not true…. go and test it your self.
No all the races have the same movement speed. End of discussion. This thread is irrelevant.
The Norn looks like they move slower. It is actually just their size and the camera angle- it makes them appear to move slower. Same with Asura and why they seem to move ridiculously fast. In reality all move the same speed.
Now just to humour you I will list reasons why ANet would not change the speeds of any of the races.
1. It imbalances the races. If they made the Norn ridiculously slow and the Asura ridiculously fast then everyone would/should play the Asura. They instantly have a speed buff.
You know what. That is the only reason I need.
You derped man. You derped hard.
Tyler Joe
The norn Males need a little bit of a change. All I could suggest is making them a little thin width-wise. They seem a little bit too awkward at the moment – the ranger sword attack animation is terrible – and all long hair clips through cultural armors (making them somewhat redundant in my mind).
Also – the width at which they keep their legs is a little awkward too. There is something particularly wrong about Male Norns in Medium Armor – it just doesn’t look right usually.
Tyler Joe
I thought as much.
Tyler Joe
Consider expansions – if they further the story then being a level 80 norn who looks like a human would not make sense.
Tyler Joe
I just wanted to put a call out there for more appearance options. Aside from humans every race is lacking significantly in appearance options – need specifically more hairstyles and faces – maybe beards for Norn as well.
Tyler Joe
Ah – I just made a new post about this.
I am having the same problem. Anyone found any solutions to it?
Tyler Joe
Since the Lost Shores event started my game has crashed every 5 minutes or so when I have been in Lion’s Arch. I don’t know if this is just my problem or anyone else’s. I am just wanting to know first if other players are having the same problem and second if there is anything the Tech Support team thinks I can do to manage the problem.
Tyler Joe
This may not fit in this forum but I don’t know where else to post this.
Where do you report hackers? I just witnessed a norn character flying and entering no clipping areas and things like that. Is there a way to report that? I don’t necessarily remember the account name (it was samuel.4862 or something along those lines). He is in a guild called [HAX] (real original aye?).
Tyler Joe
What? You don’t like tickling the enemy to death?
I challenge you to a tickle war! Guardians only!
Tyler Joe
On my original ranger, I named pets by holding a contest in Map chat whenever I tamed one. The first response that didn’t risk Terms of Service violation got accepted, no matter what it was. My Guildmates named my Fern Hound since the Sylvari Tutorial was pretty quiet when I made the character, and Map Chat named everybody else. All was going well until the Snow Leopard, when Hoelbrak map chat decided it was sick of me I guess. When I pick my Ranger back up, I’ll probably start doing this again.
Fern Hound – Fernris
Jungle Spider – Ungoliant
Pink Moa – Rico Suave
Pig – Baconator
Drakehound – Marmaduke
Blue Jellyfish – Squidward
Armor Fish – Dino Dan
Red Jellyfish – Wiggles
Siamoth – Snugglywuggly
Lashtail Devourer – Tony Two Tips
Whiptail Devourer – Electric Boogaloo
Polar Bear – Boon
Raven – Cawcawcawcawcawcaw
Fernris is awesome!
Tyler Joe
I am trying to pinpoint exactly what it is, but does anyone else have a slight problem with how the Male Norn run?
I think my problem has to do with how short and quick their stepts are.
Tyler Joe
I would be happy for a small amount of customization – not much though. Collars and different collar types/colors would be good, but anything beyond that would be excessive.
Tyler Joe
I like weapon swap. It depends on which class you are running though as some Ranger don’t need to weaponswap as much as others Mesmer. For some all you need is a ranged option and then a combat option, but for others consistent weaponswapping provides you with better damage/stuns/conditions/whatever.
I do want to see more skills. I also believe there will be plenty more skills down the track as well as much more content. Please remember that while the game has been released it is still “technically” in beta phase. I’m sure that further down the track there will be a LOT more content and plenty more options for personalization of characters (traits and skills-wise).
Tyler Joe
I must point out though that I am happy to see the Devs responding to this issue which has been a problem for quite some time.
Thank you.

Due to community concerns about the effect of free transfers on world versus world, starting on November 1 we are going to change how often players are allowed to transfer worlds. After the update, players will be able to transfer worlds once every 7 days instead of once every 24 hours. We are also actively working on getting the guesting functionality in place. Thank you for your understanding.
I have concerns about whether this will effectively nerf the problem. Please remember, WvW resets every week now which means that they will still be able to change worlds at the start of every week of WvW. I think that people who transfer worlds shouldn’t be able to participate in WvW for a few days (up to a week when WvW returns to 2 week matches). That would put effective punishment on players who change consistently.

My Sylvan Hound is called “Salad Fingers”.

I know that this idea was scrapped early on, but I thought I would suggest it again. I have thought of a way that might make it applicable without making the races “better” for specific classes. You could make racial traits univerally add +2 to Power, Precision, Vitality, Healing Power, and Toughness. You could have individual traits on top of that at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 that are different from the other races but that are somewhat more generic – that don’t imbalance the races.

Mesmer portals and thief camp stalling: Why these tactics are important for WvW
in WvW
Posted by: TJV.6239
Camp stalling isn’t a problem. Mesmer porting is however. Mesmer porting means that several gold worth of upgrades that a guild puts into a tower or keep suddenly become entirely useless. Basically Mesmer portals make upgrading buildings entirely useless which then eliminates an entire part of intended game tactics – those of using siege equipment and siege warfare. I personally wouldn’t mind if there was a siege weapon or upgrade you could purchase that allowed you to bore through a wall very quickly, or that allowed you to (almost) instantaneously bore a tunnel underground, though it would have to be very expensive. What Mesmer porting provides is a completely free way to break into a castle.

Wait why is this in the Halloween section?
I’m trying to work that out myself. A moderator moved it and I have no idea why.
Tyler Joe
If an expansion is released and they include a new race you must think about which region they will be expanding. If they expand upon the areas around Kryta than it will be Kodan who become a playable race (if they make more playable races). If, however, they expand on Cantha than it will probably be the Tengu because they are, or at least were local to Cantha in their past. I don’t know what would happen in Elona though as I can’t remember any particular races of importance.
Tyler Joe
Can a moderator please explain as to why this thread has been moved to the Halloween Section?
Tyler Joe
On almost every class forum I find a discussion about giving classes more weapons. I thought I would make a thread here for the players to discuss it, and also for the Devs to see the request. That said I also hope that the Devs can reply a little as well. I remember an earlier conversation during the beta with a Dev concerning Engineers having another weapon (the hammer) and he/she mentioned that at the moment it wouldn’t be an intelligent idea, though the reason why that was I can’t remember.
Here are the suggestions I have seen so far and the reasons behind it – I thought the players could discuss it.
Thief – Rifle
This was a very brief comment I saw on the thief thread. Being a very dedicated thief player I do agree with this a little. We struggle in long range fights. Every other class has access to 1000-1200 range weapons while the thief is cut short at 900 on shortbow and pistols. Another option on this was to increase shortbow range to 1200 but getting rid of the bounce.
Engineer – Hammer
Players feel the engineer needs at least one more weapon, and preferably a combat one. This is because while we have some powerful kits and weapon kits and things like that, none of them has the same feel as a combat weapon. The wrench might be close, but the skills on it are mediocre unless you are bringing a lot of turrets, but even then it is rarely used. The hammer doesn’t feel too foreign for a technology based class and I’m sure we could find multiple ways to implement it as a steampunky weapon (steam-piston attacks or something like that). I could even suggest a torch, though that wouldn’t be combat based and the only reason I suggest it is because I feel the engineer needs something to provide more variety in his skills. I would enjoy having a combat based engineer, but I think it would be better to have more variety, which a torch would do (pistol-pistol, pistol-shield, pistol-torch – it provides another weapon combination for the game).
Ranger – Staff
This was a suggestion I saw recently. I personally don’t mind the idea, but at the same time the Ranger already has access to loads of other weapons. It is a good suggestion though for players who want to get a druid sort of feel from their Rangers, something that wielding a giant sword or throwing axes at people doesn’t achieve. While the other weapon suggestions above for the thief and engineer are there due to a lack of options the suggestion for the Ranger is an aesthetics one and somewhat less important. I would be interested in seeing the options available to people from giving them staffs though. Also, when we consider Guild Wars 1, staff wielding rangers isn’t a foreign sight. Many would wield them if they were trap focussed, touch-rangers, SoS ranger/ritualists or a farm build utilizing stances.
Continue to post and provide other weapon options. I posted this just to see the creativity of the players, and to let the Devs know that we have ideas that we might like to see implemented. Enjoy brainstorming

DesertRose – thieves always have access to steal – 90% of thieves use it exclusively as a shadowstep. If every thief has access to it then it means you will have to learn how to counter it. How is that? By what I said – dodge and start using your spells. You may find it annoying and want to kitten about the thief being OP but, as I said, if you are running around by yourself and you aren’t a thief or a mesmer then you are probably a little bit daft. In WvW you can’t run around by yourself unless you are a thief or a mesmer either because you’ll get killed by either one of those classes, or a mob will pop up and murder you. About PvP though – you will automatically be in a team. Expect there to be thieves so expect to stay closer to your friends. If you are alone we will kill you and there is very little you can do about it – but if you have a group of friends we can’t do much at all. Sure we can jump in and slash at everything nearby but we don’t have the armor or hp to survive for long at all – we will die quicker than any other profession in those circumstances and any effect we have in doing so will be minimal.
The thief is probably the only class designed for loners. People who play thief aren’t necessarily team players in the sense of zerging – rather we are harassers and assassins and use those skills FOR THE GREATER GOOD!
People can kitten and whine all they want about the thief, but I tell you the thief is balanced. The problem is thief players go through a very quick learning process early on. Most thieves die very often or get downed a lot while they are learning the class – as such we learn to avoid taking damage, or we find ways to prevent damage altogether – we learn to avoid fights we know we can’t win, and generally thieves become very observant players because we have to assess a situation more often and faster than other classes do.
It’s not a thing of “react quickly to avoid death.” Rather it’s a thing of DON’T RUN AROUND BY YOURSELF. If you don’t take that advice than the problem isn’t thief being OP, rather the problem is players remaining consistently stupid and thieves preying on a largely slow witted population.
Tyler Joe
(edited by TJV.6239)
The thief isn’t OP. It really shines in 1v1 fights where they have the element of surprise. They are lacking somewhat in bigger fights and tend to die easily. Thieves actually required a lot of intelligence to play – being able to plan ahead in regards to how they are going to use initiative, or knowing when to teleport out of a fight and run away when it goes badly. The roles thieves tend to play in WvW are sentry (stealthing and spying on the enemy), or supply line disruption being able to disrupt sentries and supplies by having fast move speed and being able to get in and out of a fight quickly – essentially hit and run tactics. We cannot solo most other classes if they are quick and intelligent – if they actually use their dodges and heals effectively. Generally all other players have to do is, when we steal from them, immediately roll away and start using their area skills to prevent us from getting close. More importantly though WHY THE HELL ARE YOU RUNNING AROUND BY YOURSELF IF YOU AREN’T A THIEF (or possibly a Mesmer)? That is asking for one of us to pop up and stab you to death. Where we can generally solo most classes we suffer significantly in big fights. We have very little health and armor and even a short AOE attack can down us – something that you can’t say of a warrior, guardian, ranger, necromancer, or sometimes a mesmer, and even Engineer and Ele can survive AOE for a few seconds considering they have defensive skills.
Good thief players understand the importance of speed and endurance. We don’t have defensive skills and our heals are generally poor quality compared to the other classes. Our only defense is our endurance, our speed, and our ability to get out of a fight going badly quicker than anyone else.
The thief is balanced. People really just want something to whine about.
Tyler Joe
I will happily join your guild!
I refuse to leave my world though. I am in Dragonbrand, so I vote DB.
Tyler Joe
We were 10 people, I was the mesmer who ported them inside xD
we just had a good distraction out
oh and it was 3 golems, and well.. we shredded your unapgraded gates with timewarp xD
oh btw.. it was clone wars… we had 3 mesmers in that group
It was a very good tactic.
I think we could have put up a better fight though if Dragonbrand players would just coordinate with each other, and if they would listen to experienced player.
Nice job though. Congrats on taking the garrison.
Tyler Joe
I have to agree with this. Commander Title should be earned. I have been really demoralized on Dragonbrand WvW because our commanders are useless. My guild tries to rally people to our cause – we organise towers to take and camps to attack, but everyone follows the orders of some commanders who have no idea what they are doing. I know of one good commander and that was Cristin Star (I believe that was the toons name).
Tyler Joe
Dragonbrand suffered a little earlier. My team built 6 (yes 6) trebs in Dragonbrand garrison, 1 of which that could reach the walls we were aiming for. I think it was disgraceful because it sapped a LOT of supplies that could have been used elsewhere. While our whole team was focussed on trying to bring down the walls with 6 siege weapons that weren’t doing anything, the TC team brought 2 siege golems and 20 guys to the walls and brought them down, all because no-one would listen to the advice of a few experienced players suggesting we ignore Dreaming Bay and instead take TC’s supplies and attack a tower.
In the end we lost Dragonbrand Garrison as well as those 6 trebs, costing us a significant amount of resources and points (considering how upgraded the Garrison was at that point).
Nice job Dragonbrand.
Also, nice job TC for taking advantage of our inability to properly coordinate against you. I mean that (I’m not trying to be sarcastic). You had half our army engaged at Dreaming Bay (again because they refused to listen to intelligent advice) and then ripped down our walls while the other half of the army were being idiots around the Trebs. There were a few of our guys listening to advice and attacking behind your lines, but it wasn’t enough to do anything. Those guys I commend though.
You bated our army very well. You set up some arrow carts and pulled a chunk of our army away from the walls. Very wise move on your part…very stupid move on DB’s part (again…more reason to listen to other players).
I just wanted to congratulate you on your excellent tactics.
Thanks.

Consular of the Immortals [CotI], aPvE and WvW guild is recruiting. We are currently small, but our players are very active. We have a strong leadership team and some very good WvWers. Our main focus is PvE but we intend to make Dragonbrand strong again in WvW when we have the numbers. Our players are very dedicated to the guild, and we will never jump over to another server just because we are losing.
Get in contact with myself TJV.6239, Kiraali.8526 or kryptonite.4029. We are the most active leaders of the guild and generally deal with recruitment and such. We don’t care about skill level in WvW as we are willing to train new players. Our only condition is that if you join the guild you remain in Dragonbrand – if you jump ship we will kick you.
Hope to see you in game.
Tyler Joe
@TJV: i was helping to coordinate the defense on the TC borderlands today, and y’all both kept us on our heels for most of the day. if it wasn’t FA that was hitting us, it was DB, and often times both though in different areas. we broke away from the zerg strategy as much as possible there. the last match against BG taught us a lot, and got a lot of people focused on playing defense. we learned ways to break zergs and counter siege because we had to. we also learned how to make the number of people we had fight like we were many more. it was the only way we could hold anything against BG, if even for only a few hours. for most of the day, it seemed like the numbers were pretty even there and the larger battles were back and forth ones. personally, i had a blast today. it was some very exciting stuff.
@rhonyn:
the point scaling does sound like it would be a good fix. though, i would go with a ratio of how many people happen to be on a given map, and make the points based off of the areas the server with less people has scale up accordingly. if 10 people can take a place and hold it against 50, those 10 people did a whole lot better during that time. though, there would need to be some sort of way to make sure people didn’t all just leave that map right before the round ended to try to exploit the system.also, as for people not joining WvW based on what the score is, believe me, you don’t want those people in there anyway. they have no heart, and will crumble at the first sign of a challenge. difficulty teaches us far more than simplicity ever could. it also makes you grow stronger. you might not be able to hold a decent chunk of the map, but you can still observe and learn. watch what’s being thrown at you, and how it’s done. then you can practice it, and add it to your own arsenal. you can also work on developing counters for those methods. then, when the fair weather troops come back, you can help lift them to even greater heights. when you lead by example, you’ll find that people will indeed follow. it make take time but if your example is a good one, it will happen.
Yeah, I remember that game. Unfortunately now we suffer from a lot of players jumping ship a few games back. We have almost no numbers. We’re trying, and you guys are doing good, but we won’t win this game because we don’t have any players.
We’re still not trying to make it easy for you. It’s just frustrating to get into a fight and realise we are outnumbered in every possible way. That said the huge fight yesterday (or the day before) where we were trying to take Dragonbrand Garrison was awesome. You guys did very good there. I think we could have won that fight if only FA weren’t taking the resources at Arah from us every few minutes, and if the TC guys hadn’t been taking the resources from Godsword every 5 minutes as well.
Tyler Joe
I propose a temporary peace between FA and Dragonbrand. We’re both outmanned by the TC zergs – how about we team against them for a while.
Tyler Joe
Dragonbrand has some very good WvW players but we don’t have enough people to put these tactics into place. We put up a good fight at reset but all TC had to do was send a zerg in – we never have enough people to fight against zergs because of a number of guilds transferring from our server to others.
We are looking for a WvW guild to join us and then not leave when it gets tough – or we are looking for more players. If you are interested and need a guild with a presence in Dragonbrand then PM me. We are small but are very active in WvW, usually trying to get everyone organised into a single strike force.
Since September 29 WvW players on Dragonbrand haven’t suffered from any waiting times, and it’s simply because we don’t have enough players anymore. If you are out there and know our pain, then please help out.
Tyler Joe
I thought ladders would be a good idea too, but against towers and things like that it would make it too easy. The only possible way they could work is if they were worth nothing, but had only a few hundred health. The problem with that though is then they would die too quickly to be of any use. Being able to circumvent destruction of the walls/doors would ruin the game. Otherwise you could have siege ladders that work like siege golems – they take a long time to build but have a lot of health – and you can push/carry them to the wall.
I would like to see more blueprints though. Having placeable walls would be a good idea I think – you could essentially use them to build tiny fortresses along supply lines and things like that. It would completely change the game – in fact it would completely change how zerging worked in the game (you could make small fortresses near castles/towers before you attack them).
The only problem I could see with it though is their overuse – if you have an army of players carrying them around and then just covering the maps in them. It would be a very easy way to troll. There would have to be limits on how many walls can be made and on where they can be placed – but that would then limit the tactics related to them which would mostly eliminate their usefulness.
Tyler Joe
The game during the 29th of September shows when Dragonbrand lost players. A number of guilds jumped ship into other worlds during this game – mentioned as happening from October 1st onwards – and after that our world couldn’t catch up in any games.
Tyler Joe
Dragonbrand has suffered from this as well. A few weeks ago we were doing fantastically in WvW. Now we can’t secure a single win. It is so bad our last game we lost be 3 or 4 times the enemy team’s score.
Apparently a whole guild from Dragonbrand left and after that our team has sucked.
I want to know what the Devs are going to do about it because WvW in Dragonbrand is not enjoyable AT ALL. We cannot even secure supply camps for very long, and when we do take a tower, it’s only a minor victory as we get zerged and lose it within an hour or so.
Free world transfers has completely messed up WvW for some servers. Other servers might not have suffered as Dragonbrand has, but just listen and try to sympathize. Can the Mods please do something about world transfers. At least make it so those who transfer can’t participate in WvW for that week.
Can the Devs get back to us and please let us know which worlds have suffered from mass world transfers, and can they then find a way to prevent it in the future or correct the damage that has been done?
Tyler Joe
Just wanted to put a post out for those people looking for an interesting guild. Most of us play on Dragonbrand, though there are a few on other servers. We have a teamspeak channel and play WvW and PvE mainly.
We are looking for players with the maturity of at least a 16 year old and who enjoy adventuring/playing with others. We are a small guild at the moment with just over 20 players.
If you are interested in the guild let me know somehow. Teamspeak is required to join, though you don’t need a microphone, just the ability to listen.
Tyler Joe
I’ve found that steal is fantastic. I use it at every opportunity. Its random nature has proved a little annoying, but generally it’s provided me with a good “charge” as well as given me some good items. It allows the thief access to fulfill roles from any of the professions depending on the item you get.
