Hey everyone,

At the moment I’m kind of having trouble finding reasoning to play my Engineer over my Warrior. They seem equal in 1v1, similarly good in sPvP but Warrior seems to be far preferred for Zerging, GvG, raiding and PvE.

Could you guys help me decide between the two classes a bit? I know them both like the back of my hand but am finding trouble in deciding which to get a legendary for etc. and main.

So my guild needs me to go in the Focus Party at the moment and I could go for the generic Thief but they’re a bit overly squishy imo and I kind of prefer the Engi, so I was wondering can they reach similar levels of effectiveness in a focus party for GvG?

I’ve tried Condi and it works but I think SD might be a bit more optimal but I’m hoping one of you out there browsing has more experience than I in this role

It is a lot more effective in WvW than it is in PvP. This is because in WvW you can develop much higher stats. The equivalent to a berserker PvP amulet can be created in WvW with additional vitality and toughness. You can also get much higher burst, on my WvW engineer you can get 4k + 7k jumpshots, which you rarely get in PvP.

So yeah in PvP the stats are lower, and people will target you more once they realise what build you play.

^ is basically what I think too.

SD is definitely really fun and more challenging to play than most other builds (I’d say Cele Engi is a more viable similar fun-level build) but the thing is due to the nature of sPvP, and Engi often being left to de-cap/hold points, SD is just not that great in sPvP. In WvW it’s really really strong especially with Knight’s Gear mixed in but Condi OP sadly.

Wow, thanks for all of the responses. I wasn’t aware that Engi was really utilised much in speed runs and the like. PvE takes up the majority of my time with guild raiding being the other portion and to learn that Engi is strong in PvE is awesome. It now fulfils all of my requirements

It seems that in the game as a whole, Elementalist seems to offer more group support due to combo fields, blast finishers, high DPS, conjure weapons etc., and yet I’m trying to find reasons to main Engineer. So could you guys give me some reasons? I’m a novice Engineer at best and so would appreciate some input as to what they are stronger at than Elementalist.

Wondering if anyone on these forums has much experience playing an Engineer in a coordinated focus party and could give me some insight.

My core role revolves around displacing squishy backliners with Magnetic Pull and dispatching of them alongside some Thief/Mesmer friends, however I’m not 100% sure as to what build to use.

I’ve narrowed it down to either a Static Discharge build due to the high burst and Analyse revealed which is incredible against Mesmers and Thieves who are my main targets. But I’m unsure whether to go for Celestial Armor and mix in a few condis, full burst with Assassins and Zerker and try to disengage straight after burst or to go for a Knights variant.

(BTW I know that Engineer isn’t the most conventional pick for a focus party but please disregard that as I know its effective.)

I play Engineer in coordinated guild zergs for GvG. Engineer can be played in so many ways that it is by no means useless.

You can go for a condi spam build, an SD burst build, or even a flamethrower bunker down build in uncoordinated zergs. The point is… Don’t listen to commanders all of the time. They are often Warriors or Guardians who see very little past being tanky walls with stability and power builds.

Can’t really decide between either of these two. Both would be male as I just prefer my character to be male. Both seem to look pretty cool in gear and although Asuran legendaries etc. sure aren’t as large, they are still noticeable in my opinion.

All opinions/personal experience is very welcome to help me decide.

It’s a WvW Skullcrack build, but you get the idea. High damage + good toughness.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure why you’d want a large health pool.

The higher damage you could get from a full zerk PvE build will mean that mobs would die more quickly, and using dodge-rolls combined with your Whirlwind Attack evade, and a 19k health pool will mean that you’re much more of an asset to your team.

Also, pretty much all of the points in the Defense tree are wasted. The power you are gaining from 10% of your toughness is very very small due to you wearing full zerk armor, and Dogged March and Cleansing Ire are really only used for WvW/sPvP. The majority of the time, condi cleansing is done by Guardian or Elementalist so if I was you I’d just go: 6/5/0/0/3.

I’ve been considering learning my Warrior(s) really well for 1v1s in OS and general roaming but I’ve been thinking and was wondering if you could give me some insight.

As Warrior has such a low skill ceiling (relatively in comparison to Engineer/Elementalist etc.), does the class often get out-classed by Engineers/Elementalists?

I personally can’t imagine how a class with so few skills etc. can out-play a good Engineer or Elementalist due to how many skills and how much versatility they have, and this has really put me off wanting to learn Warrior.

Another question is, are there any pre-notes available to explain what the upcoming Warrior changes are going to be? I know Wolfineer is aware of the Engineer changes so I was wondering if something similar was available for Warrs.

This lol. You can’t even use it in most 1v1s even though it does high damage due to the fact that your dude most of the time goes all kitten y and starts just randomly running into the target and upon reaching the target does no damage and just stands there.

I agree… this whole Hobo-sack thing is to an extent quite against what most of GW seems to be about.

There is a huge emphasis on aesthetics at end-game, and I mean huge, with Legendaries only offering small amounts of convenience and mainly aesthetic upgrades. And then you go sticking ugly hobo-sacks on Engineer’s backs? Surely it can’t be that difficult to put in a setting that allows you to simply hide them.

You could come up with the argument that that makes the Engineer’s skills less read-able, but aside from predicting the kit in use, the Flamethrower looks very unique, as well as the tool kit being un-mistakable and the same story with the Elixir Gun.

I really like the idea of the little buff-type thing which allows you to see what kit they’re using, and I think the simpler the better – a picture of a grenade for the grenade kit and so on…

My one suggestion is add some 1v1s in there with some highly skilled players. It’s fun watching you 1vX and stuff but watching a skilled 1v1 adds another layer of difficulty and learning.

ArenaNet we had kittenty servers at launch where everyone crashed every two seconds. Now they’re back in EotM. Stop bringing out content without being able to fix your kittenty servers in the first place.

I’ve just finished levelling my new Guardian to 80 and I want a build which is pretty cheap to do, and is primarily based around WvW Zerging content. Preferably GS/Staff, but also a build which doesn’t do horribly in PvE, nothing special though as I use my Warrior or Engi for that.

Do any of you know a cheap WvW Zerg build?

As usual, can’t really trust just one opinion, and so I came to these forums (not sure whether a good idea or not) to ask for what changes have been made to the classes (summed up)…

In the last few days I’ve had this really weird issue which I’ve never seen before – in some zones in Guild Wars, I’m getting these flashing green dots on the screen. They change location constantly and are about the size of a pixel. They’re not very noticeable but I’m worried that it could be a sign that my GPU is about to die or something… They come on and off, for example, when I entered CoF today they were on the back wall of the environment, but then they went, and returned when I went to Dwayna. It’s really temperamental.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I’m really not sure what to do.

Would you say to go for Berserker’s or Soldier’s Ascended amulet, rings, accessories and backpiece for a general all-round build?

I mainly do PvE and my full set of armour is Berserker’s, but I’m wondering if getting PvT trinkets would be good to give me extra sustain and survivability, or if I should just go full out damage with full Zerkers.

I was farming in Orr a couple of months back before the release of Ascended weapons and they were all over the place, and I went the other day and they’re still flipping there!

I know basically nothing about Fractals yet so bare with me…

Assuming I was to do Fractals (level 8 I believe as I have no Agony Resistance) every day, how long would it take me to get one of the 20 slot bags (150 relics). Also, is there any way to get the relics more quickly than just doing Fractals? I heard something about Maw but I wasn’t really sure.

The queues are enough to make me angry, never mind the absolute bugger-all rewards you get for doing WvW.

I’m going to definitely keep my Thief on the side, but I’m really looking at Engi and Warr atm… I just rly don’t like Thief in PvE or outside of Roaming to be honest.

He’s a backstab perma-stealth build. I’m kind of going off Thief as I really don’t find them that enjoyable in PvE…

Is there any way to make it so that Warrior can deal with not having stealth? When I tried duo roaming with my friend on my Warr I really got owned but I was full zerker which probbaably didn’t help xD

Any more opinions? I’m still trying to decide between Thief or Engineer.

It’s not the fact that they’re being over-populated due to them being T1 or the Season, it’s the Achievement-Hunters from PvE.

Even Tier 4 servers are getting it.

I’m kinda stumped on what class to main. I’ve narrowed it down to either Engineer, Warrior or Thief.

I find Warrior pretty good for pretty much everything but when I roam with him I feel like I’m always at a disadvantage when compared to my friend who I roam with who has stealth… he just vanishes and I get 3 or 4 enemies jumping on me which gets real old. Maybe I’m just not good enough as a player but I can’t see a way around this problem due to the class’ lack of stealth.

Engineer is my least played class but from what I’ve seen it looks really fun and also challenging which is definitely something I want. The aesthetics are kinda meh but assuming they’re also decent when roaming with a Thief and also decent in PvE, I will probably main it.

Thief a tricky one for me as I’m only really looking for one character to main, and although he has a lot of stealth and a fast-paced play style, I really don’t like him in PvE, and yes I’ve tried every weapon combination etc. Also, I find Thief a bit too squishy.

So what do you guys think?

I’m on Piken Square EU and I can’t load Lion’s Arch… literally it will be on the loading screen for 10 minutes then I will disconnect with the message that I have been disconnected from the log-in servers.

Incredibly irritating and I can’t access my toon…

For WvW Roaming I’m trying to decide between maining Warrior or Engineer.

I really can’t decide so all insight will be appreciated. I’m really just looking for a fun class that has a lot of build diversity.

I know it’s not really very much to work off, but I also dislike kiting and that kind of gameplay as I prefer to fight someone head on and for fights to be short with burst, as opposed to very long drawn out fights like some Elementalist or Guardian 1v1s.

So…

Engineer suits all of those criteria, yet it is challenging to play and is only good when played well.

Warrior suits all of those criteria, yet it is very simple and easy, and this could be considered to be boring, if you like a challenge.

Guardian full berzerker DPS is higher than Warrior full berzerker DPS, however a Guardian needs a Warrior to get the buffs necessary to out-DPS the Warrior, whereas the Warrior can supply those buffs to himself.

I’ve been playing on my Warrior a lot in WvW and he’s pretty fun, but I find him a bit easy and he gets boring quickly. I think I’m going to finish up levelling my Guardian and use him for Zerging and PvE.

I think for Roaming I will either start an Engineer or a Necromancer, as they both seem pretty fun and I’ve seen that they’re both good in Roaming. (Ascii stream if you’re wondering about the Necro roam).

Is there any news about big changes to Warrior which could change that in the upcoming patch?

I don’t want to dedicate loads of time to something then find out it’s nerfed and no longer good for what I want it for

Are there any real differences between Guardian and Warrior for Roaming?

I know that Warrior has more DPS typically, and Guardian is more supporty, but I know that builds can change all of that so I was wondering what the main differences are…

I’ll be roaming with a Thief friend so will any of the Guardian’s attributes make it better than Warrior? I know Warrior can lock down and CC well…

Hey everyone… I’ve been playing GW2 since first beta and I stillll haven’t decided on what class to main lol so I was wondering if you guys could help me out a bit.

This guy will mainly be used for WvW Roaming with a Thief friend.

I’m looking for a profession which is:

• Challenging,
• High skill cap,
• Gives plenty of opportunities for trolling,
• No need to kite. I really dislike kiting,
• Decent mobility, but that’s not really necessary now that Traveler runes have been changed.
• Good in dueling,
• Good at being a roaming partner with a Thief,
• Decent in PvE (doesn’t need to be great as I’ll only really be doing FotM/Arah for gear skins etc.)

I have tried Thief, Warrior and Guardian a lot. I enjoy these three professions but I don’t really think they’re for me. Thief being too squishy, and Warrior & Guardian being too simple/easy to play.

I’ve come back to this again. I levelled a Warrior to 28 in the last day or two and it’s fun but I find it a bit simple/easy.

I think I might give Thief another go, as well as Elementalist.

What’s Elementalist like for what I’ve said? It seems really fun.
