Ranger Warhorn #5 (Call of the Wild) forces combat?

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Targren.6073

I originally thought that, but Call of the Wild does not force combat, but if you use it with a mob selected it will alert your pet to go and attack it, thus forcing combat; if you keep your pet on passive or don’t use it with a target selected, it shouldn’t activate combat!

No, I originally thought it was my pet’s fault (Looks like I owe Sarah Jane an apology) but it was definitely auto-attacking that did it. It’s made the warhorn speed buff all but useless in jumping puzzles with mobs, since I end up stuck in combat after sending the baddies into “invulnerable” after chucking axes at the wall …

It helps to have multiple alts that you’re all leveling through the starter zones at the same time, and only ONE Tailor out of all of them who gets all the Jute scraps.

It should be pointed out that leatherworkers (I’m maxed) also go through a buttload of cloth, and I think tailors may use a buttload of leather (I haven’t started my tailoring yet) as well. These should probably not be done at the same time.

Clearly, they have the ability. Whether or not they have the desire is the question.

Environmental weapons pickups lagging?

I was in AC Story with some guildies today, and during the Lovers fight, I found that if I was autoattacking, pressing [f] to pick up a boulder was very, very unreliable. Throwing the boulder set my autoattack to firing again, but turning off the auto-attack completely (ctrl-right click) made the problem go away.

Is anyone else noticing this?

Do weapon skills match traits?

in Ranger

Posted by: Targren.6073

Targren.6073

Well, there is one slight flaw in your reasoning. With its high attack speed (even post-nerf) and low per-hit damage, the shortbow is absolutely a weapon ripe for criticals (faster attacks = more critical hits). Unfortunately, the per-hit damage is so low that a critical shortbow build is still inferior to a condition build.

Same logic applies to a mainhand axe. Its autoattack also does no conditions, but what it does is hit up to 3 targets per attack. That’s three potential crits for the price of one, and unlike the current SB, its crits, even only modestly traited, can tear stuff up. For example, thanks to really poor level scaling boundaries in Fireheart Rise, I found myself downscaled to L63 while fighting 4 L69 Charr tonight. Popped QZ and RaO, and spammed the hell out of the pinball axe. It was close, but I managed to survive. (Dat feel…)

Didn’t even bother finishing the entire post, since I saw a couple more subtle jabs and flaunting that holier than thou attitude.

Right, like that comment about “that’s why you don’t have a full set” wasn’t waving your kitten around. Not at all.

And he still doesn’t think players will just spam run AC path 2, or CoF path 2 to get any armor set of their choosing.

Next time, finish reading the post. I absolutely acknowledged that would be the case for SOME players. My position is that those players are irrelevant, since they’re already doing that anyway, and the benefit to the majority of the other players who are then able to enjoy some variety outweighs it, if one takes the intelligent path and removes elitist ego whining from the equation.

You are incorrect in your first statement…. The dungeons offer 3 variants of stats so you can mix and match.

Confirmed. You’re correct, I got that wrong. Good to know, thank you. Now I need to see if I can find a list of dungeon-to-stat-sets and hope the combination I want isn’t Arah… kitten Lupicus and his resets.

Extremely stupid hat.

Targren.6073

LOL. Too bad you don’t think that way, and that’s probably the reason why you don’t have a full dungeon set. How is my post fanboying? Are we spitting out words that don’t make sense anymore, just to insult other people? I understand the point you are trying to make though, but tell me, how does that solve the problem of having people run the easiest, fastest instance for the tokens, just to buy an armor set from a different dungeon? You know very well this is going to be a problem, and don’t pretend that this isn’t going to happen.

Actually, the reason I don’t have a full dungeon set is that I don’t want a full dungeon set. It leads to top/bottom heavy builds since every piece has the same stats and a more balanced approach is better for maximum flexibility. It’s also not worth getting to transmute onto a good armor set since A) Having a separate transmute stone for 80 is a blatant BS cash grab, and they’re ugly as hell. They might be nice with OPs idea, since I could get them to transmute different stats on to good-looking armor, but as it is, it’s pretty pointless. There are less annoying ways to deck out in exotics.

At this point, I’m running each dungeon path once to get the achievements, then grabbing the lowbie gold armor to salvage or feed to the forge just to get the tokens out of my bank slots, because they’re useless otherwise.

And no, I wasn’t throwing out a word to insult you. I was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt by assuming that you were blinded by loyalty rather than just incapable of reading and thinking in a straight line.

As for the problem of people running the same path over and over again, that’s already been dealt with with the stupid DR mechanic. If anything, the OPs idea would INCREASE dungeon visibility, because you’d get groups that float between the different dungeons, since they want the tokens. Yes, some people would run the same path over and over again, but we ALREADY have that going on. That’s an issue of bad design, not a consequence of OPs idea.

It’s a good idea from a playability standpoint. The current implementation promotes endless, mindless grinding, since when you do the same dungeon over and over again, it gets easier, and then it BECOMES the easy path that you’re apparently so afraid of. That it offends someone’s kitten/ego is a stupid reason to dismiss it.

I don’t see it as a problem at all.

Since value is determined by the intersection of what someone is willing to buy for and what someone is willing to sell for, someone willing to sell for less changes that “magical” X to X-1 for as long as someone is willing to take the loss. And there’s nothing “fair” about “first come, first serve,” like you argue. If you don’t want to be undercut, then YOU have to be the one willing to take the loss. The lower YOU sell for below the current market rate, the less likely you are to be undercut. If that means taking 5%, 15%, or 50% off of the current sell price, that’s your choice.

The higher you price it, the longer you wait.

After thinking about this nerf for a week or so, I have decided the reason they did it was because they saw a majority of rangers using the same or similar builds. They nerfed the damage to force players into playing a different build. The problem is there really aren’t any other viable builds.

Pretty much. Now they just see a majority of rangers playing the same or similar build, but less effectively because it’s still better than any of the other options. Brilliant, isn’t it?

The fun factor is diminished because you play to get the gear as fast as possible, instead of focusing on just playing the dungeon and coming up with strategies, without thinking of just give me my God kitten token while running it.

Speak for yourself. I find the “fun factor” being diminished because I’m running the same freaking dungeon over and over and over again, rather than getting some variety by running the others. THAT’S the contradiction in the red post’s reasoning above. For a development philosophy that hates farming and grinding so intensely, they seem awfully fond of requiring farming and grinding.

It has nothing to do with wanting to be “handed” anything or “rushing to get the gear,” and if you stopped fanboying long enough to think for a second you’d recognize that. We’d still have to “work” for the armor, we could just spread out that work over a change of scenery rather than having to split up because Guildie A wants the CM armor, but Guildie B wants CoF and you want TA.

Apparently the highly-touted “social” aspect of the game needs to be sacrificed on the altar of the Holy Grind, instead.

But in all seriousness, I think folks are taking this way to personally. I don’t know what you all have been doing that makes it so you easily notice that 40 milliseconds or whatever, but I’ve been using shortbow from the beginning and I can honestly say that the only reason I even noticed a tiny difference was because of all the spam on the forums about how the SB was nerfed. If not for all the forum tears, I probably would still not know about the change. I haven’t even changed my build. I certainly don’t die more easily… the change has nothing to do with survivability.

Your observational skills, or lack thereof, notwithstanding, it’s not a question of “taking it personally.” It’s a matter of the development and company philosophy that’s been exposed by this whole mess, and in other “fixes” (DR, anti-farm, etc.): the design is frequently slipshod, the implementation often sloppy, and the communication with the players alternately condescending and dishonest.

The thing that surprises me about it is all the people who say that they’re “Surprised by Anet’s attitude.” AFAIK, their only other game was Guild Wars, so they either didn’t have enough experience with ANet to draw a conclusion that was contradicted by this behavior, or they should have known better. This is nothing new. The same crap went on in GW1.

The main problem we see with a universal token system, is that players will find the easiest dungeons they can do within the DR system’s influence range, and just do them over and over.

Instead, they just run the easiest path of the dungeon they want the armor for, over and over, and all that other content goes unseen, and the armor has no value anyway.

Why not adjust the rewards based on the difficulty? Whatever one’s opinion of the DR system, you can still use it if the base reward for Arah is 100 tokens and the base for CM is 20 (numbers fabricated for example purposes).

On a personal note, I know, for example, that under the current system, I have no reason to ever do SE, since the armor is, to my aesthetic taste, hideous. (No, it’s not worth running dungeon just to make an “Are you my Mummy?” joke)

Do people forget about the damage their pets do?

I think Jayne said it best.

“Ten percent of nothing, out of nothing… carry the nothing…”

Useless in PvP, Useless in dungeons, useless in the last 3 game zones. But yeah, pets are GREAT for the first 5% of the time you’re playing the game!

Making pets a requirement was one of the biggest bone-headed design decisions Anet made (and they made a lot). Mine only exists to get swapped out every 16 seconds too buff my paltry damage.
