Where did you guys find the Lotus flower, I have been in Orr for the past days and get nothing but root

Just keep harvesting. RNG is gonna RNG. I got a lotus flower on like my third harvest, but on the other hand, I spent two days in Southsun harvesting the very limited passionflower supply.

I’d prefer the ability to queue mastery lines. So you finish say, Fractals Tier 1, it automatically spends your mastery point and then moves on to whatever else you’ve set up as your next priority.

Just create a system that the player can set up in advance instead of having to fiddle with on the fly at more than likely inconvenient times. The primary source of experience will come from some activity that is invariably combat heavy. You don’t want to be UI wrangling in the middle of a fight.

I finished the first tier collection today, looked at the recipe, did a quick mental calculation of how much it would cost to craft the first of three tiers and straight on noped away at the speed of light.

It looks like I’m going to frequent the TP often and just buy the freaking Leaf of Kudzu.

New Guild Missions are bad

I’m adding my voice to everyone else here. Anet have successfully taken something that wasn’t broken and fixed it into oblivion. It’s just terrible on every level. I get that Anet love and worpship the power of RNG but do we really need to rely on its rarely benevolent hand to decide what activities our guild is going to partake in each week?

Frankly the OP nailed it with what he said. Even if the missions weren’t bugged to the Underworld and back, the increased limitations and lack of choice for guilds would still make this awful. Especially lowering rewards for choosing a category of play that a guild may actually have built its community around.

Lord in heaven, stop it with the hamfisted attempts at social engineering and just let your playerbase play instead of punishing them for not doing what you want. I get it, you’re in love with the idea of esports but, Gretchen, stop trying to make esports happen. It’s not going to happen. Between the first week of missions “just happening” to “randomly” roll a straight set of PvP missions and the penalty to rewards for choosing one game mode it really does feel less like fun guild community time and more like Anet’s attempts to shove its playerbase where it doesn’t want to be.

Can I destroy the Nuhoch Warbler now?

Tapioca.9062

What are you talking about? I finished the story and never got this warbler thingy. What does it do and when was I supposed to get it?

It warbles.

I’m guessing you chose to defend Jaka Itzel instead of attacking the Mordrem the first time on your character. The choice you make there sends you down minorly different story paths. Ibli’s path has you looking for Itzel scouts and you have to do some sweet, sweet gliding to get the attention of one. Tizlak’s path has you looking for scouts who will show up in response to the warbler.

After the story step is over, you keep the item and can continue to use it to make an annoying noise.

Once you’ve completed the required story arc on that character you can safely destroy it. You won’t need it again.

Personally, though, you can take my warbler when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

How to TP undercut

I threw some trash rares up on the TP earlier today, came back later, checked on them and saw that people had strongly undercut me and then people had undercut them further until there was a price difference of something like 10-15 silver.

All my items still sold within a timeframe of around six hours or so anyway. All they’re doing is gouging into their own profit margins.

You craft five patches at a time making the total cost 25 Spools Thread / 4 Gossamer Bolts / 10 Cured Leather not five times that.

Which I find utterly baffling. You craft them five at a time and use them five at a time to make one insignia. What is the benefit of that over crafting one (using the same mats) and using one to produce one insignia? All the introduction of the number “5” does is produce confusion and lead to people making the same mistake that Daroon did. I nearly made the same mistake myself, but double checked what was actually happening.

This is especially confusing when you get to ascended insignia, which require three Damask patches produced one at a time, unlike all the lesser recipes.

I agree with you 100%. I only figured it out myself when I accidentally ended up crafting 25 of them instead of the 5 I wanted.

Tapioca.9062

Sorry you have it wrong – The actual amounts required for crafting all Masterwork, Rare and Exotic Insignia has been raised SIGNIFICANTLY.

The old recipe for a Rampager’s Intricate Insignia for example required:

5 Gossamer Bolts (refined from scraps)
5 Globs Ecto
20 Gossamer SpoolsThread
5 Powerful Venom

Total: 20 Spools Thread & 5 Bolts Gossamer

The new recipe requires:

5 Gossamer PATCHES
EACH patch requires 25 Spools Thread / 4 Gossamer Bolts / 10 Cured Leather
5 Powerful Venom
5 Globs Ecto

Total: 125 Spools Thread / 20 Gossamer Bolts / 50 Cured Leather

There seems to have been a collective amnesia in the community about the fact that that a further step has been added to the refining process and bolts now need to be refined into patches.

Crafting ALL masterwork and above Insignia now requires almost 5x the material costs than prior to the update and to add insult to injury, they forgot to add bank storage for the new patches.

You craft five patches at a time making the total cost 25 Spools Thread / 4 Gossamer Bolts / 10 Cured Leather not five times that.

I bought up a ton of thick leather well before before October simply because I noticed how cheap it was and I remembered what happened to silk. I don’t even the intention to resell it for profit. This was purely done to secure my own supply. Although, that being said, a decent chunk of it ended up in guild hall upgrades, but I still have a nice stockpile left.

This is completely normal market speculation. If I could see this coming, anybody could see this coming. All the signs were there.

This is hardly unexpected. The Silverwastes constantly had people in because it was the best farming map. However, Anet seem to have taken away the wrong design concept from this and decided if they make more maps like the Silverwastes and then overly complicate the simple event designs, then people will just magically fill the maps like some kind of Guild Wars 2 version of Field of Dreams. It was never going to work like that.

People have a very finite economy of time and effort that they can afford to spend. They will naturally gravitate towards the things they need and the best rewards. Hence the early game hero point and mastery rushes and then people moving on to farming maps. This was entirely predictable and yet Anet completely failed to design around a such a simple concept, instead choosing to create vast, sprawling maps that rely on group co-operation even though there’s no real draw for large groups to be there.

Comparing it again to the Silverwastes, Silverwastes meta progress is wholly determined by player action. Whereas HoT maps are all on hard timers. Unlike Silverwastes where you can turn up in a mostly empty map, taxi people in and then start rolling, it’s entirely possible to land into a mostly empty Verdant Brink map, taxi people in and then ten minutes later get the Prepare For Forty-Five Minutes Of Boring Night Events message. Why even bother?

Awesome.

Now go do it again on ten other characters. From the exact same hero points every single time.

It will be a lot easier now that he/she has the masteries to get to them or access them a lot easier.

How, exactly, do the masteries make them easier? Many hero points are gated behind masteries. If by easier, you mean “capable of being accessed” then that’s certainly a true, if unique, perspective. But unlocking updraft training doesn’t make acquiring hero points easier, it just means you can get to the HoT hero points you need that require updrafts to access. Most HoT masteries don’t make you stronger. They just remove roadblocks to otherwise inaccessible content.

Because being able to finish something once during optimal conditions, the maps are full of people looking to do the same thing that you are, is not indicative of its long term viability, nor does it factor in scale due to people having multiple characters.

20 – 40 hero points isn’t great, across my alts I’ll be looking at well over 300 hero points that I’ll need to tag. And I can only get them in HoT maps because both the value of HoT hero points and the elite spec costs have been bloated to devalue central tyrian hero points. But beyond even the fact that you’re forced to do the exact same content again and again and again on each individual character to actually access what you paid for, is the fact that most of these hero points are locked behind champs that cannot be soloed. So if you don’t like grind, and I don’t like grind, and you want to take a break, you’ll find it increasingly difficult to get all your characters access to their elite specs as maps either empty out or other people have no interest in breaking away from map meta-event chains to hare after far-flung hero points.

I understand that in the first five days this might seem like a reasonable system, but the problems in the design aren’t in the short term focus and that’s not what people have an issue with. There are problems with the way the system has been designed that limit its viability in the long term. And that’s completely ignoring that I have to choose between 19 HoT hero points and every single other hero point in Tyria or 99% of the exact same hero points in HoT again and again and again. I have zero desire to do that at least nine times.

Well if you have 9 alts then I guess you had a desire to go through all of the core content, or even EOTM farming, or even sPvP farming for tomes 9 different times. What makes getting Hero Points through the core world plus the HoT content to unlock the Elite Specializations any different than the other 9 times you leveled alts? How does that limit viability in the long term? Wouldn’t that stimulate long term goals especially seeing as you did go to the trouble of getting 9 alts, which I assume are 80, to 80?

Quite a complex contradiction you’ve got for yourself.

You get more tomes than you will ever need simply from logging on every day. You get even more if you spend a short amount of time doing your spvp dailies, but it’s certainly not necessary. Beyond that, there are multiple ways to level characters. You can craft, tome, WvW or do traditional PvE or any combination of the above. The wide range of options mitigates grind because you’re not doing the same thing over and over again. Contrast this with gather 400 hero points. You can obtain these by either getting every single hero point in Tyria and 19 hero points in HoT or all the hero points in HoT again and again and again. There is no variety here. There is only the exact same act again and again and again.

You haven’t pointed out a contradiction here. You’ve only highlighted how the inflated cost of the elite spec and the inflated HoT hero point values have necessitated grind by decreasing player choice and gameplay options.

Ok, so that’s 50 days if you really need to unlock a specialization on 10 characters.

GW2, base game, has been out for 3 years. If you really need to burn through everything new on every single character on your account in less than 2 months, you have pretty unrealistic expectations.

Yes. Because of course it would progress into the future as a direct linear scale as maps empty and other people stop needing hero points themselves.

But even if we assumed, completely erroneously, that the effort required to complete elite specs will remain constant as time passes rather than become more difficult due to the drop in help from other players, then you still need to factor in that people who have fully unlocked their elite spec in under a week from launch aren’t the average player. If it would take that player two months to actually get their elite specs on their characters, how long is it going to take the average player? Six months? Nine months?

Again, presuming erroneously that the ease of access to help remains a constant. Is that an ideal situation to you? “Oh hey, average player, in nine months from now you might actually be able to play content with elite specs on any of your professions. Did you want to play through your personal story the first time with your elite spec? Too bad, buddy.”

19. I started with world completion so that was all I needed to finish my spec. It’s going to be a nightmare to get a complete unlock on all my other characters without world completion. Especially as we enter post-launch cooldown and it becomes increasingly difficult to find people to defeat the champs with.

I finished the story last night and was thinking it would be nice to further explore the new zones or do some Halloween events and work on Tyrian masteries but had to question whether it would be better to run alts to hero points while there are still people around. Halloween will be back next year and I can explore the new zones any time I want but once people abandon the new zones they’re not likely to come back and I can’t solo champs in 5 minutes so I need to prioritise that.

Instead they FORCED me to GRIND the rest of the movie before showing me the ending that I PAID for. I cant believe people would do this! They are ruining their movie! I was just thinking of that time I had to do 20 – 40 jumping jacks before I was allowed to have my 3D glasses. And then I had to see the movie nine different times. What an absolute delight of an experience that wasn’t a chore at all.

hahahahahaha made my day, thank you. :’D
so rediculous..

The best part is that they told me I actually had to do four hundred jumping jacks but because I was doing them at that cinema every jumping jack actually counted for ten. What a bargain, right? They also told me that the two-hundred jumping jacks I’d done earlier would give me access to half of the 3D glasses. It was a pretty exciting day.

We were told time and again that masteries were to be the ongoing progression introduced with HoT, not the new specs. I was looking forward to playing the new content with the new spec not scrambling to find 20 – 40 hero challenges across four maps and hoping there’s content left once I actually have the spec unlocked.

203 with eight left in WvW maps and two more in dry-top. That would make 213 so either there is another hidden one on the non-map-completion maps or I lost one somewhere.

If the GW2 devs are going to give feedback on anything I’d rather it be on concerns the community have and additional information regarding HoT rather than a clickbait listicle written by a blogger. What I’d especially like to hear is feedback regarding prospective timeframes to the rollout of raids and balance tuning after HoT goes live.

Asking for feedback on this is like finding an article about gaming in the National Enquirer and asking for feedback on it. Your time would be better spent on just about anything at all.

In the Winds of Change arch, IIRC, you could repeatedly find Ministry of Purity forces yelling stuff about “Sending you to grenth’s justice/judgement” when fighting the gangs.

Olias, the necromancer hero (I think I got the name right) that you recruit from lion’s arch, was also all about bringing justice to a group of white mantle who were slaughtering krytans on the bloodstone.

So he kinda is, but it’s more of the dead then the living. I THINK I’ve heard Kormir being mentioned in the “trial of zamon” mission, which could mean she is treated as justice for the living, and grenth the dead?

Well, Kormir is the God of Truth. As such, it makes a certain amount of sense to invoke her name during a trial.

The hero points you get from leveling should be sufficient to unlock all your base traits and skills at 80. You’d essentially be hitting HoT with 0 hero points to spare so you’d need the full 400 points (via 40 nodes).

I mean some of us have Jobs and families. How are we supposed to unlock this in a reasonable amount of time after paying for the expansions ahead of time? If I had known this was going to be introduced I would never have bought the expansion.

Youre talking about half mapping two whole zones of hero point challenges….Seriously this is too much for you?

You’re telling me you want to rush through the map to find up to 40 hero challenges to fully unlock the elite? When you can only explore a map for the first time once.

Everyone plays the game for different reasons. I myself play this game for open world PvP (WvW roaming). That is the only aspect of this game I currently enjoy. Whilst I am glad you enjoy playing pve, I myself have no interest whatsoever in exploring the new map. I believe I only have like 30% map completion anyway despite having 4,300 hours of the game logged. I knew that I would have to take some time off enjoying the game to grind out my specializations. But 400…..??

Thats alot of pve content, and I am going to be detesting every second of it. I mean alot of people on this thread are saying they are gonna enjoy the content and take their time unlocking their specialization, and thats excellent I just wish Anet could have given us players a solution to get these hero points over with as quickly as possible.

I like PvE content and I sure as heck don’t want to get 40 hero points each for nine professions across four maps. Unless HoT is swarming with hero points that is going to get very old, very fast.

Also, Colin didn’t state that world completion got you an entire elite spec minus a bunch of gear. He said it would get you about halfway, so your hypothesis about 200 hero points unlocking the entire trait line doesn’t hold much sway for me.

ColinJohanson:

It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.
You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.
Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day.

confirmed skins as part of it. Likely itll be very usuable by the first 150 points or so. So for those that already have 200 points they basically will be able to unlock it on launch and are crying for nothing.

My bad. I missed that part. I’m still exceptionally wary about this though.

It should be mentioned that this 400 points likely includes the runes, sigils, weapon, and armor piece that come with unlocking the line.

Additionally weapon skills are in a separate line from traits.

You can most likely unlock the full trait line with <200 points.

Or you could unlock all the skills for <200 points

It will only take 400 points to unlock all the traits, all the skills, the set of runes, the sigil, the weapon and the armor piece.

What are you talking about? Gear has never been locked behind hero points. Why would it be that way now? Especially when we already know that the Rev armour set is unlocked through a collection set. It seems far more likely that other armour sets would unlock the same way instead of bizarrely being coupled with hero point unlocks for the first time ever.

Also, Colin didn’t state that world completion got you an entire elite spec minus a bunch of gear. He said it would get you about halfway, so your hypothesis about 200 hero points unlocking the entire trait line doesn’t hold much sway for me.

“Pre-order the game! You’ve bought it? Great! Raids with unavoidable damage! Healbots! Redistribution of dungeon rewards to new content! Map completion gives you half an elite spec! Have fun! :^)”

I am beyond disgusted at this point.

I just don’t understand how they think this is a good idea on any level. The idea of elite specs being gated behind world completion + 20 HoT hero points or 40 HoT hero points for every single character is mind boggling. How does anybody look at that as a concept and think, “Yeah, that’s a good idea. People clearly want the content they paid for to be gated behind 40 hero points on every single character. So you have at least one of each profession? What’s effectively 360 hero points between friends? They all come from the exact same four maps. Surely you’ll get really good at grinding out those 40 points per character by the time you’re doing your seventh run through, right?”

We’re less than a week away from launch. I should be in full blooded hype mode, not getting disgusted more and more at every announcement that’s coming out. I should be excited. Instead, I’m wary about what ridiculous grind or nerf we’re going to be ambushed with next.

Is this an attempt to force people into the Maguuma for hero points? If the elite spec costs are artificially bloated and the HoT hero points are artificially bloated to compensate, what other possible explanation is there beyond devaluing Central Tyrian content in favour of shoving people into HoT.

How little confidence do you have in your own product if you need to resort to measures like this and devaluing dungeons to get people to play your content? If you have good content then people will play it. You don’t need to artificially bloat out the values of new content to funnel people in if it’s good.

In one fell swoop you’ve either made world completion obsolete or mandatory depending on how many hero points are in HoT and that’s terrible. World completion, frankly, sucks. As such, people should be rewarded for doing it and people shouldn’t be forced to do it. This is completely obnoxious. At this rate I’ll maybe unlock an elite spec on one character, but there’s no way on Earth I’m doing it for all nine professions, let alone my spares.

So essentially, if you have world completion, you get half an elite spec?

I don’t even know how to put into words how completely awful this is.

It was just a joke referring to how many people used to call Kormir a thief for the way that Nightfall panned out.

I have never seen my supposed Priest of Balthazar in my ranger’s home instance, if that’s truly the case.

There are always some priests of Dwayna and Kormir in the home instance, however, regardless of progression.

Unfortunately I was unable to obtain a picture of Kormir’s priest on the basis that Kormir is the patron god of Thieves and I have no Human Thieves.

Issue after buying HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Anet has had a lot of issues with dodgy resellers buying copies of HoT with stolen credit cards, selling the key to some poor sucker and said poor sucker cops the brunt of the consequences when the transaction is later contested and revoked by the card owner.

Due to this Anet slow down the turn around process between buying HoT and having it be applied to your account. From what I understand it could be somewhere up to 72 hours before everything is vetted. Possibly a little longer since it’s the weekend. I don’t know if they meant three working days or just three days.

Everything should be fine. Just give it time.

At a minimum you might want to state whether you’re in the NA or Europe server group. If you’re in NA and get a bunch of Europe applications, you’re gonna have a bad time when you find out they can’t come to your event.

I got one. On a beta map. But it still counts, I guess? At least it wasn’t a precursor.

Maguuma Hero Points ?

On the contrary, it seems like a very simple question that has an equally simple answer: No.

It has been stated that if you have world completion then you will have enough hero points for every elite spec released. Due to this and the fact that we don’t see hero point on any of the beta maps it shows that HoT was designed around existing hero points being enough to get your specs without adding more to the Maguuma.

From what we were shown in the betas it doesn’t look like it. Instead of places having Hero Points they had Mastery Points.

Moving to remove dungeons?

“As a part of that process, we’ll shift some rewards away from dungeons and into other pieces of content. "

That doesn’t just mean moving it to fractals. As a matter of fact he goes one to describe the other pieces of content right after he said this.

“The major concern that we’re sure to face is the specific intent of dungeons as a gold-generating activity. To that effect, let’s talk about map rewards.”

Except that the map rewards portion of that article doesn’t cover the concept of increased rewards. It covers the exact opposite. It covers how the new map rewards system will devalue high priced mats and give buyers more power by allowing them to circumvent the market and sellers will have to respond accordingly. The inference here is that sellers will need to price accordingly because they will need to factor in that people can just farm for mats and that flipping, hoarding and price gouging won’t be an option due to the constant stream of new mats into the market.

Further, if you look at the line that you conveniently didn’t mention, the article states, “The shift in rewards is a direct representation of our focus on raids and fractals and our commitment to make them the best they can be.” How is the devaluation of mats via map rewards a “direct representation of our focus on raids and fractals?” Spoiler warning: It’s not.

Economic "rebalancing event" of the past?

After reading John Smith blog at the end he spoke of re-balancing events like the ones in the past. Is he talking about the four winds festivals?

Do you think we will see the same materials targeted at similar ratios? Should I be throwing money into gossamer instead of thick sections? Seems like around May 20th of last year gossamer was worth more in the event than thick sections.

The word event here makes me think this isn’t like silk’s material requirements all being increased or like ectos being salvageable for dust. It’s most likely going to be another temporary event where you can dump a ton of a mat into the forge for a miniscule chance at a neat reward. Just like the Great Butter Purge of 2012.

It reminds me of back before the closet system, when people had scores of Risen Priest of Balthazar minis.

Couldn’t do anything with em. Couldn’t bear to throw them out.

I think now they are forgeable. It would be really nice to see that happen.

Throw them into the forge with some Elonian Wine and create a Turducken Mail Carrier.
