Similar thing happened to voice acting industry a while back in my country. Dark times. Always caused by someone being too greedy.

My opinion is that if you rly want to get fast through ac ppl should know how to play their classes and skip a lot. The most ppl who kick <80 do gravelings and Kholer, i think that´s not rly a fast way for this dungeon.

You should distinguish between record run and casual daily run. Both Kholer and Champ graveling drop champ boxes, hence why people kill them. Extra 5 seconds for a champ box are worth it. Plus after killing Kholer you get WP, which is useful in some paths.

Oh and btw… if all the lvl 42s on LFG were equipped with rare gear up to their level, the damage wouldn’t be so bad. Actually after Anet messed up the downscaling, they can sometimes reach higher stats and just as good damage output. The problem is… most of them wear basic armor 20+ levels behind, they also lack experience.

zerk meta, viability of a class

That said, that doesn’t really excuse the elitism from pugs. I agree that pugs are pathetic for demanding 2 ele/1 thief/1 guard/1 warrior all the time and to be quite frank with you I never play with the people that post LFG ads asking for this because to me, those are just wannabes/tryhards. It’s not the best class comp all of the time, in fact it’s rare for it to be.

Not all are wannabe/tryhards. There are some, indeed, but i’ve met a new group of buddies in a pug group with this kind of setup. We had one tryhard thief, but that’s one out of 5.

I personnaly always ask for this kind of setup and a decent experience in PUG (because i like it, it’s an efficient in every situation, maybe not always optimal, but it’s not a speed run, it’s a fast run pug), but i don’t expect them to go perfect without mistake, and they might be used to different tactics than me and that could lead to a wipe or two. I won’t kitten over it, as i make mistakes too, and miscommunication involve everyone.

Yup. I too usually ask for a specific class and kick anyone not meeting the criteria. This has nothing to do with tryharding, I’m simply testing people’s basic perceptive abilities. While it’s true that pretty much every dungeon can be completed with any class composition (and when people are competent, the time difference is not even that big), I don’t really wanna run with someone who can’t be even bothered to read and instantly joins random parties in the lfg. Bad people with good builds are still better than bad people with bad builds, hence why I ask for meta setups.
In the end class obviously doesn’t matter much, what matters is people’s abilities to read and do what you say.
But yeah, I agree that in some cases it’s just tryharding that doesn’t make sense. PUGs have been blindly following the meta for years, that’s nothing new.

As for the OP’s question, it has been already answered above. While there are good rangers out there (as well as necros), people are used to seeing fullsignet bearbow noobs who knock enemies out of your AoEs as soon as the fight starts. It’s not your fault, but I’m afraid there’s nothing that can be done about it. Either run with friends, or get used to the hate.

By the way… can anyone explain to me what does lb/ls ranger mean? Does he by any chance mean longsword aka greatsword? Or is he refering to some utility setup? Haven’t checked out ranger meta in a while, last I remember was lb/s+a for power ranger.

Restrict free accounts in WvW to EOTM only

Tarasicodissa.7084

Disagree about WvWvW restriction for F2P players.

I introduced this game to my friends, and I want to let them experience the funniest things of GW2.

I agree with you.

So do I. When my F2P friends first entered WvW, I showed them EotM. We had a pretty good commander, train was moving fast and we were victorious in any encounter with enemies. The problem was – I could keep up with the zerg no problem and tagged everything, but my friend was still inexperienced and he was feeling EotM is too “rushy”. That’s why I was glad I could show them Eternal Battlegrounds, where the pace is much more acceptable for the newbies and he did his best to help our server dominate the map.
Do not put any more restrictions on F2P players. They might put them off buying the game or continuing to play (albeit for free). Fix the reasons why “non-legit” F2P accounts can troll. Don’t punish legit players, who only want to experience the game and potentially buy it. Trust me – some friends of mine already did that. And many others are trying the free version at the moment.

Maybe my experience is speaking for me and I haven’t yet seen a misuse of these free accounts. If you’ve seen the positive side of things like I did, you would be thinking something else. Try to bring some friends into the game and see for yourself. Don’t spoil it for others, try to come up with something more constructive than just “restrict this and that”.

My thoughts from Beta weekend (Sept 4-6)

Me personally I like the new enemies. Sure it took me a bit of getting used to, but when I finally learned how to counter them, it was fun to fight. There might be a need to tweak their stats a little bit (take their HP down or up slightly), but IMHO no substantial changes are needed.
Woodenpotatoes described the hammer hylek in one of his videos pretty accurately. He isn’t that difficult or necessarily tanky, it’s just people fail to avoid his hits, which prolongs the fight a lot. Most of his attacks can be easily avoided by just walking out of his attack area, rest can be dodged as the attacks are clearly telegraphed long time before they hit. If players do this properly, the fight actually becomes pretty easy.

That being said, reason why I could keep up with the enemies was perhaps me playing a tanky profession (reaper necromancer). Even though I was full zerker, I had defensive utilities (a well that blinds) and an extra HP pool (DS). If you had trouble as an ele (which I can understand), you may consider changing one or two pieces of your armor for soldier’s/celestial or dropping an offensive utility skill for arcane shield. That should make you tanky enough to deal with the enemies. And I’m sure once you get enought experience, you’ll be able to switch back to full zerker and survive with no problem.

The deal with the new enemies is you cannot just spam your skills mindlessly, you actually have to adapt according to the exact type of the foe you’re fighting. Sometimes it’s DPS race, sometimes it’s CC spam, sometimes it’s battle of conditions. You also have to pay attention to positioning. Keep in mind that what now may seem hard, will become trivial over months. Because of that, I’m happy with the difficulty as of now (actually I would love to see harder fights and hope raids will deliver that) and I’d hate to see it become trivialized.

Dont get me wrong, I am the kind of person who do all arah paths in one day, solo atleast 1 of them….
But just made a new char, and doing a dungeon with full lvl 35…..You cant stack since insta kill, everything is amazingly hard, we have been in here for like 1 hour and only at kholer.

Just forgot how amazingly hard this game is/was. be4 I started just doing everything on lvl 80´s on a lvl 35 place xD

I am the kind of person who does Arah rarely and I can only solo a few little portions of it, yet when I brought my lowbies to AC recently, I could solo almost all of it and when I was playing with my fellow lowbies, we did it without problem.
Either you’re still in the starter armor or you’re lying shamelessly about your Arah experience.
I agree that there are situations when the game can be challenging – especially if you’re new, but AC is definitely not it, not even when you’re playing a lowbie.

For the record… THIS is how Arah vet performs in early dungeons. Go ahead and convince Wethospu how “hard” this game is.

Stacking and Exploiting

Tarasicodissa.7084

Stupid and pointless necro, but hey, I’ll play with you.

Completely agree with u I hate stacking as well. I do dungeons to have fun and thats the only reason I do them. If I want to make money I go to Silverwaste which gets me a lot more money than a dungeon ever could. People that stack are usually people that cant stay alive without stacking or cant kite or dodge.

1) People who stack don’t have fun? Not everyone has the same preferences as you. If you wish to play in a certain way, you should make it clear in the party description.
2) You make more money in SW because you don’t play well. Even though dungeons are considered by many very easy, they are still more engaging than following a tag and spamming “F”. While it’s true SW is pretty profitable, it is so braindead and boring that a lot of people still prefer to do dungeons to make money.
3) How is running in circles around a boss (or pewpewing it from far away) any more challenging than max meleeing it and dodging most damaging attacks? You do most of your damage in melee, but it acutally requires you to know the encounters unlike range, where you avoid 99% of the damage at the cost of 99% of your DPS.

If you want to play bad, just join (or make) all welcome groups. Don’t complain about how competent groups play, because some people simply want efficiency. Also you should distinguish stacking and LoSing. People stack to share boons, melee enemies and do most damage, be most efficient. LoSing is pretty rare at this point, there are very few places in the game where it makes sense. Mostly it’s just unnecessary waiting for the enemies to come to you, which is done by brainless pugs who simply follow what other players used to do years ago, when there was a point in that.

Yup, so would I. But then as Jockum pointed out above, there are people who want to play the game but can’t be bothered to learn it (completely refuse to cooperate or seek out a video guide), so the only way these people get the achievements is by buying (or leeching). Even though they are probably expected to do something, I guess the seller is able to solo the majority of the dungeon (as far as I know, everything but the electric floor is soloable).

Are we talking general dungeon achievements (for finishing the path) or the TA-AE specific achievements? I too have hard time believing someone pays as much as 15g for just joining at the end. At this moment (with all the guides available), it should be reasonably easy to find a pug to do AE with. Also, as far as I can tell, even average groups are able to finish in ~30mins, so those 15g (or more common 20g) seem totally overpriced to me.
If we’re talking the AE achievements, to my surprise, I’ve recently seen an LFG of a guy selling those. It was over 30g. I still wonder who would pay for it, but I guess this game is full of rich people (LA afkers), who are too lazy to learn or play the actual game, they’re here just for the stock exchange simulator.

Rewards Revamp needs to happen.

Better idea, scale all rewards based on the current record for a dungeon. That way it’s relative to the lowest possible achievable time.

That’s an interesting idea. I was thinking perhaps every day, at reset time (no need to be online), players from the party holding the best time at that day would receive some extra gold+tokens. Then maybe also a bigger reward for monthly best time.
The problem with all-time records is that they are build dependent, so if all players get a power boost or Anet messes up with downscaling, the best achievable time for that dungeon changes. Best thing is to just compete with the players who completed the dungeon the same day/month – for an adequate reward.

Tarasicodissa.7084

Are you guys so insecure about your abilities (or so egoistic) that you simply have to keep telling everyone how awesome you are at the game, how easy it is for you and how everyone else should l2p? The fact is in this game there are players of various skill levels. This setup has its own goals and is very serious, it has been proven to us it works. Even Iris (who I believe is a very serious and respected player) acknowledged very good players can have trouble at more difficult fractals and this trio has dealt with it very efficiently.
^What Eco said. If you want to demonstrate to everyone how incredibly awesome you are, how noone in the game is a match for you and how easy it is to do the complete fractal with zerker, record it and make it a guide for us, the unskilled noobs, who can’t even do a smooth (20 minutes no wipes) FotM 50 full zerker trio.

Now I totally see what Jerus meant back in the other topic. If you’ve only came to make fun of other players and don’t come up with anything constructive, kitten off.

Yeah, might be a little funny, but at the same time it’s the attitude that’s making a mockery of this community. It’s sad and pathetic.

I agree that this can definitely turn off a newcomer and supports the prevailing opinion of this portion of the community, but there’s a good reason why serious PvE players promote DPS/zerker and nothing else. The time spent on that HotW solo should be enough of a proof to everyone. I bet noone watched this video past the first 2-5 minutes, now imagine playing like this every day. You would die of boredom, even with a full party.
Another reason is that playing defesinve setups lets you pick up bad habits, you are not forced to dodge/know when to dodge anymore and screw up badly when you switch back to proper gear.
I can definitely see one player out of five running non-meta gear and be very supportive and helpful. There are instances where having a dedicated healer/buffer can make things significantly easier for everyone at the cost of few sec/up to half a minute per run. My former guildie had a healer guard ready for these special occasions and we were taking it very seriously. But if more people go that route or bring these builds to an uncoordinated run, you will end up with runs looking like that HotW solo.

I’m afraid that making anything besides zerker good and rewarding to run would require fundamental changes in the game design. Changes that may even be impossible to make at this point. Every serious PvE player understands that and if someone like Card decides to demonstrate this in a funny way like this, I don’t take it as mocking anyone, I just enjoy it and have a good laugh.

The burrow pop-up frequency should be low enough to allow you to simply alternate between icebow 4 and meteor shower. Easy to remember, easy to pull off. If burrows are not destoyed with the one attack (highly likely after they messed-up with the scaling), do what bladex suggested and mix in some might stacking here and there. You don’t even need to get out of fire attunement. In case you mess up anyway, you still should have glyph of storms or the elite elemental to save you.
It may take a little bit of practice. Not only you need to remember the exact order of the burrows spawning, you also need to think two steps ahead when laying down the icebow so you don’t have to run around picking them up, but rather have them prepared just in front of a newly spawned burrow.
Also make sure you don’t cast the skill too early. Has happened way too many times to me.

Warr master race. Not fun to play, boring, you will carry banners for your team, press #2 and sometimes even dodge.

I take this as you didn’t play GW2 since the huge specialization patch. Warrior has actually became much more complex since then. It remains true that it’s easy to just “play” warrior and survive thanks to its tankiness, but if you want to do optimal DPS, you’ll have to take care of much more than that. There’s a huge amount of damage modifiers and skills you need to incorporate into the rotation (plus it depends on the battlefield and your positioning), if you lose focus even for 1 sec you lose on a good chunk of your DPS. Still nowhere as complex as engi, of course, but much more fun now than it used to be.
Embrace The Bold.7619:

Actually from what I’ve seen on my tours it’s actually better to take mesmer over guard in many dungeons since their dps is actually better!

Dunno where you got that from, but it’s not true. Mesmer’s DPS is very situational, but in 90% of the cases guard does better. Since it takes a long time for a mesmer to build up his phantasms, it’s very likely that the boss will already be down by the time mesmer is ready to begin doing damage. For coordinated groups, mesmer is a huge boost thanks to its portals and other utilities, but mostly in casual runs and pug runs you see guardian, because that’s much easier to pull off. So if you happen to know a good mesmer, it’s better to take him, but otherwise it’s easier to find a decent guard than finding a decent mesmer.

Is condi Mesmer viable for dungeons?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tarasicodissa.7084

Tarasicodissa.7084

One simply doesn’t…. bring mesmer into dungeons for its DPS.
The reason anyone would want mesmer in their group is to get some neat utility like stealth (yeah, thief is better), timewarp (yeah, guard is better) or portals (at least one thing mesmer is unmatched at). All of these are unaffected by your gear thus you can be as condi as you wish (though there’s no real point). The only thing where gear matters are reflects – another great mesmer’s utility (AFAIK reflect damage goes up with precision and ferocity).

So if you happen to know all dungeons extremely well and want to setup portals wherever you can, sure, go with your condi mesmer. Keep in mind though you’ll lose on some champ boxes. IMO this strategy only works in records runs, there’s way too much stuff that can go wrong for it to be viable for everyday casual runs. So not only I don’t recommend condi mesmer for casual runs, I don’t recommend mesmer at all.

If you put up an LFG saying you only want to do lvl 1 swamp (you can get one of the two daily fractal achievements for completing only a SINGLE map out of the four), I’m pretty sure people won’t mind you bringing a useless class in selfish gear. Running the orbs and killing mossy takes literally just 5 minutes even with a terrible group, there’s nothing to complain about regarding this daily. Unless you prefer whining to actually doing something and trying to adapt to the game.

If a GM finds a player that is using a “Safe Spot” and selling the dungeon run, that account will be temporarily suspended without warning.

By that logic, basically every “Boss at 1%” sell group would have been banned by now, yet I highly doubt anyone ever got banned for it…

Some people were indeed banned for this. Though there is very little activity from the GMs in this regard. Also, based on the reports I’ve heard of (of course I can be wrong here), I came to the understanding that these things happen more frequently on NA, people on EU are monitored much less intensively.
But yeah. They really should put an autoban on the “[SELL] boss at 1%” text.

Oh and just for the record, I’ve even heard (again, cannot know this for sure) that some of the banning happens pretty much automatically. How simple is it to put a detector+counter below the stairs in AC and once you’ve found yourself in the void a number of times, you’ll get banned automatically (or it is reported to a GM, who proceeds to inspect you for suspicious activity).
So yeah, you’re mostly safe bugging the game to your heart’s content but it’s your own risk, I’ve seen people getting banned on multiple occasions.

Yup, he’s taught me a lot as well, that’s why I recommend his videos to every GW2 newbie seeking guidance.

Now that I come to think about it, OP may also find it useful to specifically ask someone to bring a thief with him. It is a very useful profession and will be able to carry low-experience team. It can help destroying blossoms or stealthing the team completely as some of the skips may be tough for someone who’s in the dungeon for the first time. Other than that, as mentioned above, the dungeon is pretty easy and straightforward, you should have no trouble with the bosses.

Since some people do them in different order than they’re listed, using “path 1” or “path 2” doesn’t really work well for this dungeon. You should probably stick to “up” and “fwd” (forward) as most people are used to.
If you don’t have luck finding someone to teach you in person, there’s a plenty of guides out there, you may want to have a look at them instead. http://gw2dungeons.net features a guide for basically every dungeon in game, you can learn a lot from there. There’s a huge amount of safespots and oversights, some of them being more obvious as bugs than others. If you were kicked for refusing to abuse an unintended mechanics, that’s bad and you can report it, although I’m afraid not much is gonna happen, just as nothing is gonna happen regarding the needed dungeon fixes.
Anyway, using this very old pug strategy is time inefficient, anyone using it basically punishes himself for not even trying this laughably easy boss. For solos, this could be discutable, but for 5-man groups, you’re paying for the “safety” with a noticable time loss.

Also, while I’m not a fan of using these “bugs”, you have no right to complain about other people using them if you’ve ever used one yourself. How come everyone in the pug world is perfectly okay with bugging TA UP champ and CM is somehow wrong? If you’re strictly against EVERY type of boss disable, then you probably need to find like minded people and play dungeons the intended way. Otherwise, you’re gonna run into these things with pugs a lot, especially since no one at Anet is gonna do anything about it.

Solo possible?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Tarasicodissa.7084

Tarasicodissa.7084

I’ve put hundreds of hours into GW2 and have never stepped foot into a dungeon or fractal. Generally I play GW2 as if it were a single player RPG and I never care for situations where I’m forced to use a specific build and party up with others that simply want to rush through to get loot. I want to try them with my Mesmer that I’ve built through PvE and I don’t want to have to change my set up.

I would love to try one on my own, but it doesn’t really seem possible. Am I out of luck here? Do I have to continue ignoring Dungeons/Fractals or else deal with having to team up with four strangers?

First of all, soloing dungeons is an extremely ineffective and unrewarding strategy. Most of the people you see doing this are bored with the game (lack of new challenging instanced content) and do this just to test their skills. If this is what you seek, be my guest. But if you want to make money, be prepared that it takes a significant amount of time to both learn to solo and execute it. Running with other people (even if they’re inexperienced) is still way more efficient, since content in dungeons doesn’t scale.
Second, are you really sure you want to solo dungeons if you haven’t finished one before, not even with other people? A lot of dungeons can be a challenge for a newbie even if he’s part of a 5-man team, let alone doing them on his own. I’d highly suggest you to pracice a lot in groups to understand general dungeon strategy, get an idea of where you have to go and what you have to do. Then you might have a chance at completing some of the easier dungeons (some story modes as suggested above).
Now about that “I don’t want to change my setup” part. If that’s true, you can forget about ever soloing a dungeon. Imagine that even with full offensive spec, it takes several times longer to finish a path solo than it would with a group. That means with bad gear you might even have to spend half a day in a dungeon just to be able to finish it. Some parts of dungeons will physically require you to wear full offensive set because they’re a DPS race. It is also hugely recommended that you get all the basic consumables (food, potions, feathers, ele powder,…) as they will often make things easier.
It all comes down to what you’re after. If you’re a Sandy-level skill player who seeks challenge, soloing dungeons might be your thing. However, if you just want to get things done, you should do them normally.

Correct me if I’m wrong, I always thought mesmer’s personal DPS ranking depends hugely on the length of the fight. If it’s short (most of the time if you’re 5-manning), then mesmer’s obviously gonna end up pretty bad due to the phantasm build-up time, but the longer the fight (solos or pug runs), the better will mesmer end up because all those initial skill activation times will get lost in a few minute long fight. Of course you’ll never be able to reach ele-level dps, but I think given the optimal conditions, mesmers could even outDPS rangers or guards (no maths, just my guess).

Even though a lot of them is still used to the common stacking spots, they’re able to adapt pretty quickly and when they see me (or anyone) getting ready for the fight at the boss’ spawn spot, they join us and fight normally. And after a few fights they figure it out and head for these spots automatically.
At least that’s my impression. Most people are still lazy, so they often don’t bother using potions or prestacking might, but generally pugs (talking exp zerk parties) seem to have the basic understanding of the game mechanics and are able to adapt to a number of commonly seen strategies without major failures.

@Silvercyclone
If you plan on doing more dungeons, getting zerker gear is strongly recommended. If you play a squishy and have trouble surviving, mix in some PTV and slowly change it up for zerker as you get more experience.
If you ONLY want those 500 tokens and then never ever touch dungeons again, you might want to buy those paths. For dungeons that are not being sold frequently on the lfg, you may want to look up someone (or a guild) that does dungeon selling and make a deal with them.
Anyway, zerker is currently the best thing for PvE for obvious reasons. Really. Getting it on at least one char is worth it no matter how casually you play. The time savings pay off.

Easiest/Quickest Dungeon Paths for Gold Farm

Obviously CoF 1 and 2 aren’t bad, AC 1 and 3 don’t seem bad. I don’t mine HotW paths but I’m sure that may vary on person.

Which paths are easiest and quickest? Looking at it from a farm-gold for as many paths as possible in a day?

CoF 2 is being omitted more and more lately due to the possibility of getting bugged. Just for the record… CoF 3 is also fairly easy. You need a decent group to get through there (coordination is quite important), but it doesn’t bug, so many players prefer it over P2. Or you can do all of them.
Pretty much the only dungeon people don’t want to do is SE 2 because of bugs. If you have time, everything else is fine. Some dungeons require more coordination than others, so you may want to do them with a group of people you know. Otherwise you may run into trouble. If you don’t have so much time every day, just skip TA AE and Arah 4, these take pretty long time even with a good group, so people don’t do them often. Again, depends on the people you play with. It all comes down to your preferences and amount of free time. Try out all the paths and see for yourself. You can find people doing basically everything but SE 2 daily.

…and still got wipe alot in AC, but ironically we dont wipe at boss, but trash mob

may be those “meta exp” group found it easy
but when i was in “all welcome” arent easy at all

Because no one bothers to use blinds or soft CC. Ask someone to bring a thief or an ele and permablind them, they won’t do anything to you.
And yeah, obviously “all welcome” groups fail a lot pretty much everywhere. It’s a good place for newbies without gear to start at for an immersive experience (you’ll feel like when the game was just a few months old), but unless an experienced player willing to patiently pull that group through joins, it may take a lot of time and wipes to finish the dungeon. Joining “meta exp” groups takes a little bit of preparation (getting gear, looking up guides and common strategies), but usually pays off very well. You get different kinds of people (unfortunately lfg is nothing but a roulette), but at least you won’t wipe in AC.

Either way, I totally agree this PvP reward system is broken as hell. If you run all dungeons every day, this probably isn’t a problem for you, I find it funny nonetheless how people who never actually set their foot to dungeons got their “dungeoneer” title much faster and easier way than people who do them every day. PvP shouldn’t reward unique PvE skins. That’s like asking that we get glorious hero armor just from running a few dungeon paths.
I must admit though that gold reward from PvP is nowhere near as good as that from dungeons. I don’t know what would it do to economy, but they should completely re-do the PvP reward system from scratch. Buff the gold rewards by several orders of magnitude (so that PvPers can at least afford some gold related stuff), but nerf the ability to get unique PvE-only skins. Like the ones from dungeons.
Also things like dry top reward track seem like a bad joke to me. You never do any of PvE, but you get all the skins, all the achievements, all the items,… Often it’s even more viable and much easier than actually doing the PvE itself.

How do you enjoy GW2 after 9/14 patch?

The level locking is awful and completely ruins the immersion. Before the patch this game was one of the best MMOs and games in general out there, not so much now. It just saddens me that the developers destroyed this game completely.

So the fact that leveling a new character now takes 10-20 more minutes in the early stages completely ruined the game for you? I agree with you that it was an unnecessary annoyance, but if little things like this put you off, I can’t even imagine how would you react to some of the more drastic changes in game mechanics and possibly even major bugs. Just learn to live with it.

The RNG factor is really a thing. I hate how Anet forces us into doing stuff the RNG way and don’t even offer us a chance to work for it in a less random way. Instead of giving an item a drop chance of .1%, why not just introduce a counter that will automatically award players said item after 1000 completions of the respective dungeon? Or AT LEAST give us the opportunity to choose between that? Someone might feel lucky and drop it in much fewer attempts, but players who dislike RNG and want to work towards these goals (all fractal weapons/tonic/…) in a more guaranteed way, so that they can see the progress they made, should be given the opportunity to do it like that. Statistically speaking the item will be of exactly the same value, but those who have bad luck all the time will no longer be constantly discouraged from continuing their hunt as they’ll finally have the option to make some (albeit slow) progress.
I always hated RNG and appreciated that we can do a lot of stuff by another way (looking forward to getting precursor hunt finally). There have been suggestions in the past that players should be able to buy fractal weapons for pristines. I’m not saying what should be buyable and how much should it cost, but balance things aside, we REALLY NEED the option to get around RNG in this game. Especially fractals.

I agree with you. It’s pretty difficult to understand. Anet is a huge company with a whole lot of resources. History has proven they are capable of unimaginable feats. Would it be really so hard to hire just one dedicated person with a passion for dungeons and PvE that would take care of the most important stuff? Not just that… I’d imagine there are lots of people out there (just look at this forum), that would be able and willing to do this for free if they’re given the neccessary tools.
I don’t know a lot about him (wasn’t playing gw2 back then), but many speak nicely of Robert Hrouda. I’m absolutely sure there’re someone like him out there, it’s just Anet started to pretend there were no dungeons in this game ever. It’s the most beatiful content we have available, but it needs at least a little bit of care to stay alive and healthy.
I remember a while back they announced forum specialists, who were supposed to facilitate interaction between players and devs, report major findings and forward things that were most called for to those, who are responsible for them. Some of these specialists are active to this day. What happened to all the reports regarding dungeons in this game? Is there anyone still to read them? Is there any point in doing anything?
It’s pretty sad to just watch your favorite gametype turn to ash. I wish they gave us at least a little glimmer of hope. A little sign that they didn’t forget this game used to have PvE. There are still many wanting to play it. Just nobody to maintain it.

I wouldn’t worry about that. There are very specific reasons why warrior is being brough into most dungeon groups. Banners, EA, PS. No other class can do that. No other class (including revenant as far as I can say) can give might to group during battle so reliably. Revenant might be good. But even having superior DPS (look at engi pre-patch) doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be more useful in good coordinated groups.

Selling Paths and Fractals:Issue or no?

Tarasicodissa.7084

Personally, I see it as an issue. It is eliminating a lot of the challenge of getting groups to do the things groups should do and people are buying their achievements. I think this is just plain stupid.

While I agree this undermines the value of some of the achievements (doesn’t apply to dungeons only – it is true for DT, SW and the jumping puzzles too!), values of these acomplishments is already so incredibly low, that I don’t care anymore. Also, how is it different if a noob somehow manages to find a group of decent players to carry him through a dungeon? The only difference is that when he’s buying, the skilled players at least get paid for their effort, instead of doing it for him for free.
After 2+ years of content in this game, I still believe the ONLY achievement in this game that has an actual value would be “the blazing light”. In this case Anet indeed made sure noone would help you with that, it tells something about YOUR SKILL. I’d like to see more stuff like that, but the sad truth is, everything in gw2 supports a party of 5 players (even PERSONAL story), so you can get carried through everything and no accomplishment has any value whatsoever.
Therefore I think the concept of buying isn’t hurting any part of the game by any means. It’s just a little added bonus for those, who can play well.

Also, I might know just the guy who made that 5 necro CoF lfg.

Not to mention the following scenario might also occur:
Let’s assume every Anet employee gets hit in their head by a rock (I don’t see any other way how they could listen to the OP) and decides to implement this nonsense.

LFG players, who want to do actually dungeons, but usually play alone (a lot of good players are not in a hardcore speedclear guild) will be unable to find decent players, because now random PHIWs are gonna be forced on them. THIS will make most of these players either quit the game, OR start to seek out like-minded people, build up their friendlist and perhaps join some kind of PvE guild, where not everyone is welcome and the leadership actually makes sure (via trials), that everyone entering does understand and play in PvE well. All these people will stop using lfg and begin to only play with friends, so the community will become EVEN MORE segregated.
No matter what you suggest, unless YOU are the one who adapts, everything is gonna eventually turn on you. This “exclusion” you’re talking about can very easily become more and more intensive.

The good players will ALWAYS be able to find a way to do stuff. Whether it be a huge friendlist, a guild or anything that comes up.
The fact is, you’re just hurting yourself. I have no idea why you (all you phiws) are unable to see the clear truth, but it’s your problem. What you suggest isn’t gonna help you. What’s gonna help you is changing your mindset completely. Either that, or stop playing the game. Otherwise you’ll just gonna be frustrated and upset.

If you need to force a change of the game mechanics to be able to enjoy the game, you should probably stop playing it. Either adapt to it, or stop ruining it for us.
I swear to Balthazar I’m glad to be a member of the most respectful and modest part of this game’s community – “the dungeon elitists”! As toxic as we may be, we’re NOWHERE near as toxic as these kind of phiws.

I feel I completely missed the whole point of this beta.
Anet wanted us to give them feedback about how revenant performs in PvP, WvW and PvE. I don’t play the former two gametypes, so I am not able to tell how’s revenant doing. According to a lot of people, pretty bad.
But how in the world are we supposed to give Anet feedback about PvE, when they won’t even give us the possibility to play a viable build? Every serious PvE player, even the devs understand that there’s currently no point of playing anything but zerker, power-based build. Maybe they plan on something different for HoT, but we don’t know that yet. If we’re supposed to evaluate revenant’s performance in the current PvE maps and dungeons, we need to be able to make it into something viable.

These whole 3 days were completely pointless (from the PvE’s perspective). There’s absolutely NO WAY we can give positive feedback if we’re only allowed to play some healing nonsense.
If they wanted to reveal only a portion of this class’ mechanics (which I understand), they should have taken the opposite way. Instead of giving us crappy tanking and healing legends and weapons, they should have immediately let us play Shiro/whatever is for power and reveal the healing part later.
