Hey guys.
I’ll admit, my topic title sucks, because I wasn’t really sure what you’d call the system I have in mind, so hopefully my explanation will sound better.
I had this idea for guilds where ANet could introduce a new UI under the guild menu, which gives players access to a list of guilds that currently exist in the game, with filter options to search by name, amount of members, home worlds, nationality/language and guild themes or focuses (eg, roleplaying guilds, dungeon guilds, wvw guilds, etc). Likewise, for the guilds themselves, introduce a new section under the guild menu where the guild leader can tick checkboxes that pertain to what kind of content they focus on (for example, a roleplaying guild would tick the checkbox for roleplaying, whereas a multi-role guild could tick multiple checkboxes that pertain to what they do, like guild missions, dungeons, daily events, wvw, etc).
The idea behind this system is to give players an alternative way to search for guilds that they might be interested in joining without having to rely on asking for guilds on the map chat, or waiting for a guild message that mentions the kinds of content they are interested in. Any guild interested in recruiting players could also put their recruitment message up, which would then show up on the guild list under their guild for other players to find. This would circumvent them having to rely solely on spamming the map chat with recruitment messages in the hopes of acquiring more members and would act as a passive means of recruitment.
You could even give guilds the options of having different levels of recruitment active. The three levels you could implement are:
1) "auto-join’, which means a player can join your guild immediately without needing approval just by clicking a join button on the guild list.
2) “approval required”, which would then send a message to guild officers/leaders with the power to recruit members, which they’d then either approve or reject.
3) “invitation only”, which prevents players from being able to join at all, unless invited directly (good for guilds who don’t want to recruit all the time but who do want to add friends now and then).
Anyway, it’s just an idea, but I do think it would streamline guild recruitment quite a bit, both for players looking to join and for guilds trying to recruit.
(edited by Tenrai Senshi.2017)
I’d support this idea as a nice memento to a player who loved the game. I hope the devs respond in some way.
I think it would be interesting if we could see who was ignoring us.
I’ve honestly encountered very few racially or sexually hateful comments in my time playing GW2, relatively speaking, however I won’t say it doesn’t occur just because I don’t witness it.
Having said that, responding in kind would make you no better than them, and would also make you liable for a ban. The best solution is to simply block the offenders and report them, and then put them out of your mind. There’s no point in mud slinging with those kinds of people. After all, why dirty yourself just to throw mud at someone who is already swimming in it?
I think sanctuary is fine. I use it in PvP to hold points against multiple foes until help arrives or to res someone safely.
I think the only thing they should change is to make the bubble bigger, and to give the player stability while inside the bubble. I’ve had a few situations where a hammer warrior has knocked me out of the bubble, thus rendering the skill moot. The stability can pulse for 1 second, each second you’re in the bubble to make sure it can’t be stripped easily.
But if they could just fix the problem with the 3rd auto-attack I would be fine. The sword fill its role of sustain between GS burst just fine. Its not a complete useless weapon.
To be honest, I don’t see how or why the sword would fill a role of sustain between greatsword bursts, when sword auto and greatsword auto basically do the same damage (greatsword does 1035 based damage with a full chain in 2.5 seconds, sword does 1042 base damage with a full chain in 2.5 seconds). In fact, greatsword auto could be considered superior thanks to better cleaving, less mechanical issues and might on the third attack.
In a PvE situation where you want to maximize damage, it would actually make more sense to use a mace or even hammer alt.
(edited by Tenrai Senshi.2017)
9/10 I agree with most of this.
For zealots defense to be good it would probably be enough if it would actually hit anything on the range that is displayed in the tooltip. When you use zealots defense on 600 range atm you hit half of the projectiles at best. On moving targets it’s even worse.
Yeah, simply having decent tracking or even some homing would already improve it a lot. But at it is right now, Zealots Defense can’t even hit an immobile target with all the projectiles at 600 range. XD
How to improve the Sword:
The fixes are quite simple really.
1: For the auto attack, all you really need to do is change sword wave so that it no longer counts as a projectile attack, and improve its cleaving capabilities.
2: For Zealots Defense, there are a few possible fixes. Changing the projectile destruction effect to a block effect for both melee and projectile attacks on its own would already add enough utility and synergy with on block traits to significantly improve the usefulness of ZD as a whole. If Anet doesn’t want to go that far, then at the very least increasing its damage, allowing the projectiles to pierce targets, or even just giving them a slight homing effect would all help make this skill a bit less mediocre than it currently is.
Overall, I just think the sword is being held back from being a great weapon by a few key design flaw issues, ones that are so obvious I’m surprised ANet hasn’t patched them already.
Hey guys.
I’ve posted before on changes for weapon skills that I thought the guardian could use, but this time I decided to focus purely on the sword, to highlight some of its issues in more detail as opposed to just mentioning it in passing in a longer thread.
1: Auto attack:
Now on paper, the Guardian’s sword auto attack actually looks decent, especially with its relatively large damage numbers. However that’s all it really does, damage. Unlike the sword autos for some other classes that remove boons, or apply bleeds, cripples or vulnerability, the guardian’s auto relies solely on its damage to remain competitive.
When you compare it to the thief’s sword auto, which does almost the same amount of damage, but also applies conditions on the third attack and cleaves better, suddenly that damage doesn’t seem as impressive anymore. Hell, even compared to the guardian’s greatsword auto, the total damage numbers are almost the same, yet the greatsword has the added benefit of applying might on the third strike, as well as having superior cleaving capabilities.
But there are other mechanical issues with the guardian’s auto attack that hinder it even more, and that is the third attack in the auto chain, Sword Wave. Because it counts as a projectile, it often has trouble hitting targets that normal melee attacks have no trouble with, even at point blank range. It also almost completely lacks any cleaving capabilities, unless you hit targets that are directly on top of or behind each other. Furthermore, it can be blocked or reflected by enemies with projectile blocks or reflects, causing the guardian to miss or even damage himself in situations where every other melee attack would succeed. The worst part in all this is that if Sword Wave does fail to hit the enemy, even if the attack is reflected or blocked, the guardian will continue to repeat it multiple times in an attempt to land a hit, thus further lowering the player’s dps and potentially causing multiple cases of damage reflection in a row.
To me, it’s completely silly to punish a guardians as though they were using a ranged projectile even though they are using a melee attack. It leads to a lot of unnecessary frustration and hinders the sword greatly as a melee weapon.
Changes to Zealot’s Defence:
Zealots defense is just a bad skill, so bad in fact, that I reckon most guardians who are experienced with the sword probably rarely use ZD, if ever. The main reason is because its damage relative to its cooldown and cast time is fairly low, to the extent that interrupting your auto attack to cast it will likely not even improve your dps at all and in some cases, might even decrease it. It also lacks the ability to cleave, so in cases where you’re fighting multiple opponents, using Zealot’s Defense would actually lower your dps by a significant margin.
It also doesn’t offer enough utility to make up for the low damage. Although it destroys ranged projectiles, that effect pales in comparison to similarly functioning skills like pistol whip, which cleaves, stuns and evades, or Blurred Frenzy, which cleaves and grants evade as well (evading melee attacks AND projectiles —-———> just destroying projectiles). What makes Zealots defense even worse is that despite offering inferior utility and damage to the above mentioned skills, it actually has a longer cooldown as well. I just really don’t know what kind of thought went into this design.
Lastly, even though the skill fires ranged projectiles, because of their lack of homing and their poor tracking capabilities, you’ll often find you’ll miss targets that are even moving at a snail’s pace at range. It doesn’t even count as a projectile finisher and has all the downsides of ranged attacks – like being susceptible to projectiles reflects or blocks – while maintaining very few of the perks (for example, because the projectiles trail along the ground, if you try fire it over a gap, instead of flying to hit the target, the projectiles fall into the gap and disappear).
But what about flashing blade? O_o
Flashing blade is awesome. I reckon its the only skill on the sword they got right, though it could stand to be a leap finisher. XD
Lack of burst capabilities:
Thanks in large part to the poor damage of Zealots defense, the sword is completely devoid of any burst damage potential. While its sustained damage with the auto attack is still good (mechanical issues aside), the lack of burst means that the sword’s overall dps is actually quite low. How low? Well, low enough that even the Guardian’s scepter out-damages it against single targets by quite a fair margin, which is actually quite sad considering you’re comparing a ranged weapon with a melee weapon.

Why arent you running zerking in PVE?
Who said I’m not running zerker gear? O_o
This whole thread is basically A.) you arguing that these filters do not guarantee faster and better runs, and B.) others arguing that a guarantee isn’t necessary, and probable/very probable were good enough. Meanwhile, pretty much all evidence presented on both sides regarding total time spent has been completely anecdotal (I will argue why it may be irrelevant later) and does little to sway one side to the other.
Actually, this is not entirely accurate. The purpose of my original post was simply me stating my observations on certain LFG messages or occurrences in game and giving my thoughts on them, for the sake of interests and discussion. I was also hoping others would give their thoughts or perhaps reference their own observations. It’s all in good humor and I’m not looking down on anyone or anything, nor do I think my observations are necessarily 100% correct in all cases.
My only real argument was when someone stated that one of my observations were false just because their experiences were different. You can’t put a right or wrong to personal experience, but you can observe and relate your experiences to others, and then subsequently learn about theirs.
3)This is false. A lot of times i make these sorts of posts and people do join up with the right classes.
If they don’t – you kick and move on.Just because in your experience, something didn’t happen, that doesn’t mean it is false. I’m basing what I said on my observations, and I’ve often seen groups looking for specific classes filled with completely different classes to the ones they are looking for. That much is certainly true and I’m sure you’d also notice similar cases yourself if you just took a look through the LFG system.
So why not just kick them? How is it a problem?
I LFG for a Guardian. A mesmer joins. I kick him – no problem.
I don’t know. I never form parties that ask for specific numbers of specific classes. I’m only referencing my observations, that’s all. People create a LFG with specific party class requirements, and then different classes fill it anyway. They don’t appear to kick those members so it just makes me question why they put up the requirements in the first place. O_o
I’m not saying it’s a problem or anything. I think some people have misread the purpose of my original post. Lol.

I am going to make a 25k+ AP party tomorrow and see what happens.
Once at Claw of Jormag event I advertised a 23k+ AP group and someone joined, so its definetly possible.
Tell us how the run goes and if it’s any better than average, or how long it takes to make the party, etc (assuming you manage to get a full party at all). It would be interesting to see if all those AP’s actually make any considerable difference.
Though I must say that on occasion I’ve had people with 20k+ AP’s in fractals who die constantly and who were outplayed by other party members with less than 4k AP’s.
(edited by Tenrai Senshi.2017)
The reason you see these people obsessed with the best possible party they can make is that they want to get the dungeon done as fast as possible and maximize their profit. To counter one of your points about how it might take longer to find the ideal party: perhaps they expect the party to be doing more than one path?
If the party had any intention to do more than one path, then surely they would advertise such, wouldn’t they? When someone puts “CoF P1, Zerker Gear only, 5000AP+” (example), it gives no impression that they intend to do anything other than CoF P1. Considering how short CoF P1 and some other dungeon paths are, it just doesn’t make sense to wait so long over specific party requirements when you’d probably save time just going with a normal party and starting the dungeon immediately.
I could see you saving time on a longer run or on multiple runs with the same party, but for single path runs and for shorter dungeon paths, I reckon you lose more time waiting than you make up for with the marginally faster run.
Whilst a lot of these seem silly to me I think it’s entirely up to each person to decide what to put in their group listings. If they spend longer finding a group than doing the dungeon that’s their choice.
And similarly if you don’t see a group you like you can make your own, and put anything you want in the description.
I have a friend who always puts something blatantly absurd in their listings. Like “Pink dye only pls, gear check” or “LF monk”. And funny enough they have had people change their dyes to join.
I agree with you completely, and usually I make my own groups anyway. I was just listing it more for the interests of a discussion as opposed to anything else and I’m not looking down on anyone or how they play. I’ve just seen some strange things out there that confuse or amuse me sometimes. Lol.
“LFP, 2 Warriors, 1 Mesmer, 1 Guard only!” (example)
This specific? That’s weird, never saw that. I can understand someone asking for 1 profession like a guardian or mesmer in Arah, SE or Fractal. Or a thief in fractal, CM or Arah. If your party lack a specific profession that can make your dungeon way easier. But to specific a complete group?? Never saw that, don’t really get it either.
Yeah, strangely enough, I do see LFG messages that are this specific. Granted, it’s not that often but it does happen. I can also understand requesting a specific class now and then and I’ll often swap classes myself during certain fractals (like using thief in Dredge fractal, etc), but it really baffles me when people search for such specific groups from the offset and actually list each class they want.
As someone who often plays with PUG groups in dungeons and fractals, it was inevitable that I’d notice many of the strange and funny LFG messages that people put out in the hopes of finding that “ideal” party in an effort to make their dungeon/fractal run as smooth or as fast as possible.
I thought I’d share some examples of these examples, as well as my thoughts on them.
“Fractal LvL X: Swamp ready!”
Now, I understand why most players doing regular fractal runs would want to get swamp first. It’s fast and easy for an experienced group and so it can cut your fractal run time down by a reasonable amount if you’re lucky enough to get it.
What I don’t understand is why people often won’t join a fractal or start one unless they get swamp first. I’ve even had people join a party where I haven’t specified that we’d be doing swamp, only to then ask if swamp was ready and then subsequently leave when I say “no”, thus wasting their own and the rest of our party’s time (the ironic part was that we still got swamp when we went in anyway). In other cases, it isn’t uncommon to see a party enter and quit fractals multiple times, over and over, until they get swamp.
To me, this is counter productive, because often a player might spend more time looking for the swamp, or looking for a group that has it ready, than they would have spent simply joining another group instantly and completing another fractal.
“LFG Zerker only pls! Gear Check.”
It’s odd enough that players would go so far as to gear check their fellow party members just to make sure they get their ideal party formation. But, this message is even more strange and funny when you see it while looking for a group for an easy and fast dungeon route, like CoF P1.
In many cases, you actually lose more time waiting for the ideal zerker party than you save with the extra dps, especially for shorter dungeon paths.
“LFP, 2 Warriors, 1 Mesmer, 1 Guard only!” (example)
This is by far the most hilarious kind of LFG message. Almost every time I see this kind of message where people demand X number of X kind of class, the people I see join that party never meet the requirements anyway.
Aside from that, the sheer amount of time people like this spend waiting for their ideal group formation often far exceeds the gain. I’ve had situations where I’ve gone onto LFG to join a fractal, seen a group ad like the one mentioned above, joined a completely different group that doesn’t have such stringent requirements, and have completed the first fractal already, all the while their group still hasn’t filled yet.
“LFG, 5000AP + only”
In this last case, I can only question why players fall under the belief that somehow, someone’s AP count is an accurate representation of their skill level. I actually have a guildy who only started doing fractals when they had around 8000 AP. They hadn’t done it sooner because they were a bit anxious about them, so they put them off for quite a long time. On the other hand, I’ve also played with people who have less than 3000 AP’s, who have already done a lot of fractal runs, because they start them the moment they hit level 80 and do them daily.
So, not only are AP’s in no way a representation of player skill (mostly because acquiring AP’s in itself often does not require any skill), but they also in no way indicate whether a player has even played a particular kind of content at all, nor hint at how often they play it if they do. Once again this is a case where players are just wasting their own time by trying to put unnecessary and often impractical restrictions on party requirements in LFG.
My biggest issue with hammer auto is the light field. When I play ele in fractals or dungeons and there’s a hammer guard, their constant light field auto spam often overwrites my fire field blasting rotation, which ends up depriving our party of a reasonable amount of dps.
I’d prefer if the field was moved to another skill and the auto was sped up to compensate.
If it’s about group content and giving might to allies, you’d be much better off with an elementalist. Not only can they give more stacks of might over a longer duration by blasting fire fields, but with traits they can also give their entire party endless fury as well.
During the flame and frost living story event, I missed out on the molten jetpack back piece. I can’t count how many times I ran that dungeon, but no matter how many times I did it, I was never lucky enough to get a drop.
Now it sells for a few hundred gold on the TP and I’m kinda irked. X__x
I do think if you’re going to make content or introduce items with timed availability, you should not create a situation where there is such a heavy reliance on RNG as a means to acquire them. I’d rather do achievements, treasure hunts or farm things like tokens for timed content, as opposed to just hoping and praying for the best, only to be disappointed time and time again.
I don’t mind as much if RNG is involved with permanent content, because at least it gives us time, but there are some areas in the game where drop rates are still obscenely low, to the point of being ridiculous (fractal weapons and precursors come to mind). I’ve done hundreds of fractal runs and still only gotten 3 weapon skins, none of which were the ones I actually hoped for. Meanwhile, there sure isn’t a shortage of ascended rings that have done a good job of hogging a good portion of my bank, which is just another blatant reminder of how unbalanced drops are. You get too much of the things you don’t need and not enough of what you want. I swear I wish I could melt down all those rings and forge a fractal sword with them. >_<
(edited by Tenrai Senshi.2017)
You can do all paths of hotw in <45 min with an okay team. I’m sure it’s even faster with a great group. It’s sad that people hate p2 and p3 so much, because it makes finding this decent group that much harder. I like p2 more than p1.
I googled looking for tips on how to complete this achievement beyond the obviousand found solid gold in a guide that recommended doing every path of a dungeon every day, along with an entire pvp reward tier. Apparently it takes only a week to complete one dungeon collection if you start from zero! Hahahaaaa right.
Lol. How many people have the time to do every single path of every dungeon, every day, much less a PvP reward tier on top of it? XD
(I don’t even know if it’s possible to do a complete PvP reward tier in a day, but I could be wrong).
Wow…
I actually like the idea of collections. I don’t even mind if they take long. The issue is that in most cases, the rewards for completing a collection are far too insignificant to bother going out of our way to get them.
Judging by how all collections work, it is by design that they have such low AP rewards. Don’t forget that you are rewarded with gold/drops/exp when you are working towards the Dungeon Collections but you get next to nothing for Jumping Puzzles.
I could make the gold needed to get the end reward of a collection in an hour just farming, so why should I go out of my way, spending possibly hundreds of hours doing it elsewhere?
It’s easier to get achievements elsewhere, and it’s easier to get most of the rewards themselves elsewhere, so why would anyone go out of their way to complete a collection in that case? You don’t even get titles for most of them. The only collections worth going out of our way for, in my opinion, are the ones with unique rewards like the chest in your home instance, or the karmic converter, because those cannot be acquired by any other means.
(edited by Tenrai Senshi.2017)
I think the main issue here is that the rewards don’t feel balanced relative to the work involved. For one dungeon collection completion, you’d need to spend hundreds of hours acquiring it just for a measly 3 AP’s and in most cases, a useless trinket (useless if you consider how much easier it is to get superior, ascended trinkets).
Meanwhile, other achievements in the game such as JP achievements, etc, can take as little as five minutes for 10AP’s. It just doesn’t make much sense.

I personally play a one-handed medi guard in PvE and find them to be very fun and effective. Sure, I may not be spamming boons all over the place, but I have great sulf-sustain and good damage. I still use consecrations like wall of reflect where needed (harpy fractal as an example), but I don’t use shouts at all and actually find them to be particularly overrated in PvE.
I believe that any person should be able to play any class in any manner they choose, so long as they play it well enough in group content so as to not hinder the rest of the group. I think if you force players to play a specific way that they’re not comfortable with just because you perceive that to be their allotted role, it’s more likely to decrease their effectiveness as opposed to increasing it.
I’m sure somewhere along the line, this topic has been bought up at some point, perhaps more during the earlier days of GW2, but I thought I’d bring it up again anyway.
One thing I really miss in this game is the ability to see light sources from other players where they’re carrying gear that can generate light. I can be looking straight at a character with a torch in hand in a dark JP area, and yet, the area around them is still pitch black. Likewise, I carry a few items that generate light myself (mad king’s memoires, torches, incinerator, etc), and I’m a bit dismayed that no-one else can see the lighting effects they generate, which, in my opinion, is part of their aesthetic appeal.
But beyond just aesthetics, being able to see light emitted from other players would add so much to the atmosphere in the game. I know it could cause performance issues, but if we have the option to turn it on or off, or the ability to limit how many players whose light sources we can see (kinda like how we can already limit how many players we can see in detail), I think that would absolve any potential issues.
I do enjoy JP’s but I agree that the rewards need to be improved relative to the difficulty of the JP itself. They are most rewarding when completed the first time, when you get that easy 10ap, but after that, not so much.
As for parking alts at the end problem, that could be solved relatively easily. Just make it that the chest only appears at the end of the JP if the player first starts at the starting point. Or have an interactive object at the start of the JP that “activates” it and makes the reward chest generate.
I personally hope they don’t add new legendaries, unless it’s for new weapon classes that get introduced. I believe one per weapon class is good (even though greatsword has more than one, but meh).
What I would like to see is the option to customize our legendaries to some degree to suit our character’s look or theme. For example, being able to change incinerator’s flame to a blue flame, or a wind blade, or even black flames, etc. Or changing Sunrise’s or Twilight’s sky reflections in the sword to other sky types related to day or night settings respectively, etc Being able to customize footfalls or auras (as well as turning them on or off) would be cool as well.
At least then even if two people have the same legendaries, they can still look different and you wouldn’t have to craft an entirely new legendary just to get a different look.

OP, avoiding all the conflict (for once), I really do hope you get your Dusk back. Everyone makes mistakes. This is a game.
People don’t need to be penalized for their mistakes.
Ye, people shouldn’t get punished for their mistakes! Pulling triggers on accident is also a mistake, guess they shouldn’t be punished. People transfer peoples pension funds to their own bank account on accident, shouldn’t be punished.
You need to draw the line somewhere otherwise the world would become even more chaotic.
You’re comparing a situation where someone has harmed others, to a situation where they have not.
The OP hasn’t shot anyone or harmed anyone, therefor he shouldn’t be punished. Heaven forbid you should ever break your leg falling, only to get to the emergency room for treatment where the doctor says “sorry, I won’t operate on you because it’s your fault you fell and broke your leg.” There’s a difference between punishing someone for harming others, and punishing someone in a situation where they haven’t harmed anyone or have, conversely, accidentally harmed themselves. O_o
Your “one size fits all” approach is not only shallow, but also illogical. You have to evaluate and respond to each situation based on its own merits.
He harmed the market of precursors which affect all of us! 1 less precursor on the TP means higher prices for us, so yes! He has harmed us.
Lol. I’m just going to act under the assumption that you’re fully aware of how sensationalist and unreasonable your argument sounds and that you’re just trolling for a reaction now.
It is friday, I am stuck at uni and insanely bored!
Don’t worry, so am I (bored). There’s a reason I’m here debating on a thread that would probably be healthier to avoid. XD

Some of ya’ll just don’t get it. People who think he shouldn’t get it back don’t say so because they’re cruel or want him to suffer. There was once a thing called “responsibility.” I know, this is a freakin’ video game. But looking at the facts the Forging of his Dusk is entirely, 100% his fault. He got it and wasn’t careful and in the clicking frenzy we all usually do when Forging things he didn’t notice he put it in. It’s not like he got it and then the game client crashed and he logged back in and it was gone. He wasn’t paying attention. Honestly, I don’t think it should be refunded either. It’s nice if it is, I’m glad for you, but in principle, you kittened up and it’s your fault, not Anet’s.
No, we do get it. We do know it’s his fault and that he messed up and made a mistake. However, that still doesn’t mean we don’t want him to get a refund. I as a human being find joy in the joy of others, I congratulate them when they get a precursor and I feel happy for them when they get a legendary. I don’t begrudge them of it just because they got something I didn’t, or because I feel left out. Likewise, I feel bummed when others feel down. I don’t want them to feel down just like I myself don’t enjoy feeling down. It’s a game so I want to enjoy myself and I want others to enjoy themselves.
I don’t see why we should destroy someone’s enjoyment over a mistake. It is just a game and the items in it are digital. ANet loses nothing over giving him his precursor back. We as players lose nothing. The only thing that happens is that someone gains happiness and enjoyment. Why the hell would I or anyone else want to deny someone their happiness and enjoyment, I honestly cannot fathom, especially when that happiness is at no cost to anyone else. I could understand being against it if it was a huge inconvenience to other players, but it is not. O_o
I just really don’t get your mentality. Lol. He made the mistake, I’m sure he’s learned from it and will not be inclined to make it again. Let him have his dusk back and let him enjoy it, and for heaven’s sake, let’s try to feel enthusiastic for some positive outcomes for a change instead of always expecting or hoping for negative outcomes.

Goodluck. I know from personal experience that GW2 Customer Support is one of the best in this industry. They are super awesome. I really hope they can help you!
@fellyn: They can confirm it. Everything is in their knowledge. They can see if you forged, sold, destroyed, or got anything in the game. The game logs every. single. thing. that happens to everyone.
Doesn’t change the fact that it shouldn’t be reimbursed when he did it to himself.
I can understand if there was a glitch or something that resulted in it disappearing from his inventory but that isn’t the case.
I agree that the OP shouldn’t be reimbursed. It would be a real kitten move by CS to all of the people they said “nope” to when it involved different circumstances. Any mistakes or faults of the player should be considered separately from glitches – all or nothing. I don’t like the idea that there are double standards when it comes to restoring deleted items that resulted from haste.
If I recall correctly, I’ve seen situations where Anet gives refunds on items (especially gem store items) if the item was accidentally lost when a character was deleted, etc
Sure as kitten never happened for me on the character I accidentally deleted that had some infinite gathering tools. They told me tough luck and closed the ticket. Which is perfectly reasonable, it’s their policy – I have no problems with an enforced policy, just when CS decides to practice double standards for some reason.
I would understand your frustration in that situation, but don’t you think it’s a bit cynical to expect other players to be punished for something that happened to you? On the contrary, I think it’s a failing on Anet’s part and that it is something they should address, even if it means reevaluation or tweaking their policy. It’s certainly in Anet’s best interests to support those who financially support them and I can’t see how or why it should be any other way, especially if Anet wants to retain the trust and loyalty of their consumer base.
I say this as someone who has also had one of my report tickets refused.
The last part here is where the selfish part becomes apparent – other stuff has happened to people where they didn’t get refunded, therefore this guy shouldn’t get refunded, i.e. “stuff happened in the past that bothered me concerning Anet’s policies about items, therefore everyone should have to hurt like I do.” You know your own mind better than I do or anyone else here. Maybe I’m completely off – but how you’re coming across is not in a good way.
You are just assuming. I never had a support issue concerning lost or destroyed items and I never made a mistake like this. Yet I also think he does not deserve it back. This is not seflish at all. I am merely considering the outcome if the knowledge gets spread that whenever you make a mistake in the game, you can ask support to reverse it for you.
Yes it was a precursor. So what? What if someone else throws something of comparable value into the forge that is not a precursor? Should he also get it back? Or is he not special enough? What if someone throws something in that costs 100 gold less? Is he out of luck because his loss was not high enough? This is all bull. Either reimburse everybody for mistakes they make, or nobody. In my opinion it should be nobody. Because everybody is too much work for support, which WE have to pay in the end.
Firstly, for a person to get a precursor is rare enough as it is. For a person to accidentally lose it would be an even rarer “once in a blue moon” event. So I hardly think this issue being resolved with a refund would cause some major influx of report tickets for people asking for lost precursors to be refunded. I think you’re over-exaggerating on the possible repercussions of such an issue, when in reality, the repercussions would be insignificant, if not nonexistent.
In most cases, if people lose something insignificant like a normal rare or exotic, they won’t bother to report it because it would be easier to just make a few gold to reacquire the item than it would to wait for support to respond. In the cases of losing rare, expensive items, I think people are generally quite careful in that regard and not prone to mistakes. If mistakes do happen, it will be rarely. I see no reason not to help a player if they lose something that would take a significant amount of time and effort to acquire just because of an accident, especially if it’s a precursor.
If I recall correctly, I’ve seen situations where Anet gives refunds on items (especially gem store items) if the item was accidentally lost when a character was deleted, etc, so I don’t see why they can’t refund a much more valuable precursor. Of course, the simple solution which would help both Anet and everyone else, and eliminate most of the work involved, would be to simply upgrade precursors to ascended quality items.
Your own fault, you do not deserve to get it back.
Lol. So if you accidentally trip and fall one day and break a leg, I guess the bystanders or paramedics will just say “well, it’s your fault so you don’t deserve to get help or treatment.”
Sometimes I wonder why people act as if mistakes or accidents are somehow unforgivable sins. It’s laughable.
I really hope you get your dusk back. I know if I was in the same situation, I’d want it back as well, so don’t listen to the naysayers. They’d also want it back if they made a mistake, even though they might not want to admit it. We all make mistakes sometimes.
Good luck with your support ticket.
I also get annoyed by knockbacks. There’s nothing worse than using/picking up an ice bow and unleashing a barrage of ice on some poor, unsuspecting foe or mob, only for a mesmer/ranger to come along and knock it/them back out of the aoe, thus causing the enemies to avoid tons of potential damage. I’ve lost count of how many times something along these lines has occurred. It’s even more baffling when enemies are knocked out of feedback bubbles or time warps. They’re spamming pointless (in zerg situations), low damage skills and causing other players to miss on their high damage, long cooldown skills.
Unfortunately, there is no real fix for players who play poorly. Even if you introduced a tutorial cautioning players on when to use knockbacks or when not to use them, players will still do it. The only fix is to remove skills with knockbacks and that will just cause more issues than it would solve.
Unfortunately, this is just one of those annoyances we’ll have to put up with.

I don’t think a hard mode for the Clock Tower is necessary, or really a good idea. Although some of us have mastered it, there are plenty of players who still find it incredibly difficulty. You don’t want to alienate a majority of your player-base just to please a very small minority.
As it is, when I do the clock tower, I notice in any given match that most of the time I seem to be the only person who actually completes it (I have a few points on the score board while everyone else has 0). That in itself speaks of how difficult it is for the general playerbase. What might be a better suggestion is to maybe just ask for a new Jp that’s not necessarily easier or harder, but just different. That way, that sense of excitement and energy can be rekindled because you have something new, fresh and unknown, but for newer players, it doesn’t seem too insurmountable. Otherwise, you’ll get a lot of rage and frustration (which, to be honest, the clock tower already induces in its current state).
Also, is no one talking about the blatant spike in gem prices, inconsistent with the actual in-game economy (not to mention them hiding this price spike at an incredibly convenient time).
I’m not sure how many posts in this thread you’ve read, but quite a few people were talking about it actually. O_o
What I don’t get in all of this, is that all the changes or fixes players ask for all the time are pretty much ignored. Condition fixes? Nope. Craftable precursors? Nope. The return of Tribal armor? Nope. New weapons, classes or races? Nope. New, meaningful end game content? Nope. Dueling? Nope.
But when it comes to stuff that no-one actually asks for, or in some cases is even detrimental to the game as a whole, sure, no problem. Let’s add that stuff.
Reworked trait system that makes leveling more of a pain? Yep! Turning town clothes into tonics that can’t even be dyed, despite some people spending money to buy it? Yep! Reworked gem conversion system that introduces huge inconveniences? Yep! More outfits when people are asking for armor instead? Yep! Changes to the story system to black lion keys can’t be farmed anymore? Yep!
I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point. As a gamer who has supported this game for two years and even spent money on it where I can, I frankly feel insulted. I actually feel bad for vets who keeps trying to give the devs constructive feedback as to how they can make the game better, only to have it constantly ignored. Instead, we get changes that we not only didn’t ask for, but ones that actually inconvenience us or make certain game systems worse, rather than improving them.
I don’t get it. I just really don’t get it. Does ANet have absolutely no interest in keeping their long-term customers? Is there really such a severe lack of understanding between the devs and the players, that these kinds of things keep happening over and over again? Or is it simply a blatant disregard for player wishes in favor of making as much money as possible?
I honestly don’t like the new conversion system. At the very least I can understand making a new interface that’s easier to use, but why take away the ability to customize the amount of gems you want to acquire? It just doesn’t make sense. Rather give both options so that all players are happy than just give one very restrictive option to placate newer players.
Quite honestly, I mean this with all respect, but ANet is really dropping the ball lately. I don’t know what kind of company makes changes that upset their long term customers who have supported them over these past two years, and then try to defend it as if our feelings are invalid.
I’d say the longbow as it is right now is fine. It got some needed buffs and now it’s actually a decent weapon. It’s the ranger’s other weapon sets that are sub-par. That’s the problem when you buff one weapon with problems, but ignore the other weapons that have their own problems.
I say this as someone who doesn’t use a ranger as a main (mostly because of some of its shortcomings), so I’m not even defending the buff because I use the class a lot. I’d just feel really bad for ranger players if their only truly good weapon got nerfed again after finally becoming viable.
Quite frankly, even if you couldn’t get into trouble for this, you still shouldn’t do it. It’s shameful behavior and if you have even an ounce of self respect or integrity, you wouldn’t commit such a lowly act at all, let alone repeat it on a regular basis.
I did read the spoiler, but quite frankly I don’t know if I can believe that you were just trying to get a reaction or that the real victim of such an incident was your brother. If that was the case you could have simply stated the truth from the start, and you still would have gotten fairly accurate responses with regards to how others would perceive the situation.
This entire post just seems completely wrong. You should have thought about it more carefully.
this again…
what about all of your pve exclusive past rewards that pvpers never got?
you think its fair that pve’ers get given the only past pvp reward but pvp’ers dont get wings of sunless, air filtration device, mad king backpacks etc…you have your past rewards we have ours, you have more.
You do realize that PvE players ask for past PvE rewards to come back as well right? Even if they just add Tribal Armor to a PvP reward track, that will be fine, that way we still have to play PvP to get it but at least it will be available.
Timed content is always an issue for all players, PvE or PvP because players might not have had the game or might not have been able to play it during the time those rewards were available. If I missed the first Halloween event, for example, because I was on holiday or was sick, etc, then I lose out on timed content. That’s why so many people ask for the flaming book to come back as well, among other things. It’s not like people are only asking for Tribal Armor.
I just don’t get the point of removing content that players clearly want and have been asking for. The armor already exists, surely re-adding it to the game cannot be that hard.
I think the most frustrating part in all this is that I’ve seen lots of threads created about this topic over the past few months and yet, the devs continue to remain silent on the matter. I mean, really? Is it that hard to just give some indication as to whether the armor would be re-added some time soon? Hell, even just a “no, we’re not re-adding it” would be fine, if it means players at least get some closure on the matter.
Would that kind of change really solve the issue? Giving one person the power to kick others without any approval from other players is basically opening a big door for trolls to torment others. They might even create groups just to kick everyone once they’ve joined to annoy people. They might also kick others when it is unreasonable and uncalled for and no-one will have a say in the matter. You’ll be at the mercy of a single player’s whims. At least as it is now, you need the approval of multiple players to kick someone, so if one person is a jerk, but the others aren’t, chances are nothing will happen.
So far, I have yet to be kicked once from a group while playing in a dungeon or fractal, unless I’ve disconnected from the game for a reasonable amount of time, in which case the kick is perfectly understandable. Also, the only time I’ve called for a vote to kick others is when they are being complete jerks, have disconnected and not returned after a reasonably long waiting period, or if they’re under-levelled for a fractal or dungeon (A level 28 player tried to join our group for a fractal level 22 run yesterday, so naturally I asked for a vote to kick. But I also explained why he was being kicked in a PM so he knew the basic requirements of doing a fractal and didn’t feel mistreated).
Symbol of Swiftness grants 4 seconds of swiftness if you run over it and 17 seconds if you stand in it. I don’t see the problem.
Various people have pointed out the problems above, but to summarize:
1: To get the max swiftness duration, you have to stand still inside the field. Standing still is the complete antithesis of moving faster, so it’s easy to figure out why that is a bad mechanic.
2: If you’re on the move, chances are you’ll only get 4 seconds of swiftness at a time running through the field. 4 seconds of swiftness on a skill with a 15 second cooldown means less than 30% swiftness up time while on the move. That’s really poor compared to other classes with permanent passive movement speed increases from traits or signets, or superior up times on their swiftness skills.
3: Because the symbol does damage, if any random creature runs into it to try chase you while you are roaming, you get slowed to combat speed and thus your movement speed bonus is not only negated, but is actually worsened as a whole.
The build looks decent, but if you’re going to be running four meditations, it would be better to use monk’s focus over altruistic healing. I’d also replace retributive armor with meditation mastery in that case as well, because you’ll benefit more from faster meditation recharge, than you will from the 4% extra crit chance.
Also, if this is a PvE focused build, I wouldn’t use wrathful spirit, because retaliation as a whole is not a very useful boon in PvE. Even if it was, your only source of aegis on this build is virtue of courage, which at best will give you aegis once ever 40 seconds. 3 seconds of aegis every 40 seconds is really just not going to do you any favors at all. Perhaps replace it with larger symbols or protective reviver.
As for your gear, I’m not sure about the runes of the traveler. I know guardians can feel slow, but the only real benefit of those runes for your build is the movement speed bonus. The + to all stats is pretty much negligible and the boon duration isn’t as useful for a build that is running meditations, as opposed to a more boon oriented shout build. Considering the boon you’ll be stacking the most is might (from your staff, greatsword auto and empowering might trait) I’d rather use superior runes of strength, which would benefit your might duration more significantly, as well as increasing your damage when you have might (which, guaranteed, will be all the time).

I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out how bad of a suggestion this is.
