I have 60 characters. I have space problem too.

I think the problem is called hoarding. Deep down you know 90% of the things you hoard have no use, but you keep hoarding them. Just in case they find a use in the future.

For example http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Princess_Miya%27s_Wig, should I trash it or not! What if they find a use in the future!!!!

Why am I even stocking up one time use hair kit when I have a permanent one! But those cost a fortune on the gem store!

What if apothycory become the new meta! Better stuck up those ascended ring from fotm!

Yeah, I’m actually honestly not much of a hoarder myself, except for those ascended rings (I just can’t bring myself to sell something like that for a few scant silvers at a vendor). Aside from that, I only keep stuff I know I’ll use or that I’m keeping for investment purposes (like skins I know will go up in price, or precursors, etc). I do know a few guildies that love to hoard though, even going as far as littering their own inventories with normal, rare items.

However, things like bandit crests tend to pile up even if you’re not trying to hoard them and even if you’re spending or destroying them all the time it is kinda annoying to have to always organize your inventory over and over, especially if you play in places like Drytop or Silverwastes regularly, where you’re getting geodes or crests really fast.

I’d want all the currencies added to the wallet for convenience more than anything else because it also means that I can switch characters without having to worry about moving currency tokens over to a new character every time. There’s nothing more annoying than getting to Silverwastes with one of your alts only to realize that you forgot to move some of your bandit crests over to him, which is a nuisance only further aggravated when you remember that there are no banks in Silverwastes either. The same thing used to happen with gold back in the day, which you had to deposit in your bank regularly whenever you wanted to buy items on another character.

The wallet was designed to alleviate these issues, but unfortunately, we end up going back to square one again whenever a new currency is introduced. I’m actually rather surprised by the lack of foresight in this regard.

Someone already created a mock-up of an improved wallet. Check this out:

Note the Grid View at the left.

Yeah, this would be a good solution because it would also be easy enough to add and remove stuff from the wallet without needing to worry about design aesthetics being messed up.

Bandit Crests, and geodes should both be in the account wallet, they are after all a currency like dungeon tokens are already and regular fractals relics. so i agree with those. Festival tokens i do not as they are a yearly event, cant be done every day, and would server very little purpose to add them in(in my opinion)

small correction though, wvw tokens are already part of the wallet, if you are talking about Badges of Honor that is.

As I mentioned in my post above, not everyone can spend all of their festival tokens during a seasonal even and they often end up with leftovers that they save for the next time that event comes around.

In addition to that, sometimes people don’t spend their tokens right away because they aren’t sure what to spend them on. For myself personally, I still have a lot of WvW tokens that I have yet to spend and they take up a fair amount of inventory space. I see no reason why these shouldn’t be added to the account wallet as a currency for the sake of convenience, especially for wvw tokens considering wvw seasons happen more frequently than other yearly events.

Hey guys.

these include, but are not limited to, things like Bloodstone dust and other T6 mats, Geodes, Bandit Crests, Spinal Blades, Heirlooms, Festival Tokens, WvW Claim Tickets, Black Lion Claim Tickets, various Wintersday clothes and more.

You kinda answered your own question. They are crafting materials and should not be counted as currency. Geodes and Bandit Crests, agreed… but the rest are seasonal or no longer available.

I mentioned those crafting materials to highlight the trend of creating new items that take up large amounts of inventory space. But, crafting mats aside, Geodes, Bandit Crests and all the various tokens all count as currency and can only be used as currency, not as crafting items. Therein, I don’t see how I answered my own question, unless you’ve muddled the context of my words.

Not all of those currencies are seasonal either. And, even for the seasonal ones, not everyone will manage to spend all of their seasonal tokens they have and some will have leftovers, or will want to save for the next year when they can acquire and spend them again. Now they have to sit with tokens in their inventory for a year+ which is even more inconvenient. Once again, it’s a situation that would be absolved by adding these tokens, as well as all other currency items, to the wallet, where they should be.

Hey guys.

I wanted to bring up a topic that has kinda been bothering me for a while now. The real gist of the problem that I want to point out is that it feels to me as though ANet, through more recent developments, has not been very considerate of players when it comes to inventory and bank space. They’ve introduced new currencies and mats that tend to take up a lot of inventory space very fast, and these include, but are not limited to, things like Bloodstone dust and other T6 mats, Geodes, Bandit Crests, Spinal Blades, Heirlooms, Festival Tokens, WvW Claim Tickets, Black Lion Claim Tickets, various Wintersday clothes and more.

Now a while ago, ANet also introduced a new system that was meant to alleviate bank space problems when it came to various currencies taking up our inventory slots, and that was the wallet system. The idea was that those currencies that were used for purchasing items from various vendors would be added to the wallet in an account wide format so that not only would players not be hindered by thousands of tokens littering their inventories, but it would also be more convenient because you wouldn’t have to move said tokens to and from your bank every time you wanted to swap characters.

The biggest issue, given this, is that since the wallet system was introduced, ANet have not utilized it properly when it comes to the introduction of new currencies that have arrived post the time that system went live. Although I can understand items like bloodstone not being added to the wallet – because they technically count as crafting mats and not as currency used to purchase items – I don’t see why currencies like festival tokens, heirlooms, bandit crests, geodes and WvW tokens should not be added to the wallet.

For me personally, my inventories for a few of my characters are being flooded by bandit crests (as an example) and no matter how much I seem to spend them, I always get them faster than I can use them up. This leads to a lot of frustration and I often end up having to either spend the tokens on things I don’t really need (like an excessive surplus of bandit keys), or I end up just destroying them, which is something that could easily be alleviated simply by adding them to the Wallet instead.

It just kinda bothers me because it feels like they’re intentionally trying to inconvenience us and force us to buy more bank slots when they could streamline the system more, which is precisely what the account wallet was meant to do. They added it to the game, so why not use it as it was meant to be used?

I think the idea is to add immersion and lore friendliness with the toggle helmet, shoulders, and gauntlets features. The idea being that you’d toggle them off while in town or not in combat.

They’ve obviously failed at this. A better option would’ve been to auto toggle whatever you have selected when you draw or sheath your weapon.

As to your point, I agree…they should just make everything toggle able. We’d have a lot more options with outfits and so forth. Unfortunately we will not these QoL(quality of life) changes at all……………….maybe in GW3.

If everything was toggle-able, then you’d see a lot of players simply running around in their underwear all the time, even in combat. I doubt you’d get much more immersion breaking than that.

@OP

I do understand shoulders, gloves and helmets being toggle-able. I’m not so sure about footwear though. When you see people go out and about in the world, you’ll almost always see them wearing footwear of some kind, yet you’ll almost never see them wearing gloves or hats unless for utility purposes, or if they’re in much colder (or perhaps much hotter) environments where protecting your limbs and face/head from exposure to the elements is important.

I’d say it would be race or culture dependent though. Races like Asura, Sylvari and Charr already have a lot of clothing options that either expose their feet or render them barefoot. This is probably in part do to their culture, their oneness with nature (Sylvari) or even just the general difficulty of creating footwear for them (Asura and Charr have claws witch often stick out of footwear).

Humans on the other hand, especially those from Kryta, are rarely seen walking around barefoot. It probably has a lot to do with the hierarchy of nobility and the general culture of the humans in that region (though I am admittedly no expert on GW lore). In a way, even in the real world it would not be considered acceptable in most cases, to come to work or go out into a public space like a shopping mall as an adult, barefoot.

I think what would be cool is, rather than making footwear toggle-able (which in some cases would be immersion breaking), they could rather just introduced more options for footwear that catered more to different people’s tastes. Things like sandals, slippers, shorter boots or shoes (especially for males, who have less options for smaller footwear as opposed to just wearing tall boots all the time), or some unique themed options that do allow them to go barefoot, but that still make sense and aren’t immersion breaking (like tribal armor, which leaves you barefoot, but with tribal adornments and paint so it still feels like it isn’t just random).

Bring Back (a little) Race Specific Dialogue

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

I agree with you in a sense. I do think the story has focused a little bit too specifically on the Sylvari so far. It makes sense for the story around Mordremoth to involve the Sylvari more exclusively, mostly because it is the progenitor of their race and seeks to control them, but even if we go back to the original story, when the battle was against Zhaitan, the Sylvari still featured predominantly above most other races.

Basically, in the first few years of GW2’s lifespan, Sylvari have been in the limelight and will continue to be so in the expansion it seems, which could pave the way for a Sylvari-centric future for the next two years until another expansion comes.

I really would like to see the other races of Tyria becoming focal points at times as well. I’m sure the Norn will be the focus when Jormag comes into the fray, and the Asura when Primordeus does, but what about humans? They should have actually been a more central focus when we were dealing with Zhaitan and Orr, considering Orr was a human city where the gods once resided. Yet humans kinda just took a back seat to the Sylvari even then, when they should have been front and center, in my opinion.

All-in-all, i just feel like I should have been playing A Sylvari all along, because the story around them is currently much richer than it is for the other races. I don’t think a game like this should honestly ever make you feel left out for not playing a specific race above another, and should treat all players of all races more fairly and equally, but hopefully they’ll all get their time to shine in the future.

I am glad that they at least kept some race specific dialogue options for some of the quests for LS season 2. Like how playing as a human, you seem to be reluctant to give an heirloom of Ascalon over to Rytlock when he wants to use it for a ritual, where as an Asura you hand it over without a second though. However, I would like to see race choices having a bigger impact on your personal story progression and how you interact with NPC’s, to an extent where you feel like there’s a purpose and meaning to your choice beyond simple aesthetic changes.

Teeny Tiny Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Tenrai Senshi.2017

Hard to be excited with the expansion when there’s so little they’re adding. Factions itself added a whole new continent with 20+ new maps, a full narrative, 3 new pvp game modes, 2 new professions, 2 new elite zones, new armors, new skills, new weapons, new titles, 4 new guild halls and more that I haven’t though off. And they made all of this in 1 year with less than half of the number of employees they currently have.

Gotta say, pretty disappointing.

And how do you know the new areas in HoT won’t be as expansive as you expect? We’ll probably get a full new narrative as well, that seems obvious. We have new wvw and PvP stuff as shown. We only have one new class but also added new specializations for every other class, probably including the new one, so that trumps just two new classes in my books. I’m also pretty sure we’ll get new armor, new titles, guild halls (already confirmed, and I’m sure there will be a good amount of variety there) and then there’s still things like masteries being added as well.

The bottom line is, they’ve only given us a very brief overview so far, and haven’t actually listed all the new content in detail. So to me it seems pointless to judge for better or for worse just yet. O_o

Buying a new account on sale for $20 sounds better. 5 character slots, 4 guild banks, more login rewards, the ability to mail yourself and infinite trading post storage space for when you feel like investing.

Well, that’s also true. Lol. XD

But still, that does beg the question. Isn’t it bad for ANet in the long run if there’s a lot of accounts flooding the servers (with multiple accounts only being owned by one active player)? I mean, I’m sure it affects their capacity (though I’ll admit, I’m no expert on this) and you still only really have one player spending for multiple accounts so they’re not really benefiting from it.

I have 9 permanent bank license. So obviously people’ll pay for convenient.

You really need to look at it in 3 different ways.

1) Anet have nothing to loose. You said people’ll rather buy another character to store items. So Anet get the money either way.

2) soul bound item. People dont’ have a choice since they can’t put it on mule.

3) you obviously care. That’s why you make this post. Many people care more than you so they bought all the bank tab. Actually I’m pretty sure many people bought all the bank tab before eventhough they can buy another character slot.

I’m just making a suggestion that I think would benefit both ANet and other players. Yes, lots of players will buy bank tab expansions either way, but a lot of them won’t if they weigh the costs. Not everyone makes a lot of gold, nor has the money to spend on gems all the time, so some do approach the game with a more cautious spending trend even if it means inconveniencing themselves. If the bank expansion price comes down a bit and becomes more appealing as a whole, you’d get more sales on both ends of the spectrum, not just with the higher earners.

Does it affect me as much? No, not really. I spend money now and then either way to support ANet, but I do think some of their gem store prices are unbalanced. For example, the new shadow of the dragon armor pieces, which are 300 gems each for the shoulders, helm and gloves (3 pieces for a total of 900 gems) vs a full set of armor (6 pieces for a total of 800 gems). It just doesn’t make sense from a monetary perspective when you compare the two, so on pure principle, I’d never buy those former items purely because it feels like a ripoff relative to other purchasable items that I’ve bought or am considering buying. I know others who feel the same way.

I reckon ANet would get more sales out of people if their prices were a bit more balanced. I’m sure others feel the same way and I’m sure all of us have, at times, felt that an item is a ripoff or not working as it should. The silver fed salvage-o-matic is a good example and ANet made changes to to it readjust the balance and make it more valuable relative to its costs. I don’t see why they can’t approach other items on the gem store with the same mindset.

Also, why do you always assume that if someone makes a suggestion, it’s purely for their own benefit? I happen to be interested in the future of this game and its players, not just for me. So naturally I’ll make suggestions that I think could improve the game or make it better for others.

This argument’s been made all the way back when extra bank tabs were introduced to the GW1 cash shop. I think the exchange was even worse then, with a bank tab costing about the same as a character slot. The explanation was basically the same as is being made here – it’s more convenient to have a bank tab rather than the same number of slots on a mule.

Of course, back then they also didn’t really have a working microtransactions system either, and had a minimum price per transaction, which I think also influenced pricing.

Also, don’t forget that larger bags cost gold, although comparatively speaking that’s less of a cost than it used to be.

Yeah, it only takes about 20 gold to equip each character with 4 20 slot bags now, which, with the starting bag, gives you 100 slots. If we calculate that 20 gold into the gem cost with the current exchange, having a mule still gives you way more bank slots relative to gem cost vs a bank tab expansion.

Actually character slots are less convenient than bank slots. You have to then go into a character, put stuff in the bank, go back into your first character and if you have to do it again, you have to go back. Logging in and out is more annoying then just going to the bank and taking stuff out of it.

It’s more expensive because it’s more convenient.

You don’t need convenience if you just want to store items for the long term. It’s a simple matter where a player can use mules to carry all the stuff they’re storing for future use, and use the bank to store items you either use often, or swap out often. O_o

For example, I use mules to store a whole lot of ascended rings, or special crafting mats like spinal blades (which I have tons of). Stuff I know I’m not going to use any time soon, but that I store just in case I want to use them later. This leaves my bank plenty of empty space to leave things like boosters, food, or secondary equipment sets to swap out.

Either way, I’d trade a small inconvenience for basically a 50% reduction in gem cost vs capacity ratio.

They go on sale every so often and they sell like hotcakes then, indicated by the spike in the gem exchange rate. If they were cheap all the time then they can’t use a sale to drive sales near end of fiscal quarters.

That’s fine and all, but character slot expansions also go on sale now and then. I’m just saying, bank tabs probably sell a lot more of they were cheaper and thus more appealing. Right now it’s unbalanced so the appeal is less than it could be.

Tenrai Senshi.2017

Hello.

I know this may seem like a strange suggestion, but at the moment, I believe the price of bank tabs, which currently sits at 600 gems per tab, is sorely overpriced and very unattractive for potential buyers. The reason for this is because of the cost of new character slots, which sits at 800 gems.

Bank tabs offer 30 new slot spaces for us to store items in, which at 600 gems works out to 1 new slot space for every 20 gems spent. Comparatively speaking, creating a mule character would potentially offer us an extra 100 slots to store items (without purchasing the additional inventory bag slot), which means we get 1 slot per 8 gems spent. Given that comparison, and the fact that we get more than 2x the amount of extra storage slots for the amount of gems spent for creating a new character vs buying a bank tab, it makes me wonder why anyone would even bother with bank tabs anymore.

Also, if we consider that the character slot capacity sits at 64, we have a far greater capacity for creating mule characters than we do for increasing our bank capacity, which is currently limited to 11 bank tab expansion. Even if we consider the cost of 20 slot bags into the equation, which are super cheap now thanks to Halloween pails, there’s just no contest.

As the hero character (which is all of us player characters), I’m sure we’ll take the moral high ground and will protect the Sylvari rather than attack them. I see no reason why we’d just randomly start slaying innocent Sylvari, because that would make us murderers, so to speak, and that’s not the kind of character I’d want to be.

I do, however, think we will fight evil Sylvari who have fallen to corruption, alongside Faolin’s Nightmare Court. The Sylvari hate will most likely be more of an NPC thing, not something the player character will take part in.

  • Make Litany of Wrath worth a slot instead of Shelter. No one uses that because Shelter has more synergy with Valor and it has a priceless 2s block which you can’t beat.
  • Fix Shield please
  • Make Inner fire work with Zealot’s Flame please + 3s blind
  • Fix Shield please
  • Fix the teleport bug that occurs in chain with Leap of faith
  • Give us a more reliable way to gain increased attack speed or quickness as we lack soft CC, and we lack movement speed trait’s (which is fine really)
  • Fix shield please
  • Would be nice to increase the healing of Zealot’s Blade a little bit, as of now people only take it for the dmg bonus, the healing on it is just too low, even on 5 target’s.
  • a 4s swiftness boon when you activate Shield of Wrath would be nice.

Hey guys! I’m bored at work, so it’s fun post time!

The question I wanted to ask, for interests sake, is this. If you make just one change on the guardian, what would it be?

You can only list one change, because it’s meant to be your ultimate dream change. It doesn’t matter how strange or it seems, and it can be anything from a change to a trait, or to a skill, or whatever else.

For me personally, the one dream change I’d like to see on a guardian, is for Shelter to be changed to a meditation. If that ever happened, I’d probably explode from the sheer awesomeness of it (litany of wrath is crap anyway).

A simple solution is to have an option that players can toggle, to either show it, show it only on enemies and not the player, or to not show it at all. I’ve personally never seen the points of us being able to see our own aegis, because I’m not really looking at my own character to see what buffs he has. I always look above my skill bar if I need to see my boons or conditions. O_o

Increased Projectile Speed in traits

in Guardian

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

To be honest, I don’t know why anyone would trait more into Zeal just for a projectile speed increase when there are arguably much more valuable traits to go for. I’d take monk’s focus and right hand strength over a 30% projectile speed increase any day and if I’m only going for adept traits in zeal, I’m going to go for fiery wrath. It also seems like an incredibly weak buff as well, considering rangers get a similarly functioning trait that increases their projectile speed by 100% in addition to a 10% attack speed increase (granted it’s a grand master trait, but still, I doubt you’d even notice a 30% speed increase at all).

What I do think we need is for scepter projectiles to home slightly, so they have more success hitting a target at 1200 range, even if that target steps slightly to the left or right. Right now, all a player has to do is step to and fro a bit to throw Orb of Wrath projectiles completely off target, so giving them some homing capabilities would mostly absolve this and force players to actually move properly to evade. >_>

Favorite:

It’s actually between the Guardian, the Elementalist and the Thief at this point. I play those three as my mains and alt between them a lot. All of them are versatile and have fun play styles.

Least favorite:

Probably between the necromancer and engineer. They seem like really fun classes that just don’t live up to their potential and I often feel like I’d be gimping myself by playing as either. Engineers in particular I never see in groups in PvE content. I mean really, I see everything else, even rangers and necros, quite commonly in groups for dungeons and fractals, but I can’t remember the last time I saw an engineer in a dungeon or fractal group, which really makes them feel like a unanimously frowned upon class. Engineers do seem really strong in PvP though, but I reckon they need some more love for PvE.

Legendary Favorites

Tenrai Senshi.2017

My favorites and why, in no particular order:

Meteorlogicus: There’s a lot of detail and moving parts, from the planets, to the stars, to the sun, to the clouds, to the glow effect, which all gives it a very cool look and feel. It looks like a lot of thought was put into it and it manages to stand out without being eye blindingly flashy.

Bolt: I mostly like this one because of the design of the sword itself. It’s very detailed and intricate, with the dragons going up the blade, a cool hilt and a generally awesome design. Even if this had no particle effects, I’d still like it.

Rodgort: The only reason I haven’t crafted this one is because torches in general are pretty useless. Aside from that though, this is easily one of the best looking legendaries in the game. I mean, it moves and breathes fire in a way that makes it look alive. That’s pretty cool right?

Incinerator: Again, a cool design for a dagger that stands out without being too eye blindingly flashy. It’s also easily the biggest dagger model in the game, which at least gives it some hope of being seen on an Asura thief. XD

Cool, but not necessarily cool enough to go through the effort to craft:

Bifrost: I like this legendary, but mostly for the design of the staff itself. What does put me off a bit is the overuse of rainbows. It would be nice to have a darker legendary staff alternative for characters who don’t want to look like they were sent down to Tyria by the Care Bears.

Eternity/Twilight/Sunrise: I get the idea, and these legendaries certainly stand out, but aside from the particle effects – which are indeed flashy – there’s not much to the design of these legendary. It’s really just a flat blade with a sky texture popped into it. From a sword blade point of view, I much prefer Bolt’s detailed design to the greatswords’ flat design.

Flameseeker Prophecies: I actually really like this shield. I like how the pages light up and turn when you draw it. What I don’t like is that weird glow barrier around the edges of the shield, which detracts away from the detail a bit. I think the shield would look cool without that. It would also be nice if shields were useful enough to consider crafting this.

Kudzu: A cool design with lots of detail, but also flaws. The way the string shows on the bow completely breaks it’s aesthetic feel and theme, so I really thing it would be cool if they replaced the string with something else that suits Kudzu. Also, the flower footprints look like someone threw up their vegetable dinner from last night. I think it’s just the colour choice of the footfall that makes it look a bit insipid as opposed to colourful.

Downright awful legendaries:

The Minstrel: Easily the most uninspired, boring legendary in the game, with no close competitors for the bottom spot. Even as far as foci go, there are many others that look aesthetically superior to or even more flashy than the Minstrel, so I really don’t see a point to crafting it. It would be cool if they changed the model to create a humanoid or angelic figure built into the harp, and when you draw it, its hands move and pull the strings, causing them to light up and play musical notes.

The Dreamer: Okay, so this one is not exactly “aweful” from a design perspective (it’s very detailed and all), but my main issue with it is that the only class I’d dream of using a short bow on (no pun intended) is the thief, and having a bow that shoots rainbow ponies on a thief with a dark theme just seems meh.

Frostfang: Compared to Rodfort, which really moves and looks alive, Frostfang seems rather dull and lifeless. Just the lower jaw moves with a bit of ice breath coming out the mouth, but aside from that, it really doesn’t feel legendary at all from an aesthetic design point of view.

  • I don’t miss out on laurels if I miss a day. As a casual player with an erratic schedule I often miss days, or don’t have time to do the daily on top of what I actually want to do. Before that meant 1 less laurel, now it’s ‘saved’ for me and it just takes me a day longer to get to it.

This aspect actually hasn’t changed. If you missed a day before, you didn’t get the laurel for that day. If you miss a day now, you still don’t get a laurel for that day. Either way you still miss out on a laurel for the day you missed. O_o

Because people weren’t satisfied with it. That is to say, for many, including me, this is an improvement. Why shouldn’t they work on something that improves the game for a percentage of people. I’m not the only one who feels happy and satisified with the changes.

And “most of the things” promised to us were delivered. There are a few exceptions, but they remain that. Exceptions.

I read the forums quite often and I have to say, I’ve never seen a post about people not being satisfied with the dailies or asking for it to change, especially in its most recent incarnation. That’s not to say that kind of posts has never existed but it more than likely wasn’t an important enough issue for it to be bought up often, if ever at all. I just did a search now even, and I came up negative. I did, however, find complaints about the current system as it is now after the patch.

If there are any such posts that I have somehow overlooked regarding the previous incarnation of the daily achievement system, please could you refer me to them so I can read them and get some more insight into what people might have had an issue with beforehand.

Also, I think your obscuring facts in your defense. There are a lot of promised features that have not been introduced. They are certainly not a minority because in reality, there have actually been very few developments form a gameplay perspective in GW2 when it comes to permanent, new gameplay content. I see regular post themes pop up all the time that are never addressed, or ongoing issues that have never been resolved.

For you to blindly defend everything ANet ever does, without being objective, or without considering the negative backlash or the feelings of other players, isn’t actually doing any favors to GW2 or to ANet. Feedback is needed, whether it’s good or bad, for this game to become better and we players give it because we WANT the game to become better, not because we’re just trying to be kitten (yes, there are some kitten but a lot of us just want a great game). A lot of us are also feeling frustrated because it always feels like our feedback is ignored, while promises that have existed for over a year remain unfulfilled. If you need evidence regarding this matter, simply look through the forums and observe the countless posts regarding lack of communication, the lack of transparency on ANets part, or the various complains about a lack of new meaningful gameplay content.

In the end, I’m not saying whether these changes to the daily system are good or bad. I have yet to actually say anything negative about the system itself, if you would have noticed. What I am saying, however, is that I do think ANet needs to rethink their priorities, and start addressing the more urgent issues that have been the topics of discussion for years now. If you promise precursor crafting by the end of 2013, for example (which ANet did) and still have yet to deliver it by the end of 2014, then there’s clearly an issue.

I probably could refer you to them if the search engine worked, but it doesn’t. So I can’t. However, other people have brought it up. Either you believe me or you don’t.

There were people tired of chasing all those points and some of them burned out and left. People have posted about it, whether you want to believe it or not.

That’s why I didn’t use the search engine and searched for the topics on Google. As for believing you, in a way you’ve actually supported my point regarding a lack of communication and transparency on ANet’s part.

What I don’t understand in all this, is that dailies have kinda gone back to what they used to be before the last iteration, where the daily achievements were more focused and required you to do a very specific task in a very specific location.

The reason ANet changed the dailies to be less focused and more generalized, was so that players could play what they wanted, where they wanted and still get daily rewards. It seems bizarre to me that we’ve now gone back to a similar system to what we had before (barring the login rewards) with more strict requirements on dailies and less variety.

Why do we go back and fourth with features no-one has actually mentioned having issue with, but we never fix age old bugs, or introduce new gameplay features which people are practically begging for all the time?

Except that players are getting more than they bargained for this way, because they don’t have to do anything at all, and they get everything but the achievement points.

And people did complain about feeling like they had to do all the dailies every day to keep up with achievement points. For some, it ruined the game for them, but they still didn’t stop.

I used to do far more than the five dailies every day…this is a lot better for me. I do less and get more.

It doesn’t matter if we’re getting more or less than we bargained for, that’s not the point. The point is that this is development time and resources being poured into systems that were never bad or broken to begin with, and that people were satisfied with already.

Why can’t those resources rather go into fixing bugs that have existed for months or years, or introducing craftable precursors, or introducing new skills or traits or weapons for classes, or many of the other things that were promised to us ages ago, but most of which have yet to be delivered upon?

That’s what really irks me here.

[SUGGESTION] Clothing Tonics into Outfits?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

The main issue with this suggestion is that some clothing items were individual pieces and not entire outfit sets. They’d have to introduce a lot of new outfits in order to account for all the previously possible town clothes combinations, and that’s mostly due to the inherent flaw of outfits being one piece sets, as opposed to being mix and matchable.

If you ask me, town clothes should have simply been changed to armor pieces and added to your wardrobe.

What excites you about the future of GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

Nothing excites me to be honest, but that’s mostly because there’s not much clarity on what’s going to be added in future, and even when we do get insight into possible future features, in many cases they are never followed through (like precursor crafting, as an example).

If living story is all we’re going to get from here on out, I’m not very excited at all, not because the living story is bad, but rather, because we need other, permanent end game content to keep us busy between LS episodes, otherwise it gets very dull, very fast. In particular, I’d like to see more development on the WvWvW side of things. I think it has so much potential, and yet it’s been largely ignored since the game’s launch.

Add to that the fact that ANet only seems to be interested in updating game features that actually weren’t broken in the first place (like daily achievement revisions or changes to how traits are earned), and I’d say in some ways I’m more afraid of what’s coming than excited about it.

Greatswords

Tenrai Senshi.2017

I want the 1H-sword added to ele. We do need a more melee focused weapon (I don’t count daggers because they are more mid-ranged than pure melee), but I don’t think new weapon sets added should interfere with the roles of our summoned weapons, otherwise there would be no point to the summoned weapons anymore. It would also confuse people in PvP, because if you see an ele running around with volcanus, for example, you’d have no idea whether they’re using a normal greatsword or the fiery greatsword elite, which would make preparing for their attacks more difficult.

Also, bolt would be epic on an ele with that lighting. XD

[Suggestion] 5 AP and 1 Laurel on login

Tenrai Senshi.2017

Even the laziest part of my mind completely disagrees with this suggestion.

Achievement points are meant to be earned, whether the task by which you earn them is menial or difficult, and usually the amount you earn reflects the difficulty of the task. To give someone 5 ap’s just for logging in (which takes no effort at all) completely defeats the entire point of achievement points to begin with.

Retaliation - once per sec

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

Retaliation is a good counter for skills that hit multiple times in quick succession. If you give it an internal cooldown, then that benefit is completely lost. I like the idea that we have to pay attention during battles and use skills that are suitable for each situation, while weighting up the pros and cons (e.g. single hit, high damage attacks are better against retaliation than rapid, low damage hits, while for confusion, attacks with a longer channel time are superior to successive single skill uses, etc).

If you give it an internal cooldown, then people won’t even think of retaliation anymore. They’ll just spam whatever skills they like without caring about the consequences and PvP battles just become more mindless. It completely diminishes counter-play and combat awareness, and promotes thoughtless skill spamming.

I think the main problem is the breach, when you have to kill 5 bosses in a certain amount of time.
I don’t really care what you use to defend forts, but for the legendaries, staff has no place.

I’m sure most guardians would or should be smart enough to switch weapons for the breach.

Guardian staff actually does decent damage, especially if you account for its massive aoe and ability to consistently hit multiple targets.

Unless enemy mobs are standing right on top of each other, against large mobs you’ll probably find you’d have more DPS with a staff than any other guard weapon.

Obviously when mobs are stacked or you’re fighting single targets, you’d be inclined to switch to something more suitable. Still, considering how mobile mordrem are and how they tend to spread out in all directions with their charge attacks, I highly doubt you’ll see many situations where mordrem are all stacking in one place for your convenience.

As always, it’s a case of using what’s suitable for the situation, and swapping regularly. O_o

The other side to this conversation is everyone wants more content, more content, more content, let’s get more stuff, but we’re willing to take the extra time to decorate an entire city for what is one month.

Yeah, I get it. It would be great if the whole city was decorated. But it doesn’t affect my game one whit.

Where as the new dailies are quite nice for me.

People want more content of course, but my issue is more with the quality than the quantity. I want the content to be memorable (like the first Halloween event), so when it feels like ANet isn’t really putting as much effort into it as they could, I’ll naturally feel disappointed. It doesn’t help that most of the content in this year’s Wintersday is just recycled from last year and the year before that, which adds to its underwhelming feel for me.

As I said, maybe my expectations were just too high, but I think it’s better to have high expectations from a company than low expectations. I’m afraid I’m being driven more towards the latter lately and honestly, I don’t think that’s a good sign.

Holidays were always supposed to be mostly recycled as they were in Guild Wars 1, and they are in almost every MMO. There’s a reason for it. The more time you work on a holiday even to use 1 month a year, the less time you have for content.

I do think your expectations were too high, since we were never led to believe that the holidays would change much. Anet said as much early on.

Yes, I understand that, but because it’s recycled I did expect a bit more effort into the aesthetic side of things. ANet did announce that Wintersday would be in DR this year so I did expect DR to have that festive vibe about it. It just didn’t give me that vibe.

Strange. I also have a life of my own, and limited time to do things, and yet I still have to work and I still have yo satisfy clients’ needs. If I can’t then they go elsewhere, where there’s superior service. That’s how business works. That’s how it goes for everyone. ANet are not special in that regard.

As for the limited time excuse, considering most of the Wintersday content is recycled, it should have given them MORE time to work on the aesthetic side of things, which, really, was all they had to work on for the most part.

tbh this is what i expected i mean it is a really big city/zone
and what they did do looked really nice

not to mention then new quest type thing with the orphans

I honestly think the central area where the orrery is would have been a better location for the Wintersday festival decorations and events if they were only going to do it in one section of the city. They could have replaced the moving planets with Wintersday decorations and replaced the trees and hedges with Christmas trees and ice sculptures. Then have snow coming from the ceiling, and miniature towns and such along the garden paths, with snow, and it would have looked so epic.

It would also be a bit more explorable and intricate than the crown pavilion, which has a huge hole in it that takes up a lot of the surface area and limits you to roaming what is ultimately a relatively small outer rim.

What’s worse is part of it is sectioned off only for those who have a pass.

I had a new player who prompted for a party invite from a friend and I when we were just relaxing in Queensdale with some of our level 80 characters ( sometimes we just like to chill or take some time to look at the scenery and see how the game world is designed without being distracted by combat).

He asked if we could help him with map exploration and I said that I was sorry, but we were just relaxing and chatting for now (we didn’t really feel up to doing anything intensive at the time, but we weren’t adverse to him chatting with us if he wanted). He called us boring after he realized that we didn’t intend to run around after him, so I said that we weren’t put there solely to entertain him. Well, suffice to say, his reaction was less than pleasant. He started verbally assaulting me after I kicked him from the party given his attitude, but I didn’t get riled up or return his behavior in kind. It was fairly amusing how he reacted so excessively to what was really a very minor issue, but I simply blocked him and that was the end of the story.

In the end, these kinds of players are few and far between and with a new player like that especially, I can’t see them lasting long in the game if their attitude towards others is already that volatile. They’ll end up becoming bitter and blaming others every time something goes wrong and they’ll eventually rage quit, probably going on about how bad the game is and all that, simply because they lacked the social skills to make it an enjoyable experience with others. That’s fine though, because we don’t need people like that polluting our player base and I certainly won’t be missing them.

Why we can`t use DPS meter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tenrai Senshi.2017

Tenrai Senshi.2017

I think a personal dps meter for the sake of build testing would be cool. But that’s all it should be, personal. There’s no way a dps meter should ever be used in group content because it would never be a true, accurate depiction of how well someone performs in a group.

Take scepter eles for an example. In terms of personal dps, I’m sure they’ll always fall below classes like thieves, warriors, or even guardians because scepter skills themselves don’t really deal great amounts of damage. However, because of their ability to easily stack tons of might and endless fury for their party (as well as summoning ice bows, etc), a scepter ele would probably increase the overall group dps more than some other classes in a way that a dps meter would not be able to reflect.

Dps meters simply cannot account for all the different variables and certainly cannot account for player competency. It’s fine if people record their own performance in a dungeon and then compare it with friends if they choose to, but it should not be publicly visible otherwise it will open an ugly can of worms. Also, if you’re going to have a personal dps meter, might as well have other meters as well, like a healing meter so players who want to play support or tank builds in PvP can also test how good their recovery is.

Honestly, I prefer that there’s no living story update during Wintersday. It gives us time to do Wintersday events at our leisure without feeling pressured to do living story events at the same time.

Aside from that though, I do hope there will be new stuff to do and new items to acquire this Wintersday to make up for the gap. I am excited that it will take place in DR this time (I think Halloween should have been there as well, because it would have looked epic), so maybe that means it will feel fresh this year.

Freedom of speech. I find YOUR post offensive in that you would censor people so should I have a hissy fit and demand YOU be censored? Censorship is a slippery slope, one mans vulgarity is another mans art and no one person gets to decide for others. Read 1984 by George Orwell.

Actually, ANet does get to decide what is acceptable within the confines of their terms and agreements policies and if they stipulate that a specific kind of behavior is not warranted and thus ban-able, and you agreed to those terms upon creating an account for the game, then you are subject to those parameters.

Hate speech and verbal abuse fall under “unacceptable behavior” as far as those policies are concerned so by rights, ANet can and should act on that. It has nothing to do with our personal beliefs or preferences.
