[Suggestion] Reduce max level from 80 to 20.

This game isn’t, and has has never really been, about leveling. The only real point of it is so that you can learn your class as you level, but that’s not really all that important in GW2 and 20 levels is more than enough. My suggestion is that the level cap be reduced from 80 to 20. This would reduce the time it takes to level (which lets be honest. After 1 or 2 characters, leveling all the way to 80 gets as boring as watching paint dry, and I’m on number 6 now) while also adding the ability to more easily add new features such as an advanced or second class system. I never played GW1, but the level 20 max level sounds much better then the copy-paste 80 that currently exists.
Right now I feel like the game is trying to focus on 2 end games at the same time those being some gear treadmill(ascended) and some horizontal progression (rare skins/legendaries). Dividing your focus is a sure way to fail. I believe Anet needs to pick one and stick with it, and with this not being a traditional MMO, that focus needs to be the horizontal progression. Reducing the level cap enforces this path.
I know that there would be some hurdles to overcome with this change such as what to do with the personal story, but I feel like the game would be better off if it were done. I’d like to hear what everyone thinks about this. Please be courteous and thoughtful with your response so that we can make this game as good as it can be.

TLDR: Reduce the level cap from 80 to 20 because leveling is boring and that isn’t what this game is about.

[Suggestion] Skills for empty off hand

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tarrek.7436

There are some awesome weapons and abilities in this game, and some of them you just want to have all alone. A rapier for example. Generally that isn’t a weapon you would wield with something else. My suggestion is as follows:

- When wielding a single one handed weapon in your main hand and your off hand is empty you will get new skills appropriate to the weapon in the slots that are currently empty
- The stats of the one handed weapon will be doubled for balance

This suggestion offers more customization and choice in play style while being less of an undertaking then say an entire new set of skills for a new weapon or the like.
Anyway, what do you think? Should there be any other benefits or penalties for using just a single weapon?

Haha. Yeah, a video card is high on my list of upgrades.
We had fun tonight. It was a spur of the moment thing and we got a lot of people including several from other servers involved, so I call that a success.
We are planning on trying a new years walk across the world so be on the lookout for a forum announcement. Early next year.

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

in CDI

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

Since it’s not over yet I thought I’d throw in my idea. I haven’t read the entire 31 pages of suggestions, so if this is already done, I apologize.

The Guild Airship
Overview:
The guild airship adds a new spin on the traditional guild halls that many mmos make use of. Rather than boring stationary buildings, airships take all that could be contained in a hall and throws it into the air. The size and shape of the ship as well as the style is all up to the guild in question, and all options are available to any guild (though larger ships and such will have a heavier cost.)

Goal of Proposal:
The idea of a guild airship accomplishes several things and adds to the uses of a guild hall. It creates a place for guilds to meet and enjoy, adds a stronghold of sorts that might be used in a new WvW sort of map, removes the risk of too little space or too much, and maybe most importantly, adds a flare to the traditional halls of the past. A traditional guild hall might have shortcuts to crafting and the like as well as some GvG functionality, but a guild airship would allow for a war map that makes them central to the control and conquest of one or more new mist maps. The airship could bring together guilds while creating a new mode of play that can draw in additional players.

Functionality: The guild airship map would be accessible through a new portal in LA or through a menu such as the current WvW one. It would teleport you to one or more new maps where you can access your guild’s ship and the merchant who sells upgrades, new ships, or anything else that they would contain. You could than travel to warzone maps that would focus on the conquest of areas that could include floating strongholds that require the ships weapons to conquer in addition to keeps on the ground alike to the current EOTM map. The map would place many servers onto each side, and there would be 3 factions as there are for EOTM. The focus of the mode would be to hold the most ground with the greatest strength being that the ships would be required thus destroying the current zergfests that hold strong in the rest of the game. The ships would force guild members to work in concert to succeed against threats and create a much more team oriented play style.

Risks:
Some players might not like the more team focused gameplay. Others might like the current zerg fights. Others might just not like the idea of a non traditional guild hall. As far as the actual mechanics goes, there is always the danger that the engine can’t handle all the stuff going on. Hundreds of players, giant ships, and many cannons might be too much in addition to holding all the information of what the ships contain as far as guild services goes. There is also the matter of what happens when a ship is destroyed. Would it respawn, or would guilds have to rebuild it. I think a better method might be to place it in a state of disrepair and make it unable to be used in battle until guilds can repair them with WvW supplies? Also, what happens when a player dies. Can they respawn on the ship? do they have to run back or maybe fly back with other one man ships (possibly fighters). Maybe they can spawn on the ships but the waypoints go down when in combat like they do in WvW. Lots of risks here and I’d like to hear what others think, but I also like the idea of a guild hall with some gameplay functionality.

A suggestion for future gold sinks

in Living World

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

The tickets for the queen’s gauntlet are an obvious gold sink, and yeah it’s only 20 silver. That said, there are players who don’t have a ton of gold and there are some who do. Future gold sinks need to be made so that the players with tons of gold to spare use that instead of squeezing every penny from people who don’t play the TP. This is not a complaint. I have the gold to buy tickets. This is a solution that makes gold sinks that make more sense. You are going to get a lot more gold out of the system (which is the point of gold sinks) by targeting those who have it.

A cool suggestion to add a little to WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

I have a cool suggestion that I believe could improve at least 2 aspects of WvW, those being simple tower/keep defense, and the use of ballistas (which lets be honest, are the least used siege weapon).
Currently towers are left mostly abandoned after being capped because they can easily be rushed and manned so there is no reason to have a couple defenders stick around.
Ballistas are nice and have their uses, but they could be improved with my suggestion.

The suggestion is… airships.
WAIT. Just read.
These wouldn’t be massive raid carrying ships. They would be small 5 man ships with no weapons. They would move slowly and have to be build at a keep or tower. They would cost 4X the supply as a golem.

An airship will improve the defense aspect of WvW by forcing some actual defense of towers/keeps. An airship can fly over the walls and drop off people. They would move slow though, so even 2 or 3 people would be able to shoot it down before it is able to drop off it’s cargo. Ballistas would of course be able to target them and so their importance would grow as they would be the only siege weapon able to reliably hit them.

Take that idea further and add weapon based airships and we could get some air battles and stuff going. I think that would be cool, but it might not be for everyone. Anyway, that’s the idea.

TLDR: Airships to force more tower/keep defense and improve usefulness of ballistas

You shouldn’t be farming pvp for that anyway. So buhbye.

Why is that? Or do you not have a reason. Statements without thought or reason are useless in every way. They serve only to make someone seem unintelligent. Even worse, on these forums they do nothing to help developers make decisions in the game and only clutter what little there is that does do so. In the future, make some arguments towards what you say. It’s a good practice to bring into your future.

I just want to say that I am extremely satisfied with the new reward track system. I never did much pvp other then WvW before the patch because honestly I hate to lose, do more pve, and didn’t feel like I was getting much out of it before. Now I have something to work towards. I’ve been having a lot of fun on my ranger trying to play intelligently as well. Rangers, as I’m sure you all know, are not the best class right now. In fact I’d make the claim that they are the worst, and I main one. Still I am having fun using the maps to my advantage. Skyhammer for instance is a great level for knocking people off edges or shooting from far away and up above. Anywho, I just wanted to say that the new stuff is a great addition and thanks for doing it. Good job guys.

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: World Bosses and Events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

The new system for the larger world bosses says that they will be on a 3 hour spawn timer. This means that, including prep time, players have to wait up to 4 hours for a single encounter as well as limit the chance for this encounter to every 8 hours. The problem here is that people don’t have 4 hours to sit and wait. We have jobs and families and other obligations, and limiting the people who are actually able to do these events is simply a bad decision.
Change the actual spawn timer to an exact time, then have the encounter occur then. This allows for planned attempts with plenty of time for prep.
Change the spawn time to every 4 hours instead of 8. This allows for people who are not able to play at certain times to have the ability to at other times.

I don’t know who thought that a 3 hours spawn window was a good idea, but I’m sure there are people to talk to about the final decision, so please use some sense before making a decision and consider everyone instead of just the people who are able to play for hours and hours without stopping, because the number of those is few.

The New Orange Circles: Functionality vs Art

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

Hi Xenon,
I am a recent graduate in game design and art, and I agree that it is a disappointment that many of the animations in GW2 go unnoticed. They are brilliant and what makes this my favorite MMO out there. That said, as a frequenter of MMOs, for large scale battles involving tons of players and lots of blinding effects, something like these circles are necessary. Were it an encounter for a small number of people then yes, I’d say leave them out, but I’ve done a lot of raiding in my years of MMO experience. Without an obvious indicator, these great encounters would be impossible to complete. It is a shame that most people will fail to see the hard work and great design of the actual characters we are fighting, but I think it is a necessary evil in order to facilitate the large scale battles.

These new encounters, and even the old ones, are all pretty great. But when there’s too many people you get screwed into the overflow. What is the point of having a server that you can plan things out with if you are forced off any time you want to do a major group event. I have yet to kill even Teq and god knows the same problem will continue with this stupid worm. It is time to rework your servers so that we can actually play with our server.

Why can't we do events together?

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

A once a year event that is unranked and awards relatively little is very little cause to force balance over the spirit of a multiplayer game. And don’t act like this is something that obviously has to happen. The fact is these events are supposed to be fun little things where the rewards are the meta achievements and the things you can spend the items from the gifts on. Everyone has the opportunity to group up or go into something solo, and you get a reward either way, so killing the point of having guilds and groups is a stupid decision. Sorry, but there is no arguing that.

Why can't we do events together?

in A Very Merry Wintersday

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

What is the point of joining a guild when we can’t do events together. The snowball mayhem game, for example, as well as the inquisition game from Halloween both exclude group gameplay. This is stupid. I should be able to play a game with my friends and my guild. This is a simple fix. If I am in a group and join one of these games, a prompt should appear on my group members screens and if they decide to join they should be brought into the same instance as me. I honestly don’t know how someone could come up with the idea to exclude this from a multiplier game. It is in the most basic sense, stupid.

Tarrek.7436

So I transfered to Dragonbrand just before the free world transfers ended due to a couple guildies from another MMO playing on it. At the time I thought that I would just be able to continue playing as I did before. God was I wrong.
My usual play style in this game is to play WvW mostly and do an occasional dungeon. So anyway, I get over here and go into EB and find… that it is dead. We are heavily out numbered and own nothing. “It’s early though,” I think to myself. maybe it’s just an off morning. Over the next week I check back in on it several times and notice that the numbers barely ever get any better and even when they are at their highest they are still crap.
Outside WvW it isn’t much better. In the time since I’ve transfered I’ve been able to run one Arah SM only do to the recent Arah changes, and one fractals.
Are people on this server just dull, or is it dead? Is something going to be done about this or is anyone who actually wants to play the game and is stuck on this server just screwed?
Also, don’t even mention transfering servers. A transfer cost that is half the cost of the game is simply stupid.

The problem with all these suggestions is that they shouldn’t be neccessary. I shouldn’t have to leave my guild and transfer servers to do a dungeon or look at some third party bs. When you develop a game and see a problem you fix it, not force players to go through hoops to do something.

In my view, the end game design is a huge problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tarrek.7436

Tarrek.7436

There are some serious problems with the current end game. The largest one is that the end game zone is dead. The zone that a player is supposed to go to at max level is DEAD. That is messed up!
The dungeons are just there for show because anyone who hasn’t played since launch or who had to take a break got left behind and now has no way of catching up. No one does dungeons and even Fractals is off limits because everyone is on 7 or 8 while the people who had to stop for even 2 small weeks are stuck on 1 with no one who will run them.
The only thing that works for the end game is WvW, and that is because it works at any level. As fun as it is, even that gets boring when it is the only thing that someone can do.
