses.

Is it a waste to not play them?I got 20+ character slots myself but only play 4 to 5 of them on a regular basis…feels wasted seeing all my other characters sitting around in the slots and not having much play time XD

Urgh, please no.
I much prefer the legendary armour in-game to the suggested alternative, which looks like one of those attempts to reboot a superheroes cartoon spandex into something ‘dark’ and ‘serious’….then adds some random spikes for combat mode.
I appreciate a lot of people don’t like the long coats on medium armour, but did you really expect anything else for the legendary? Admittedly it’s a bit clunky for my ranger, but with the shoulders and gloves hidden it’s much better. And it’d be perfect for my thief.
“A bit clunky” is an understatement when the armor looks like this…

Did you ever think some people actually like the medium armor? I mean i don’t care for it but other people do. Honestly this is a waste of a thread.. no one cares about your opinion just like no one cares about mine.
Then they should make an alternative set for each weight.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
It only took two years to make the first one. So it’s completely feasible for them to just up and redo everything now. I mean such a simplistic task, why wouldn’t you ask for it. And of course, if they did do it, it certainly wouldn’t open the door to every Tom, kitten, and Harry expecting their oh so simple requests be honored every time.
Where there is a will, there is a way. The devs did not do this armor justice for medium armor classes. These are supposed to be the most kick butt looking sets of armor, but it makes our Engineers, Rangers and Thieves look silly in normal state and like frumpy battle wizards when transformed…
Most “trench” designs are at least more tasteful, but these look like the character is about to hit the catwalk for a tyria fashion show and ball dance after. This medium set does not scream stealthy and rugged skirmisher. It looks more fitting for our scholar classes… The current design would be akin to Dodge making the Dodge Demon a minivan…
This medium armor doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t make the character look good. It doesn’t look practical… I understand a lot of work went into it, but it just doesn’t match our medium armor classes at all.

When entering WvW borderland, players will choose which guilds they want to represent for the week.
By the end of the week, the guilds with the highest impacts will be announced and rewarded special WvW rare skins/items that last 7 days.
The game is called Guild Wars 2. Representing a server is a cool thing, for people do have pride in their own servers. However, at the end of the day, I felt like the guilds doing the hard work leading their home servers to victory arnt being recognized and rewarded properly.
Thoughts?
Nope, players have their own guilds to rep.
So you understand “Guild Wars”…

WvW point of view, not many, very few, use SB. Even fewer use any form of melee.
WvW point of view, too many conditions, CC, daze, or other things leaving red circles on the ground that trip up Druids healing ability.
Let us be honest here. Healing was not really designed into the game in a traditional sense of play. Just like tanking and raids. It is more of a band aid trying to keep players interested in the game.
Yup
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.
This is my formal request for the development team to redo the medium legendary armor into something befitting our Adventurer Professions.
The trench coat designs have been ok for Engineers, Rangers and Thieves, but the current medium legendary armor design looks like a mismatched set of random pieces prior to transformation, and battlemageish once transformed during combat. The shoulders are gaudy. The chest emblem, or piece, looks a bit like a transformer face icon (ya know autobots and decepticons?). The wyvern face on the back clashes with the use of any back piece. Once transformed it makes the character look frumpy and silly…
Please don’t take this personal, but there is almost nothing about this armor that looks aesthetically pleasing, or even fits medium armor professions thematically. This armor is one of the most unattractive sets in the game for medium armor, and that’s not good because players have spent a whole lot of time and effort to obtain them over the past 2 years… I honestly wish I could say something good about the set, but I can’t. I’ve seen many players hide pieces of these armors to attempt to make it look better, and I am personally about to transform the entire thing to bladed or whispers… That’s just how offputting this medium Legendary set is.
To remind you of what was/is expected of the players to achieve these armors…
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_armor
..So to get something so off putting in appearance is a really big let down after tackling that huge shopping list.
So let’s do this set and the Adventurer players justice…
1st picture- Pre transformation inspiration… Sleek and form fitting pieces that all aesthetically match, and are more appropriate for Engineers, Rangers and Thieves. This would make the armor look great out of battle.
2nd picture- Inspiration for an aggressive and menacing looking “made of bones and pieces of legendary beasts” transformed state.

Our biggest focus in this iteration for necromancers was that of Epidemic, in that its impact is too instant in most PvP scenarios
•Epidemic: This ability now fires slow-arcing projectiles from its initial target to up to 5 targets in range. Foes hit by the projectiles gain all conditions from the original Epidemic target. Projectile strikes are unblockable but cannot critically hit. Increased radius to 900
So because of PvP well mainly WvW you nerfed this across PvE aswell, seriously could you not have just split the skill like you do others?
Why don’t you go ahead and nerf the necro some more, its not like its used across the game as it is.

I’m going to attempt to provide some constructive feedback, but I think my patience has worn thin… I do not know what the issue is, but almost every ranger patch is completely out of touch and DOES NOT address the major issues this profession has… Seriously, at what point in the lifecycle of the game does the team sit back and say “We really want to make our classes amazing for our players!”?
To be clear with the issues, yet again…
PETS ARE AWFUL. This dates back to alpha and beta, and has been acknowledged by your own team members a number of times. You created a combat system with movement based combat, but the pets struggle to hit moving targets. How does this make any sense? How the heck are players supposed to feel when these awful pets are never fixed and forced upon the class?
MELEE DAMAGE IS AWFUL without being buffed up the wazoo, AND melee attacks are too slow and too telegraphed.
YOU KEEP KILLING DRUID. Damage sucks on Druid and you do nothing to improve damage or the extremely poor skills on staff. Staff is a junk weapon comparatively, and it’s only saving grace is Ancestral Grace for the position skill… You keep killing the healing on one of the most clunky to use (because reticle skills suck to heal with on moving targets) heal skill designs of any mmo to date that has healing classes. Do you not know that poison kills all healing by 33%, and that there is enough poison conditions being pumped out by players in pvp and wvw? Do you know how easy it is for players to shut down a Druid in CA form? Do you know how bad it sucks to heal teammates that are not stationary? Do you know how much it sucks to apologize to teammates who die because we are gated from our main healing skills? You designed an entire elite around healing, but it’s completely awful.
CONDI RANGERS/DRUIDS SUCK IN PVP AND WVW. There are ZERO decent condi builds that are competitive in competitive game modes, and all you are stressing about are these useless changes to condi output on pve?
TRAIT CHANGES MEAN NOTHING IF SKILLS ARE AWFUL. It makes zero sense to keep making trait changes when the actual skills they affect need adjustments and improvements. Trait changes are not the holy grail of balancing this game, but you have devoted most efforts to them. Please stop doing this until you get weapon and slot skill in a good place first. Example… Dont’t care what traits you change that affect sword and short bow, those weapons skills are not good and no amount of niggling about their traits will make these weapons better. Just fix the base weapons skills to be more competitive first, then look at the traits for them.
PLEASE START DOING WHAT’S BEST FOR THE END USERS, not what’s easier for the team to do. You all have the capability to make gw2 have some of the best class and combat systems around, so just bunker down and do it. Stop being cheap with class development.
I’m sure I can come up with more, but yet again with out of touch updates that do not tackle the real problems that have been well known. Yes, there were a few improvements, but how many more community posts and CDIs will it take to fix up this profession? When does anet, a professional game company, actually make a real effort to fix and improve and revamp… professions? They are the most important aspects of the game so do something!
Research this and please get familiar with a balanced and fun and diverse class and skill system that was way ahead of its time, created by development team that cared about the main user experience… Also, please start moving away from all these wacky profession designs, mechanics, and useless skills you are attempting to balance, and start focusing on making the classes and combat in gW2 the best of any other mmo.

Spoilers and speculations…
Gods were considered “good”. Dragons were considered "evil. Killing off the dragons brings an unbalance to “things”… So… Balthazar and Aurene are the start of flipping the good vs evil script.
New dragons are hatched. We become dragon “minions”, or gain the aspects of dragons, and the new antagonists (good catch Konig!) are the current set of gods… All of this leads to GW3 “Heart of God Slayers” or GW3 HoGS for short. GW3 HoGS may even be a Moba and GW2 goes into maintenance mode.
What do you think?

The whole lack of customizability coupled with their stance against modding (and frankly, lack of a modding API) is just feeling like a good ol’ 2001 MMO again.
I thought we evolved past this
I thought so too…

Maybe this is a sneaky anet clue?

The UI needs some love and lots of options.

Aside from new elite specs, I’m curious if we are finally going to get some major profession improvements in the next xpac?

The named mercs make for some interesting encounters; I don’t think they need to change, especially since they are all easily avoided. Think they are too powerful? Don’t fight them.
I don’t read the OP as a call for npc nerfs, but more an indirect ask why new skills are being made for npcs and not given to players
TL;DR : Ro venombite is yet another OP character, bearing skills with no common measure with player’s. Either it’s a bug, or it’s an intended design to have a veteran so tedious to beat, but it’s time to stop the power creep, and the crazy new skills for NPC’s only.
OP is clearly asking for NPCs not to have “crazy new skills.”
I was indeed not asking for a nerf. From a gameplay point of view, that mercenary is nothing to worry too much about : she can be avoided, she’s no real threat. I’m underlining here design issues : players have been asking and asking for new skills for ages, and at each release, we see new skills designed, developped specifically for NPC’s. On top of it, it’s on-steroids version of player’s skills…
Named or not the named classes NEED to be 100% confined to the EXACT skills the players have access to. If they can’t create a challenging encounter with those skills, it is time to take a hard look at the class as to why this is.
I totally agree. I used to have tons of fun in a game with a given set of professions, and each mob had one of those, and shared the same skill possibilities as the players. There even was a possibility to steal a skill from a dead champion enemy using a specific signet. It was the only way to get elites. I can’t remember the name of that game… Good old times.
May you be listened on the devs part.
I suggest clearing up your title and messaging to reflect your main concerns. Like..
Title- “Professions need cool skills like npcs”
Post- “I noticed such and such npcs with these cool skills, and it would be super to get more like these in the hands of professions as well…”

It does seem like glicko is broken:
- Current scores are still partly based on historical data that is has been irrelevant since linking.
- Host servers retain the glicko score earned from the host-guest combination, even though links change regularly.
- Current scores are being tampered with – manual adjustments and occasional changes to the match making algorithm.
What are the alternatives?
- Replace glicko. But with what? Any replacement would need to accommodate both PPT and PPK play.
- Keep the current scoring but allocate score to every server involved? This would allow “guest” servers to gain score once again, and could lead to a full league table once more, or two tables (Hosts and Guests). But how do you fairly allocate score between the servers involved in a kill/capture?
- Is there a better alternative system?
Yes, the alternative is making a 3 factions megaserver wvw with enough maps to pool all players so there is 24/7 coverage. No, not map copies like eotm… Add a new series of unique wvw maps that can host the playerbase so there is room and variety. Faction rotations can happen every few months or whatever.

that’s impossible most servers don’t buy guilds like mag bg and jq does that also being said there isn’t enough guild and people left to do so
It’s impossible for players to take charge… lead… inspire other players to get involved… teach people how to wvw… form guilds… ???
