‘scuse my use of language, it’s vague sometimes. Specifically in this case, I mean that it would be a shift away from ‘the primary concern is damage’ setup we tend towards now. A more important part of maximising damage would be making sure players stayed up in semi-unpredictable situations.
~~~
If we can cut back on the combativeness for a second, there’s a legitimately interesting subquestion to this (deeply hypothetical) discussion, which is; “Would players accept behavior from something they know is an AI that they would from another player?”
Would they accept a computer controlled enemy with the skills, stats (including low for a monster health) and action patterns of a PU mesmer or (shudder the thought) a Carrion/Condition necro using corrupt boon and epidemic?
No problem:
PU Mesmer interrupts /shutdown with dazed (eg pistol whip thief, and many other skills I can think off)
Carrion/condi necro condi removal – eg purge flames (guard).
These are just two examples of using active defenses to solve this scenario – whilst being around the enemy.
In GW1 it was often players learnt from enemy mobs how to equip some fantastic skills as they mapped the skills/traits they used to be effective and carried them over into Hall of Heros or other zones in GW1.
Whatever you throw at the meta players they will get an answer for eventually using active defences. These are things players are currently doing in many zones apart from you may not be noticing it.
A good example is the champ wolf in CoE paths that has a lovely knockdown and leap which can maul pug groups if they don’t know how to handle it [eg dodge or other
]
(edited by TPMN.1483)
Also, like I said, I don’t particularly have a community except the avoid people who make demands on me community. That means I won’t join a group that demands zerk, even if the character I’m on is in a zerker set.
Hint: Dungeons are about team work not 5 solo players working together.
Boon fields work better when a team is working together and not doing XYZ independently.
A lot of “meta” is about teamwork and an expected base knowledge of class, profession , mechanics, builds and traits. Few people enjoyed the 4hr Arah pug runs when the game was released an no-one understood the mechanics and what was required. These bad experiences drew a lot of players away from Arah and still puts the fear into them thinking about it.
For the PHIW:
Is a fire field too much to ask to blast in? (For combo field might)
Is this too much of a demand from an Ele which has these on-tap across a variety of skills?
Is it fun spending 30mins on a boss and dying constantly in a team?
Is it too much to work together as a team?
— for some indivuals this is too much as they don’t believe in team composition, balance or understand how to work together to achieve a higher goal.
A lot of the LFGs are specifically formed for dungeons and the key is to join groups with your playstyle.
Why not agree to diasagree rather than attacking those who realise what a meta is and let them play it?
The meta has changed several times during this game and will evolve as time goes on (minor changes) and will not be changed by demanding across forum posts like this.
The top players will adapt quickly even if it changes and it will not affect the PHIW groups at all (such as yourself).
(edited by TPMN.1483)
Okay so some people here seem confused what the metas are or even basics of a profession. I recently (today) asked for a zerk ele which had not traited anywhere nearly correctly (or did not want to join in ts3 ) it was obvious as the DPS drop in the group was significant. When asking what build – he was kicked and explained that he was not running enough dmg and wondered why we died. (We had ran out of active defenses – based on the expected damage output/time the fight should last – we already knew what traits he was running without having to be told). When asked to swap build they refused and the reason cited was ’I’m lazy’.
I politely explained to this ele that they did not meet the requirements for the group – we proceeded to 4 man and complete it. The 4 man is easier as the bosses don’t seem to scale as much kitten man teams.
Now for anyone who genuinely is wondering what is the meta?
How can I become good at my class or profession – there are several good guides to help explain how this game actually works (as opposed to how you want it to work).
I suggest looking at the profession sections on the gw2 forum and the following site for dungeons as a starter : http://www.gw2dungeons.net/?Builds it may not contain the latest and greatest information but will certainly help you understand your profession better and put you in a better place to contribute in a meta type team.
No-one likes the feeling of being carried all the time by others.
I genuinely believe there is a vast skill gap between PHIW -> Meta -> record speed clear running. Once you experience smooth nice runs – you’ll never turn back and realise this is how the game was meant to be played and can really enjoy the content.
(edited by TPMN.1483)
Pass me the popcorn … I prefer the salty one but at a push I could have the sweet one.
This is the most interesting thread so far.
I get this if my keyboard goes into some different character set like Russian for example.
Check your input character set is English ?
Remember one thing?
Berserker gear was and always has been designed to be the optimal gear set !
But to play this you need to use active defences and dodges.
This was stated by the ANET Developers on multiple occasions.
This was stated at release, re confirmed when they did the critical damage nerf into ferocity. Celestial gear was nerfed into the ground !
You seem to want a different meta (you don’t state what) and a game designed around how you want to play.
I will play the game as designed – if they change the optimal gear set – I assure you the semi-hardcore or hardcore will be the first to adapt and a new meta will be born.
The people it hurts most is the casual crew who have managed to gear up one or two
characters in zerker and understand how to play these classes properly after 2 years – it’s likely to take them a long time to adapt as they don’t have much time to dedicate to playing the game. At most they probably get 1-2 hrs top a night to play this game (or even less).
So change for changes sake is worthless, meaningless and hurts the majority of the player base to this game – eg Casuals.
In addition:
The GW2 CDI raid thread was threatened to be closed down as people argued about gear and the zerker set being optimal. (It’s highly likely that if the content is too hard the semi-hardcore will learn in a non-zerker set then quickly move to zerker once they understand the boss mechanics etc. [Thats only IF they find it too hard]).
Don’t believe me – go read it again !
This game was designed for party content to be optimal with zerker and good team composition. Zerker is only one part of that equation.
Change for changes sake is meaningless – without considering the high impact it will have on the playerbase who are playing the game as designed.
These players are not elitist asking for people to play the game as designed!
Now they really could be elitist and demand you prove that you have a video of running a dungeon solo in 9mins or less (AC P1), solo map trinn (lvl 50) before joining a Coe dungeon run. There are groups that exist like this – but that is honestly not a bad thing either. They play there way to further push there skills and design optimal meta builds which eventually filter down to the rest of the community.
The play it my way – don’t understand the mechanics, boss tells (when to dodge) – the importance of team composition and how traits should be optimised for a team group.
Asking for a fire field I have been met with **** off and instant rage quits or an ice bow! changing banners on a warrior is sometimes met with the same reaction to make a run go smoother. This often makes runs very difficult time consuming and stressful. The problem with play it my way – is it’s extremely selfish not to balance the party and team composition to make a run easier and smoother.
I know which group I would be in any day of the week.
(edited by TPMN.1483)
I like waiting for the fifth for a dungeon run where they can run the meta.
Usually we’re already be almost complete through the first path with 4 people – (in roughly the same time with meta players -4 peeps almost = 5) and the fifth is a bonus for the additional paths.
It’s not like meta teams don’t start there run with four players (sometimes) less and we just get going and leave the LFG up.
Besides it’s good to meet fellow like minded individuals for later paths and future runs.
Is it a coincidence that the PvP designers have relaxed the matchmaking, favoring team formation and strongly hurting the solo experience?
Yes. We do not intend to ruin the experience for people that queue solo. Matchmaking was relaxed overnight because I would not be available to monitor the servers to prevent queue times from growing too large.
Sorry you have completely ruined sPvP for me.. I am an avid solo quer – and hate the whole team experience. This new format is completely bogus – MMR is broken, solo vs organised teams is broken. The 200 point minimum when you have 0-19% chance of winning is completely bogus. Get a courtyard match it’s 500vs 0. The matchmaking is messed up – and not based on experience / time spent in sPvP or PvP which needs to come into it to prevent people stacking losses to get easy matches to boost there ladder ranking,
We have asked for people to at least make an effort in a match – can be done by checking they are running around using skills hitting enemy’s.
Sorry this update to sPvP scores 0/10 on fairness. The old system I would have a decent 50-50 chance of winning – now it’s less than 20%.
Some serious work needs to be done to sPVP before I return.
Would be nice if the FoTM had an agony check ? — on the LFG.
If you don’t have the required AR for the content via LFG you won’t be able to join.
I love it when a new player who has 10AR tries to join a FoTM 50 which requires 70+ AR.
They get kicked pretty quickly from groups mid-run and often don’t understand why.
I stand and dance !
Sometimes very friendly players get the idea that I have no interest in fighting them – and stop after landing a few hits on me to allow me to carry on my merry way.
It’s very nice of the players who realise you are there to complete your exploration – the only other alternative is to wait until your server changes colour (usually on a WvW season as it’s fast n furious) and complete it then.
They created an awesome aether path – love it. I love running this path with a good group, encourages teamwork.
I think one on fh the reasons it has not been a success (or seemed to have been yet)- is not everyone has worked out the tricks (eg skills/utilities) which can make this path a real doodle. The gw2dungeons.net is missing a few for sure
We recently discovered a few things which make the final two big bosses a doddle and it’s honestly a piece of cake now.
I love dungeons !
I loved GW1 dungeons – DoA, FoW, UW, Deep, Urgoz and all that jazz.
Would love to see more team work based items as a break away from the LS.
Hi All,
Howdy dedicated FoTM runners !
You may have not noticed that doing FoTM gives your guild 0 influence – yup 0!
Dungeons award influence – 10 / 1person running. 100/3 guild members.
I would like to see FoTM also give guild influence / path on the same scaling. I cannot yet see any negatives of this idea/concept.
FoTM is the hardest content – gives good loots, karma but 0 influence to the guild.
That influence is used for lovely guild buffs (usually) which can be helpful in gaining extra gold, MF or exp.
Would be a nice little addition esp for those FoTM dedicated guilds out there (and help us feel like we are contributing to the guild when running fractal content together)
Thanks for reading.
Sounds like a good idea that FoTM one.. Shouldn’t be too hard to fix either.
No you won’t be kicked – give them 20 mins or so and things should return to normal.
Code 42:1001:9001:4375:101 – is the network error code. Trading post is not working either.
I see this weekly usually – I think it’s some back end process that’s doing something.
What is strange though today I’m getting code 42 errors at the same time and cannot add individuals to party’s as it’s giving a different error code 3014:8001:1447:101
If you have not yet done that Silverwastes Drydock JP – check out the video we put together with a few guildies on the youtube.
I quite simply just want a dominate ideology where the only expectation is to be the best that you can be with the toolsets that you have chosen, if this is a step in that direction I have no problem cooperating to see if it does anything substantial.
I dont – I like the versatility and diverse set of choices we have.
People will moan more if we change all armor of ALL players and enemies to Celestial.
The game would become very boring in a much faster period of time and make crafting meaningless. May as well make every weapon celestial whilst we are at it too if this was the case.
They should just remove stats from gear and traits entirely or make everything Celestial.
Then everything comes down to your own skill and what skills you bring along with you.
No more “Must be zerker”! Now it’s “Must be good”!
If it were just “Must be good!” I’d be pretty happy.
Then people complain that there is no ‘diversity’ at all to play a different style.
The original poster was complaining about ‘the meta’ has to end.
You have just created a NEW meta with one armor selection – and removed a large proportion of the game breaking WvW and PvP. Congrats.Except there is diversity, if not more diversity. You could pick things based on utility rather than outright damage. You could use more condition damage skills because you’d have more condition damage than being berserker. Your choices for traits wouldn’t have to rely on “Well, this gives me an upgrade to this skill or these skills, but these would give me more damage flat out”.
Well on a RABIDs set – there is more damage than a CELESTIAL Set (esp when focusing on conditions).
The problem is the game is not designed in PvE Dungeons for RABIDs to be the most efficient set (e.g. its not the META yet !).
Where in WvW – RABID is quite efficient in ripping teams apart when BALANCED with other classes in a Zerg busting team.
You have more diversity with different weapon sets, armor sets, utilities and traits – if you choose to use them than rely and focus on ‘zerk’. The right armor, weapons, utilities etc depend where you are, what you are intending to do and what your focus is.
So this is a “Learn to play” issue with the game.
Dont make the game something it is not.The ones who have spent time learning things are entitled to create metas (They Are uber dedicated and generally nice people and should be thanked for making things “easier” for all of us by passing on there infinite knowledge and wisdom instead of keeping it all locked away in the head).
HAHAHA you really should cut the flattery. Besides, knowledge is dangerous in the wrong hands as the rampant arguments about this ‘meta’ can attest.
But I’m going to assume you’re just joking in an exaggerated manner (infinite knowledge? LOL). You know if these gw2 virtuosos kept to themselves, perhaps the community wouldn’t be so ready to rend each other limb from limb yet and FGS might yet to be a thing. The only thing you really have to show for your knowledge is more virtual loot which I guess is something. . .
This was a Serious post- the only people I have found who are ready to tear knowledgable players are those who- want to play it there way, think they know everything,, don’t give a monkeys about team play, too prideful to admit they might learn something from someone (insert a whole bunch of other reasons). Most of this boils down to a persons feelings – they should be prepared to learn on each encounter something different and new.
Even when we have run something 1000s of times sometimes we still learn something new or notice something different when doing meta like runs.
It is a small but very vocal minority who do not understand this game that want to tear apart the GW2 virtuosos.
I will repeat this game was designed that Beserker is and was designed to be the best. Don’t make us dig out the original GW2 manifestos proving this.
We have been playing for >2 yrs and I know many may have never seen these items which I speak of.
It always amazes me when I ask for a fire field (looking at some eles out there) who have been playing the game for 2 years and don’t understand lava font is a fire field so we can might stack.
Unfortunately sometimes the reaction we get is to get told to go away and naff off (this is the polite version) . This can make the game difficult to play together as people don’t understand there class at all or understand team work (a second person can blast that fire field for lots of might= foes die faster)
Problem is there are lots of players who don’t understand he basic combos and how to get them.
Something is needed along this line so the Experienced and new players can learn to play at an advanced level without thousands of hours of trial and error.
Make this an optional zone throw in some AP it encourages everyone to achieve the trials and we will have a better player base out there who at least understands some of the teamwork and basic concepts better.
So this is a “Learn to play” issue with the game.
Dont make the game something it is not.
The ones who have spent time learning things are entitled to create metas (They Are uber dedicated and generally nice people and should be thanked for making things “easier” for all of us by passing on there infinite knowledge and wisdom instead of keeping it all locked away in the head).
I can think of many things where “meta” is used – eg strategy for Tequatl, dungeon runs, WvW, PvP etc etc
Once you learn to play that profession, strategy, build or technique – you may in fact be hating yourself that you cannot run it, find it difficult, wish you could do it like the pros.
These are people who have out time, effort, dedication and training into honing their skills rather than just mindlessly farming loots.
Thank you all meta creators out there pushing the status quo and thinking of new ways of doing existing things and mixing it up.
You deserve praise, admiration and a big hug – and I wish those nay-Sayers would realise you are just trying to help everyone out there.
I did every dungeon. I have my dungeon master, and I’m lv 18 fractal with 25 AR and seen every fractal and did them. I do open world more as I found a better way to make gold than run the same dungeon over and over doing the boring meta way of play. I only go back to a dungeon nowadays to get tokens for a skin I don’t have and i suffer doing it with you meta lovers.
Even then, I can just pvp now that I have every reward track open.
I don’t grind for gold in dungeons. I do them for a challenge. Standing in one spot even in fractals and killing everything AI exploited, and not doing the mechanics how they were intended, is boring and lazy and non-challenging.
I rather have a dungeon with 5 man puzzles, traps (guild puzzle style?), and doors— that seal themselves off Zelda-style until you kill every foe with good rewards and money— right now to have at least a semblance of a challenge. I did make this suggestion in the now dead dungeon forums and not one positive reply.
Goes to show who is not open to change and its not me.
I must be that jaded or want something new.
Go do lvl 50 FoTM then come talk to us about Meta. It’s obvious you don’t do dungeons regularly from this quote so may not be familiar with all the hidden bits under what you’re classifying as “meta” eg CC skills and active defences.
What you classify as exploits is not an exploit – we have had ANET Dev feedback on hag hat is an exploit and what is not as general guidelines – Stacking and moving foes to a corner (out of line of sight) is not an exploit.
Hasn’t ANET wasted enough time having to perform an initial zerker nerf as indivudla already felt it was too powerful ?
We can cry about meta all we want there will always be an optimal setup for a specific zone (game, aspect of your own real life – eg wear a suit to an interview if you want to get a well paid job).
I would prefer more and new content is developed rather than worrying about the “meta” or a “meta existing”
Now why do people hate players that know how to play there profession and can play the meta?
These individuals have put a lot of time and effort into things rather than face roll 1 in open world content.
Hi all,
This seems a little messed up – I often play in solo PvP (ranked) as it’s a hot join hopefully fighting others who are also in the same boat (not synced thrown together).
What seems to be happening is that I’m now either fighting:
*Organised teams on voice comms
*leg champs and ranked individuals who are 20-30 ranks above me.
Net result is a lot more losses in the game and a desire to not want to play PvP much anymore.
The loss of the solo ranked style is a big loss as it was my favourite type of PvP.
Thanks for reading.
Dear Leo-G-4501.
Think you need to think about the mechanics a lot more – these fit for a different style of MMO and not a GW2 one. This would require a almost complete rewrite of the manifesto, skills and mobs would all have to be rebalanced
Feel free to go make your own MMO that fits how you want to play.
I can see good reasons why a LFG may want a specific class eg PVP- for team composition when a team want to try a synergy of something together.
Any other improvements people would like to see on the LFG system ?
Have you met the new nomad thief meta in WVW with mercy runes?
- Guaranteed barrel of laughs to see how long it takes people to hunt and destroy you.
There are ‘metas’ for everything – always will be .
This is something that could work well and be like ‘a sensei training master’ school side area.
It would be a good idea- I have seen so many people not understand combo fields which ones make what and the boost it gives.
Something which is repeatable would be fantastic and go into things in real detail without having to read the wiki when things change.
Please post any other LFG improvements you would like to see.
(It’s a simple fact players forming the LFG can have requirements for those looking to join organised group content runs).
Many Thanks
Hi all,
It would be really useful IF:
A party can specify what profession they are looking for and the LFG has a selectable filter preventing individuals on non-matching professions from joining (and specifying a level cap- eg ANY or LVL 80 Only !)
We have all had cases where lvl 50 individuals with 100 AP try to join a group – not understanding (or reading the LFG) to be instantly kicked and not understanding why or people that enter content on the wrong profession (not what the group is looking for) to then be kicked.
The amount of times we have to repost looking for a last slot to fill a particular class can be highly frustrating and annoying.
This would help individuals who have chosen not to read the heartache of moving to a zone to be kicked (and entering a dungeon or fractal) and the feeling of rejection.
Thank you for reading.
Many Thanks
Zerk 4 life!
The answer is simple- learn to play it (GW2) and your class well.
You will find that once you have mastered your class, each foes type of attack and your active defenses the need for passive defenses and other armor sets is mitigated in all PvE.
(including Silverwastes, Cursed Shore, DryTop, dungeons and FoTM ).
Why doesn’t this game have a trinity ?
(Why can’t I use my gear stats to make a trinity?)
I wanna play a healing monk, right?
Prehaps your the last one alive cause your wearing nomads gear?
You successfully kill the rest of the team by not contributing enough DPS so all skills and dodges are on cool down.
So if the new meta is stack on spider queen as it spawns and it dies in 2s – in full zerk with good people that don’t die as they use active defenses vs bad zerk (who don’t know about active defenses) that’s a problem and you will refuse to run with zerkers?
Leo – It’s fun playing fast.
Please don’t make presumptions about “how I play” (>5K active hrs sitting here).
The game developers made this game without a trinity – you seem not to want to accept this. It was part of the mandate of the game.
Yup – we run zerk meta.
Taking alpha on his spawn spots. (no box stacking)
Just need more of a clued up team
Zerker meta is caused by one and only thing, absence of essential “roles” in PvE, aka trinity or similar system.
So until the game gets total overhaul, there will be zerker meta. Anet is clearly ok with that, so there’s no way to change that.tl,dr: take it or leave it.
Please see my post a few posts above wherein I show how wrong this is.
Please accept that not everyone have to share your opinion.
The post above is about your opinion (it’s definitely good to have one, nothing against that), but the truth is that everything PvE related is about DPS and nothing else. So that’s what created zerker meta and that’s the reason why it’s still there.
This is my opinion, you’re free to have your own of course.However, the game is built that way, especially in the dungeon scenario, where most of the dangerous “mechanics” can be skipped/glitched/avoided, therefore are not existant for speedrunners and is possible to run those in full zerker gear because of this.
No ‘mechanics’ are skipped – we actively ‘defend’ against them. You just dont notice the videos where we use control skills to prevent these from happening.
Please go play a different game if you want a holy trinity or traditional MMO with elves, death necros, fairys, vampires and such like.
I can even recommend a few for you !
Tell this to the trap floor in CM, where a shadowstep/another kind of teleport through the ceiling from the floor under it skips it, will ya? Or the last boss in the same dungeon (don’t know the path now), where it’s often intentionally bugged into a rock, so he can’t reach players outside of his AOE attacks which are easily dodgable….
Also, I neither look for another MMO, nor want a trinity system here, I just would like to see working PvE, not skip/glitch fest like it’s now…
Skipping mobs is a valid mechanic and part of meta play.
While I’m at it : " Stelth is a valid mechanic" and is encouraged to “skip” large portions of play.
Glitching is an exploit – let’s not discuss those here.
I understand these are probably your experiences – and this seems off topic to “meta” play tbh. Prehaps start a new thread?
We are talking about the “meta” and responding to the OP on the basis of “this meta has to end”
Yes – we’re in zerker gear and the mechanics are not non-existant.
It is posts like this which show how uninformed individuals really are and unfortunatly seem to generate ‘hate’ towards those who are playing the game as designed.
The game was designed for ‘berserker’ to always be the best gear relying on ‘active’ defenses.
If you want to Role Play or ‘passive’ defense instead thats down to you – but this is not how the game is designed. The game design was quite clearly stated at release.
I am happy to play the game as designed by the developers rather than insist it becomes a different game with a holy trinity (like every other MMO out there – which most people are familiar with). The problems of moving away from a holy trinity MMO is a complete mind-set change on how to play.
Please go play a different game if you want a holy trinity or traditional MMO with elves, death necros, fairys, vampires and such like.
I can even recommend a few for you !
We can tell if you are not wearing the zerker gear due to lack of DPS.
Don’t think we are stupid
I think you misunderstand the meta and what is require to play it…
Active Defenses !!- eg Blinds/Aegis/interrupts etc etc
All play a role – the DPS element is also there.
If you just try to DPS – you will be dead.
This is where you first need to understand the meta properly before you can properly comment on it.
The OP isn’t complaining about zerging being the meta – it’s " zerker".
The design principle of the game was always ‘zerker’ would be the most efficient and best stats- this was stated at release (2 yrs ago).
The alternatives are non-meta and usually are not as efficient.
Don’t like it /- go form a non-meta team of your own with no requiremnts.
3hr ARAh P3 (non-meta) runs vs 25mins (meta pugs) vs 12 mins (high end guild runs)- I know which I prefer.
~7min SE P1 (good pugs) vs 20 min SE P1 (bad non-meta) vs 3 mins (record runs)
I think – you get my point.
It’s not about saving 2-3 mins or getting kicked.
It’s about saving a lot of time
I think players should stop complaining about ‘run this’ or ‘that’ builds.
Get with the programme – accept it, try it embrace it for a bit.
Once you’ve seen if it works or doesn’t work for you then you’re in a better position to comment on the meta (as by then you actually understand why it is there).
Once you understand the meta and team composition fully you’re in a better position to tweak and optimise a teams build (Just like a music conductor in an orchestra)
Games will always have a meta:
Racing games will always have a found optimal car setup (meta) – brake balance, gear ratio, tyres, suspension etc for a given track/car
MMOs always will have an optimal team makeup for a specific location (meta).
Solo players will have a meta for MMOs – which is different than a team meta.
The meta is constantly changing depending on updates, mechanics and new strategies (usually by those who already understand the meta and how each profession truly works ).
One of the design principles of this game is that zerker would always be the most rewarding for skilled players (speed and efficiency) but mean you have a higher likelihood of dying if you really don’t play as a team with active defenses/cc skills.
This game is a different type of MMO without the ‘tank’,‘healer’ and ‘DPS’ segregated roles. If you want that game – go somewhere else.
GW1 had specific meta bars for running certain content (FOW, UW, DOA)- as we completed runs in (7mins before dhumm dhumm- both FoW/UW; 30 min DOAs). Non-meta groups often took 1-4hrs to complete the same content.
Time is the most expensive commodity – it cannot be bought or replaced.
Once people understand the basic mechanics – hone those skills and become good at playing in a shorter timeframe.
Learn the meta, understand why it works (before moaning without justification- as your not getting accepted to those “good reliably fast groups”).
We can tell if you’re pinging zerker gear and not using it – be warned we have ways of knowing if the DPS is lower than expected.
Don’t expect to be reinvited to parties if you try this and run nomads gear.
Dungeon Bingo!!
