Then here’s a counter-example anecdote. I’m 20-deep, running dual-drake pets (Salamander and Marsh, usually), and I’ve seen the strange behavior when it comes to the Risen, and a few other enemies like oozes. It’s not level-based, though, because even the Risen in the first Claw Island PS quest (Lvl 50) do it, but the 70+ Sons of Svanire in Frostgorge (?) Sound will still aggro onto the pet.
Yes, I agree 100% about out of combat pet swaps. Why can I immediately swap weapons out of combat, but not pets? It makes no sense whatsoever. Also, if my pet is stowed, make it a permanent stow until I say otherwise. Or, at the very least, let me instantly re-stow my pet when I’m out of combat and took 1 point of damage jumping off a rock.
In the beta, you could. In another shining example of the foresight that Anet puts into their class adjustments, it was nerfed because you could use it to stack quickness out of combat.
Naturally, when it was fixed so that you didn’t get the quickness stack unless your PET (not even you. If you hit with your pull-shot but swap before the pet gets a smack in, no stack), they didn’t bother to revert the nerf.
Gods forbid! a 40 millisecond, which should be .024 of a second slower and not .040 if I am not mistaken.
No, “millisecond” means 1/1000th of a second, or .04 seconds, so you are mistaken. I’m not sure where you got .024 from, unless you’re using a base-60 calculation incorrectly.
I think they may also have a database of literature/media character names to match against.
“Gmork” is pretty obscure, though, so yeah, the poster above is probably dead on with the naive matching algorithm choking on “GM”
Did you happen to do the “transformation” heart events a lot (Snow Leopard in Wayfarer, Pig in err… Kessex, I think?… Moa in ..err.. Sparkfly?, etc…). I know those are fun to grind, and I remember popping up a staff achievement during those when I was in another shape.
I know all the posts about this come up with responses with workarounds that don’t work. I tried half a dozen and none worked, holding me back for a week, but I managed to get through it tonight, so I hope this works for you.
What I did differently in the run that succeeded was, after telling the Asuran researcher (Renk?) that we had to get them out of the cave, I walked back against the cave wall to wait for Trehearne to come up, puff out his chest, and give his little “I, the leader, shall save you!” speech, instead of running right out to aggro the grubs that started spawning. Only when he stopped talking did I go out to fight, and they came with me for once.
Maybe I just finally got lucky, but I hope it helps you, since I definitely feel for you.
I still don’t get this idea, why are they simply forbidding people to farm anything anywhere… If people want to farm? Why not let them?
Call me cynical, but my personal preliminary sniff test seems to detect the distinctive odor of another long-awaited, recently released game in which the developer has a financial interest in the in-game economy…
Oh, joy. =\ Sorry to hear that, then.
Don’t you have to do the WvW maps for 100%?
During the puzzle in Metrica Province, at the wind-part you can fall twice (you don´t get tele-ported but keep on falling). This will put you on the ground alive between the two zones (outside map).
That’s the funniest outcome I’ve seen yet. Plenty of times, I fell and didn’t re-zone back to the start. Instead, I’d crater for 95k damage by the power station halfway across the map. Once, I managed to survive. I think I bounced off a cloud or something. <_<
It’s not a bug. It’s a “fix” for some sort of exploit involving Risen Grubs (though why they couldn’t just turn off the drops or whatever without spamming us with the kitten message is beyond me.)
If you can, try playing the quest with a friend or two. I’ve identified the issue, but this may get you guys through it until the update hits that contains the fix.

No dice. In fact, a guildie and I tried to do just that, and it threw us both into our own solo instances…
Confirmed happening with tokens from CM.
I understand what you mean, but technically there is no restrictions really for content. The same content you see in story mode, you see in Explore mode mostly. If players want to see what the dungeon’s look like, Story mode is fine.
Considering set pieces (“what dungeons look like”) to be the end all and be all of “content” is, I think, an excessively narrow definition.
So why am I still reading mass complaints, and only three people have approached me, two of which are actually people who don’t have trouble finding people or tactics?
Perhaps because you said “Euro only,” for starters.
No, you can do it anyway if you are willing to communicate, mark targets, basically adapt. They did it one way, we did it another, you yet another way. You’re just not willing to better yourself whereas we are.
At least his counterexample included tactics, even if they did make my point about the Holy Trinity. Your post, on the other hand, offers nothing but assumption, pomposity, and a general indication that you’re a rather unpleasant person to be around. Thanks for nothing, mate.
I’m going to take this apart one by one.
[snipped]
You’re not taking much “apart” when you echo pretty much exactly what I said. Except I never said anything about Rumblus himself since, if you re-read what I said, we never actually saw him.
I do agree that the burrower one can be challenging. What I do now is take an elementalist with Meteor Shower with me, rips up the holes in seconds. We basicly split up between the holes, stopping the gravelings in their tracks. There’s three holes. I’m the tank, so I take care of one. The ele roflstomps one every 30 seconds, and the others support where needed or pick up the third hole. Goes pretty easy that way. The first time I had some difficulty, but we had a good necro and a second warrior that could take some of the heat. So four people defended one side as I roamed to destroy the burrows (also with a greatsword) We got that down once we couldn’t get the holes down fast enough anymore (around 50%) and we got through on the 4th try in total. However, after the patch it seems this route has been made alot easier, I don’t even have to direct people to holes because they seem to pop up slower.
And here you make my point with me again. You’ve got a tank and nukers to take out the burrows! Hey! That’s 2/3 of the HT right there again. And I’m glad you did better DPS with a greatsword. You’re not a ranger. It’s not a high DPS weapon for us, but it’s the only one I had in my bag that could hit the stupid things without line-of-sight glitching.
So what you’re basically telling me is that a variation on my tactic would have worked, if we would have ignored Anet’s constant hyping to the contrary and stuck to HT.
It’s especially important that if you try to get people to break out of old MMO mantras like “holy trinity”, that you properly teach them what the kitten you’re game is all about. Saying you have these mechanics and figure it out is one way and it works fine for some, yet is completely ineffective for others.
Nicely put, Bruno. Especially when they seem to WANT to be pushing Holy Trinity in some of these. My guildies did an AC “Rumblus” path run last night. It didn’t go too badly at first, though we were glad we had a tank…cough err… I mean a guardian with uber-defensive spec to take care of that idiotic trap hallway (What’s the point of the red circles if you’re going to be hit outside of them, anyway?). The Louie was pretty easy once we got him to kite around the outer ring, and the “bonus” encounter with the one-shotting troll was irritating, but unremarkable.
But the lovers’ tomb? W.T.F. We couldn’t nail down a strategy that didn’t fail horribly. We came CLOSEST (58%) with my suggestion that we huddle up around one of the collectors and fight off the zerg while a roamer tries to take care of the burrows. Unfortunately, I was elected as that roamer, and I couldn’t get any DPS off on them, since I’m a ranger and my fast weapons – aka every ranged weapon I had – bugged out with kitten “obstructed.” So I end up swinging my greatsword at them like akitten doingkitten all damage while 200 gravelings zerg my party and eat our faces.
Color me especially impressed that, thanks to the rewards nerf, we came away completely empty handed.
The masters mining pick is the same as a darksteel mining pick which allows you to mine platinum ore if you are trying to mine orichalum ore with it you have a very high chance of getting ruined ore.
Unless something’s changed in the past week, the Masters pick is actually a steel pick, I think. It won’t get platinum, but will get Iron and Gold.
I think targeting in general is broken. I frequently lose my target (not just my LOS) when my ranger over-kites and the mob ends up behind me. Having my attacks stop makes sense. Having my ranger forget what she was doing? Not so much…
