I made one only to find it’s going to cost millions of gold to craft it to level 80. I don’t even know if I can be bothered to level it at all.

You lost me at the subject. I’ve never, nor do any of the hardcore dungeon runners I know running 40+ fractals, ever restrict by class. Most every class is well balanced, and any content can be done with any class combination.

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

took me exactly 6 days to get all empyreal needed for ascended wep which is bad but not as bad as i thought.

It is bad. I have enough mats for 2 vision crystals already, but that is only because i’m farming them like crazy. It’s clear to me that i won’t be able to keep it up for all the weapons I need (the basic minimum is 25 weapons, and that’s only because i don’t count my engi, underwater weapons, and possible alternate weapons for my less used alts. The number i’d be aming for – those that i reasonably expect to use, is amost double that). After i drop down to my normal playing style, i’d be lucky to get 10 empyreal fragments daily on average – that’s close to two months per weapon.

TL/DR: yes, the farming speed is better than originally expected, but the nonfarming, casual gameplay speed is beyond horrible.

Wait, what? You need 25 ascended weapons? Are you triple boxing three octopus warriors? + one spare?

You can’t claim you NEED 25 of them. Just because you have a bunch of characters, does not constitute an excuse to complain about drop rates. That’s like complaining that property taxes are too high for your 10 houses.

Do you understand that they need to make this stuff harder to get, so that you have something to do at 80? Everyone just wants it now now now!

No. Give us more game to play at 80. Not more crap to gather to make weapons we don’t need.

If you don’t need it, why do you care?!?!?!?!

Because I think we need more game to play at 80 and the devs seem hellbent on giving us more crap we don’t need instead of more game to play at 80.

For a one year old game, there is a TON of level 80 content. Fractals, quite a few level 70+ dungeons, all dungeons can be ran at 80 and still be challenging. Tons of world events. WVW, PVP, guildmissions, crafting that can produce the best items in game. Living world content on a ridiculously fast pace basis. Seriously, step back and ask yourself what it is you are expecting? This game has the amount of end game content a 3 year old game would be happy to have, at the one year mark. I think people are getting jaded and spoiled.

The game feels a lot more rewarding when you just let the rewards come naturally instead of grinding for them. Now the only time I grind is when I am really close so might as well finish it off.

This.

I haven’t been trying to do anything, and I’m pretty sure I’m actually close to having the mats for an ascended weapon, just from doing fractals, WVW, and other dungeons (just not the 500 weaponsmith).

Then on top of that you can’t gather these fragments or any other of these bound materials pre-level 80 so any new person playing or someone leveling an alt will only be able to start grinding these materials out when they reach max level 80 even tho the first dungeon you come to is level 30. Also, dragonite ore and empyrean does not drop from rich ore veins. smh someone over there didn’t think this all the way thru before they released this mess.

Give me a break. You want to do the oh-so-hard-task of leveling to 80 (heavy sarcasm here) and be rewarded with an ascended weapon as you level to 80? Do you understand that you are supposed to work your way through rare, exotic, ascended/legendary? I know I did at release on my first char. Ascended is an end game item, just like legendaries. Do you understand that they need to make this stuff harder to get, so that you have something to do at 80? Everyone just wants it now now now!

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

Assuming everyone uses a one-handed weapon, off-hand weapon, and two-handed weapon, you need 1,500 Empyreal Fragments. Then there’s two underwater weapons. That’s 2,500 Empyreal Fragments.

The best way to get all of those fragments is dungeons. Each dungeon gives 20 Empyreal Fragments. That means all the ascended weapons require 125 dungeon runs. Assuming each dungeon run takes 15 minutes, that’s 31.5 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

If someone wants to do it through jumping puzzles, it will take an average of 625 jumping puzzles to get 2,500 Empyreal Fragments. Assuming each jumping puzzle takes five minutes — a very generous estimate — that’s more than 52 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

As a comparison, it takes 84 temple events to get 2,500 Dragonite Ore. That’s 21 hours of gameplay at most.

Is this intentional?

Colin Johanson to Eurogamer: “Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

lol, you’re assuming a lot. Why not just assume that everyone wants one of every weapon? How about multiples of every stat combo?

Reality is, most people want 1 or 2. A lot of people are using sub 80, or rare or green underwater weapons for that matter.

I’ve got over 250 already, and it’s been out less than a week, fragments are not the problem. Ore on the other hand, while I have a fair amount, seems like that is going to take a bit longer, but still probably a reasonable drop rate.

Dailies are burning people out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TexRob.5183

TexRob.5183

People are fighting about two different things in this thread.

1) people who feel obligated to do all the dailies, and get every achievement point
2) people who feel obligated to get 5/5 on ONE of the dailies

2 is easy, and if you’re complaining about that, you just maybe shouldn’t be playing an MMO. The only gripe I can see here is that it doesn’t offer enough variety. Say you are a big crafter or something, you can’t get your daily done. Other than that, if you just play the game, you’re almost always going to get 5/5 or really close.

As for 1, the leaderboards are dumb and should go away. I really don’t get why people feel that being on that leaderboard matters. I’ve never once saw someone with a high achievement total and thought, “Wow, this guy is a great player!” If it was like PVP rank, WVW rank, fractal difficulty rank somehow, I’d be impressed, but just a leadboard for doing a lot of mundane tasks? Yeah, good job, go tell your parents…

I am not trying to be mean, but it’s an addiction at that point, one that ANet is feeding by having cheevo leaderboards.

Dailies are burning people out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TexRob.5183

I, like others have posted, usually just look at my daily as I am wrapping it up for the night. Almost always at 5/5 or 4/5, very rarely it will be 3/5. I usually just have to go gather and kill some ambients for 10 minutes or something in a BG.

The dailies are not required, but are easily obtainable without making them “log in and collect for doing nothing”. My only gripe is when the dailies heavily favor one thing over the other. It’s rare, but sometimes there is almost no WVW, or no PVE, etc. Usually if you do a dungeon or WVW, you’re set, but sometimes not if you do either. It’s not a big deal, but sometimes I have to do a bit more work, but it’s rare.

Loading Lions Arch SSD vs HDD

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TexRob.5183

This doesn’t explain why loading times into LA have increased exponentially since the game launched with the same hard drive.

I thought it was just my system. Interesting that someone else is seeing the same problem.
Most cities and locations load quite quickly, but LA keeps taking longer and longer.

I don’t know the ins and outs of their engine, but I would assume this is because they keep adding texture, therefore loading the city with all the people in it, requires more textures. Dungeons and outdoor zones are relatively static and generally have many less people in them, and therefore less variety.

My HDD must run at a higher RPM because I load into LA in half the time. SSDs are great and all but they are more expensive for less space. While I don’t know from personal experience, others who do speak from personal experience, have told me that you’re more likely to get a bad one from the factory. I’ve been to two different computer stores that do repairs on top of selling hardware. The guys at both places independently said that as far as hard drives problems go, they’ve seen more pc brought in for failed SSDs than HDDs.

When I get around to upgrading my HDD, I’ll just go with a high rpm HDD with SSD cache drive.

Did they mention that defragging an SSD will kill it?

Not true, that’s an old wive’s tale. It will though, waste your time, and waste writes, as it has no benefit.

Hybrid drives are good, but not many out there. I wish the tech would evolve some more.

That said, don’t buy a garbage SSD and you won’t have problems. First and second gen SSDs had problems, I have one in this laptop I am typing on now, that I have had all kinds of problems on. Finally stable after 50 firmware versions. The others I have have been great. Don’t buy the no name brand stuff, and you’ll be fine. Just do your research. You’re cheating yourself out of performance if you don’t move to one man. Get an SSD for primary, and a hybrid or just a big spindle disk for your non-speed sensitive data (movies, archiving, etc).

Uhhh SAB normalizes your characters size. I did it just fine with a max size charr and max size Asura (Almost tall as a norn in SAB!), so size difference is no problem.

Anyway, I had great fun in the box. Thanks for making it. I usually don’t log on to the forums, but since you seemed a bit down I figured I’d put in a post about how satisfied I am with it.

The only unfortunate thing is that I play with high latency, which made the lilypads and jumping rocks a bit problematic in TB. But in the end it didn’t really put a dent in my progress and I managed just fine. The rapids weren’t an issue at all.

Again, thanks for making this content.

From my personal experience with w2z1 I think at least one more re-enterable checkpoint would solve a lot of frustation.
As developer you often loose the distance to your own project, so maybe take the worst SAB player of anet and take him/her as a reference?

One thing you have to learn about how our jumping/collision works is that you can’t jump up against things and slide up and over the lip like any normal platformer. You need to start your jump further back. I know this is frustrating and if I had the power to change it I most certainly would. Along with making player’s collision match their body/size, and not hang out over the sides of things. As I’m trying to push the skill of jumping it means I’ve had to bring these wonky issues to the forefront. That’s unfortunate, but in my opinion it’s worth doing for the sake of more interesting jumping challenges.

Whoa whoa, you want to punish people who don’t make the cookie cutter ant sized characters even more than the game already does? No thank you sir! It really bugs me what an advantage being tiny is in this game for WVW, PVE, jump puzzles, and tight spaces in general. I refuse to do it, it started with Aion for me. These tiny characters never used to be a thing, but it’s the norm now, and all the games seem to reward you for being tiny.

The load times on an SSD are nice, but what’s much more useful is the texture load times. With an SSD you won’t see zones loading textures for the first 15 seconds upon entering the zone, or worse. With an SSD it should be pretty much instant.

Also, for people saying they are expensive, they really aren’t these days. They continue to come down, but are already very reasonable. If you can’t afford a bigger one, just get a larger drive for data retention, movies, music, etc, and install your games and OS to the C drive on your SSD. The bigger size you can afford, the more you can keep installed. I personally don’t leave a ton of junk installed, so I do fine with a 120gb SSD C drive.

Or maybe..make it similiar to marine frenzy?

As for arcing slide..like i said mny times its looks like a finish off move, we actually got a final thrust with extra dmg under 50% hp, maybe we can make arcing slide working the same way? Its goes in line with “Adrenaline fuels their offensive power—the longer warriors stay in a fight, the more dangerous they become”

LoL, I can’t reply to just one, because so many don’t understand basic math. Others have also replied to tell you all you’re being silly as well, but let me reiterate:

Lets say it was 1 in a million to get a precursor, that’s still a chance, and that means that you now have a 3 in a million chance. I didn’t say the market would be flooded, but that IS an increase, it WILL affect price. It might not sound like much, but you have to realize, even if it’s rare, that’s still the potential for 3x more entering the market from ONE person. “But wait, there’s more!” Since everyone is going to have higher magic find overall, it’s going to increase the chance of these dropping for everyone, which is going to increase the number on the market.

What if they replaced your wife? But she’s even hotter, so who cares, right? She’s not the same person you married.

I personally think the footfalls look bad. Doesn’t mean they are bad. But when you take the time to craft something as hard as a legendary, you deserve to have the option to toggle off new things that are added to it that weren’t there before.

It doesn’t matter that the majority think the new footfalls are better. It’s a slap in the face to work for months on a weapon with a vision in mind, only to have it changed. Having the ability to toggle legendary footfalls on/off would appeal to both crowds.

And no, I don’t have the Dreamer, nor am I working on it. But it’s not hard to look at something subjective and realize you’re looking at something subjective.

No, you’re not saying the same thing. A better analogy would be if they gave my wife implants. And yes, I’d be OK with it.

How much Luck in total, to get 300% MF?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TexRob.5183

TexRob.5183

There is a thread on Reddit that extrapolated the amount you needed to get from 20% to 300%. It isn’t certain to be correct, but based on what we know so far it will take 4.19 million luck to hit 300%

This is the worst case scenario. If the increase levels off after a while it may take much less.

Nothing for someone with a little bit of gold. They could do it in a day. Though I think playing the game with finger nubs after all that clicking, may not be terribly fun.

For me it will be a long time to see a decent percentage. Not sure I’m up for all that, motivation is waning.
Thx for the info just the same

Posts like this crack me up. It’s been less than 24 hours since the patch?!?! People are at 100% or higher already! Sure it won’t happen this week, but I guarantee you someone will be 300% within a month or two. This is supposed to be a very high cap that is account wide, that takes time to get to. If you were expecting everyone to be at 300% in a week, what’s the point?

The point is to get rid of the green and blue items flooding the market, and give a longer lasting source for these items for the casual player. Casual players will stop dumping them onto the TP since they will need them, and hardcore players will quickly consume the overstocked TP supply.

Sure some super hardcore people will get 300% in a month, but even I am only at 60% and I salvaged about 600 items already.

Blues and greens were useless before this patch. Now they have value, now you’re not disappointed to get them. To me this change was genius. There is now an incentive to killing mobs instead of running past them to the boss. I love these changes. I understand and respect others opinions that the changes are bad, but for me, I remain optimistic and positive that these changes were good and needed.

Thank you for the update. What about load times?

Load time are load times. The only way you’re going to improve load times is a faster hard drive. The only exception would be if they were to use more heavily compressed textures, or lower resolution textures. I seriously doubt they, nor want to see them, do this.

SSDs are getting cheap, I would recommend making the investment soon if you haven’t. I play on my workstation at work with a hybrid drive, and it does OK, but still takes some time to load upon zoning. On my SSD at home, I never see texture loads.

Why is Performance Never/Rarely Addressed?

I thought this thread was a joke, or that you were going to get railed, but I’m surprised to see people with similar issues.

I have a Radeon 6970 running at 1920×1080, a core i5 2500, 6gb of RAM, and the game installed on an SSD, and it runs amazing. This is a very mid range system, if not below midrange. I run great in WVW, never have any issues anywhere. I’m constantly amazed at how smooth this engine is, and how low the system requirements are, how well it runs with massive numbers of people on screen, etc. It’s seriously the most impressive MMO engine I’ve seen to date.

Do you want harder content?

OP, you had me until you said roll specific classes. As someone who has been playing MMOs since Everquest BETA, the death of the “holy trinity” is a good thing. Required classes for groups is horrible, and the biggest attraction of GW2 to me and many other players.

I definitely think some harder content would be cool. It’s funny to say this (as this was a game where very few cared about PVE content), but some of the best PVE design I’ve seen was in Warhammer, Tomb of the Vulture Lord. Man, this was challenging content when it came out. Complex fights that required precision, cooperation, and little to no room for error. I’d love to see some content of this caliber added.

How much Luck in total, to get 300% MF?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Take a breath regarding changes

I’m honestly asking, but if people say increased MF will increase exotic drops, why will this not increase precursor drops? I am no expert, so maybe there is something I don’t know about that you all do.

Too many PVE fights can be exploited

Fighting a mob in a single spot where it can never hit you is an exploit. These exploits are generally taken out of the game much faster than any bugs that work against players. Fights where you can move a little and use auto-attacks are badly designed (I’m thinking of you Jellyfish). Fights where players can huddle up and share defensive skills to mitigate damage are legal. That’s fine for trash but boss fights should require more active defense (dodge) or deeper tactics.

No, I agree, some are straight up exploits, some are just bad design, some are in a grey area where you are able to mitigate part of the fight because of positioning, etc.

I think they have done well on a lot of these dungeons, I just wish they would fix them so you have to fight them as intended.

Maybe exploit isn’t the right word for some of them, but so many fights in this game are “stand here” and they can’t hit you, or can’t hit you with poison, etc. It’s dumb, I enjoy the encounters the way they were intended, but when they can be done EZ mode, nobody wants to do them the right way. I don’t blame the players, I blame ANet. These issues have been in since release, yet there are still workarounds for nearly every boss in every dungeon. It makes the content less fun when there are known ways to make them simple.

I know most people just want the loot, and don’t care, but it makes it less special when any idiot can stand in one spot and go AFK with auto attack on.
