That’s the thing… Warrior sucks in PvP. Hundred Blades and GS in general are vastly overrated. I’ve leveled 2 warriors now, and the thing about hundred blades is it’s great for PvE when things won’t move out of the way, but anything with a brain is going to kill you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been killed by medium and light armor classes in WvW. I’m actually working on my second warrior, with a hammer build of power, toughness, etc. because all the work I put into my GS War is kind of dissapointing, given that I can’t beat anything one on one, because… you guessed it! People see hundred blades, they move.
War is the only DD focused heavy job in the game currently, so it’s going to get some love on that side of things. It’s baffling to me how people are still finding this surprising. If you think it’s so uber-great, go level it. It’s not like you have to do anything to earn the right to be a warrior.

What’s funny is, I’ve always wondered how it would be in an MMO if the world changed without a formal announcement. One of the biggest draws to any online game is the feeling that the game world is persistent and not dependent on the player to exist… seemed that it would make the world feel more alive if things changed on occasion without a “Be here at such & such a time to witness event X”… and it almost works. Too bad people are kittening so much! This could be kind of a cool thing.
Only problem is, after the Karka event, everybody is scared they’re going to miss the best opportunity they’ll have at getting a precursor this year, because the rewards were so out of proportion to the rest of the game for that specific event.
I love that Gullik Oddsson makes an appearance!
I think the problem you’re going to run into with these argument is, there isn’t anything that you “need” in this game that is difficult to get. I feel like Legendaries exist in this game only because they have to exist for it to be a true MMO. There is no advantage to having one. I guess I should say I feel that’s not the best thing… specifically I think that if you’re willing to put that much effort into something, you should get more than a fancy skin. But for the purposes of this game, you don’t need to do anything difficult to be able to function in a particular style for a given profession. It’s all superficial.
Sure, people have manipulated the game for great financial gain, which makes it impossible for the rest of us to compete with the inflation. A game like this almost provides the least amount of motivation for players to do this though, and always remember…. good things happen to bad people, but only for a while!
Guilds owning specific spots is a great idea. When I’m exploring sometimes you see a fort or an island or something and think, that’s where I’d live if I could! WvW seems to be the replacement for the traditional guild battles though. It’s pretty nice because you don’t even actually have to be in a specific guild with rules, event times, etc. to do it… and yet at the same time, there are huge advantages to joining a WvW guild if that’s what you want to do.

I can think of a few jokes that start with “You might be an altaholic if…”
Me personally, my first character was a norn warrior. I tried a human ele, norn Mesmer, Guardian, Ranger and Necro, but none of them really took hold… but then I finally got a decent video card. I’m currently leveling my second norn warrior, because I love the combo and the game just looks gorgeous. I missed so many of the nuances the first time through! It probably seems weird to be leveling almost the same exact character, but the small changes make it perfect to me and I wouldn’t want to be playing any other race/job combo, so screw it! Have fun doing what you want to do. It’s a game, after all.
To people saying the 1500 GS guy was a moron…
Yeah. Maybe he was. What you have to realize is that perhaps he had the resources to purchase a precursor, but what he did instead was, he showed exactly how bad the odds are of getting one in the forge. When you go 0/1500, statistically speaking the odds must absolutely horrid. That’s what he was attempting to discover, and it’s something that shows specifically how RMT and the day-trader population have been able to manipulate the price to make it impossible for an average joe to get one.
Thanks for the update though, Anet! I gotta say, it must be frustrating to you guys to see your attempts at communication causing such negative feedback all the time, but there are those of us who realize that in the big picture it’s great to have a dev team willing to speak to us about what they’re thinking. You can’t make everybody happy all the time, but trying your best to tell us what’s going on is really great.
Great Axe!!! I was shocked when they didn’t have it in from the get go. Even the Norn artwork ads had them carrying great axes before release.
What I’d really like to know is, how they plan on introducing them. For example, will there be legendaries, if so, will they be obtained in the same way… also, will they be added to dungeons, etc.
Personally I do it for the chance at a precursor. Shatterer and Teq take no time at all to kill, and Jormag is good exp & drops during the pre-event, so why not? With the dragon timer website it’s really easy to coordinate with other activities, and takes very little effort. Plus… they’re dragons! What’s not to like.
Personally I love the new game. You all have to realize, GW1 took years to reach the point where we all remember it. This game is still less than 6 months out of the gates. Think about it in terms of console game development…. the games we’re playing now compared to their predecessors are light years beyond, simply because of the development of the systems over time. Those systems always put out their best games at the tail end of the lives of the systems, because the game devs catch up to the technology. There’s alot of improvements to be made, and some of the design concepts leave a bit to be desired such as lack of guild halls, lack of personal character homes or any real customization outside of character armor, and the Legendary grind being crazy, but there’s alot of time to make improvements in those areas. Best thing is, it’s FTP so if you get annoyed, just take a break for a few months and check it out after the updates to see if it’s better!
Wow… I hope the devs watch that Rift video for some inspiration! That was amazing.
I had to delete old mail as well… there was nothing saying it was full, reward just didn’t show up until I deleted old mail.
Thanks Anet!!
Eotn was awesome. The norn storyline and history were great! Also… if you haven’t read “Ghosts of Ascalon”, there’s a fantastic Norn character in it named Gullik Oddsson. After reading that book and hearing that Norn was going to be playable, it was a no-brainer.
I think you took the whole “most dedicated” thing wrong. I mean… think about it. How exactly should they describe the type of player hitting the Legendary wall? Obsessed? Most no-life? Most willing to waste countless hours of their time in a game?
The phrase “most dedicated” was probably used as a polite way to describe players who had spent the most time playing, and had reached the Legendary wall. You’re reading too much into it.
I didn’t like the event for many of the same reasons as you. But the thing is, in pretty much every MMO that has ever existed, the highest priced items inevitably become cheaper as time goes on and the game advances. That’s going to be the case for Legendary weapons, Orichalcum, Tier 3 exotic gear, etc… as inflation occurs and new equipment is added. You can see it happening now with certain lodestones since they’ve been added to the rewards in the new dungeons, and everybody is spamming it because it’s new content.
Just try not to invest in anything too heavily before an update. It’s pretty much every MMO’s rule of thumb. At least you still have a Precursor, which last I checked, is still pretty impressive!
I think about this alot, because I’m really looking forward to it! It would be amazing to have it exist in the persistent world, but the problem would be running out of space. Ideally, if they created a separate server for player housing it might be possible to have that “city” atmosphere… but that would probably be asking too much. ANET seems to enjoy creating the impossible though, so who knows.
It would be really cool to have a Sims-type ability to create your own home though… and it would be equally amazing to have neighbors, defend your towns when they gets attacked, etc. God knows, every village I run through I see houses and wish I could live in them, put stuff on the walls, display weapons, plant trees, etc.
It really is pretty amazing that Great Axe does not exist in this game…. maybe they’re waiting to bring it in with the Dwarven race as playable. It makes sense, and would work as a great promotion!
In ffxi it took me a year to get my first character to max level, which at the time was pretty much par for the course. It was quite an experience, but one I’d never do again. If I miss anything, it’s the free time I used to have for MMO’s!
