You know, I hit that wall recently. I just kept playing here and there and went on vacation IRL… came back and got into WvW. It can be a lot of fun! Also fell in love with a new profession as well, so my love for the game has never been stronger… and I really have no idea why. Sometimes you just need a break.
Originally I thought stealth was OP… so I rolled a thief recently. According to the thief forums, it’s a job that has a high learning curve…. I’m starting to actually believe that. If you go and watch some of the Thief stealth videos where they’re winning 2 v 1’s and 3 v 1’s, those thieves are exceptionally skilled. There’s one in particular where a guy recorded his fight and then went back and recorded his thought processes over what he had done, and it’s incredible how quick and precise his decision making was, and the incredible depth of his knowledge regarding the judgement of an encounter.
After watching that, it became apparent to me that yes, stealth is a powerful skill in WvW. There is no punishment for using it like in PvP where you can’t claim an area while stealthed. However, that guy was an incredible player. I think he probably could have beaten me on almost any job, just due to how quickly he assesses situations. Now… it’s possible he just posted recordings of his best fights and then did a voice over in hindsight, which we all know is 20/20… but still. Some of them are just really kitten good players. Maybe it’s just a profession that attracts exceptional players who aren’t inclined to rely on the zerg for safety, due to it’s role as a roamer/solo job. Idk… just a thought.
I’d like to see them bring back Cantha, with a Samurai profession. Main weapon could be a 2 handed great katana with a powerful 1 hit F1 that powered up as you hit people with your auto attack, and maybe some samurai themed heavy armor. Would be awesome! Maybe could have ninja as a medium, stealth and evasion based profession with shadow tanking and dual single handed katanas.
You know, I get why they did it. They didn’t want large guilds jumping from server to server and essentially controlling the WvW rankings. Its kind of nice, given that those types of shifts are usually caused by drama and general kittenation. But as a tier 1 player, I would have probably jumped down to one of the lowest tiers by now. Contrary to popular belief, being in tier 1 is not always fun. I’m on SoR and I love my guild, but you can’t run anywhere solo for very long, and sometimes it can take literally hours to even grab a tower because there’s just so many people on BG. Zerg or die is pretty much the stage of tier 1 WvW lately, which gets old in a hurry. The server transfer fee is way to high. Here’s an idea… make the server transfer fee like gem purchasing in that it adjusts based on how many people do it. That way a solo guy such as myself could jump servers every once in a while, but the big guilds couldn’t just up and leave cause their leaders panties got in a bunch over something petty.
How do you counter a thief exactly? Serious question. I just rolled a thief yesterday because every time I see one run at me in WvW… I know I’m about to die. So I figured, why not try it? I’m just curious what people do against a thief because I never seem to beat them. Once they go into stealth mode its game over.
Yeah the dungeon design is great! I really wish I wouldn’t have tried to rush into it on thefirst day. The fact that it was temporary content had me itching to get in there so I wouldn’t miss it. It really was a fantastic dungeon.
Trolls are just a part of life. Its important to remember that people who take pleasure in annoying others are generally very unhappy and unsatisfied individuals… and that karma is a kitten! What goes around comes around. I can think of a few people that I know who take pleasure in messing with other people, and they are all without exception miserable in their lives and constantly screwing things up and then having to deal with the repercussions of their mistakes. Just take the high road and watch… its more fun that way.
top 10? let’s see off the top of my head in no particular order…
10. More variety of skins for weapons and armor
-pretty self explanatory. When you can identify by sight every piece of armor in the game, there needs to be more variety. People need a goal in an MMO to keep them playing. I’d love for there to be so many freaking skins that you don’t see the same weapon or armor for days at a time. Why not?
09. WvW exclusive skins
-I love WvW, but there’s no reward. Server pride is moderately fun for a while, but ultimately there’s nothing tying you to the people who just so happen to play on the same server as you. There needs to be rewards for doing WvW to get people interested. I’d love to wear a helmet or body piece that was WvW exclusive and displayed my accomplishments.
08. Need more tiers of race exclusive weapons and armor
- Tier 1,2,3 armor is really awesome, but after 8 months it’s all been seen and done. Everybody’s acquired their favorites already and been wearing them for almost a year now. We need more race exclusive armor and weapon skins.
07. New Zones
-We’ve got this incredible map potential with all these amazing areas waiting to be explored, like the deldrimor area, crystal desert, etc…. but I’ve almost got map completion on two characters already. We need either a hard mode type event like the one from GW1 (not necessarily my choice) to spice things up, or we need to open up some new zones. I want to see something new, as I’m sure everyone else does.
06. Add some underwater awesomeness
-Anet created a pretty cool underwater portion of this game, but people avoid it like the plague because the weapons suck and there’s no underwater cities or events. You’ve essentially got the potential for a battleground without gravity… make it awesome. Give us ruins, and treasures, and deep sea adventures and such. Also, make the water deeper, darker, and more menacing. Make the seas choppy sometimes. Add storms and shipwrecks… ship battles, you know. Awesomeness. I want to get knocked off a ship in WvW, which I was using to siege a castle, and get thrown into the water. Sometimes it feels like you’re swimming in a pretty fish tank with no character. The underwater graphics are beautifully done… use it!
05. Personal Home Instance
Add it. Now. It would be number one but I couldn’t think of anything else off the top of my head for number 5. I want a house with furniture, a wife, a front lawn, maybe some neighbors. I want to spend my money on pointless paintings of Hoelbrak for my living room. I want a back porch, with the heads of my enemies posted on spikes in my back lawn for my children to poke with sticks. In the almighty words of the wolf… pretty please. With sugar on top. Give us a kittening home instance.
04. Guild Halls
It’s guild wars. no need to even go into detail.
03. Robes
I can’t believe how crappy it is that our light armor doesn’t include an incredible variety of robes. I want a wizard, man. With tons of varieties of robes, and maybe some bookshelves in my home instance where I can study spells or something. I want a robe for every day of the week, not a pair of hot pants or a billowy umbrella shaped cloth disaster that makes my butt look four times as wide as my waist. I guess 03. part B would be, give ele a decent staff. An ele with a dagger just doesn’t seem right to me. Staff should be the most powerful weapon on an ele. That’s it, the end. No conversation necessary.
02. Great Axe
Where is the GA? You have a Norn holding a great axe on your first promo pictures from before the game came out. How is this not a weapon in the game? It is honestly a travesty of justice that this weapon was not included in this game from the moment it went live. A travesty of freaking justice.
01. Dwarves
I’m not even sure how to say this in a way that isn’t terribly insulting…. but I’ll try. Whoever decided that Dwarves should be “extinct” and not play a role in this game should really feel bad about that decision. Not only are they non-existent as a race, but their ruins provide perhaps the greatest single opportunity for you guys to develop an amazing historical approach to your story writing and game development. They’re extinct? How did they go extinct? Where are their underground Moria-esque ruins? If they’re not extinct, where are they now? Can I play one? Do they have armor and weapons for me to wear? These are the questions that beg for answers.
Now get to work, Anet! We’re almost a year in. Announce a expansion or something… people are leaving your game in droves. There’s nothing much to do once you hit 80 and have spent a decent amount of time farming, in WvW, or doing PvP. Your game is stagnating. I just spent 45 minutes typing this instead of playing it, because I HAVE NO IN GAME GOAL LEFT. Give me some awesomeness, please and thank you!!!

I’d say at this point, anything that people want to do repeatedly is good content. They nerfed plinx, people got upset and started running AC. They nerfed AC, people got upset and started running CoF.
When you look at it from a pragmatic perspective, what changed in those scenarios as time passed? People didn’t stop farming things. They simply changed what they were farming. The most significant change that Anet should care about at this point is that people got kitten off repeatedly and lost love for the game. With this broke kitten economy and the rediculous prices of precursors, they’re going to have to introduce more and more forms of currency to fix the way people get rewarded in this game, so gold is going to become more and more obsolete. No use fixing the gold rush this late and kitten people off in the process… just add a couple of purchasable items each patch to keep gold “relevant” so you can still get your gem purchases, and add new forms of currency (i.e., dungeon tokens, laurels, guild merits, etc) for the items you know people will strive for. The precursor scavenger hunt could fix the gold inflation issue, but nerfing stuff never will because the people who are rich and are controlling the economy are already rich. Hopefully they’re smart enough to realize this stuff… in addition to that, adding guild and player housing could add another set of in game goals, perhaps with additional currency forms and/or crafts, and we could have ourselves a nice little MMO on our hands here.
You know. If they’re smart. Or we could just add more dragons, because dur hur dragons is good dur hur

With the ability to play music in the music player, GW2 opens up alot of exciting possibilities for us! What music do you listen to while you’re playing? I’m looking to diversify my library… right now I’ve got a couple favorites…
Journey Soundtrack (by Austin Wintory, not Journey the band lol)
Diablo II Soundtrack
Far Cry 3 Soundtrack
Various Assassin’s Creed Soundtrack
Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks for your input!
U know what’s funny about this is, I’m constantly thinking that with a full time job and a 1 year old those college kids must have so much more time to play than I do!!
Well Anet has definitely got one thing right… anything with flames shooting out of it is automatically cool as hell.
The game is great fun! I think my expectations were too high though. They did an amazing job with the creation of the gameplay and world of Tyria in general. The problem I’m having now is that replayability is becoming a factor. Once you’re fully geared out there just isn’t much to do besides grind out a legendary.
Also, where did all of the lore go? I think they have made several huge mistakes in their story development concerning the importance of the gods and the race of dwarves, and just threw a bunch of dragons at us. They totally left the gods, mursaat, dwarves, etc. out of the world and character creation, and yet… they didn’t really delve into the ruins of their culture, where they went, why they went there, or bring the relics of arguably the premiere race of the original game into play at all in the construction of weapons or armor….. I know they’re probably just waiting for an expansion to bust out the dwarves, but it’s questionable at best to introduce the game without them in my opinion. And Cantha… god. I might as well quit while I’m ahead.
Yes. The game is great fun! Now give us some kittening dwarves, a great axe, and a personal instance kittenit
I loved Braham too. He was honestly the first NPC in this game that I felt compelled to help. Hopefully he has more involvement in GW2 in the future!
idk, it’s not like these are epic events. the lighthouse being destroyed, the lion, the karka event… it was cool because it was a one time thing. In reality that karka event was a terrible lag fest with a chest at the end that people freaked out about. Would you really feel bad if you had missed any of it? It was exciting at the time, but if they reran the event without the chest, would you even go? Like people said earlier, the holiday stuff will come around again as well… it doesn’t feel like a bad thing to me.
Oh god, where to start lol
1. WvW rank – I haven’t explored this very much, maybe it’s easy to rank up. Seems crazy that this would be character based though. I like running around on different jobs in WvW for variety, but the ranking system pigeon-holes you into sticking with one character.
2. All armor & weapons – I feel like if you earned it, you should be able to share it amongst your characters. It’s bad enough that once you equip something you can never sell it… I know other games have had it setup this way, but for a game that’s trying to break the trends and be more accessible, this would be a nice way to do it.
Hi guys,
I really think it would be nice if you allowed us to waypoint back to the start of a dungeon while in combat. I know the waypoints are designed to not allow combat rezzing, because you don’t want people just dying and running back to zerg over and over again, but it really sucks that there is no way to get up.
I just had two d/c’s while in a dungeon, and came back dead. My group had to fight the boss without me because I couldn’t do anything but lay there… it was really annoying that I couldn’t do anything at all and had to watch them struggle through the fight. I know it’s just a single experience, but the game shouldn’t be designed in such a way that there is no solution to this… even if I could have ran all the way back I could have joined in the fight, while having the opening wp allowed for rezzes only, you could still eliminate the zerg rush problem.
Thanks for your consideration!
I’m only rank 10 as well, but a monetary reward would go a long way towards making me want to do it. If you’re at all into Pve it feels like a waste of time to PvP. I know the devs want to keep the areas separated, but some controlled crossover might invigorate PvP.
One thing they got right was adding laurels to PvP rewards. Thank freakin god they did that. A lot of the smaller changes were really nice additions to a fine looking game. That the new weapon skins are black lion chest rewards is pretty terrible though. Not only just the cash grab aspect of it… but it really paints a scary picture of how they will be moving. I mean… to even add new instances and not put them in as rewards is pretty messed up. Good patch to overall gameplay though.
Yeah this is the reason why I’ve been using Dhuumseal (spelling?) since release. I’m not sure what the attraction is to carrying a big slab of rectangular metal on your back, but apparently one of the dev’s thinks it’s pretty hot.
Wow that’s amazing lol
Well ANet, a crappy game nobody has ever heard of has player housing now. What are you guys waiting for?
This is one of the few things I’d really love to hear a dev respond to. I’d love player housing, personally. I know it’s been mentioned before as something they are working towards, but that was a few months ago.
So, I’ve been running around randomly in game, looking for things to do. It’s a fun thing to do, as the game is created in such a way that alot of times, it’s fun to take a break from the farming grind, dungeon runs, etc. and just sit back and enjoy the world… which is a sign of a good game, imo. So grats on that!
Anywho, I ran into an event where a Shaman was killing Norn children, and had been tracked by an NPC and was up and waiting to be attacked. A realization hit me as I was talking to the NPC… and that was, I WANTED to kill this Shaman because of what it was doing to my fellow norn’s kids. Having been doing the farming grind for various things for quite a while now, it had been a long time since I truly felt an emotional investment in doing something specific in the game.
And that’s when this idea occured to me… have you guys considered giving us the ability to start a family, perhaps as part of the home area you’ve mentioned doing for us, and perhaps have events where we have to do things for them, rescue them, bring things home to them, etc? Maybe we could even create their look on some sort of generic character NPC creator or something, to increase that level of emotional investment that gradually becomes lacking in any MMO as you play it for months and years, tbh.
Just a thought! I think all the time about how irl my family and son are the most important thing in the world to me, and I would do anything for them. It would be cool to tap into that native emotional response, in a video game. Would give more significance to completing an event if your kid was captive, for example.
Thanks for your time, and good luck on your future efforts! Love the game so far.

This would be great if it was account bound. I’m currently agonizing over gear that I labored for being stuck on one character, when I’ve got two characters leveled with the same job but different specs. Basically I’ve got two warriors, one offensive and one defensive. However, all of my tier 3 armor is soulbound to one of them, so the other one (which I find myself using 80% of the time) looks like crap! It really bothers me because there’s no way I’m going to farm up another 60 or 80 gold just to get my second character into tier 3 armor, but this game is so alt-friendly leveling wise it feels like we SHOULD be able to swap gear between characters.
What’s weird about the whole “town clothes” thing, is that there are only two sets of town clothes. I’m sure when events come out in the future, we’ll be able to earn masks and stuff, but for the time being it is really amazing how worthless the whole town clothes feature is.
Honestly I’d rather see them learn from their mistakes and move on, as opposed to constantly messing with old content. Zhaitan fight wasn’t too exciting by any stretch, but the setting of the final fight on the airship was actually pretty cool. Problem now is, they backed themselves into a corner because Zhaitan is dead and yet his undead minions still exist.
I feel the same way about AC coincidentally… it wasn’t bad the way it was. People enjoyed it, and it wasn’t like the rewards or time spent getting them were making millionaires overnight. They should have focused on creating new content with improved mechanics. Hopefully that doesn’t come across too critical, but given that these forums exist for the player’s opinions, I figured I’d give my two cents.
It’s tough to strike the balance between taking your name too seriously, and not seriously enough. The worst is when you come up with that perfect name, and then you go to create the character and the name is taken! When “Tagus” was taken at launch, I totally freaked out and came up with a horrible name… and leveled the character to 80 before accepting the fact that I failed miserably.
Speaking of… when’s that name changer coming out again?
You know, I totally agree with this. In all of my favorite stories, from lotr, to the dark tower, game of thrones, even dragon age: origins…. there’s a certain darkness and maturity present that’s somehow entirely absent here. Fortunately it’s an MMO so the story isn’t as important. Gameplay and fun factor are. Hopefully they come up with some cool Villains and baddies in the future.

I feel like both sides of the argument are true in this case. The game is definitely overhyped by anet, but its a great game. The chest changes help out the ppl that can only get to a couple a day, but the dragon grinders are screwed. Dailies are easy, but feel like an obligation. Dungeons are great, but they keep messing with them instead of creating new ones. They gave us a bunch of new content with the guild stuff, but it’s inaccessible.
idk… wouldn’t that remove every shred of excitement and spontaneity from the dragons? Then you could literally set a stop watch and go afk until the exact second before the dragons arrive. There would be no build up, no bad jokes in map chat, no fear of barely missing the spawn time, etc
Dragon timer is pretty good.
talk about feast or famine lol…. we just had two people get it in one kill. This thing is gonna be worth 2g by this time next week. Just goes to show… if the entire game population doesn’t know how to get something, chances are there’s something wrong with it.
Problem I see is, 100g as a limiting factor has no bearing on the quality of someone’s leadership.
So I’ve been thinking about this a little since Colin’s interview, and something just occurred to me as I was playing. A commander stepped in front of me during an Orr event and lag hit, and his commander icon changed from blue to a brilliant green. It happened so quickly though, I thought he had a green icon… followed him and realized that was not the case.
Long story short, have you guys considered giving commanders different color icons to differentiate between them? Obviously if you play the game enough it becomes apparent that not all commanders are created equal. In fact, of the 40 or so different Commanders I’ve seen, there’s only 3 or 4 who’s names I can even remember enough to know that, this guy is worth following, this guy is terrible, etc….
With the 100g pricetag being the only real requirement, there’s no real “hard stop” from a crappy player grabbing commander status… just a price tag, as Colin noted in that interview I’m talking about.
Perhaps you could use the idea that Colin had in that interview, and let people vote on which Commanders of the community to rank up to different colors, or perhaps (and maybe this is even better), create WvW prowess achievements as a ranking system for Commanders?
Just a thought! I’m not even a commander myself, but unfortunately as the system exists now, it invites a certain “Commander is just 100g for a blue triangle” mentality among the player base.
I disagree. They probably saw alot of complaints, opened this up to see them, and realized upon seeing them that they were baseless.
I think this is going to be great. The big guilds didn’t have much of a purpose… now they do. The game is so small group friendly, there almost wasn’t a point to being in a big guild. I’m sure that “guild event” guilds will pop up, and with the functionality available to join different guilds, if there’s a difficulty just jump in a bigger group for the events that require it, and mosey on back to your little 3-man guild for socializing.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Something in this game HAS to require a strong guild, or at least present something resembling a challenge.
yeah, i disagree entirely with that. The only problem with that zone is there’s nothing to do there. Now there will be… problem solved! It’s a perfect spot for new content.
Funny how in his description of guild events, he suggests that they’re not exactly sure how it’s going to be used by the guilds, and that it will be through the process of us playing it that they will learn how to further develop it. I kind of like that. It sounds like they’re throwing us a curveball, and how we approach it as players will direct their future endeavors. Sounds fun!
Assuming of course, you’re in a decent guild.
Funny this thread came up, because i spent an hour last night trying to pick an amulet. I guess we’ll just have to carry a bunch of gear to swap situationally.
It’s really hard to find much merit in any complaint regarding that website. It’s so easy, fast, and just plain old efficient that it’s just mindblowing. I’ve had consistently positive experiences through using it, and the negative experiences usually last a total of 10 minutes before you’re back finding a new group and completing your objective.
I kid you not, it would amaze me if anet could create a system that would improve on what that website already does so well. Not to even sound negative… it would just be really hard from a dev’s position to create something better than that. It almost feels to me that it would be more intelligent on their part to acknowledge how awesome that site is publicly and just let them do what they do, and focus on other areas of in-game improvement. I know they won’t do that because they probably feel “responsible” for providing in an official capacity the service that lfg.com provides… but it’s gonna be tough, especially now that it’s such a part of the “meta”, as they like to call our collective behavioral habits.
At any rate, it’s a great site. The only shortcomings that come from it come from the players you find on it, as opposed to the site itself. “User error”, so to speak.
Daily healer isn’t too bad if you do a dungeon… people tend to go down alot! The only real problem i have with dailies is the reset time. I don’t know why they decided to go with 6pm cst, but it’s nonsensical. I’ve played games with overnight and japanese midnight (10am cst) start times, and they’ve all felt more intuitive. It’s odd to remember the reset falls right in primetime like that.
It is kind of wierd. I like to go to lowbie zones and dodge centaur archers because they can’t really kill you… but it is actually really annoying if you’re kiting and dodging for a couple minutes and somebody runs up and kills your mob so you have to go find another one.
I think it’s more that the dodge achievement is kitten than anything else.
I think instead of asking, “why ascended gear needs better stats”, if you don’t like it, you should be asking yourself, “why do I care”. If the answer is that you do not want to jump through the hoops but feel inadequate knowing you’re not pursuing the best equipment available… I’m here to tell you… nobody cares. The best thing about GW2 is you can do whatever you want. If you don’t want to pursue it, don’t! The most important attributes in any situation in this game is the willingness to adapt and the capability of playing smart (i.e. – not being a weak link and screwing up the group effort).
Nobody cares if you have ascended gear. There is no substitute for common sense in this game, statistically or otherwise.
Ahh… kids these days. Think you’ve got it bad? Gather round and have a listen. In my day, (aka when i played ffxi, an olde mmo), there was a dragon named Tequatl. He was a fickle beast. Tequatl of yore had a spawn time of 24 hours. He could only be fought by one linkshell at a time, or guild as you kiddies call them nowadays. So linkshells would spend thousands of dollars in real life money for a claim bot. And for what, you ask? Teq dropped a pair of boots that dropped less than 5% of the time, which gave you a 12% movement speed boost… that were the only speed boost in the game and nothing else dropped them. As for me….. bring on the chickens, I says!
He wasn’t terrible compared to the others, but it would have been nice if they had really knocked that one out of the park. You need something special for your main plotline character.
That’s the problem… when compared to other sub games, this one doesn’t have a leg to stand on yet. Maybe someday it could potentially, but they’d have to do alot. The pressure is on those sub games to constantly compete for their subs… they can’t push updates back, over-promise, etc.
People will take a lot more from Anet without quitting because of it, imo. It’s a fantastic game, assuming no subs. Subs are a game changer.
I might have at the start. I was playing another sub MMO that I quit to play GW2, so it would have made sense to do it then. Instead of paying for monthly fees I’ve bought gold a couple of times when I was nearing the completion of something and my time>money, so I’ve probably paid about the same as I would have with a sub.
That being said, I’d quit the game immediately if they ever tried to throw a sub at us. It would be a cash grab, and would pretty much tell the players that’s all they care about.
I loved the one in Straits of Devastation. It was cool the way it was presented as a glimpse into the past, with the painting at the top and everything.
idk, I attribute all the laurel complaints to two things…
1. It’s not traditional to offer the best in game items for such a small amount of effort over a period of a few weeks. Most MMO’s make them exclusive by requiring crazy time commitments and/or high drop rarity. Hardcore players want that exclusivity.
2. We’ve got rather high expectations of the updates for the first 3 months of the year, and Laurels are pretty much the only thing we’ve seen so far with the first 3 months of the year 40% over with.
Edit: I suppose I should add, I love the laurel system and now that I’m older with a kid and a job, I think hardcore MMO players are certifiably insane, and having been one, wish GW2 would have existed 10 years ago so I could have spent more time outdoors!
(edited by Tagus Eleuthera.7305)
Laurels are pure genius from a design perspective. They created a reward system to offer some of the best items in the game to people uninterested in fractals, by piggy-backing the entire reward structure on a currently existing achievement format (i.e. – dailies, monthlies) that people were already doing anyway.
What’s not to like?
In FFXI there were player homes… nobody ever “hung out” in their home. It was a just a room basically, where you could manipulate the environment, display trinkets and seasonal reward items, and display event and accomplishment rewards. That game came out in 2003. It is now 2013… there is no way that it would be a tremendous developmental effort at this point.
